In this study, a mathematical method is proposed for calculating the concentration field of air ions of different polarities and dust levels in the passenger compartment, taking into account the geometry of the passenger compartment and seats, shelves, and other internal elements of the passenger compartment. The method also takes into account changes in the rate of the air flow ventilation, the location and number of ionizers, and sources of positive ions and dust, taking into account their different intensities and locations. On the basis of a numerical model for this method, software has been developed that allows users to carry out computational experiments without requiring much time for calculation. Based on the results, the optimal location of the ionizer in the passenger compartment of the car was determined to ensure comfortable conditions for the stay of passengers, which favorably affects their health. It has been found that the presence of two ionizers is optimal for creating comfort in the car with an ionization intensity of Qn= 0.47 ×1010 ions/s located at the top of the car. If there is one ionizer located on the dashboard or at the top of the car with a higher ionization rate than ions/s, it is not possible to simultaneously provide optimal ionization parameters for passengers in the front and rear seats of the car.

Artykuł poświęcony badaniom realnych średniorocznych przebiegów samochodów osobowych ogółem i w podziale na pojemność skokową ich silników, rodzaj paliwa, miejsce rejestracji oraz wiek w Polsce na przełomie lat 2013/2014. Badania, którymi objęto ponad 3,2 tys. pojazdów poprzedzono analizą czynników wpływających na poziom realizowanych przebiegów samochodami osobowymi, a także analizą kształtowania się przedmiotowych przebiegów w okresie ostatniego ćwierćwiecza w kilkudziesięciu najwyżej zmotoryzowanych krajach świata. Badania poprzedzono również omówieniem stosowanych na świecie metod badawczych oraz określeniem za pomocą stosowanych metod statystycznych wielkości próby badawczej zapewniającej uzyskanie wyników obciążonych akceptowalnym poziomem względnego błędu pomiarów.
The paper is dedicated to the research on the average real annual mileage of the passenger cars in total and divided according to the cubic capacity of their engines, type of fuel, place of the registration and the age, in Poland between 2013 and 2014. The research covering over 3.2 thousand vehicles, were preceded by the analysis of the factors affecting the level of mileages of the passenger cars, as well as the analysis of the course of those mileages over the last quarter of a century in the several dozens of most motorised countries in the world. The paper also contains discussion over the research methods used in the world and the statistical survey figures determined using those methods ensuring obtaining results burdened with the acceptable level of relative measurement error.

The article presents the results of the assessment of the impact of Eco-driving on the operation of vehicles. In the first part of the work, Eco-driving was characterized, then the results of the analysis and experimental studies of the discussed system were presented. Volvo v 70 and Renault Scenic were used for the tests. The article ends with a summary and the wording of the conclusions.

In the study presented similarities within 1533 notifications on passenger cars (subcategory of category motor vehicles)in the Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-food Products (RAPEX) in 2006-2017. The studies took into account passenger car brands and year, submitting country, origin country, risk type and entity taking measures. The cluster analysis using two-way joining in Statistica 12 was applied. The most frequently the following brands were notified: Renault, Peugeot, Citroën (originated from France) and Mercedes (from Germany). The number of notifications increased from 2006 to 2017. The passenger cars in the RAPEX were most commonly notified by Germany (it related to Mercedes). The most commonly risks, which were notified were injuries and also fire. The measures against to notified cars were usually taken by economic operator (manufacturer, distributor or importer).
W artykule przedstawiono podobieństwa w zakresie 1533 notyfikacji dotyczących samochodów osobowych (podkategoria kategorii pojazdy silnikowe) w Systemie Szybkiego Powiadamiania o Niebezpiecznych Produktach Nieżywnościowych (RAPEX) w latach 2006-2017. W badaniach wzięto pod uwagę marki samochodów osobowych oraz rok, kraj zgłaszający, kraj pochodzenia, typ ryzyka i podmiot podejmujący środki. Zastosowano analizę skupień z wykorzystaniem metody grupowania obiektów i cech w programie Statistica 12. Najczęściej notyfikowane były następujące marki: Renault, Peugeot Citroën (pochodzące z Francji) oraz Mercedes (z Niemiec). Ilość notyfikacji wzrosła od 2006 do 2017 roku. Samochody osobowe w systemie RAPEX były najczęściej notyfikowane przez Niemcy (dotyczy to Mercedesa). Najczęściej zgłaszanym ryzykiem były zranienia, a także ogień. Środki wobec notyfikowanych samochodów były zwykle podejmowane przez operatora ekonomicznego (producenta, dystrybutora lub importera).

