Opis:
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the fatigue resistance of austenitic nodular cast iron and to compare it with other types of nodular cast irons. The austenitic nodular cast iron, used for the experiments, was alloyed by 13% nickel and 7% manganese (EN-GJSA-XNiMn13-7) to obtain an austenitic matrix. The microstructure was studied using light metallographic microscopy. Mechanical properties were investigated by tensile test, impact bending test and Brinell hardness test. Fatigue tests were carried out at sinusoidal cyclic push-pull loading at ambient temperature. The results of fatigue tests were compared with the fatigue properties of ferrite-pearlitic nodular cast iron and pearlite-ferritic nodular cast iron. Experimental results show that NiMn-type of austenitic nodular cast iron has lower tensile strength and hardness, but higher elongation and absorbed energy than the compared types of nodular cast iron. However, austenitic nodular cast iron has lower fatigue limit.

This paper deals with the influence of initial crack-tip shape, plastic compressibility and material or strain softening on near-tip stress-strain fields for mode I crack when subjected to fatigue loading with an overload event under plane strain and small scale yielding conditions. A finite strain elastic-viscoplastic constitutive equation with a hardening-softening- -hardening hardness function is taken up for simulation. For comparison, a bilinear hardening hardness function is also considered. It has been observed that the near-tip crack opening stress yy, crack growth stress xx, and hydrostatic stresses are noticeably controlled by the initial crack tip shape, plastic compressibility, material softening as well as the overload event. The distribution pattern of different stresses for a plastically compressible hardening- -softening-hardening solid appears to be very unusual and advantageous as compared to those of traditional materials. Therefore, the present numerical results may guide material scientists/engineers to understand the near-tip stress-strain fields and growth of a crack in a better way for plastically compressible solids, and thus may help to develop new materials with improved properties.

This study focused on the fatigue and corrosion fatigue of maraging steel 18Ni (250). The 18Ni (250) samples were tested for axial fatigue in air and 3.5% NaCl solution. The effects of loading frequency and stress ratio on the fatigue strength of 18Ni (250) were studied. In air, the loading frequency was 10 Hz, and the stress ratio was 0.5. However, three loading methods were used in the 3.5% NaCl solution: (i) the loading frequency of 1 Hz and stress ratio of 0.5; (ii) the loading frequency of 1 Hz and stress ratio 0.1, and (iii) the loading frequency 5 Hz and stress ratio 0.5. The corrosion fatigue strength of samples in the 3.5% NaCl solution was 63.3% lower than that of the samples in air. The fractures in the samples were observed after the test.

Opis:
One of the major problems in the development of algorithms for monitoring the life of aircraft gas turbine engines is that the character of loading in real flight cycles is crucially different from the character of the static and dynamic loading during the testing of samples. This paper proposes a method for taking into account the effect of retentions at maximum stresses and cycle temperatures on the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) of the heat-resistant alloys used in engine parts. Regularities in repeated-static loading (RSL) are used in combination with the method of linear accumulation of damage due to the LCF and RSL, with retentions of a variable length. A non-linear equation is derived for the summation of these damages, the solution of which determines the durability (life) of the part while taking into account the retention duration. The theoretical results were verified by using the experimental characteristics of the GS-6K and EI-437B nickel-based alloys, previously reported by other researchers.
Jednym z głównych problemów w opracowywaniu algorytmów do monitorowania trwałości lotniczych gazowych silników turbinowych jest to, że charakter obciążeń powstałych w rzeczywistych cyklach lotu różni się zasadniczo od charakteru obciążeń statycznych i dynamicznych obecnych podczas testowania próbek. W niniejszej pracy zaproponowano metodę pozwalającą uwzględnić wpływ retencji przy maksymalnych naprężeniach oraz temperatur cyklicznych na zmęczenie niskocyklowe (LCF) stopów żaroodpornych używanych w elementach silnika. Wykorzystano regularności w powtarzalnym obciążeniu statycznym (RSL) w połączeniu z metodą linearnej akumulacji uszkodzeń wynikających ze zmęczenia niskocyklowego i powtarzalnego obciążenia statycznego, z retencjami o zmiennej długości. Dla sumowania tych uszkodzeń wyprowadzono nieliniowe równanie, którego rozwiązanie określa trwałość (żywotność) elementu z uwzględnieniem czasu trwania retencji. Wyniki teoretyczne zostały zweryfikowane na podstawie charakterystyk doświadczalnych stopów na bazie niklu GS-6K i EI-437B, zaczerpniętych z wcześniejszych prac innych zespołów badawczych.

