Opis:
The article discusses the paradoxes of existence as represented in Diaries of Yevhen Malanyuk (1897–1968), one of the most influential Ukrainian poets and intellectuals of the twentieth century. Taking into account Malanyuk’s biography and poetic heritage, three types of the image of “the author” have been distinguished: the internal author (Malanyuk’s voice presented in his personal papers and writings not meant for publication), the external author (Malanyuk’s perception by his contemporaries), and the reflected author (Malanyuk’s voice revealed in his publications). Malanyuk’s Diaries present the image of the internal author, which differs from the image readers are accustomed to encounter in his published works. In Diaries paradoxes are revealed in Malanyuk’s attitude towards his contemporaries, friends, political and historical events.

The aim of this article is to analyze the practice of using of stylistic labels in modern Russian author (writer) dictionaries. It is shown that labels of this type as the main kind of markers of stylistic information characterize, first of all, the explanatory author dictionaries, which have a full corpus. In these dictionaries the set of the stylistic labels represents the selection from the available nomenclature of labels, which is supplemented by new labels. From the functional point of view, such labels are dual – on the one hand, they stylistically structure the author’s lexicon, on the other hand – they are the markers of certain features of his individual style. Among differential authorexplanatory dictionaries, such ones are separated, in which the stylistically painted specific massifs of lexicon are presented. The stylistic unity of such words defines redundancy of labels and therefore the application of special receptions in relation to them (for example, their transfer in a reference part of the dictionary entry) is used. Special attention is given to author registrative dictionaries (to concordances, frequency dictionaries), in which the structure complication is connected with using of stylistic labels. The research is based on the material of Russian author dictionaries published mainly at the beginning of the year 2000.

This article considers the key genre trends in Akhmatova’s poetry. The term «dominant installation of the author» (Kighney’s term) is used as the main genre-make criterion. The introspective, formally canonical, functional installations are defined and analysed. The conclusion of the article is that the author's installations, inspired by the needs of time and tradition, and may be embodied in an individual poetic work in the syncretic, differently interpreted genre structures.

This paper concerns the process of negotiating author and reader roles in the blogosphere. The starting point of this article is the theory of Roland Barthes that the death of the author is necessary for the birth of the reader. This idea notably responds to changing relations between the author and the reader in the new nedia era. The exemple of the blogosphere allows us to see that the roles of the author and the reader are not pre-defined and the filed of their "laws" is negotiated (two models of negotiations are described in this paper). In the blogosphere, wkich is an exemple of participatory culture, knocking the author off his pedestal does not result in the reader replacing the author, as R. Barthes would like. On the empty pedestal, after dumping the author, the reader does not appear - but communication does.

: The concept of silence is at the core of the Andreï Makine’s writing. Thus, the aim of this article is to underline its manifold manifestations in the FrancoRussian author’s literary creation. The first part of the article argues that biographical gaps are constitutive of his author image (Amossy, 2009), since he is the only member of the French Academy whose biography is still largely unknown, while the second and third parts focus on the narrative and stylistic usages of silence in his novels, as well as on Makine’s philosophy of creation, namely the “theory of the triple birth” (Osmonde, 2011), partially described in his texts.

The article analyzes the letters of L. Dobychin from 1924-1936. It reveals the main characteristics of the images of the author and the addressee, explicit and implicit forms of the author’s self-expression, the author’s epistolary intentions. The article shows that for Dobychin letters are not only external, but also internal representant of a personality, the most important way of formation of the image of “I” in its subjective and objective significance. The uniqueness of the author’s epistolary personality is determined by absolute sincerity and uncompromising judgment, etiquette pedantry, the combination of ironic and sentimental intonations, acute experience of his relations with the world and people, idealization of writerly status, orientation to the ideal norm both in aesthetic and in behavioral sense. The image of the addressee of the letters is partly mythologized and determined by the type of relationship between the correspondents and the role chosen by the addressee. The variations of the author’s “ego” and the change of the addressees’ role functions provide an expansion of the semantic and aesthetic potential of the image of the addressee and the correspondence as a whole.

