Despite an emerging interest in work attitudes (job, career and calling), researchers know little about whether these attitudes matter in the workplace. We explore the under-examined relationship between work attitudes and work outcomes (work satisfaction and internal work motivation) among the teachers of Northwest A&F University China. Although some theory suggests that calling may be strongly correlated with work satisfaction, this study predicted that a career attitude is more positively associated with work satisfaction. The correlation analysis revealed a significant and positive relationship between career, calling and work outcomes as well as a significant and negative relationship between job and work outcomes. The multiple regression analysis indicated a significant impact of career and calling on work satisfaction but only calling has a significant impact on internal work motivation. Further, based on this study, we suggest that work attitudes as a predictor of work satisfaction can give very useful insights into redesigning jobs for the higher education sector in order to increase the level of job satisfaction and motivation of teachers.

The aim of the hereby article is to point at the inconsistency in building employee’s engagement in the context of work effectiveness. An analysis of engagement and work effectiveness notion and published research results pertaining to both questions were conducted. The article was based on a secondary datum and a desk research method was used. The object of analysis was defining why an increasing pressure on engagement does not lead to an increase of work effectiveness. The conclusions show firstly that an increase of engagement involves a biological and psychical cost increase – an employee works longer and with a bigger passion that can result in both an equal burnout and a lower performance. Secondly, engagement is hardly measurable and it is problematic to be controlled in order to achieve the very measurable work results.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between work engagement and the psychological traits of employees, such as attitudes towards work and work ethic. Additionally, the study included demographic characteristics of employees and organizational characteristics. Research was conducted using the Polish adaptations of two well known methods: Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile and Utrecht Work Enagagement Scale, as well as the Work Attitude Questionnaire (WAQ) - a new Polish method. 360 adult employees of two large Polish regions took part in the study. The analysis showed a significant influence of hedonic-autotelic attitude, as well as four dimensions of work ethic on work engagement. It seems to be an important conclusion that work engagement turned out to be far more determined by the subject’s psychological traits than demographic and organizational ones. These results, indicating the special role of the perception of work as a central value, can be used only in the area of attitudes towards work formed during adolescence (e.g., at school, in career counseling) but also in the area of motivating the employees by the organization.

Work-exacerbated asthma (WEA) is the term used to describe the worsening of asthma related to work but not the causation of asthma by work. It is common and has been reported to occur for 21.5% of working asthmatics on average. The frequency and severity may range from a single mild exacerbation that may lead to no time lost at work up to daily or severe exacerbations that may require a permanent change in work. Reports from general population surveys and primary care settings include more patients with short-term or mild exacerbations while those from tertiary care settings reflect the more severe end of the spectrum of severity or frequency, with socioeconomic outcomes that are similar to those of occupational asthma. In the minority of patients with the WEA, whose asthma starts while working, the differential diagnosis includes sensitizer-induced or possible irritant-induced occupational asthma. Optimizing work exposures and asthma management may improve outcome and prevent exacerbations. Worker education and screening of working asthmatics by primary health care workers may also prevent morbidity.

ObjectivesIn the present study, the authors focused on the comparison of work characteristics related to the possibility of striking the right work–nonwork balance, as well as satisfaction with the actual work–life balance (WLB), negative work-to-home conflict and the quality of life related to social relationships, between a new group of on-line workers (social media or e-marketing specialists, search engine optimization or search engine marketing specialists, e-public relations experts etc.) and traditional office workers.Material and MethodsThe authors conducted a questionnaire study covering 189 on-line workers (whose work required permanent presence on-line) and 200 office workers (using the Internet mainly to communicate with other departments and to search for information).ResultsThe results showed that the on-line workers reported a significantly lower satisfaction with WLB and a higher negative work-home interaction. The authors found no differences as regards the social quality of life between the studied groups.ConclusionsThese findings confirm that technology advancement opens a new chapter in organizational psychology and occupational health, especially in the context of the emerging on-line occupations.

Different work organisations function all over the world. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the perception of many employees concerning the concept of remote and hybrid work. Nowadays it seems to be the new normal, not only in the IT field. This paper aims to show the distinction between various work organisations and compare them in the context of work efficiency, focusing on in-company and remote work. The article also presents the problems of hybrid work. A study was conducted in the form of a survey. The study shows how remote work is perceived by the respondents, concerning its advantages, disadvantages, and working conditions.

