Opis:
The problem of mathematical modelling and indication of properties of a DIP has been investigated in this paper. The aim of this work is to aggregate the knowledge on a DIP modelling using the Euler-Lagrange formalism in the presence of external forces and friction. To indicate the main properties important for simulation, model parameters identification and control system synthesis, analytical and numerical tools have been used. The investigated properties include stability of equilibrium points, a chaos of dynamics and non-minimum phase behaviour around an upper position. The presented results refer to the model of a physical (constructed) DIP system.

Opis:
The paper presents a study of the flight dynamics of a helicopter with an articulated rotor, carrying a suspended load. The aircraft model includes rigid body dynamics, individual flap and blade dynamics, and inflow dynamics. The load is a point mass with a single suspension point. Results are obtained for load masses of up to 1500 kg, with load-to-helocopter mass rations up to 33%, and cable lengths up to 55m. The presence of the external load modifies the flight dynamics and handling quality characteristics of the helicopter because the dynamic and aerodynamic characteristics of the load may make it unstable in certain fight conditions. Maneuvers of this system in wide flight regimes involves non-linear aerodynamics and inertial coupling. In can be stated that the helicopter with the suspended load is a inherently non-linear and time varying system. Theory of dynamical systems provides a methodology for studying such non-linear systems. Bifurcation theory is a part of that theory. It considers changes in the stability of the system which lead to qualitatively different responses of it. In this paper, results from the theory of dynamical systems are used to predict the nature of instabilities caused by bifurcations and the response of the rotorcraft with the suspended load that follow such bifurcations.
Doskonałych narzędzi do badania takich równań dostarcza teoria układów dynamicznych i będąca jej częścią teoria bifurkacji. W pracy wykorzystano metodologię teorii układów dynamicznych do prognozowania natury niestabilności spowodowanej występującymi bifurkacjami. Ponadto przeprowadzono symulacje ruchu układu śmigłowiec-podwieszony ładunek po wystąpieniu bifurkacji.

Opis:
Reservoir condensate blockage in the reservoir and in particular in the close vicinity of the wellbore may result in significant loss of well deliverability for medium to tight gas reservoirs. The dynamics of fluid flow in these types of reservoirs are investigated by way of analytical description and by numerical simulation of radial two phase flow behavior. The analytical model is based on a single phase semi steady-state solution, being revised for two phase flow of gas and condensate oil. As the liquid is dropping out of the gas, a saturation distribution of immovable oil is seen to develop radially in the reservoir with time. Condensed oil not being part of this saturation distribution is produced to the surface. The numerical model is a cylindrical, single well, fine gridded, simulation model run on the Eclipse E300 compositional simulator. The base case study comprises a rich gas condensate fluid (GOR ~ 1000 Sm3/Sm3), an initial gas-in-place volume of 750 MSm3, and reservoir permeability of 10 mD. A gas flow rate of 0.5 MSm3/day is leading to a production period of about 4 years. A comparative study is performed by varying parameters such as pressure development, development of bank of immovable oil both radially and as function of time, condensate blockage effects, and gas and condensate oil production and onset of reduced well deliverability. Sensitivity analysis are performed by studying variation in the productivity index, non-Darcy and mechanical skin, and sensitivities related to permeability. It has been confirmed in this study that condensate blockage has a direct and negative impact on well deliverability, where both the plateau period and the bottom hole pressure are reduced. We also show that the analytical model compares well with the numerical models and that many features describing gas-condensate banking and well deliverability are adequately described in the model. The analytical model also offers insight into the process of reservoir liquid storage in gas condensate reservoirs.

A dynamic approach to the reliability analysis of realistic systems is likely to increase the computational burden, due to the need of integrating the dynamics with the system stochastic evolution. Hence, fast-running models of process evolution are sought. In this respect, empirical modelling is becoming a popular approach to system dynamics simulation since it allows identifying the underlying dynamic model by fitting system operational data through a procedure often referred to as ‘learning’. In this paper, a Locally Recurrent Neural Network (LRNN) trained according to a Recursive Back-Propagation (RBP) algorithm is investigated as an efficient tool for fast dynamic simulation. An application is performed with respect to the simulation of the non-linear dynamics of a nuclear reactor, as described by a simplified model of literature.

