Opis:
Tadeusz Zieliński was an outstanding scholar specialising in Greek and Roman literature as well as an accomplished orator, though nowadays he is not always appreciated. The best example of his vast knowledge and oratorical talent is undoubtedly the cycle of eight lectures on the broadly conceived Antiquity. In those lectures, Zieliński discussed the ancient world in terms of scientific research, its influence on modern culture and its role in educating the young generation. In order to ensure the effectiveness of his message, he first had to win favour with the audience. His prestige in the scientific community greatly facilitated it, while the numerous rhetorical and linguistic devices he used guaranteed that his persuasive message brought the expected results. Coherent and logical composition, clear and vivid language, topoi, expressions and phrases aimed at reducing the distance between the sender and the receiver, adjusting the style to the audience, numerous examples, references to authoritative figures, among other things, played a vital role here. Such devices were as important as the contents of the text itself as they ensured the effectiveness of the communication.

Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje dyskusję na temat najbardziej istotnych kwestii wynikających z potrzeby opracowywania i prezentacji wykładów w taki sposób, aby tacy słuchacze byli w stanie nie tylko skutecznie opanować wiedzę przedmiotową, ale także potrafili wykorzystywać swój potencjał intelektualny, jednocześnie doskonaląc niezbędne umiejętności w zakresie języka docelowego. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono potrzebie współpracy między wykładowcą a studentem poprzez wykorzystywanie optymalnych rozwiązań dydaktycznych, dostosowanych do możliwości studentów w sytuacji pojawiających się trudności na płaszczyźnie językowej.
Academic lectures are implemented as a basic genre in developing students’ disciplinary knowledge in higher education settings. Frequently appearing in their traditional monologic form, they tend to be more interactive nowadays, due to the use of a variety of activities that accompany them, including new technologies. With the internationalization of higher education, numerous lecture attendees are now multilingual students learning through the medium of a non-native language. The aim of this paper is to explore the most vital issues that emerge when lectures are delivered to non-native students at lower language proficiency level so as to enable them to meet their study goals as well as develop their intellectual and language potential. The author argues for the need of effective collaboration between lecturers and their students, based on a better understanding of the complexity of the instructional situation in which students’ language problems can be dealt with by making appropriate adjustments that can improve both lecture comprehensibility and knowledge acquisition.

Poszukiwania skutecznej formy organizacyjnej współczesnego wykładu akademickiego doprowadziły autora niniejszego artykułu do opracowania modułowej koncepcji wykładu akademickiego, w której twórczo wykorzystano założenia: technologii kształcenia, konstruowania obudowy dydaktycznej, problemowo-semiprogramowanej ekspozycji treści wykładu, przekazu prezentacji multimedialnej, procesu komunikowania informacji oraz teorii prezentacji multimedialnej. Strukturę organizacyjną wykładu oparto na pięciu modułach: pierwszy to moduł wprowadzający; drugi – kontrolny wartościujący stopień przygotowania studentów do wykładu; trzeci – autorski, prezentujący główne treści wykładu przez wykładowcę; czwarty – sprawdzający stopień przyswojenia i zrozumienia przez studentów treści wykładu; piąty – podsumowujący i ugruntowujący poznaną wiedzę oraz zachęcający studentów do dalszej aktywności na kolejnych wykładach. Założono, że powstała nowa koncepcja organizacji wykładu umożliwi: prezentację określonego kompendium wiedzy nie tylko przy aktywnej postawie wykładowcy, lecz również studenta; harmonijne włączenie tekstów konwencjonalnych z tekstami semiprogramowanymi; zmotywowanie studentów do recepcji treści wykładu poprzez wyzwalanie różnych rodzajów ich aktywności (intelektualnej, praktycznej, empirycznej, emocjonalnej); zapewnienie sprzężenia zwrotne (student – wykładowca), co w konsekwencji pozwoli na bieżącą obserwację i ewentualną korektę organizacji i przebiegu wykładu. Wartość opisanej koncepcji wykładu poddano porównawczym badaniom eksperymentalnym. Uzyskane wyniki (tabele 1 i 2) wykazały ponad wszelką wątpliwość, że nowa modułowa forma organizacji wykładu może przyczynić się do podniesienia skuteczności kształcenia przynajmniej w tym kluczowym elemencie, jakim jest wykład akademicki.
Search for an effective organizational form of the academic lecture; lead the author of this article to elaborate a modular conception of an academic lecture, in which he used creatively such assumptions as: education technology, construction of didactic case, problem-semi-programmed lecture content, multimedia presentation direct, information communication process and multimedia presentation theory. The organizational structure of an academic lecture based on five modules: first – introduction, second – a control module that shows how students are prepared, the third one that presents the main content of a lecture, the next is a control module that checks acquisition and understanding by students and the last – summary module that consolidate a fresh knowledge and encouraging students to continue their activity on subsequent lectures. It was assumed that a new concept for the organization of the lecture was created that would enable: firstly, the presentation of a specific compendium of knowledge not only with not the active attitude of the lecturer, but also the students; secondly, harmonious combination of conventional texts with semiprogrammed texts; third, the concept will motivate students to the reception of the lecture content that trigger various types of their activity (intellectual, practical, empirical, emotional); the last, feedback (student-lecturer) that in consequences cause present observation and eventual correction of the organization and course of the lecture. The value of the lecture concept described was subjected to comparative experimental research. The results (tables 1 and 2) showed beyond any doubt that the new modular form of the organization of the lecture can contribute to the improvement of the effectiveness of education at least in this element, which is an academic lecture.

