Opis:
Every year, a large amount of mineral processing wastewater is discharged from various industries into the environment which is considered a challenging task not only because of its large volume, but more importantly, its hazardous components, while its reuse as feedwater without proper treatments causes great harm to the final product of these industries. Cost-effective methods are required to treat a wide range of industrial wastewater in a diverse range of conditions. In this study, a combined hydrocyclone-electrocoagulation system is tried to treat the wastewater for industries with high water consumption and high pollutants such as paper industry, iron and metal forming industry, and marble industry. The effects of the hydrocyclone operational parameters, such as feed inlet pressure and diameter, vortex finder diameter, apex diameter, and feed solids content, were investigated. In the case, wastewater of paper industry, the following optimum conditions $(P = 4.5$ bar, $D_o = 15.8 mm, D_u = 6 mm, D_i = 4 mm and c_s = 2.3%)$ were achieved. An overflow of about 90.58% water recovery and 21.45% solid at 75.92% separation efficiency was obtained. The results showed that the hydrocycloneelectrocoagulation treatment has efficiently treated the three different types of industrial wastewater. The chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total solid (TS), total suspended solids (TSS), colour and turbidity, were reduced sharply and met the effluent discharge or reuse standards. Also, compared with the hydrocyclone-treated wastewater, the hydrocyloneelectrocoagulation-treated wastewater was found to be more enhanced.

Opis:
Over the last few years, a change has been noticed in the approach to shaping legal regulations in the economic field, and this has become the motive for a new approach to self-regulation. The change consists in the fact that the legislator mainly defines the purpose of a regulation, the regulatory framework, and the sanctions. However, it does not contain specific provisions indicating how an economic entity should fulfill the purpose of a given regulation. Thus, it leaves the broad sphere undefined. The legislator indicates what is expected, what the sanction for non-compliance will be, but it does not indicate exactly how business owners should achieve this compliance. The aim of the article is to describe a new trend of self-regulation, from the perspective of the role that industry organizations can play. Three examples of new acts in the field of commercial law are analyzed, which are characterized by a lack of clarity and are part of the case-law framework. Two initiatives of an industry organization which clarify unclear legal provisions are pointed out. The analyses make it possible to state that the industry organizations are able to take responsibility for interpretations of imprecise regulations in the field of commercial law. The organizations are also able to set standards of conduct and develop industry self-regulation so that they are respected by the industry and the legislator as a response to the new model of shaping the law.

Energy consumption during waste water treatment is a very important factor affecting food industry plants. Apart from highly efficient treatment of dairy and meat sewage, a low energy consumption is required in order to lower its costs. During the research period, parameters of raw and treated sewage were tested (BOD,COD, N-total, P-total). Also, the energy consumption from selected processes as well as total consumption were measured. Indicators of energy consumption per m3 and removed load were calculated. It was found that biological treatment and aeration played the main role in energy consumption in both objects. It was respectively 40 and 47% for Bielmlek and JBB plants. The second biggest energy consuming stage of treatment in both objects was sludge processing. Energy required to process excessive sludge equaled 30% of the total energy usage in both plants. Energy consumption factors related to hydraulic flow gave results in the range from 2.05 to 3.3 kWhm-3and from 2.72 to 3.23 kWhm-3 for Bielmlek and JBB plants respectively. The research will be continued in order to optimize energy consumption, while retaining high efficiency treatment in food industry WWTPs. Finally, a mathematical model will be prepared for optimizing energy consumption in food industry WWTPs.

Opis:
The Armenian textile and apparel industry has showed very sharp ups and downs throughout its history. During the Soviet era, it was a leading branch of Armenian industry and a major supplier for the whole Soviet Union. Since the early 90s, the situation has dramatically changed. Analysis showed that during the transition from centrally planned to a market- -based economy, Armenia’s textile and apparel industry was nearly destroyed. Nowadays the industry, especially the apparel industry, is regarded as one of most promising sectors of the Armenian economy. This potential has also been discovered by Western and Russian institutions and enterprises, which have begun to invest heavily in this sector.

