Opis:
Recently, we have witnessed an infusion of calculating models based on models offered by nature, models with more or less fidelity to the original that have led to the development of various problem-solving computational procedures. Starting from the observation of natural processes at the macroscopic or microscopic level, various methods have been developed. Technological progress today allows the accelerated reproduction of natural phenomena in the laboratory, which is why a new niche has arisen in the landscape of nature-inspired methods. This niche is devoted to the emulation of artificial biological processes in computational problem-solving methods. This paper proposes a novel approach, which is to develop novel computational methods in the field of Natural Computing based on the semi-natural process, namely Directed Evolution. In the first step we explain Directed Evolution, defined as the artificial reproduction of the process of evolution in the laboratory in order to obtain performing biological entities. For computer scientists, this provide a strong source of inspiration in the search for efficient methods of optimization. The computational model that proposed here largely overlaps with the Directed Evolution protocol, and the results obtained in the numerical experiments confirm the viability of such techniques inspired by processes which are more artificial than natural. The paper describes a novel general algorithm, inspired by Directed Evolution, which is able to solve different optimization problems, such as single optimization, multiobjective optimization and combinatorial optimization problems.

Opis:
We have two motivations. Firstly, semantic gap is a tough problem puzzling almost all sub-fields of Artificial Intelligence. We think semantic gap is the conflict between the abstractness of high-level symbolic definition and the details, diversities of low-level stimulus. Secondly, in object recognition, a pre-defined prototype of object is crucial and indispensable for bi-directional perception processing. On the one hand this prototype was learned from perceptional experience, and on the other hand it should be able to guide future downward processing. Human can do this very well, so physiological mechanism is simulated here. We utilize a mechanism of classical and non-classical receptive field (nCRF) to design a hierarchical model and form a multi-layer prototype of an object. This also is a realistic definition of concept, and a representation of denoting semantic. We regard this model as the most fundamental infrastructure that can ground semantics. Here a AND-OR tree is constructed to record prototypes of a concept, in which either raw data at low-level or symbol at high-level is feasible, and explicit production rules are also available. For the sake of pixel processing, knowledge should be represented in a data form; for the sake of scene reasoning, knowledge should be represented in a symbolic form. The physiological mechanism happens to be the bridge that can join them together seamlessly. This provides a possibility for finding a solution to semantic gap problem, and prevents discontinuity in low-order structures.

This paper provides a comprehensive assessment of basic feature selection (FS) methods that have originated from nature-inspired (NI) meta-heuristics; two well-known filter-based FS methods are also included for comparison. The performances of the considered methods are compared on four balanced highdimensional and real-world text data sets regarding the accuracy, the number of selected features, and computation time. This study differs from existing studies in terms of the extent of experimental analyses that were performed under different circumstances where the classifier, feature model, and term-weighting scheme were different. The results of the extensive experiments indicated that basic NI algorithms produce slightly different results than filter-based methods for the text FS problem. However, filter-based methods often provide better results by using lower numbers of features and computation times.

In an era of decreasing number of discoveries of conventional hydrocarbon reservoirs, in the global oil and gas industry we can observe growing interest in unconventional resources. Conducting effective production from this type of reservoirs is associated with carrying out the intensification processes of production, among which hydraulic fracturing is the most popular. Fracturing project design consist of several technological parameters, i.e. the type of fracturing fluid and quantity of proppant, which have a direct impact on the process effectiveness. The actual shape of the fracture is difficult to predict due to the local heterogeneity of the reservoir and the superposition of the phenomena occurring during stimulation treatment. In this paper optimization model was proposed, which allows for selection appropriate parameters of fracturing technology. Developed optimization algorithm is based on two-dimensional PKN fracture model and Cinco-Ley analytical method. Optimization method used in this paper based on nature - inspired algorithms which were compared with gradient method.

