Opis:: Using the voices of 196 infertile women we analyze women’s infertility from the perspective of identity theory. Results illustrate how the potential identity of becoming a biological mother can have an extremely high level of salience, therefore women enact behaviors that attempt to make the potential identity of motherhood a reality. However, because a discrepancy exists between the potential and actual identities, these women experience harmful consequences until they either become pregnant or choose to stop infertility treatments. By understanding how these women create, interpret, and sustain the potential identity of being a biological mother while struggling to reject a possibly permanent infertile identity, this study offers new insights into both the social process of infertility and identity theory.

Opis:: How do activists manage life commitments and membership in a radical social movement organization? Starting with the assumption that activists are ‘more than activists’ who have personal lives that can affect their movement lives, I use identity theory to analyze how competition among identities influences participation in the organization to which they belong. I also assess how the collective identity of a revolutionary socialist organization affects the personal identities of activists. This movement identity is labeled ‘socialist identity’ which must then compete with other identities that the activist may possess. The methods used were modified life history interviews of former and current members, participant observations, and content analysis of the organization’s documents.

Opis:: In 1966, Leroi Jones, soon to be Amiri Baraka, outlined a program to reorient the philosophical underpinnings of Black study. Modes of inhabiting and thereby constructing the domains in which one participates were revealed as a function of one’s mode of expression. Jones/Baraka proposed that blackness was expressed by the operation of a collective improvisation. How can improvisation, traditionally conceived as an individual activity, be a collective process? Taking our cue from articulation theory and the request that it be formalized by Stuart Hall, we explore what may superficially seem counter-intuitive but is able to be modeled by way of an explanation of its generative syntactic structure. In so doing, puzzles associated with identity theory, intersubjectivity, and modalities of expression are revealed as not as intractable as they are assumed to be, especially within the discipline of Black studies.

Opis:: An analysis of the web application supporting the management of the gym was carried out, which was designed in terms of the theory of control and systems. The obtained results of measurements of input and output quantities of selected subsystems were used to carry out the identification, as a result of which models of web application subsystems were obtained. On the basis of the obtained subsystem models, appropriate models were then designed in Simulink for the purposes of simulation and comparative studies of the behavior of subsystem models in relation to real systems that are web applications, including an appropriate analysis of the web application system model was carried out under the name of the gym on its selected subsystems, including in particular the subsystem called Generating a diet. In addition, testing and simulation studies were carried out to check the correct functioning of the web application management system model and the introduction of appropriate changes to the model was proposed, and the obtained research results were discussed, indicating the high accuracy of the obtained web application models.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to present how transmen perceive their masculinity while constructing it during the process of transition in Poland. One’s own sexual identity can be demonstrated in various ways. However, transsexual people frequently follow stereotypical images of being a woman or a man. They seek a clear and obvious message so as to express themselves and their sex. It is related to forming their own image, appropri- ate body-language and their behavior towards the opposite sex. That is why transsexual people tend to choose sexually unambiguous clothing, avoiding unisex fashion.

Opis:: Based on the Tajfel’s and Turner’s Social Identity Theory an own research was constructed. The aim of the study was to check whether stereotyping and prejudices occur in relations between groups of army civilians and soldiers working together in the Polish Navy. In a questionnaire, 96 soldiers and 104 army civilians reported perceptions of their own vocational group and of the out-group and expressed dehumanization of the in- and out-group members. Respondents showed in-group favoritism in trait and emotion evaluations, but mutual dehumanization did not occur. However, it is interesting to note that, the group of regular soldiers was dehumanizing itself. The most important finding for practice is that members of both groups who have participated in integration workshops showed lower in-group favoritism, than integration non-participants. The implications of these results are discussed.

Opis:: This paper gains a deeper understanding of the professional role identities of vocational teacher educators (VTEs) when compared with mainstream teacher educators (MTEs) in Malta. It is framed using identity theory from the structural symbolic interactionism perspective (Burke and Stets 2009). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, adopting thematic analysis. Findings show that VTEs and MTEs underpin their teaching differently, influenced by the perceptions they have about their professional role identities. There is no “one size fits all” solution for each country, yet this study contributes to a field with a limited research base and offers new insights to identity theory.

Opis:: The issue of the relation between the mind and the brain is known as one of the most discussed problem of the philosophy of mind. The recent development of neuroscience contributed significantly to animate the discussion on this subject. This article is one voice in this discussion. It contains a critical analysis of some arguments in favor of the theory which claims that the mind is identical to the brain. Moreso, it is argued, that the observed correlations between physical and mental events cannot be treated as a proof that there is no difference between the mind and the brain.

Opis:: This paper discusses a wide range of anti-naturalistic argument from reason due to Balfour, Haldane, Joad, Lewis, Taylor, Moreland, Plantinga, Reppert, and Hasker. I argue that none of these arguments poses a serious challenge to naturalists who are identity theorists. Further, I argue that some of these arguments do not even pose prima facie plausible challenges to naturalism. In the concluding part of my discussion, I draw attention to some distinctive differences between Hasker’s anti-naturalistic arguments and the other anti-naturalistic arguments mentioned above.
Autor omawia wybrane antynaturalistyczne argumenty z rozumu, proponowane przez takich myślicieli, jak Balfour, Haldane, Joad, Lewis, Taylor, Moreland, Plantinga, Reppert i Hasker. Jak utrzymuje, żaden z tych argumentów nie stanowi poważnego wyzwania dla naturalistów, którzy są zwolennikami teorii identyczności. Co więcej, twierdzi, że niektóre z nich nie stanowią nawet przekonujących wyzwań dla naturalizmu wziętego w ogólności. W końcowej części tekstu autor zwraca uwagę na pewne wyraźne różnice między antynaturalistycznymi argumentami Williama Haskera a pozostałymi argumentami omawianymi w artykule.

Opis:: The article is the presentation of the work on the upgrading of the test to measure levels of identity in adulthood. The test is based on the theory of identity statuses James Marcia who describes four statuses: identity diffusion, foreclosures, moratorium and achievement. Basic calculations were made with a view to standardization and normalization of questionnaire. This test was designed to research of the teachers' identity in early adulthood. It was also used in studies of young adults with schizophrenia. Currently, studies are ongoing identity of adults from families with different emotional relationships that allow for verification of the calculations.
