Opis:
A pulsed capillary discharge has been the subject of various experimental and theoretical studies. A jet of copperhydrogen plasma with a cylindrical symmetry has been developed as a light source for spectroscopic measurements. The electron density of the plasma was obtained by using the Hβ spectral line of the hydrogen component plasma. The electron temperature was determined by means of the Boltzmann method applied to the copper profiles emitted by the plasma jet. The copper and hydrogen lines were broadened principally by the Stark effect. The electron density of the plasma was found to be about 2×1017 cm–3 and the electron temperature about 20000K.

Opis:
Among all known inorganic pollutants of wastewater and natural water that adversely affect water bodies, different living organisms and human beings, iron compounds are the most common. Before discharging the wastewater into water bodies, it is important to remove iron ions from wastewater. The application of capillary materials in water and wastewater treatment is a promising direction of ecology and technology. The capillary properties of materials allow the development of quite simple, autonomous, highly efficient and energy-saving systems for water purification. The aim of the present paper was the investigation of the influence of the basic conditions of the filtration process with the application of capillary materia on the efficiency of iron ions removal. The initial concentration of the model solution, pH and temperature of the filtration process, as well as the contact area of the liquid phase with oxygen of the air were studied. The proposed method is appropriate for the treatment of water in the concentration range from 5 to 10 mg/dm3 with an optimum pH in the range of 4–7. The experimental data showed high efficiency of capillary materials application, providing sufficient removal of iron ions from low concentrated solutions, compared to the traditional method of precipitation. The main advantage of the capillary materials is the simplicity of their application, quite high degree of purification and there no need to consume electricity or additional reagents, which allows creating autonomous water treatment facilities and plants.

The analysis of milk and dairy products is essential during production, quality control, and understanding the factors that cause food allergies. Milk is one of many examples of biocolloids. Numerous studies show that capillary electrophoresis and capillary isoelectric focusing is an excellent tool for this type of analysis. In addition, the coupling of these techniques with other analytical methods such as MALDI-TOF MS or ESI-MS enables the improvement of the quality of analyzes, allows the separation of proteins close to the isoelectric point values. This short overview summarizes the possibilities of using electromigration techniques in the proteomic and microbiological analysis of milk and milk products.

Opis:
In this paper, a porous medium is modelled by a network of converging-diverging capillaries which may be considered as fissures or tubes. This model makes it necessary to consider flows through capillary fissures or tubes. Therefore an analytical method for deriving the relationships between pressure drops, volumetric flow rates and velocities for the following fluids: Newtonian, polar, power-law, pseudoplastic (DeHaven and Sisko types) and Shulmanian, was developed. Next, considerations on the models of pore network for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids were presented. The models, similar to the schemes of central finite differences may provide a good basis for transforming the governing equations of a flow through the porous medium into a set of linear or quasi-linear algebraic equations. It was shown that the some coefficients in these algebraic equations depend on the kind of the capillary convergence.

An analytical method for determination of pesticide Glyphosate in water as a combination of cation-exchange chromatography and capillary electrophoresis is presented. Pure water was spiked with Glyphosate at concentrations 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mM and percolated through a strong cation-exchange column packed with Dowex 50WX4-400 resin in its H+ form. The extract was further analyzed by capillary electrophoresis in indirect detection mode. The calibration curve for the pesticide in the range 0.1–2.5 mM was linear and with high degree of reproducibility. The obtained recoveries for all the studied concentrations amount 85%. Afterwards, the possibility to determine Glyphosate at the concentration 0.001mM (0.17 µg/ml) was checked by percolation of 100 ml of water sample through a column. The calculated recovery was 97.7%

Opis:
Micro-bearings have many applications in computer devices, such as CPU fans or hard disc drives. So far, rolling bearings and slide bearings have been used, for example micro-bearing with smooth Journal and sleeve surface, which is known as FDB - Fluid Dynamic Bearing. Actually, latter versions of micro-bearings are being launched to the market: Ex-FDB - Extra Fluid Dynamic Bearing. This type of bearings was fabricated by putting some micro-grooves filled with oil on its interna! surfaces. Ex-FDB's are characterized by reduced level of generated noise and guarantee long failure-free fan life, reaching 120 000 hours. In this paper we present our numerical calculations of the friction force and the friction coefficient in the parabolic micro-bearing. Micro-bearing gap height is very low, often less then l micrometer, therefore capillarity and adhesion forces cause an increase of oil viscosity near the Journal and sleeve surfaces. Due to this fact a value of hydrodynamic pressure in micro-bearing gap also increases, what results in observed changes of capacity, friction forces and friction coefficient values. The influence of adhesion and capillarity on friction force and friction coefficient of oil in micro-bearing hasn't been considered from analytical point of view so far. This paper presents numerical results of computed values of friction forces and friction coefficient for parabolic micro-bearing in comparison to values for classical parabolic bearing.

In all measurement systems of radiation, the detector is the most important part. We can say that it is the heart of these systems. Gas detectors are still the most popular type of detector. Modern technologies allow manufacturing gas detectors having a very good energy and position (2D) resolution, high efficiency, large effective area, small count rate effect, radiation hardness, good signal-to-noise ratio and not complicated structure. These detectors are very fast and can stably work for a long period of time. One advantage of gas detectors is the possibility to read not only charge, but also UV light generated in the detector. In this paper we want to make a review of construction, mechanical properties, performance and possible applications of the following so-called micropattern gas detectors (MPGD): microstrip gas chamber (MSGC), gas electron multiplier (GEM), MICRO-MEsh GAseous Structure (MICROMEGAS) and capillary plate detector (CP).

Present paper shows the some main phenomena which have important influence on the micro-bearing operating parameters. To above mentioned phenomena belong: adhesion forces, adsorption forces, capillary forces, elastic and hyperelastic deformations of cooperating micro-bearing surfaces, Van-der Waals electrostatic forces on the micro-bearing surfaces. Because the height of super thin micro-bearing gap is very small often smaller than l micrometer, hence the adhesion forces and capillary forces arising in micro-bearing gap, provoke the oil dynamic viscosity changes. This fact leads to the hydrodynamic pressure and bearing carrying capacity changes. The performed research play off the main role of mechanical micro-deformations of cooperating micro-bearing surfaces on non-Newtonian oil dynamic viscosity and here are indicated the influence of capillary force on adhesion forces in micro-scale. The micro-deformations of the micro-bearing gap height are effecting the changes of oil flow velocity in the gap, this fact leads to the share rate changes and therefore we obtain changes of apparent viscosity of the non-Newtonian oil.

The research presented in the article concerns expansion of water in walls made from ceramic bricks coming from three different factories. In order to ensure comparability of the results, bricks of the same strength class were chosen for the experiment. The laboratory tests included simulation of water action on the walls made from the three different kinds of bricks. The presence of water in the walls is the result of condensation, but also be connected with unpredictable situation which take place in some cases, for example: breakdown or malfunction of the installation, damage of the hydroinsulation of the foundation walls or appearing of flood water. The classic gravimetric method was applied in the research. The courses of capillary action registered in the experiment indicated at considerable differences between particular groups of the samples researched. The tests showed strongly differentiated values of the sorption coefficient A of the materials coming from the three producers. In the extreme case the difference reached more than 100%.
