Tematem niniejszego artykułu jest prowadzona w Szwajcarii intensywna dyskusja medialna na temat sprzecznych decyzji dotyczących zwalniania z przyczyn religijnych małoletnich arabskich dziewcząt ze wspólnych lekcji pływania. Dyskusja ta jest częścią szeroko zakrojonej debaty na temat pojawiających się w niemieckojęzycznych mediach informacji o islamie. W artykule przedstawiono w zarysie obecny stan debaty, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej specyfiki w niemieckiej części Szwajcarii. Następnie omówiono relację zachodzącą pomiędzy kulturą me-dialną a konfliktem międzykulturowym. Podstawę analizy stanowi korpus (sześć gazet), z które-go losowo wybrano teksty tematycznie związane z przedmiotem debaty. Wyniki badań zostały zaprezentowane tabelarycznie, a następnie krytycznie omówione. Dzięki temu możliwe stało się uwidocznienie w publicznych (medialnych) przekazach głębszych przyczyn dość powierz-chownie traktowanego wzrastającego wyobcowania arabskiej mniejszości z goszczącego ją spo-łeczeństwa.

Mit dem vorliegenden Beitrag wird die Absicht verfolgt, den Begriff ‚Stereotyp‘ näher zu besprechen sowie das Problem der Stereotypisierung im didaktischen Kontext darzustellen. Im Rahmen der theoretischen Überlegungen wird unter anderem auf Definitionsprobleme des Begriffs sowie die Rolle von Stereotypen in der Linguistik und im Rahmen des interkulturellen Ansatzes eingegangen. Stereotype, die als „pictures in our head“ gesehen werden, sträuben sich gegen jede Berichtigung und stellen eine Art individuelle Erkenntnisstruktur dar, die einerseits die Wirklichkeit mental ordnen lässt, andererseits mit ihrer treuen Widerspiegelung nicht assoziiert werden kann. Im weiteren Verlauf des Beitrags werden Thematisierungsmöglichkeiten von stereotypen Inhalten in ausgewählten DaF-Lehrwerken dargestellt und miteinander verglichen.
Celem artykułu jest omówienie pojęcia stereotypu oraz przedstawienie problemu stereotypizacji w kontekście dydaktyki języków obcych. Rozważania teoretyczne koncentrują się wokół problemów definicyjnych pojęcia stereotypu oraz jego roli dla lingwistyki jak również w świetle interkulturowego nacechowania procesu kształcenia. Stereotypy, postrzegane jako „pictures in our heads“, są indywidualną konstrukcją poznawczą odporną na jakiekolwiek zmiany, co z jednej strony umożliwia mentalne porządkowanie rzeczywistości, z drugiej nie stanowi wiernego jej odwzorowania. W dalszej części artykułu autorka przedstawia i porównuje przykłady tematyzacji treści stereotypowych w wybranych podręcznikach do nauki języka niemieckiego.
The aim of the article is to discuss the concept of a stereotype and to present the problem of stereotyping in the context of foreign language teaching. The theoretical part deals with the problem of how to define a stereotype and with its function in linguistics as well as in the light of the intercultural character of teaching. Stereotypes – perceived as „pictures in our head“ – are individual cognitive structures resistant to any changes, which, on the one hand, makes it possible to organize the reality mentally but, on the other hand, does not allow for its fully accurate reconstruction. Later in the article, the author presents and compares examples of stereotypes in selected German textbooks.

