Opis:
This article examines drone usage by Russia and Georgia in Five-Day War during 2008. Rapidly increasing the use of lethal drones profoundly shapes the ability of various countries and armed groups to wage war. This could have serious consequences for regional security. The rapidly increasing use of drones and robots as well as data-driven military analysis are likely to have a significant impact on the future of hostilities in military operations. In this article, the authors want to answer the most important questions related to this five-day war: what were the causes of Russo-Georgian war, who started this war, who were the winners of this war and who lost it, who helped to end this war. Authors emphasize that the war showed weaknesses in NATO and EU security systems, as they did not react effectively to the forced border change and Russia’s territory occupation of an independent state. The war also showed cracks in Europe between Western powers that wanted to maintain good relations with Russia and Eastern European Countries at the same time.

The study was created thanks to the author’s preferences to learn increasingly more about new technologies that are able to increase the potential of internal security of the state. Recently, interest in recording areas (difficult to access, dangerous, monitored in adverse weather conditions, monitored due to the implementation of tasks by relevant services), the development of methods enabling the transmission of various materials at a distance, and performing other complicated activities have increased. For this purpose, unmanned aerial vehicles (so-called drones, UAVs) that are versatile in many respects are used. The author noticed the need to disseminate such innovative devices on native soil, especially for using them in multidirectional strengthening of the security sphere. Polish companies producing UAVs for many foreign customers have already marked their presence in this matter. The achievements of the designers are so impressive that it makes us appreciate the development of our technical thought, and above all, the use of drones to ensure security and public order in Poland. A series of training courses is already conducted by the Police Academy in Szczytno, which is a good solution both for teachers and, above all, for the trainees themselves. Such an initiative will undoubtedly translate into increased interest in drones, and especially the incredible usefulness of these devices for uniformed services and other entities.

The essay explores whether concealing humanness or emphasizing humanness is a more effective strategy for anti-drone activism that seeks to disrupt the conventional epistemologies of militarized surveillance. Building on Édouard Glissant’s decolonizing philosophy of relation and more recent theories of gender and surveillance such as Rachel Hall’s notion of “animal opacity,” the essay argues that poetry is one place we might find an answer to what seems like a binary problem of seeing versus unseeing humanity in technologically mediated aerial warfare. I illustrate that the 2016 poetry collection LOOK by Solmaz Sharif intervenes to suggest activism that steers readers away from the logics of recognition and toward the ethical potential of concealment. LOOK garners formal elements from lyric and experimental poetry traditions to employ a strategy of resistance-looking based in multiple valences of opacity.multiple valences of opacity.

A problem of delivering goods in a distribution network is considered in which, transport operations are carried out by a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The weather conditions in which a transport operations take place and a UAV battery level are taken into account. The above-mentioned weather conditions and the battery level affect the determination of the route guaranteeing collision-free delivery. The goods must be delivered to a specific node in a given time window. Specifying the route is the focus of this study. Solutions maximizing the level of customer satisfaction are sought. Computational experiments which show impact of the weather conditions to on route determination are presented.

Opis:
Not long time ago it seemed that on the modern battlefield some categories of weaponry – including artillery – will not play a major role. The conflict in the eastern Ukraine shows how wrong we were and that this view should be quickly revised. Undoubtedly the war in Donbas region showed, that the artillery still plays an important role in the conventional conflict. Moreover, we can conclude, that in certain cases the artillery usage is almost crucial. The importance of artillery usage is emphasized by the experts in military and observers of the Ukrainian conflict – some of them cite the data, that up to 85% of casualties on both sides are caused by the artillery fire.

The expansion of technology in all fields of human activity is progressing. Undoubtedly, security is a sphere where new solutions and devices are much needed. For example, unmanned and controlled flying vehicles are already known and used by security actors. However, thanks to the joint efforts of the scientific and research, technical and security communities, novel solutions with a specific purpose of protecting people continue to be developed. Such an effort is the European project FASTER (“First Responder Advanced Technologies for Safe and EfficienT Emergency Response”), which deals with new technologies for rescuers at the scene of a crisis. Among other things, this project has developed new drone applications. These include drone swarming, active terrain mapping, distracting an attacker, searching for people and assisting rescuers (in various ways). Of particular importance is the optimisation of operations, made possible by the common operational picture (COP) system providing communication and command of all technical and personnel resources of the rescue operation

Generic technologies are oftentimes heralded as overall beneficial drivers of innovation, especially regarding their flexibility, low cost of adaption (once established) and their inclusiveness toward a variety of actors. This paper adds to literature on innovation-studies by questioning these promises through the lenses of ‘lock in’ and ‘path dependencies’ and asks how generic approaches to innovation may contribute to a fallacy where increased flexibility is assumed yet implicitly, a sort of ‘lock in genericism’ may occur. The paper argues that, for all the advantages that come with the research and adaption of generic technologies, they also bring with them an increased risk of enamourment with innovations that are applicable to a range of potential applications that, in turn, may lead to more specific technological innovations being at the danger of becoming invisible / unwanted altogether. To investigate this phenomenon further, the paper applies the concept of ‘lock in genericism’ to the field of eVTOL-multicopter- / drone-innovation. In this context, the paper analyzes a series of three case-studies to investigate how this ‘lock-in genericism’ emerges from material, temporal and spatial components of drone-making and subsequently seeks to outline a framework for ‘integrating generic technologies’ in this particular field of application (of drones) to overcome the described lock-in in this field while maintaining their advantages. The paper concludes by discussing the relevance of the concept of ‘lock-in genericism’ on a broader level, highlighting the risk of a ‘generic turn’ in contemporary innovation practices that, in turn, requires critical reflection.

Next the assumption of conception of using unmanned aerial vehicles in courier services and a procedure of delivery of consignments were presented. Then for the real example of a drone there were conducted the calculation of real flight parameters and the forces effecting on a drone. At the end the economic aspect of using the drones in the courier services was calculated. Based on the results were discussed the usefulness of the use of of drones in courier services. In summary it was concluded that courier deliveries using the drones can be competitive in the future for the traditional methods of delivery. The cost of 1 parcel delivery can be even about 9% lower than so far. Consideration should be given that the prices used to estimate the cost of production machines are retail prices. The mass production of drones can bring savings in production costs in the range of 15-20%. The only element that does not allow to run the project of delivering items using the drones is the battery. The calculations show that at the proposed subassemblies the battery capacity allows only for a 7-minute flight. However, the works on the new sources of supply are conducted - lithium batteries, the anodes of pure lithium, the fuel cells.

Opis:
The following study is devoted to the phenomenon of unmanned aerial vehicles used throughout known history on the battlefield or for military purposes. The purpose of the following text is to familiarise the reader with an overview with the contemporary and historical employment of the unmanned vehicles on the battlefield. The study also aims to show that the concept of unmanned combat vehicles, also unmanned aerial combat vehicles, is far more ancient than is it is widely known. The article is based on theoretical research methods, mostly multinational academic literature. The author starts with an introduction on the role of limiting soldiers’ fatalities and the concept of removing military men from the battleground. Then, the author presents known examples of using unmanned ships in battles from Thucydides’ times to the invention of the Hell-burner of Antwerp. Further, the case of first unmanned combat aerial vehicle is presented, the bombing balloons from the nineteenth century, followed by a more contemporary study of the military use of unmanned aircrafts. The article is concluded with an analysis of the present employment of drones when they tend to substitute manned aircrafts on various occasions, especially when a mission is deemed “dull, dirty or dangerous”.