The paper presents results from social research on the Polish business representatives potentially interested in using the floating buildings. The main purposes of the study were to assess the level of knowledge about floating buildings and diagnose stimulants and inhibitors of their development in the hotel, catering, and water tourism industry. Combining the quantitative and the qualitative methodology, research was conducted using an on-line survey (CAWI) and Focused Group Interviews (FGI). Both involved a non-probabilistic, purposive sampling to reach a specific subgroup of the industry: owners or employees of catering, hotel or water tourism companies having or considering having a floating building. The group included both new and long-standing companies using facilities on water or with direct and indirect access to the water. The study identified stimulating and inhibitory factors broken down into internal (context-independent) and external (context-dependent) conditions. Results show that in Poland floating commercial buildings are a niche topic but also a developable one. Although 71% of the respondents notice difficulties resulting from the insufficient infrastructure and 66.5% of them indicate the lack of legal regulations, they also see the potential of floating buildings: depending on the industry, from 90 to 95% respondents find them “definitely attractive” or “rather attractive”. The most common reason for rejecting floating development is the lack of attractive moorages in the area (43.5% answers).

It is commonly believed that the current economic state of many countries is at the stage of the fourth industrial revolution. The changes resulting from this revolution are affecting all sectors of the economy, including the printing sector. The aim of this article is to analyse the state of the art technology in sheetfed printing and then to identify the challenges for further changes in the technology of this type of printing as well as technological and organisational changes in the processes of preparation and realisation of printing products. The article uses case studies of selected technologies offered by key technology suppliers in this area and case studies of selected business entities – manufacturers of printing products. The research approach adopted in this article also takes conceptual work into account. It was found that the observed changes in the printing industry are consistent with the assumptions of the Industry 4.0 concept in the aspect of the digitisation and mass personalisation of products, which leads to the thesis that in the future personalised digital printing ordered through self-service will play a dominant role.

Opis:
The situation of the Polish oil industry after independence was difficult. Cut off from pre-war markets, the weakness of the internal market and increasing competition in external markets resulted in low profitability and a successive decline in production volumes. Competition also became a new threat from the state-backed distillery industry, which was pushing the concept of marketing fuel blends containing spirits. Their entry into the market, despite the objections of oil companies, meant that some gasoline had to be replaced with spirits and their ability to sell on the domestic market was limited. The negative effects of this were consistently raised by oil industry representatives. It wasn't until an improvement in the economy in the second half of the 1930s that a gradual change in the perception of spirit propelled blends appeared. Under conditions of growing domestic demand with relatively constant production volumes, a significant reduction in fuel exports became possible, and spirits were able to become a desirable additive to diesel blends, as evidenced by the increase in their purchases by oil companies.

Opis:
The author discusses a new method, rarely used in Poland so far − a method of mapping cultural industries and creative industries. The concept of mapping creative industries is founded on the Anglo-Saxon ground and goes beyond the usual plotting of the maps. This method enables countries, regions and cities to estimate the value of the creative sectors. It is based on determining a set of analytical methods for collecting and presenting information on the scale and the scope of the creative industries. In mapping, both quantitative and qualitative methods are used, as well as such sources of knowledge, as literature review, analysis of official government data, research on specific sectors, analysis of data from non-governmental sources, analysis of the industry informants and case studies. Mapping can be a valuable tool in lobbying the creative class, but its main purpose is to deepen the knowledge about this sector of the economy, which is still not sufficiently analyzed. The author considers and analyses not only mapping as a way to describe the dynamic sectors of culture, but also the very definition of mapping the creative sector, outlining the opinion and comments of Krzysztof Stachowiak, a researcher of problems of concentration of cultural industries. What serves as a frame of the article, is the description of the film industry growing currently in Gdynia and the ways in which this mini-industry can bedescribed using the principles of mapping creative industries.

Opis:
Thailand hosts over 50 percent of the world’s top OEM automotive parts suppliers and additionally is home to over 2,400 Tier 1-3 manufacturers and suppliers. Given the significance of these numbers and Thailand’s leading ranking and contribution to the global automotive industry, research was undertaken to determine how manufacturing clusters and innovation capability effect competitive advantage as it relates to automotive production part management. Multiple objectives were established which included the study of the effects and overall influences of the various variables on competitive advantage as well as the development of a structural equation model (SEM) to define how innovation and manufacturing clustering affects the competitive advantage within the Thai automotive parts molding sector. Quantitative methods analysis was conducted on the data from 240 automotive production and components suppliers’ questionnaires collected from industry managers with the research results partially obtained from the analysis by use of (PLS)-graph. Qualitative research was also obtained by use of purposive sampling from in-depth interviews from ten senior managers. The results obtained indicated that clusters and innovation capability has a significant and positive effect on competitive advantage. Thus, the findings from the research illustrate that if an organization focuses on clusters, there will be a knock-on effect within the automotive parts groups leading to the increase in innovation capability, which creates a greater competitive advantage, not only for the enterprises, but also for Thai society as well.