Anonymous letters are a challenge for linguists and raise a whole range of questions that ultimately allow a creation of the linguistic portrait of the possible author. One of these questions concerns the emotional layer of the anonymous letter and the way anonymous authors express their emotions in language. This article is a contribution to the discussion and analysis of a specific type of speech genre, which is anonymous letter. The author is looking for traces of subjectivity in the scientific texts of an eminent Polish linguist. As the determinants of individual style, she recognizes certificates of reading (not only what the author reads but also how he reads), recognizing that the figures of the intertextual relationship (references, quotations, allusions, polemics) allows one to define the personality of the subject. She is interested in the plane of reflection, which manifests itself in the attitude of the scholar to the values of contemporary culture, to the change in the ideals of science, to the place and tasks of the choices of humanists and scholars (methodology, issues, forms of expression). She also finds features of individuality in the preferences of the author in the structure of his speech – composition, construction, syntax, lexis.

The topic of the article are experiences defined as epiphanies (N. Denzin) and as crystallizing experiences (H. Gardner), being the turning points in biographies of famous authors. The writer is undertaking an attempt of defining the nature of these experiences and their significance for the course of their artistic work and life of selected authors, describes the types of epiphanies and crystallizing experiences as well as he gives two spectacular examples. Epiphanies and crystallizing experiences may constitute an interesting and attractive subject of biographical research in pedagogy. The scope of problems of such a research is outlined by the writer in the second part of the text and it concerns various issues of the formation of a mature biography. The departure point for these problems is a self-attempt of classifying these turning points in authors’ biographies.

The main subject of the review is Mykola Ilnytskyi’s book Reading and Re-reading…, which is very important research on Ukrainian literature in contemporary humanities. The book includes four chapters in all of which fundamental interests of the researcher are described. Mykola Ilnytskyi reviews the classic texts of Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko ( chapter 1 ), and the literature of the first part of the 20th century ( chapter 2 ), as well as contemporary texts ( chapters 3, 4 ). This book is not an extensive view of the history of literature of the 20th century. Its main peculiarity is the delivery of important fragments and episodes of literary history. The essays combine a liberal understanding of the subject and an unobtrusive interpretation of the texts, which reflects the unique ethical culture of the researcher. Mykola Ilnytskyi is clearly aware of the multiplicity of meanings offered byfiction, and therefore does not insist on his own right to the truth, but only offers well-founded and personally verified versions of literary plots.

Opis:
The process of reading, rereading, scrutinizing, re-scrutinizing and appraising an author’s work is not fi nite; moreover it is very dynamic and full of suprises. No doubt that the appraisal and re-appraisal is too complex, including cultural, literary, gender and genre components. This becomes more obvious when referring to an author whose works had been locked up in library stacks during the whole 45 years of totalitarian rule in Albania, and whose appraisal process cannot help facing up to the critical thinking led by biased politicization. In this study the appraisal of the works of one of the most outstanding Albanian writers of the 30s of the twentieth century, Etëhem Haxhiademi, will be done by presenting them in rapport with the present-day school, pre-university and university level readers. This re-appraisal is conducted with a cold logic, devoid of the vindictive political principles which brought the distorted evaluation of the authors’ works, as it happened for many other au-thors as well, and is striving to place the writer into the system of the genuine literary values. Once the reader’s inquisitiveness has been satisfi ed, even after reading a less-known or, moreover, an oblivious or banned literary work, he/she begins reading and rereading it, looking closely into it, essaying to fi nd a proper place for this work in the general system of the national, inter-balkanic and international literary values.E. Haxhiademi’s literary work was known by an older generations of readers whose es-thetic satisfaction it brought forth was confi ned in their consciousness: it was unknown or partly known, not by direct reading but by several interpretations of others, by a middle generation of readers who displayed a certain artistic uncertainty and indifference. However, nowadays it is intently being studied although in excessively fragmentary ways and in many cases even unsuitable ones, by the younger generation of readers who should have a more motivated curiosity for divulging its real values.In the history of the Albanian literature, as well as in the other East European Countries, the authors’ biographies and especially their political aspects, were used as selective criteria to appraise authors and their works, instead of being pure cognitive and studying means. This study intends to reveal the present-day school readers’ affi rmative attitudes or even the non-affi rmative ones, regarding Haxhiademi’s literary works, in the process of re-dimen-sioning the author’s values and those of his literary works.