Speech-act adverbs constitute one of the categories of epistemic expressions. There is considerable terminological confusion regarding epistemic adverbs, speech-act adverbs included. The present study uses the classification proposed by Simon-Vandenbergen and Aijmer (2007), who define speech-act adverbs as those which refer to speech acts which could potentially be used to support the speaker’s opinion or raise voices against his/her point of view, e.g. admittedly, arguably, indisputably, unarguably, unquestionably, undeniably. The aim of this study is to identify Polish equivalents of such adverbs, and analyze the cross-cultural significance of the differences between the ranges and uses of speech-act adverbs in the two languages.
Klasyfikacja przysłówków epistemicznych, a do takich zaliczyćmożna grupę przysłówków odsyłających do aktów mowy nazywanych w niniejszym artykule speech-act adverbs, nastręcza badaczom wielu trudności. Punktem wyjścia w niniejszym artykule jest klasyfikacja Simon-Vandenbergen i Aijmer (2007), gdzie mianem tym określane są przysłówki odsyłające do aktów mowy, które mogą być wykorzystane do zakwestionowania lub poparcia zdania wyrażonego przez nadawcę. W języku angielskim są to: admittedly, arguably, indisputably, unarguably, unquestionably, undeniably. Artykuł ten jest próbą ustalenia ich polskich odpowiedników, przeanalizowania kontekstów, w jakich występują w obu językach, oraz zasygnalizowania kulturowych uwarunkowań sposobów ich funkcjonowania w polszczyźnie i angielszczyźnie.

Esej ten nawiązuje do klasycznych i dzisiejszych socjologicznych i antropologicznych badań nad wielokulturowością i współczesnych koncepcji rozwijanych w tych dziedzinach. Zagadnienie wielokulturowości pojawia się też w filozofii społecznej, co najmniej od czasów Hegla, ale w szczególności w ciągu ostatnich trzech dekad. Według autora, te zjawiska, które są istotne dla wielokulturowości, niekoniecznie muszą być konsekwencją migracji, wewnątrzkrajowych czy międzynarodowych, na ogół są jednak analizowane właśnie w ramach studiów migracyjnych. Wielokulturowość może być analizowana na co najmniej trzech poziomach: faktograficznym, wartościującym i normatywnym (politycznym). Nie wydaje się, aby możliwe było w demokracjach liberalnych odejście od wielokulturowości faktograficznej. Trwanie demokracji liberalnej nie jest jednak przesądzone.
This essay refers to classical and current sociological and anthropological research on multiculturalism as well as to contemporary concepts developed within these fields. The idea of multiculturalism is also identified in social philosophy – starting from the times of Hegel to the most extensive developments occurring in last three decades. The author believes that the phenomena associated with multiculturalism are not necessarily a consequence of migration, international or otherwise. However, they are usually theorized in this context. Multiculturalism can be analyzed on at least three levels: social facts, social values, and social norms and policies. It seems that the retreat from multiculturalism on the factual level would be very difficult in liberal democracies. However, the future of liberal democracies is debatable.

Celem artykułu jest dokładniejsza analiza zachodzącej na zajęciach intensywnej komunikacji międzykulturowej, opierającej się zarówno na informacji językowej zawartej w systemie języka ojczystego każdego studenta (lub na interferencji z dominującego języka obcego), jak i z płaszczyzny kulturowej, tj. z przekładania wzorców kultury wyjściowej. Umiejętności posługiwania się nowym kodem językowym wiążą się z kompetencjami społeczno-językowymi, bez których nie można właściwie wykorzystać znajomości języka obcego w celu produkcji prawidłowych komunikatów i wyrażeń w różnych kontekstach społeczno-językowych. Wyraźna świadomość własnej kultury i tożsamości kulturowej jest kluczem do rozwoju teorii komunikacji międzykulturowej. Osoba komunikująca się w języku innym niż swój ojczysty, zmienia nie tylko system lingwistyczny, ale ramy odniesień kulturowych (a także osobowość), co potwierdza konieczność rozumienia innej kultury w celu osiągnięcia pełnej kompetencji komunikacyjnej w języku obcym. W artykule przypomniano wybrane zagadnienia z zakresu interkulturowości (i ich realizację w języku: m.in. brak ekwiwalencji pragmatycznej) oraz praktyczne przykłady trudności pojawiających się na zajęciach dydaktycznych w grupie wielokulturowej. Zrozumienie zachodzących na zajęciach procesów jest możliwe przy pomocy narzędzi stosowanych w lingwokulturologii i konfrontacji językowej.
The aim of the article is a more detailed analysis of the intense intercultural communication during foreign language classes. This type of communication is based both on the information contained in the mother tongue language system of each student as well on the cultural level, ie. when cultural patterns are translated. The ability to use a new language code are associated with socio-linguistic competence, without which one cannot really use a foreign language in order to produce correct messages and expressions in different socio-linguistic contexts. A clear awareness of own culture and cultural identity is the key to develop the theory of intercultural communication. A person communicating in a language other than his/her mother tongue, changes not only the linguistic system, but a whole framework for cultural references (as well as the personality), which confirms the need to understand another culture in order to achieve full communicative competence in a foreign language. In the article selected issues of interculturalism are reminded (and their implementation, eg. the lack of pragmatic equivalence) and practical examples of difficulties which may arise in the classroom while teaching in a multicultural group are given. Understanding the processes taking place in the classroom is possible with the help of the tools used in lincuoculturology and during linguistic comparison.

