    The purpose of the paper is to highlight the risk of child disability in the period between birth and commencement of primary education. The first part of the paper analyses differences in defining the target group of early development support and intervention, a distinction is made between disability and the risk of disability. The paper describes selected concepts of early developmental support and traditional psychological concepts regarding human development. The second part of the paper presents concepts of speech and language disorders in children. The paper discusses the dependence between linguistic competencies and global development of a child and the problem of early development diagnosis and evaluation of cognitive functions, listing the methods and tools used to examine young children.

    Czas zamknięcia szkół i placówek oświatowych w czasie pandemii COVID-19 odsłonił istniejące nierówności społeczne pod względem dostępu do usług edukacyjnych i terapeutycznych w Polsce. Wprowadzenie obowiązkowego nauczania na odległość spowodowało, iż znaczna liczba uczniów (pochodzących z ubogich obszarów lub domów) ma utrudniony dostęp do nauki ze względu na ograniczone możliwości korzystania z nowych technologii oraz Internetu. W szczególnie trudnej sytuacji są osoby o specjalnych potrzebach rozwojowych i edukacyjnych oraz ich rodziny . Wiele z tych rodzin jest w niekorzystnej sytuacji ekonomicznej ze względu na duże koszty, jakie ponoszą na rehabilitację i różne terapie. W niniejszym artykule została opisana edukacja specjalna i terapia na odległość w czasach pandemii COVID-19 oraz po powtórnym uruchomieniu zajęć rewalidacyjno-wychowawczych w maju 2020 roku. Wyeksponowana została perspektywa nauczycieli, terapeutów oraz specjalistów pracujących w Ośrodku Rewalidacyjno-Edukacyjno-Wychowawczym. W artykule zostały zaprezentowane dane zebrane na podstawie wywiadu przeprowadzonego w trakcie zamknięcia ośrodka oraz po powtórnym uruchomieniu w nim zajęć specjalistycznych Wykorzystane zostały więc metody badawcze o charakterze jakościowym, które pozwoliły zarysować perspektywę mikro
    The time of closed schools and educational institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed existing social inequalities in terms of access to educational and therapeutic services in Poland. The introduction of compulsory remote teaching has made it difficult for a significant number of students (from poor areas or homes) to access education due to the limited possibilities of using new technologies and the internet. People with special developmental and educational needs and their families are in particularly difficult situations. Many of these families are disadvantaged due to the high costs they incur for rehabilitation and various therapies. This article describes special education and remote therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic and after relaunching revalidation and education classes in May 2020. The perspective of teachers, therapists and specialists working at the Educational, Rehabilitative and Pedagogical Centre was emphasized. The article presents the data collected on the basis of interview conducted during the closure of the Centre and after the relaunching of specialized classes. Therefore, qualitative research methods were used that allowed to outline the micro perspective.

    Artykuł przedstawia część rezultatów badawczych uzyskanych w ramach projektu dotyczącego treści i znaczenia charakterystyk osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu lekkim. Biorąc pod uwagę mnogość tekstów tego rodzaju ograniczono się do wyboru kilku najbardziej reprezentatywnych spośród nich. Zamierzeniem autorów było zwrócenie uwagi na potencjał tkwiący w tych opracowaniach i niebezpieczeństwa związane z nieprawidłowym ich odczytywaniem. Zaproszenie do przemyśleń na ten temat rozpoczęto od przedstawienia zasadności podjętych działań badawczych i ich założeń koncepcyjnych. W niniejszym artykule poddano analizie zagadnienia odnoszące się do właściwości rozwoju osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu lekkim, zróżnicowania wewnątrzgrupowego omawianej populacji, uwzględniania w charakterystykach grupy odniesienia, sposobu wartościowania opisywanych cech oraz ukazywania powiązań pomiędzy poszczególnymi właściwościami funkcjonowania opisywanej zbiorowości. Informacje dotyczące formy analizowanych charakterystyk zostaną przedstawione w kolejnej publikacji.
    The article presents some of the research results obtained under the project on the content and importance of the characteristics of people with mild intellectual disability. Taking into account the multitude of texts of this type, the selection of the most representative among them was limited. The authors' intention is to draw attention to the potential of these texts and the dangers of misreading them. The call for reflection began by presenting the legitimacy of the research activities undertaken and their conceptual assumptions. The issues relating to the developmental characteristics of persons with mild intellectual disabilities were examined, intra-group differentiation of the population concerned, taking into account in the characteristics of the reference group, the way in which the characteristics described are valued and the relationship between the different characteristics of the functioning of the described collective is shown. Information on the form of the analyzed characteristics will be presented in the next publication.