Reading and Meaning in Pascal Quignard’s work Pascal Quignard makes reading the very core of his work, drawing on his erudition to feed its content. It is not, however, to be viewed as a scholarly process to legitimize the construction of a discourse. For he is always wary of any construction of meaning and consistently exposes the illusion of Logos and reason. On the contrary, his work is aimed at deconstructing their hold on them. In La Suite des chats et des ânes, Quignard recounts the lecture given to Mireille Calle-Gruber’s students at the Sorbonne, in which he comments on the writing of his novel Les Solidarités mystérieuses. What we mean to do is follow this lesson in order to trace the meaning of the readings at work in writing.

The purpose of this article is to use North Norwegian legends and show how these oral stories have been used in the education at the Institute for Teacher Education and Pedagogic, University of Tromsø - Norway’s arctic university since the time I started this project at the end of the 1990s period. Here, there will be given a definition and expansion for the types of legends that exists, what was stated about it in the lecture plan (L97) at the time, and what created the basis for this research. An important part of this work was to collect legends in order to document this traditional material for later, as a contribution to North Norwegian cultural history and, thereby, as a gateway to establish knowledge structures.

Artykuł przybliża czytelnikowi wybrane aspekty obrazu nauczyciela akademickiego w deklaracji grupy studentów polskich i zagranicznych. W związku z zwiększającym się udziałem studentów z zagranicy w polskim rynku edukacyjnym autorka poszukiwała odpowiedzi na temat oczekiwań studentów związanych z rolą nauczyciela akademickiego. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych aspektów roli nauczyciela w opinii studentów zagranicznych oraz polskich. Badanie opinii studentów zostało przeprowadzone w maju i czerwcu 2019 roku w Akademii WSB w Dąbrowie Górniczej, gdzie uczą się studenci z Polski, Ukrainy i wielu innych krajów świata. Autorka zakładała, że z powodu różnic kulturowych obraz nauczyciela akademickiego w oczach poszczególnych grup studentów może się różnić. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika jednak, że studenci, co prawda, preferują różne formy zajęć, ale niezależnie od kraju, z którego pochodzą, oczekują aktywnego i energicznego nauczyciela, przekazującego wiedzę w sposób jasny i zrozumiały, będącego profesjonalistą w swojej pracy.
The article presents the selected aspects of the image of an academic teacher in the declarations of a group of Polish and foreign students. In connection with the growing share of foreign students in the Polish educational market, the author sought for the answers to the expectations of students related to the role of an academic teacher. The aim of the article is to present selected aspects of the teacher’s role in the eyes of foreign and Polish students. The survey of students’ opinions was carried out in May and June 2019 at the WSB Academy in Dąbrowa Górnicza, where students from Poland, Ukraine and many other countries were learning. The author assumed that due to cultural differences, the image of an academic teacher in the eyes of individual groups of students may differ. Although the research shows that students prefer different forms of classes, regardless of the country they come from, they still expect active and energetic teachers, who transform transferring knowledge in a clear and understandable way and are professionals in their work.

Quelle est la valeur du jeu pour un lecteur lorsque le texte littéraire se pense lui-même radicalement comme un dispositif ludique ? Le produit inaugural de l’Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle que fut le recueil de poésie combinatoire des Cent mille milliards de poèmes de Raymond Queneau interroge la lecture de façon exemplaire, eu égard à la double problématique qu’il suscite, de l’effacement auctorial et de l’activité lectorielle. Cet article voudrait ouvrir la voie à une requalification épistémologique de la notion d ’humour, en l’abordant comme une pratique (ludique) de mise en sens, et plus particulièrement ici comme pratique interprétative. À partir d’une conception dialectique du jeu, héritée du libre « jeu des facultés » de Kant, il se veut l’occasion d’un rapprochement peu commun entre l’humour et la lecture littéraire. Avec l’ambivalente complicité de l’auteur, la mise en scène du lecteur se confond avec la mise en sens de l’œuvre.
What is the value of play for a reader when the literary text itself is radically conceived as a ludic device? The Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle’s flagship product, Raymond Queneau’s Cent mille milliards de poèmes, a collection of combinatory poems, is an exemplary interrogation of reading, in view of the double problematic it raises: auctorial effacement and lectorial activity. The aim of this article is to pave the way for an epistemological re-qualification of the notion of humour, by approaching it as a (playful) practice of making sense, and more specifically here as an interpretative practice. Based on a dialectical conception of play, inherited from Kant’s “free play of the faculties”, it is intended as an opportunity for an unusual rapprochement between humour and literary reading. With the author’s ambivalent complicity, the reader’s own staging merges with the work’s semiosis.