Both the occasion of Barbara Frischmuth's seventy-fifth birthday and that of her reading in Poland have inspired an examination of the cofounder of the Grazer group's presence and reception in the Germanspeaking world with that of her presence and reception in Poland. While literature by Frischmuth is enormously popular in the Germanspeaking world and her position on the Austrian cultural scene is of the first rank, there is scarce knowledge, popularity or regard for either her works or her in Poland. Only a couple of short texts and just two out of more than twenty novels have been translated into Polish. Polish academic interest seems to be limited to centers in Wrocław and Częstochowa. Since Barbara Frischmuth questions gender relations and interculturalism, her works deserve both greater attention and a more active publishing policy in Poland.
Die Untersuchung der Präsenz und der Aufnahme der Werke von Barbara Frischmuth, einer der MitbegründerInnen der Grazer Gruppe, im deutschsprachigen Raum und in Polen wurde durch den 75. Geburtstag der Autorin und ihre Lesereise in Polen angeregt. Angesichts der enormen Frequenz der Literatur von und über Frischmuth im deutschen Sprachraum und ihrem Rang in der Kulturszene Österreichs, ist die Kenntnis und Popularität ihrer Werke in Polen verhältnismäßig bescheiden. Es wurden nur zwei von insgesamt über 20 Romanen und zwei kurze Prosatexte ins Polnische übersetzt. Das Interesse seitens der polnischen Leser beschränkt sich auf wenige akademische Zentren (Wrocław, Częstochowa). Da Barbara Frischmuth in ihrem Schaffen Fragen der Geschlechterbeziehungen und der heute besonders aktuellen Interkulturalität aufnimmt, verdient ihr Schaffen mehr Aufmerksamkeit und eine aktive Verlagspolitik.
Impulsem dla zbadania obecności i recepcji utworów Barbary Frischmuth, jednej ze współzałożycieli Grazer Gruppe, w krajach niemieckiego obszaru językowego i w Polsce, był jubileusz 75. urodzin pisarki i jej wizyta autorska w Polsce. Z perspektywy ogromnej frekwencji twórczości Frischmuth i ilości literatury przedmiotowej na temat jej dzieł w krajach niemieckojęzycznych oraz znaczenia pisarki dla współczesnej kultury austriackiej znajomość jej utworów w Polsce jest stosunkowo skromna. Przetłumaczono zaledwie dwie z ponad 20 powieści, ponadto dwa krótkie teksty prozą. Zainteresowanie ze strony polskich badaczy ogranicza się do kilku centrów akademickich (Wrocław, Poznań, Opole, Częstochowa). Ze względu na aktualność i wagę poruszanej przez Frischmuth problematyki (relacje płci i interkulturowość) jej twórczość zasługuje na większe zainteresowanie i aktywniejszą politykę wydawniczą w Polsce.