The influence of hydrogen-methane blends application in SI engines on their CO2 emission is the main goal of this paper. The 1.6 litre engine alternatively fed with either petrol, CNG and with methane-hydrogen blends has been tested in the research program. The possibility of passenger car engine operation on H2-CH4 mixtures has been demonstrated in the paper, with the underlining of the potential of those mixtures in the increasing of the engine efficiency. Necessary changes in strategy of engine regulation, especially in air/fuel ratio, ignition advance and EGR rate, were noticed and prepared. The methane-hydrogen blends, which were used in the research programme featured ratios as follows: 5%, 10% and 15% of hydrogen. For selected engine operating points, following data has been acquired: in cylinder pressure variation, crank angle, manifold pressure and finally mass fuel consumption. On the basis of registered data for all fuels - burned temperature in cylinder has been estimated, as well as the charge combustion ratio, and the heat release rate. With help of mathematical model describing the exhaust gases formation it has been possible to estimate the NO, CO and CO2 emission level. Obtained results made it possible to compare the combustion process for all tested fuels and pointed on the significant influence of hydrogen percentage for the methane-hydrogen blends, on the CO2 emission reduction up to 20%. Negative aspects of chosen blends application have been also describe in the paper, especially of increasing engine thermal load.

A significant reduction of CO2 emission in the road transport is a major challenge for next years. In the combination with efficient powertrain technologies, the potential of natural gas is excellent for comparably light and cost effective reduction of CO2 and toxic emission in the future [1-2]. As the CNG fuelling stations in Poland are not so far widespread enough to make a dedicated natural gas vehicle practical, it results necessary to start with proposing alternatively CNG powered engines. Such a bi-fuel automotive engines are necessary to bridge the gap between petrol and natural gas. As a sample of modern engine design an Opel 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine has been selected as a base of powertrain for development of bi-fuelpassenger car engine. The influence of ignition timing on CNG combustion process has been presented in this paper. A 1.6 litre SI engine has been tested in the special program. For selected engine operating conditions, following data were acquired: in cylinder pressure, crank angle, fuel mass consumption and exhaust gases temperatures. For the settings of 6, 9, 12 and 15 deg crank angle timing advance correction, the internal temperature of combustion chamber has been estimated, as well as the charge combustion ratio and ratio of heat release were tested. With the help of the mathematical model, emissions of NO, CO and CO2 were additionally estimated. Obtained results made it possible to compare the influence of ignition timing advance on natural gas combustion in SI engine.

Due to the poor evaluation of the design of Japanese cars in the European market, this study proposes an evaluation to improve the rating of Japanese cars by Europeans. First, the concept of passenger car design evaluation is defined. Based on this definition, the appearance of a front image of a passenger car is decomposed into primitive components, and each component is analyzed in terms of shape, size, and position information. The shape information can be evaluated by two quantitative methods: Fourier series expression and aspect ratio calculation. To validate the evaluation method, five Volkswagen, four Peugeot, and three Toyota cars are sampled. The analysis indicates obvious differences in the headlights and radiator grille. Furthermore, a design modification method is proposed. Because design differences between European and Japanese cars are quantitatively evaluated, identifying necessary modifications should be easy. As a trial, one Toyota car design is modified by changing the features of the radiator grille and headlights to more closely resemble the characteristic shape of European cars. Then to validate the design modification, a design image investigation is conducted with the cooperation of 39 German citizens. This investigation demonstrates the design evaluation is effectively improved by altering the design of the headlights and radiator grille.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń przebiegowego zużycia paliwa metodą energochłonności ruchu i bilansu węgla na podstawie dynamicznych map emisji CO2. Zestawienią wyników obliczeń dla miejskiego i drogowego cyklu jezdnego potwierdziło słuszność przyjętej przez autora metody wyznaczania mapy wzrostu jednostkowego zużycia paliwa w niestacjonarnych warunkach pracy i zainspirowały do korekty metody bilansu węgla.
Calculation results of mileage fuel consumption applying the method of energy consumption of driving as well as coal balance which takes into consideration CO2 emission dynamic maps have been presented in the paper. The comparison of calculation results of driving in the city and those of long distance driving confirmed that the methods of assigning the maps of the increase of unitary fuel consumptuon in non-stationary work conditions chosen by the writer of this paper seemed to be most appropriate. It encouraged to make the necessary corrections of the coal balance method.

Almost every voyage culminates in a manoeuvre to berth the ship safely along a quay or wharf. During this phase a ship is affected by a number of factors, one of them being wind. This paper seeks to understand how wind affect a ship in regards of power consumption during berthing. A field study was conducted on a car passenger ferry, where every approach in one harbour was logged and analysed over a period of four months. The goal was to provide greater knowledge about energy usage and the study presents several interesting findings. It is estimated that power consumption is stable when the median wind speed is less than 4 m/s. Stronger winds have a significant effect on power consumption, e.g 17 m/s gives an 106,31% increase from calm conditions. Furthermore there is not discovered any correlation between consumption and wind direction in this study.

