Opis:
The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the processes of welding aluminum alloys in terms of their applicability to the process of prefabrication of ship structures. The prefabrication process requires solving a number of problems related to the welding processes used (e.g. the problem of welding incompatibilities, deformations). Therefore, the key issue is to choose the right welding process, which is complex and difficult. It requires analysis of the process considering many points of view (e.g. technological, economic, security) in order to maximize the objectivity of the choice. Therefore, an attempt at a comprehensive view requires the formulation of a set of accurate evaluation criteria. The multi-indicator expert assessment presented in the article makes it possible to make such a choice. Currently used methods of welding aluminum alloys, both those from the group of conventional and innovative methods, were assessed. As a result of the analysis, the so-called technological hierarchy that allows to rank the assessed processes in terms of their suitability in the process of prefabrication of ship structures.

The subject of the studies is the evaluation of the operation of a production system after modernization. The analysed case concerns the modernization forced by the end of the product lifetime. The proposed methodology is that of a multicriterial evaluation of the system operation after modernization. The evaluation criteria are selected TPM indices: availability of machinery and equipment, production process capacity, product quality and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). The additional criteria are reliability indices MTBF and MTTR of studied production lines and the MTTR of the most unreliable equipment in each analysed line. A yearly monitoring of production process was proposed for obtaining the statistical credibility of the evaluation results. Additionally, a fuzzy indicator of acceptability of the modernization assessment was proposed. The paper presents the results of studies of the system for production of zinc concentrate from post-production waste. The obtained values of OEE, MTBF and MTTR indicators for the three tested lines make it possible to state that the modernization carried out is acceptable.

Calculations of water distribution systems are most often performed many times because the correct solution from a technical point of view is rarely obtained after the first calculation run; hence, we can talk about a multistage calculation process. In connection with this, the calculation process of computer water distribution systems can be additionally supplemented with elements of process diagnostics. Diagnostic activities should be carried out using numerical algorithms, which can be a complement to classical hydraulic calculations of water distribution systems. The condition for reliable functioning of the diagnostic system formulated in this way is the efficient detection of computational irregularities. For this purpose, diagnostic problems were defined for the water pipes and the connection nodes in the water distribution system. The proposed diagnostic tests analyze the calculation results and indicate whether the solution is correct or, if irregularities are detected, suggest a way to solve the problem. Diagnostic tests are carried out using artificial neural networks.

Opis:
The objects of the study are parallel-structure machine systems with redundancy associated with safety assurance of continuous material flow. The problem concerns systems in which the supply of materials takes place continuously (24 hours a day), and the system of operated machines must ensure the receipt and movement of the material at a strictly defined time and in the desired quantity. It is a system where the presence of a failure poses a threat to human life and environmental degradation. This paper presents a method for system condition assessment and upgrading for maintaining proper operation under conditions of continuous operation. A database of information about the current parameters of the system components (measurements, monitoring) is necessary for condition assessment. The method also uses lean techniques (including TPM). System evaluation and selection criteria for a suitable structure in terms of further operation were proposed. Exemplification was performed for an underground mine drainage system. As a part of the identification, selected parameters of the system components were measured, and their characteristics (motors, pumps, pipelines) were developed. The results of the analysis and the values of the adopted criteria were compared to the indicators for new pump sets. A two-option system upgrade was proposed, in addition to machine operating schedules, maintenance periods, and overhaul cycles.

Diabetes, adjudged a risk factor for coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19), can be managed through consumption of plantain and its associated products. Plantain is usually processed into flour and other storable/value-added products due to its very short shelf-life. To process unripe plantain pulps into flour, there is a need for size reduction after drying. This paper presents the development and performance evaluation of a size reduction unit for pulverizing, sieving and conveying material to the next processing stage in a plantain flour process plant. Its model was developed using solidworks application software. After design analysis, the model was simulated to establish its suitability/adequacy for fabrication. The pulverizer was fabricated using locally available materials. Its performance evaluation gave 400kg/h throughput, 96% crushing efficiency and 96% efficiency based on the required particle size. The average particle size of flour obtained was 236μm using 500μm screen. Effect of cyclone control-valve on the pulverizer’s overall efficiency was also investigated by allowing it to operate when the valve was completely closed, partially closed and fully opened. It was observed that the control-valve’s positions significantly influenced the machine’s performance/efficiency. It can thus be inferred that the position of cyclone control-valve has significant effect on a pulverizer’s efficiency/performance. Hence, leaving control-valve fully opened during operation would help a pulverizer perform with optimum efficiency, as the pulverizer was able to convey material, efficiently in that position, to the next processing stage during performance evaluation.