This paper aims to outline the specificities of cross-border economic disputes and to present mediation as a means of solving them as an alternative to common courts, giving the parties the opportunity to settle their dispute faster and cheaper. Mediation also allows the involved parties to continue their economic relation and further develop their co-operation. In a first step the constitutive characteristics of mediation are determined and the specificity of cross-border mediation with particular emphasis onintercultural aspects is explained. In this context, the paper presents specific mediator competences necessary for effective mediation proceedings. Furthermore the legal basis for applying mediation to disputes between Polish and German entities will be described followed by the discussion of applicable regulation in both countries as well as the institutional and legal framework for mediation proceedings in the EU on cross-border economic disputes. In addition, empirical data on the scope of dissemination of mediation in both countries, the attitude of Polish and German entrepreneurs towards mediation and the difficulties of applying it due to cultural differences will be analyzed. The conclusions of the above analysis will be presented in the final section of the paper, which will provide a model of the Polish-German mediation center which aims, besides broad information activities, to create a network of professional intercultural mediators and to promote mediation as an alternative method of conflict resolution between Polish and German business entities.
Celem niniejszego opracowania jest nakreślenie specyfiki gospodarczych sporów transgranicznych oraz zaprezentowanie mediacji jako metody ich rozwiązywania, alternatywnej wobec sądów powszechnych, dającej zwaśnionym stronom możliwość zarówno ich szybszego i mniej kosztownego zakończenia, jak i kontynuowania relacji gospodarczych oraz rozwijania dalszej współpracy pomiędzy przedsiębiorcami. W pierwszym kroku określone zostaną cechy konstytutywne mediacji oraz specyfika mediacji transgranicznej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aspektów interkulturowych. W tym kontekście przedstawione zostaną specyficzne kompetencje mediatora, niezbędne do skutecznego przeprowadzenia postępowania mediacyjnego w tego typu konfliktach oraz podstawy prawne zastosowania mediacji w odniesieniu do sporów pomiędzy podmiotami z Polski i Niemiec. Omówione zostaną zarówno regulacje prawa polskiego i niemieckiego dotyczące mediacji, jak i ramy i uwarunkowania instytucjonalno-prawne postępowania mediacyjnego w UE w zakresie sporów gospodarczych o charakterze transgranicznym. Ponadto analizie poddane zostaną dane empiryczne dotyczące zakresu upowszechnienia mediacji w obu krajach, stosunku polskich i niemieckich przedsiębiorców do mediacji jako metody rozwiązywania sporów gospodarczych pomiędzy podmiotami z obu krajów oraz trudności w jej zastosowaniu wynikające z różnic kulturowych.

The core of the article constitute the letters that Edith Stein (who later became St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) and Roman Ingarden, whom she met in Gottingen, exchanged between 1917 and 1939. When they met they were both students of Edmund Husserl and were among the members of so-called Gottingen Phenomenologists’ Club that was not only of international nature but also accepted females as its members, which was quite an exception in the first two decades of the 20th century. The issues addressed in Stein’s letters to her friend from Poland centered on two aspects: behind-the-scenes functioning of the phenomenologists gathered around their master (Husserl), as well as the inner path in the course of which Stein’s spiritual metamorphosis takes place. It is obvious that with reference to the former issue, the works and the philosophical views of Edmund Husserl served as the source of intellectual inspiration. The young scholar reached beyond them though. Her philosophical achievements as well as her inner development were deeply influenced by another professor of philosophy, Adolf Reinach, thirty four years of age at that time. The latter problematic plane discussed in the letters confirms that “[t]he biography of Edith Stein is one of the most fascinating life stories not only in modern times. It is connected both with the content of her thought as well as with her life path that was bold climbing towards perfection as well as a great transformation; this transformation has been defined both as the grandest and the most complex one since the change that was the part of St Paul’s, or Saul of Tarsus, life” [in: Anna Grzegorczyk, Ponad kulturami. Uniwersalizm Edyty Stein, Poznań 2010, p. 37; own translation]. This duality of thought, seemingly referring to the realms so distant that virtually impossible to combine, become connected by one feature: the author’s universality of thought which points clearly that Edith Stein’s philosophical attitude reaches the intercultural dimension. Consequently, the brilliance of the author and philosopher becomes obvious, and „stems from the unique combination of cognitive passion with transcendent sense” [Ibid, p. 41]

As globalisation promotes cross-cultural approaches to foreign language education, the article scrutinises research on intercultural competence conducted in the field of glottodidactics. It aims at offering a possibly most comprehensive outline of our state-of-the-art knowledge of interculturality in teaching foreign languages. The following parts of the present article will look at pre- and in-service teachers, teaching materials, lesson planning, new technologies, and the age of learners, all with a view to indicating the achievements and challenges of teaching intercultural competence as an element of foreign language education.