    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę terapii pacjentów z afazją – zaburzeniem dotyczącym ekspresji i/lub recepcji mowy. We wprowadzeniu zdefiniowano pojęcie afazji oraz zaburzeń rozwoju językowego. Następnie omówiono warunki diagnozy, podkreślając wagę interdyscyplinarnej współpracy w tym procesie oraz jego znaczenie dla wyboru właściwych form oddziaływań terapeutycznych. Kolejną część artykułu stanowi omówienie metod terapii stosowanych w afazji, w tym alternatywnych i wspomagających metod komunikacji (AAC), a także refleksja na temat specjalistycznych kwalifikacji niezbędnych do realizacji celów terapeutycznych wraz z próbą ich sformułowania.
    The article deals with the treatment of patients with aphasia – a disorder of speech expression and/or reception. The introduction defines the concept of aphasia and language development disorders. Then, the conditions of diagnosis have been discussed, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in the process and its importance for the selection of appropriate forms of therapeutic interaction. The next part of the article is a review of therapeutic methods in aphasia treatment with a reflection on specialist qualifications necessary to achieve therapeutic goals (as well as an attempt to formulate them), including alternative and augmentative communication methods (AAC).

    The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the program by assessing the caries prevalence DMFT (decayed, missing and filled teeth) and periodontal status CPITN (community periodontal index of treatment needs) indices. Fissure sealant retention was also assessed in vivo. Material and method: Preventive program consisted of supervised tooth brushing twice a day, tooth brushing with Duraphat paste (Colgate-Palmolive, Poland Sp. z o.o.; concentration of fluoride 5000 ppm), on 10 occasions over a year and sealant application to sound posterior teeth. For fissure sealing two different materials: Fuji VII and Helioseal F, were used by means of a split-mouth model. Altogether 87 teeth were sealed in 15 female patients age 16 to 25. A full oral examination was carried out before initiating the program and after two years of its application. Results: The preliminary examination showed a high (8.24) mean DMFT, a high (52.08%) percentage of bleeding quadrants and 22.2% calculus presence. After this 2 year preventive program no caries was detected in the fissure sealed teeth and material was present in 90.7% of those sealed with Fuji VII and 83% with Helioseal F. Bleeding and calculus presence decreased to 42.8% and 20.8% respectively. Conclusions: A combination of topical fluoridation and fissure sealing appears to be an effective method of caries prevention in people with mental retardation.
    Celem badań była ocena skuteczności zastosowanego profilaktycznego programu zdrowia jamy ustnej oparta na badaniach stomatologicznych z zastosowaniem epidemiologicznych wskaźników próchnicy DMFT (wskaźnik intensywności próchnicy określający zapadalność na próchnicę – decayed, missing and filled teeth; polski skrót: PUWZ) i chorób przyzębia CPITN (wskaźnik periodontologicznych potrzeb leczniczych – community periodontal index of treatment needs). Ponadto założono porównanie retencji materiałów uszczelniających in vivo. Materiał i metoda: Zastosowano program profilaktyczny składający się z nadzorowanego szczotkowania zębów 2 razy dziennie, 10-krotnego w ciągu roku szczotkowania uzębienia pastą Duraphat (stężenie fluoru 5000 ppm) oraz uszczelnienia bruzd zdrowych zębów tylnych. Do uszczelnienia zastosowano 2 rodzaje materiałów: oparty na żywicy Helioseal F i cement szkłojonomerowy Fuji VII metodą split-mouth, które założono w 87 zębach. Programem zostało objętych 15 osób płci żeńskiej w wieku od 16 do 25 lat. Badanie stanu jamy ustnej przeprowadzono przed wdrożeniem programu, a podczas jego trwania badano biorących udział w 6-miesięcznych odstępach. Badanie końcowe przeprowadzono po okresie dwóch lat od wdrożenia działań profilaktycznych. Wyniki: Badanie wstępne wykazało wysoką wartość PUWZ (8,24) oraz wysoki odsetek kwadrantów z krwawieniem (52,08%) i obecnością kamienia nazębnego (22,02%). W ostatnim badaniu po okresie 2 lat nie stwierdzono w żadnym z uszczelnianych zębów wystąpienia zmian próchnicowych, a utrzymanie się materiału uszczelniającego wynosiło 90,7% w przypadku Fuji VII i 83% w zębach uszczelnionych Helioseal F. Zmniejszyło się krwawienie z dziąseł (42,8%) oraz występowanie kamienia nazębnego (20,8%). Wnioski: Zastosowany program profilaktyczny oraz laki szczelinowe skutecznie zapobiegają próchnicy u osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną.