The method for assessing the lifetime of structural elements by the criterion of fatigue strength is improved. It includes tests of laboratory material samples, the positions of the statistical theory of similarity of fatigue failure, calculation of the stress state by the finite elements method and takes into account the nature of cyclic loading with variable amplitude. A way for calculating the equivalence coefficient by the cycles μm is proposed, which takes into account the characteristics of fatigue strength and the cyclogram of the loading of the machine elements. Mathematical descriptions of integral distribution functions for typical loading modes (heavy, medium equiprobable, medium normal, light and especially light) are given and on their basis the corresponding loading cyclograms are obtained. The technique is implemented on the example of one of the main parts of an axial piston hydraulic machine (APHM) - a cylinder block (CB) made of tin bronze CuSn12. The possibilities of increasing the working pressure in the APHM by constructive and technological methods are analyzed. It is shown that in the manufacture of CВ from high-strength antifriction brass Zn28Mn3Co2, it is possible to increase the operating pressure in the APHM to 40 MPa, which for heavy duty operation will provide a CВ lifetime more than nine thousand hours.

The article will be focused on analysis of properties of aluminum alloy for the casting of type Al-Mg. As an experimental material was used aluminum alloy EN AC 51200, supplied in a cast state without a heat treatment. It was produced by the continuous casting method. Experiments deal with microstructural material analysis, fractographic analysis, mechanical and fatigue tests. The microstructure of the testing sample was examined using an optical microscope Neophot 32. Fatigue properties of aluminum alloy was tested by three-point bending cyclic loading. The fracture surface of the testing sample was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), where sample was observed on various stages of the fatigue process, its characteristics and differences of fracture surfaces.

Cyclic loading of superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) causes forward and reverse austenite–martensіte transfor-mations, and also increases the volume of stabilized martensite. This appears in the change of stress-strain curve form, the decrease of dissipation energy, and increase of residual strain, that is, named transformation ratcheting. In real structures, the SMA components in most cases are under the action of variable amplitude loading. Therefore, it is obvious that the loading history will influence the functional fatigue. In the present work, the effect of stress ratio on the functional properties of superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy under variable amplitude loading sequence with two blocks was investigated. The studies were carried out under the uniaxial tension of cy-lindrical specimens under load-full unload and load-part unload. The change of residual strain, strain range, dissipation, and cumulative dissipation energy density of NiTi alloy related to load sequences are discussed. Under both stress ratios, the residual strain in NiTi alloy is increased depending on the number of loading cycles on the high loading block that is similar to the tests at constant stress or strain amplitude. An unusual effect of NiTi alloy residual strain reduction with the number cycles is found at a lower block loading. There was revealed the effect of residual strain reduction of NiTi alloy on the number of loading cycles on the lower amplitude block. The amount of decrement of the residual strain during a low loading block is approximately equal to the reversible part of the residual strain due to the stabilized martensite. The decrease of the residual strain during the low loading block is approximately equal to the reversible part of residual strain due to the stabilized martensite. A good correlation of the effective Young’s modulus for both load blocks with residual strain, which is a measure of the volume of irreversible martensite, is observed.

Progressive, high-strength materials have an important position in the transport industry. In this industry, components are subject to high safety and reliability requirements because they often operate under long-term cyclic stress regimes. The paper presents results of fatigue resistance of high-strength materials such DOMEX 700MC, HARDOX 400, HARDOX 450, and INCONEL 718 (UTS from 850 to 1560 MPa) measured at high-frequency cyclic loading (f = 20 kHz, T = 20 ± 5 ° C, push-pull loading, cycle asymmetry parameter of R = -1) in the area from N = 2x106 to N = 2x108 cycles. Fatigue resistance showed a continuous decrease about average value Sa2x108/Sa2x106 = 19.1%.

This article deals with determining of fatigue lifetime of aluminum alloy 6063-T66 during by multiaxial cyclic loading. The experiments deal with the testing of specimens for identification of the strain-life behavior of material, the modeling of combined loading and determining the number of cycles to fracture in the region of low-cycle fatigue. Fatigue tests under constant amplitude loading were performed in a standard electromechanical machine with a suitable gripping system. Based on the experimental results the fatigue design curves are compared to the fatigue data from the base material and the welded material and also multiaxial fatigue models, which are able to predict fatigue life at different loads.

