Opis:
There are numerous algorithmic classification methods that attempt to address the connections between different scales of the atmosphere, such as EOFs, clustering, and neural nets. However, their relative strength lies in the description of the mean conditions, whereas extremes are poorly covered by them. A novel approach towards the identification of linkages between large-scale atmospheric fields and local extremes of meteorological parameters is presented in this paper. The principle is that a small number of objectively selected fields can be used to circumscribe a local meteorological parameter by way of regression. For each day, the regression coefficients form a kind of pattern which is used for a classification based on similarity. As it turns out, several classes are generated which contain days that constitute extreme atmospheric conditions and from which local meteorological parameters can be computed, yielding an indirect way of determining these local extremes just from large-scale information. The range of applications is large. (i) Not only local meteorological parameters can be subjected to such a regression based classification procedure. It can be extended to extreme indicators, such as threshold exceedances, yielding on the one hand the relevant atmospheric fields to describe those indicators, and on the other hand grouping days with “favourable atmospheric conditions”. This approach can be further extended by investigating networks of measurement stations from a region and describing, e.g., the probability for threshold exceedances at a given percentage of the network. (ii) The method can not only be used as a filtering tool to supply days in the current climate with extreme conditions, identified in an objective way. The method can be applied to climate model projections, using the previously found parameter-specific combinations of atmospheric fields. From those fields, as they constitute the modelled future climate, local time series can be generated which are then analysed with respect to the frequency and magnitude of future extremes. The method has sensitivities (i) due to the degree to which there are connections between large-scale fields and local meteorological parameters (measured, e.g., by the correlation) and (ii) due to the varying quality of the different fields (geopotential, temperature, humidity etc.) projected by the climate model.

Opis:
Current and future climate conditions and their impact on water balance, ecosystems, air quality and bio and agro-climatology were investigated in the region of the Lusatian Neisse within the two EU -projects – NEYMO and KLAPS. This work focuses on the climate analysis of the region at the German-Polish border as a preliminary step for a hydrological analysis of current and future conditions. Observed climatological data were processed and analysed using the indicators air temperature, precipitation, sunshine duration, potential evapotranspiration and the climatic water balance (CWB). The latter defines the difference between precipitation and potential evapotranspiration and is a measure for the climatological water availability in the region. Observations were used to statistically downscale data from Global Circulation Models under various scenarios regarding greenhouse gas emissions (A1B, RCP 2.6, RCP 8.5) and applying the WETTREG-method for regionalization. In total, 50 climate projections for periods up until the end of the 21st century were analysed, with the application of the mentioned indicators. For the period 1971-2010, increasing trends of temperature, precipitation, sunshine duration and potential evapotranspiration were found. This leads to a reduced CWB in the summer half-year (SHY), which could be partly compensated by an increase in the winter half-year (WHY). Trends of temperature, sunshine duration and potential evapotranspiration remain positive for the far future (2071-2100), but precipitation decreases. These climatic conditions aggravate water availability, especially in the SHY. Impacts on water management are very probable and were therefore further investigated in the NEY MO project that applied hydrological models.

Opis:
This study is an attempt to provide a comprehensive and synthetic characterisation of Słupsk climate based on a homogeneous series of daily measurements covering the longest possible period. Apart from the temperature and precipitation profiles derived from a 58-year examination record (1950-2007), the climate analysis also presents the distribution of other key weather components (atmospheric pressure, wind, relative humidity and cloud cover) in a shorter (1991-2007) time-span. The paper, which is a summary of the existing research into Słupsk climate, is directed not only at geographers (for whom it may be a significant reference in research concerning weather conditions in other Polish towns), but also at local residents and tourists, who choose Słupsk as their holiday destination.

The climatic parameters of the surroundings of monuments are of fundamental importance to their state of preservation and also to the rapidity of the processes that cause deterioration and decay in the building materials from which they are made. Nowadays, controlling climatic parameters is no longer a problem; however, it is difficult to accurately assess the findings and then to formulate them as conclusions that are useful for monument conservation practices. The aim of this article is to compile a ‘guide’ of sorts to facilitate analysing the impact of climate change on historic buildings. A criterion for evaluating their stability – introduced several years ago – and a new tool – the criterion for evaluating the object’s safe relative humidity level – have been used as tools in climate analysis. This method of analysis makes it possible not only to identify possible irregularities, but also to determine their causes. It is only possible to make informed adjustments to the climate once the causes have been identified. This is of vital importance for creating environmental conditions in museums, but above all for the huge stock of cultural assets which are and will be beyond the reach of a professional museum conservator, for their hosts, caretakers, and also for the conservation services that make the decisions about, for example, the possible installation of heating in historic churches. Any heating project should always be preceded by a comprehensive examination of the interior climate in order to be able to choose a type of heating that will not destabilize the environment and thus accelerate the deterioration processes.