The article discusses linguistic methods for determining the images of authors of scientific texts. The theoretical basis of the study is a typology of points of view reflected in the text. The research method consists in detecting implicatures in the content of the text and determining their relationship to the author’s intentions. The image of the author is derived on the basis of the assessments, language means and the stated facts contained in the text. On the basis of implicatures, the content of which does not contradict the author’s intentions, his intentional image is derived. In the presence of implicatures, which most likely do not correspond to the author’s intentions, the perceptual image of the author is determined.

The article discusses selected texts of different genres by Milo Urban (1904–1982). The first text level is represented by fragments from his memoirs written in the 1970s and only published in the 1990s. An analysis of Urban’s journalistic activities during the Second World War provides us with another point of view. The article wishes to show different language versions elaborated by one author when dealing with one particular historical moment (the solution of the Jewish question and the Holocaust). This points at a significant change in Urban’s attitude to historical tragedies of the 20th century, and raises the question about a personal tragedy of an individual as well as his ability to cope with guilt and responsibility.

Representatives of the Polish punk-rock scene were careful observers of political, social and economic unrest in the world since the late 1970s and in the 1980s. A large part of the texts, written at that time, aptly commented on the tragic events in the world. Unfortunately, some of them haven’t lost their validity, like the song by KSU entitled ‘Liban’ [‘Lebanon’], or by the band ‘Brak’ [‘The Lack’] entitled ‘Na Bliskim Wschodzie wszystko w porządku’ [‘In the Middle East Everything’s All Right’]. After 1989, more songs, referring to various old or new threats in the world, were written. Songs, produced within the punk scene, describe the problems of political, economic and social nature, which remain unresolved. Authors, such as Maciej Augustyn, Krzysztof Grabowski, Kazik Staszewski not only point to the genesis of security problems in the world, but sometimes predict the consequences of such events in a broader perspective. Surprisingly, anticipations of some authors who are not political scientists or sociologists, come true more frequently than scientific analyses made by security experts. Suffice it to say that almost at the same time when Fukuyma guaranteed that happiness of humanity would be manifested in liberal democracy, Staszewski and Grabowski warned people of imminent wars, crises, a new division of the world and exploitation.

The present paper constitutes a qualitative discursive investigation of the nineteenth century case reports from ophthalmology derived from a specialist American medical journal, and focuses on citation as well as on authorial and patient’s presence. Regarding the first aspect, the present study generally confirms the results of the previous research, i.e. significant subjectivity, directness and informal character of the texts at hand. However, it also provides another insight into the scholarly communication in the nineteenth century, focusing on how patients are positioned therein, which has not received significant attention in the literature of the subject. Additionally, the paper offers an overview of the studies on specific aspects of scientific prose of the nineteenth century, including the medical context, as well as attempts to show the relation between the texts analysed and the context of their production and functioning, following the tradition of Genre Rhetorical Studies.

