Opis:
The author seeks an answer to a complex question whether and on what conditions economy may be considered an empirical science. In the first part, basic epistemological and methodological issues along with the problems of rhetorical nature encountered by economists are discussed. In the next part peculiarities of economics are explored, in particular limited possibility of experimenting, uncertainty and generality of forecasts, how research and publication of results influence an object of research and the linkages between economics and human interests. Finally the future directions for economic research are debated, especially, the possible potential of experimental economics and observation, as well as whether and to what extent results of a research can be predicted.

The problem of the concept of ecological and environmental economics and the relationship between them is the vital research problem in modern economics. The presentation of disputes in this respect is the subject of the presented article. For obvious, substantive and non-substantive reasons, the scientific views of Professor Tomasz Żylicz will be the central axis. The purpose of the topic presented in this paper analysis is not to settle the controversy but to present the dispute using the views of some discussion participants, especially the comments formulated by Professor Tomasz Żylicz. The research method is based on a critical analysis of the literature and desktop research. Conclusion 1: The problem of understanding ecological and environmental economics is just one of the many important issues that can be found in the works of Professor Tomasz Żylicz. Conclusion 2: This problem is connected with very interesting theoretical, cognitive and terminological issues and practical issues related to the implemented environmental policies or sustainable development strategies at their various levels.

In the paper a thesis is stated that institutional economics presents considerable support for business ethics teaching. The assumptions of main-stream economics eliminated the problems of morality in economic life. The dominance of neo-classical economics in economic studies curricula contributes to the social opinion that business is deprived of moral dimensions. From this point of view, it is argued that business ethicists should be more interested in institutional economics. Some institutionalists see economics close to social moral philosophy and claim that a normative approach in economics is natural and necessary. The questions of aims and economic morality are integral parts of many institutional research agendas. Especially the New Institutional Economics has developed tools that enable formalization and empirical verification of theories of morality in business. Institutional economics enriches the theoretical and empirical context of business ethics teaching.

Mainstream economics has been running the gauntlet of adverse criticism for decades. These critiques claim as a message of central importance that mainstream economics has lost its relevance for understanding reality. By making a brief comparison between the methodological strategies of the main stream and institutional economics I suggest that the firm demarcation between the streams stems from the difference between their methodologies. Its peculiar interest directed mainstream economics to take a unique methodological path and consequently the adherents have not been able to be on the lookout for certain facets of socio-economic reality. However, the chosen path, the axiomatic-deductive strategy proved to be an appropriate method for identifying economic laws. This claim is justified even by some recent efforts of new institutional economics. In order to support the conversation between the schools I highlight some causes that currently make it impossible to start a rational discourse.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to show the diversity in behavioral economics from both a normative and an explanatory point of view. Based on a critical analysis of the literature, the author presents behavioral economics from three perspectives: the perspective of diversification of the ideas about the way of functioning of human mind and normative suggestions concerning rationality, the perspective of connections between views on rationality and on the optimal economic system, and the perspective of the relationship between a psychological and institutional approach in economics. The analysis leads to the conclusion that in behavioral economics, we can find two opposite approaches to rationality, which result in different assessments of both individual behavior as well as the functioning of social institutions. The ”old” school of behavioral economics, which developed the concept of ecological rationality, is closely related to the institutional approach. The ”new” behavioral economics is less critical of neoclassical economics. It is a consequence of their tendency to interpret rationality in a constructivist spirit. But it is worth emphasizing the important common feature connecting both schools of behavioral economics with institutional economics. Institutionalism and the old school of behavioral economics emphasize the role of institutions from the cognitive, normative, and regulatory perspectives. The new behavioral economics adopts a normative conception of rationality close to that of neoclassical economics, but strongly accentuates the contextual character of human knowledge and behavior, i.e. one of the fundamental principles of the Kahneman school is framing decisions. There is an analogy between how social institutions on the one hand, and the formulation of the problem on the other affect the decisions of the individual. An architecture of choice is created as a result of the activities of private entities and governments. The advocates of libertarian paternalism are conscious of the threat stemming from the fact that cognitive deficiencies affect not only individuals as private entities, but also individuals as regulators and experts, hence their caution with respect to regulatory solutions. Behavioral economics as well as institutional economics both show various aspects and the complexity of the problem of coordination and regulation in a social system. The development of these two streams of economic thought reflects a return to a more balanced approach, both with respect to the assumptions of economic theory as well as with respect to reaching political conclusions based on economic theory.

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to highlight the differences between mainstream and heterodox economics and essence of the dispute between them, as well as to indicate that this dispute results from attachment to a reductionist Cartesian research approach. Research method – The work utilises a review and analysis of the literature on the subject, deductive and inductive inference, as well as a linguistic descriptive method and tabular summaries. Results – The author concludes that the contemporary discussion between economic trends can be reduced to a confrontation of two reductionisms in the perception of economics: individualistic and objective, as well as social and normative. Breaking this methodological limitation provides an opportunity to search for pluralistic (integrated) economic positions in the future. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – Awareness of methodological aspects of the dispute between economic trends. Indication of the possibility of building pluralistic and integrated positions. Usefulness in building economic theory. Awareness of the need for diversity in economic research.

The subject matter of this paper is Buddhist economics in theory and practice. The goal is to point out the main concepts of Buddhist economics, which is different from Western mainstream economics, and then explain how applying Buddhist teachings to business can possibly improve societal well-being and the condition of the natural environment. The main contribution of the article is twofold. Firstly, it aims to plumb the literature to identify characteristics of Buddhist economics, which is a relatively new field. Secondly, it compares Buddhist enterprises to relatively well-known social enterprises, showing the main differences between them. “Buddhist ideas in practice” are illustrated by examples of such companies as Benefit System or Patagonia. The main conclusion is that money and wealth are allowed in Buddhism, but religion reminds people not to become attached to their possessions and to share them with others. Examples described in the paper lead to an awareness that economic activity can be a means to a noble life. New criteria of assessment of business success including social engagement and care for the environment should be created. Thus, deep institutional changes which redefine the roles and duties of business would be required. The paper is based on literature, documents and online sources. The research methods used are the critique of literature covering the subject matter, comparative analysis and elements of case studies.

Studying the problem of the invisible hand may be very insightful, but also it brings up some dangers. As an ethicist, I would like to mention one very important axiological danger that occurs in some studies conducted by social scientists on the market especially linked to the invisible hand assumption. It is a danger of moral reductionism that results from assumption that rules of invisible hand are scientific laws. We might say that economic imperialism is not anything special. It is popular that when a scholar develops good theory, he tries to apply it to the widest possible range of phenomena, but in most cases, he is put in his place by fellow scientists. Economists, surprisingly, succeeded in widening the scope of their investigation without any loud objections. In my paper, I would like to explore the idea that economic imperialism is a leading paradigm in many spheres of science which has resulted in unintended social consequences. If we want to overcome this paradigm, we need to start with redefining, reinventing, revaluing the language we use.

A. Allan Schmid
Opis:
In recent decades there is a growing tendency in economics to question some concepts or even the whole paradigm dominant in economic science in the last century. Financial crisis which led to a considerable downturn in the economy in 2008−2009 has acted as an additional incentive to intensify this tendency. The debatable approach is known as neoclassical theory or neoclassical economics. The fact needs to be emphasised that a widening circle of critically-oriented scholars does not contend itself with pointing at the weaknesses of neoclassical economics. Their disapproval is accompanied by the attempts to establish a new analytical framework which would be free from the drawbacks of neoclassical theory and that can provide an alternative model of explaining the phenomena and processes taking place on economic level of social life. Researchers classified to institutional and behavioural economics, which still remains on the fringes of the orthodox approach, are particularly active in making the efforts of this kind. The aim of the article is to draw attention of Polish readers to the concept of A. Allan Schmid presented in his book entitled Conflict and Cooperation: Institutional and Behavioral Economics. Schmid’s work seems to be a significant step towards developing an alternative model of analysing economic phenomena and processes. The other point that is worth noticing is the fact that his concept has some interesting didactic values and could be recommended as an excellent supplementary item to a reading list proposed for economics courses. Relying on the ground of the New Institutional Economics (NIE), Schmid emphasis an interrelatedness between institutions and human behaviour. The fundamental significance of human behaviour for shaping institutions justifies invoking to scientific achievements of behavioural economics. Schmid tries to establish a model that could be applied not only to the analysis of an impact and significance of particular institutions on economic performance, but also to grasp the factors which seem to be important for changes in institutional structures. His solution is based on a three-stages model called SSP (situation – structure – performance). The first step consists in the delimitation of introductory conditions, the next is an analysis of institutional structure and the purpose of the last phase is to consider how this structure affects an allocation of benefits and losses of economic entities. The scheme is then consequently used for the analysis of a number of issues discussed in contemporary economic theory. Schmid competently avails himself of the concepts and conclusions expressed by the representatives of institutional and behavioural economics, which is understandable when his aim is taken into consideration. By so doing, Schmid not only shows complementarity of those two trends, but his approach, despite some weaknesses, could be treated also as a prolegomena to the synthesis of institutional and behavio