Opis:
Studies associated with climate change and variability are of great importance at both the global and local scale in the global climate crisis. In this study, change-point detection and trend analysis were carried out on mean, maximum, minimum air temperatures and total precipitation based on monthly, seasonal and annual scale in Bartın province located in the western Black Sea Region of Turkey. For this aim, 4-different homogeneity tests (von Neumann test, Pettitt test, Buishand range test and standard normal homogeneity test) for changepoint detection, Modified Mann–Kendall test and Şen’s innovative trend test for trend analysis, and Sen’s slope test for the magnitude estimation of trends were used. According to the test results, the summer temperatures in particular show increasing trends at the 0.001 significance level. Mean maximum temperature in August, mean minimum temperature in June and August, and mean temperature in July and August are in increasing trend at the 0.001 significance level. Over a 51 year period (1965–2015) in Bartın province, the highest rate of change per decade in air temperatures is in August (0.55°C for Tmax, 0.46°C for Tmin and 0.43°C for Tmean) based on Sen’s slope. However, the study showed that apart from October precipitation, there is no significant trend in monthly, seasonal and annual precipitation in Bartın. Increasing trends in mentioned climate variables are also visually very clear and strong in Şen’s innovative trend method, and they comply with the statistical results. As a result, the study revealed some evidence that temperatures will increase in the future in Bartın and its environs.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the sensitivity of silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) from the Rudnik Forest District on the selected meteorological elements and to develop a chronology of local tree-ring width and the annual sensitivity. Based on the analysis, the site chronology of silver fir was developed and the strength of the relationship between the climate components and the width of annual rings was calculated. In addition, we examined the degree of homogeneity of short-term incremental response, rated the representativeness of the chronology and climate signal strength. Having analysed the indicator years, namely 1932–2013, we concluded that the growth of firs was positively influenced mainly by air temperature in winter, and to a lesser extent, by precipitation in spring and summer. The main factors that limit its growth are cold winters, cool and low rainfall summers, and rainy springs.

We review the three regional anastomosing fluvial systems, both ancient and modern. The dinosaur-bearing upper Triassic succession in Krasiejów (S Poland) is composed of siltstones and claystones that are divided into three facies associations. One of the fluvial associations is characterized by features typical of a low-energy anastomosing river system in a tropical semiarid climate, interpreted as the result of accumulation in deep, wide and low-sinuosity palaeochannels with pronounced vertical accretion. Deposition from suspension predominated in flows of very low stream power. The upper Neogene muddy succession in a tectonically active area (Kleczew Graben, central Poland) includes a great number of fluvial palaeochannels filled with sand and/or mud. These ribbon-shaped fluvial bodies are deep and wide, and represent channels showing very lim ited lateral migration. They were filled mostly under low-energy condi tions, and their mapped course shows an “anabranching” pattern in plan view. The palaeochannels are transitional from sand- to mud-dominated. The Holocene upper Narew River (NE Poland) represents a modern anastomosing fluvial system. The interconnected channels form an anabranching pattern. The channels are straight to slightly sinuous, relatively deep and wide. Interchannel, low-lying “islands” are covered by peat-forming plants. Despite the low stream power, in-channel deposition is dominated by sand transported as bedload. The channel banks are stabilised by vegetation, which effectively prevents their lateral migration.

Natural risks, particularly flood risk, are a topical subject in Algeria and throughout the world, particularly given the last major catastrophic floods in Sudan (2020) and North Africa. With the development of the climate change phenomenon in the world, risk management is becoming increasingly necessary for all the actors concerned (decision-makers, technicians, and the population) to identify protection issues. In 2018, in the extreme south of Algeria, In-Guezzam City suffered a devastating flood that caused significant damage and loss of human and material resources. More than 100 homes collapsed, and approximately 345 families were displaced. Currently, there is no research work to assess the hydrological situation and the risk of flooding in this region. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to shed light on the risk of flash floods in the extreme south of Algeria with more specific attention to the August 2018 floods as well as the climate trends over the past 30 years using Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s Slope Estimator. The chosen approach involves a hydrological study and hydrodynamic modeling using HEC-RAS software. This latter allows for simulating floods using statistical methods and creating several regional flood hazard maps.