    The research aimed to find out the manifestations and rate of occurrence of problem behaviour among pupils with specific developmental learning disabilities in teachers’ reflections. Differences in the rate of occurrence of pupils’ problem behaviour were compared with regard to their current level of education, position in the class, and academic achievement. Data were gathered by content analysis of text documents – pupil pedagogical profiles including the Conners Rating Scale for teachers (1969, 1999). Data were processed by SPSS, the method of statistical inference, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance. A variability of SLD pupils’ behaviours was discovered. The most pronounced manifestations included internalising problem behaviours; externalising problem behaviours were mostly disruptive and inattentive behaviours. SLD pupils with poor academic achievement were characterised by significantly more frequent manifestations of problem behaviour.

    W artykule poruszona została problematyka narracji w perspektywie rozwojowej oraz w badaniach logopedycznych. Podjęto próbę przybliżenia przyczyny niepowodzeń narracyjnych w grupie osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu lekkim. Punktem wyjścia jest przyjęcie założenia, że sytuacja osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną jako twórcy wypowiedzi jest wyjątkowa. Zachowania językowe dokonują się w odmiennych warunkach, które najogólniej możemy nakreślić jako fragmentaryczną wiedzę o rzeczywistości, ograniczenia związane ze zrozumieniem zjawisk oraz docieranie do nich poprzez zmysły (zaburzenia percepcji). Dzieci z tej grupy nie tylko w sposób wolniejszy przyswajają sobie wiedzę o otaczającej rzeczywistości, ale czynią to w sposób fragmentaryczny.
    The paper discusses the problems of narrative from the developmental perspective and in logopedic examinations. It attempts to closely examine the causes of failures to produce narrative utterances in the group of people with mild intellectual disability. The starting point is the adopted assumption that the situation of an intellectually disabled person as an utterance producers is “exceptional”. Their linguistic behaviors take place in different conditions that can be outlined in most general terms as: fragmentary knowledge of reality, limitations connected with understanding phenomena and perceiving them through senses (perception disorders). Children in this group not only acquire the knowledge of the surrounding reality more slowly but do so in a fragmentary way.

    The article is a review concerning psychoeducation and ways of using it by teachers in the process of supporting the development and functioning of people with disability, chronic physical illness and mental disorders. There are presented some theoretical basis of psychoeducation as well as the areas, aims and some of the results of previous studies. Moreover, selected programs such as the Barcelona Psychoeducation Program, PEGASUS Program and Cracow Psychoeducation Program are also described.  Practical psychoeducational actions stimulate psychosocial development of people with disabilities and chronic illness. They make the rehabilitation and treatment process complete and in the case of mental disorders are an integral part of the therapy.
    Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy. Dotyczy zagadnień związanych z psychoedukacją oraz możliwościami jej zastosowania przez pedagogów w procesie wspomagania rozwoju i funkcjonowania osób z niepełnosprawnością, przewlekłymi chorobami somatycznymi oraz zaburzeniami psychicznymi. Przedstawione zostały nie tylko podstawy teoretyczne psychoedukacji, jej obszary, cele i niektóre wyniki dotychczasowych badań, ale również wybrane programy, w tym barceloński program psychoedukacyjny, program PEGASUS, a także krakowski program psychoedukacji. Praktyczne działania psychoedukacyjne stanowią formę stymulacji psychospołecznego rozwoju osób z niepełnosprawnością oraz chorobą przewlekłą. Dopełniają proces rehabilitacji i leczenia, a w przypadku zaburzeń psychicznych stanowią integralną część terapii.