The aim of this study was to compare instantaneous fuel consumption of a FIAT Panda car with three types of propulsion system applied: engine positioned front-lengthwise to the direction of travel and rear-wheel drive, engine positioned front-transversely to the direction of travel and front - wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The vehicle was equipped with a 1.3 JTD MultiJet compression-ignition engine being used for conducting experimental tests. This part was based on making the load characteristics (relationship between specific fuel consumption and engine torque) using engine dynamometer. This was made for given parameters corresponding to specific traffic conditions. They were determined in a simulation and were represented by rolling resistance and air resistance. Their value was affected by vehicle technical and operating characteristics and its design features, such as maximum weight, transmission system ratios, dynamic wheel radius, drag coefficient, width and height, and efficiency of propulsion system. The efficiency of power train system was adopted from a simulation conducted for different types of propulsion system. Apart from basic resistance, additional drag (inertia resistance) was the most important in vehicle energy balance. It played an important role in determining the value of instantaneous fuel consumption for variable velocity and constant acceleration values used in the UDC test (Urban Driving Cycle – subtest of the EUDC cycle). The lowest fuel consumption for a given car velocity was for front-wheel drive transmission system, whereas the highest for allwheel drive system (4x4).

The efficiency of transmission was adopted from a simulation for different types of propulsion system. It was important in determination of the value of instantaneous fuel consumption for constant vehicle velocities used in the UDC test (Urban Driving Cycle – subtest of the EUDC cycle). The lowest fuel consumption for a given speed of a car occurred for the front-wheel drive transmission system, whereas the highest for the all-wheel drive system (4x4).

The subject of this article is a comparative analysis of exhaust emissions for: HC (hydrocarbons), CO (carbon monoxide), CO2 (carbon dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxides) from a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle in laboratory conditions on a dynamometer station. The first vehicle category was represented by a compression-ignition engine with a displacement volume of 1.3 dm3 and a power of 66 kW. The exhaust aftertreatment system included a catalytic converter and a particulate filter. The second category was a motorcycle, equipped with an engine with a displacement of 0.7 dm3 and a maximum power of 55 kW. The two-wheeled vehicle was equipped with a three-way catalytic converter. Speeds were modeled on the European type approval test - NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). In order to conduct a comparative analysis of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption from vehicles of different categories, the obtained results were presented in the form of emissions converted into passenger-kilometers (g/pkm). The research used modern equipment belonging to the PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement Systems) group of devices. The analyzes carried out enable the decision making on which vehicles have a greater environmental impact due to their exhaust emissions, taking into account the distance and the number of passengers carried.

Z uwagi na złożoność układu zawieszenia pojazdu, którego elementem jest amortyzator, i wynikającą z tego problematyką odseparowania jego symptomów diagnostycznych, koncepcję postanowiono rozszerzyć o cały system diagnostyczny. W ramach badań przeprowadzono serie pomiarów w stacjach kontroli pojazdów w celu zebrania dostatecznej bazy wiedzy. W projekcie systemu zastosowano algorytmy matematyczne i klasyfikatory neuronowe zaimplementowane do programu Matlab.
The paper presents conception of new shock-absorber technical condition identification method. Due to complexity of vehicle suspension, which part is shock-absorber, there is a problem with separate of diagnostics symptoms. That is the reason to increase conception to whole diagnostic system. It were measures research conducted in vehicle research station to create usefully data base. It were used mathematics algorithms and neural network classificatory implementation to Matlab.

Opis:
The main aim of this study is to carry out dynamic finite element analysis of a collision between shunting locomotive and a passenger car. Numerical simulations include side impact of the running locomotive in the vehicle situated across the track on a level crossing. A considered locomotive based on a popular diesel-electric shunting locomotive SM42 but it was slightly modernized in comparison with the original. Finite element model of the locomotive was developed by the authors whereas the vehicle FE model was download from the National Crashworthiness Analysis Center database and it was dedicated to the crash/impact analyses. FE analysis was carried out according to the PN-EN 15227 standard which provides crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicle bodies. However, additional objective of the analysis was to evaluate the behaviour of a small passenger car during the side impact with about 70-ton locomotive. A subcompact passenger car – Geo Metro – was selected as a representative for the study. One of the design collision scenario impact into low obstacle for railway vehicles operated on national and regional networks. LS-DYNA computer code was used for the simulations. The paper presents selected results of analysis generally focused on the locomotive frame behaviour. Contour of stress for the moment of time is presented. Moreover, time histories of selected parameters are depicted. The energy balance was also checked in order to confirm the accuracy of analysis.