Bibliometric analysis is a research method that is used to identify research gaps and the potential paths of empiric exploration of such categories that seemingly have been studied, but which in which enormous scientific and utilitarian capabilities remain undiscovered. Sustainable development is one such category. The purpose of this article is to present the development and evolution of scientific literature on sustainable development, and the research goal is to forecast the developmental directions for this category. Bibliometric analysis was used in the research. Scopus, the international interdisciplinary database, was the data source. Maps of co-occurrence of keywords relating to sustainable development were prepared in VOSviewer ver. 1.6.19. The results of the research provided new and crucial knowledge about the features of contemporary literature on sustainable development, determined following analysis of the content of selected open access journals that are representative for this field. The chronological aspect of research of the concept of sustainable development was also underlined. This, in the context of management development, resulted in essential conclusions and results pointing to the potential directions of development of the analysed area. The results also identify the key publications and journals for the subject being researched. This is one of the few works which features a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of sustainable development (Díaz-López et al., 2021; Nobanee et al., 2021; Yamaguchi et al., 2023; Zhu & Hua, 2017). The added value of the analyses is the information that was prepared in the form of rankings using bibliometric indicators such as the number of citations, number of articles cited, and the map of co-cited journals.

In this study we compared chydorid cladoceran (Chydoridae) taxa and assemblages from sediments of 6 Polish and 6 sq Finnish lakes and investigated if the difference in climate of these two countries can be detected in the cladoceran data. The data were analysed in terms of I) average relative proportions of chydorid taxa during the history of each lake and by 2) redundancy analysis (RDA) to explain the present effect of environmental variables (altitude, area, maximum depth, mean annual temperature, mean summer temperature and length of the growing season) on species abundances. The redundancy analysis (RDA) enabled us to distinguish groups of taxa I) with a high thermal preference 2) associated with small, cold-water lakes and 3) associated with shallow lakes. There are clear differences in the dominant chydorid taxa and in the relative proportions of many other chydorid taxa between the two countries since the end of the last glaciation. Although these differences first of all appear to reflect the climatic difference, the influence of many other environmental factors, controlling the living conditions of particular chydorids have been raised and considered. Further studies with larger data are needed before the role of climate can be reliably separated from other elements of environment.

Morpho-anatomical characteristics of Vaccinium myrtillus, V. uliginosum and V. vitis-idaea leaves from several sites of the Central Balkans were examined. The aim of this study was to investigate for the first time morpho-anatomical leaf traits of these species in the studied populations and to identify traits that follow a specific trend along the gradients of climate factors. Leaf traits that discriminate Vaccinium species were as follows: depth of the adaxial cuticule (AdC), thickness of the palisade tissue (PT), thickness of the spongy tissue (ST), height of the abaxial epidermal cells (AbE), height of the abaxial cuticule (AbC) and leaf thickness (LT). Populations of V. myrtillus were characterized by the smallest, and populations of V. vitis-idaea by the highest values for AdC, PT, ST, AbE and LT. Additionally, AbC was significantly larger for V. uliginosum in comparison to two other species. On the basis of morpho-anatomical traits, intraspecific variability of the studied species was explored by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Cluster Analysis (CA) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). CA based on 10 morpho-anatomical traits showed that populations of V. myrtillus and V. uliginosum that grew at lower altitudes (characterized by higher mean annual temperature) are more similar to each other. Especially V. myrtillus was responsive to the elevational gradient and exhibited the highest plasticity in morpho-anatomical leaf traits. Populations of V. vitis-idaea had a different pattern of differentiation along the elevational gradient. CA showed that the populations at the lowest and at the highest altitudes were more similar according to the morpho-anatomical leaf traits, meaning that evergreen leaves were more resistant to environmental conditions.

This paper presents the results of the urban indicators analysis conducted within Warsaw's ventilation corridors from 1992 to 2011. The literature review shows that the Floor Area Ratio (FaR) index is one of the best indicators to detect urban development; therefore, this was the core of the analysis. Three periods were analysed (1992 - 2002 - 2011), as such a long time-span allows the assumption that change will be visible. The ventilation corridors were divided into 500 m and 100 m grids and the FaR index was calculated for each cell. The results highlight alarming changes within some of the corridors, indicating areas that are crucial to sufficient air flow in Warsaw.

Opis:
The main objective was to explore the connection between flood and drought hazards and their impact on crop land and human migration. The Flood and Drought effect on Cropland Index (FDCI), hot spot analysis and the Global Regression Analysis method was applied for the identification of the relationship between human migration and flood and drought hazards. The spatial pattern and hot and cold spots of FDCI, spatial autocorrelation and Getis-OrdGi* statistic techniques were used respectively. The FDCI was taken as an explanatory variable and human migration was taken as a dependent variable in the environment of the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model which was applied to measure the impact of flood and drought hazards on human migration. FDCI suggests a z-score of 4.9, which shows that the impact of flood and drought frequency on crop land is highly clustered. In the case of the hot spots analysis, out of seventy districts in Uttar Pradesh twenty-one were classified as hot spot and eight were classified as cold spots with a confidence level of 90 to 99%. Hot spot indicate maximum and cold spots show minimum impact of flood and drought hazards on crop land. The impact of flood and drought hazards on human migration show that there are fourteen districts where migration out is far more than predicted while there are ten districts where migration out is far lower.