An evaluation proposal (quantitative determination) of any combustion turbine engine operation has been presented , wherein the impact energy occurs at a given time due to Energy conversion. The fact has been taken into account that in this type of internal combustion engines the energy conversion occurs first in the combustion chambers and in the spaces between the blade of the turbine engine. It was assumed that in the combustion chambers occurs a conversion of chemical energy contained in the fuel-air mixture to the internal energy of the produced exhaust gases. This form of energy conversion has been called heat. It was also assumed that in the spaces between the blades of the rotor turbine, a replacement occurs of part of the internal energy of the exhaust gas, which is their thermal energy into kinetic energy conversion of its rotation. This form of energy conversion has been called the work. Operation of the combustion engine has been thus interpreted as a transmission of power receivers in a predetermined time when there the processing and transfer in the form (means) of work and heat occurs. Valuing the operation of this type of internal combustion engines, proposed by the authors of this article, is to determine their operation using physical size, which has a numerical value and a unit of measurement called joule-second [joule x second]. Operation of the combustion turbine engine resulting in the performance of the turbine rotor work has been presented, taking into account the fact that the impeller shaft is connected to the receiver, which may be a generator (in the case of one-shaft engine) or a propeller of the ship (in the case of two or three shaft engine).

The paper presents ethical problems faced by the employees of selected banks in Poland. The theoretical section of the paper describes the codes of ethics in banking, especially those concerning the moral aspects of working in banking. The empirical part of the paper presents the results of research on the ethos of bank workers. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were carried out using a special Internet forum devoted to the banking sector. The study includes a content analysis of comments posted by the bank employees on the Internet forum.

Theoretical background: The article presents the results of research on the relationship between the workplace and work-life balance experienced by employees. In the article, the workplace is understood as a physical space where employees are located. The first part of the article presents the results of the analysis of the literature on the subject related to the key issues. The subsequent part focuses on presenting the opinions collected by the authors during the empirical research conducted with the use of a questionnaire among professionally active people. The subject matter of the research was the workplace of the respondents in the context of work-life balance. The experiences of the respondents before and during the COVID-19 pandemic were analysed statistically.Purpose of the article: The aim of the article was to identify the relationship between work and private life experienced by employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.Research methods: The theoretical part of the article was created as a result of the analysis of the literature on the subject which was conducted in the period between December 2020 and April 2021. The empirical part of the article presents the results of a survey conducted with the use of a questionnaire, in which the people from a number of enterprises took part as respondents.Main findings: It was found that there is a relationship between the workplace and work-life balance experienced by employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. It should be emphasized that under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to achieve work-life balance has become much more difficult.

The goal of this paper is to identify the degree of implementation of remote work in 25 EU countries in 2020 and to indicate potential factors that may determine the share of work from home (WFH) in total employment. The author argues that along with higher labour productivity, the share of WFH in total employment increases. Moreover, the correlation analysis also showed an important role of technological infrastructure, higher education or the share of people aged 15–24 in the structure of society.

The main aim of the article is to establish if and how we can research the impact of automation of work on the labour market. In this paper, I discuss measurement issues of automation of work with theoretical and statistical parts including elements of methodology. The text begins by discussing the dependences between physical and cognitive work and pays attention to the theoretical and historical sources of this division. Then, I point out hybrid forms of cognitive work as a result of the progressing digitalization, which leads me to the indication of big data and algorithms as one of the most important elements of modern work automation. The foregoing prompts the following question: If we take into account the prospective hybridization of machines and humans, should we still measure the cognitive work, especially in its quality dimensions? Finally, I provide examples of some possible methods of measurement of the automation of cognitive work, especially by pointing out selected changes which automation introduces into the labour market.

The aim of this article is to present problems influenced by work organization in the “24-hour society”: flexible work time, night and shift work. Improvement in the flow of information and globalization increasingly often force work activity irrespective of the time of day or night. Bad organization of flexible work time may result in health and social dysfunctions.

The aim of the article is to broaden the knowledge about the mutual relationship between work engagement and professional burnout. In the psychological literature, a lively discussion between the position that these are opposite poles of one dimension and the position that both dimensions are independent has not yet been clearly concluded. The article focuses on the analysis of the causes of both phenomena. It was assumed that one-dimensionality means that the same elements of the work situation affect each of the states but in an opposite way. The research was conducted using standardized questionnaires (AWLS, LBQ, and UWES) on a group of 128 teachers from different types of schools. Statistical analyses relying on regression analysis indicated different sources of each phenomenon, which supports the position of independence of both constructs.