Migration is one of the features of the modern world. It increases mainly in Europe. Italy is the country that is most exposed to immigrant influx. The subject of this study is to present issues related to migration waves in the legal and court perspective. A special part has been devoted to migration and its problems in Italy.
Migracja jest jednym ze zjawisk współczesnego świata, nasilającym się przede wszystkim w Europie. Krajem narażonym na największe przypływy imigrantów są Włochy. Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie zagadnień związanych z falami migracyjnymi oraz łączącymi się z tym zjawiskiem problemami prawnymi i sądowymi. Szczególna część artykułu została poświęcona migracji i jej problemom we Włoszech.

Opis:
The following article has two goals. The first is the presentation of theoretical approaches to the translation of culture-specific content and explanation of some relevant terms, which include culture, interculturality, intercultural competence and translational cultural competence. The second is to discuss practical teaching problems and possible solutions that translational didactics must keep in mind in its research perspective. The practical considerations relate to the transfer of written texts and to the education of students who gain their first experiences in translational activity. With questions about the text, which trigger its analysis on the macro- and microstructural level, the students should be motivated to approach cultural content reflexively and to reflect it in the target language.

The intensive programme for the Development of Intercultural Competence of European Teachers of English (DICETE) aimed at the creation of an innovative module of intercultural teacher training for English asa lingua franca, which is being implemented in four partner universities as a part of the regular curriculum. This article presents how the concept of intercultural competence (IC) was negotiated by the participants and how it related to the particular stages of the project. Techniques in the programme for developing IC are described and the addresses to their repository in which they are available are given.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli francuskiej platformy e-learningowej Arche w systemie studiów na odległość Érudi, Études et Ressources Universitaires à Distance oraz w nauczaniu języka polskiego na Uniwersytecie Lotaryńskim (UL) w Nancy. W pierwszej części przybliżono pokrótce cele, motywy nauczania języków obcych oraz zarys historyczny platformy Arche. Następnie podjęto próbę scharakteryzowania profilu studentów podejmujących naukę języka polskiego na odległość za pośrednictwem Érudi w latach 2009-2015. Skoncentrowano się również na specyficznych zagadnieniach nauczania języka polskiego z wykorzystaniem materiałów multimedialnych oraz platformy Érudi, zwłaszcza w przypadku gramatyki oraz rozumienia ze słuchu. Na zakończenie przedstawiono aktualne sposoby nauczania języka polskiego na odległość na UL oraz propozycje usprawnienia funkcjonowania platformy i metod nauczania języka polskiego w ramach e-learningu, które stanowią część moich badań w przygotowywanej rozprawie doktorskiej.
The purpose of this article is to present the role of the French e-learning platform Arche in teaching Polish at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. In the first part I will present briefly the objectives and historical review of the platform Arche. Then I will attempt to characterize the profile of students choosing online classes of Polish language between 2009-2015. I will focus also on specific issues of Polish language teaching with the use of multimedia and platform especially for grammar and comprehension. At the end of the article I will present practiced ways of online teaching Polish at the University of Lorraine and proposals to improve the functioning of the platform and methods of teaching Polish.

Artykuł poświęcony jest instytucjonalnym formom wprowadzonym przez Radę Europy w ramach Programu Miast Międzykulturowych, opracowanego w reakcji na wyzwania wiążące się ze zróżnicowaniem pejzażu kulturowego współczesnych ośrodków miejskich, zarówno w Europie, jak i na innych kontynentach. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie instrumentarium tego programu oraz krytyczna analiza jego poszczególnych elementów z zachowaniem neutralności ideowej, a z uwzględnieniem założeń nakreślonych przez Radę Europy oraz oczekiwanych rezultatów.
The article is dedicated to the institutional forms introduced by the Council of Europe in the Intercultural Cities Programme (ICC). It is aimed at responding to the challenges of the culturally diverse landscape of contemporary cities, both in Europe and on other continents. The objective of this article is to present and critically analyze the instruments of the ICC, while maintaining ideological neutrality and considering the values outlined by the Council of Europe and the expected results.
