Opis:: The article reconstructs selected contexts of police training in the United States of America. The narration concentrates on the historical origins of police training as well as on the dominant relevant trends in presentday American society. Furthermore, the paper seeks to compare the two ways of thinking about police training which influencethe training programs in police academies. The author presents methods of shaping the identity of policemen, the firstof which is a military model and the second one is an academic model. The text focuses moreover on the evolution of the operating system of the American police: from intervention-oriented to a community-oriented model, which is constantly gaining importance in some police training programs.

Opis:: This paper reports on the findings of these aspects of my own semi-ethnographic study which relate to the reader-oriented view of didactic discourse and emphasize the constitutive impact of social context (and the relations of power inscribed in it) on the formation of the writer’s self. Following Halliday’s (1978, 1994) approach to “language as a form of social practice” I will argue that power relations are a central force which mediates didactic discourse and profoundly affects the way student writers construct their authorial self.

Opis:: The article presents tradition-oriented as well as biographical narration as basic forms of learning in catechesis. Firstly, the Church is considered as a narrating-community and a place of learning. Secondly, the specific profile of learning processes in catechesis is elaborated. Furthermore, narration is described as an elementary form of learning and the functions of tradition-oriented as well as biography-oriented narration are pointed out. Finally, the various facets of the catechist’s role as narrator are explained.

Opis:: We współczesnym świecie na cechy środowiska mieszkaniowego mają wpływ dwa istotne modele: [I] model obcy – obywatel użytkownik, inaczej model chęci czasowego posiadania określonej inwestycji czy miejsca, związany z konsumpcjonizmem i nowoczesnymi formami zamieszkania. [II] model swojski – obywatel wspólnoty, trwania, tożsamości związany jest też z tradycyjnym typem środowiska mieszkaniowego. Te dwa modele odczytywane są z reguły jako pewien manifest niezgody. Nostalgia, bezpieczeństwo, trwanie, w opozycji do globalizacji, przemian technicznych. Zdezorientowani globalizacją, nasilaniem zachodzących przemian coraz częściej pytamy o przyszłość środowiska mieszkaniowego, jakie ono powinno być – tradycyjne czy supernowoczesne.
In the contemporary world, two significant models influence the features of a housing environment: [I] the model of an alien citizenly user, of willingness to possess a defined investment or place temporarily related to consumerism and modern dwelling forms, [II] the model of a familiar citizen within a community, of durability and identity related to the traditional type of housing environment. These two models are usually interpreted as a certain manifesto of discord: nostalgia, safety and continuity in opposition to globalization and technical transformations. Being disoriented by the globalization process and the intensification of oncoming changes, we ask more and more questions about the future of housing environment. What should it be like – traditional or ultramodern?