There is a need for vehicle relocation, whether for delivering new vehicles to their selling destinations, pulling inoperative or damaged vehicles out of traffiic, or removing illegally parked vehicles from the street. The relocation of illegally parked vehicles in the City of Zagreb is done by constantly monitoring parked vehicles or through citizen telephone alerts. The paper analyses the vehicle relocation service of the Zagrebparking company, which, in addition to overseeing car park management in public car parks and garages, is in charge of removing illegally parked vehicles. Due to the cyclic nature of its operations, a high share of empty rides, high vehicle investment costs, small quantities of cargo transported, high fuel prices, and high fuel consumption in the urban environment, Zagrebparking’s Vehicle Relocation Department operates with unnecessarily high costs. In this paper, vehicle relocation efficiency is analysed by presenting indicators of vehicle utilisation as part of a systematic evaluation of the company. Improvements to the current service are also provided.

The movement of goods is an essential part of the functioning of a modern society. In order to ensure the safety of this process, it has been regulated by law and customs duties on the export and import of goods have been imposed on goods, which are levied by particular countries. Efficient and safe movement of goods is based on an appropriate customs process. In order to investigate and improve this process, a network analysis method has been used. The paper explores the use of the software supporting network analysis by the PERT method, with the help of the WinQSB 2.0 add-on package, and identifies the advantages and disadvantages of its use. It presents definitions of customs and commodity. The basics of customs law, customs procedures, security of goods movement, decision optimization in issues of the safety and the method of network programming – PERT were described. The customs import process plan between a third country and an EU Member State was examined using the PERT method and then developed in the PERT_CPM module that supports the network analysis. The objective of this paper is to determine the use of software supporting network analysis using the PERT method in a security-related undertaking.

This article concerns a new method of assessing the thread cutting process and the quality of the formed thread using the method of optical observation of the workpiece during machining. A series of digital images of the thread profile was taken in transmitted light for each tool infeed. Such images, obtained with high resolution for three angular positions, were binarized, with the space between ridges taken in successive infeeds identified as “void”, and its projection was then parameterized. Two of these parameters, area of void and aspect ratio, were used as indicators of the technological quality of the thread. The suitability of the selected parameters for technological description of the thread was verified using the example of titanium alloy thread turning under ambient and cryogenic conditions.

Opis:
Purpose: Major aim of the work was to formulate 2-parameters models of the cavitation erosion process and to bring about the particular methods for prediction of its performance with due calculation formulas. Design/methodology/approach: Phenomenological model of the erosion supplemented with functional relationships between calculation parameters and the strength parameters stand for the foundations of the method. Having assumed the probabilistic nature of the process and fatigue regime of the material destruction, the volume loss in time has been determined as proportional to the integral of the appropriate probability function. Correlations between parameters have been derived by adjusting the computed erosion curves to the experimental ones for the vast diversity of the cases. Findings: Two different formulas for the volume loss of the material in time under cavitation loading have been derived. Research limitations/implications: Results obtained from both the International Cavitation Erosion Test program as well as the own experiments carried out at the rotating disk set-up supplied necessary experimental data. Preliminary verification of the method soundness was completed. Assumption on the independence of the calculation parameters on the loading conditions have been taken. The approach is valid provided the defined relationships are also independent on the type and amplitude of the loading. Practical implications: Achieving the objectives is expected to result in developing a technique for assessment of the material damage under cavitation loadings. Numerical implementation of the model completed with the derived functional relationships stand for a tool, enabling a prospective user to predict the material performance under defined cavitation loading. Originality/value: New formulas for calculating the efficiency of cavitation erosion, inferred from the models of high physical clarity are the original contribution to the methodology and techniques concerned.

