Opis:

Manganese (Mn) is an essential chemical element for the human body, but it can be neurotoxic if the homeostatic range is exceeded. In this article, we review and summarize research on environmental exposure to manganese contained in drinking water and and the relationship of excess manganese to disorders of the nervous system in children. We identified and analyzed 17 original articles published in 1983-2017. The most common bioindicator of exposure to Mn was manganese content in the hair, but some studies measured manganese in blood and urine. One study concerned the content of this element in dentin, one in umbilical cord blood. The WISC, IQ, CALVT scales were the most commonly used to assess cognitive functions. Most studies indicate that higher Mn exposure is associated with worse cognitive functions, motor and hyperactive behavior. Despite some potential limitations in peer-reviewed studies, the negative impact of exposure to manganese on the developing brain is well demonstrated and preventive strategies should be promoted.

For functions of the form \[f(z) = z^{p} + \sum_{n = 1}^{\infty} a_{p + n} z^{p + n}\] we obtain sharp bounds for some coefficients functionals in certain subclasses of starlike functions. Certain applications of our main results are also given. In particular, Fekete-Szego-like inequality for classes of functions defined through extended fractional differintegrals are obtained.

Opis:

Weightlessness is an extreme environment that can cause a series of adaptive changes in the human body. Findings from real and simulated weightlessness indicate altered cardiovascular functions, such as reduction in left ventricular (LV) mass, cardiac arrhythmia, reduced vascular tone and so on. These alterations induced by weightlessness are detrimental to the health, safety and working performance of the astronauts, therefore it is important to study the effects of weightlessness on the cardiovascular functions of humans. The cardiovascular functional alterations caused by weightlessness (including long-term spaceflight and simulated weightlessness) are briefly reviewed in terms of the cardiac and peripheral vascular functions. The alterations include: changes of shape and mass of the heart; cardiac function alterations; the cardiac arrhythmia; lower body vascular regulation and upper body vascular regulation. A series of conclusions are reported, some of which are analyzed, and a few potential directions are presented.

Let \(A\) be the class of analytic functions in the unit disc \(U\) of the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\) with the normalization \(f(0)=f^{^{\prime }}(0)-1=0\). We introduce a subclass \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\) of \(A\), which unifies the classes of bounded starlike and convex functions of complex order. Making use of Salagean operator, a more general class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(n,\alpha ,b)\) (\(n\geq 0\)) related to \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\) is also considered under the same conditions. Among other things, we find convolution conditions for a function \(f\in A\) to belong to the class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\). Several properties of the class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(n,\alpha ,b)\) are investigated.

The article presents relations between language development and cognitive functions in children with FASD. The authors characterise particular cognitive functions connected with perception, processing and storage of information as well as control and self-regulation of behaviour. They write about linguistic knowledge as closely coexisting with other cognitive functions. The authors also emphasise two things. First, the fact that the quality of cognitive, social and emotional functioning of a child depends equally on the harmonious development of perception, motor, language, mental and social skills, and second: the knowledge of the specificity of cognitive development, which is reflected in the language development, can be helpful in making a diagnosis and preparing a therapeutic program for children with FASD.

The so-called minimax theorem means that if X and Y are two sets, and f and g are two real-valued functions defined on X×Y, then under some conditions the following inequality holds:
$inf_{y∈Y} sup_{x∈X} f(x,y) ≤ sup_{x∈X} inf_{y∈Y} g(x,y)$.
We will extend the two functions version of minimax theorems without the usual condition: f ≤ g. We replace it by a milder condition:
$sup_{x∈X} f(x,y) ≤sup_{x∈X}g(x,y)$, ∀y ∈ Y.
However, we require some restrictions; such as, the functions f and g are jointly upward, and their upper sets are connected. On the other hand, by using some properties of multifunctions, we define X-quasiconcave sets, so that we can extend the two functions minimax theorem to the graph of the multifunction. In fact, we get the inequality:
$inf_{y∈T(X)} sup_{x∈T^{-1}(y)} f(x,y) ≤ sup_{x∈X} inf_{y∈T(x)} g(x,y)$,
where T is a multifunction from X to Y.