Since ancient times, curiosity (curiositas) was perceived as a misdeed, negative passion resulting from an irrepressible drive in the pursuit of knowledge and associated with conceit. However, its positive aspect did not go unnoticed. This was associated with moderate inquisitiveness, which did not exceed the limits of cognition, and was determined by the existing worldview (curiositas versus studiositas). There existed a conviction that women, being closer to nature and unable to control their emotions, were more likely to succumb to undesirable curiosity; the mythical Pandora and biblical Eve being cited as examples to further underscore the point. Hence, they were taught the ability to refrain from wanting to satisfy their curiosity. In spite of this, 17th century Europe witnessed the emergence of women, many of whom were authors of scholarly essays and dissertations, works of encyclopedic nature, of textbooks and manuals on natural philosophy, “books of secrets”, of women’s writing, and of poems describing the universe. In the Republic of Poland, though, this type of creative activity was, for quite some time, met with utter incomprehension or no acceptance, if not outright criticism.

Guzek Mariusz, Niechciana obecność autora – filmowy przypadek Václava Havla [The Unwanted Presence of the Author – Václav Havel in Film]. „Przestrzenie Teorii” 32. Poznań 2019, Adam Mickiewicz University Press, pp. 115–128. ISSN 1644-6763. DOI 10.14746/pt.2019.32.5. Václav Havel had his views on film, participated in the life of the new wave artist community, had walk-on parts, wrote screenplays, and at the end of his life, made one picture based on his own stage drama Leaving. For Havel, film was a part of a larger cultural challenge, appointed by the Central European character of the second half of the 20th century. In his plays and essays, he discussed the topics of enslavement, lies and resistance to these, constructing a kind of antinomical model of self-power. Repeatedly, the starting point of his work was the Czech reflections included in the theoretical texts of Jan Ivo Osolsobě or the aesthetic manifestos of Karel Teige. As a film director, he created a show of allusions, absurdity and exaggerations, by entering the entire catalogue of experiences, thoughts and techniques of being a “citizen of culture” into diagetic meaning.

The aim of this article is to develop a postmetaphysical conception of reading by following Kierkegaard’s Either/Or Part I (1843) through such Derridian concepts as secret, hospitality, and spectrality. The work focuses on the three essays addressed to the Symparanekromenoi (“the community of the dead”), a fellowship neither young nor old with an aphoristic way of life (2010b: 137-225) that can be understood as a figure of alterity. Special attention is paid to paratextual features of the book: the texts are actually presented as old papers found in a secretary desk by a pseudonymous editor (“Victor Eremita”), which suggests that every text is a posthumous paper, that is to say, it will always be read after the death of its author. Instead of finding a solid author who holds the semantic weight of the text, these papers are based in a blank of sense, a specter, a secret: if they are sustained on its author, then they are sustained in a mystery, not in a sort of revelation of meaning.

The Act of February 4, 1994 on Copyright and Related Rights, which regulates issues related to the protection of copyrights, belongs to the private law system (its provi- sions protect the private interest). However, the Act includes both administrative and criminal law provisions aimed at protecting the public interest. The literature rightly points out that the systemic division into public and private law is becoming increasingly less pronounced, due to the permeation of legal domains belonging to both systems. An example of such interpenetration are the provisions of copyright law. This statement is significant for the considerations made in this article due to the statutory method of penalising certain behaviour contained in the provisions of the Copyright and Related Rights Act. Criminal law provisions, systemically related to public law and protecting the public interest, contain references to the provisions of the Copyright and Related Rights Act regulating the scope of copyright protection, i.e. private law norms. In the context of the requirements that should be met by criminal law, such a reference raises doubts, which are particularly highlighted in Art. 115 para. 3 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act. This issue is impor- tant because the Constitutional Tribunal in its judgment of 17 February 2015, Ref. K 15/13 recognised this provision as constitutional. Therefore, he concluded that the principle of the specificity of a criminal act does not preclude the legislator from using terms that are imprecise or vague if their designations can be determined. At the same time, the Constitutional Tribunal has not presented any arguments indicating that in this case the determination of the designates of Art. 115 para. 3 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act does not cause any difficulties. The author of this article attempts to determine the extent of criminal liability in the event of a violation of author’s moral rights (Article 115 section 3 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act), at the same time indicating the difficulties that are associated with the unambiguous determination of behaviour which Art. 115 para. 3 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act penalises.