Cyclic hardening and stress relaxation experiments of SUS316HTP were performed under creep-fatigue loading with tensile strain holding at 700ºC. Experiments revealed that under strain holding, the slow stress-relaxation stage satisfying Norton’s law with slight cyclic hardening followed a rapid stress-relaxation stage that was noticeably affected by cyclic hardening. This suggests that in the slow stress-relaxation stage, inelastic deformation mechanisms different from that of viscoplasticity occurred. Experiments were simulated using a cyclic viscoplastic-creep model in which the inelastic strain-rate was decomposed into viscoplastic and creep components that were affected differently by cyclic hardening. The simulation accurately reproduced the experiments.

Fatigue property of FV520B-I is affected by the ultrahigh loading frequency significantly, and the ultrasonic fatigue experimental data can’t be employed directly to analyze the fatigue failure in the actual remanufacturing engineering. However few theories about the effect of loading frequency on the fatigue property of FV520B-I has ever been proposed. In this paper, both ultrasonic experiment and conventional experiment are conducted out to obtain the fatigue data. The effect of loading frequency on the fatigue data distribution is discussed firstly, its fatigue limit declines with the increase of the loading frequency. Then the fracture surface observations are captured, the fatigue property and fatigue behavior mechanism of FV520B-I is examined by analyzing the fracture surface features, crack initiation and failure observations. A new material frequency correction factor is proposed and introduced to eliminate the influence of the loading frequency on the FV520B-I fatigue property. FV520B-I empirical fatigue life conversion model and fatigue strength conversion model are established with comprehensive use of a fitting algorithm based on the combination of experimental data and classic formula. A clear understand of the effect of loading frequency on the fatigue property of FV520B-I is novel and has an important significance in guaranteeing the accuracy of the actual fatigue analysis of FV520B-I in the remanufacturing engineering.

W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki badań trwałościowych końcówki drążka kierowniczego pojazdu o dmc powyżej 3.5 tony. W badaniach wykorzystywano wielkogabarytową platformę wibroizolowaną, serwohydrauliczny siłownik mobilny oraz cyfrowy kontroler sygnałów IST Instron. Próby prowadzono w warunkach działania obciążenia zmiennego cyklicznie do uzyskania 2×106 cykli. Ze względu na kompleksową ocenę zachowania końcówki drążka kierowniczego testy przerywano, by wykonywać oględziny obiektu badań. Wyznaczono zmiany kąta wychylenia oraz momentu siły w funkcji liczby cykli oraz przedstawiono ich prognozę. Omówiono procedurę badawczą służącą ocenie trwałości przegubu kulistego.
The paper reports results from test of steering rod tip used in car having permissible total mass above 3.5 t. Anti-vibration platform, servo-hydraulic actuator and digital controller IST Instron were used to execute the tests. The experiments were carried out under cyclic loading up to 2×106 cycles. The tests were interrupted for inspecting the examined object. Variations of angle and force moment and prediction of their values versus number of cycles are presented. Details of experimental procedure for evaluation of steering rod tip are provided.

The paper presents the results of low and high frequency fatigue tests carried out on nodular cast iron. The specimens of synthetic nodular cast irons from three different melts were studied in the high cycle fatigue region (from 105 to 108 cycles) using fatigue experimental equipments for low and high frequency cyclic loading. Low frequency fatigue tests were carried out at frequency f ≈ 120 Hz using the fatigue experimental machine Zwick/Roell Amsler 150HFP 5100; high frequency fatigue tests were carried out at frequency f ≈ 20 kHz using the ultrasonic fatigue testing device KAUP-ZU. Both fatigue tests were realised at sinusoidal cyclic push-pull loading (stress ratio R = –1) at ambient temperature (T = 20 ± 5 °C).

Opis:
Three melts of ferrite-pearlitic nodular cast iron with different charge composition were used for fatigue tests. Wöhler fatigue curves and fatigue strength were obtained, and microstructure and fracture surfaces were investigated. The aim of the paper is to determine the influence of charge composition on microstructure, mechanical and fatigue properties of synthetic nodular cast irons and their micromechanisms of failure. Fatigue tests were realised at low frequency sinusoidal cyclic push-pull loading (stress ratio R = −1) at ambient temperature (T = 20 ±5°C). They were carried out with using the fatigue experimental machine Zwick/Roell Amsler 150HFP 5100 at frequency f ≈ 120 Hz. The results of fatigue tests at low frequency cyclic loading are compared with fatigue properties at high frequency cyclic loadin.