In this paper, we obtain new sufficient conditions for the operators \(F_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) and \(G_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) to be univalent in the open unit disc \(\mathcal{U}\), where the functions \(f_1, f_2,..., f_n\) belong to the classes \(S^*(a, b)\) and \(\mathcal{K}(a, b)\). The order of convexity for the operators \(F_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) and \(G_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) is also determined. Furthermore, and for \(\beta= 1\), we obtain sufficient conditions for the operators \(F_n(z)\) and \(G_n(z)\) to be in the class \(\mathcal{K}(a, b)\). Several corollaries and consequences of the main results are also considered.

Monotonicity of functions were of great interest of many mathematicians. Starting from the well known theorem of monotonicity of a differentiable function one can get quite sophisticated results. We give a survey of results when thesis of them is continuous and monotone function. Someone can ask why it should be continuous. Even a differentiable functions but not at the only point of its domain with positive derivative need not be non-decreasing. That is why we want to look for theorems for continuous functions.

The purpose of the article is to identify the specialized (exogenous) functions of Polish capital – Warsaw – and to analyze this town functional structure in the period 2004- -2014. The discussed period is characterized by the development of country economy, which coincided with the Polish accession to the European Union structures. The conducted research covered the size, structure and changes of employment. The research was conducted at the background of economic base theory with regard to a city using two measures – surplus employee index (SEI) and Florence’s index of specialization (FIS). The research can turn out useful in urban development planning and in city management.

We consider the Nemytskii operator, i.e., the operator of substitution, defined by (Nφ)(x) := G(x,φ(x)), where G is a given multifunction. It is shown that if N maps a Hölder space Hα into Hβ and N fulfils the Lipschitz condition then G(x,y) = A(x,y) + B(x), where A(x,·) is linear and A(·,y), B ∈ Hβ. Moreover, some conditions are given under which the Nemytskii operator generated by (1) maps Hα into Hβ and is Lipschitzian.

In this paper we describe a family of highly parameterized hash functions. This parameterization results in great flexibility between performance and security of the algorithm. The three basic functions, HaF-256, HaF-512 and HaF-1024 constitute this hash function family. Lengths of message digests are 256, 512 and 1024 bits respectively. The paper discusses the details of functions structure. The method used to generate function S-box is also described in detail.

The study investigates the relation between developmental dyslexia, IQ and complex motor skills involving some cognitive and executive functions. The mechanisms underlying the co-existence of disabilities related to reading and writing on the one hand and motor skills on the other hand, still need to be clarified. In the current study it was hypothesised that the level of intelligence may contribute to complex motor skills in dyslexia. The study involved 58 students with developmental dyslexia (age 9.08 yrs; SD = .06) and 50 students constituting a control group (age 9.09 yrs; SD = .06). The measurements were performed using WISC-R, two subtests from the Dyslexia 3 Test, and four complex motor tasks. Children with dyslexia present problems in complex motor tasks, which involved learning of movement sequences and mental rotation. This finding may support the cerebellar deficit hypothesis in dyslexia.  Complex motor skills are significantly related to children’s intelligence level or to the interaction of intelligence and dyslexia. Child’s intelligence explains from 7.5% to 35% of the variance in complex motor skills.

Opis:

In this paper we present the concept of bounded second variation of a real valued function defined on a rectangle in \(\mathbb{R}^2\). We use Hardy-Vitali type technics in the plane in order to extend the classical notion of function of bounded second variation on intervals of \(\mathbb{R}\). We introduce the class \(BV^2(I_a^b )\), of all functions of bounded second variation on a rectangle \(I_a^b \subset \mathbb{R}^2\), and show that this class can be equipped with a norm with respect to which it is a Banach space. Finally, we present two results that show that integrals of functions of first bounded variation (on \(I_a^b\)) are in \(BV^2 (I_a^b)\).

