Opis:
The paper examines the beginnings of biblical monotheism. The author indicates the period of the Babylonian exile as the moment of the emergence of this idea in Israel. Psalm 82 is interpreted here as a testimony to the monotheistic transformation. The author advocates a literal understanding of the content of the psalm, as an image of the judgement over pagan gods, which ended in their condemnation to death. The reason for this dethronement of the entire pantheon is the permanent inability of the gods to ensure justice on earth. According to the psalmist, it is a feature of the only true God, which is the God of Israel, called upon to take power over the whole earth.

In the paper, the issue of the Lamb’s wrath connected with the opening of 6th seal in the Book of Revelation 6:17 is analyzed. The Lamb’s wrath is itself unusual and paradoxical, because a lamb is not an animal associated with wrath. Hence, in the biblical studies, more attention is paid to the victory and glory of the Lamb, and to His role in the salvation of human beings, as well as to His marriage supper. The present study covers the context of 6th seal opening and subsequent plagues and disasters with references to Rabbinic literature and Biblical passages. In particular, the shake of universe and horror of people are discussed. In addition, the comparison of human anger and God’s wrath was performed.
W artykule przeanalizowano zagadnienie gniewu Baranka pojawiającego się w opisie wizji złamania szóstej pieczęci w Księdze Objawienia (Ap 6,17).  Gniew Baranka jest czymś niezwykłym i paradoksalnym sam w sobie, gdyż baranek nie jest zwierzęciem kojarzącym się z gniewem. Dlatego też w badaniach zazwyczaj więcej uwagi poświęca się zwycięstwu Baranka i Jego chwale, a także roli, jaką odegrał w zbawieniu ludzi, i Jego uczcie weselnej. Niniejsze studium obejmuje kontekst złamania szóstej pieczęci oraz następujących po nim plag i nieszczęść z odniesieniami do literatury rabinicznej i tekstów innych ksiąg biblijnych. Osobno omówiono poruszenie kosmosu oraz przerażenie ludzi spowodowane gniewem baranka. Dokonano też porównania gniewu ludzkiego z gniewem Bożym.

L’auteur du présent article se pose pour but d’apporer la résponse à une question qui continue d’être l’objet de controverse: des mots tels que ʽădat-ʼel, ělōhîm ou benê eliōn doivent-ils être interprétés littéralement, dans lequel cas ils signifieraient les dieux des paiens, ou parlent-ils, de façon métaphorique, des juges injustes? Ayant examiné, de façon critique, l’interprétation littérale et se basant sur des textes tels que Ex. 21, 6 et 22, 7, Ex. 18, 13-27, Deut. 1, 9-18 et sur le Psaume 45, 7, l’auteur penche pour Interprétation métaphorique. L’analyse du contenu du Psaume 82 semble confirmer une telle opinion. Cependant, dans la représentation du jugement de Jahw e sur les juges injustes, l’auteur du Psaume 82 se servit de quantité d’images de mythologie autre qu’israélienne pour évoquer l’apparition future de Jahwe jugeant l’lsraël.

The present article shows the theme of God’s wrath against Israel and his enemies in the targums – the most ancient Aramaic translations and commentaries of the Hebrew Bible. The author places this topic in a wider context of God’s justice and God’s mercy stressing three aspects: 1. God’s wrath against the sinners; 2. God as the Judge acting withe the justice; 3. God’s wrath in the context of God’s mercy. In the article the author shows the specific of Aramaic translations regarding God’s wrath giving textual examples. He concludes that the targums functioning as the bridge between the Torah and the Gospel show that God’s mercy is stronger than God’s wrath. The interpretation of God’s wrath in the targums prepares the teaching of Jesus about the God’s justice in the context of God’s mercy.

One can research the religious life and choices of the local aristocrats through the analysis of their private dedications only. The results prove that these people were personally less involved in the imperial cult or in the trendy exotic religions, preferring the Roman deities, mainly Jupiter and the ones defending the home, the welfare and the health.

The object of this paper is to analyze the Koranic symbolism of water in the light of the Islamic conception of nature as well as God’s attributes and His attitude towards His creatures. According to the Qur’an, God made from water every living thing. Rain, rivers, seas, streams and springs are signs and manifestations of God’s existence in the universe. Water is also regarded as one of God’s favors on His servants. There are numerous Koranic verses relating water as a vehicle of penalty both in the wordly life and in the hereafter. In the Koranic eschatological descriptions, it also appears as God’s reward for believers in paradise.

The author of the article Christ as the face of the Father’s mercy. A top-down and theophanic conception of God’s Mercy draws the most fundamental approach to the mystery of mercy as a form of the inner revelation of the Triune God's life from the ample Polish literature devoted to the issue of God’s Mercy, and analyzes it. Also practicing mercy, according to this conception, may be done in the right way if its features are recognized in Jesus Christ the Incarnated Son’s deeds. The author calls this perspective of theology of mercy “a top-down conception”, as humanity is not able to comprehend the essence of mercy without the aid of the supernatural world that, on the one hand, shows what God is like in His essence, and on the other, how one should follow God to be saved. God's self-revelation in the salutary events becomes – according to the author – the best interpretation key of God's theology of mercy, showing His Trinitarian character.

First staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2010, Dennis Kelly’s The Gods Weep is an attempt to update the well-known story of King Lear to contemporary times. It focuses on Colm, an aging CEO who decides to divide his company evenly between two of his employees at the price of his only son’s share, a decision that results in escalating a bloody conflict that tears apart the business empire. Despite featuring an all-star cast and having the full support of the RSC, The Gods Weep received mixed to wholly negative reviews and was criticized for being chaotic, lengthy and not faithful enough to the masterpiece of the Bard. The present article addresses the problems raised by the critics and attempts to demonstrate that their responses were largely misguided, as most of them failed to recognize the full complexity of what they were dealing with. Thus the paper first shows that Kelly’s play is not merely a response to King Lear but, rather, a bricolage that recycles Akira Kurosawa’s Ran and Sarah Kane’s Blasted as well as a number of other works. The article then suggests that The Gods Weep is not an adaptation but an appropriation, as it shifts the political thrust of the hypotext and bears a mark of Kelly’s in-yer-face sensibility. Finally, the contribution argues that, given the range of sources that are being recycled, the play should not be viewed as an appropriation of a single text. Building on the concept of the “work” as formulated in Margaret Jane Kidnie’s Shakespeare and the Problem of Adaptation, I suggest that The Gods Weep should be viewed in the context of all texts which may be subsumed under what I call the “Lear type.”

Since the Second Vatican Council, the question of dialogue between Christianity and Islam has taken a special development. The Church tried to get to know Islam in various ways. One of the questions arising from the output of the dialogue is as follows – are we talking about the same God or another? The article considers this issue. First, it is discussed the meaning of God’s name in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament. Then the topic of meaning of God’s name in Islam was taken up. It is complemented by the Christian message about Jesus Christ. It is in him that God makes his name definitively complete. Therefore, it should be emphasized that the interpretation of God’s nam eis different in Christianity and Islam.

The author aims at presenting mercy in the letters of St. Paul in the aspect of the enriching relation of God towards man. He analyses the most representative texts, containing the semantic base: ἔλεος–ἐλεέω and οἰκτιρμός–οἰκτίρω. He takes the personal experience of God’s mercy in the apostle’s life as the starting point. Then, he attempts to deduce how it has influenced the development of the doctrine of mercy and how it has reflected in the practice of the Christian life. Finally, he enquires about the maturity of the Pauline doctrine of God’s mercy.
Autor stawia sobie za cel prezentację miłosierdzia w listach św. Pawła w aspekcie ubogacającej relacji Boga do człowieka. Poddaje analizie najbardziej reprezentatywne teksty, które zawierają bazę semantyczną: ἔλεος–ἐλεέω i οἰκτιρμός–οἰκτίρω. Punktem wyjścia czyni osobiste doświadczenie miłosierdzia Bożego w życiu apostoła. Następnie podejmuje próbę wnioskowania jak ono wpłynęło na rozwój nauki o miłosierdziu i jakie znalazło przełożenie na praktykę życia chrześcijańskiego. W końcu zadaje pytanie o dojrzałość Pawłowej nauki o Bożym miłosierdziu.

Cieľom príspevku je predstaviť jednotu Božích atribútov v harmónii. Spravodlivosť patrí k Božím vyrovnaným vlastnostiam v absolútnej jednote s Božou milujúcou dobrotou. Táto skutočnosť nevylučuje, že niekedy Boh musí potrestať svoje stvorenie, ak ho človek nechce nasledovať podľa poznania Božej lásky v praktickom živote. Človek potrebuje zažiť, že je milovaný a odpovedať Bohu slobodne v poslušnosti.
The goal of this contribution is to demonstrate the harmonious unity in God’s attributes. This includes justice which acts in absolute unity with God’s loving goodness. It is thus sometimes necessary for God to punish his creatures if their actions do not correspond to their knowledge of God’s love. Man has to experience being loved by God and respond by choosing freely to obey him.

Analyzing the content of both Books of Maccabees, one can notice that their authors firmly emphasized the question of supernatural help which God had been giving to the Jewish people, who were under the rule of the Seleucid Em-pire. It is particularly visible in the struggle undertaken in defense of the Law, the homeland, the temple and native customs. Although battles were often fought against enemies of considerable military advantage, the troops of fight-ing Jews were in the end – with God’s help – victorious. Moreover, the miracu-lous intervention of God was described by the author of 2Ma by means of su-pernatural revelations of mysterious characters in which God Himself revealed his own power as well as defended his people. Therefore, the Jews – being the witness of these events and keeping God’s interventions in the history of their own nation in mind – had no doubt that God Himself – showing his power – was fighting against their enemies. This conviction is clearly expressed in the following worlds of 1Ma 12:15: “(…) we have the support of Heaven to help us, thanks to which we have been delivered from our enemies, and they are the ones who have been brought low.” On the basis of the text of both books it can be seen that God’s help was usually a response to prayers full of faith, as it is stated in 2Ma 1:8: “we prayed to the Lord, and our prayer was heard.” The effi-cacy of the prayer and – consequently – the support given by God were essen-tially dependent upon the fidelity to the Law of those who prayed and fought.
