The communication aspect of cross-border healthcare and translation and interpreting in this field are under-researched. This paper presents the results of a qualitative webpage content analysis of the multilingual websites of three Viennese abortion clinics. We investigate if and how content affected by a social and cultural taboo is (re)framed linguistically in versions addressed at patients from Poland, where abortion has been largely illegal since 1993. Our results show that awareness of the need for comprehensive target group-oriented information provision and quality translation and/or adaptation varies and that the Polish websites in our corpus tend to adopt a slightly different, more feminist and pro-choice point-of-view in comparison to the German versions.

W logopedycznej klasyfikacji zaburzeń mowy wydzielono grupę trudności, które wymagają od terapeutów-logopedów budowania w umysłach pacjentów zarówno kompetencji, jak i rozwijania sprawności percepcyjnych. Do tej grupy zalicza się m.in. pacjentów ze spektrum autyzmu oraz niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Są to często pacjenci, którzy nie opanowują mowy. Brak mowy nie przekreśla jednak możliwości budowania umiejętności komunikacyjnych u pacjentów. W artykule zaprezentowano przypadek pacjenta, który wykorzystuje w codziennym funkcjonowaniu wspomagające i alternatywne metody komunikacji (AAC) w postaci sytemu PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). Pacjent dzięki systemowi komunikacji wyraża swoje potrzeby, jak również rozwija potencjał poznawczy poprzez nabywanie nowych wiadomości i umiejętności. AAC stanową dla niego możliwość porozumiewania się oraz szeroko rozumianego uczenia.
In the speech therapy classification of speech disorders, a group of difficulties has been separated that require speech therapists to build in mind of pateients both competences and improve the functioning of skills. This group includes e. g. pateints with autism spectrum and intellectual disabilities. These are often patients who do not master speech. However, the lack of speech does not preclude the possibility of building communication skills in patients. The article presents the case of a patient who uses augmentative and alternative methods of communication (AAC) in the form od PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) in everyday functioning. Thanks to the communication system, the patient expresses his needs, as weell as developes his cognitive potential by acquiring new information and skills. For him, AAC i san opportunity to communicate and learn in a broad sense.

W artykule zostały omówione zagadnienia dotyczące specyfiki rozwoju mowy osób z zespołem Downa oraz terapii logopedycznej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem terapii komunikacji wspomagającej i alternatywnej (AAC). Przedstawiono historie (studium przypadku) trzech osób z zespołem Downa i niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, które opisano na podstawie rozmów z ich matkami. Analiza danych pozwoliła na zgromadzenie obszernego materiału badawczego wskazującego na trudności związane z procesem terapii logopedycznej pacjentów ze złożonymi potrzebami komunikacyjnymi. Zebrane dane pozwoliły również dostrzec potrzebę łączenia klasycznej terapii logopedycznej z terapią komunikacji wspomagającej i alternatywnej oraz szerszego edukowania społeczeństwa w zakresie AAC. W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowane zostały przykłady dobrych praktyk, których celem jest poprawa sytuacji osób ze złożonymi potrzebami komunikacyjnymi oraz ich rodzin w zakresie komunikacji.
The article discusses issues related to the specificity of speech development of people with Down syndrome and speech therapy, with particular emphasis on augmentative and alternative communication therapy (AAC). Stories (case studies) of three people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability are presented, based on conversations with their mothers. Data analysis allowed for the collection of extensive research material indicating difficulties associated with the process of speech therapy of patients with complex communication needs. Moreover, collected data allowed us to recognize the need to combine classic speech therapy with augmentative and alternative communication therapy and to educate society more broadly about AAC. The article presents examples of good practices aimed at improving the communication situation of people with complex communication needs and their families.

