Opis:
This article suggests an overview of the social brain, evaluation of local and global groups and the relationship between the individual, the brain and society. Emphasis is put on individual and collective identity and on the shaping of public opinion through the media and on examining future developments that will mold social trends and most importantly, whether it is possible to promote the evolution of a better society that is built on cooperation, reciprocity, altruism, understanding, attention, sensitivity, values and a high level of ethical functioning. The development of thinking, planning and new revelations have increased the need for engagement and connection with others. The human brain has developed self-interest thinking. Utilitarian calculations have become a part of humanity's engagements. Group relationships are essential for survival, care, concern and security. The product of the dichotomous existence of man and society: egoism versus cooperation and altruism. In order to survive as an individual in the group and as a group, the social brain developed and shaped thinking procedures of framing and instincts in patterns of feelings and emotions. The influencing messages of environmental sources which exist in the public sphere impact by pass the human brain through "mirror" nerves, stereotype thinking and collective and evolutionary memory, fulfilling basic motivation needs, creating belonging, love and appreciation. For instance, the media that uses these groups shared involvement feelings and collective identity to shape by means of "framing" the public opinion and way of thinking, and by that shape the perception of the reality.

Opis:
The objective of this paper is to develop feasible gait patterns that could be used to control a real hexapod walking robot. These gaits should enable the fastest movement that is possible with the given robot's mechanics and drives on a flat terrain. Biological inspirations are commonly used in the design of walking robots and their control algorithms. However, legged robots differ significantly from their biological counterparts. Hence we believe that gait patterns should be learned using the robot or its simulation model rather than copied from insect behaviour. However, as we have found tahula rasa learning ineffective in this case due to the large and complicated search space, we adopt a different strategy: in a series of simulations we show how a progressive reduction of the permissible search space for the leg movements leads to the evolution of effective gait patterns. This strategy enables the evolutionary algorithm to discover proper leg co-ordination rules for a hexapod robot, using only simple dependencies between the states of the legs and a simple fitness function. The dependencies used are inspired by typical insect behaviour, although we show that all the introduced rules emerge also naturally in the evolved gait patterns. Finally, the gaits evolved in simulations are shown to be effective in experiments on a real walking robot.

This paper presents a comparative analysis of three evolutionary algorithms, namely, Backtracking Search Algorithm, Cuckoo Search Algorithm and Artificial Bee Colony Algorithms for synthesis of a scanned linear array of uniformly spaced parallel half wavelength dipole antennas. Here, antenna parameters, namely Side Lobe Level, reflection coefficient and wide null depth are taken into consideration for comparison between algorithms. In addition to it, statistical parameters, namely best fitness value, mean and standard deviation of the fitness values obtained from algorithms are compared. Mutual coupling that exists among the antenna elements is included in obtaining radiation patterns and the self-impedances along with the mutual impedances are calculated by induced Electro-Motive Force method. Two different examples are shown in this paper to validate the effectiveness of the utilized approach. Although, this approach is applied to a linear array of dipole antennas; this can be utilized for other array geometries as well.

Proportional - Integral - Derivative control schemes continue to provide the simplest and effective solutions to most of the control engineering applications today. How ever PID controller are poorly tuned in practice with most of the tuning done manually which is difficult and time consuming. This article comes up with a hybrid approach involving Genetic Algorithm (GA), Evolutionary Pro gramming (EP), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). The proposed hybrid algorithm is used to tune the PID parameters and its per formance has been compared with the conventional me thods like Ziegler Nichols and Cohen Coon method. The results obtained reflect that use of heuristic algorithm based controller improves the performance of process in terms of time domain specifications, set point tracking, and regulatory changes and also provides an optimum stability. Speed control of DC motor process is used to assess the efficacy of the heuristic algorithm methodology

Why is language unique? How did language come about? When did this happen? These questions, although quite emblematic of the Western intellectual tradition since its ancient beginnings, so far have not found satisfying answers. Indeed, many still question the very possibility of addressing these basic problems of the origins of language with proper scientific rigor (see e.g. Hauser et al. 2014). However, an emerging consensus is that current research in the field of language evolution is in fact bearing fruit, making it at least possible to judge in an informed manner which of these competing scenarios are far more or less probable. In what follows, I guide the reader through some of this research and some of these scenarios; for more details, I refer the reader to a recent book (Żywiczyński & Wacewicz 2015), which is the first monograph that presents this developing field of language evolution research to the Polish reader.

The Action–Trait theory of human motivation posits that individual differences in predispositional traits of action may account for variance in contemporary purposeful human behavior. Prior research has supported the theory, psychometric properties of scales designed to assess the motive dimensions of the theory, and the utility of these scales to predict an array of behaviors, but this is the first study to evaluate the cross-linguistical invariance of the 15-factor theoretical model. This study evaluated translations of the English language 60-item Quick AIM in 5 samples – Croatian (N = 614), French (N = 246), German (N = 154), Polish (M = 314), and U.S. English (N = 490) – recruited from 4 countries (Croatia, Poland, Switzerland, and the U.S.). Exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) supported the theoretical model on which the traits of action are based and scrutinized the measurement invariance (configural, metric, scalar invariance) of the scale across the languages.

Consonant clusters appear either lexically within morphemes or morphonotactically across morpheme boundaries. According to extant theories, their diachronic dynamics are suggested to be determined by analogical effects on the one hand as well as by their morphological signaling function on the other hand. This paper presents a mathematical model which allows for an investigation of the interaction of these two forces and the resulting diachronic dynamics. The model is tested against synchronic and diachronic language data. It is shown that the evolutionary dynamics of the cluster inventory crucially depend on how the signaling function of morphonotactic clusters is compromised by the presence of lexical items containing their morpheme internal counterparts.