    A child with pervasive developmental disorder shows the disturbances in the developmental dynamics, an effect that might be strengthened if autism or intellectual disorders have been diagnosed as well. This article is an attempt to compare the condition of the perceptual functions of an eight-year-old boy who suffers from multiple developmental disorders, that is, autism and moderate intellectual disorder, to that of the developmental age of a six-year-old child. The empirical data contain numerous observations, the studies based on the self-prepared questionnaires assessing the child’s psychomotor development, and the interviews with parents, teachers, and therapists. The outcomes show the disproportion between the examined cases and indicate significant development delay of the child with autism – absent in his healthy friend – which results in the decreased participation in his environment.

    Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę zastosowania teorii interakcji do analizy zachowań 8-letniego dziecka ze sprzężonymi zaburzeniami rozwoju – autyzmem i niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu umiarkowanym. Autyzm, rozumiany jako całościowe zaburzenie rozwojowe, w zdecydowanej większości przypadków współwystępuje z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, która dotyczy nie tylko sfery poznawczej, ale również możliwości społecznych i adaptacyjnych. Stąd w artykule podjęto próbę zróżnicowania mechanizmów doprowadzających do interferencji objawów zaburzeń interakcji dziecka ze sprzężonymi zaburzeniami rozwoju.
    The article aims to implement the interaction theory in order to analyse the behaviour of an eight-year-old boy with multiple-complex developmental disorders – autism and moderate intellectual disability. Autism, also called pervasive developmental disorder, in most cases co-occurs with intellectual disability that refers not only to the cognitive sphere but also to social and adaptive opportunities. Thus, this study is an attempt to differentiate the mechanisms that lead to interference of the symptoms of the child’s interactions conditioned by multiple-complex developmental disorder.

