Purpose: The objective of the paper is to assess the degree of influence of determinants from the environment and the internal environment of SMEs on the growth of their innovation potential (IP) and to verify the moderating effect of the cooperation with external actors and financial condition on the relationship between the influence of external and internal determinants on the innovation potential of the investigated enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the paper’s objective regression analysis has been applied. Findings: The paper presents the results of empirical research conducted among Polish SMEs during the pandemic period in 2021. The results reveal that financial condition constitutes a significant moderator of the relationship between determinants coming from the company's environment and their level of SME innovation potential. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that cooperation with entities responsible for helping to implement innovation significantly moderates the relationship between the influence of determinants coming from the internal environment of SMEs and their innovation potential. It has been also found, on the basis of a multivariate regression model, that among external determinants the strongest predictors of IP growth were socio-cultural and demographic factors, and among internal determinants: the quality management sphere and the financial sphere of the surveyed SMEs. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the conducted research is the impact of the pandemic conditions and also the location of the investigated SMEs in the region of the Lower Silesian Voivodship. Practical implications: The paper provides practical knowledge regarding the determinants of acting in the conditions related to a pandemic crisis. Originality/value: The paper provides new knowledge, analyses the external conditions and the internal environment of SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic in the region, which is known as one of the most innovative in Poland. The research is addressed to research scholars, business pretensioners and policy makers of innovative policy.

Celem artykułu jest zaproponowanie autorskiego podejścia do pomiaru innowacyjności organizacji, które bazuje na porównaniu innowacyjności organizacji do poziomu innowacyjności wzorca i antywzorca, jak również przedstawienie wyników badań empirycznych, w których zastosowano autorską metodę pomiaru. Zaproponowana syntetyczna miara innowacyjności uwzględnia cztery zmienne cząstkowe, które łącznie wyznaczają poziom innowacyjności organizacji w porównaniu z wzorcowym oraz antywzorcowym podmiotem. Badania empiryczne zostały przeprowadzone na próbie 87 korporacji międzynarodowych zorganizowanych w formie grupy kapitałowej przy wykorzystaniu metody CATI. Przeprowadzone postępowanie badawcze potwierdza możliwość wykorzystania autorskiej syntetycznej miary innowacyjności, a wyniki badań empirycznych wskazują na niską innowacyjność zbadanych organizacji – zdecydowana większość zbadanych podmiotów charakteryzuje się średnią, niską lub bardzo niską innowacyjnością.
The aim of the paper is to propose an new approach to measure the innovativeness of an organization, which is based on comparing the innovativeness of an organization to the innovativeness of the pattern and anti-pattern, as well as to present the results of an empirical study in which the method proposed was used. The synthetic measure of innovativeness takes into account four variables, which jointly determine the innovativeness of the organization in comparison to the pattern and anti-pattern entity. The empirical study was conducted on a sample of 87 international corporations organized in the form of a capital group using the CATI method. The research conducted confirms the possibility of using the authors’ synthetic measure of innovation, and the results of the empirical study indicate low innovativeness of organizations surveyed - the majority of the entities surveyed are characterized by medium, low or very low innovativeness.

Seria czterech artykułów przedstawia wykorzystanie chmur punktów oraz skaningu laserowego na budowie. Dzięki zastosowaniu skanowania laserowego można rozwiązać wiele zagadnień inżynierskich i optymalizacyjnych. W pierwszym artykule przedstawiono podstawowe informacje na temat skanerów laserowych oraz ich działania. Wyjaśniono, co wpływa na dokładność pomiarów instrumentami skanującymi i w jaki sposób odbywa się skanowanie. Przedstawiono także zagadnienie związane z wykorzystaniem skanerów do inwentaryzacji robót zanikowych i zakrywanych (zbrojenie i instalacje).
A series of four articles covers the use of point clouds and laser scanning on site. Thanks to the use of laser scanning, many engineering and optimization issues can be solved. The first article presents basic information about laser scanners and their operation. It explains what influences the accuracy of measurements with scanning instruments and how the scanning is performed. The issue related to the use of scanners for inventory of decaying and covered works (reinforcement and installations) is also presented.