The rhetorical approach to the methodology of economics is usually considered to be radical. In fact, compared with a strictly modernist orthodoxy, demand attention almost exclusively on the quality of the argumentation, would mean quite far-reaching change in the perception of economics as a science. However, if we consider the possibility of applying constructivist approach to methodological discourse in economics (and this attempt has been made to this Article), it may be that the issues previously taken for granted (such as the formation of the theory and its relationship to economic reality) will be required to profound redefinition.

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to overview the research on inequalities in economics. The paper is based on mainstream and heterodox economic theories and approaches addressing inequality and its economic interdependence. Methodology: Due to its positive and normative nature, inequality is a complex concept that eludes precise definition. The available application of mainstream and heterodox approach to study inequality and its economic interdependence allows for the identification of various components of inequality. Classifications that fall within the mainstream economics especially reveal less numerous and often even different types of inequalities compared to heterodox approaches. Moreover, what determines within-country inequality is the number of driving forces related to the factual and regulatory sphere of an economy. Findings: This study does not exhaust the general debate over inequality in economics. The question remains about the state of research dedicated to the outcomes of inequality, for instance, perceived in its dynamic and historical perspective. Moreover, there emerges a need to overview the theoretical and empirical research dedicated to inequality in terms of not only its driving forces but also economic outcomes.

Opis:
In this paper we present the economics imperialism as an attempt to unify social sciences to the theory of economics. We show a lot of definitions of this phenomenon which are proposed in literature, but we point out that to some extent all highlight the issues of crossing of traditional boundaries of economics. Therefore, the definitions often accentuate an aggressive character of this process. In the next step, we present factors which allowed the emergence of the economics imperialism, such as the definition of economics proposed by Robbins, definitions of other social sciences and political factors. However, in the opinion of lot of researchers it was the unification of the science idea, as one of the “purest” goals of the scientific theorizing which was the most important. The influence of the last factor was reinforced also by the failure in finding of microfundaments of macroeconomics, that means internal unification of the economics. Trying to find an evidence of their advantage over heterodox schools, orthodox economists using tools, assumptions and methods which were characterisitc for them, started to analyse different non-market behaviours of people. We also distinguish two criteria of economics imperialism division. The first criterion concerns the subject of research or, in other words, a level of an analysis, so we distinguish the “into” and the “outside” economics imperialism. The aim of the “into” economics imperialism is to depart from traditional economic units and the analysis what these units are composed of and how they function, whereas the “outside” imperialism studies the phenomena of making decisions, which are not directly related to formal markets. The second criterion distinguishes the economics imperialism on the basis of methodologies. The old economics imperialism (the name of which arises from the fact that it was chronologically first, but this type of research is being continued) uses a methodology of the neoclassical economics, with the assumption of stability of preferences or effectiveness and market balance. Thus all areas of life are analysed as if they were markets. The main representative is G.S. Becker, who analyzed law this way. On the other hand the new economics imperialism is related to new institutional economics and its methodological approach. Thus, different behaviours of people are treated as a response to imperfections of markets. The main advocate of this approach is B. Fine. In the last part of the work we show that despite some success of economics imperialism such as finding new correlations or explaining some behaviours, it is criticised. Most of the criticism is related to the lack of satisfying the conditions of reasonable unification of science according to which first, a new, unified theory should explain all problems, which are explained by earlier theories and, second, phenomena which are discussed by this theory should result from the impact of the same real factors on them. Thus, t

Then, ideas common for economics and the ethics of space, which can be a basis for integrating their issues, will be identified and characterized. Finally, the author tries to present the consequences which may result from such an integration, both for the economy as a science and as a practice of everyday life.

In the article the author intends to provide a selective, yet fairly comprehensive review of historical roots and trends of Institutional Economics. Institutional Economics is not an integrated theory based on a set of common hypotheses, but rather a combination of various elements coming from different traditions and different social sciences. However, despite diversity there is a central tenet of both the 'old' and the 'new' institutionalism: that institutions matter in shaping economic performance and economic behavior. Economic processes do not take place outside of the historical or social context; they take place within given institutions. The author attempts to classifying different views concerning these issues and explain how institutional economics relates to neoclassical economics and other social sciences.

The paper attempts to reconstruct the main arguments for the restriction of economic freedom formulated at the beginning of the 20th century. According to the accepted thesis, the arguments presented by J.M. Keynes are primarily ethical and normative. It focuses on searching new institutional solutions that can gain broad social approval.

The article addresses the issue of ethics in business. The positive attitude to ethics declared by some liberal economists confronts business units with new dilemmas. The economic conflicts, wars, and pandemic crisis treated as a challenge for economic recovery highlight the ethical side of choices. In this way, individualistic rationality is confronted with multilateral benefits. The relation between ethical norms and economic criteria considers the point of view respecting human participation in the process of managing a business. As a consequence, ignorance of ethics in business as a concept of applied ethics, which means ethical relativism, leads man to a crisis of values depriving the system of the liberal economy of a sense of orientation and thus hindering the search for rational solutions.Ethics introduces a personalistic dimension to economic considerations associated with an individual responsibility coming from respect for human values and dignity. In the social aspect, compliance with ethics is acondition of mutual acceptance, cooperation, and bonding within the community. Ultimately, the place of ethics in economics is a consequence of the relationship of economics with humans and, at the same time, the attitude of individuals to ethics. Paying more attention to ethical issues serves the humanisation of economic relations, displaces business egotism, and awakens the tendency to cooperate by seeking the common good.

Research background: The dynamics of the art market are usually presented in terms of price fluctuations, price indexes and financial returns. This paper proposes the value and volume approach, which has not been considered in an aggregative way for a long time in the economic literature. Purpose of the article: The aim of the paper is to present changes in the global art market in the period 2002-2015. The results of dynamic analysis of the art market are presented, including two approaches: value of transactions and volume of transactions. The impact of the global crisis on the art market is considered. Methods: In order to present the changes on the global art market, statistical indexes of dynamics (single base and chain indexes) are used. Moreover, trend analyses have been conducted for the value and volume of transactions on the art market. The sources of data on the global art market are from Artprice, ArtTactic, and TEFAF (The European Fine Art Foundation). Findings & Value added: In the analysed period of 2002-2015, sales on the global art market generally increased. The value and volume of sales peaked in 2007 and 2014. The art market was considerably affected by the economic recession in 2009, but in the next year it recovered. The trend analyses allow the changes on the market to be described by means of mathematical functions, and the countries with the largest share in the global art market can be identified. Particular attention has been paid to the existence of a triad on the art market consisting of Europe, the USA and China. It is noteworthy that Europe and the USA have rapidly lost market share to China.