    Opis:
    The article presents the issue of the development of linguistic competence in the context of neurobiological research which points to the functional asymmetry of the brain. A reflection of this asymmetry is, among other things, lateralization of paired organs of the body. The author presents the results of studies indicating a connection between the development of lateralization and the development of language. She also emphasizes the need for therapeutic intervention for children with ambidexterity, cross or left-sided laterality. Moreover, the aim of the article is to sensitize people working with pre-school children to the issue of delays in dominance of paired organs.     Cel. Celem artykułu jest opisanie stylów życia dorosłych osób z lekką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Materiały i metody. Uwzględniając specyficzne możliwości intelektualne badanych osób oraz trudności komunikacyjne, w celu zebrania materiału empirycznego wykorzystano metodę dialogową. W badaniach wzięło udział dziesięć osób w wieku pomiędzy 25. a 45. rokiem życia z orzeczeniem o niepełnosprawności intelektualnej w stopniu lekkim. Uzyskane wyniki badań opracowano w perspektywie fenomenologiczno-hermeneutycznej. Wyniki. Badane osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną ze względu na analizowane zadnia rozwojowe charakteryzują różne style życia. Badanych, w przypadku pracy zawodowej, charakteryzuje zachowawczy styl życia, któremu odpowiada kategoria – „praca jako źródło środków finansowych”, styl – ograniczony, którego dopełnia kategoria „praca nie jest dla mnie”. Sytuację rodzinną charakteryzują następujące style: poszukujący – „szukam kogoś bliskiego”, wycofujący – „tak jest dobrze. Nie wiem, czy sobie poradzę”, a także nastawiony na działanie – „wejdę w związek małżeński”. Czas wolny badanych charakteryzują następujące style: nastawiony na tu i teraz – „domocentryczny”, nastawiony na działanie – „aktywność sportowa”, poszukujący – „lubię zwiedzać”. W przypadku kontaktów społecznych odnotowano styl zablokowany – „kontakty ograniczają się do rodziny i tych, których znam”, styl nastawiony na działanie – „mam grono pełnosprawnych znajomych i czuję się z nimi dobrze”. Aktywność obywatelską badanych charakteryzuje styl zachowawczy – „głosuję w wyborach lokalnych, ale na tych, których znam”, styl zablokowany – „nie znam się na polityce”. Wnioski. Style życia są zależne od zasobów badanych oraz ograniczeń, wynikających z niepełnosprawności intelektualnej, wcześniejszych doświadczeń oraz wsparcia społecznego. Przemiany w myśleniu o osobach niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, ich dorosłości i miejscu w świecie, otwierają przed nimi nowe możliwości dotyczące wyboru stylu życia. Im jednostka posiada mniejsze zasoby, tym istnieje większe zapotrzebowanie na wsparcie społeczne, które umożliwi jej wybór odpowiedniego stylu życia.
    Aim. The purpose of the article is to describe life styles of adults with light intellectual disabilities. Methods. Taking into account specific intellectual abilities of the researched persons, as well as difficulties in communication, a dialogue method was applied for collecting empirical material. The research covered ten people at the age of between 25 and 45 diagnosed with light intellectual disability. The results obtained were developed according to the hermeneutic phenomenology approach. Results. The intellectually disabled people under research, due to the analysed developmental tasks have various life styles. Those who work professionally maintain a rather a conservative life style in which work is perceived as “a source of money” and also a blocked style-limited, which is completed by the category “work is not for me.” The family situation can be characterized by the following styles: searching – “I am searching for somebody close to me”, withdrawing – “I feel OK this way. I do not know whether I can cope with it”, and also by a life style focused on acting – “I will enter into marriage”. Leisure time features the following styles: focused on here and now- “home centred”, focused on acting - “sports activities”, searching – “I like sightseeing”. As for social interactions, a blocked style can be observed – “contacts tend to limit to family members and those whom I know”, a life style focused on acting – “I have a group of intellectually able friends and I feel OK with them”. Their civic activity can be characterized by a conservative approach - “in local elections we vote for those whom we know”, a blocked style – “I am not familiar with politics”. Conclusions. Life styles of the researched people depend on their resources and limitations that result from their intellectual delay, earlier experience, as well as community support. Changes in the attitude towards people with intellectual disability, their adulthood and place in the world, open for them new possibilities related to their life style choices. The smaller resources an individual has, the greater need for community support is which makes it possible for them to choose an adequate life style.

    Opis:
    The article provides a reflection on the social inclusion of children and young people with IDD and associated psychiatric comorbidity through the eyes of practitioners and academics from Norway, Scotland, Sweden, and Romania. Using an autoethnographic approach to share the first-hand experiences of supporting children and young adults with IDD from the perspective of experienced practitioners, telling their stories (individual case studies) and mapping the challenges and successes (best practice) through these professional narratives. The article also acknowledges psychiatric comorbidity in young people with IDD and how psychiatric disorders can impact social inclusion. The results of the self-reflection of active practitioners involved with complex disabilities may serve as a guide for others in sharing best practices and facing difficulties. It also shows the policy developments on a timeline of their practice. Practice-informed issues clinicians and support staff face may aid the training and share the knowledge with other experts. The value added is the interprofessional exchange created by the international contributors.

    Emerging adulthood, in numerous individual biographies, also in the case of disabled people, is the time of permanent need for self-actualisation and time of verifying one’s subjective vision of “being an adult,” i.e. being responsible for one’s own decisions, pursuing professional and economic independence. Due to developmental acceleration, sociological shift in terms of undertaken roles and realized developmental tasks as well as their moratoriumlinked delays, it is also the time conducive to educational activity. This psychological time of a young person, its course and specificity depend, to a large extent, on numerous (micro-, mezo- and macro-) conditions of family life and social life in today’s world which is more competitive and less predictable than it used to be for generation of the late 1990s. All of these factors contribute to the fact that maturing to adulthood seems to be a state which is harder to achieve nowadays. It is displayed in the form of delaying the moment of taking up a job or other important decisions in family and relationship contexts.The study aims to present the selected aspects of daily life of disabled young adults, described in the context of developmental tasks of this period and considering the perspective of investment in relationships, development of one’s own resources, pursuing education and entering the job market which are all, from a temporal perspective, a chance of complementing one’s own identity.
