We determine the size levels for any function on the hyperspace of an arc as follows. Assume Z is a continuum and consider the following three conditions: 1) Z is a planar AR; 2) cut points of Z have component number two; 3) any true cyclic element of Z contains at most two cut points of Z. Then any size level for an arc satisfies 1)-3) and conversely, if Z satisfies 1)-3), then Z is a diameter level for some arc.

Opis:
Let $M_z$ be the operator of multiplication by z on a Banach space of functions analytic on a plane domain G. We say that $M_z$ is polynomially bounded if $∥M_p∥ ≤ C∥p∥_G$ for every polynomial p. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for $M_z$ to be polynomially bounded. We also characterize the finite-codimensional invariant subspaces and derive some spectral properties of the multiplication operator in case the underlying space is Hilbert.

We show that the geometric realization of a cyclic set has a natural, $S^1$-equivariant, cellular decomposition. As an application, we give another proof of a well-known isomorphism between cyclic homology of a cyclic space and $S^1$-equivariant Borel homology of its geometric realization.

Opis:
Cyclic pedigree selection for longer seminal roots was performed in the F₂, F₃ and F₄ generations of hybrid population of spring barley. The total length of roots was measured in seedlings grown in filter-paper rollers. The intensity of selection was 20% (C₁, C₂ cycles) and 26% (C₃). Selection was effective. On an average, the finally selected F₅-pedigrees formed 6% longer seminal root system than the initial F₂'s and much of them exhibited 7-16% improved rooting when compared with the best parent in a sand-vermiculite pot culture. Realized heritabilitiy coefficient of the root length ranged from 0.21 to 0.37 when assessed by the ratio of selection response to selection differential, while those estimated by the parent- offspring regressions attained 0.40-0.53. The obtained results suggest that progeny evaluation and/or selection delayed for later generations should be essential for more effective root selection in barley.

If a rotation α of has unbounded partial quotients then "most" of its skew-product diffeomorphic extensions to the 2-torus × defined by $C^1$ cocycles of topological degree zero enjoy nontrivial ergodic properties. In fact they admit a cyclic approximation with speed o(1/n) and have nondiscrete (simple) spectrum. Similar results are obtained for $C^r$ cocycles if α admits a sufficiently good approximation by rationals. For a.e. α and generic $C^1$ cocycles the speed can be improved to o(1/(nlogn)). For generic α and generic $C^r$ cocycles (r = 1,...,∞) the spectral measure of the skew product has a continuous component and Hausdorff dimension zero.

The type of a face f of a planar map is a sequence of degrees of vertices of f as they are encountered when traversing the boundary of f. A set of face types is found such that in any normal planar map there is a face with type from . The set has four infinite series of types as, in a certain sense, the minimum possible number. An analogous result is applied to obtain new upper bounds for the cyclic chromatic number of 3-connected planar maps.

We show that the poles of a resolvent coincide with the poles of its weak resolvent up to their orders, for operators on Hilbert space which have some cyclic properties. Using this, we show that a theorem similar to the Mlak theorem holds under milder conditions, if a given operator and its adjoint have cyclic vectors.

Opis:
Cyclic GMP (cGMP), a key messenger in several signal transduction pathways, is synthesized from GTP by a family of enzymes termed guanylyl cyclases, which are found in two forms: cytosolic (soluble) and membrane-bound (particulate). The past decade has brought significant progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie the regulation of particulate guanylyl cyclases and new members of their family have been identified. It has become more evident that the basic mechanism of catalysis of guanylyl cyclases is analogous to that recognized in adenylyl cyclases. Here we review the known basic mechanisms that contribute to the regulation of particulate guanylyl cyclases.

This review presents a brief account of the chemistry and mechanistic aspects of aryl H-phosphonates, and selected applications of this class of compounds as intermediates in the synthesis of a wide range of biologically important analogues of nucleoside phosphates, and oligonucleotides, in which the phosphate moieties are replaced by other structurally related groups. The aryl nucleoside H-phosphonates, compounds of controlled reactivity, have proven to be more versatile and superior to various mixed anhydrides as synthetic intermediates, particularly for preparation of nucleotide analogues bearing P-N or P-S bonds in various configurational arrangements at the phosphate moiety.