Funkcje języka to zapewnienie komunikacji (mowa) i podstawa (źródło) wiedzy i myśli (gnostyczna). Przez funkcje mowy rozumiany jest stosunek wypowiedzi do elementów sytuacji komunikacyjnej. Wyróżnia się koordynacyjne (reprezentatywna, nakłaniająca, emotywna) i niekoordynacyjne (fatyczna, estetyczna, magiczna) funkcje mowy. Przedstawiony model może być wykorzystywany w procesie nauczania w dyscyplinach, których przedmiotem jest wykorzystanie języka: stylistyka, retoryka, kultura języka.
Language functions are considered as means 1) to provide communication (speech) and 2) to be a basis for knowledge and thoughts (gnostic function). Speech functions are understood as attitudes of an utterance to components of a communicative situation. Speech functions are divided into coordinative ones, when an utterance coordinates an interlocutor’s behavior (representative, appealing and emotive functions) and non-coordinative functions, when an utterance does not coordinate an interlocutor’s behavior (phatic, aesthetic, magic functions). The model can be applied in teaching stylistics, rhetoric and speech culture.

Let a and b be fixed real numbers such that 0 < min{a,b} < 1 < a + b. We prove that every function f:(0,∞) → ℝ satisfying f(as + bt) ≤ af(s) + bf(t), s,t > 0, and such that $limsup_{t → 0+} f(t) ≤ 0$ must be of the form f(t) = f(1)t, t > 0. This improves an earlier result in [5] where, in particular, f is assumed to be nonnegative. Some generalizations for functions defined on cones in linear spaces are given. We apply these results to give a new characterization of the $L^p$-norm.

In this article we analyse various methods of value approximation for Prolate Spheroidal Wave Functions (PSWF). As PSWFs are not given by explicit formula, for any application their values need to be calculated based on their properties and connection to other functions. We will focus on three approaches – Legendre polynomials, Eigenvalues of Matrix Operators and Hermite functions. We then create an implementation and test its effectiveness by using is as a base for bandlimited signal approximation algorithm.
W artykule analizujemy różnorakie metody przybliżania wartości czołowych funkcji kulistych (Prolate Spheroidal Wave Functions - PSWF). Jako że funkcje te nie są zadane poprzez bezpośredni wzór, konieczne do zastosowań obliczenie ich wartości w zadanych punktach nie jest sprawą trywialną. Obecnie czyni się to w oparciu o ich związki z innymi funkcjami, łatwiej obliczalnymi. W artykule koncentrujemy się nad trzema podejściami - poprzez naturalny związek czołowych funkcji kulistych z wielomianami Legendre'a, przez funkcje Hermite'a oraz jako wartości własne operatorów macierzowych. Następnie wskazujemy implementację przykładowego algorytmu obliczania wartości PSWF i pokazujemy jego działanie na przykładzie przybliżeń sygnałów o ograniczonym paśmie.

In the present work, we introduce the subclass \(\mathcal{T}_{\gamma ,\alpha}^{k}(\varphi )\), of starlike functions with respect to \(k\)-symmetric points of complex order \(\gamma\) (\(\gamma \neq 0\)) in the open unit disc \(\vartriangle\). Some interesting subordination criteria, inclusion relations and the integral representation for functions belonging to this class are provided. The results obtained generalize some known results, and some other new results are obtained.

From the text: "In the many papers in which the concept of measurability of a multivariate function arises, the authors usually formulate one definition of measurability and ignore its connections with other definitions. Assuming that the space, in which the values of the multivariate function lie, which admits only a closed set, is metric and compact we prove that all well-known definitions of measurability of multivariate functions are equivalent. "A. F. Filippov's lemma was first formulated in 1959 [Vestnik Moskov. Univ. Ser. Mat. Meh. Astr. Fiz. Him. 1959, no. 2, 25–32; MR0122650] and was later generalized by many others, in particular by W. Furakawa [Ann. Math. Statist. 43 (1972), 1612–1622; MR0371418], C. J. Himmelberg [Fund. Math. 87 (1975), 53–72; MR0367142] and C. Olech [Bull. Acad. Polon Sci. Sér. Sci. Math. Astronom. Phys. 13 (1965), 317–321; MR0199338]. Using various definitions of measurability of a multivariate function (whose equivalence we prove beforehand) we introduce two theorems on the existence of a measurable implicit function. These theorems generalize Furakawa's theorem [op. cit.] which is a reformulation of Olech's theorem [op. cit.] for Borel measurability.''

