The paper presents a case study for assessing the quality of university teachers' work based on the average exam marks achieved by their students. The pilot research described in the paper was conducted on several groups of students participating in a chosen university course, during one academic year (2012/2013). Both the course and the final exam were meticulously designed and unified in order to ensure comparable conditions for every group. The proposed method of assessment encompasses basic characteristics of all students for a given semester/academic year, characteristics of every single students group (based on an average study mark for a group-as-a-whole) and considers the influence of the exam mark obtained by a given student on his/her average study mark as well on an average study mark for the group the student belonged to. The research was based on general statistics and grade correspondence analysis. The results of the pilot are very promising therefore the authors continued their work in the following academic year. Although the study was carried out only for one course it seems plausible, that presented approach could also be applied for other university courses.

Rosnąca rola nowych technologii spowodowała zmiany w sposobie przeprowadzania egzaminu zawodowego. Jedną z nich jest możliwość przeprowadzania egzaminu teoretycznego w wersji elektronicznej. W opracowaniu przedstawione zostały procedury związane z tą formą zewnętrznego oceniania uczestników kształcenia zawodowego. Zamieszczone zostały również dane statystyczne obrazujące odsetek szkół korzystających z tego rozwiązania.
The growing role of new technologies has resulted in changes in the way a vocational exam is conducted. One of them is the possibility to conduct the theoretical exam in electronic version. The work presents the procedures related to this form of external assessment of vocational training participants. There are also statistics showing the percentage of schools using this solution.

Re-exam is a form of supplementary assessment designed to provide second opportunity for students who scored final course marks between [30 and 40). This study employed survey design that involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Questionnaire, interview and document analysis for collecting data from both primary and secondary sources were designed and executed. 315 students and 15 instructors were incorporated as a sample using stratified random and purposive sampling techniques respectively. Available sampling technique was utilized to add 10 cluster registrar heads and 18 registrar data managers as a sample. The finding of the study showed that: poor academic background of the students, health problem at the time of exam and deliberately scoring FX grade were the main causes that expose students to score FX grade. Additionally, it was found out that, majority of students scored FX grade in across departmental courses than home base courses. The finding further indicated that, re-exam is playing great role in helping low achieving students to improve their academic achievement as 43% of the students who scored FX grade in their first assessment have scored C and above marks after re-exam. The relationship between study year level and the number of students who scored FX grade (r = -0.92, p < 0.05) is negative and significant. The computed t-test result t(971) = 1.0, p> 0.05 indicated that males and females are not differed significantly on their achievement of re-exam

W stanowisku do Trybunału Konstytucyjnego Sejm wniósł o uznanie przepisów ustawy, które normują zasady udostępniania pytań z Lekarskiego Egzaminu Końcowego, Lekarsko-Dentystycznego Egzaminu Końcowego oraz Państwowego Egzaminu Specjalizacyjnego, za niezgodne z Konstytucją. Będąca autorem wniosku Naczelna Rada Lekarska stwierdziła, że pytania egzaminacyjne z przywołanych egzaminów stanowią informację publiczną, do której dostęp gwarantowany jest konstytucyjnie. W stanowisku podzielono tę konstatację i argumentację NRL, stwierdzając, że zaskarżone przepisy nie spełniają warunków zasadności ograniczenia dla ochrony porządku publicznego czy praw innych osób.

Artykuł porusza problematykę egzaminu typu open book, przedstawione zostały jego cechy charakterystyczne i powody, dla których warto korzystać z tej formy egzaminowania. Zaprezentowano wnioski z ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród studentów dotyczącej ich nastawienia do tego typu egzaminu. Omówiono również wyniki egzaminu, który zawierał zadanie typu open book. Zdaniem autora, egzamin typu open book może być z powodzeniem wykorzystywany do sprawdzania efektów uczenia się w zakresie wiedzy i umiejętności, które student powinien rozumieć i potrafić właściwie wykorzystać mając dostęp do zasobów ze źródeł zewnętrznych.
The article discusses the issues of the open book exam, presents its characteristics and reasons for using this form of examination. The tasks on such an exam usually require explanation, interpretation, inference, analysis of the given problem and use of knowledge. In this kind of exam problem solving, critical thinking and creativity are supported. So, we come to the higher categories in Bloom’s taxonomy and from the mathematics didactics point of view, we consider groups B and C in Mathematical Assessment Task Hierarchy. The conclusions of the survey, conducted among students, concerning the students’ attitude to this type of examination are presented. The results of the exam, which was partially open book, are also discussed. According to the author, knowledge that an engineer should be able to use immediately - without needing to consult outside sources, should be assessed in a closed book exam. Whereas, knowledge that a student should understand and be able to apply properly with the use of reference sources, should be assessed in an open book exam. Teachers and experts decide which knowledge is to be assessed in a closed book exam and which in an open book exam. The author is convinced that an open book exam can significantly support the discovery and disclosure of the "true mathematical value" considered in the article.

This paper presents innovative software “Egzamin” for examination used in Post-Secondary Maritime School in Szczecin. Presented software, unlike other similar programs, allows the assessment of student skills based on the task as a test of closed and open. The software is based on a databases working in the computer local network. The software is allowed to backup all exams including student’s personal data, evaluation of all responses and time taken to solve each task. The software can also be used in e-learning.