Opis:
There exist few publications describing the cases of children diagnosed with two rare diseases. Most of them are medical case studies. The purpose of the research was to describe the complex communication needs of a child and the resulting needs in the area of me as a person and in the home, social, educational, therapeutic and medical environment. The research involved a boy in early school age diagnosed with the Dandy-Walker syndrome and mucopolysaccharidosis type II (Hunter syndrome). The research was embedded in qualitative orientation using an individual case study. The research was conducted over a period of four years (2016 to 2020). The complex communication needs diagnosed in the boy triggered the following needs in the area of “me as a person”: to notice the effects of one’s actions, to have a sense of being a member of a group, to engage in activities that will help develop one’s own competencies and gain experience, and to be included in group activities. The research suggests that all of the above mentioned needs exist in the home and social environment area. In terms of education, it was determined that there is no need for a teaching assistant/aide who would know alternative methods of communication and could adapt the classroom to multimodal communication and train other persons. In terms of therapy, there was no need to create a controlled space in an institution, as therapy, the same as education, takes place in the boy’s home. In terms of medical care, Adam has all the above mentioned needs.
Publikacje opisujące przypadki dzieci ze zdiagnozowanymi dwiema chorobami rzadkimi są nieliczne. Najczęściej są to medyczne prace kazuistyczne. Celem badań przedstawionych w niniejszym artykule jest opisanie złożonych potrzeb komunikacyjnych dziecka i wynikających z nich potrzeb w obszarze „ja jako osoba”, w środowisku domowym, społecznym, edukacyjnym, terapeutycznym i medycznym. Badaniami objęto chłopca w młodszym wieku szkolnym ze zdiagnozowanym zespołem Dandy-Walkera i mukopolisacharydozą typu II (zespołem Huntera). Badania osadzono w orientacji jakościowej z wykorzystaniem indywidualnego studium przypadku. Były one prowadzone przez cztery lata (2016–2020). Zdiagnozowanie u chłopca złożonych potrzeb komunikacyjnych przyczyniło się do zaistnienia w obszarze „ja jako osoba” następujących potrzeb: dostrzegania skutków swojego działania, poczucia bycia członkiem grupy, aktywności, która przyczyni się do budowania własnych kompetencji i zdobywania doświadczenia oraz włączania w aktywności grupowe. W obszarze „środowisko domowe i społeczne” na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można wskazać, że zaistniały wszystkie wskazane potrzeby. W zakresie edukacji nie pojawiła się potrzeba zapewnienia nauczyciela wspomagającego/asystenta znającego alternatywne metody komunikacji, który dostosuje pomieszczenie do nauki pod kątem komunikacji wielomodalnej oraz przeszkoli inne osoby. Jeżeli chodzi o terapię, to nie zaistniała potrzeba stworzenia kontrolowanej przestrzeni w placówce, ponieważ – tak jak w przypadku edukacji – odbywa się ona także w domu chłopca. W zakresie opieki medycznej badane dziecko wykazuje wszystkie wskazane potrzeby.

Opis:
Teaching foreign language for professional purposes is subjected to constant alterations, following changes in the standards of language teaching and new teaching techniques focused on taking linguistic actions. In the past decades, it has evolved from lexically-oriented didactics of specialist texts to open forms of teaching, taking into account actual communicative and action needs resulting from the execution of specific professional tasks. More and more frequent consideration of requirements stated in competence profiles for specific occupations in course programmes influences even broader integration of knowledge and technical competence with linguistic actions taken in the social context. The article provides an overview of the development of glottodidactic discussion in the field of professional language didactics. It also deals with selected results of research on linguistic needs, conducted as part of the project JASNE-Alles klar! in more than 330 companies of Central Europe, and presents language competence profiles for designated occupational groups compiled on the basis of aforementioned research.
Nauczanie języków obcych dla potrzeb zawodowych podlega ciągłym przemianom, podążając za zmieniającymi się standardami kształcenia językowego i nowymi technikami nauczania ukierunkowanymi na podejmowanie działań językowych. W ciągu ostatnich dziesięcioleci przeszło ewolucję od zorientowanej leksykalnie dydaktyki tekstów specjalistycznych do otwartych form nauczania, uwzględniających realne potrzeby komunikacyjne i działaniowe wynikające z realizacji konkretnych zadań zawodowych. Coraz częstsze uwzględnianie w programach kursów wymagań określonych w profilach kompetencyjnych dla poszczególnych zawodów wpływa na jeszcze szerszą integrację wiedzy i kompetencji merytorycznych z podejmowaniem działań językowych w kontekście społecznym. Artykuł stanowi przegląd rozwoju myśli glottodydaktycznej na polu dydaktyki języków zawodowych. Omawia także wybrane wyniki badań potrzeb językowych, przeprowadzonych w ramach europejskiego projektu JASNE-Alles klar! w ponad 330 firmach regionu środkowoeuropejskiego oraz prezentuje opracowane na ich podstawie profile kompetencji językowych dla wybranych grup zawodowych.