Biologically inspired computing that looks to nature and biology for inspiration is a revolutionary change to our thinking about solving complex computational problems. It looks into nature and biology for inspiration rather than conventional approaches. The Human Immune System with its complex structure and the capability of performing pattern recognition, self-learning, immune-memory, generation of diversity, noise tolerance, variability, distributed detection and optimisation - is one area that has been of strong interest and inspiration for the last decade. An air conditioning system is one example where immune principles can be applied. This paper describes new computational technique called Artificial Immune System that is based on immune principles and refined for solving engineering problems. The presented system solution applies AIS algorithms to monitor environmental variables in order to determine how best to reach the desired temperature, learn usage patterns and predict usage needs. The aim of this paper is to explore the AIS-based artificial intelligence approach and its impact on energy efficiency. It will examine, if AIS algorithms can be integrated within a Smart Air Conditioning System as well as analyse the impact of such a solution.

Evolutionary multi-agent systems (EMAS) are very good at dealing with diffi cult, multi-dimensional problems. Research is currently underway to improve this algorithm, giving agents even more freedom not only to solve the problem, but also to make decisions about the behavior of the algorithm. One way is to hybridize this algorithm with other existing algorithms to create the Hybrid Evolutionary Multi Agent-System (HEMAS). Unfortunately, such connections generate problems in the form of unbalanced agent energy levels. One solution is to use an agent energy redistribution operator. The article presents three different proposals for such redistribution operators, compared them with each other and selected the best based on the results of numerous experiments.

This paper presents developments in the area of brain-inspired wireless communications relied upon in dense wireless networks. Classic approaches to network design are complemented, firstly, by the neuroplasticity feature enabling to add the learning ability to the network. Secondly, the microglia ability enabling to repair a network with damaged neurons is considered. When combined, these two functionalities guarantee a certain level of fault-tolerance and self-repair of the network. This work is inspired primarily by observations of extremely energy efficient functions of the brain, and of the role that microglia cells play in the active immune defense system. The concept is verified by computer simulations, where messages are transferred through a dense wireless network based on the assumption of minimized energy consumption. Simulation encompasses three different network topologies which show the impact that the location of microglia nodes and their quantity exerts on network performance. Based on the results achieved, some algorithm improvements and potential future work directions have been identified.

This study examines the way in which the Neoplatonic philosopher Proclus treats an episode of the dialectic communication between Socrates and Alcibiades in the Platonic dialogue Alcibiades I. More specifically, it refers to how the characteristics and the choices of two different types of lovers – the divinely inspired one and the vulgar one – are displayed in the aforementioned text. The characterization ‘divinely inspired lover’ befits a person who communicates in a pure way with his beloved one and attempts to teach the latter the objective values of the intellect. By contrast, the characterization of the ‘vulgar lover’ befits that individual that approaches another individual exclusively on the basis of his external beauty. The first type of lover is presented within the realms of the permanently qualitative, while the second as someone who satisfies solemnly his subjectivity and his instincts. Furthermore, it is interesting to note that Proclus argues that Socrates, whom he considers to represent the very definition of a divinely inspired lover, is inspired by divine powers and attempts to act towards to his fellows – in this instance to Alcibiades – in the way through which the divine providence is revealed.

5G is a fifth-generation wireless technology that enables extremely fast data transfers and massive connection capacity. Existing Mobile health technology requires more reliable connection power and data transfer rates. The purpose of this research is to design, analyse, and compare the performance of a bio-inspired lotus-shaped microstrip patch antenna array with two to three radiating elements. The proposed antenna utilizes proximity coupled indirect microstrip transmission line feeding technique operating in the 24 GHz-30 GHz frequency band. The results indicate that performance continues to improve as the number of radiating elements increases. Moreover, each radiating element is loaded with complementary and non-complementary split-ring resonators (SRRs). The performance of the proposed microstrip antenna array is then analysed and compared with and without split-ring resonators. The findings validate that the proposed bio-inspired metamaterial-based microstrip patch array antenna is more reliable and performs better than an antenna without SRRs.