Aim/purpose – This paper attempts to arrange and present the methods of measuring the competences of production enterprises in the field of product innovations. Design/methodology/approach – The method used in this paper is a literature review, in the area of new product development management. The author assumes that the review and conceptual nature of this research is dominant. Findings – The obtained results indicate the importance of measurement in product innovation competencies and provide various metrics in this field. The author proposes new indicators to measure competencies in this area, i.e., the intensity of competition on new products market. Research implications/limitations – The results provide a basis for improving efforts of production enterprises in the field of product innovations. The limitations of the study include a complex character of considered theoretical constructs. Sets of measures must be adapted to the information needs of a specific enterprise. Originality/value/contribution – The values of these indicators reflect the directions of industrial enterprises’ conduct in the process of developing new products and technologies. Moreover, these indicators show the strength of linking technology with the effectiveness of new product development, and consequently with the enterprise marketing, economic and financial efficiency. The contribution of research to the development of management sciences primarily includes the formulation of a set of indicators whose level determines product innovation competencies in industrial companies.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja najważniejszych problemów związanych z tym pomiarem, jak również próba przedstawienia i oceny efektów działalności innowacyjnej przedsiębiorstw z Polski oraz z województwa lubelskiego w latach 2016–2018 na podstawie wskaźników, takich jak: udział przedsiębiorstw innowacyjnych w zakresie innowacji produktowych i procesów biznesowych w ogólnej liczbie przedsiębiorstw oraz udział przychodów netto ze sprzedaży produktów innowacyjnych, innowacyjnych tylko dla rynku i tylko dla przedsiębiorstwa w przychodach netto ze sprzedaży, określający stopień odnowienia produkcji.
Business innovation is crucial for its survival and constructive development. Therefore, it is very important to measure it and measure the results of this activity as well as use appropriate methods for this purpose. The aim of this article is to present the main problems related to this measurement as well as an attempt to show and evaluate the results of innovative activities of companies from Poland and the Lubelskie Voivodeship in 2015–2018 based on indicators such as: the share of funds in the field of product innovation and training to support enterprises as well as the share of net sales from the sale of products, which are only innovative for the market and only for the company in net sales revenue, which indicates the degree of renewal of production.

The growing interest in measuring economic and social phenomena that are difficult to observe directly increases the need for researchers to broaden the use of multivariate statistical analysis methods. The ease of interpreting results presented in the form of rankings makes it common practice to use different methods of linear ordering of objects. If the appropriate assumptions are met, the determined set of variables allows for the construction of a synthetic measure whose ordered values provide a ranking. Such a statistical approach is quite often used in assessing the level of innovativeness of economies, and the literature abounds in various innovation indices. The starting point of this paper is a set of 27 variables on the basis of which the Summary Innovation Index is developed. After verifying the statistical assumptions and reducing the database to 21 diagnostic factors, the authors construct a total of nine innovation rankings, using different methods of linear ordering and selected procedures for normalisation of variables. The aim of the paper is therefore to assess the impact of selected methods of linear ordering (Hellwig’s method, TOPSIS method, GDM method) and various procedures for normalising variables (classic standardisation, positional standardisation, quotient transformation) on the final ranking of the EU Member States due to the level of their innovation performance. The obtained results confirm that the applied method of linear ordering and the selection of the normalisation procedure have an impact on the final ranking of the examined objects – in this case, the final ranking of the EU Member States due to the level of their innovativeness analysed in the presented research.
Rosnące zainteresowanie pomiarem zjawisk ekonomicznych i społecznych, trudnych do bezpośredniego zaobserwowania, wzmaga potrzebę badaczy do szerszego stosowania metod wielowymiarowej analizy statystycznej. Łatwość interpretacji wyników przedstawianych w formie rankingów sprawia, że powszechnością staje się korzystanie z różnych metod porządkowania liniowego obiektów. Przy spełnieniu odpowiednich założeń, wyodrębniony zbiór zmiennych pozwala na budowę zmiennej syntetycznej, której uporządkowane wartości dają ranking. Takie podejście statystyczne jest dość często stosowane w ocenie poziomu innowacyjności gospodarek, literatura przedmiotu obfituje w różne indeksy innowacyjności. Punktem wyjścia w tym artykule jest zestaw 27 zmiennych, na podstawie których opracowywany jest Summary Innovation Index. Po sprawdzeniu założeń statystycznych i zredukowaniu bazy do 21 czynników diagnostycznych, autorzy konstruują łącznie 9 rankingów innowacyjności, stosując różne metody porządkowania liniowego oraz wybrane procedury normalizacji zmiennych. Celem artykułu jest zatem ocena wpływu na ostateczny ranking krajów członkowskich UE ze względu na poziom ich innowacyjności wybranych metod porządkowania liniowego (metoda Hellwiga, metoda Topsis, metoda GDM) oraz różnych procedur normalizacji zmiennych (standaryzacja klasyczna, standaryzacja pozycyjna, przekształcenie ilorazowe).