The concept of Islamic economics as a coherent economic and financial system basically does not exist. Some authors take it, however, for simplicity, under-standing by this description any entities and legal regulations, mainly in the financial markets, driven – either declaratively or in fact – on the principles derived from religious precepts of Islam. The emphasis is put on so-called inter-est-free banking, which involves the concept of usury (riba). By referring to the essence of Islamic economics, the author shows the dif-ferences and similarities between "interest-free" Islamic banking and conven-tional banking (Western-style). It turns out that the differences are almost exclu-sively at the level of declarations and similarities that arise from attempts to circumvent religious regulations, as in the riba, are much more numerous than it might seem. They result from the need to fuse Islamic finances with global fi-nancial markets, which at least at the point of contact eliminates the capability of maintaining the autonomy of the local banking system. In addition, interest-free Islamic banking development meets an obstacle in the shape of the market pres-ence of conventional banks, which are its natural ideological competition. Thus, although the Islamic Development Bank estimates the size of the market of the Islamic system of financial services in 2015 at between 2 to 8 trillion dollars, one seems to be entitled to conclude that, in practice, between Islamic economics and capitalist economies of the West, at least in terms of banking services, the dif-ferences are purely semantic, and both Western and Islamic deposit, credit and investment products are in fact identical.

One of the tasks assigned to mainstream economists is to legitimize the significance of unemployment. This paper aims to reconstruct the evolution of their approaches from the theoretical impossibility asserted by Pigou to the recognition of involuntary unemployment by Keynes and eventually to different versions of the natural unemployment rate. The unemployment rate had become an instrument for fine-tuning of the economy, but it no longer fulfills this role. It is then the whole dominant macroeconomics that is shaken to its foundations. But this crisis might help to return to expansionary fiscal policies (a Green New Deal) and to the Job Guarantee, thus echoing Keynes’ question: ‘There is work to do; there are men to do it. Why not bring them together?’

In order to explicate this hypothesis in detail, we use the framework of identity economics.

Opis:
The article presents key assumptions of the research paradigm of the Austrian School of Economics (ASE), pointing to their logical cohesion and interdependence, and then highlights the key differences between ASE and Keynesian economics and monetarism. The article starts with methodological considerations; in ASE approach economics is praxeology, a science of purposeful human action, and methodological individualism – looking at economic actions from the point of view of the acting man – is a basic feature of the Austrian method. The axiom of purposeful action is extended using verbal deduction, which allows to build a whole system of economic statements. The ASE approach to economic goods, and their role in the economic system is highlighted then, which leads to the conclusion that in a free, unhampered market economy the key determinant of allocation of resources and income in the economy are decisions of the consumer. The key elements of the Mises monetary theory are then discussed, including the regulatory role of interest rate. These considerations lead to displaying of mechanics of Austrian Business Cycle Theory (ABCT), where the key driving force behind business fluctuations are interventions into the regulatory mechanism of interest rate via credit expansion. The following part of the text highlights the key similarities and differences between ASE and economics of Keynes and monetarism. The key critique of ASE vs. Keynes’ theory regards the interest rate mechanism (concept of liquidity preference), which – in his theory - was devoid of its role of intertemporal coordination. Another point of critique is too high a level of aggregation (of economic data), which – according to Hayek (as well as many other members of ASE) does not allow to see critically important interdependencies in economic phenomena. The critique of monetarism is based on Bellante and Garrison, who pointed to numerous similarities between the two approaches, which stem from putting monetary considerations in the center of attention. When it comes to the differences, monetarism puts different mechanism of monetary impulse’s impact on the economy. It is hard for conclusive, quantitative verdict on the merits of these methodologies, due to lack of relevant statistical data. The article concludes with pointing out to the elements of ASE paradigm that could be especially interesting in the context of the current economic crisis, as well as in the context of crisis in ”mainstream” economic theory. According to the author of this article, methodological individualism of ASE could be a very interesting concept. One example of that could be the development of “economics of complexity”, which perceives acting agents in a way which is very similar to ASE, and at the same time shares several other key methodological assumptions.

Regulations of new CAP reforms moving from product to producer support and now to a more land based approach. This is in response to the challenges facing the sector, many of which are driven by factors that are external to agriculture. These have been identified as economic, environmental and territorial. To achieve these long-term goals, the existing CAP instruments had to be adapted. The reform therefore focused on the operational objectives of delivering more effective policy instruments, designed to improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and its sustainability over the long term. Accordingly there is a great need to restructure the formal crop rotation and to introduce new alternative crops as food industrial crops and vegetables. Both cases have high invested special asset and manual work requirement. This paper as a case study gives an analysis of oil pumpkin seed production, which serves as an example of economic and technological planning a formal crop production farm over 100 hectares. The new crop was introduced as a possibility to face with diversification under the new CAP regime of greening. The economic analysis covers five years of production and financial data on the basis of the given crop rotation.

The article presents the current state of evolutionary economics against the backdrop of changes related to the potential use of the achievements of other social sciences, in particular psychology, as well as dynamically developing neuroscience. The article suggests a synthesis of evolutionary and behavioural economics concepts as a logical consequence of evolutionary cooperation processes in social sciences. Interdisciplinary initiatives create new perspectives on generation synergy effects for all participants. Contemporary evolutionary economists present the nature of ongoing innovation-driven economic change as a long evolutionary process. The main creator of the econosphere as a global system is a man–entrepreneur who is also the result of evolutionary processes. For this reason evolutionary economics should take into account the results of behavioural economics’ research based on modern psychology and neuroscience. The cornerstone of evolutionary and behavioural economics synthesis are the theories of Adam Smith which should be regarded as his holistic intellectual heritage.

Opis:
The article focuses on the problem of the dialogical dimension of exchange. The author treats the exchange as a unit of analysis more relevant to social science than the decision around which mainstream economics is concentrated. The article has two goals. Firstly, it is an attempt to draw attention to the negative function of modern economics, which focuses on decisions and the construction of depersonalized, holistic theoretical structures and loses its proper social dimension from view. Secondly, it is an attempt to look at the exchange of personalities as a kind of interpersonal relations and to show its dialogical character, by referring to the philosophy of E. Lévinas. Starting from the personalist economics as a theory of the duty of action due to the development of the person, the author shows the exchange as a form of dialogue in which mutual responsibility for each other has its expression and which thus has a communityforming character. It indicates the exchange as an important condition for the development of the person.

This article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the functioning of special economic zones in Aqaba, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Ukraine. The work gives the concept and classification of the Free trade zones (FTZ), reflects the goals of creating zones and their purpose. The main goal of the work is to study the features of FTZs in Jordan and Ukraine and determine what experience Ukraine can gain from Jordan to optimize the work of the Ukrainian FTZs. During the research we grounded that Ukraine has essential resource opportunities, such as: natural resources, working capital, and geographical location compared to Jordan, which despite of all the obstacles could implement ASEZ and gradually improve its economy. Jordanian experience proves that the desire of a strong Leader and his loyal team, despite of the concentration of hot points all around the borders, unstable political relationship with its neighbors, high refugees inflow definitely led to the deterioration of economic situation in the country. A large stock of foreign debt, insufficient supplies of water, oil, and other natural resources, high level of unemployment – succeeded in its effective implementation of ASEZ and overcame all the severities. Thus, hopefully this research might inspire the Ukrainian leaders to promote the development of Ukrainian FTZs in order to prosper our economy and improve the standard of living.

The main aim of my article is indicating the unsolved research problems connected to causation in the area of the philosophy of economics. First, I briefly define causation and discuss two most notable approaches, i.e. the realist theory of causation and the instrumentalist theory of causation. Second, I review the most recent researches focused on the problem of causation in economics. Third, I discuss a number of case studies. On the grounds of comparison of the research practice of economists and the current issues undertaken by the philosophers of economics, I conclude that there is a gap between the research practice and the normative methodological analyses and indicate the research questions that need to be answered.

The article was written based on the meta-analysis of the books and scientific papers on the subject, as well as well-being and welfare measurement reports. The study shows that there is a very wide range of theories and concepts related to well-being which are sometimes exceptive. The most important conclusion from the study is that the correlation between welfare and well-being represented respectively by GDP and HDI is very strong, while the correlation between welfare and life satisfaction as well as well-being and subjective well-being are negligible.