Background: We wanted to develop substantial and statistical methodology for complex assessment of quality of teaching in internal medicine at a medical university. Our aim was also to check the connection between the results obtained during the midterm and final exam. Material and methods: We compared the results obtained by Polish (PD, n=235) and English Division (ED, n=81) students achieved during the midterm exam and multiple-choice final exam. The mean scores were calculated with t-Student test. For further evaluation Wilcoxon tests were used with the Bonferroni correction, The Stuart-Maxwell test was carried out to verify the hypothesis about correlations between results in the midterm and final exam. Results: The mean midterm exam score was 84.4% in PD and 72.6% in ED (p <0.0001) and mean final exam score was respectively 72.3% and 55.6% (p <0.0001). Good result of the final exam was obtained by 62% of students Conclusions: It is crucial to use appropriate tools to grade the quality of teaching. To evaluate that one should use advance statistical tests. The fact that ED students achieve less points on the exams might have several reasons such as the language barrier. Obtaining a good result during midterm exam does not guarantee passing the final exam.

Minister Edukacji Narodowej Anna Zalewska wprowadziła w 2017 roku reformę edukacji, która zmieniła cały paradygmat edukacji polonistycznej. Zmiany w egzaminach w klasie ósmej szkoły podstawowej zwiastowały kierunek zmian, który postanowiono kontynuować w strukturze egzaminu maturalnego. Nowa matura stanowi wyzwanie nie tylko dla uczniów, ale również dla nauczycieli, którzy zdezorientowani na ogół nie wiedzą, jak pracować z uczniami czteroletniego liceum oraz pięcioletniego technikum. Efekt zwrotny egzaminu sprawia, że zmienił się sposób pracy na lekcjach języka polskiego, zmodyfikowano także wymagania wobec uczniów. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest omówienie najważniejszych zmian w egzaminie maturalnym, komparatystyczne zestawienie egzaminów zewnętrznych oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, jak należy organizować pracę uczniów na lekcjach w obliczu najtrudniejszej matury od czasów wprowadzenia zewnętrznego charakteru tego egzaminu.
The Minister of National Education, Anna Zalewska, introduced a reform of education in 2017, which changed the entire paradigm of Polish language education. Changes to the exams in the eighth grade of primary school heralded the direction of changes, which it was decided to continue in the structure of the matura exam. The new exam is a challenge not only for students, but also for teachers who, when confused, do not know how to work with students of a four-year high school and a five-year technical school. The feedback effect of the exam has changed the way of working in Polish language lessons, and the requirements for students have also been modified. The aim of this article is to discuss the most important changes in the matura exam, to provide a comparative list of external exams and an attempt to answer the question of how to organize students’ work in class in the face of the most difficult matura exam since the introduction of the external character of this exam.

W artykule przedstawiona została metoda testowania wyobraźni przestrzennej, którą wykorzystano jako element egzaminów wstępnych na Wydziale Wzornictwa Przemysłowego Uniwersytetu Technicznego w Koszycach (Słowacja). Autorka opisała sposób przeprowadzenia testów, opis statystyczny uzyskanych wyników oraz ich związek z oceną uzdolnień plastycznych kandydatów na w/w studia. Przeprowadzone badania nie wykazały związku między ocenami z testu na wyobraźnię przestrzenną a oceną z uzdolnień plastycznych. W końcowej części artykułu przeprowadzono analizę, której celem jest ustalenie przyczyn takiego stanu.

In the years 2011–2012 Polish universities were obligated to implement education requirements In compliance with the National Qualifications Framework. First the universities defined intended learning outcomes, a basis on which curricula were drawn up. The most difficult part of the implemented system is the appropriate identification of method(s) to assess whether the expected learning outcomes have been achieved. This article discusses an examination system commissioned by maritime administration for seafarer examining, and indicates possibilities of using the developed solutions in the process of learning outcomes assessment at technical universities and academies.

The paper is founded on the distinction between traditional school represented by Johann F. Herbart and progressive school here represented by Bell Hooks. The main purpose of this article is to describe specific characteristics of these two educational models taking into account changes within them. Foucault’s disciplinary power schema provides methodological tools for better apprehension of the location of power in the classroom. In particular, the concept of exam mentioned by Foucault in his Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison has great importance for better understanding of changes within the two aforementioned educational models and student-teacher relations. It appears that power is a fundamental element in these relations, which is exemplified by the presence of the hidden curriculum and how it affects students. Conceiving teaching as a technical activity the autor argues that the way this power is performed depends on the teacher’s character, skills and will.

The present article attempts to show how important and easy it is to use authentic material in the classroom. However, the teacher who copies news reports from the Internet may infringe the copyright law. The article offers a comparative analysis of copyright laws in Common Law countries and the EU countries in relation to fair use. The article tries to determine whether teachers may copy, what teachers may copy, what to do with authentic materials as screenshots and how to adapt them to TELC, KET and PET examination tasks. The Author suggests some reading comprehension and grammar development activities designed using Paint and screenshots.