A wide range of applications is based nowadays on analytical developments which allow a precise and effective approach and short time of computations compared with the time required for numerical methods; in this way these developments are suitable for calculations in real time. This work proposes an approach for solving a two-dimensional harmonic problem of a rectangular plate under local surface loading using Vlasov’s symbolic method of initial functions and a general solution of the harmonic equation for a rectangle. Substituting the harmonic functions in symbolic form for the corresponding solutions allows us to give the exact solution of the problem in trigonometric form.

Elections are a procedure typical for democratic systems, but also systems which do not respect the principles of democracy often employ them. However, due to their different functional positioning, they fulfill various functions. The presented text is an attempt to present the most important functions performed by the elections in democratic systems. The adopted model of generalization has allowed for separation of seven basic functions, present in all elections: delegation of political representation; selection of the political elite; legitimisation of those in power; control over authorities; political accountability; creation of political programmes; recreation of public opinion image. The presented typology allows for its use both in different types of elections (parliamentary, presidential, local, regional and European Parliament) as well as in relation to different electoral systems. The general nature of the described types of functions allows the separation of specific categories within its framework, but the objective of the present study has determined that the focus remains on the description and analysis of the presented types.

Recently, A. W. Goodman introduced the class UCV of normalized uniformly convex functions. We present some sharp coefficient bounds for functions f(z) = z + a₂z² + a₃z³ + ... ∈ UCV and their inverses $f^{-1}(w) = w + d₂w² + d₃w³ + ...$. The series expansion for $f^{-1}(w)$ converges when $|w| < ϱ_f$, where $0 < ϱ_f$ depends on f. The sharp bounds on $|a_n|$ and all extremal functions were known for n = 2 and 3; the extremal functions consist of a certain function k ∈ UCV and its rotations. We obtain the sharp bounds on $|a_n|$ and all extremal functions for n = 4, 5, and 6. The same function k and its rotations remain the only extremals. It is known that k and its rotations cannot provide the sharp bound on $|a_n|$ for n sufficiently large. We also find the sharp estimate on the functional |μa²₂ - a₃| for -∞ < μ < ∞. We give sharp bounds on $|d_n|$ for n = 2, 3 and 4. For $n = 2, k^{-1}$ and its rotations are the only extremals. There are different extremal functions for both n = 3 and n = 4. Finally, we show that k and its rotations provide the sharp upper bound on |f''(z)| over the class UCV.

The article presents several examples of different mathematical structures and interprets their properties related to the existence of universal functions. In this context, relations between the problem of totality of elements and possible forms of universal functions are analyzed. Measures of divergence between two points play a key role in many engineering problems. One such measure is a distance function, but there are many important measures which do not satisfy the properties of the distance. The Bregman divergence, Kullback-Leibler divergence and f-divergence are such measures. In the present article, we study the differential-geometrical structure of a manifold induced by a divergence function. It consists of a Riemannian metric, and a pair of dually coupled affine connections, which are studied in information geometry. The class of Bregman divergences are characterized by a dually flat structure, which is originated from the Legendre duality. A dually flat space admits a generalized Pythagorean theorem. The class of f-divergences, defined on a manifold of probability distributions, is characterized by information monotonicity, and the Kullback-Leibler divergence belongs to the intersection of both classes. The f-divergence always gives the -geometry, which consists of the Fisher information metric and a dual pair of š-connections. The -divergence is a special class of f-divergences. This is unique, sitting at the intersection of the f-divergence and Bregman divergence classes in a manifold of positive measures. The geometry derived from the Tsallis q-entropy and related divergences are also addressed.

Opis:

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) plays a role as a patient-centered meaningful endpoint, assessing the direct clinical benefit for a patient. The inclusion of HRQoL measurements in a glioma patient may provide important data to inform clinicians on treatment decision-making. The aim of the study was to evaluate cognitive decline and HRQoL in the clinical care of a patient following neurosurgery on of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). A 69-year-old female developed malignant brain glioma in the right temporal-occipital area; this being confirmed by CT and MR study and neuropathological findings. She had complained of headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting as well as attention and memory loss, and anxiety, sadness and a slowing down in the performance of daily activities. The symptoms rapidly became worse and she was referred to a neurosurgery department for consultation. She was successfully neurosurgically operated on. She was examined with the use of ne uro psycho logical tests three times: the first examination was conducted before the neurosurgical operation, the second two weeks after, and the third half year after the neurosurgical operation. In the first examination by the standard Polish version of the Mindstreams™ Interactive Computer Tests disturbances for all the tested cognitive functions occurred. The greatest changes were to occur however in the areas of visual-spatial functions. attention, executive functions and memory. In the second test, a return to the norm was achieved for the disturbed cognitive and executive functions. In the third examination (half a year after the neurosurgical operation), the cognitive and executive functions were still not bad, but had slightly decreased. Similar trend was observed in HRQoL. A significant difference in the health profile between the 1 st and 2 nd as well as between 1 st and 3 rd examination was detected for the eight SF-36 domains - HRQoL was improved. While only slight but no significant changes occurred between 2 nd and 3 rd examination. HRQoL was still not bad, but had slightly decreased. The patient after the neurosurgical operation of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is capable of carrying out daily activities, but shows some level of reduced complains for functional capacity, pain, general health and vitality, emotional and social functioning for mental health which has led to the impaired HRQoL.

Two-parameters extension of the family of typically-real functions is studied. The definition is obtained by the Stjeltjes integral formula. The kernel function in this definition serves as a generating function for some family of orthogonal polynomials generalizing Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The results of this paper concern the exact region of local univalence, bounds for the radius of univalence, the coefficient problems within the considered family as well as the basic properties of obtained orthogonal polynomials.

Zinc is a metallic element, of symbol Zn and atomic number 30, that is placed in the group 12 of the periodic table. As an essential trace element, zinc is required to support human biochemical processes. It is found in nearly 200 specific enzymes in the living organisms, and it also serves as structural cofactor for many cellular proteins. [1] Zinc may exert pleiotropic effects in organism; for that, deficits of cellular zinc content can have catastrophic consequences and are linked to major pathophysiology, such as diabetes, stroke and malformations of brain function [2]. The complexity and importance of zinc homeostasis is reflected by the large variety and number of zinc-related proteins found in almost every cell compartment; for example, this biometal is transported through ZnT (Zn2+ transporter) family and ZIP family, proteins that are completely dedicated to zinc transport [2]. It is also noticeable, that between three and ten percent of all protein products of genes in mammalian genomes bind zinc, which is essential for their folding, activity or conformational change [2].

This article presents methods and algorithms for the computation of isogenies of degree ℓⁿ. Some of these methods are obtained using recurrence equations and generating functions. A standard multiplication based algorithm for computation of isogeny of degree ℓⁿ has time complexity equal to O(n²M (n log n)), where M (N) denotes the cost of integers of size N multiplication. The memory complexity of this algorithm is equal to O (n log (n log (n))). In this article are presented algorithms for: - determination of optimal strategy for computation of degree ℓⁿ isogeny, - determination of cost of optimal strategy of computation of ℓⁿ isogeny using solutions of recurrence equations, - determination of cost of optimal strategy of computation of ℓⁿ isogeny using recurrence equations, where optimality in this context means that, for the given parameters, no other strategy exists that requires fewer operations for computation of isogeny. Also this article presents a method using generating functions for obtaining the solutions of sequences (սₘ) and (cₘ) where cₘ denotes the cost of computations of isogeny of degree ℓᵘᵐum for given costs p, q of ℓ-isogeny computation and ℓ-isogeny evaluation. These solutions are also used in the construction of the algorithms presented in this article.

For α ≥ 0 let $ℱ_α$ denote the class of functions defined for |z| < 1 by integrating $1/(1-xz)^α$ if α > 0, and log(1/(1-xz)) if α = 0, against a complex measure on |x| = 1. We study families of starlike functions where zf'(z)/f(z) ranges over a parabola with given focus and vertex. We prove a number of properties of these functions, among others that they are bounded and that they belong to $ℱ_0$. In general, it is only known that bounded starlike functions belong to $ℱ_α$ for α > 0.