Opis:
In this paper, pole placement-based design and analysis of a free piston Stirling engine (FPSE) is presented and compared to the well-defined Beale number design technique. First, dynamic and thermodynamic equations governing the engine system are extracted. Then, linear dynamics of the free piston Stirling engine are studied using dynamic systems theory tools such as root locus. Accordingly, the effects of variations of design parameters such as mass of pistons, stiffness of springs, and frictional damping on the locations of dominant closed-loop poles are investigated. The design procedure is thus conducted to place the dominant poles of the dynamic system at desired locations on the s-plane so that the unstable dynamics, which is the required criterion for energy generation, is achieved. Next, the closed-loop poles are selected based on a desired frequency so that a periodical system is found. Consequently, the design parameters, including mass and spring stiffness for both power and displacer pistons, are obtained. Finally, the engine power is calculated through the proposed control-based analysis and the result is compared to those of the experimental work and the Beale number approach. The outcomes of this work clearly reveal the effectiveness of the control-based design technique of FPSEs compared to the well-known approaches such as Beale number.

Purpose: Purpose of this paper is the theoretical formulation of elasto-dynamics behaviour of fully cracked concrete beams for two-degree of freedom (DOF) dynamical system. Such modelled system is demonstrated by a new class of two-DOF conservative, fully-nonlinear systems known as nonlinear homogeneous dynamical (NHD) systems. Design/methodology/approach: The theoretical formulation of Two-DOF dynamical system has been developed by using the fundamental concept of structural analysis. Further, the behaviour of such class of conservative dynamical system has been concluded by using MATLAB. Findings: Findings can be distinguished into two aspects. First, when subjected to service loads, reinforced concrete structures possess tension cracks. Due to load variation with time leads the breathing action (opening-closing-reopening) of existing cracks and the behaviour of such structures are nonlinearly-elastic. Second, such class of fully nonlinear dynamical system possess dependence of stiffness coefficients on nodal displacements. Research limitations/implications: The mechanism behind such class of fully nonlinear dynamical system is not yet fully explored. Practical implications: Practical implications are related to the structural response of fully cracked concrete beam to different earthquake excitation, especially to understand the response of such nonlinear homogeneous elasto-dynamical system with two-DOF concrete beam. Originality/value: Elasto-dynamics of fully cracked concrete beams.

Opis:
In this paper, we use the alternating direction method for isogeometric finite elements to simulate transient problems. Namely, we focus on a parabolic problem and use B-spline basis functions in space and an implicit time-marching method to fully discretize the problem. We introduce intermediate time-steps and separate our differential operator into a summation of the blocks that act along a particular coordinate axis in the intermediate time-steps. We show that the resulting stiffness matrix can be represented as a multiplication of two (in 2D) or three (in 3D) multi-diagonal matrices, each one with B-spline basis functions along the particular axis of the spatial system of coordinates. As a result of these algebraic transformations, we get a system of linear equations that can be factorized in a linear O(N) computational cost at every time-step of the implicit method. We use our method to simulate the heat transfer problem. We demonstrate theoretically and verify numerically that our implicit method is unconditionally stable for heat transfer problems (i.e., parabolic). We conclude our presentation with a discussion on the limitations of the method.

Opis:
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has progressed rapidly in the past fifty years and is now used in many industrial fields, such as air, space, and marine engineering. CFD has an irreplaceable role in marine design and scientific research, and its applications within this field continue to grow with the development of computers. CFD is used to quickly and inexpensively simulate fluid behaviour using the Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations to calculate hydrodynamic coefficients, which are needed in manoeuvrability studies of underwater vehicles (UWV). Here, these computations are performed for six geometrical shapes that represent typical autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) currently in use. Resistance test simulations at up to 20o drift angles were conducted for AUVs with different length-to-diameter ratios. The results were compared with the experimental data and current quasi-experimental relationships, which suggested that the CFD predictions were adequately precise and accurate. These predictions indicated that there was a non-linear relationship between forces and moments and the lateral speed. Moreover, both linear and non-linear hydrodynamic coefficients were calculated.

The main objective of this study is to investigate pad stiffness effects on the instability of a nonlinear brake squeal model. Hence, a nonlinear mathematical model is developed. The nonlinear model is linearized to check the system stability through complex eigenvalue analysis. The results of linear stability analyses are compared to the numerical solution of the nonlinear model, and it is observed that the dynamic behavior predicted by the linear stability analysis is in accordance with the numerical solutions. Though, a discrepancy may occur at the predicted squeal frequencies with both approaches, especially at high pad stiffness levels.
