One of the most challenging problems university students encounter when learning foreign languages is acquiring lexical units and enhancing vocabulary skills. The article provides the study of the methods and principles of teaching foreign language vocabulary to university students as well as their advantages and drawbacks. The general levels of educational students’ achievement in learning English are determined on the basis of the pilot research carried out at Donetsk National University in Vinnytsia and Vinnytsia National Agrarian University. Although the results of the pilot research show students’ weaknesses in the process of learning lexical units, they prove the positive impact of the presented methods and principles of teaching English at university.

This article aims to demonstrate the basic relationships at the level of spatial relations, in which the primary prepositional meanings translate into figurative language within the phraseological units containing the component su. The author attempts to answer the question as to whether the image schema, indicated as semantically crucial in the interpretationof the polysemy of this preposition, can affect the semantic motivation of the indicated units. The analysis leads to the conclusion that the impact is uneven, and does not apply to all patterns and relationships discussed.
Although phrasemes comprise a group of multi-word lexical units, nearly 50 years ago it was postulated that one-word phrases (such as compounds) should also be included, which continues to be a subject of dispute in phraseology. In German, such one-word phrases are referred to as Einwortphraseme or Einwortidiome, the terms being used synonymously. This paper points out the heterogeneity of the group of one-word phrases, which results from the fact that not only idioms are the basis for their formation, but so are collocations and other non-idiomatic phrases. This paper proposes a broader approach to the concept of Einwortphraseme, identifies new one-word phrases, undescribed so far, and suggests their new classification.

This paper presents an analysis of the usages of words from the nest (hatred) in the works by Jan Kochanowski against the semantic development of these words in Polish. Their original etymological meaning is related to seeing someone unwillingly, disliking someone. In the Old and Middle Polish periods, they were used fairly often, but the usages were different from the present ones: many of them had a less negative meaning than they do in Modern Polish. It was shaped after the 16th century, yet the beginnings of the process are assumed to go back to the century of the last Jagiellons. The author formulates a hypothesis that Jan Kochanowski, who noticed the trend in the semantics of the words from the nest , restricted their usage in his works only to the translations of the Old Testament psalms, consciously not referring them to the contemporary interpersonal relationships.

The article deals with the Argentinian slang Lunfardo which is spoken mainly in Buenos Aires, La Plata and their surroundings. The main objective of the paper is the lexicological analysis of Lunfardo lexical units related to legal matters. Lunfardo came into existence at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries when a great amount of immigrants from different European countries came to Argentina, mainly to its capital Buenos Aires. The languages and dialects spoken by immigrants started to mix with Spanish (its Argentinian variant) and Lunfardo started to develop. The article investigates the history of this linguistic phenomenon and its present situation. It tries to characterize Lunfardo focusing on its linguistic features and social background of its users. 
Artykuł dotyczy argentyńskiego slangu lunfardo, ktory używany jest głównie w Buenos Aires, La Placie i ich okolicach. Jego głównym celem jest analiza leksykograficzna jednostek leksyklanych lunfardo związanych z prawem, językiem prawnym i prawniczym. Lunfardo powstało na przełomie XIX i XX wieku, kiedy do Argentyny, a zwłaszcza Buenos Aires napłynęły bardzo duże liczby imigrantów z Europy. Języki i dialekty używane przez imigrantów zaczęły mieszać się z językiem hiszpańskim (jego argentyńską odmianą) i w ten sposób zaczęło rozwijać się lunfardo. Artykuł zajmuje się historią oraz obecnym kształtem tego zjawiska językowego. Charakterystyzuje lunfardo koncentrując się na jego cechach lingwistycznych oraz społeczym pochodzeniu jego użytkowników.

In this article we consider and analyze the principles of codification of lexical units in educational lexicography. Further theoretical and practical work in the field of projecting and compiling of educational dictionaries is impossible without preliminary collection and analysis of the main principles of codification of lexical units. The aim of the article is to make up a list of principles of codification of lexical units in educational dictionaries. As a result, we have found 16 principles of educational lexicography. Following these principles allows lexicographers to improve the qualitative characteristics while projecting and compiling the dictionaries.
В статье представлены принципы кодификации лексических единиц в учебной лексикографии. Без предварительного сбора и анализа основных принципов кодификации лексических единиц невозможна дальнейшая теоретическая и практическая работа в области проектирования и составления словарей учебной направленности. Целью статьи явилось составление списка принципов кодификации лексических единиц в учебных словарях. В результате выявлено 16 принципов. Следование этим принципам позволяет лексикографам при проектировании и составлении учебных словарей улучшить их (словарей) качественные характеристики.