Two different approaches are applied for the investigation of possible changes within the climate regime – as an important component of vulnerability – on a regional scale for Saxony, Germany. Therefore data were applied from the output of the statistical climate models WETTREG2010 and WEREX-V for a projected period until 2100. In the first step, rain gauge-based precipitation regions with similar statistics have been classified. The results show that stable regions are mainly located in the Ore Mountains, while regions of higher uncertainty in terms of a climate signal exist particularly between the lowlands and mountains. In the second step, station-based data on precipitation, temperature and climatic water balance were interpolated by the regionalisation service RaKliDa. Model runs which lay closest to the observed data for the period 1968 to 2007 were identified. Therefore, regions of similar climates were classified and compared by means of a Taylor diagram. The derived patterns of the observed data are in good agreement with formerly defined climate regions. In the final step, anomalies of 10 yearlong averages from 2021 until 2090 were calculated and then spatially classified. The classification revealed four complex regions of changing climate conditions. The derived patterns show large differences in the spatial distribution of future precipitation and climatic water balance changes. In contrast, temperature anomalies are almost independent of these patterns and nearly equally distributed.

Changes in thermal and precipitation impacts to enviromental and economical conditions. Poland, who is one of fruits producer in Europe, can be fell changing in horticulture context. Statistical analysis on the basis of thermal-percipitation data from meteorogical station in Łącko, which is one on the oldest horticulture in Poland. This mountain region is unique in the country. However, the occurring thermal inversion and the microclimate makes horticulture to a very advanced level. Thermal and rainfall conditions may be change the nature of the land development in the future. The analyse results showed that thermal-precipitations changing fastest occur in summer season, next in spring. We increasingly recorded heat waves and hot days, which may cause economic losses. However, the occurrence of frosty and very frosty days is decreasing.

Energy and climate issues are an essential part of the sustainable development process of the EU countries. They are also one of the primary objectives of international policy, as evidenced by their inclusion in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN in 2015 among the Sustainable Development Goals. The implementation of these goals is also taking place in the EU countries. Although climate protection and energy transition activities have been undertaken in the EU for years, individual countries significantly vary in this regard. The aim of the research, the results of which are presented in this paper, was to analyze similarities between the EU countries in terms of sustainable energy and climate development. The analysis was conducted for all EU countries, based on 14 indicators characterizing energy and climate sustainability, in energy, climate, social and economic dimensions. Kohonen’s artificial neural networks were used for analysis. The research was conducted for data from the period between 2009-2018. The results showed that in the studied period (10 years), significant differences were found between the EU countries. A high level of energy and climate development was reported for Sweden, Denmark, Austria and France, among other states, and a low level for e.g., the Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria.

To increase the level of management efficiency in the agricultural sector of the economy, it is necessary to substantiate environmental protection measures for the restoration and rational use of natural resources, to ensure the implementation of the sustainable environmental management principles, considering the spatio-temporal patterns of changes in climate and bioclimatic potential of the territory. Using the methods of multivariate statistics and time series forecasting, regularities of changes in climatic conditions in the Steppe zone of Ukraine for 1945–2019 were established, and a forecast of changes in the bioclimatic potential of the region until 2030 was made. It was established that during the research period the average annual air temperature increased by 3.5 °C. The amount of annual atmospheric precipitation varied within 186–778 mm with a variation level of 27.2%, in the last 20 years it was determined to decrease by 40% – to 500–300 mm. It has been proven that the inertial probability of repeating hot years is estimated at 0.58, and the possibility of repeating wet years at 0.46. As a result of forecasting, it was determined that if the trend of climatic conditions is maintained, there will be a stable trend-cyclic increase in the average annual air temperature by 0.06 °C per year and a decrease in the amount of annual precipitation by 62.0 mm per year. This resulted in an 18.7% increase in solar radiation on the soil surface and a 26.0% decrease in climatic losses on soil formation, which reduced the rate of the natural ability to reproduce soil fertility. In particular, the bioproductivity of plants decreased by 62.0%, and the probability of its further decrease by 20% is predicted. Over the past 20 years, the coefficient of natural humidification has decreased by 66.4%, and it is predicted to decrease by 20%. The obtained results confirm significant climatic changes and their negative manifestations on the reduction of bioclimatic potential in the Steppe zone of Ukraine, the deterioration of agricultural production conditions, the reduction of harvests, the self-regenerating and self-regulating function of steppe soils.

Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) is a fast-growing tree species that produces economically attractive timber, provides ecological services and has high site adaptability, but it is only a minor component of European forests. This paper describes production, structure and diversity of sycamore-dominated forest stands that originated by succession on former agricultural lands in the Orlické hory Mts., the Czech Republic. The partial objectives were to determine impact of climatic factors on the radial growth of sycamore maple and evaluate the effect of game on natural regeneration. The number of sycamore seeds on the ground was on average 9–34 seeds m–2 and seedling mortality reached on average 89% caused by damage of hare and drought. Density of natural regeneration ranged from 1,532 to 4,244 recruits ha–1, but growth dynamic was strongly influenced by ungulate browsing (69%) with the largest losses in sycamore (96%). Analyses of climatic effects showed a significantly close relationship with growth of sycamore in submontane areas, being especially sensitive to extremely dry and cold winters or very high summer temperatures. Radial growth was more significantly influenced by monthly temperatures compared to precipitation, but increasing sum of annual precipitation was main positive driver factor of diameter increment. Radial growth had the strongest relationship with weather conditions in July and October of previous year and March of the current year. Stand volume ranged from 378 to 545 m3 ha–1 at age around 75 years, while sycamore accounted for 32–82%. The horizontal structure of the tree layer was mostly random to aggregated; resembling the clumped spatial pattern of natural regeneration. Besides their wood production, these stands fulfil many ecosystem functions that are associated with high ecological stability, high structural differentiation and medium to high species diversity.

Opis:
The paper analyses long-term variability in the wave climate near Lubiatowo, ca. 15 km east of Łeba harbor, and in the Gulf of Gdańsk, near the Vistula river mouth. The wave climate was reconstructed for the 1958-2001 period by the German Institute for Coastal Research (GKSS). Using basic statistical tools - empirical mean values of significant wave height, estimation of the number of threshold crossings above a prescribed value of that height and conditional empirical probability density functions of wave approach directions - a comparison of wave height at the two locations was executed. A substantial reduction in wave height inside the Gulf (sheltering effect) was measured. Further, the increased storminess over the winter season was estimated for the open sea location. Finally, the analysis of wave approach direction in the open sea location revealed substantial growth in extreme waves from the western sector. Given the geographic configuration of the Gulf and the combined rise in storminess and evolution in extreme wave direction, it can be inferred that the sheltering effect of the Gulf can vary depending on locations within the Gulf. Identification of sheltering patterns in the Gulf emerges as obvious follow-up research. This study could also prove useful in analyses aiming at integrated management of coastal zones in the Gulf, mainly in the implementation of Coastal Protection Law (Apr. 2003), which postulates maintenance of the 2001 shoreline configuration along the entire Polish coast.

Opis:
A major source of energy on Earth is solar irradiation. This paper uses the Kolmogorov-Zurbenko filter to smooth and examine sunspot numbers and proves that solar irradiation levels near Earth are strictly proportional to sunspot numbers. This paper also examines the transport of that energy through the atmosphere to Earth’s surface. Long term air temperatures on the surface of Earth perfectly follow the cosine square law along latitudes. Time components of long term temperatures have oscillations which follow oscillations in sunspot numbers, but due to the regular delays in energy transmission they are delayed 4-7 years. Cloud formations and vapor accumulations also contribute to those delays, which have a well-organized time-space structure. The main purpose of this paper is the numerical identification of human influence over changes in solar activities, which may allow researchers to identify the effects of various sources of those influences. This evaluation can only be achieved by separating the scales in order to avoid any false influence from other scales. The clear separation of scales can only be achieved using the Kolmogorov-Zurbenko filter.

The present study investigates the influence of seasonal dynamics on macrobenthic assemblages in four seasons of 2017—2018 from the central sector of Indian Sundarbans which is under the constant threat of climate change. Besides taxonomic analysis, a traitbased approach has also been applied to assess the change in their ecosystem functioning. The maximum species density (11675 ± 11883.31 ind. m−2) was observed during the spring season which declines considerably in the monsoon season (5875 ± 6224.08 ind. m−2). A total of 95 macrobenthic taxa were recorded from Sundarbans and they were dominated by families like Capitellidae, Donacidae, Magelonidae, Nereididae, Paraonidae and Spionidae. Overall, polychaetes have shown higher taxonomic and functional variation than other groups. Opportunistic polychaete species have shown a prominent compositional shift during post-monsoon seasons. Both the univariate and multivariate analyses have shown a significant relation between macrobenthic composition and environmental parameters. SIMPER has depicted that environmental parameters made the station 4 unique for several types of molluscs like Acteocina estriata, Stenothyra deltae and Meretrix meretrix during spring. Trait percentages also showed a seasonal succession pattern and among the trait categories, burrowers and deposit feeders dominated the estuary. A gradual increase in suspension feeders in spring has been noticed. RLQ approach with fourth-corner analysis was used to unravel the relationship between traits and environmental parameters. Hence, the present study provided a comprehensive idea about the species composition along with their trait categories from such a dynamic habitat. That could be the first stepping stone for a long term monitoring of macrobenthic assemblages from this largest delta on earth.