In this paper, application of an evolutionary strategy to positioning a GI/M/1/N-type finite-buffer queueing system with exhaustive service and a single vacation policy is presented. The examined object is modeled by a conditional joint transform of the first busy period, the first idle time and the number of packets completely served during the first busy period. A mathematical model is defined recursively by means of input distributions. In the paper, an analytical study and numerical experiments are presented. A cost optimization problem is solved using an evolutionary strategy for a class of queueing systems described by exponential and Erlang distributions.

Face recognition (FR) is one of the most active research areas in the field of computer vision. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been extensively used in this field due to their good efficiency. Thus, it is important to find the best CNN parameters for its best performance. Hyperparameter optimization is one of the various techniques for increasing the performance of CNN models. Since manual tuning of hyperparameters is a tedious and time-consuming task, population based metaheuristic techniques can be used for the automatic hyperparameter optimization of CNNs. Automatic tuning of parameters reduces manual efforts and improves the efficiency of the CNN model. In the proposed work, genetic algorithm (GA) based hyperparameter optimization of CNNs is applied for face recognition. GAs are used for the optimization of various hyperparameters like filter size as well as the number of filters and of hidden layers. For analysis, a benchmark dataset for FR with ninety subjects is used. The experimental results indicate that the proposed GA-CNN model generates an improved model accuracy in comparison with existing CNN models. In each iteration, the GA minimizes the objective function by selecting the best combination set of CNN hyperparameters. An improved accuracy of 94.5% is obtained for FR.

Timetabling problems are often difficult and time-consuming to solve. Most of the methods of solving these problems are limited to one problem instance or class. This paper describes a universal method for solving large, highly constrained timetabling problems in various domains. The solution is based on an evolutionary algorithm framework and employs tabu search to quicken the solution finding process. Hyper-heuristics are used to establish the algorithm's operating parameters. The method has been used to solve three timetabling problems with promising results of extensive experiments.

Opis:
For many practical weakly nonlinear systems we have their approximated linear model. Its parameters are known or can be determined by one of typical identification procedures. The model obtained using these methods well describes the main features of the system’s dynamics. However, usually it has a low accuracy, which can be a result of the omission of many secondary phenomena in its description. In this paper we propose a new approach to the modelling of weakly nonlinear dynamic systems. In this approach we assume that the model of the weakly nonlinear system is composed of two parts: a linear term and a separate nonlinear correction term. The elements of the correction term are described by fuzzy rules which are designed in such a way as to minimize the inaccuracy resulting from the use of an approximate linear model. This gives us very rich possibilities for exploring and interpreting the operation of the modelled system. An important advantage of the proposed approach is a set of new interpretability criteria of the knowledge represented by fuzzy rules. Taking them into account in the process of automatic model selection allows us to reach a compromise between the accuracy of modelling and the readability of fuzzy rules.

The Late Triassic was a time of pronounced radiation in several groups of foraminifers. The rapid evolutionary processes in the Suborder Involutinina caused particularly high diversification of these aragonitic foraminifers, which became a key group for Upper Triassic biostratigraphy. Among them, Triasina hantkeni and Triasina oberhauseri are regarded as the most precise guide fossils. However, while these species are widely used, a poor documentation of the detailed test struc− ture of T. oberhauseri has resulted in misidentifications. The exceptional preservation and abundance of Triasina oberhauseri in the Upper Triassic deposits of the Black Marble Quarry (Wallowa terrane, Oregon, USA) has allowed us to make the first detailed observations of its coiling, innermost structure and lamellae arrangement and to recognize mor− phological features that were either wrongly interpreted or not described in the original systematic definition of the spe− cies. In this paper, we demonstrate that the species possesses characteristics that hamper its assignment to Triasina and we propose a new genus, Aulosina, to accommodate this taxon. Placing emphasis on the accuracy of the morphological de− scription, the diagnosis and the systematic definition of the species are here improved. The identification of innovative features in Aulosina oberhauseri (strengthenings, shortened lamellae) highlights new evolutionary trends for the lineage of Involutinina that have proved useful for the establishment of phylogenetic links between involutinid genera and for un− derstanding the evolutive steps leading to the formation of inner−pillars in tubular foraminifers. The increasing complex− ity of Involutinina representatives at the end of the Triassic, notably marked by the appearance of internal structures in Triasininae, leads us to regard them as probable symbiont−bearing foraminifers.

The following paper presents a new method for choosing a set of master degrees of freedom for the process of dynamic condensation in order to reduce a finite element model. The general rule is that the more degrees of freedom are eliminated, the more accurate the reduced model is. However, eliminating different subsets (of equal sizes) of degrees of freedom may influence the accuracy differently. Therefore, choosing an optimal subset is crucial. The presented method is based on multicriterial evolutionary optimization which makes it the first nondeterministic approach based on computational optimization technique for this application.

In this paper, we present a novel method that utilizes the accumulation of knowledge in a rule base for solving the nonlinear frictional gripper problem for both the isotropic and orthotropic cases. The knowledge is discovered and accumulated in a rule base with the aid of a genetic based machine learning mechanism. This machine learning mechanism extracts rules for solving the problem with the help of the Evolutionary Programming [EP) algorithm. The retrievals are done using the nearest-classifier-algorithm. This approach provides online solutions for the problem, and establishes a dynamic and evolving environment that adapts with new and sudden changes on the grip specifications or on the external forces. The resulting grasping forces using the presented method are compared with grasping forces obtained using other methods, such as the Complementarity Problems. The proposed online method could update the needed grasping forces to keep firm grip if the configuration of the forces externally applied to the object is changed. Numerical examples that illustrate the proposed method are presented.