Social and voluntary work are connected historically. The relationship between social and voluntary work has undergone specific development. Nowadays, the role of work from the point of view of an individual and the society is assessed very highly, which is indicated by many empirical analyzes. It makes people happy about their lives, helps them meet their development needs, and have a sense of duty to one’s family, group and society. Therefore, work appears to be a way to meet various needs (material, social, moral, prestigious, stabilizing or creative), sometimes strong enough to be the reason for migration from one’s home country. The subject of the presented empirical research are aspects of work valued by those employed in Poland and abroad. In order to determine which aspects of work the surveyed people value the most, the diagnostic survey method was used, which was carried out using the survey technique. The study covered 399 people, including 200 Poles working in the UK and 199 people employed in the country. The conducted analyzes are comparative studies.
Współcześnie rolę pracy z punktu widzenia jednostki i społeczeństwa, ocenia się bardzo wysoko, na co wskazuje wiele analiz empirycznych. Dzięki niej człowiek jest zadowolony z życia, zaspokaja swoje potrzeby rozwojowe, ma także poczucie spełnionego obowiązku wobec rodziny, grupy i społeczeństwa. Praca jawi się więc, jako sposób umożliwiający realizację różnych potrzeb (materialnych, społecznych, moralnych, prestiżowych, stabilizacyjnych czy twórczych), czasem na tyle silnych, że będących powodem migracji z ojczystego kraju. Przedmiotem prezentowanych badań empirycznych są cenione aspekty pracy przez osoby zatrudnione w Polsce i za granicą. W celu określenia określenia jakie aspekty pracy cenią najbardziej badane osoby zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, który został zrealizowany techniką ankietową. Badaniami objęto 399 osób, w tym 200 Polaków pracujących w Wielkiej Brytanii i 199 osób zatrudnionych w kraju. Prowadzone analizy mają charakter badań porównawczych.

Authors in this contribution deal with science education in the hobbitry with the application of interdisciplinary links and its relationship to physics. The papers presents an example of linking interesting and experimental works with elements of real scientific research in the natural sciences. These authors also suggest more possible ways of analysis, which subject is monitoring of external and structural changes of samples, which are collected with using a suitable measurement techniques. From this perspective, the application of hobbitry also leads to increased motivation, educational level of students and it also had a function as a developer of their interests about areas, which are close to them.

The aim of this article is to describe the notion of telework and show the most popular aspects of telecommuting. Detailed review of the literature points out that there is no one, widely accepted definition of telework. Thus, for the purpose of this article, telecommuting is defined as “Every sort of money-gained activity, caused by external motivation of the individual and/or induced by the organization, no matter what is the extent of time spent on teleworking. What is very important is the fact that teleworking is connected with fulfilling the obligations in a flexible way, outside the conventional workplace, with the use of available telecommunications or computer-based technology to transport it’s effects”. Further investigation of the literature shows that 3 aspects are being the most popular among telework researchers: 1) demographic and psychological characteristic of telecommuting individuals, 2) causes of teleworking, 3) outcomes of teleworking, such as: increased productivity, organizational loyalty, satisfaction and high morale, decreased level of stress and positive work-life balance. Majority of the surveys have got plenty of methodological limitations, thus the results are not to be generalized on wider population. Moreover, obtained data varies in different studies, so that telework with all it’s aspects needs further investigation. At the end of the article there are proposed new directions for the future research.

The boundary between work and family life is now almost invisible, making the search for a balance between both spheres a dilemma and challenge. These concerns have led to a growing increase in studies on work-family and family-work conflict, their predictors, and their effects. This study aims to: 1) observe the predictive effect of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) on work-family guilt (WFG) and family-work guilt (FWG), respectively; and 2) to observe the effect of WFC, FWC, WFG and FWG on satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. In a sample of 213 participants aged between 22 and 64 years (M = 41.77; SD = 6.63), the results show that, in contrast with expectations, WFG and FWG did not prove to be predictors; only WFC and FWC had a negative effect on both guilt and satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. The family work interface is a topic that is extremely important, not only for organizations but also for society. Therefore, the study of its implications on variables is considered essential for the promotion of positive functioning of individuals.

