Opis:
In this paper an adaptive differential evolution approach for dynamic optimization problems is studied. A new benchmark suite Syringa is also presented. The suite allows to generate test-cases from a multiple number of dynamic optimization classes. Two dynamic benchmarks: Generalized Dynamic Benchmark Generator (GDBG) and Moving Peaks Benchmark (MPB) have been simulated in Syringa and in the presented research they were subject of the experimental research. Two versions of adaptive differential evolution approach, namely the jDE algorithm have been heavily tested: the pure version of jDE and jDE equipped with solutions mutated with a new operator. The operator uses a symmetric ?-stable distribution variate for modification of the solution coordinates.

In this article, the performance of an evolutionary multi-agent system in dynamic optimization is evaluated in comparison to classical evolutionary algorithms. The starting point is a general introduction describing the background, structure and behavior of EMAS against classical evolutionary techniques. Then, the properties of energy-based selection are investigated to show how they may influence the diversity of the population in EMAS. The considerations are illustrated by experimental results based on the dynamic version of the well-known, high-dimensional Rastrigin function benchmark.

Opis:
This paper studies particle swarm optimization approach enriched by two versions of an extension aimed at gathering information during the optimization process. Application of these extensions, called memory mechanisms, increases computational cost, but it is spent to a benefit by incorporating the knowledge about the problem into the algorithm and this way improving its search abilities. The first mechanism is based on the idea of storing explicit solutions while the second one applies one-pass clustering algorithm to build clusters containing search experiences. The main disadvantage of the former mechanism is lack of good rules for identification of outdated solutions among the remembered ones and as a consequence unlimited growth of the memory structures as the optimization process goes. The latter mechanism uses other form of knowledge representation and thus allows us to control the amount of allocated resources more efficiently than the former one. Both mechanisms have been experimentally verified and their advantages and disadvantages in application for different types of optimized environments are discussed.

Saccharamyces cerevisia known as baker’s yeast is a product used in various food industries. Worldwide economic competition makes it a necessity that industrial processes be operated in optimum conditions, thus maximisation of biomass in production of saccharamyces cerevisia in fedbatch reactors has gained importance. The facts that the dynamic fermentation model must be considered as a constraint in the optimisation problem, and dynamics involved are complicated, make optimisation of fed-batch processes more difficult. In this work, the amount of biomass in the production of baker’s yeast in fed-batch fermenters was intended to be maximised while minimising unwanted alcohol formation, by regulating substrate and air feed rates. This multiobjective problem has been tackled earlier only from the point of view of finding optimum substrate rate, but no account of air feed rate profiles has been provided. Control vector parameterisation approach was applied the original dynamic optimisation problem which was converted into a NLP problem. Then SQP was used for solving the dynamic optimisation problem. The results demonstrate that optimum substrate and air feeding profiles can be obtained by the proposed optimisation algorithm to achieve the two conflicting goals of maximising biomass and minimising alcohol formation.

In this paper two different update schemes for the recently developed plug-in direct particle swarm repetitive controller (PDPSRC) are investigated and compared. The proposed approach employs the particle swarm optimizer (PSO) to solve in on-line mode a dynamic optimization problem (DOP) related to the control task in the constant-amplitude constant-frequency voltage-source inverter (CACF VSI) with an LC output filter. The effectiveness of synchronous and asynchronous update rules, both commonly used in static optimization problems (SOPs), is assessed and compared in the case of PDPSRC. The performance of the controller, when synthesized using each of the update schemes, is studied numerically.