The purpose of this article is to identify potential sources of failure of the development of economics and new institutional economics in solving problems of economic development, and to present arguments that development economists use the simplified concept of institutions. For this reason they recommend economic policies that do not include the complexity of the process of institutional change. The first part of the article is devoted to outline the current state of research on economic development in the new institutional economics. The elements of the institutional theory of economic change are presented here. The second part presents the impact of the new institutional economics on dominant discourse on economic development, and how the development consensus has evolved. The new consensus has strong institutional character, but in fact, this institutional analysis is quite different from the analysis of the new institutional economics. The third part of the article shows how development economists use institutional analysis in their research. Most of them use the simplified concept of institutions. The economics policy, that they recommend, assumes that institutions could be easily changed, if the local specificities were taken into account. Policy makers want clear guidelines that they could use in practice. New institutional economists often indicate that the process of economic development is complex and, therefore, economic policy would probably not be effective. Moreover there is no workable general theory of institutions available to us. Therefore, it seems that in the case of solving problems of economic development, we should devote less attention to the general theory, and focus more on institutional microanalysis. In this way, it may be easier to create guidelines for a successful economic policy.

Also the understanding of social economy as such determines the chaos. Additionally, divergences in paradigms where researchers situate their research projects as well as variety and scarcity of available data on SE in the literature are important here. Most of all definitional debate of what entrepreneurship and so SE is determine the existing difficulties. We resume the discussion by returning to the interdisciplinary nature of the field and propose for further studies to be set in the area of management sciences.

In specially, we brifly review a wide and latest range of academic and industry literature in order to highlight the main factors and uncertainties of the future costs of PV. Our main results are that the LCOE in the photovoltaic industry metrics can be misgiving and therefore be applied with wariness, as we require careful declaration and clarity.

Opis:
The article analyzes the possibility of adopting trend estimation model to predict the average selling price of timber (CGUS). The study used information about the average selling prices of timber in chosen periods (2006-2017). The data concerning the actual CGUS was used to create a trend estimation model. The models and CGUS predictions were conducted based on three different time series encompassing 5-year periods. The predicted (CGUS) trend estimation in particular years was requested based on extrapolation, which exceeded the accepted set of information used in the study to create a trend estimation model. On the basis of the conducted study it was ascertained that the method of modeling linear trend estimation should be adopted in the price prediction process. The error assessment with which the linear function formulas are burdened, it was noticed that the value of the coefficient of residual variation was between 4.40% and 7.82%. It was also noticed that the linear modeling of CGUS trend estimation, despite unfavorable values of coefficient of determination and convergence, to some extent, can be viewed as an assistance tool in the decisionmaking process in the scope of predicting the height of the analyzed price. This view was supported by the achieved predictions which were verified with the actual prices of timber. The price difference between the actual and the predicted one was between -1.59 PLN to 2.27 PLN, and in relative terms the predictive error was between 0.83 to 1.15%. In our opinion the presented research process can constitute a reference point as a comparative element to verify the results for other, new price prediction models. The process of modeling timber prices should be extended by other predicators which are connected with forest market chain.

In the article we discuss the importance of the real estate related instruments used by local government to attract investment and stimulate local economic development. The article discusses economic literature related to public economics at the local government level, with the special emphasis put on the link between urban and real estate economics and development. In the empirical part of the paper, we analyze the results of the survey conducted at the local government level in Poland (Malopolska). There are two major research objectives: (1) to identify the scope of the real estate economic instruments used by the communes as part of their development policies’ strategies; (2) to examine the coexistence of certain types of instruments as part of the commune development strategies. To find relevant answers, both multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis are applied. Additionally, we discuss whether there are evidence of mimicking behavior in local development policies.

The intention of this paper is to trace links between welfare economics and the concept of welfare state. We show that welfare of man, according to Vilfredo Pareto and Arthur Cecil Pigou, was a much wider notion than just economic one. It seems that, however, economists had chosen to follow the Pareto optimum principle in their research. It was also not welfare economics that triggered the construction of welfare states, but ideas and political motives. Yet nowadays the pursuit of efficacy and innovations changes the way that welfare policies are perceived. The approach becomes more instrumental instead of humane. It follows the Pareto improvement principle leaving distributional aspects to inconsequential considerations. It stands thus with clear relation to the concepts of welfare economics, but gradually detaches from the idea of human welfare.

The aim of this article is to point to the unsolved research problems connected to causation in the philosophy of economics. First, the paper defines causation and discusses two notable approaches, i.e. the realist theory of causation and the instrumentalist theory of causation. Second, it offers a review the current research activity focusing on the problem of causation in economics. Third, it discusses several case studies. On the grounds of comparison of the research practice of economists and the current issues undertaken by the philosophers of economics, the paper concludes that there is a gap between the research practice and the normative methodological analyses and indicate the research questions that need to be addressed.

Cost of sick absence is incurred by both enterprises and the society. According to Eurostat, 26% of sick absences result from work-related health problems. However, Polish enterprises are not aware of the economic consequences of work-related absence and, consequently, they do not incorporate absence issues in activities aimed at improving OSH management systems. This article touches on the cost of work-related absence incurred by enterprises and points to examples of companies that by managing that absence have obtained economic benefits.

Opis:
The article is an attempt at an interdisciplinary look at time. The concept of time is equivocal, and thus interpreted differently by various sciences. The presentation of time issue starts with the domain of economics, by describing time by means of using economic categories such as market, supply, demand, value, price, profit and loss. The economic analysis is concentrated around a question how much time costs, and how much free time costs. Further on the issue is presented from a philosophical perspective, followed by theological concepts of time. They all are linked by a reference to Christian understanding of time based on the person of Jesus Christ, who became “the fullness of time” and the centre of the history. The interdisciplinary analysis enables looking at time as an assignment, the taking of which by a man in his earthly life makes him open to the eternity.

The author of article proves that in the era of the globalization the institutional order of national economy is influenced by the distorted competition which results in domination of the managers and technicians of great corporations. It is their businesses that define the economic policy. In the world of asymmetric information, oligopolistic competition, political market and progressive commercialization of the axiological sphere the rules of thinking and acting are merely reduced to the strategy of self-advantage. This situation results in ineffective institutional protection at the global, regional and national levels. To remove social inequalities effectively it is necessary to have control over the dominating groups in society and to develop coherent norms of institutional protection. There is also a need for the development of human capital and its modernization as a common notion of moral values of society and the individual.

Stanisław Głąbiński
Opis:
Stanisław Głąbiński (1862–1941) professor at the Lvov University, the author of a two volume work entitled „National economics” is a representative of the historical-national trend in Polish economics. The subject matter of his concept of national economics is the national economy which is a higher rank entity, encompassing all economic entities in the country that are related materially and spiritually. Bonds that link individuals into a higher rank entity, i.e. a nation, are reflected in the term ‘social resources’. Głąbiński understands them as moral and material heritage of past generations that influences attitudes of the contemporary generation. He divides them into moral and material resources, and especially emphasizes the importance of the former ones. In the concept of moral resources, Głąbiński included his claims concerning the whole socio-ethical conditions of economic processes. He appreciated the influence exerted by the changes in the ethical viewpoint of the society on the economic activity as well as on the shaping of the sense of duty towards the whole society. Special emphasis placed in Głąbiński’s economic theory on the role of ethical motives undoubtedly springs from the influence exerted by the German historical school and, in particular, by Bruno Hildebrand. It also is a result of the effect of Polish economic thought including in particular the views of Fryderyk Skarbek and Józef Supiński. According to Głąbiński, the most important constituent element of material resources was finance, understood by him as stocks of economic goods.

Twierdzenia te zostały zilustrowane analizą poglądów najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli nauki ekonomii w jej historycznym rozwoju (Smith, Marks, Keynes) oraz odwołaniem do poglądów Grzegorza W. Kołodki w ramach tzw. nowego pragmatyzmu.
The author criticizes the traditional division between positive and normative economics. The author claims that real subject of economics is not an enigmatic economy, but different, specific economic systems and comparing of these systems combines the descriptive and the normative approach. Consequently, the author concludes that the normative statements that are rejected by the orthodox economics, are its natural, immanent parts. These claims have been illustrated by the analysis of the views of the most eminent representatives of economic science in the history (Smith, Marx, Keynes) and by the reference to Kolodko’s new pragmatism.