W artykule przedstawiono problematykę dotyczącą społecznych aspektów przemian pracy i funkcjonowania współczesnych pracowników. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na zagadnienie czasu pracy w kontekście uwarunkowań i zagrożeń związanych z przenikaniem sfery zawodowej i osobistej. Poruszane kwestie analizowano, odwołując się do literatury przedmiotu, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przedstawionych z tego zakresu badań. Główną część artykułu poświęcono prezentacji wyników badań własnych, opracowanych na podstawie przeprowadzonych wywiadów indywidualnych z osobami pracującymi zawodowo. Zgromadzony materiał empiryczny odnosił się m.in. do takich kwestii jak: czas pracy, zagrożenia związane z nadmierną pracą, znaczenie sfery zawodowej i rodzinnej, trudności w równoważeniu życia zawodowego i osobistego.
The paper presents issues concerning the social aspects of work transformation and functioning of the modern employees. Particular attention was paid to the issue of work time in the context of conditions and risks connected with infiltration of the professional and personal sphere of employees. The issues analyzed by referring to the literature on the subject, with particular regard to the research in this field. The main part of the article was devoted to the presentation of results of own research based on interviews with people working professionally. The collected empirical material was referring, inter alia, issues such as: work time, risks connected with excessive work, the importance of work and family sphere, difficulties in balancing professional and personal life.

Since the earliest age, each man plays various interrelated and coexisting roles in their family, social and professional life. Individual roles are realised simultaneously or sequentially and remain in relationship. Each role may complement, expand or disturb the course of a career in life. Undoubtedly, family/personal life and work are the key areas of human life. One cannot treat both these areas as independent of each other. There exists a continuous spillover between them – a natural, dynamic process developing over the entire course of human life. The effective integration of the spheres of work and family functioning is conditioned by many factors. On the basis of the literature, we can divide the determinants of the integration of these two roles into two categories: environmental, resulting, for instance, from the specific nature of the workplace or organization, the roles fulfilled, and the profession; individual, which can be associated with the properties of the individual, such as gender, age, education, children, or the status of the relationship, or they may result from the structure of the personality and the mental properties of the individual, such as motivation, values, level of commitment, mental health, physical health, etc. One of the crucial elements in the process of balancing work and family roles is the personality. The research on this issue indicates that among the dimensions of personality that have particular importance are neuroticism and extraversion, which significantly affect the direction and quality of the spillover between these two spheres of functioning. The aim of presented study was verify personality predictors of work-life balance among women. The survey involved 160 women with the various education, working professionally and possessing the least one child.

Introduction. Ability to work is most often defined as a relationship between a person’s resources and requirements specific to a particular type of work. It is the result of interaction between job requirements in terms of physical and mental strain, capabilities and skills of the employee, as well as his/her health condition and own evaluation of functioning in a given organizational and social situation. Objective. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate the current value of the Work Ability Index (WAI) in a sample of employees in Poland. Materials and method. The study sample was selected purposefully from 422,000 employees covered by the largest occupational health provider in Poland. The standard WAI questionnaire provided by CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) methodology was voluntary and completed anonymously by 688 employees within 12 months (0.16% response rate). The results were statistically analyzed using the Pearson’s chi-squared test and correlation coefficient, independent- sample T test and one-way analysis of variance (p < 0.05). Results. It was found that the average value of WAI was 37.5 ± 7.7, and 37% of the participants represented low to moderate ability to work. The results showed no significant correlation between the WAI value and its 7 compounds and demographic variables. Nonetheless, a dependency between WAI level and industrial branch was observed. Conclusions. Subjects with moderate and low WAI (1/3 of the study population) had particular indications to implement prophylactic actions, especially for the health care employees and civil servants, whose ability to work may be subject to accelerated deterioration.

The article is the result of the desk research on time spent by Polish people at work and the different kinds of out-of-work activities undertaken by them. The author’s deliberations follow the philosophy of balancing employee needs and promoting work-life balance. The paper includes promotion of the idea of the harmonious growth in all areas of an individual’s functioning and activity, as well as the satisfaction of his/her physical and psychological needs. The purpose of the study was to analyse the interactions between work and out-of-work activity in the context of the mutual enrichment of work and personal life. As results from the conducted analyses, the practical implementation of the work-life enrichment idea into organizational behaviours could guarantee high quality of life with no harm to the society, environment or economy.