Opis:
Currently, air pollution and energy consumption are the main issues in the transportation area in large urban cities. In these cities, most people choose their transportation mode according to corresponding utility including traveller's and trip’s characteristics. Also, there is no effective solution in terms of population growth, urban space, and transportation demands, so it is essential to optimize systematically travel demands in the real network of roads in urban areas, especially in congested areas. Travel Demand Management (TDM) is one of the well-known ways to solve these problems. TDM defined as a strategy that aims to maximize the efficiency of the urban transport system by granting certain privileges for public transportation modes, Enforcement on the private car traffic prohibition in specific places or times, increase in the cost of using certain facilities like parking in congested areas. Network pricing is one of the most effective methods of managing transportation demands for reducing traffic and controlling air pollution especially in the crowded parts of downtown. A little paper may exist that optimize urban transportations in busy parts of cities with combined Markov decision making processes with reward and evolutionary-based algorithms and simultaneously considering customers’ and trip’s characteristics. Therefore, we present a new network traffic management for urban cities that optimizes a multi-objective function that related to the expected value of the Markov decision system’s reward using the Genetic Algorithm. The planned Shiraz city is taken as a benchmark for evaluating the performance of the proposed approach. At first, an analysis is also performed on the impact of the toll levels on the variation of the user and operator cost components, respectively. After choosing suitable values for the network parameters, simulation of the Markov decision process and GA is dynamically performed, then the optimal decision for the Markov decision process in terms of total reward is obtained. The results illustrate that the proposed cordon pricing has significant improvement in performance for all seasons including spring, autumn, and winter.

Decision making in managing the asset and liability structure of a pension fund can be supported by stochastic dynamic optimization. We discuss our model, which is based on data analysis and forecast for the asset-side as well as a simulation model for the liability side. The core of our decision support system consists of the following building blocks : a set of securities, a pricing module based on a multifactor Markov model to derive expected returns of securities, a simulation-based model for liabilities, a carefully chosen objective function suitable for the pension fund and a stochastic optimization problem solver. We consider the use of different objectives in the model and decomposition techniques to solve the stochastic portfolio optimization problem. Our final goal is to design an efficient parallel implementation.

The main purpose of this paper is to describe the design, implementation and possibilities of our object-oriented library of algorithms for dynamic optimization problems. We briefly present library classes for the formulation and manipulation of dynamic optimization problems, and give a general survey of solver classes for unconstrained and constrained optimization. We also demonstrate methods of derivative evaluation that we used, in particular automatic differentiation. Further, we briefly formulate and characterize the class of problems solved by our optimization classes. The solution of dynamic optimization problems with general constraints is performed by transformation into structured large-scale nonlinear programming problems and applying methods for nonlinear optimization. Two main algorithms of solvers for constrained dynamic optimization are presented in detail: the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) exploring the multistage structure of the dynamic optimization problem during the solution of a sequence of quadratic subproblems, and the nonlinear interior-point method implemented in a general-purpose large-scale optimizer IPOPT. At the end, we include a typical numerical example of the application of the constrained solvers to a large-scale discrete-time optimal control problem and we use the performance profiles methodology to compare the efficiency and robustness of different solvers or different options of the same solver. In conclusions, we summarize our experience gathered during the library development.

Opis:
An enhancement to the previously developed repetitive neurocontroller (RNC) is discussed and investigated in the paper. Originally, the time-base generator (TBG) has been used to produce the only input signal for the neural approximator. The resulting search space makes the dynamic optimization problem (DOP) of shaping the control signal solvable with the help of a function approximator such as the feed-forward neural network (FFNN). The plant under consideration, i.e. a constant-amplitude constant-frequency voltage-source inverter (CACF VSI) with an output LC filter, is assumed to be equipped with the disturbance load current sensor to enable implementation of the disturbance feed-forward (pDFF) path as a part of the non-repetitive subsystem acting in the along the pass p-direction. An investigation has been undertaken to explore potential benefits of using this signal also as an additional input for the RNC to augment the approximation space and potentially enhance the convergence rate of the real-time search process. It is numerically demonstrated in the paper that the disturbance feed-forward path active in the pass-to-pass k-direction (kDFF) improves the dynamics of the repetitive part as well indeed.

Opis:
The paper describes a modification to the recently developed plug-in direct particle swarm repetitive controller (PDPSRC) for the sine-wave constant-amplitude constant-frequency (CACF) voltage-source inverter (VSI). The original PDPSRC algorithm assumes that the particle swarm optimizer (PSO) takes into account a performance index defined over the whole reference signal period. Each particle stores all the samples of the control signal, e.g. α = 200 samples for a controller working at 10 kHz and the reference frequency equal to 50 Hz. Therefore, the fitness landscape (i.e. the performance index) is -dimensional ( D), which makes optimization challenging. That solution can be categorized as the single-swarm one. It has been previously shown that the swarm controller does not suffer from long-term stability issues encountered in the classic iterative learning controllers (ILC). However, the convergence of the swarm has to be kept at a relatively low rate to enable successful exploitation in the D search space, which in turn results in slow responsiveness of the PDPSRC. Here a multi-swarm approach is proposed in which we divide a dynamic optimization problem (DOP) among less dimensional swarms. The reference signal period is segmented into shorter intervals and the control signal is optimized in each interval independently by separate swarms. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated with the help of numerical experiments on the CACF VSI with an output LC filter operating under nonlinear loads.