Opis:

The paper deals with the presence of verbonominal analytical constructions on Polish TV at the beginning of the 21st century. It is a continuation of the research on such constructions carried out in the 70ies of the 20th century and at the turn of the century. The author deals with verbal analytical constructions on Polish TV. To create a contrast, she gives examples of collocation in poetry. The author proves that analitisms are used on TV in the following functions: 1) retarding (slowing down speech pace), 2) imitating (use of cliches), 3) demonstrative (image creation), 4) metalinguistic (conscious selection of collocations instead of verbs) and for 5) stylisation and 6) euphemisation of speech. The conducted research proved that analitisms are used both by TV programme hosts and their invited speakers. It also occurred that the frequency of analitisms on TV is another specific function of the TV language. Earlier, it was proved that TV language is predominantly colloquial.

Executive functions in older adults of various level of educational needs In old age the decrease of cognitive performance connected with natural ageing processes is observed. The deterioration primarily affects memory and attention functions (Jagodzińska, 2008; Oberauer, 2006). It was indicated that the level of cognitive competences is strongly connected with learning (Brooks, Weaver, Scialfa, 2006). People in old age who are more intellectually active have less problems in cognitive functioning (Jagodzińska, 2008). The article presents results of studies conducted to verify hypothesis concerning the relation between the level of educational needs and efficiency of their executive functions. 25 people, aged 71-88, participated in the study. Educational needs and four aspects of executive functions: plasticity, inhibition, working memory and planning were measured. Results confirms the relationship between educational needs of seniors and two aspects of executive functions: plasticity and working memory, while the most significant relations concerns plasticity.

Opis:

We deal with the functional equation (so called addition formula) of the form f(x + y) = F(f(x),f(y)), where F is an associative rational function. The class of associative rational functions was described by A. Chéritat [1] and his work was followed by a paper of the author. For function F defined by F(x,y) = ϕ−1(ϕ(x) + ϕ(y)), where ϕ is a homographic function, the addition formula is fulfilled by homographic type functions. We consider the class of the associative rational functions defined by formula F(u,v) =uv αuv + u + v, where α is a fixed real numer.

Let X be a finite dimensional real Banach space. We show that if the contingent of the curve Γ : (a, b) → X fulfils some conditions then each parametrization of that curve is V BG _* . Stanisław Saks proved that each V BG _* function is differentiable at a set of full Lebesgue measure. The result of this paper is a partial converse of that theorem.

Let D be a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain of $ℂ^n$ with smooth boundary. We consider the weighted mixed-norm spaces $A_{δ,k}^{p,q}(D)$ of holomorphic functions with norm $∥f∥_{p,q,δ,k} = (sum_{|α|≤k} \int_{0}^{r_0} (\int_{∂D_{r}} |D^{α} f|^p dσ_{r})^{q//p} r^{δq//p-1} dr)^{1//q}$. We prove that these spaces can be obtained by real interpolation between Bergman-Sobolev spaces $A_{δ,k}^{p}(D)$ and we give results about real and complex interpolation between them. We apply these results to prove that $A_{δ,k}^{p,q}(D)$ is the intersection of a Besov space $B_{s}^{p,q}(D)$ with the space of holomorphic functions on D. Further, we obtain several properties of the mixed-norm spaces.

The paper presents a new method to obtain an approximate solution to plate vibrations problems. The problem is described by a partial differential equation of fourth order. The key idea of the presented approach is to find polynomials (solving functions) that satisfy the considered differential equation identically. In this sense, it is a variant of the Trefftz method. The method is addressed to differential equations in a finite domain. The approach proposed here has some advantages. The first is that the approximate solution (a linear combination of the solving functions) satisfies the equation identically. Secondly, the method is flexible in terms of given boundary and initial conditions (discrete, missing). Thirdly, the solving functions can be used as base functions for several variants of the Finite Element Method. In this case, the approximation is good even for relatively large elements. It means that the approach is suitable for inverse problems. The formulas for solving functions and their derivatives for the plate vibration equation are obtained. The convergence of the method is proved and numerical examples are included.
Artykuł przedstawia nową metodę rozwiązywania problemów drgań płyty, które opisywane są cząstkowym równaniem różniczkowym czwartego rzędu. Idea metody polega na uzyskaniu wielomianów spełniających w sposób ścisły dane równanie różniczkowe (funkcje Trefftza). Za rozwiązanie przyjmuje się kombinację liniową tych funkcji. Współczynniki kombinacji liniowej dobierane są w taki sposób, aby zminimalizować błąd dopasowania rozwiązania do warunków początkowo - brzegowych. Podejście proponowane w pracy ma kilka zalet. Po pierwsze liniowa kombinacja funkcji Trefftza spełnia w sposób ścisły dane równanie różniczkowe. Po drugie metoda jest elastyczna odnośnie warunków początkowo - brzegowych. Mogą one być ciągłe lub dyskretne. Dodatkowo warunki te mogą być niekompletne, co czyni metodę użyteczną w rozwiązywaniu zagadnień odwrotnych. Trzecią zaletą metody jest możliwość zastosowania uzyskanych wielomianów jako funkcji bazowych w różnych wariantach Metody Elementów Skończonych. W pracy uzyskano wzory rekurencyjne na funkcje Trefftza oraz ich pochodne dla równania drgań płyty. Zbadano zbieżność metody oraz zamieszczono przykłady numeryczne.