This paper aims to highlight the absolute competitiveness between positive and normative economics. The article presents this controversy as a pretext to analyse a specific field of operation of ecological economics. The normative approach in the ecological economics is needed in the complex age of increasing deficits and confronting threats to biological and social sustainability. Reliable data from biology, physics, chemistry and medicine inform us what is dangerous. They also suggest directions of changes and their necessary scale. The normative approach, based on the guidelines from the basic natural sciences, allows for the creation of economic theories and models and then derives specific, quantitative premises for actions taken in the economy. The thesis of this article boils down to the statement that the effective involvement of ecological economics in the theoretical and practical solving of sustainable development problems is possible only through the use of the normative approach.

Economics needs psychology. It is impossible to explain social and economic phenomena on the basis of typical economic models. Economics has opened to social sciences and thus modified its own test methods and language, and extended the research area. As a result of the cooperation between economics and psychology, numerous scientific subdisciplines were formed, and economic models and theories developed new meanings and applications. Yet, not every interdisciplinary research is cognitively fertile for economics. What economics risks is losing its own scientific identity and sight of its subject of research. The purpose of the paper is to analyse the opportunities and threats that appear in the scope of research done and actions taken in economics and psychology.
Ekonomia potrzebuje psychologii. W wyniku kooperacji ekonomii i psychologii powstały liczne dyscypliny naukowe „z pogranicza” (subdyscypliny), a modele i teorie ekonomiczne zyskały nowe znaczenie i zastosowanie.

The purpose of the work is the reference to the classical economics theory as the basis of economic liberalism in the present globalisation conditions, occurrence of global financial crisis, wide-spread technological progress, information technology and productive innovations, and deepening of social inequalities. Among the economics classicists whose achievements are analysed in reference to the contemporary world and contemporary economy the following ought to be named: Adam Smith, Bernand de Mondeville, David Ricardo, Thomas Malthus, Jean Baptiste Say, Henri se Saint Simon, Stuart Mill, Pierre Proudhon and Carl Marks. The attention was paid to the division of classical economics into liberal and radical fractions and distinguishing different economic schools in reference to specific factors or criteria such as: market, range of possible regulations or range of subjectivism of presented concepts.

Opis:
Contemporary research exploring the Fair Trade movement does not provide a clear answer whether the overall impact of Fair Trade is positive or negative and what are the real motives of Fair Trade consumers. In the paper we investigate whether the assumptions of selected heterodox schools (feminist, ecological and humanist) fit better to the reality of the Fair Trade movement than those of the neoclassical theory. Although ‘better fitness’ does not necessarily mean ‘better explanation’, the mismatch with reality may constitute an obstacle in identifying a crucial aspect of the researched phenomenon (i.e. Fair Trade), harming explanation of its existence and development.
W artykule sprawdzamy, czy założenia wybranych szkół heterodoksyjnych (feministycznej, ekologicznej i humanistycznej) lepiej pasują do rzeczywistości ruchu Fair Trade niż założenia teorii neoklasycznej. Chociaż „lepsza kondycja” niekoniecznie oznacza „lepsze wyjaśnienie”, niezgodność z rzeczywistością może stanowić przeszkodę w identyfikacji kluczowego aspektu badanego zjawiska (tj. Sprawiedliwego handlu), szkodząc wyjaśnieniu jego istnienia i rozwoju.

The purpose of the paper is to analyse the issue of a test method in economics. It calls for the necessity of adopting a methodological approach that will be flexible and cognitively inspiring, which is a prerequisite to establishing the foundations for economics, its development and effectiveness in clarifying social and economic phenomena. Currently believed to be a complex (both theoretical and empirical), and inductive-deductive science, economics fails to possess binding methodological arrangements. Therefore, when looking for good solutions, scholars propose universal pluralism, which lets them expand the research apparatus within defined, yet not tightly logical structures.

In this paper we have given a short account of the shortfalls of neoclassical economics, far removed from Aristotelian political economics, which was considered by him as the art of household management. The objective of it was a flourishing life or the Good Life. The main aim of humankind is the development of a desirable way of living and sustaining the quality of life, also for future generations. In order to achieve that goal, people created a number of institutions to facilitate achieving that end. All institutions, as they are devised for human purposes, cannot be outside human control, they should serve society. In the paper it is argued that the economy, as one of the social institutions, should play a particular role in enhancing human and non-human well-being. The paper contains the proposal of a unified system of measuring institutional and eco-system performance. Moreover, it is argued that among many proposals for the development of new proposals for studying economic matters, ecological economics is the most suitable for researching into the quality of life.

Opis:
Despite the conclusions from the contemporary philosophy of science, many economists cherish the ideal of positive science. Therefore, value-free economics is still the central paradigm in economics. The first aim of the paper is to investigate economics’ axiomatic assumptions from an epistemological perspective. The critical analysis of the literature shows that the positive-normative dichotomy is exaggerated. Moreover, value-free economics is based on normative foundations that have a negative impact on individuals and society. The paper’s second aim is to show that economics’ normativity is not a problem because the discussion concerning values is possible and unavoidable. In this context, Weber and other methodologists are investigated. The conclusion of the paper is that science can thrive without strict methodological rules thanks to institutional mechanisms. Therefore, economists could learn from artists who accept the world without absolute rules. This perspective opens the possibility for methodological pluralism and normative approaches.

Opis:
Islam as both religion and socioeconomic system is based on five main pillars, that is – five basic acts considered mandatory by Muslims, summarized in the hadith of Gabriel. One of them is zakāt (almsgiving), i.e. giving 2.5% of one’s wealth to the poor and needy. In contrary to Christian religion, where question of charity is rather of a voluntary matter, the role of zakāt in Islam is much more rigidly described. Almsgiving is considered as a duty of a pious Muslim towards the poor. Thus in Islamic economy, strongly based on Islam principles given by Allah to Muhammad, zakāt is imposed by law and is not considered a charity but duty rather. The notion of zakāt is mentioned in Qur-an over a 100 times, solely or in conjunction with other commandments. On a basis that zakāt is to be paid as a part of total wealth exceeding given minimum wealth (nisab) it is then justifiable to say that zakāt is principally a tax. A role of this essay is to shed some light on a utilisation and role of zakāt in Islamic economies in socioeconomic context, with an example of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where in 1980 the Zakāt Ordinance was imposed. The concept of zakāt is present in many Islamic countries, but its nature varies, being dependent from the interpretation of religious law in a given country. Everywhere though, its social role as an important tool maintaining social justice is strongly expressed. Of course zakāt system also has its drawbacks and is subjected to much criticism. The article aims to present both advantages and negative aspects of zakāt.

Nowadays, no one could question the fact that in the post-communist countries the laws of economics work in the same way as in the countries in which the communist system has never prevailed. Yet the long-term results of a strategy implemented in the 1990s for the economic transformation, for social life have become visible just now which means that a formulation of a diagnosis encompassing the entirety of the results of “the shock” transformation for the individual aspects of social life is possible only now. From this point of view, we are still living in the period which one can recognise for the great economic experiment.

Subject and purpose of work: This work presents an economic theory of religion. Its aim is to gain insight into one of the modern concepts of religion in the perspective of secularisation. Materials and methods: While describing the essence of this theory, apart from personal views, also other opinions of contemporary sociologists of religion were used. Results: This study highlighted the fact that the presented concept has a diverse range of references and interprets religion in a specific way. It is a concept competing against the secularisation thesis, and its essence is in direct application of the rational choice theory and exchange theory. Conclusions: Approaching religion only through the formula of supply, significantly reduces the field of interpretation and does not explain all the mechanisms of religious changes in the contemporary world.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Praca przedstawia ekonomiczną teorię religii.

The purpose of this contribution is to shed some light on the inter-relationships between ethics and economics in Islamic religion, and mainly to assert that ethics constitute endogenous phenomena in Islamic economics. In Islam, economic behaviours and transactions cannot be separated from ethics and values. The Islamic principles are intended to govern, direct and control human beings’ behaviours in their daily economic lives. They are aimed at helping people to distinguish between good and bad things while they do any economic activity. It is worth noting that the moral values in Islamic economics are derived from the main sources of Islam namely: the Quran (the holy book of Islamic religion) and Sunnah (the teachings and behaviours of the prophet of Islam: Muhammad PBUH 570-632 AD). Both of them represent the principal pillars of Shariah (Islamic laws and guidelines), which is seen by Muslims as the proper way to happiness, not only in economic life but in all aspects of life.