With the rapid growth in new energy vehicle industry, more and more new energy vehicle battery packs catch fire or even explode due to the internal short circuit. Comparing with traditional vehicles, the new energy vehicles industry should pay more attention to safety of power battery pack structures. The battery pack is an important barrier to protect the internal batteries. A battery pack structure model is imported into ANSYS for structural optimization under sharp acceleration, sharp turn and sharp deceleration turn conditions on the bumpy road. Based on the simulation, the battery pack structure is improved, and suitable materials are determined. Then the collision resistance of the optimized battery pack is verified, and the safety level is greatly improved. While ensuring the safety and reliability of the battery pack structure, it also reduces the weight to satisfy the lightweight design and complies with relevant technical standards.

Investment management on the capital market is a complex and multifarious process and the accuracy of decisions is an indispensable condition that an investor needs to fulfill if the expected economic results are to be achieved. The paper presents the concept of the optimization of investment portfolio on the capital market of shares. The maximum value of portfolio quality measure was used as an optimization criterion. It is expressed by the index of variability R/σ of the rate of return for each share in the portfolio. The cumulation of values of R/σ index in the successive years of the investigated period allowed for an econometric estimation of the continuous functions and their maximum. The indexes of asymmetry of rate of return for particular shares in the portfolio were introduced into the functions, which enabled to increase the efficiency of the selection of shares for the portfolio. This, in turn, allowed to achieve the optimum structure of shares in the portfolio.

The optimum value of residence time for all reactors are equal and all ratio of input and output concentrations are equal, hence, and all volumes of reactors are also equal. A total volume of the cascade of reactors is less than the amount single. Application of the method of dynamic programming is illustrated with an example of the calculation of the polymerization in a cascade of four reactors according to the literature experimental data.

A dynamic programming-based algorithm adapted to on-board heterogeneous computers for simulation-based trajectory optimization was studied in the context of high-performance sailing. The algorithm can efficiently utilize all OpenCL-capable devices, starting the computation (if necessary, in single precision) on a GPU and finalizing it (if necessary, in double-precision) with the use of a CPU. The serial and parallel versions of the algorithm are presented in detail. Possible extensions of the basic algorithm are also described. The experimental results show that contemporary heterogeneous on-board/mobile computers can be treated as micro HPC platforms. They offer high performance (the OpenCL-capable GPU was found to accelerate the optimization routine 41 fold) while remaining energy and cost efficient. The simulation-based approach has the potential to give very accurate results, as the mathematical model upon which the simulator is based may be as complex as required. The black-box represented performance measure and the use of OpenCL make the presented approach applicable to many trajectory optimization problems.

Results are presented for optimal layout of materials in the spatial and temporal domains for a ID structure subjected to transient wave propagation. A general optimization procedure is outlined including derivation of design sensitivities for the case when the mass density and stiffness vary in time. The outlined optimization procedure is exemplified on a ID wave propagation problem in which a single gaussian pulse is compressed when propagating through the optimized structure. Special emphasis is put on the use of a time-discontinuous Galerkin integration scheme that facilitates analysis of a system with a time-varying mass matrix.

The following paper presents a new method for choosing a set of master degrees of freedom for the process of dynamic condensation in order to reduce a finite element model. The general rule is that the more degrees of freedom are eliminated, the more accurate the reduced model is. However, eliminating different subsets (of equal sizes) of degrees of freedom may influence the accuracy differently. Therefore, choosing an optimal subset is crucial. The presented method is based on multicriterial evolutionary optimization which makes it the first nondeterministic approach based on computational optimization technique for this application.