A study branch that mocks-up a population of network of swarms or agents with the ability to self-organise is Swarm intelligence. In spite of the huge amount of work that has been done in this area in both theoretically and empirically and the greater success that has been attained in several aspects, it is still ongoing and at its infant stage. An immune system, a cloud of bats, or a flock of birds are distinctive examples of a swarm system. In this study, two types of meta-heuristics algorithms based on population and swarm intelligence - Multi Swarm Optimization (MSO) and Bat algorithms (BA) – are set up to find optimal solutions of continuous non-linear optimisation models. In order to analyze and compare perfect solutions at the expense of performance of both algorithms, a chain of computational experiments on six generally used test functions for assessing the accuracy and the performance of algorithms, in swarm intelligence fields are used. Computational experiments show that MSO algorithm seems much superior to BA.

This paper concerns efficient parameters tuning (meta-optimization) of a state-of-the-art metaheuristic, Quantum-Inspired Genetic Algorithm (QIGA), in a GPU-based massively parallel computing environment (NVidia CUDATMtechnology). A novel approach to parallel implementation of the algorithm has been presented. In a block of threads, each thread transforms a separate quantum individual or different quantum gene; In each block, a separate experiment with different population is conducted. The computations have been distributed to eight GPU devices, and over 400× speedup has been gained in comparison to Intel Core i7 2.93GHz CPU. This approach allows efficient meta-optimization of the algorithm parameters. Two criteria for the meta-optimization of the rotation angles in quantum genes state space have been considered. Performance comparison has been performed on combinatorial optimization (knapsack problem), and it has been presented that the tuned algorithm is superior to Simple Genetic Algorithm and to original QIGA algorithm.

All calculations performed on learning the Artificial Neuron Network are based on operations described in Hilbert space. The main idea of calculations is to replace the data from the decimal system into the quantum state in Hilbert space and perform learning operations for a neural model of the DAM system in a special manner which relay on the teaching model for each position of the quantum register for all data. This paper presents the design of a versatile mechanism that can enable new directions in amphibious, all-terrain locomotion. The simple, passive, flapped-paddle can be integrated with several structures that are well-suited for locomotion in terrestrial applications. The flapped-paddle overcomes a serious limitation of the conventional flipper where the net lateral forces generated during oscillatory motion in aquatic environments averages out to zero. The flapped-paddle and its mounting, collectively, rests in natural positions in the aquatic environment so as to maximize hydrodynamic force utilization and consequently the propulsive efficiency. The simplicity of the design enabled us to develop a simulation model that concurs well with experimental results. The results reported in the paper are based on integrating the flapped-paddle with the curved leg of the RHex hexapod robot.

The purpose of the work, presented in this article, was to obtain a price model for the Day-Ahead Market of the Polish Power Exchange (PPE). The resulting proposed models are based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and the involved suggested improvement concerns the proper selection of both the type of network and the factors used in model construction. The article also proposes a new approach to the ANN with the implemented quantum learning model. The purpose of the research was to analyze factors, which exert influence on the quality of the model, like weather or economic factors, or the type of neural network used. The model determines the relationship between the price and the volume of electricity for a given hour of the day. The mean square error and the coefficient of determination were used to measure the quality of the obtained models. The results from the experiments performed indicate the possibility of developing improved models of the Day-Ahead Market.

Opis:
In this paper, sliding mode control is used to develop two passive fault tolerant controllers for an AscTec Pelican UAV quadrotor. In the first approach, a regular sliding mode controller (SMC) augmented with an integrator uses the robustness property of variable structure control to tolerate partial actuator faults. The second approach is a cascaded sliding mode controller with an inner and outer SMC loops. In this configuration, faults are tolerated in the fast inner loop controlling the velocity system. Tuning the controllers to find the optimal values of the sliding mode controller gains is made using the ecological systems algorithm (ESA), a biologically inspired stochastic search algorithm based on the natural equilibrium of animal species. The controllers are tested using SIMULINK in the presence of two different types of actuator faults, partial loss of motor power affecting all the motors at once, and partial loss of motor speed. Results of the quadrotor following a continuous path demonstrated the effectiveness of the controllers, which are able to tolerate a significant number of actuator faults despite the lack of hardware redundancy in the quadrotor system. Tuning the controller using a faulty system improves further its ability to afford more severe faults. Simulation results show that passive schemes reserve their important role in fault tolerant control and are complementary to active techniques.