The high social capital favours, as matter of fact, development of entrepreneurship, because it allows for more effective realisation of the aims of enterprises and achieving competitive advantage by them. Admittedly, economic growth itself is also possible with a comparatively low level of the social capital, however, in the long-term perspective the low level of the social capital works as a hampering factor. Also, factors affecting development of entrepreneurship do not subject to a quantitative formulation. In the past, the conclusion was formulated, on the basis of the general cultural differences among societies, that some societies are not capable of achieving intensive economic development in the conditions of the modern economy.

The research paper is an attempt to prove that the so-far perception of key notions providing a basis for majority of theories is not in line with empirical observations. The perception is neither gained by means of drawing logical conclusions from more general theories. Thus, the above has an impact on both theory of economics and economic policy. Defining welfare and value basing –to a large extent- on observations and tracing their roots to welfare theories might result in a better link between theory of economics and economic policy. Thus, it could help to develop a more effective theory of development, so badly needed in the time of the current crisis and looming civilisation catastrophe.

Contemporary economics is dominated by logical positivism, a methodology that emphasizes empirical validation of theories but excludes normative evaluation. With the growing socialist movement in the USA, especially among the millennials, who are fixated on moral issues of justice and equality, positive economics is alienated from addressing the normative challenges of socialism. There are, however, basic normative principles from Preclassical thought which can be used to contest socialist moral claims, particularly in economics education.

Artykuł podkreśla tendencję teorii ekonomii w kierunku jednowymiarowych i relatywistycznych koncepcji dobra wspólnego oraz sugeruje poszukiwanie jednocześnie dwuwymiarowych i uniwersalistycznych ekonomicznych idei dobra wspólnego.
The main purpose of the article is to present compare and evaluate contemporary concepts of the common good formulated by economists in relation to the understanding of the common good by Popes John Paul II and Francis. This study, therefore, aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on the common good by presenting an interdisciplinary perspective integrating the traditions of Catholic social teaching with contemporary economic concepts, thereby enriching the understanding of the category of the common good in economic theory. The article highlights the tendency of economic theory towards one-dimensional and relativistic concepts of the common good and suggests the search for simultaneously two-dimensional and universalistic economic ideas of the common good. It recognizes the achievements of Popes John Paul II and Francis in deepening the understanding of the category of the common good and assumes that this teaching can serve as a research inspiration for economists. The work also shows how the category of the common good prompts a re-evaluation and enables modification of the basic assumptions of economic theory, such as homo oeconomicus or the understanding of rationality.

The paper is divided into three parts devoted to the following: the place of economics among the sciences; the views of selected Polish economists on the formalization (mathematization) of economics; and the formal (mathematical) scientific procedures used in economics today along with departures from these procedure and the potential consequences of such departures. After the first two parts of the paper, characterized as reviews, the third presents a very general scheme of the mathematical approach to economic problems as well as departures from this scheme. The problems of departures can be divided into two groups: the first being the mathematization of problems that do not need such an approach, the passive assumption of schemes appropriate for other sciences, the passive usage of various algorithms and the various computer programs used. Secondly, the paper discusses the potential consequences of such departures on the results of scientific research.

The paper presents arguments in favour not only of the possibility but also necessity of the exploration of workaholism by economists. On the one hand, effective human capital management proves that workaholism has common grounds with such fields of interest of psychological economics (the faculty of behavioural economics) as: irrational behaviour, well-being and wealth, economic socialization, social responsibility of business. On the other hand it proves that workaholism is closely connected to the effective management of human capital (on both the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels) due to its: influence on the quality and value of the capital as well as due to the possibility of reducing this influence, connecting it with new forms of employment and more flexible hours as well as the so-called time compression - and the relations with functions ascribed to time off work.

It is clear that humanbeings has destroyed the nature since the last quarter of the 19 th Century with start of industrial revaluation .In the beginning of the 21st century we faced extraordinary natural disasters as well as rainfall and temperature changes, rapid ice melting in different part of the world. All these mostly have occurred under the effect of climate change and forced a paradigm shift from demand or supply oriented harsh water development to use current water resources as efficient as possible. This logical approach is getting larger and larger as the years go by. Therefore near future water management concept will shift from building new and more water supply systems to better operating existing ones. The variation of water values in time and space has increasingly motivated efforts to address water scarcity and reduce water conflicts. Hydro-economic models represent spatially distributed water resource systems, infrastructure, management options and economic values in an integrated manner. In these tools water allocations and management are either driven by the economic value of water or economically evaluated to provide policy insights and reveal opportunities for better management. A central concept is that water demands are not fixed requirements but rather functions where quantities of water use at different times have varying total and marginal economic values. The 2015 World Economic Forum Global Risks Report ranked water as the number one risk factor. All these other sources of stress on water systems will be affected and/or exacerbated by climate change. This paper reviews the vital role of Hydro-Economics concept in a sustainable water management that will implement full cost recovery policy under the effect of climate change. It also focuses on the growing problems of allocation of water resources among competitive uses

Relations between the United States of America and China are marked by cooperation and rivalry in terms of the qualitative change of security structures in the global dimension in the 21st century, which translates into political, social and, above all, economic issues, to which the logic of conflict between Washington and Beijing is closely related. China is a global economic superpower and is able to economically challenge the U.S., which has political consequences in terms of a possible change of leadership in the international context, towards a relative weakening of the U.S. position and a significant strengthening of the status of China, which is guided by the philosophy of Confucianism and the concept of the “long march” for dominance in the modern world, which – as economic determinants show – is very successful, given the phenomenon of its expansion in Asia, Africa and South America. The main intention and purpose of this paper are to present the complex topic of security structures in the global dimension, indicating the wide range of multifaceted U.S.-Chinese rivalry, attempting to diagnose the international situation and the formation of a specific new dimension of security since the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries (until 2019), determining the economy, politics and society.

Valuation of forests and their components is a significant problem, both for science and practice. At present, in many countries, the market of forest property is limited. As a result, no conclusions may be inferred on the forest value based on the information on forest purchase and sale transactions. In this situation, we apply static methods of forest valuation. The problem of forest statics has been discussed for years (e.g., Brukas et al. 2001; Chang 1983, 2001; Dieter 2001; Hartman 1976; Manley and Bare 2001; Mohring 2001; Zhang 2001; Viitala 2016). Static methods of forest valuation are well known. In the construction of the proposed mathematical formula (Eq. 6), the Faustmann theory was applied, concerning the economic equilibrium in forestry. Numerous modifications of his equation for economic equilibrium were used to develop, for example, an income method for forest valuation based on discounting the final value or prolongation of initial value. The forest interest rate is a key element in these equations. At present, there are no procedures for the establishment of this interest rate, which would be generally accepted by the scientific community. Therefore, the article presents and discusses selected concepts for determining the forest interest rate.

Economics as a science on economic activity has built an assumption about the nature of economizing man over many decades. Homo oeconomicus model is not “the only right”. It has been a subject to modifications extending between the two approaches of research: psychologism and anti-psychologism. In the last few decades, psychology has expanded its scope of research on economic behavior. The aim of this study is to validate by methods of incomplete induction, if the assumption of rationality of economizing man corresponds to the real states of the human mind and cognitive capabilities. On the basis of these studies the economic psychology and behavioral economics emerged. Researchers in these areas oppose inductive method to hypothetico-deductive research program of mainstream economics on the basis of observations of irrational behavior of economizing man. The purpose of this article is, first, an overview of trends: the psychological and antipsychological in the theoretical development of the economics and, secondly, to show the weaknesses and threats of psychologism in economics and economic psychology. The paper discusses the psychological associations of Adam Smith and John Stuart Mill, who shaped the standard of classical economics. Then it discusses the shift towards logical empiricism and rationality postulate of Karl Popper. This turn shaped the assumption of rational economizing man, which was used in the theory of general equilibrium of markets. This theory, as static and idealizational, has been criticized in the new branches of economics in which there are lifted idealization assumptions of neoclassical economics to more comprehensive explanation of economic reality. Experiments and other methods of incomplete induction are a complementary tool to raise awareness about the economic reality. The conclusions states that inductive reasoning is unreliable and there should be used the best possible explanation of intentional human actions, such as intentional explanation. In contrast, the search for causes of economic behavior in cognitive limitations poses a risk of reduction of economics as a science of social relations in economy to natural sciences.