The article presents the results of validation studies on the Inventory of Attitudes Towards Social Innovation. The measurement was conducted on public institution employees and members of non-governmental organizations, i.e., people who, due to their professional or social roles, participate in resolving local social problems. The study was conducted using cross-validation. Factor structure, internal consistency of the test and subscales, and stability over time were assessed using the test-retest method. The results indicate a three-factor structure of the phenomenon, as well as satisfactory psychometric properties of the inventory.

The consumer price index (CPI) is a common measure of inflation. Similarly to the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), it is determined using the Laspeyres index, thus data on the consumption of the basket of goods do not have to be current. The Laspeyres index, using weights only from the base period, may not reflect changes in consumer preferences that occurred in the studied year. This is the reason for the formation of the so-called substitution bias in the measurement of inflation. The aim of the article is to assess the impact of the level of innovativeness of a given country’s economy on the occurrence of the substitution effect. The empirical part of the article is based on basic innovation indices, i.e. the SII, IOI, and GII. The assessment of the relationship between the level of innovativeness and the scale of the substitution effect was carried out based on the methods of multidimensional statistical analysis (including cluster analysis, the PROFIT method).

Innowacyjność jako narzędzie przedsiębiorczości jest jednym z najważniejszych zasobów wpływających na tempo procesów gospodarczych. Skupia się ona w głównej mierze na określaniu pozycji konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstw, sektorów gospodarki, poszczególnych państw, regionów, gmin oraz integrujących się krajów. Innowacyjność gospodarki określa się najczęściej jako motywację uczestników procesów gospodarczych do ciągłego poszukiwania nowych wyników badań, nowych koncepcji i pomysłów do wytwarzania ulepszonych urządzeń, materiałów oraz usług kierowanych na rynek. Innowacyjność regionu jest funkcją takich cech, jak: motywacja, zdolności przedsiębiorstw do poszukiwania nowych pomysłów, koncepcji i wynalazków oraz ulepszania już powstałych, współpracy między przedsiębiorstwami, lokalnych umiejętności i doświadczeń, współpracy sfery publicznej z przedsiębiorstwami, współpracy nauki z przedsiębiorstwami. Efektywność tych powiązań przenosi się na stopień generowania oraz absorpcji innowacji w regionie. Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest określenie znaczenia innowacyjności w gospodarce regionów. Celem stało się wskazanie roli innowacji w procesie konkurencyjności regionów. Pomiar innowacyjności jest bowiem istotnym narzędziem różnicowania regionów, pozwalającym wskazać na obszary, od których zależy ich poziom rozwoju. Z przeprowadzonej analizy wynika, że w procesie tworzenia nowych technologii, przenikania innowacji i zarządzania transferem, najważniejsza jest współpraca przedsiębiorstw i naukowców, będąca podstawowym poziomem wzajemnych relacji w regionie. Władza samorządowa nie uczestniczy bezpośrednio w tworzeniu technologii, ale odgrywa bardzo ważną rolę w tworzeniu warunków do kształtowania GOW, często też sama kreuje transfer technologii z nauki do biznesu.
Innovation as an entrepreneurial tool is one of the most important resources influencing the pace of economic processes, focusing primarily on determining the competitive position of enterprises, sectors of economy, individual states, regions, municipalities and integrating countries. Business innovation is most often referred to as the motivation of business process participants to continually seek new research and new ideas, to produce improved equipment, materials, and services targeted to the marketplace. Innovation of the region is a function of motives, the ability of companies to seek new ideas, concepts and inventions, and to improve existing ones, co-operation between enterprises, local skills and experience, co-operation between the public sphere and enterprises, co-operation between science and business. The efficiency of these relationships is transferred to the degree of generation and absorption of innovation in the region. The subject of the study is to determine the importance of innovation in the economy of regions. The aim of the study is to show the role of innovation in the process of regions’ competitiveness. Measurement of innovation is an important tool for diversifying regions, allowing to indicate the areas on which their level of development depends The analysis shows that in the process of creating new technologies, infiltration of innovations, transfer management, the most important is the cooperation of enterprises and scientists, which is the basic level of mutual relations in the region. Local government does not participate directly in the creation of technology, but it plays a very important role in creating the conditions for shaping the KBE, often it creates the transfer of technology from science to business.