Every year, the climate change is gaining momentum. One of the primary objectives of the European Union is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, we need to keep in mind that even if carbon dioxide emissions levels will be reduced to the stated level it does not change the fact, that some climate changes are inevitable. Therefore it is now when the adaptive actions should be carried out, to adapt the economy, the local society and the environment. to the new reality. The aim of this paper is to present the stages of the weather risk analysis, which should be carried out by the farm owner to efficiently manage the weather risk. This stands an inherent element of adapting to the climate change. To emphasise the importance of the subject, also taking the concept of sustainable development into account, the introduction presents the social, economic and environmental dimensions of the climate change. This is followed by the weather risk identification methods, elements of an effective weather risk management in agriculture, the proposed financial and physical security, so that at the end of the present scheme of weather risk analysis in agricultural busines.

Opis:
Paintings inevitably bear severe mechanical loads during transportation.Understanding the dynamic characteristics of paintings helps to avoid damage during transportation and to effectively slow down their aging. In this contribution, the vibration characteristics of canvas and primed canvas of paintings and their influencing factors are studied experimentally. For this reason, two dummy paintings with canvas in a common orientation and a tilted orientation are investigated, and an experimental setup using an excitation mechanism and a laser Doppler vibrometer is developed. In order to avoid changes of the modal parameters related to humidity or temperature, all experiments were conducted in a climate box.The modal parameters of dummy paintings are identified by means of experimental modal analysis. Also, the difference in modal properties of the two dummy paintings before and after applying the primer are compared. The identified modal parameters are used to reconstruct their eigenmodes. From the identified modal parameters a numerical model is derived, which is then compared to measurements. The comparison shows a good agreement, hence is a hint for the correctness of assuming a modal structure and the quality of the modal parameter identification.Lastly, with the help of the climate box, the influences of humidity and temperature on the eigenfrequencies of dummy paintings are studied.

Opis:
In Bangladesh 164 million people depend on rice but due to climate change (CC) vulnerabilities the yield of rice is severely reducing. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects of CC on rice yield using recent trend analysis, Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test and correlation. For this study, the required climate and selected rice production data were collected from Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Khulna. In time series statistics both parametric and nonparametric methods were applied to detect a monotonic trend of climatic variability and Aman rice production. Correlation between climatic variability and rice production was also investigated. The study exposed that the temperature and rainfall had an increasing trend and statistically significant whereas the relative humidity found decreasing. Overall, the bright Sunshine had positive trend but week. According to nonparametric trend test of climatic variability and Aman yield only minimum temperature showed a positive trend which found statistically significant. In contrast, Mann-Kendall trend test revealed that rainfall had positively significant while temperature had negative significant. The correlation revealed the Aman production is a strong response with minimum temperature whereas the Lona Coche showed a positive correlation with maximum temperature. The variation of Aman production exhibited a positive correlation with both Rainfall and humidity respectively and Lona Coche found a negative correlation. The sunshine had a week correlation against both yields. The findings suggest should give attention of temperature-tolerant rice varieties to mitigate possible adverse effects of CC.

The aim of the article is to identify the key stimulants and destimulants of the investment climate for the Western Balkans countries. The investment climate was also compared in the European Union countries and the Western Balkans countries. The analysis covers 28 European Union member states and 4 Western Balkans countries. The research was conducted with the use of the development pattern method proposed by Hellwig. According to the results of the research for the year 2016, the low corporate tax rate is the main factor among those included in the study, which may encourage investment in the Western Balkans countries, and the low assessment of the rule of law may discourage it. The investment climate in the Western Balkans countries is relatively unfavorable compared to the European Union countries, and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina were classified into the group of countries with the worst investment climate.

Computers are used in the outdoors and in connection with cold store work. Cold hand and fingers limit data input, as studied here. Six input devices; trackballs, pens, and a mouse were tested by 19 participants in a Fitts' target acquisition task with 2 target sizes under 2 experimental conditions; warm and cold right hand. Measures were acquisition times, number of errors, participant's preferences, and observed handling of the devices. Effects of device, target size, and cold were significant. Learning and attempts to improve handgrip were confirmed. Large enough targets, a thick pen, and a mouse make computer work practicable in the cold. Direct visual feedback, as with pen on template with target images, shortened acquisition times by half a second.

The National Occupational Exposure Survey (NOES) was used to determine probabilities for 4 potential physical-agent and 10 potential ergonomic-related exposure hazards among a representative sample of U.S. industries. Potential physical-agent hazard exposures, principally whole-body and segmental vibration, were highest among railroad and heavy construction industries. Several construction industries had high probabilities of potential ergonomic-related exposure hazards, especially to the back and upper extremities. Establishments with 100 to 249 employees had the highest probability of potential exposures to the 2 types of hazards. Measures of safety and health climate did not differ consistently between high-hazard and low-hazard establishments. The approach taken in this paper may be used to help identify highrisk industries, evaluate interventions, and develop inspection strategies.