The paper presents research findings in the modelling and optimization of dynamic parameters of mechatronic systems with an induction motor. A mathematical model was developed to analyze currents in dynamic states of squirrel-cage rotors in the case of a line-to-line fault. The findings were verified experimentally using calculations for a 1.5 kW three-phase induction motor. The equations for a stationary 0x, 0y coordinate system relating to the stator were derived. The set of design variables selected in the optimization process contained parameters describing design features of the gear shafts and control units settings.

Vessels conducting dynamic positioning (DP) operations are usually equipped with thruster configurations that enable the generation of resultant force and moment in any direction. These configurations are deliberately redundant in order to reduce the consequences of thruster failures and increase the safety. On such vessels a thrust allocation system must be used to distribute the control actions determined by the DP controller among the thrusters. The optimal allocation of thrusters’ settings in DP systems is a problem that can be solved by several convex optimization methods depending on criteria and constraints used. The paper presents linear programming (LP) and quadratic programming (QP) methods adopted in the DP control model which is being developed at the Maritime University of Szczecin for ship simulation purposes.

Optimization of the impact multi-mass vibration absorbers. The problem of attaching dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) to a discrete multi-degree-of-freedom or continuous structure has been outlined in many papers and monographs. An impact damping system can overcome some limitations by impact as the damping medium and impact mass interaction as the damping mechanism. The paper contemplates the provision of DVA with the several of the impact masses. Such originally designed absorbers reduce vibration selectively in maximum vibration mode without introducing vibration in other modes. An impact damper is a passive control device which takes the form of a freely moving mass, constrained by stops attached to the structure under control, i.e. the primary structure. The damping results from the exchange of momentum during impacts between the mass and the stops as the structure vibrates. The paper contemplates the provision of the impact multi-mass DVA’s with masses collisions for additional damping. For some cases of DVA optimization such a design seems more effective than conventional multi-mass DVA with independent mass moving. A technique is developed to give the optimal DVA’s for the elimination of excessive vibration in harmonic stochastic and impact loaded systems.

Nowadays, the main challenge in maintenance is to establish a dynamic maintenance strategy to significantly track and improve the performance measures of multi-state systems in terms of production, quality, security and even the environment. This paper presents a quantitative approach based on Dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN) to model and evaluate the maintenance of multi-state system and their functional dependencies. According to transition relationships between the system states modeled by the Markov process, a DBN model is established. The objective is to evaluate the reliability and the availability of the system with taking into account the impact of maintenance strategies (perfect repair and imperfect repair). Using the proposed approach, the dynamic probabilities of system states can be determined and the subsystems contributing to system failure can also be identified. A practical application is demonstrated by a case study of a blower system. Through the result of the diagnostic inference, to improve the performances of the blower, the critical components C, F, W, and P should be given more attention. The results indicate also that the perfect repair strategy can improve significantly the performances of the blower, while the imperfect repair strategy cannot degrade the performances in comparison to the perfect repair strategy. These results show the effectiveness of this approach in the context of a predictive evaluation process and in providing the opportunity to evaluate the impact of the choices made on the future measurement of systems performances. Finally, through diagnostic analysis, intervention management and maintenance planning are managed efficiently and optimally.

Markov decision processes (MDPs) provide a mathematical model for sequential decisionmaking (sMDP/dMDP: stochastic/ deterministic MDP). We introduce the concept of generalized dMDP (g-dMDP) where each action may result in more than one next (parallel or clone) state. The common tools to represent dMDPs are digraphs, but these are inadequate for sMDPs and g-dMDPs. We introduce d-graphs as general tools to represent all the above mentioned processes (stationary versions). We also present a combined d-graph algorithm that implements dynamic programming strategies to find optimal policies for the finite/infinite horizon versions of these Markov processes. (The preliminary version of this paper was presented at the Conference MACRo 2011.)

We suggest the optimal choice of absorber parameters, which is slightly different and more general analytical approach. The comparison of two methods of optimization is carried out, and the corresponding error of calculus is estimated.

This paper proposes an energy-efficient routing optimization for multimedia transmission in WMSNs. The optimization utilizes a routing algorithm based on the dynamic programming. The routing optimization algorithm selects intermediary nodes which have minimum energy above 60%. Then, the priority selection of paths immediately finds neighboring nodes which have the greatest energy minimum. If there is the same minimum energy between the neighboring nodes, then the second priority selection is based on smaller link cost.

