Using [1], which is a local generalization of Gelfand's result for powerbounded operators, we first give a quantitative local extension of Lumer-Philips' result that states conditions under which a quasi-nilpotent dissipative operator vanishes. Secondly, we also improve Lumer-Phillips' theorem on strongly continuous semigroups of contraction operators.

The paper presents recent investigations of beach run-up phenomena at the Coastal Research Station of the Institute of Hydro-Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences at Lubiatowo, Poland. The local beach is typical of open-sea coasts of the south Baltic Sea, featuring multiple longshore bars that form predominantly dissipative systems. Measurements were taken to verify the existing formulas for the run-up height, bearing in mind that they had been derived for entirely different, oceanic conditions. The results indicate that these formulations can be adapted to south Baltic Sea conditions. This however, will require significantly larger data sets, which we intend to obtain in the near future.

Recently, there has been research on high frequency dissipative mufflers. However, research on shape optimization of hybrid mufflers that reduce broadband noise within a constrained space is sparse. In this paper, a hybrid muffler composed of a dissipative muffler and a reactive muffler within a constrained space is assessed. Using the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, a coupling wave equation for the perforated dissipative chamber is simplified into a four-pole matrix form. To efficiently find the optimal shape within a constrained space, a four-pole matrix system used to evaluate the acoustical performance of the sound transmission loss (STL) is eval- uated using a genetic algorithm (GA). A numerical case for eliminating a broadband venting noise is also introduced. To verify the reliability of a GA optimization, optimal noise abatements for two pure tones (500 Hz and 800 Hz) are exemplified. Before the GA operation can be carried out, the accuracy of the mathematical models has been checked using experimental data. Results indicate that the maximal STL is precisely located at the desired target tone. The optimal result of case studies for eliminating broadband noise also reveals that the overall sound power level (SWL) of the hybrid muffler can be reduced from 138.9 dB(A) to 84.5 dB(A), which is superior to other mufflers (a one-chamber dissipative and a one-chamber reactive muffler). Consequently, a successful approach used for the optimal design of the hybrid mufflers within a constrained space has been demonstrated.

Given a dissipative operator A on a complex Hilbert space H such that the quadratic form $f \mapsto Im\langle f,Af\rangle$ is closable, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for an extension of A to still be dissipative. As applications, we describe all maximally accretive extensions of strictly positive symmetric operators and all maximally dissipative extensions of a highly singular first-order operator on the interval.

Purpose: The present study investigates the survival and success of new organizations in the light of complex network theory. Methodology: The empirical data was collected using the survey method from the technology park companies are analyzed with social network analysis. Two main methods were used in this study: descriptive statistics and social network analysis. Findings: The findings indicate that new nodes appearing because of splitting up of bigger nodes from present or other related networks have a higher degree of centrality. In practice, this means that companies founded by former members of large-scale companies from these networks are more successful due to the ease in providing the flow of resources and information through previous links. This suggests that the imprint effect can be observed in the appearance, lifecycle, and performance of new nodes in complex networks. Originality: The literature lacks studies on new organizations’ lifecycle in complex networks despite the existence of studies about new organizations in organizational networks. This study examines the appearance, success, and survival of new organizations in networks by complex network approaches such as dynamism, dissipative structures, and uncertainties.

Two coupling superconducting qubits are studied for the quantum concurrence, discord, and Pancharatnam phase, for the X and Y states under the dephasing and instantaneous decay environment as well as their couplings. We find that the X and Y states are special mixed states according to the Bloch radius. In general, the larger the environment and phonon number are at the larger region of time, the larger the quantum concurrence and discord are. But we find that the environment correlations are helpful to implement the quantum computation. The Pancharatnam phases provide a way to distinguish the X and Y states.

Shattering of a brittle material such as glass occurs dynamically through a propagating failure wave, which however, can not be assigned to any of the classical wave. In this paper, we build a thermodynamically consistent theory based on the idea that a failure wave is analogous to a deflagration wave. Our theory admits, as special cases, the classical models of Feng and Clifton. Two fundamental thermodynamic functions form the basis of our theory. This approach allows for the construction of a new variational principle and a Lagrangian formulation. Finally, the theory is linearized to interpret specific experimental observations.

This paper announces an eight-term novel 3-D jerk chaotic system with three quadratic nonlinearities. The phase portraits of the novel jerk chaotic system are displayed and the qualitative properties of the jerk system are described. The novel jerk chaotic system has two equilibrium points, which are saddle-foci and unstable. The Lyapunov exponents of the novel jerk chaotic system are obtained as L1 = 0.20572, L2 = 0 and L3 = −1.20824. Since the sum of the Lyapunov exponents of the jerk chaotic system is negative, we conclude that the chaotic system is dissipative. The Kaplan-Yorke dimension of the novel jerk chaotic system is derived as DKY = 2.17026. Next, an adaptive controller is designed via backstepping control method to globally stabilize the novel jerk chaotic system with unknown parameters. Moreover, an adaptive controller is also designed via backstepping control method to achieve global chaos synchronization of the identical jerk chaotic systems with unknown parameters. The backstepping control method is a recursive procedure that links the choice of a Lyapunov function with the design of a controller and guarantees global asymptotic stability of strict feedback systems. MATLAB simulations have been depicted to illustrate the phase portraits of the novel jerk chaotic system and also the adaptive backstepping control results.

In this work, a two-dimensional finite element model for the grain boundary flow rule is developed based on the thermo-mechanical gradient-enhanced plasticity theory. The proposed model is temperature-dependent. A special attention is given to physical and micromechanical nature of dislocation interactions in combination with thermal activation on stored and dissipated energy. Thermodynamic conjugate microforces are decomposed into energetic and dissipative components. Correspondingly, two different grain boundary material length scales are present in the proposed model. Finally, numerical examples are solved in order to explore characteristics of the proposed grain boundary flow rule.

During the operation of the vehicle the friction in dissipative elements causes change of temperature mode. So there is a change in viscosity and volume of liquid. Also, change gas volume and pressure of elastic element. It has a significant impact on dissipative characteristic of suspensions as well as the elastic ones. The study of the rated model dedicated to the proces s of changing gas pressure and volume, as well as using as a working liquid oils with different densities and different viscosity changes depending on change of temperature mode. The rated model is presented basing on the elaboration, executed in Volgograd State Technical University in collaboration with Volgograd Engineering Company (ŤVMC" VgTZ). Researchers based on change of pressure of gas in elastic element at constant Volume; on change of volume of gas at constant pressure: on change of volume of liquid depending on used oil; on change of resistance of dissipative element at change of properties of liquid. In the paper example results of experimental researches of hvdromatic spring are presented. A comparison of resistance change of the shock-absorber at rise in temperature is worked out as well. Analysis of the obtained results indicates that essential influence has charting pressure.

The goal of this paper is to present a brief survey of our research that has focused on studying the dynamics of dissipative partial differential equations by performing computer as sisted proofs. We provide a description of the main ideas behind the computer assisted proofs that we have performed, along with related topics. The emphasis is given to the case of the vis cous Burgers equation with constant forcing, for which the existence of globally attracting fixed points has been established. To achieve this goal, we used a combination of analytical results with computer assistance.

The problem of delay-dependent dissipative analysis and control for stochastic singular systems with state delay is investigated in this paper. Delay-dependent dissipative condition for the stochastic singular systems with state delay is obtained by employing singular stochastic Lyapunov and LMI-based methods. Based on this condition, a delay-dependent dissipative controller is presented. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