The aim of the paper was to confirm the proposition that the classical SST algorithms MCSST and NLSST originally prepared for AVHRR data could also be used for Meteosat/SEVIRI data with satisfactory accuracy in the mid-latitude region, where the spatial resolution is about 7×7 km. The research was performed in the southern Baltic Sea (between 13◦E 53◦N and 21◦E 58◦N). Data were collected in all the seasons of 2007. The coefficients were found by means of regression analysis. SSTs determined on the basis of AVHRR data were used in the regression analysis instead of in situ data. A set of paired AVHRR and SEVIRI images spaced no more than 8 minutes apart were compared. The results show that the method is capable of producing sea surface temperatures with a statistical error (standard deviation) of 1◦C.

Opis:
Detailed data on the response of plants to different climatic conditions could gain insight into the early impacts of climate change upon functioning ecosystems especially alpine ones, the most specialized. Petasites kablikianus (Asteraceae) is a species with montane and disjunctive distribution range, and it is one of the best objects to such investigations. In Polish high mountains, it is represented the best on the northern slopes of the Babia Góra massif (the Babiogórski National Park) and it occurs in two, independent zones: subalpine (landslides, rock rubbles) and lower montane zone (gravels on stream banks). The climatic differences between these two zones result in a morphological differentiation of specimens but mainly in differences in the dynamics of the life history of both populations. Detailed phenological observations and biometrical measurements were made on five plots on both gynodynamic and androdynamic shoots in their natural environment and after transplantation. The most important result is a fact that the subalpine population is completely phenologically isolated. Moreover the differences in the dates of beginning vegetation and in the duration and dynamics of particular stages of development and in morphological structure of individuals between the upper and lower populations were also stated. The results show that the adaptability of the species present a great potential to respond to the possible effects of global warming by modifying the life history and extending of distribution range for low-lying areas.

Opis:
While assessing the effects of climate change at global or regional scales, local factors responsible for climate change are generalized, which results in the averaging of effects. However, climate change assessment is required at a micro-scale to determine the severity of climate change. To ascertain the impact of spatial scales on climate change assessments, trends and shifts in annual and seasonal (monsoon and non-monsoon), rainfall and temperature (minimum, average and maximum) were determined at three different spatial resolutions in India (Ajmer city, Ajmer District and Rajasthan State). The Mann–Kendall (MK), MK test with pre-whitening of series (MK–PW), and Modified Mann–Kendall (MMK) test, along with other statistical techniques were used for the trend analysis. The Pettitt–Mann–Whitney (PMW) test was applied to detect the temporal shift in climatic parameters. The Sen’s slope and % change in rainfall and temperature were also estimated over the study period (35 years). The annual and seasonal average temperature indicates significant warming trends, when assessed at a fine spatial resolution (Ajmer city) compared to a coarser spatial resolution (Ajmer District and Rajasthan State resolutions). Increasing trend was observed in minimum, mean and maximum temperature at all spatial scales; however, trends were more pronounced at a finer spatial resolution (Ajmer city). The PMW test indicates only the significant shift in non-monsoon season rainfall, which shows an increase in rainfall after 1995 in Ajmer city. The Kurtosis and coefficient of variation also revealed significant climate change, when assessed at a finer spatial resolution (Ajmer city) compared to a coarser resolution. This shows the contribution of land use/land cover change and several other local anthropogenic activities on climate change. The results of this study can be useful for the identification of optimum climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies based on the severity of climate change at different spatial scales.
W analizie trendu wykorzystano test Manna–Kendalla (MK), test MK z wstępnym wygładzaniem (MK–KW), zmodyfikowany test Manna–Kendalla (MMK) i inne techniki statystyczne. Do wykrycia czasowych zmian parametrów klimatycznych użyto testu Pettitta–Manna–Whitneya (PMW). Średnie roczne i sezonowe wartości temperatury wskazywały istotną tendencję do ocieplania klimatu, kiedy oceny dokonywano w skali miasta, niż gdy analizie poddawano obszary o większej skali przestrzennej (dystrykt Ajmer i stan Rajasthan).