The article is an attempt of the methodological approach to the proposed quantum-inspired method of neural modeling of prices quoted on the Day-Ahead Market operating at TGE S.A. In the proposed quantum-inspired neural model it was assumed, inter alia, that it is composed of 12 parallel Perceptron ANNs with one hidden layer. Moreover, it was assumed that weights and biases as processing elements are described by density matrices, and the values flowing through the Artificial Neural Network of Signals are represented by qubits. Calculations checking the correctness of the adopted method and model were carried out with the use of linear algebra and vector-matrix calculus in MATLAB and Simulink environments. The obtained research results were compared to the results obtained from the neural model with the use of a comparative model.

The paper focuses on applying a Quantum Inspired Evolutionary Algorithm to achieve the optimization of 2D material containing two phases, 2H and 1T, of Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2). The goal of the optimization is to obtain a nanostructure with tailored mechanical properties. The design variables describe the shape of inclusion made from phase 1T in the 2H unit cell. The modification of the size of the inclusions leads to changes in the mechanical properties. The problem is solved with the use of computed mechanical properties on the basis of the Molecular Statics approach with ReaxFF potentials.

Bibliolog produced by P. and S. Pitzele in the USA, developed for pastoral purposes by U. Visualisations of architectural designs are generally popular and attractive form of presenting a final effect of an intended architectural project. It has to be noted that under the provisions of copyright law, the legal status of such visualisations may not be perceived uniformly. The main reasons for such phenomenon is both lack of legal definition of the term “visualisation” and “architectural work” which constitutes a base to each visualization. Not only does this derivation aim at carrying out the analysis and sorting out the legal concepts concerning visualisations of architectural designs, but also attempts to determine their copyright status.

Nature inspired algorithms are regarded as a powerful tool for solving real life problems. They do not guarantee to find the globally optimal solution, but can find a suboptimal, robust solution with an acceptable computational cost. The paper introduces an approach to the development of collision avoidance algorithms for ships based on the firefly algorithm, classified to the swarm intelligence methods. Such algorithms are inspired by the swarming behaviour of animals, such as e.g. birds, fish, ants, bees, fireflies. The description of the developed algorithm is followed by the presentation of simulation results, which show, that it might be regarded as an efficient method of solving the collision avoidance problem. Such algorithm is intended for use in the Decision Support System or in the Collision Avoidance Module of the Autonomous Navigation System for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships.

Based on the fundamental assumptions of quantum computing, a new method has been proposed here of converting the real numbers in decimal notation into quantum mixed numbers using the probability modules of quantum mixed number and the principle of superposition, along with a new method of quantum calculations using linear algebra and vectormatrix calculus, and the Artificial Neural Network was taught accordingly. Dequantization of quantum mixed numbers to real numbers in decimal notation using the new method of dequantization has been proposed as well. The operation of the methods introduced was shown on numerical examples.

In social sciences, learning undertaken by adults as part of their passions is still a poorly recognised problem. This article is the result of an attempt to fill this gap. The aim of the study was to reconstruct the process of adult learning inspired by passion and to identify the features specific to this type of learning. The presented considerations were placed in the interpretative paradigm. The educational biography method was used and the data was collected using unstructured, in-depth interview. Two educational lines were identified in sports enthusiast narration: non-formal and informal learning. The study conducted leads to the conclusion that learning inspired by one’s passion is highly valued by the individual (meaningful), planned, autonomous, continuous and leading to mastery. It is also reflective, voluntary and unique, focused on self-fulfilment and personal development of the individual, and it is based on strong internal motivation and a large emotional and intellectual commitment of the enthusiast.