Wraz z procesami starzenia się już od ok. 45 roku życia następuje zmniejszenie sprawności psychofizycznej człowieka, pociągające za sobą ograniczenie możliwości wykonywania ciężkiej pracy fizycznej, czy prac wykonywanych w trudnych warunkach, np. pracy w nocy. Wykonywanie pracy w trudnych warunkach przez osoby starsze, przyspiesza procesy starzenia się oraz zwiększa ryzyko zawodowe wypadków przy pracy. Zmniejszenie zdolności do wykonywania pracy umysłowej zaznacza się w późniejszym wieku (od ok. 65 r.ż.) i nie tak jednoznacznie, jak w przypadku zdolności do ciężkiej pracy fizycznej i zmianowej.
The process of ageing involves a decline in human’s psychophysical fitness, reduced ability to perform hard physical work or work under especially difficultconditions,includingnightwork.Adverseconditionsinthework environment are responsible for premature ageing and they increase the risk of accidents at work. The declining ability to perform mental work is usually manifested later (at the age of about 65) and not as uniformly as in case of the ability to perform hard physical work and shift work.

The ethics of work is centered on man because of his and his fellow men’s good, and thus saves the worker from being disconnected from work. Work that is devoid of moral sense becomes pointless, as it loses its social meaning and becomes a source of socioeconomic problems.

Research background: Despite the economic development, accompanied by various structural reforms (including pension reform of 1999), the effective retirement age in Poland is relatively low. Participants of the social insurance scheme tend to apply for the old-age pension as soon as possible (when they reach the statutory retirement age). Purpose of the article: The main aim of the paper is to evaluate the determinants of the economic activity of seniors in Poland taking the old-age pension form Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) as a regular or occasional work, in comparison to those who are not performing any paid activity. Methods: We use the data from the survey carried out in 2018 on the representative sample of Polish seniors aged 65+ for whose households the old-age pension from ZUS (1336 pensioners who retired between 1980?s up to 2018) is the main source of income. Multinominal logistic regression was performed to study how gender, retirement timing, education level and period of retirement as well as reasons for retirement influenced the likelihood to continue regular or occasional work. Findings & Value added: Multinominal logistic regression for women confirms that higher education increases chances for continuing regular work on the retirement comparing to those having secondary education. Retirement due to the reaching the pensionable age made women more likely to continue work on regular basis, while those who retired due to the bankruptcy of the employer were less likely to be employed during retirement. Retirement due to the preservation of pension privileges increased chances to continue work on the occasional basis among women and men. For men who reported employment - related factors as retirement drivers, the chances of performing occasional work were high and of highly statistical significant. This research delivers knowledge on drivers of regular or occasional paid activity combined with receiving old-age pension from social insurance system in Poland.

Objective. The objective of the study was recognition of the opinions of rural women living in the Bieszczady region of south-eastern Poland, concerning their perception of the degree of severity of work. The study was conducted among the inhabitants of the Cisna commune. Materials and method. The basic research instrument was a questionnaire form containing 15 items. The study covered 101 women living in the Cisna commune in the Bieszczady. The self-reported degree of work load on a farm was analyzed among women who were occupationally active, and those who were not occupationally active. The effect of assistance from family members on the severity of work perceived by women was considered. Results. The women in the study focused on agro-tourism, a few of them were engaged in agricultural work and the majority worked in household gardens. The study showed that occupationally active women work considerably longer, on average, and are the most loaded, compared to those not engaged in occupational activity. The mean daily time devoted to duties on a farm did not significantly differ between occupationally active and non-active women, and amounted to 380 and 320 minutes, respectively. The majority of women who were non-active occupationally evaluated their household chores as the highest work load. In turn, the women who undertook occupational activity assessed them as most burdensome, despite great help from their family. The body positions assumed while performing field work were: standing, standing-bent-over, and walking. The mean evaluations of work load while standing and standing-bent-over did not significantly differ, but affected the work load among women who, however, could not assess the severity of their work resulting from the body position assumed.