Opis:
The relatively limited application of lean in the food process industries has been attributed to the unique characteristics of the food sector i.e. short shelf-life, heterogeneous raw materials, and seasonality. Moreover, barriers such as large and inflexible machinery, long setup time, and resource complexity, has limited the implementation and impact of lean practices in process industries in general. Contrary to the expectations in the literature, we bring in this paper a successful experience of lean implementation in a company of the food-processing sector. By focusing on two lean tools (VSM and SMED), the company reduced changeover time by 34%, and increased the production capacity of the main production line by 11%. This improvement enabled the company to avoid the use of temporary workers by extending the worktime of its workforce during peak months. Moreover, the reduction of setup time avoided the use of large lot size in production, which, in turn, reduced the total cycle time of production and the incidence of quality problems.

Knowledge transfer from universities to the socio-economic environment is becoming increasingly important. This challenge also applies to researchers in the field of tourism. The article examines the potential of knowledge transfer, understood as a university’s ability to engage in cooperation with external stakeholders. The aim of this work is to identify this potential on the basis of the number and subjects of research projects qualified for funding by the National Science Center in Poland. According to this study, the number of research grants dedicated to tourism is insufficient. Taking into account the projects, an assessment of knowledge transfer potential is favourable due to the broad scope and relevance of the research.

Opis:
Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) is a native plant to North America. Its tubers were adopted as a source of food and inulin [3]. The substances obtained from tuber, shoots and flowers can be used in medicine, cosmetics or food industry as a valuable food additive. Inulin is extracted from jerusalem artichokes. It is a white, odorless, soluble powder with a slightly sweet taste and no aftertaste. It contains a mixture of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides which are composed of fructose units connected by β (2-1) links (Fig. 1). Almost every molecule is terminated by a glucose unit. The typical total number of fructose and glucose units in inulin is 30-35. The potential of jerusalem artichoke as a source for inulin, a natural polymer that may provide dietary health benefits for obesity, diabetes, increased calcium and magnesium absorption [41–43], while promoting the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria and several other health issues and the possible use of the crop for biofuels [17], pharmacy and cosmetics and plastics manufacturers is drawing recent interest. The health benefits of inulin provide numerous opportunities to develop functional foods in various sectors such as dairy, bakery, beverage, cereals and cereal bars, supplements, confectionary, ice cream, infant formulas, fat spreads. Inulin cannot be digested by the digestive enzymes nor broken down by the gastric acids in the human digestive system. Therefore, these non-digestible carbohydrates function as insoluble fibers. However, dietary fibers influence the consistency of stomach and bowel content, the rate of discharge from the stomach and intestines and thus the rate at which nutrients and other desirable undesirable substances are absorbed. Furthermore they have an intensive effect on human bowel movements. This makes dietary fibers an essential part of our daily menu. Several methods for inulin extraction from Jerusalem artichoke tubers have been described in this paper [7, 11, 14]. For instance, ultrafiltration can reduce the purification procedure due to convenience and rapidity (fewer steps), thus showing a promising prospect for industrial purposes [24, 29, 31].

Opis:
Circular economy is the answer to the inevitable need to reduce the impact on the environment. Closing production cycles means desisting from the current linear model, which delivers huge amounts of waste. The circular economy model is based not only on eco‑efficiency, but also on the right approach in product design and re‑use. The overriding objective of the circular economy is to minimize the amount of waste produced or to eliminate it completely. The textile and apparel industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, generating waste mainly in the form of clothes. The problem of huge quantities of unused clothing is further compounded by the idea of fast fashion and excessive consumption. This article outlines the steps that should be taken to implement the basic assumptions of the circular economy in the textile and apparel industry, thus demonstrating the potential for this concept in the garment industry. The author also explains the basic guidelines of closed‑loop economy and points to the specific characteristics of the textile and apparel industry and its environmental impact.