The algorithm was prepared inspired by the battlefield, during which, at equal intervals, soldiers scour enemy forces at different speeds depending on the weapon theyhave, and then limit the scope of the battlefield. The proposed solution is based on similar assumptions. Themain assumption of the work was to present the potential profit from the combination of optimization methodsand to compare the mixed method with methods based on the idea of a swarm in terms of operating speed andthe effectiveness of finding the global optimum. The algorithm was compared with two metaheuristic algorithmsin terms of the accuracy of the solutions found and speed. Opis:
Wprowadzona metafora „metodologicznego Hyde Parku” oznacza bowiem swobodne i nieograniczone „wyrażanie i poruszanie się” badacza w toku realizowanych badań, prowadzące do tworzenia kreatywnych projektów badawczych.
The article attempts to reflect on the contemporary qualitative research practices, which are created in conditions of autonomy, openness and cognitive diversity. The applied metaphor of “the methodological Hyde Park” means a free and unrestricted “expression and movement” of a researcher during their work, that lead to the appearance of creative research projects. Making this type of projects real is connected with the creation of a new and so-far unrecognised learning area of the researcher. The reflection on this activity can focus on the following questions: which new roles are fulfilled by a contemporary researcher? In which situations and circumstances does he learn these roles? Attempting to answer these questions, I concentrated on two conducted research projects about maternity. Both are built on approaches inspired by art, amongst others, due to the use of short films as a tool of communicating research results. An important research orientation is also a performative auto/ethnography.

Opis:
The text asks the question about the role of the Word of God in connection with Pascha and its being made present in the liturgy. The article first refers to Joseph Ratzinger’s theology of liturgy. According to the Bavarian theologian, in Christian worship the historical event of the Passover (“just once”) corresponds to its continuous actuality (“once for ever”). The essence of Jesus’ words and actions – as the Son of the Father – at the Last Supper remains always present. It is then shown that the inspired writings can only be understood in connection with the words of institution at the Last Supper. The privileged time for listening to the word of God is the liturgy, during which Christ-the Lamb becomes the Exegete who opens up the deepest sense of Scripture (“Eucharistic hermeneutics”). An analogy is then presented between the entry of the past Passover into the present of the liturgy and the actualization of the events witnessed in the inspired books. This kind of “making present” is related to the sacramental transformation of the Jewish scriptures and feasts that Christ accomplished. The historical experience is not recreated, but recapitulated in the Eucharistic Passover. In the Blessed Sacrament Christ is also present in the spoken (and written under inspiration) word. In turn, the liturgy of the word is the verbal aspect of the sacramental action.

Opis:
The article in the eight paragraphs analyzes the issue of audiovisual work, in particular focusing on movie feature, providing the court rulings, in majority the Polish ones. The first section focuses on the clarification of the concept of an audiovisual work, using the textbook knowledge, the knowledge resulting from the polish Act of 4th February 1994 On Copyright and Related Rights and contained in the judgments of Polish courts, concluding that there is no leading definition of audiovisual work in the Polish legal system. Furthermore it considers the issue of co-authorship – who and to what extent has the right to call itself the creator of the audiovisual work. In this respect, it undertakes to clarify the contribution parts which pull together up the final image of an audiovisual work. In the next two sections it analyzes the beneficent of the audiovisual piece and defines the principles governing the relationship of beneficent and the author and the issue of remuneration for the authors work. In the fifth section it introduces the concept of collective management organizations, which is an organization that mediates the process of payment of accumulated remuneration to the creator. Section Six focuses on the issues of copyright protection and potential infringement, and states the rulings of courts, which allows reader to obtain a more practical understanding of the problem. Paragraph seventh evokes a complicated Polish case (the creator of „Stawka większa niż życie” vs. the creator of „Halo Hans!”). Finally paragraph eight focuses on a few cases executed in the field of copyright law in audiovisual work area in the United States.

Opis:
Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.