The wide expansion of digital technologies has influenced research in all fields of science as well as educational activities. Scientific objective: The purpose of this article is to examine critical areas of academic library activity, in a significant or requiring far-reaching changes in all aspects, in the context of needs of the scientific community. Research methods: It was decided that the method that will allow to outline the situation in this area will be qualitative content analysis texts from leading journals. For this purpose, the main databases of Web of Science articles have been searched: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), using the instruction TS = (“academic library” OR “academic libraries” OR “university library” OR “university libraries”) AND TS = (scholars or scientists or faculty or researchers or academics). The query limited to the last five years yielded gave as results 170 articles, of which 51 were deemed relevant to the issues discussed. Results and conclusions: In the light of qualitative content analysis of those texts, it is possible to distinguish following areas as important: general approach of scholars and librarians to cooperation, practices of research support, access to information resources adapted to scholars’ needs, data curation support, publication strategies support. On this basis, conclusions have been drawn about the role and type of support that academic libraries may provide in the process of scholarly communication. Cognitive value: This study has contributed to the research into the evaluation of academic library’s support services in the process of scholarly communication.

Artykuł przedstawia podstawowe koncepcje oraz praktyczne zastosowanie w edukacji modelu osobowości Process Communication Model® opracowanego przez amerykańskiego psychologa klinicznego dr Taibiego Kahlera (Pauley, J., Bradley, D., Pauley J., 2002, s. xxiii). Model wskazuje jak skutecznie komunikować się uwzględniając różne typy osobowości poprzez używanie kanałów komunikacji oraz daje klucz do rozpoznawania potrzeb psychologicznych i wynikających z nich indywidualnych motywacji właściwych dla typu bazowego osobowości oraz fazy, czyli aktualnie dominującego typu (Kahler, 2008, s. 45–81, 111–116). Przedstawiono również praktyczne wnioski z zastosowania modelu w obszarze edukacji w szkołach na terenie USA (Donlan, 2003, s. 8-49).
The purpose of this article is to present the basic concepts and practical application of the Process Communication Model® in the field of education. PCM® is a psychological personality model developed by the American clinical psychologist Dr. Taibi Kahler (Pauley, J., Bradley, D., Pauley J., 2002, p. xxiii). The model shows how to communicate effectively taking into account different personality types by using communication channels and gives the key to recognizing psychological needs and the resulting individual motivations specific to the base type of personality and phase, i.e. the currently dominant personality type (Kahler, 2008, pp. 45-81, 111–116). Also practical conclusions from the application of the model in the field of education in schools in the USA are presented (Donlan, 2003, pp. 48-49).

Speech and language pathologists have an important role to play in the treatment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. There exists a large body of evidence regarding the efficacy of assessment protocols and treatment approaches for individuals with ASD. There is an ever-growing need for clinicians to adopt holistic, family-centred clinical practices, and this is particularly important within ASD, where clinical presentations are often varied. This study described the assessments and intervention programs used by one SLP in the treatment of a minimally verbal seven-year-old male with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. It found that the utilisation of multiple treatment programs may be required within therapy to provide individuals on the autism spectrum with high-quality, family-centred intervention. Further research into the development of clinically standardized procedures for selecting speech pathology interventions to promote client-centred practices is recommended.
Logopedzi odgrywają ważną rolę w leczeniu osób ze spektrum zaburzeń autystycznych. Istnieje wiele dowodów świadczących o skuteczności diagnozy i metod leczenia osób z ASD. Wciąż obserwuje się rosnącą potrzebę przyjęcia całościowych praktyk klinicznych, dostosowanych do indywidualnych potrzeb dziecka i jego rodziny, co jest szczególnie ważne w przypadku ASD, gdzie objawy kliniczne są często zróżnicowane. W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie diagnozy i terapii stosowanej w leczeniu prawie niemówiącego 7-letniego chłopca z rozpoznaniem spektrum zaburzeń autystycznych. Zwrócono jednocześnie uwagę, że w ramach terapii konieczne może okazać się łączenie wielu metod leczenia, by zapewnić optymalną rehabilitację osobom z ASD. Zalecane są dalsze badania nad opracowaniem klinicznie ustandaryzowanych procedur wyboru metod terapii logopedycznej w celu promowania praktyk skoncentrowanych na chorym.