The paper is devoted to a specific optimization problem associated with the hedging of contingent claims in continuous-time incomplete models of financial markets. Generally speaking, we place ourselves within the standard framework of the theory of continuous trading, as exposed in Harrison and Pliska [13]. Our aim is twofold. Firstly, we present a relatively concise exposition of the risk-minimizing methodology (due essentially to Follmer and Sondermann [12], Follmer and Schweizer [11] and Schweizer [33]) in a multi-dimensional continuous-time framework. Let us mention here that this approach is based on the specific kind of minimization of the additional cost associated with a hedging strategy at all times before the terminal date T. Secondly, we provide some new results which formalize some concepts introduced in Hofman et a/.[l5], in particular, the general results of the first, part are specialized to the case of multi-dimensional Ito processes. Finally, in Section 6 the general theory is illustrated by means of an example dealing with the risk-minimizing hedging of a stock index option in an incomplete framework. This example is motivated bv the work of Lamberton and Lapeyre [22] who have! solved a related, but simpler, problem of a risk-minimizing hedging under the martingale measure.

The financial and economic security of an enterprise is a complex system that includes a certain set of internal characteristics aimed to ensure the efficiency of corporate resources use in each direction of activity. The basis of the development of a complex system of financial and economic security of an enterprise should be a defined concept. Each enterprise is a system that includes different, interconnected components, which in order to ensure proper degree of protection against possible negative impacts should be considered comprehensively. The content and structure of the financial and economic security system depend on the specifics and nature of the activity of the enterprise, its potential, the markets that it operates, as well as its management. The financial and economic security system of an enterprise must be comprehensive and independent from similar systems of economic entities.

Carlyle’s relationship to the German and English Romantics has received much critical scrutiny. However, despite Carlyle close friendship with Southey, no study of the two, to my knowledge, has been undertaken. Carlyle writes meaningfully of their meetings, and his Reminiscences sketches their many encounters. Even before their first meeting, Carlyle valued Southey’s sense of the Romantic. The relationship also caused Carlyle to reflect on the struggle of great men and on the particular angst writers experience. Largely unrecognized, too, is Southey’s role in popularizing the Saint Simonians, which in turn would stage Carlyle’s commentary on them, identifying key points of correspondence to his own beliefs. Southey also caused Carlyle to understand and then to empathize with the disposition of an exhausted sage, and from Southey he derived his critique of feudal industrialism, inept governmental leadership, bankrupt culture, economic disparity, dispossessed workers, and the despised poor. Southey’s views on industrialism, market economy, and labor would receive wholesale adoption by Carlyle. Southey’s reward in all of this is how approvingly he is remembered by Carlyle, when so many of his contemporaries were disparaged. Despite a certain shyness and nervous disposition, which Carlyle considered a feminine trait, “blue blushes and red,” Southey emerges as affectionate, godly, empathetic, loyal, industrious, and chivalrous. The stuff of which he was comprised were, Carlyle felt, “things rare and worth, at once pious and true.”

This article undertakes the problem of rationality presented in works of behavioral economists. Paper is divided in three sections. In the first, there are described roots of behavioral economics, which can be mainly found in work of Herbert A. Simon, the creator of bounded rationality concept. Second part is focused on the problem of economic experiments, mainly those conducted by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky. In the last part there are described implications of those experiments to the real-world policies (such as economic or social policy). This problem is mostly considered as the idea of libertarian paternalism depicted by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein.

Nowadays, it seems that economics penetrated every single area of human life. In addition to the desire of individuals to possess material goods and an increasing number of objects, which puts them at the appropriate level of the social ladder, more and more often we deal with the phenomenon of family treatment as a part of cultural exchange. This article highlights the problem of treating children as property, commodity, which you can offer to others, in relation to children born and unborn, in the area of trade in semen, commerce adoption, trafficking in children. This situation is present mainly in poor countries, where it is considered as a tool of economic rescue for the family: intended for work work, for sale, prostitution and sent to the street to beg. At the same time the child comes to the „specific” economic investment, the profits of which parents receive in the future. Therefore, it is important to highlight the problem of „child as a commodity” in the modern literature and scientific discussions.

Development economics emerged as a separate discipline of economic science in the 1950s but it wasn’t until the 1960s and mid-1970s that it began to draw serious attention. Gradually, an extensive literature concerning economic development was built up. In the 1980s it turned out, however, that despite some successes, the economic growth in most of medium and less developed countries was not as high as expected. During the 1980s and 1990s, the so-called Washington Consensus dominated the theory and practice of economic development. This notion covered the whole range of activities that were to lead the developing countries to improved welfare and prosperity. It included strict fiscal and monetary policies, deregulation, foreign trade and capital flow liberalisation, elimination of government subsidies, moderate taxation, liberalisation of interest rates, maintaining low inflation, etc. Based on the developmental experience of over past ten years, a new paradigm of development is emerging, the elements of which can be described as follows: (1) the basic economic environment should encourage the long-term investment in (2) the economy should have a high sensitivity to market stimuli (3) human capital must complement physical capital (4) due to the fast flow and absorption of information in the rapidly changing world, the key role is played by institutions and mechanisms that jointly respond to stimuli (5) wherever market failures occur, an intervention of the state should be market-friendly 6) social equality must be guaranteed if the economic development is to take place on a sustainable basis.

The main aim of the paper is to show and examine how culture shapes human progress; in particular-how values determine economic development. The author describes culture as an axiological sphere including values, rules, customs, beliefs attitudes and worldviews that are prevalent in a given society. According to the humanistic perspective (called cultural turn), adequate values and other axiological determinants have a very positive impact on economic development of each society. The author analyses Mariano Grondona’s twenty cultural factors: religion, trust in the individual, the moral imperative, two concepts of wealth, different views of competition, two notions of Justice, the value of work, the role of Heresy, education, the importance of utility, the lesser virtues, time focus, rationality, authority, worldview, life view, salvation from or in the world, two Utopians, nature of optimism, two visions of democracy. The main thesis of the Grondona’s work is that economic development and well-being of civilization depends on choosing a progressive value system by a society. The author emphasizes that a further study must be conducted to understand and apply scientifically this model.

In this essay I would like to outline the Christian perspective on solving economic issues based on documents of the Catholic Church. The term ‘economic personalism’ appeared in literature several years ago and has been used as a proposal of a new economic model which is supposed to be a synthesis of achievements of economic sciences and Christian moral theology. Pope John Paul II is believed to be one of its precursors or even founding-fathers. We shall sum up these significant elements of papal personalism under the following heads: (1) A man is a person, namely an independent existence in material and personal, spiritual and material sense, rational and free. All these characteristics of a human being constitute a basis for his dignity and greatness; (2) A man is a free being. This means that he has to make choices between various values. Human freedom is closely related to the truth. The final objective of human freedom is love; (3) We can protect ourselves against alienation by acting and being together with others. We will avoid the danger of alienation when we make ourselves a gift for the other person and especially for God. Economic personalism develops John Paul II’s personalistic view in a creative way. Its program can be summarized by the following theses: (1) a man is the centre of economy; (2) a human being is the most important economic good; (3) work is part of the man’s calling; (4) reproducibility of goods is subordinated to the man’s integral development; (5) the right to participate constitutes inalienable human right; (6) the principle of subsidiary is an „intellectual” frame for social and economic order; (7) the market should not be absolutized; (8) solidarity with the poor and social justice constitute a basis of each economy.

Subject and purpose of work: The aim of this paper is to identify the professional expectations of the students of Economics at the Pope John Paull II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska. The paper also presents the respondents’ opinions on particularly desirable values of potential employers. Materials and methods: The research was carried out using the CAWI method in January 2021. It involved 108 students of Economics pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Results: The values that most respondents expect from their future employers cover attractive remuneration, the stability of employment, a promotion prospect and friendly workplace atmosphere. The least significant values include work in a big city, work in a convenient location and an opportunity to work in an international environment. The students of older years would find it easier to cope with work at a high pace and under the pressure of time. The need to perform imitative work and focus only on the narrow scope of work duties would not be a serious problem for the participants of the study. Conclusions: The students of Economics at the Pope John Paull II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska will engage in their work and perform it to the best of their abilities if they are adequately remunerated and given a possibility of further professional development, and when working conditions and atmosphere are good and comfortable.