We present a new approach to determining supports of extreme, normed by 1, positive definite class functions of discrete groups, i.e. characters in the sense of E. Thoma [8]. Any character of a group produces a unitary representation and thus a von Neumann algebra of linear operators with finite normal trace. We use a theorem of H. Umegaki [9] on the uniqueness of conditional expectation in finite von Neumann algebras. Some applications and examples are given.

In this work we provide a list of irreducible monic, totally positive polynomials with integer coefficients and lengths below 2.3679d for a degree d polynomial. Our approach combines techniques based on auxiliary functions and mixed-integer linear programming algorithms. The list obtained shows that there are polynomials of this type up to degree 16, with the exception of degree 11 where we are very close to the threshold.

Corruption has become a major global problem. Proponents of the “good corruption” thesis believe that in certain conditions corruption can be conducive to economic and political development. To them, corruption is “grease” that lubricates the rigid wheels of the bureaucratic machine, and is a legitimate mechanizm of political inclusion of the excluded masses. Yet, empirical analysis of the positive functions of corruption in the Soviet Union, the United States of America and certain Asian countries revealed that corruption is first and foremost a symptom of political and economic system dysfunction. One can speak of the positive functions of corruption only in the context of the system’s serious malfunction concerning the fulfillment of the society’s expectations coupled with the lack of prospects for this system’s reform.

On the one hand, adoptive family is an alternative for married couples who are not able to have progeny, on the other hand, it is an alternative for social orphans to have proper family. So as well as fulfilling a lot of functions of biological families, adoptive families also compensate for social orphanhood. Only a healthy family can face such a responsible task. According to modern psychology, pedagogics and sociology, family is a small social group, a community which follows certain rules. A healthy family is a functional family, which makes every one of its members happy and gives them possibility to fulfill their needs. There are all sorts of difficulties, failures and arguments in such a family, however, mutual relationships and the potential of its particular members motivates to look for satisfying solutions for every one of them. So, what should characterize a healthy adoptive family, what inner-family factors and outer conditions might disturb its functioning. These questions need to be tried and answered already in the diagnosing and preparation period for the adoptive parents candidates. It is also important to prepare a child (depending on age), because both the child and its future parents bring to the newly created adoptive family their genetic heritage, health condition, previous experiences and life plans, hopes, value, skills, mutual relations, ways to communicate and deal with difficulties and so on. Final court decision on adoption should not be the end, but the beginning of post-adoptive work with the new family, in order to strengthen its proper and healthy functioning.

Opis:

Szadek, one of the oldest towns in the Łódź region, grew on the crossing of mediaeval routes connecting such cities as Piotrków, Uniejów, Łęczyca and Sieradz. Such location, strategic in terms of communication links, was favourable to Szadek’s development and contributed to the strengthening of its role as an urban settlement performing central functions for the surrounding areas, particularly with regard to administration of territorial (the seat of local government of various levels), judicial and ecclesiastical affairs. There is evidence suggesting that as far back as the 12th century Szadek was functioning as a local administrative and economic centre. In the following centuries it became a major settlement unit providing diverse important functions to the whole district. Today Szadek is a small town which retained only a few of these functions, but nevertheless they reflect its former status on the map of the region. The broad range of services provided by Szadek indicates that it was perceived as a special place in the settlement network.