Статья посвящена изучению особенностей реализации языковой игры в современных медийных продуктах. Объектом исследования послужили тексты жанра стендап-комедии. Выступления в жанре стендап понимаются как сольное юмористическое выступление перед живой аудиторией. В репертуар стенадап-комиков входят авторские монологи, короткие шутки, импровизации с залом. Цель настоящей статьи заключается в определении речевых приемов в публичных выступлениях и анализе их с точки зрения теории языковой игры. Рассматриваются понятия языковой игры, комичного выступления, вербальной креативности. Основным методом исследования является описательный, в рамках которого применены приемы наблюдения, обобщения, классификации данных. В статье проанализированы языковые примеры комедийных текстов с точки зрения реализации языковой игры на различных уровнях языка: фонетическом, словообразовательном, лексическом, синтаксическом. В ходе анализа авторских монологов резидентов стендап-шоу определена структура, в соответствии с которой строится шутка; выявлены приемы языковой игры, которые преимущественно применяют стендап-комики. Наблюдения позволили вычленить и отрицательные черты (ненормативная лексика, слова-паразиты, бессодержательные фразы), затрудняющие восприятие языковой игры. В статье делается вывод о роли публичных выступлений жанра стендап-комедии в воспитании эстетической категории, реализуемой в остроумной и легкой речи. Перспективой исследования является анализ выступлений женской стендап-комедии и выявление влияния гендерной принадлежности на язык комедийных текстов.
This article studies the features of language game implementation in the modern media products. The object of the study is stand-up comedy texts. Stand-up performance is a solo, humorous performance in front of an audience. The repertoire of stand-up comedians includes author’s monologues, short jokes, and improvisation with the audience. These performances are based on a language game element implemented in a certain structure. The purpose of this article is to identify stand-up genre speech techniques in public performances and analyse them from the language game theory viewpoint. The language game, comical, and verbal creativity concepts are considered in the article. The main methods of research are descriptive, observation, generalization, data classification methods. The linguistic examples of comedy texts are analysed from the language game implementation viewpoint at various language levels: phonetic, word-formation, lexical, syntactic. The public performances analysis makes it possible to determine the structure according to which jokes are developed; the techniques of language game which are widely used by stand-up comedians. This analysis allows some negative features to be determined (profanity, parasitic words, meaningless phrases), which can worsen the language game understanding. The article draws attention to the role of stand-up comedy genre public performances in the learning of comic aesthetic category realized in witty and fluent speech. The perspective of the study is to analyse the performances of female stand-up comedy and identify the influence of gender on the language of comedy texts.

Language game can take place on different language levels: phonetic, graphical, lexical-semantic, word-formative, morphological, syntax, and even pragmatics, stylistics etc. In the given article the lexical aspect of the language game is considered. Many creative language potencies are revealed most fully and brightly on the lexical-semantic level. Separate attention is paid to entimological units – lexical units which are described in the entimological dictionaries; as well as to the so called “anti-proverbs” – abnormal paremiological units.

In this article, the author draws attention to translation issues, especially related to the avifauna lexis which appears on the pages of the Bible in the analyzed fragment of Job 28:7 in selected twelve Czech and eighteen Polish translations of the Holy Scripture. In the confrontational-lexical analysis, he describes not only the similarities, but above all the noticeable differences, i.e. changes in the equivalence of bird names and how and in what language form depending on the translation version this conceptual category of birds is used in translation by synonymous lexemes. The marginal presence of the Czech lexeme ostříž was noted. The remaining birds mentioned in Job 28:7 have so different lexical equivalents in individual Czech and Polish biblical translations that on the one hand it gives the impression of chaos, and on the other, reveals far-reaching freedom in translating avifaunic names.
Autor w niniejszym artykule zwraca uwagę na kwestie tłumaczeniowe związane zwłaszcza z wykorzystaną leksyką awifaunistyczną, jaka pojawia się na kartach Biblii w analizowanym fragmencie Hi 28,7 w wybranych 12 czeskich i 18 polskich przekładach Pisma Świętego. W przeprowadzonej konfrontatywno-leksykalnej analizie opisuje on nie tylko podobieństwa, ale przede wszystkim zauważalne różnice, czyli zmiany w ekwiwalencji nazw ptaków oraz jak i w jakiej formie językowej owa kategoria pojęciowa jest wykorzystywana w przekładzie przez bliskoznacznie synonimiczne leksemy – w zależności od wersji tłumaczeniowej. Zwrócono uwagę na marginalne występowanie leksemu czeskiego ostříž. Pozostałe ptaki wymieniane w Hi 28,7 mają w czeskich i polskich przekładach biblijnych tak różne odpowiedniki leksykalne, że sprawia to wrażenie chaosu i daleko idącej dowolności w tłumaczeniu awifaunistycznych nazw.

The article examines the semantics of social status nominations in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The values of nouns of the nobility, peasants, serfs, merchants, courtiers, and intellectuals are analyzed. Using material from the National Russian Corpus, word combinations with these adjectives are considered, which allows us to reveal the connotations of social status. The adjective 'courtier' has formed the meaning 'close to the power and serving its interests', because it is freely combined with the names of professions whose representatives are deprived of an independent position: journalist, sociologist, director.