In his article, Vasyl Pakharenko explores the logic of deepening literary interpretations of Taras Shevchenko’s image in the prose of the artist and discovers the differences of this image in poetry and prose. If the lyrical hero of the poetic texts demonstrates a determined, uncompromising nationalism, then the narrator in the diary and short stories is rather a territorial patriot. And yet, he thinks of himself as located in the socio-cultural space of the Russian Empire, expresses critical views on the Koliivshchina, resorts to the Russian language, emphasises Enlightenment values, and demonstrates the masculine type of writing. All this testifies to the deviation from the romantic to the previous, classicist, tradition. That type of prose refinement is caused by the forced compromise of the artist with the empire in the conditions of brutal terror during the exile. There are several interpretations of such a position of an author in literary studies: Shevchenko’s diplomatic attempt to re-educate liberal Russian and Ukrainian intelligentsia (P. Zaitsev), psychological dualism of the “adapted” and “unadapted” personalities of the writer (G. Grabovich), distinctive forms of expression of the holistic image of the author (V. Smilyancka). Each of these positions has its own logic, but is characterised by a certain one-sidedness. The nature of Shevchenko’s compromise becomes clear if we take into account the peculiarities of carnival tactics of the spiritual survival of the artist in the conditions of the world. This is a creation of a kind of author’s mask, a game with stereotypes of the dominant culture and public consciousness.

The article is dedicated to general issues concerning verbal text and communication and the analysis of the communicative structure of a literary text. In the introduction, the interest to research not only text but also the phenomenon of a more complex character – communication – is expressed. The problem of the text as a part of communication process is also discussed taking into account the verbal means. In the first part, the attention is focused on the verbal text in the aspect of communication. The characteristics of implicit parts of the communication process (an author, code, text, channel, recipient, communicative situation) is presented as well. In the third part, there is the analysis of the specific type of a complex semiotic text – a literary verbal text and its communicative comprehension in both productive and receptive aspects. The connection of the text with textual subjects is studied as well. In the last part of the text, the conclusions of presented problems are drawn.

This article analyzes intertextual references and the transformation of pan-European mythological motifs and images in J. Brězan’s dilogy novel about Krabat. It is concluded that the era of globalization as well as the German reunification make German writers search for new artistic ways of embodying traditional ontological conflicts in literary texts. This actualizes the usage of postmodern poetics’ principles, and also leads to a synthesis of juxtaposed biblical, historical, fable and mythological motifs and images within one piece of literature, a mode of writing untypical in the past.

The author of the article discusses Adam Mickiewicz’s 21st sonnet of the Crimean cycle in the context of difficulties in literary translation. He has conducted a comparative analysis of translations of this sonnet into Belarusian, Russian and French. Attention is drawn to the differences in the interpretation of the beginning of this sonnet in the texts of every presented translators. Several versions of the perception of Mickiewicz’s metaphor “May dresses with spikelets embroidery” have been presented. Additionally, a new version of the translation of the sonnet into the Belarusian language has been offered.

Mawlid is a poetic literary work about the birth and life of the Muhammad, the Messenger of God. The paper tackles the problem of trivialization in a screen adaptation, taking as an example Nikolai Leskov’s sketch ‘The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk’ and Roman Balayan’s 1989 film based on it. The author focuses on biblical contexts and contrasts the tone of the ending in the text with that on screen: while the literary Katerina remains unable to repent and ready to murder, the scenery toward the end of the film is surprisingly serene. In particular, the director’s treatment of the motif of ringing bells (symbolizing man’s separation from God) reveals an ideological difference between Balayan and Leskov. The author finds Balayan’s version more of a love drama than a tragedy of the death of a human soul. The film, she claims, even if not essentially distorting the meaning of the sketch, downplays and impoverishes Leskov’s semantic palette and simplifies the complex character created by the writer.