Przedmiotem pracy jest ocena sposobu i siły oddziaływania różnych rodzajów mass mediów na decyzje podejmowane przez ludzi i na funkcjonowanie społeczności wiejskiej. Szczególnym celem pracy jest ocena oddziaływania środków masowego przekazu na decyzje mieszkańców w sferze ekonomicznej, edukacyjnej, w sferze kultury i rozrywki. Praca zawiera część teoretyczną napisaną przy wykorzystaniu literatury i część empiryczną napisaną przy wykorzystaniu badań ankietowych 100 osobowej populacji mieszkańców odwiedzających urząd gminy. Badania potwierdziły przyjęte hipotezy o powszechnym wykorzystaniu różnych mass mediów dla pozyskania informacji przydatnych dla celów zakupowych, edukacyjnych i kulturalnych. Z badań wynika, że mieszkańcy mają wartościujący, często krytyczny, stosunek do wiarygodności informacji przekazywanych przez mass media.
The subject of the work is to assess the manner and power of the influence of various types of mass media on the decisions made by people and on the functioning of a rural community. A particular purpose of the work is to assess the influence of mass media on the residents’ decisions in the sphere of economy, education, culture and entertainment. The work includes the theoretical part written using the literature and the empirical part written using surveys of the population of a 100 residents who visited the municipality’s office. The studies confirmed the assumed hypotheses about the widespread use of various mass media to obtain information useful for purchasing, educational and cultural purposes. The studies show that the residents have a valuating, often critical, attitude to the credibility of information provided by mass media.

Opis:
The increasingly diversified global workplace poses challenges to communication between different culture representatives. Thus the needs of workers should include intercultural skills, and this should be taken into consideration by teachers. The article looks at the evolution of the concept of needs and their assessment. It advocates for broadening the scope of needs analysis to include the needs related to intercultural communication. It reviews various approaches and practice of needs assessment and discusses needs in the global workplace.

In 2014 the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine forced thousands of people to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. The number of officially registered internally displaced persons (IDPs) has exceeded 1.76 million. More than 300 thousand of them are children. The aim of the paper is to present the results of sociological research “Study of socio-psychological needs of school-age children, displaced from the Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone (ATO)”. Quantitative and qualitative research methods, the survey of parents and teachers who work with IDP children have been applied. Results show IDP children do not have specific needs the satisfaction of which would require a separate intervention. On the contrary, there is a need for maximum integration in the social environment of the host community. The research was conducted within the framework of the project “Integration Through Dialogue”, 2015–2017, with the support of the European Commission.

Opis:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is associated with variable communication difficulties and disorders, mostly detected in pragmatic language abilities, sensory integration, and imitation. These components are important for a comprehensive speech-language therapy (SLT) intervention. This article describes the application of a new evaluation material for assessing imitation abilities, partial pragmatic abilities based on the recognition of graphical visual diagrams, and sensory integration in two boys with ASD (diagnosed with childhood autism in accordance with International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, WHO) with sensory integration difficulties, dyspraxia symptoms, and imitation skill disturbances. The main objective is to identify potential obstacles to SLT efficiency and the causes of disturbed pragmatic language abilities. The analysis of the case studies shows some progress in communication ability; however, some of the abilities related to sensory integration have been partially inhibited. In one case, we suggest the possible influence of the individual therapy based on the described detailed assessment.

Artykuł dotyczy powszechnie znanych i szeroko wykorzystywanych w nauczaniu zarządzania koncepcji, które albo nie wytrzymały weryfikacji naukowej, albo są mocno dyskusyjne bądź źle rozumiane i interpretowane. Trzy z nich, dotyczące kluczowych obszarów zarządzania, a mianowicie komunikacji, motywacji i zarządzania międzykulturowego, zostały poddane krytycznej ocenie. Obejmuje ona formułę 7-38-55 A. Mehrabiana, teorię hierarchii potrzeb A. Maslowa oraz koncepcję wymiarów kultury G. Hofstede. W artykule przedstawiono kulisy powstania wspomnianych koncepcji oraz ich ograniczenia, zawarte w nich błędy lub związane z nimi nieścisłości. W przypadku każdej z poddanych krytycznej analizie koncepcji zaproponowane zostały alternatywne propozycje.
The article concerns concepts widely known and used in teaching management, which either did not withstand scientific verification, or are highly controversial or misunderstood and misinterpreted. Three of them, relating to the key areas of management, namely communication, motivation and intercultural management, have been critically assessed. It covers the formula 7-38-55 by A. Mehrabian, the theory of the hierarchy of needs by A. Maslow and the concept of cultural dimensions by G. Hofstede. The article presents the background of the above mentioned concepts, their limitations, errors or inaccuracies. For each of the critically evaluated concepts, alternative concepts have been presented.

The article deals with the problems of psychological and social adaptation of students with special educational needs to studying in the university. Successful adaptation helps the student to accept new requirements, to build positive relationships with teachers and classmates, to actualize motives of self-realization, it develops personal growth. The authors describe the student`s cognitive, motivational, regulatory, communication difficulties; they also identify the main typological groups. As a result of the empirical research four main clusters of students were identified according to the investigated indicators. The leading tactics of assistance to students with special educational needs are described during designing their individual educational routes.