Opis:
For highly reliable and long-life products, accelerated degradation test (ADT) is often an effective and attractive way to assess the reliability. To analyze the accelerated degradation data, it has been well recognized that it is necessary to incorporate three sources of variability including the temporal variability, the unit-to-unit variability and measurement errors into the ADT model. The temporal variability can be properly described by the Wiener process. However, the randomness of the initial degradation level, which is an important part of the unit-to-unit variability, has been often neglected. In addition, regarding the measurement errors, current ADT models often assumed them to follow a mutually independent normal distribution and ignored the autocorrelation that may probably exist in them. These problems lead to a poor accuracy for reliability evaluation in some situation. Thus, a random-effect Wiener process-based ADT model considering one-order autoregressive (AR(1)) errors is proposed. Then closed-form expressions for the failure time distribution (FTD) is derived based on the concept of first hitting time (FHT). A statistical inference method is adopted to estimate unknown parameters. Finally, a comprehensive simulation study and a practical application are given to demonstrate the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed model.
W przypadku wysoce niezawodnych produktów o długim cyklu życia, przyspieszone badanie degradacji (ADT) często stanowi skuteczny i atrakcyjny sposób oceny niezawodności. Ponadto, w odniesieniu do błędów pomiaru, obecne modele ADT często zakładają, że mają one wzajemnie niezależne rozkłady normalne, ignorując możliwą autokorelację. Problemy te prowadzą w niektórych sytuacjach do niskiej trafności oceny niezawodności. W związku z powyższym, zaproponowano model ADT oparty na procesie Wienera z efektem losowym, w którym uwzględniono błędy autoregresyjne pierwszego rzędu (AR (1)). Następnie, w oparciu o pojęcie pierwszego czasu przejścia, wyprowadzono wyrażenia w postaci zamkniętej dla rozkładu czasu uszkodzenia (FTD). Do oszacowania nieznanych parametrów przyjęto metodę wnioskowania statystycznego. Na koniec przedstawiono kompleksowe studium symulacyjne i wskazano praktyczne zastosowanie modelu w celu wykazania jego racjonalności i skuteczności.

Opis:
In mineral processing separation efficiency (SE), operation efficiency (OE), selectivity index (SI) and other indices have been used to evaluate the separation process. Up to now, no study has been conducted on the relationship between the SE, OE and SI indices. In this research, two upgrading curves are proposed based on the above indices for process and selectivity evaluation. The first upgrading curve is based on recovery R, SE, and OE as a function of concentrate grade. This curve has three background lines, including no upgrading line, ideal upgrading line and the ideal mixing line. The proposed upgrading curve is applicable not only for process evaluation by specification of OE and SE, but also for selectivity evaluation with the lowest difference between SE and OE. The curve showed that the recovery value is always greater than the SE and OE values. The parameters of OE, SE and R were used for plotting the upgrading curve as a function of concentrate grade taking into consideration all of them at a time. A new selectivity indicator, namely Efficiency Ratio (ER) as the selectivity parameter, is proposed as the ratio of OE to SE. The ER values fluctuate between 1 and . It can be presented as a function of concentrate and tailing grades (ER = [c(1-t)]/[1(c-t)]). The results showed that ER is insensitive to the feed grade and has the inverse relationship with SI. To measure the separation selectivity, another upgrading curve is proposed based on ER and SI parameters. This curve is divided into seven separation classes for evaluation the class of a separation process from ideal class to no separation one. The results of this research can be useful for separation process evaluation.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – The aim of this article is to present the concept of a multicriteria model of process maturity assessment (MMPM), which allows to assess the degree of implementation of process solutions with respect to three dimensions: short-term, long-term and systemic. Design/methodology/approach – The characteristics of the model presented in the article was preceded by a review of the literature and the analysis of secondary research related to the assessment of the degree of implementation of elements of the process approach in management. Findings – As a result of the review of the literature and the analysis of secondary re-search, a thesis was formulated that quantitative research using the existing methodolo-gies for identifying the implementation of a process approach in management is insuffi-cient in the precise assessment of the organization’s process maturity. This means that they should be extended to include qualitative research. The solution to this problem may be the use of a multidimensional model of process maturity assessment of the organization. Research implications/limitations – The application of MMPM makes it possible to assess the degree of implementation of the process approach elements using the opinion poll method. This means that the results may be subject to random or non-random errors, depending on the selection technique of the research sample. At this point, it should also be emphasized that in order to provide a precision assessment of process maturity using the MMPM, the questions in the questionnaire should be adapted to the specifics of the area under examination. Originality/value/contribution – The scope of this article fills in the research gap that exists in terms of assessing the process maturity of the organization in the long run, understood as defining the direction of development, stagnation or atrophy of implementation of process solutions in the organization. The concept of the MMPM presented in the article makes it possible to assess process maturity in three dimensions: short-term, long-term and system-based. In addition, the structure of the model enables the reconfiguration of the research questionnaire with questions of a self-reinforcing character by the respondent to questions, enabling the assessment of the level of maturity on the basis of symptoms.