Opis:
The article deals with two Ukrainian author’s schools viewed at a comparative angle. The famous educationalists Vasyl Sukhomlynsky and Oleksandr Zakharenko were the authors of those systems realized in the villages of Pavlysh (Sukhomlynsky) and Sakhnivka (Zakharenko). The author compares the educationalists’ biographies and their background and makes a conclusion on the basis of their belonging to the families of intelligence with strong traditions. The author compares their ideas of the role of work in education, the school authonomy, the role of the community in school life, the partnership of the school and the family, and special elements of the school environment. Some peculiar features of the rural schools have also been taken into account. The author’s thoughts as to the way the authors’ ideas may be introduced and developed in modern Ukrainian schools have been expressed in the conclusions.

The article is devoted to the problem of authorial intention in contemporary Russian drama. Firstly, major theoretical approaches to the ‘problem of the author’ in drama are identified. It is then demonstrated how cultural paradigms change in an artistic consciousness and how, as a consequence, the most important structural components of drama – conflict, character, genre – become discredited and deconstructed. There follows an overview of specific examples of such transformations of these generic features of drama. It is argued in the paper that such transformations result from the activation of the author’s consciousness and are a manifestation of the author’s intentions regarding the modern picture of the world.

Opis:
A review of modern historiography shows the traditional methods of the description of history and of appeals to certain private, subjective and emotional facts. In the context of this problem, the author researches novels of contemporary Ukrainian literature which have a historical background. These are The Pharmacist (2015) by Yuriy Vynnychuk, Felix Austria (2014) by Sophia Andruchovych and Kornelia (2015) by Nadia Morykvas. These writers don’t suggest an absolutely new concept of the past, but their interpretations of history show signs of a new method which hasn’t been invented just for today. Writers show history as the private experience of separate heroes, as in such an interpretation it takes the new plot. Such a literary position demonstrates a dissatisfaction with memorial culture, which is typical nowadays.

The article considers comic humour as an emotional and semantic component of the statements in two comedies written by Nadezhda Ptushkina: Paying ahead and Come and take away, which can be attributed to popular mass literature. Distinguishing between the manifestations of situational and semantic comedy and humour the article shows how the humorous tone of the character’s remarks changes the overall genre tone of the comedy. Due to the idea of how much the personality does not fit into the narrow framework of the stereotypical perception of the situation of the husband’s withdrawal from the family, the article notes the dramatic and tragic modality of the statements in the plays. At the same time, in all situations and in all manifestations of the relationship between the characters, we feel the author’s view. The author is distinguished by the ability to understand and accept a different opinion to optimistically see the possibility of preserving the family and identity of each person in the process of collisions with other opinions. Despite the author’s rejection the play retains a belief in a certain general harmony of the human soul, which is especially vividly perceived thanks to allusions to Chekhov’s plays. Techniques contribute to the removal of the author’s view and the positions of the characters: dialogue of the deaf, distancing the author’s view and the character’s position, wordplay. All these techniques contribute to overcoming the farcical nature of the conflict and its dramatization.

The present article attempts to interpret the poem Wyrok [The Verdict] written by Rafał Wojaczek. The author tries to reveal the rules of the game in the play with psychoanalysis that are set in motion in the poem by the introduction of the Freudian signature to the text. Citing the Oedipus complex as one of the “representative” mechanisms for the development of the phenomenon of unawareness, he proceeds to prove that the theory of psychoanalysis as the interpretative context can function on the principle of the paradox, i.e. the stronger the denial of it within the subject, the more important it becomes for the understanding of the work. In this way, Wojaczek, by making the poem heretically sealed, opens it up to interpretation and, eventually, implies that its sense goes beyond any explanation (negation of psychoanalysis as an interpretative method). This last statement makes the basis for a formulation of further assumptions on the psychical structure of the subject (conscious unawareness and unconscious awareness), as well as the relations between the author, the subject and the lyrical protagonist where the author, after exceeding the limits of the poem, splits himself into two instances: textual representation (that of the father) and the lyrical “I” that is the irrevocable verdict condemning the poet to making them fit into language and grammar. An attempt, then, at salvation and a coupling of the body (blood) with the lingering word turns out, however, to be deadly, a carrying out of the verdict.

Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit dem Problem der Verhältnisse zwischen dem Schreibenden und der Schrift, dem Sprechenden und der Sprache, wobei unter der Letzteren ein unbegrenztes (Selbst) Ausdrucks - und Benennungspotenzial verstanden wird. Die wichtigsten Themen, die in diesem Kontext diskutiert werden – Literatur und andere Kunstformen, die Dialektik der Autor - und Erzählerkonzepte, die Idee des Unaussprechlichen usw. – kreisen um die Kernfrage: Ist es etwa der Autor, der die Sprache benutzt, um bestimmte Gedanken und Gefühle auszudrücken, oder wird er vielleicht selbst benutzt, ja überhaupt kreiert von einem ihm übergeordneten Phänomen, das man ‚Sprache‘ nennt?
The article focuses on the problem of relations between a writer and a language: between the one who speaks and speech itself, understood as a vast medium for virtually infinite (self -) expression. The most important topics to be discussed in this context include those of literature and other art forms, that of the dialectics of the concepts of ‘the author’ and ‘the narrator’ and that of the notion of the ‘Ineffable’. These are considered in the light of one fundamental question namely whether the author uses language to express his or her own thoughts and feelings or, perhaps, is the author merely an agent or product of some greater and more widely unappreciated phenomenon called ‘Language’

Unlike the author’s economic rights, the authorship of a work as well as other moral rights should not necessarily be classified as a kind of intellectual property. If literature presents the problems of copyright as an element of intellectual property, this is done in reference to economic rights. The issues connected with moral rights appear then as the background condition for economic rights to arise. However, according to the will of the legislator, the nature of these rights was formed in a different way. While economic rights are a kind of intellectual property, the authorship of a work should rather be viewed as a phenomenon at the intersection of the right to privacy (particularly at the stage of an already established but not yet completed work) and the right to freedom of expression (from the moment of the exercise of other moral rights and the moment of taking a decision to make a work public under the author’s own name). The right to withhold authorship cannot be interpreted as the right to change the author by agreement of the interested parties.

Recenzja dwóch tomów z serii Barbary Hollender o polskich reżyserach (tom trzeci w przygotowaniu). W pracach Od Wajdy do Komasy (2014) oraz Od Kutza do Czekaja (2016) autorka przybliża pięćdziesiąt portretów reżyserskich reprezentujących różne pokolenia – od nestorów i klasyków polskiego kina po najmłodszych filmowców. Struktura esejów jest podobna. Hollender opisuje drogę twórczą każdego bohatera, zestawiając cytaty z licznych rozmów z analizami wybranych tytułów, kontekstami socjologicznymi i obyczajowymi. To zarazem kronika polskiego kina i jego koryfeuszy – z Hasem, Wajdą, Kutzem, Zanussim, Kawalerowiczem na czele. Pasjonujące są jednak również opowieści najmłodszych bohaterów: Szumowskiej, Czekaja czy Komasy. Dorastali oni w innym okresie, mają odmienne plany na przyszłość i marzenia, jednak podobnie jak ich mistrzowie chcą tworzyć, pracować, wierzą w spełnienie. Bohaterów książek Hollender dzieli zatem niemal wszystko – temperament artystyczny, ambicje, poglądy na rzeczywistość, wreszcie dorobek. Łączy zaś jedno – pasja tworzenia. Wszyscy mieszkamy w kinie – podkreśla Filip Bajon.
A book review of two volumes from Barbara Hollender’s series on Polish film directors (the third volume is being prepared). In the volumes Od Wajdy do Komasy [From Wajda to Komasa] (2014) and Od Kutza do Czekaja [From Kutz to Czekaj] (2016) the author presents fifty portraits of directors representing various generations – from the masters and classics of the Polish cinema to the youngest of filmmakers. She maintains a similar structure in all the essays. Hollender describes the creative path of each director, she presents quotes from numerous interviews together with analysis of chosen titles, sociological and cultural contexts. It is also a chronicle of Polish cinema and its coryphes – with Has, Wajda, Kutz, Zanussi and Kawalerowicz at the helm. However the stories of the younger directors are also fascinating: Szumowska, Czekaj or Komasa. They grew up in a different era, and have different dreams and plans for the future, but just like their masters they want to create and work, and they believe in professional fulfilment. So the people portrayed by Hollender are different in almost every respect – artistic temperament, ambition, views on reality, and finally achievements. But they do share one thing – a creative passion. As Filip Bajon emphasises: We all live in the cinema.

