Opis:
The paper focuses on a winch drum winding a heavy rope to present the variety of issues related to the dynamics of systems with rotating parts of time-varying mass. The dynamic motion equations for such systems are frequently either incorrect or derived under the assumption of mass constancy. When the mass variability is taken into account, simpler cases are discussed. The considerations on the angular momentum theorem enables formulating a new two time parameters form of the rotational motion equation for the system with time varying mass. Four cases are considered and different approaches of motion equations derivation are applied. The assumptions and solution methods of the analyzed systems as well as ambiguities and possible contradictions that may arise as a result of the trial of the problem formulation on the grounds of rigid body mechanics are discussed. The numerical simulations are presented.

The nonlinear interaction of wave and non-wave modes in a gas planar flow are considered. Attention is mainly paid to the case when one sound mode is dominant and excites the counter-propagating sound mode and the entropy mode. The modes are determined by links between perturbations of pressure, density, and fluid velocity. This definition follows from the linear conservation equations in the differentia form and thermodynamic equations of state. The leading order system of coupling equations for interacting modes is derived. It consists of diffusion inhomogeneous equations. The main aim of this study is to identify the principle features of the interaction and to establish individual contributions of attenuation (mechanical and thermal attenuation) in the solution to the system.

In this work, we study the oscillation and asymptotic behaviour of third-order nonlinear dynamic equations on time scales. The findings are obtained using an integral criterion as well as a comparison theorem with the oscillatory properties of a first-order dynamic equation. As a consequence, we give conditions which guarantee that all solutions to the aforementioned problem are only oscillatory, different from any other result in the literature. We propose novel oscillation criteria that improve, extend, and simplify existing ones in the literature. The results are associated with a numerical example. We point out that the results are new even for the case $ \mathbb{T} = \mathbb{R} $ or $ \mathbb{T} = \mathbb{Z} $.

This article describes use of the Generalized Algebraic Difference Approach for derivation of generic dynamic site equations. The generic equations are useful in situations of unspecific expectations with regards to the final model form where one wants to test simultaneously in a single fitting many various models and assumptions about the modeled processes. Equations derived in this work are extremely flexible with various patterns of polymorphisms and asymptotes. Even thought in principle the generic equations have more parameters, those derived with methodology proposed here are very parsimonious.

Tested are three approaches to development of site dependent height age model based on published Scots pine tabular data. The approaches included fitting four−parameter modified Gompertz function individually to all site productivity classes; fitting a one−parameter anamorphic dynamic site index equation to all the data; and fitting a three−parameter polymorphic dynamic site index equation with variable asymptotes to all data. The common fit to all data was based on a base−age invariant approach, in which the site−specific parameters different for each of the site productivity classes are estimated simultaneously with the global model parameters that are common to all site productivities. The best model proved to be based on the polymorphic dynamic equation with variable asymptotes by Cieszewski [2001, Three methods of deriving advanced dynamic site equations demonstrated on Inland Douglas−fir site curves. Can. J. For. Res. 31(1): 165−173], which fitted the data best and provided one common model for all the site classes. The produced model was concluded to be superior to the other models and to the original tables. The presented approach is recommended for modeling of other stand growth attributes.

We have constructed and investigated a model of thermoelastic contact of solids with inretia forces taken into account, in conditions of frictional heat and mechanical wear. It has been assumed that a layer is in a relative motion with respect to a wall. During the motion the gap between the layer and the wall changes due to heat expansion of the layer. The influence of material constants, velocity and parameters of the model on the contact characteristic have been investigated. The solution to the problem has been reduced to a system of the Volterra-Hammerstein non-linear integral equations, which in turn has been solved by means of the developed algorithm. The numerical solutions have been presented in diagrams.
Sformułowaliśmy i zbadaliśmy pewien model kontaktu ciał sprężystych przy uwzględnieniu sił bezwładności w warunkach wydzielania ciepła tarcia i mechanicznego zużycia materiału. Rozwiązanie układu równań różniczkowych cząstkowych, opisujących rozpatrywane zagadnienie, zostało zredukowane do układu nieliniowych równań całkowych Volterry-Hammersteina. Rozwiązanie liczbowe otrzymaliśmy z pomocą zaproponowanego algorytmu. Zostały one przedstawione w postaci wykresów.

In this article the problem of determination of such coefficients a1, a2, ..., an and eigenvalues s1, s2, ..., sn of the characteristic equation which yield required extremal values of the solution x(t) at the extremal value τ of time is solved. The extremal values of x(τ ) and τ are treated as functions of the roots s1, s2, ..., sn. The analytical formulae enable us to design the systems with prescribed dynamic properties. For solution of the problem the properties of symmetrical equations are used. The method is illustrated by an example of the equation of 4-th degree. The regions of the different kinds of the roots: real, with one pair of complex and two pairs of complex roots are illustrated. A practical problem is shown.

Next, transformations to classical optimal control problems are presented. Then, the dynamic programming approach is used and sufficient conditions for the shape optimization problem are given. A new numerical method to find the approximate value function is developed.

Opis:
This paper concerns second order sufficient conditions of optimality, involving the Riccati equation, for optimal control problems with periodic boundary conditions. The problems considered involve no pathwise constraints and are 'regular', in the sense that the strengthened Legendre-Clebsch condition is assumed to be satisfied. A well-known sufficient, condition, which we refer to as the Riccati sufficient condition, requires the existence of a global solution to the Riccati equation whose endpoint values satisfy a certain inequality. A sharper condition, named the extended sufficient, condition, takes the form of an inequality involving the solutions of a Riccati equation and two additional linear matrix equations. We highlight the superiority of the extended Riccati sufficient condition and develop a number of equivalent formulations of this condition. Not only does the extended Riccati sufficient, condition supply more information about, minimizers, but it is the basis of simpler numerical tests for assessing whether an extremal is a minimizer, at least in a local sense. The Riccati and also the extended Riccati sufficient conditions are applied to a variant of Speyer's 'sailboat' problem, involving parameters. It is found that the extended Riccati sufficient condition identifies a much larger set of points on parameter space for which a nominal control is optimal, in comparison to the Riccati sufficient condition.

This paper presents a solution to the problem of a peg leaning on the edge of a horizontal hole at three points. The object of the interest is the motion in the course of automated peg-in-hole assembly. The complex motion of a peg is described in two degrees of freedom. These degrees of freedom are planar motion and rotational motion. Planar motion provides parts alignment via a change of nutation angle. Rotational motion occurs around a hole axis. It is described by a precession angle. The kinematic analysis of these was performed. Based on this analysis the directions of the peg velocities at the contact points were established. The directions of forces acting on the peg at these points were also determined. The system of Dynamic Differential Equations of the generalized coordinates was derived. This system determines the equations of the peg motion and dynamic reactions. During rotational motion, the forces acting on the peg at contact points are shown to be significantly reduced. This reduction improves the conditions of parts alignment and increases the assembly quality.