Należy przyjąć, iż część z nich wynika z warunków prowadzenia pomiarów, tj. subiektywnych odczytów danych prowadzonych przez obserwatora szczególnie w odniesieniu do pomiarów ręcznych, bądź z błędów w skalowaniu automatycznych przyrządów pomiarowych.
The analysis of archived meteorological data from Ukraine ascertained that some clear anomalies have been occurring. The analysis of existing anomalies has led to the conclusion that they have different origins. It is assumed that some of them are the result of the conditions of measurement i.e. subjective data readings being conducted by the observer, particularly with reference to manual measurements, or from errors in the automatic measuring instruments scaling. The changing conditions near the meteorological cage can also be the reasons for the occurrence of anomalies in the data. Buildings near the cage area, shrubs and trees can directly affect the results of conducted measurements.

Opis:
Pilotage operations require close interaction between human and machines. This complex sociotechnical system is necessary to safely and efficiently maneuver a vessel in constrained waters. A sociotechnical system consists of interdependent human- and technical variables that continuously must work together to be successful. This complexity is prone to errors, and statistics show that most these errors in the maritime domain are due to human components in the system (80 ? 85%). This explains the attention on research to reduce human errors. The current study deployed a systematic human error reduction and prediction approach (SHERPA) to shed light on error types and error remedies apparent in pilotage operations. Data was collected using interviews and observation. Hierarchical task analysis was performed and 55 tasks were analyzed using SHERPA. Findings suggests that communication and action omission errors are most prone to human errors in pilotage operations. Practical and theoretical implications of the results are discussed.

Effects of the climate change appear in several fields of the economy and agriculture can be considered as one of the most affected among them. In a country, where almost 10% of the total GDP is produced by the agricultural sector and more than 30% of the total work force is employed in this field, these changes may have severe economic impacts. As in Romania almost 65% of the agricultural production is represented by vegetal production, we concentrate our investigations on this agricultural sector. Our aim is to present, basing on econometric modeling, how the climate changes will affect the Romanian crop production in the next 20 years, highlighting the territorial differences which appear between the Romanian NUTS2 development regions. This paper presents some of the first results of the FP6 research project “CLAVIER – Climate Change and Variability: Impact on Central and Eastern Europe”, contract no. 037013 (2006-2009).

Opis:
Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time and several policies trying to mitigate this negative phenomenon have been implemented. The reduction of GHG emissions along with the improvement in energy efficiency and the increase in the share of energy consumption from renewable sources also constitute the European Union policy priority. In this context, the aim of this article is to explore factors that affect changes in CO2 emissions in the four EU member states that form the Visegrad Group, during the period 1993–2016. The analysis was conducted using the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition method and the Kaya identity, which enables the factors contributing most to the CO2 emissions changes to be identified. It also allows the results to be discussed in relation to the European Union’s climate policy. According to the decomposition analysis results, energy intensity and economic growth measured in terms of GDP per capita were the main factors driving changes in CO2 emissions across all countries considered. The emissions decrease resulted mainly from an improvement in energy efficiency and to a lesser extent from the change in the energy mix towards renewables.
Spadek emisji wynikał głównie z poprawy efektywności energetycznej i w mniejszym stopniu ze zmian koszyka energetycznego w stronę odnawialnych źródeł energii.

Opis:
Dryas octopetala is an important arctic alpine species, but its morphological analyses are scarce. The study deals with present European biogeographical structure based on morphology and its relations to the phylogenetic structure and the climate. Characters of leaves from 23 isolated populations were measured, statistically characterized and analyzed with the use of ANOVA and the discriminant analysis. All the features differentiated the tested samples significantly. Differences between plants representing regions were greater than between the samples within regions with regard to the four characters. The most visible division ran between the samples coming from the southern and the northern parts of the range, with the sample from the Western Scandinavia occupying the central position. Correlations between characters and climactic factors were shown, and the size of the leaf was associated mainly with the minimum temperatures of spring months, while the leaf shape with the rainfall during the summer months. Characters differentiating the regions and discriminating populations strongly were mostly dependent on the influence of the climate. The results of the present study were not fully consistent with the outcomes of the biogeographic molecular analyses of the researched species. Some parallels can be drawn when comparing the present analyses with the geographic differentiation of two other arctic-alpine shrubs Salix herbacea and S. reticulata. Although morphological diversity of Dryas octopetala showed a geographic structure, it was most probably shaped mainly by the influence of the environmental and climatic factors.

Opis:
Since climate change is broadly recognised as a threat multiplier, the environmental problems are considered in the sense of security. Academic articles are focused on analysing states, international non-governmental organisations, as well as regional entities such as the European Union as securitising actors. Limited attention has been given to the judiciary. This article fills the existing gap. The aim of the research is to analyse how do the Dutch Courts securitise the climate in adjudicating the case Urgenda Foundation v. The State of The Netherlands, through the lens of the securitisation theory. The implementation of discourse analysis as a research methodology has proved that the Dutch courts have contributed to environmental securitisation by ruling on the legal obligation of the Dutch government to prevent dangerous climate change in order to protect its citizens