Следуя европейской традиции XVII−XVIII веков, Н. И. Новиков сопровождал дедика- циями почти все свои многочисленные издания. Его дедикации разнообразны и по выбору адресатов, и по своему характеру. Он обращался не только к царственным особам и высоко- поставленным покровителям, но и к людям, близким ему по своим убеждениям, к кураторам Московского университета, студентам, женщинам. Эти посвящения открывали новые воз- можности самого жанра в русской издательской практике.
Many of the numerous books and journals edited by Nikolai Novikov bear dedications. These paratexts can be very different, depending on the addressee and the author’s relation to the particular person: Catherine II, powerful patrons, curators of the Moscow University or its students, friends and like-minded acquaintances, women, etc. Certain journals are even dedicated to the Fatherland. Novikov’s dedications also differ in form: some of them are very short, others have the form of a letter. Novikov followed tradition but also often went beyond the Russian publishing practices of his epoch.

Названия произведений выполняют прежде всего идентифицирующую функцию – они выделяют данный текст среди других. Однако, помимо прочего, в зависимости от жанра, название произведения может выполнять также другие функции. Итак, в литературной традиции авторской песни заголовок песни тесно связан с текстом, являясь своего рода «введением» в текст. Он обращает он внимание на его смысл, подчеркивает то, что было важным для автора оригинального произведения. В нашей статье рассматриваются переводческие стратегии польских переводов заголовков песен Владимира Высоцкого и Булата Окуджавы. Нами обсуждаются переводческие решения и приемы, обнаруженные в процессе их перевода (опущения, замена, дополнение, буквальный перевод). Нами также была предпринята попытка дать ответ на вопрос, в какой степени эти трансформации влияют на восприятие текста. 
The titles of works mainly have an identifying function – they highlight text among other texts. However, in addition, depending on the genre, the title of a work may also perform other functions. So, in the literary tradition of the author’s song, the title of the song is closely related to the text, being a kind of “introduction” to the text, it draws attention to its meaning, emphasizes what the author conveys in the text. Our article deals with the translation strategies of the song title by the Polish translators of the works of Vladimir Vysotsky and Bulat Okudzhava. We analyze the trends we observe in their translation (omissions, substitutions, additions, literal translation) and try to give an answer as to how they affect the perception of the text.

This article outlines selected shifts in thinking about authorship and authority that have occurred in literary and cultural studies in the aftermath of Roland Barthes’s proclamation of the death of the author, followed by the author’s many revivals. Reconsidering Barthes’s seminal essay and confronting it with Michel Foucault’s query about the author-function, the article comments on Seán Burke’s polemical stance concerning situated authorship. Against these general considerations, several areas in which authorship and authority have been reconceptualized are briefly discussed, referring to the themes addressed in this volume. These areas embrace the problems of representing and using somebody else’s story in visual arts and testimonial theatre, the challenges of individual and cultural situatedness of writing within one’s own output and in reference to more general cultural hauntings as well as the processes of self-formation in the interactions between a variety of texts forming life-writing.