Polish Romantic poets, as Konrad Górski reminded us, used punctuation in the intonation function. Norwid’s creative work coincides with the time when attempts to standardize punctuation and to introduce new syntactic rules are made. For this reason the issue of the function of Norwid’s punctuation cannot be decided as easily as in case of the three great national poets of Poland. In the original version of poems by the author of “Vade-mecum” some disturbing places can be found, where the use of a punctuation mark cannot be explained in terms of syntax. On the other hand, punctuation marks are justified when they are treated as tools that form the sound layer of the text. This role of the marks is especially important in the poem “Rzecz o wolności słowa” (On Freedom of Speech), which Norwid prepared to be read in a public lecture. By means of punctuation marks the poet included in the text indications about how to read it. This is exactly why modifications and cases of modernization of punctuation made by publishers and editors are not indifferent for the artistic form of Norwid’s works.

W pracy przedstawione zostały wyniki dwóch ankiet przeprowadzonych w styczniu 2019 na Wydziale Inżynierii Lądowej Politechniki Warszawskiej. Pierwsza z nich dotyczyła oceny przez studentów przydatności różnych rodzajów materiałów dydaktycznych. Druga obejmowała pytania do nauczycieli dotyczące wykorzystania możliwości nagrywania wykładów. Studenci akceptują materiały w postaci multimediów, preferują jednak uczenie się na pamięć gotowych rozwiązań lub odpowiedzi na pytania. Nauczyciele są raczej przeciwni i niechętnie nastawieni do nagrywania wykładów. Czy oznacza to, że na uczelniach wyższych należy powrócić do starych i sprawdzonych szkolnych metod kształcenia?
The paper presents the results of two surveys conducted in January 2019 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology. The first one concerned the students' assessment of the suitability of different types of teaching materials. The second included questions for teachers about using the possibility of recording lectures. Students accept materials in the form of multimedia, but prefer learning ready solutions or answers to the questions by heart. The teachers are rather reluctant and unwilling to record lectures. Does this mean that universities should return to old and tested school methods of education? The educational crisis has many reasons and causes, and concerns both a form and a content. From year to year, candidates for studies at the technical university are getting worse prepared in mathematics and physics. What's more, it is more and more difficult for them to make up for gaps in knowledge and skills, mainly due to bad educational habits. This situation is the reason why only 60% of those admitted to the university finish the first year. The case study concerns the studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. Students' research was conducted in the context of classes in Computer Science. As part of the course, students learn the principles of creating readable multimedia presentations, editing scientific and technical texts, conducting engineering calculations in a spreadsheet, and using the Computer Algebra System computer program to conduct and program calculations. The educational platform and multimedia are used in conducting the classes.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to compare various forms of distance learning in terms of the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and their subjective evaluation by students. Three forms of remote teaching were analysed for the elective general university course in the winter semester of the 2020/2021 academic year: G1 – with all materials embedded on an e-learning platform for fully asynchronous learning – and with no live meetings, but specially prepared video tutorials replacing them, G2 – with materials embedded on an e-learning platform and lectures conducted synchronously through videoconferences (without video recordings), G3 – with materials embedded on an e-learning platform, synchronous lectures via video conferences and their recordings available afterwards. Final grades, a record of activity at the e-learning platform and the results of questionnaires collected from all participants of the course were taken into account when carrying out the statistical analysis. The analysis proved that the most effective form of learning (the lowest number of hours devoted to learning in order to pass the subject, as well as the percentage of students who completed the course) was the one applied in group G1. According to the opinions of the students, the highest level of satisfaction from the classes was recorded for group G2. The research brings various implications for practice or policy: for teachers interested in improving the effectiveness of their online teaching; for teachers preparing an intervention with the aim of improving students’ remote learning engagement and its quality; supporting teachers’ research engagement in the improvement of educational standards and systems; and learning planners can use these insights helpful in planning online learning projects.

The text presents aspects of Olga Tokarczuk’s Bulgarian reception: translations, interviews, Bulgarian contacts, and an overview of her visit to Bulgaria in 2014. Special attention was paid to her creative friendship with Georgi Gospodinov. The Bulgarian initiatives related to Tokarczuk’s Nobel Year are presented, including the publication of the wonderful book The Lost Soul, the second edition of the novel Flights and a series of publications in the press.