Opis:
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: “Essai sur la Nature du Commerce en Général”, published in 1730, became the basis for formulating economic theories of Hume, Smith and the physiocrats, as well as for the works of Knight and Mises. The aim of the article is to present the economic issues touch on in the essay against the background of the review of the relevant literature in the field of economic theory, as well as the possibility of transforming economic models into practical structures shaping the economic views of future generations. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Theoretical issues were confronted with economic knowledge among sample N=600 in 2016-2020. The chi-square (χ2) test was used to test the existence of statistical significance between gender and the understanding of the importance of economic issues. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The sample has shown lack of basic knowledge in the economic filed in the aspect of university economic courses. At the same time, only those surveyed who are active on the labour market as entrepreneurs, perceive the need to raise qualifications and make complete knowledge in the examined subject. RESEARCH RESULTS: Cantillon in his essay focuses on the "economic aspects of human action”. The results of studies conducted at the university have shown, that their basic knowledge in the field of economic sciences is at an unsatisfactory level. CONCLUSION, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMENDATIONS: Contemporary economics omits the entrepreneur in economic models and in the relevant literature. However, it is a key link, directly affecting both, micro and macroeconomic indicators. The connections and mutual influences described by Cantillon are favourable to thoroughly understanding of economic phenomena in real, economies world. This knowledge should be disseminated not only for better economic estimation, but also for a better understanding of events occurring in the world and the results of their implications.

Opis:
The paper investigates cartels, or agreements between competing firms that seek to influence prices for certain goods and services by controlling production and marketing. The author examines the neoclassical approach to cartels and proposes two additional approaches, behavioral and ethical, to expand existing research on cartels. Most mainstream studies tend to approach cartels from a neoclassical perspective, according to the author. This research approach gave rise to the so-called optimal deterrence theory, which has become the basis for antitrust policy in highly developed countries, Karbowski notes. The optimal deterrence theory is a point of reference for Karbowski in his article. He compares the optimal deterrence theory with the results of behavioral analyses and ethical reasoning focusing on cartels. According to the author, a behavioral approach makes it possible to show how the behavior of firms deviates from the path delineated by the standard optimal deterrence theory, based on assumptions of full rationality, perfect egoism and complete self-control of decision makers. These behavioral deviations can be explained by either internal (trait-based) or external (environmental) factors, Karbowski says. Ethical analysis makes it possible to expand the neoclassical approach to cartels by showing that cartel behavior can be viewed not only in pure economic terms, but also in terms of theft, deception and cheating, the author argues.

Purpose – An indication that complexity economics proposes a more adequate description of economic phenomena and the basis of a strategy to combat the COVID-19 pandemic than traditional economics, which may be the beginning of a breakthrough in the development of economic sciences. Research method – Analysis of the literature on the subject and deductive reasoning. Results – The adoption of the complexity economics perspective in the description of the phenomena accompanying the pandemic allows for a credible explanation of the problems and limitations of the anti-coronavirus policy and provides an interesting basis for an action strategy that gives a chance to use the current crisis to initiate economic development processes more adequate to contemporary economic, ecological and social challenges, and also to revise the hitherto achievements of economic science. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – The article is a contribution to the discussion on the economic aspects of the pandemic and the theory of economics, it is also an original interpretation of the theses of complexity economics in the context of the COVID-19 problem.

Opis:
The internal economy of the web is explored in the paper and a fundamental difference with the material world economy is demonstrated. Thus, incompatibility with classical economics is shown. In network economy, such concepts as public and private goods, scarcity and competitiveness, as well as production, consumption, and distribution, generate paradoxes and contradictions. Appropriate description of the network economy requires a return to the origins of economic thought and a redefinition or rejection of certain wellestablished concepts and theorems. Intuitively clear ideas may be proved to be false, and old utopias may occur surprisingly realistic. There is no reason, and indeed even no possibility, to apply the same laws to describe and control economies of the virtual and of the real world.

Opis:
The paper looks at the changes that have taken place in the way researchers examine the influence of taxes on economic growth and competitiveness, both in Poland and elsewhere. These changes have primarily involved a broader look at this issue over the past decade or so, the author says. For decades in the past, researchers focused on analyzing the direct influence of taxes on economic growth. With time, they expanded their approach to include various aspects of taxation and types of taxes. They began to separately examine the impact of personal income tax, corporate income tax and indirect taxes, looking at their average, minimum and maximum effects through the lens of supply-side economics. Supply-side economics is an economic theory that states that a reduction in taxes stimulates the economy enough to recoup the lost revenue. Today those researching the impact of taxes on economic growth and competitiveness increasingly acknowledge that the influence of taxes on an economy depends on the context in which tax policy is pursued, Wnorowski says. This particularly applies to institutional conditions in which taxes are levied and modified. Of special importance are any legislative difficulties or limitations encountered by tax policymakers, the overall thrust of government policy, and the efficiency of authorities responsible for the enforcement of tax regulations and laws, according to the author. Wnorowski analyzes research reports on the subject and he also takes a look at expert studies by international institutions such as the World Bank and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Such studies have abounded in the last few years, highlighting the role of various institutional factors, according to Wnorowski. When analyzed collectively, institutional factors make it possible to better understand the relationship between taxes and economic growth as well as changes in the level of competitiveness. Overall, an institutional economic approach is now increasingly common in research into the influence of taxes on economic growth, the author says.

Opis:
XX wieku w rezultacie prac amerykańskich ekonomistów, m.in. J. Dunlopa, C. Kerra, R. Lestera i L. Reynoldsa, którzy odrzucili neoklasyczny model rynku pracy i podkreślili zasadniczą rolę instytucji w analizie rynku pracy.
The object of study is labour economics, its genesis and development, directions and nature of research as well as relations between labour economics and other sciences. Labour economics was founded in the fourties of the XX century as a result of works by such American economists as J. Dunlop, C. Kerr, R. Lester, L. Reynolds, who rejected the neoclassical model of the labour market and underlined essential role of the institutions in the labour market analysis. In the next period of development (the years 1970–2000), under the influence of the neoclassical revival in economic theory, labour economics has lost some of its earlier institutional specificity and resembled the mainstream of economics. The essential contribution to the formation of modern labour economics was made by the new institutional economics, in which the synthesis was made between institutional approach and main ideas of the mainstream of economics. In the process of labour economics development one can observe tendencies to differentiate and integrate this science with the other sciences. These tendencies occur not only in relation to the object of the research but also in relation to applied research methods.

The main branch of traditional economics used to focus on economic and social development, and on increasing profits. This led to disregard for the scantiness of natural resources and their renewal. This article looks at the criticism of traditional economic theory by the proponents of the economics of sustainable development, most notable amongst them being the theoretician, Holger Rogall. The notion and crucial principles of the economics of sustainable development are also discussed. The proposed new paradigm in economics is strong sustainability. The theory put forward is strictly related to the idea of sustainable development and the rules of inter- and intragenerational justice and responsibility in the meaning of environmental ethics.

The main purpose of this article is to show the barriers that researchers of economic and political science have to overcome in terms of interdisciplinary studies. The analysis is conducted from the perspective of the two specialist fields. According to the author understanding such barriers and the denotation of common research spheres, enable the opportunities to launch new projects at the intersection of the sciences. After underlining the main features of each science individually in terms of the interdisciplinary potential, the potential for the development of the research including elements of economics and political science is introduced.

Satire is a literary genre with esthetic value determined by laughter. Every kind of laughter is specific for different periods of economic and social development. The forms of material production underlie the perception of the comic. Satirical traditions are intrinsic to national ideological systems. Satire commits seditious attacks against social ideologies. It influences the politics and the politics influences the satire which is only possible with a certain level of sociopolitical development of a society. Satirical tradition can be formed and established only at conditions of democratic political tradition, otherwise it takes perverted shapes.