The simulation provides a close agreement with the measurements over various entire frequency ranges, which means the SDOF is simple yet easy to calculate the damped motion, compared with the experimental results of particle DVA. A new non-linear method utilizing the work W of car deformation is considered in this study. The car deformation is defined as an algebraic function of deformation ratio Cs. The method of variable correlation is exploited in order to develop experimental data. To determinate mathematical model parameters, data from the NHTSA database including frontal crash tests are used. Such database is comprised of substantial number of crash cases and main focus was put on frontal impacts. In the non-linear method used so far, the so-called energetic approach, collisions are considered non-elastic. The speed threshold defining the elastic collision was set to be 11 km/h. This simplistic approach is used to determine the linear relation of energy loss during deformation on deformation coefficient Cs. Deformation points C1-C6 are taken into account while calculating a mean value that defines this coefficient. A more accurate non-linear method as well as more complex form of deformation coefficient is suggested to determine the work of deformation in this paper. The focus of those methods is to establish the value of nonlinear coefficient b_k which is the slope factor of precrash velocity Vt and deformation ratio Cs function.

In this paper, a dynamic preventive maintenance strategy is proposed for the problem of high maintenance cost rate due to excessive maintenance caused by unreasonable maintenance threshold setting when complex electromechanical equipment maintenance strategy is formulated. Increasing failure rate factor and decreasing service age factor are introduced to describe the evolution rules of failure rate during the maintenance of the coating machine, and the BP-LSTM (BP-Long Short Term Memory Network, BP-LSTM) model is combined to predict the failure rate of the coating machine. A Dynamic preventive maintenance Model (DM) that relies on dynamic failure rate thresholds to classify the three preventive maintenance modes of minor, medium and major repairs is constructed. A dynamic preventive maintenance strategy optimization process based on Genetic-Particle Swarm Optimization (GPSO) algorithm with the lowest cost rate per unit time in service phase is built to solve the difficult problem of dynamic failure rate threshold finding. Based on the historical operating data of the coating machine, a case study of the dynamic preventive maintenance strategy of the coating machine was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the model and the developed maintenance strategy proposed in this paper. The results show that the maintenance strategy developed in this paper can ensure better economy and applicability.

Opis:
This paper presents an approach for providing innovative technology by applying fluid mechanics to the field of architectural design. The aim is to make a building’s shape profitable and strengthen environmental protection by using the wind force to create an integrated wind absorption definition for a multifunctional building system model. Furthermore, taking control of the wind flow over an object can have an impact on not only the designed object itself but also on its surroundings. In modern coastal cities there are issues associated with the wind and ventilation that need to be solved. The presented system model and the calculations conducted are part of the new definition of a multifunctional object and the wind force as a significant subsystem. Systematizing this scope can be useful in design practice.

Opis:
Three-point roll bending is one of the most common forming processes employed to obtain the desired radius of curvature in the sheet metal operations. Upon the removal of the forming load, the sheet metal deforms to a lesser extent than that of the required dimension. This phenomenon is termed as spring-back and is considered the most challenging areas of research in three-point roll bending of sheet metals. This study aims to develop a numerical model using HyperWorks and Radioss solver to understand the influence of load, the distance between the forming rollers, and its thickness on the spring-back effect in the course of three-point roll bending of sheet metal (AA5052). The results of the numerical model are validated with the results of the experimental trials. Besides, a statistical model is developed to relate the amount of spring-back with the three-point roll bending process parameters.

Opis:
In this work, a genetic-algorithm-based Kriging model with multi-point addition sequence optimization strategy is addressed to make up for the shortcomings of Kriging model with single point criterion. This approach combines the multi-point addition strategy with genetic algorithm to enable the Kriging model to efficiently capture the globally optimal solution. Based on this, a multi-level surrogate method is presented by employing a local surrogate model to modify the Kriging global surrogate model, and then applied to design optimization to improve the accuracy and efficiency of global optimization. Meanwhile, a reliability design optimization method based on multi-level surrogate model is studied by dealing with the reliability constraints with an adaptive reliability penalty function. Numerical examples show that the proposed method can find the optimal solution of the object problem with the least calculation cost under the condition of satisfying the reliability constraint.