The aim of this paper is to explain the nature of management innovation, as well as to propose its measurement instrument. The paper offers a review of key publications on management innovation published in research journals within the last two decades. The critical analysis – primarily focused on definitions, the proposed dimensions of management innovation and the scales used for their measurement – has allowed for the development of an original tool for measuring management innovation (MI). Five dimensions of management innovation are proposed, namely, strategic dimension, structural dimension, employee motivation and development dimension, interorganisational relations and partnership dimension, and ICT dimension. Using survey data of 301 employees from different companies in Poland, the validation of the management innovation measurement instrument was conducted. Internal consistency analysis (Cronbach’s alpha) and factor analysis, used to test the statistical reliability of the tool, yielded satisfactory results. The findings of this study contribute to advancing innovation research, particularly the state of knowledge on management innovation. Implications for both research and managerial practice are also presented. The proposed five-dimension management innovation model can be used to measure the scope of management innovation in further research and develop the knowledge about links between MI and an organisation’s performance or its impact on technological innovativeness. In addition this study uncovers a wide range of information on management innovation issues for interested parties and for future research.

Employee Suggestion Schemes have been used in organizations for a long time due to the fact that they enable fostering of creative ability of employees. However, they must be used effectively and in a sustainable manner to better the creativity and innovation capacity of organizations in order to improve competitive advantage. Therefore there is a need to understand the maturity of Employee Suggestion Schemes. This paper proposes a new, structured evaluation tool for assessing an organizational Employee Suggestion Scheme maturity. It suggests five building blocks: Leadership and Work Environment, System Capability, System Effectiveness, Organizational Encouragement and System Barriers, each of them characterized by several relevant indicators and an assessment/grading scale in order for an organization to be able to determine the maturity level of their Employee Suggestion Scheme as: Initial stage, Development stage or Advanced stage. Organizations should apply this tool to assess the maturity level of their Employee Suggestion Scheme and draw a roadmap for its improvements.

Opis:
Innovativeness in Europe has been a formulated goal of the EU since the Lisbon Strategy. One of the goals of the new Europe 2020 Strategy is smart growth, i.e. growth based on knowledge and innovation. This requires improving the quality of education and research results, the transfer of knowledge and innovations between countries, and broader commercialization of research results. Hence, the measurement of innovation evolves in order to reflect the factors that determine the level of innovativeness of economies. The purpose of this paper is to present the level of Poland’s innovativeness against the background of the EU countries, using the SII (Summary Innovation Index).
Innowacyjność Europy stała się celem UE już w Strategii Lizbońskiej. W nowej Strategii Europa 2020 jednym z celów jest rozwój inteligentny czyli oparty na wiedzy i innowacji. Wymaga to podniesienia jakości edukacji, wyników działalności badawczej, transferu wiedzy i innowacji między krajami i większej komercjalizacji wyników badań. Stąd pomiar innowacyjności ewaluuje by ująć czynniki, które decydują o poziomie innowacyjności gospodarek. Stąd celem opracowania jest przedstawienie poziomu innowacyjności Polski na tle krajów UE za pomocą SII (Summary Innovation Index).

Article is mainly theoretical. It presents an overview of different perceptions on enterprises innovativeness and approaches to its measurement and assessment, paying attention to a number of related to this task problems or ambiguities and outlining some ideas for change.

Opis:
This article introduces the newest trends and approaches to measuring and evaluating business innovation. Diverse sets of benchmarks and indicators of business innovation measurement which appeared in both Polish and foreign publications in the last few years are presented here. The article also indicates the most common mistakes committed by business entities in innovation measuring and in the usage of innovation indicators, as well as their significant role in future forecasting. Finally, following the analysis of available approaches, the conditions of a proper and effective practical usage of such indicators are discussed. The aim of the article is the analysis and comparison of chosen new approaches to measuring business innovation.
W artykule przedstawiono najnowsze nurty i podejścia do zagadnienia pomiaru i oceny innowacyjności przedsiębiorstw. Zaprezentowano różnorodne zestawy grup mierników i wskaźników do pomiaru innowacyjności przedsiębiorstw przedstawione w polskich i zagranicznych źródłach literaturowych w ciągu ostatnich kilku lat. Ukazano także główne błędy popełniane przez przedsiębiorstwa w pomiarze ich innowacyjności i stosowaniu wskaźników innowacyjności oraz szczególną rolę prognostyczną. W wyniku analizy stosowanych podejść przedstawiono warunki ich i efektywnego stosowania w praktyce przedsiębiorstw. Celem artykułu jest analiza i porównanie wybranych nowych podejść do pomiaru innowacyjności przedsiębiorstw.