Driver assistance systems have started becoming a key differentiator in automotive space and all major automotive manufacturers have such systems with various capabilities and stages of implementation. The main building blocks of such systems are similar in nature and one of the major building blocks is road lane detection. Even though lane detection technology has been around for decades, it is still an ongoing area of research and there are still several improvements and optimizations that are possible. This paper offers an Optimized Dynamic Origin Technique (Optimized DOT) for lane detection. The proposed optimization algorithm of optimized DOT gives better results in performance and accuracy compared to other methods of lane detection. Analysis of proposed optimized DOT with various edge detection techniques, various threshold levels, various sample dataset and various lane detection methods were done and the results are discussed in this paper. The proposed optimized DOT lane detection average processing time increases by 9.21 % when compared to previous Dynamic Origin Technique (DOT) and 59.09 % compared to traditional hough transform.

In the paper, a method and results of parameter estimation of the mathematical model of a generating unit operating in the Polish National Power System are presented. Computations of the parameters were carried out based on measurement and simulation of dynamic waveforms of selected quantities of the generating unit. The problem of parameter identification was brought to minimization of the objective function determined by the vector of deviations between the approximated and approximating waveforms computed on the basis of the models expressed by the searched parameters. A hybrid optimization algorithm, being a serial combination of genetic and gradient algorithms, was used for minimization of the objective function. A methodology for filtering the recorded measurement signals is proposed in the paper. Method and results calculation of the sensitivity to changes of the model parameters of selected dynamic waveforms are also presented.

Opis:
The paper presents the simulation results of the modular reluctance motor (Transverse Flux Motor) with an outer rotor in different transient states. The main goal of the analysis was the developing process of a mathematical TFM model with a high level of accordance with real object. The mathematical model was implemented in Matlab/Simulink environment and compared with the filed-circuit model (FLUX3D). Several computer simulations were carried out for different TFM motor operating conditions.
1). 4a). Podobne podejście zastosowano w przypadku momentu elektromagnetycznego wyznaczając funkcję T = f ( i,Θ ). 5), układu zasilania i sterowania (rys. 6) oraz z bloku implementacji wielkości mechanicznych (rys. 7).

Opis:
An on-line optimising control strategy involving a two level extended Kalman filter (EKF) for dynamic model identification and a functional conjugate gradient method for determining optimal operating condition is proposed and applied to a biochemical reactor. The optimiser incorporates the identified model and determines the optimal operating condition while maximising the process performance. This strategy is computationally advantageous as it involves separate estimation of states and process parameters in reduced dimensions. In addition to assisting on-line dynamic optimisation, the estimated time varying uncertain process parameter information can also be useful for continuous monitoring of the process. This strategy ensures that the biochemical reactor is operated at the optimal operation while taking care of the disturbances that are encountered during operation. The simulation results demonstrate the usefulness of the two level EKF assisted dynamic optimizer for on-line optimising control of uncertain nonlinear biochemical systems.

Opis:
An essential task of the interconnected power system is about how to optimize power plants during operation time which is known as economic dispatch. In this study, the Fruit Fly Optimization method is proposed to solve problems of dynamic economic dispatch in an electrical power system. To measure the performance of the method, a simulation was conducted for two different electric systems of the existing Sulselbar 150 kV thermal power plant system in Indonesia with two objective functions, namely fuel costs and active power transmission losses, aswell as the 30-bus IEEE standard system with five objective functions namely fuel costs, transmission losses (active and reactive power), a reactive power reserve margin, and an emission index by considering a power generation limit and ramp rates as the constraints. Under tested cases, the simulation results have shown that the Fruit Fly Optimization method can solve the problems of dynamic economic dispatch better than other existing optimization methods. It is indicated by all values of the objective functions that are lowest for the Fruit Fly Optimization method. Moreover, the obtained computational time is sufficiently fast to get the best solution.

This paper is concerned with a shape optimization problem of a viscoelastic body in unilateral dynamic contact with a rigid foundation. The contact with Coulomb friction is assumed to occur at a portion of the boundary of the body. The nonpenetration condition is described in terms of velocities. The thermal deformation is taken into account. Using the material derivative method as well as the results concerning the regularity of solutions to dynamic variational thermoviscoelastic problem the directional derivative of the cost functional is calculated. A necessary optimality condition is formulated.