This paper puts forward a two-sided approach to late capitalist time regimes in paid household work by comparing the experience of time of domestic workers and domestic employers. Their time-related strategies are confronted with the aim of revealing common underlying patterns as well as possible divergences. First, migrant domestic workers’ strategies to cope with the (time) particularities of domestic work (e.g. asynchronies, free time deficit, long working hours, boredom) are analysed. Second, the experience of time of professionally active domestic employers, who in turn are pressured in their professional lives and employ domestic workers to meet these demands, is examined. The authors argue that domestic employers’ and workers’ time regimes interact and reinforce one another, creating a double time-bind. The data are drawn from Cojocaru’s research project on migrant domestic workers in Italy and Rosińska’s research on employers as well as local and migrant workers in Poland.

The paper presents an analysis of the research into the influenceof culture differences on behaviour at work and the interactions between attitudes and behaviours at work on the example of Turkey and Poland. In order to examine this problem a model of work culture was developed. The study involved altogether 583 production workers. The results indicated a strong relationship between work culture and attitudes at work (e.g. the significance of work for the worker, engagement, self-discipline, effort invested in work) as well as behaviours at work (e.g. effectiveness, competence, absence, sick leaves). Związek między kulturą pracy a zachowaniami w pracy:badania międzykulturowe.Artykuł przedstawia analizę wyników badań dotyczących różnic kulturowych w zachowaniu w pracy oraz interakcji pomiędzy postawami i zachowaniami w pracy na przykładzie Turcji i Polski. W celu zbadania powyższej kwestii utworzony został model kultury pacy. W badaniach wzięło udział łącznie 583 pracowników produkcyjnych. Wyniki badań wskazały na silny związek między kulturą pracy a postawami w pracy (np. znaczenie pracy dla pracownika, zaangażowanie, zdyscyplinowanie, wysiłek włożony w pracę) oraz zachowaniami w pracy (np. efektywność, sprawność, absencja, zwolnienia z pracy).

Population aging is a universal phenomenon in the modern world. According to some demographers predicted percentage of the population of retirement age will increase in Europe over half a century, that is, by 2050 from 27% to 51% in North America from 19% to 35% across the globe from 11% to 25%. In the future this process will accelerate even more wyraźniejszemu to falling birth rates. Demographic forecasts indicate that the number of people in Poland in the retirement age will rise from 5.9 million in 2005 to at least 9 million in 2030, ie 15.4% of the total Polish population to 26.9%. The problems of increasing population and the very last phase of human life becomes the object of interest and concern of international organizations (UN passed the 1991 catalog for Human Rights of Elders), academia and public bodies in many countries. That problem was also taken Forecast Committee 'Poland 2000 Plus ". This very important problem was underestimated by all the authorities for many years. Another emerging governments did nothing to start some preparation for this process. The Ministries of Labour and Social Policy, Health, Education does not have quite the cells or even specialists in this field.

While attempting to answer a question in the title of this paper first of all, basic intentions that inspired to formulate such a topic should be explained. The bottom line is whether in the reflections of representatives of sociology of work or sociology of economy, referring to contextual perception and analysis of labour relations in Poland, some focus should be put on the issues concerning redefining the essence and content of work ethos, or rather on an analysis of a set of factors, both of endogenic and exogenous nature, which contribute to a broadly understood counter-ideology of work. Therefore, this paper presents an attempt to indicate twofold types of phenomena and processes; on the one hand, those that influence a process of individualization and fragmentation of work ethos in Poland; on the other one, those which affect content of major motivation and interpretation schemes mentioned by employees, which may become presumptions to the development of counter-ideology of work. In such circumstances, a role of work ethos in creating economic harmony, which is a special case of axionormative harmony, decreases significantly and loses its explicitly social character while increasingly becoming only one of dimensions of individual identity, professional biography or a personality profile of an individual.

Although community organizing as a method of social work began to develop in Ukraine in the 1990s, but unlike individual and group social work, the attempts to introduce it into the activities of social welfare institutions and non-governmental organizations were unsystematic and not very successful. The aim of the article is to determine the possibilities of Polish experience of community social work implementation in Ukraine, taking into account the ongoing reform of local self-government. The study, the results of which are presented in the article, was designed as a so-called desk research and based on the results of the comparative analysis of Ukrainian and Polish scientific publications, documents, official websites, etc. The historical background of community social work development in Ukraine is outlined, the analysis of Ukrainian legal acts regarding norms and principles on community organizing is conducted. The article provides an overview of Ukrainian concepts and models of community social work. Particular attention is paid to the possibilities of Polish experience’ application, while implementing community organizing into practice of social welfare institutions as well as of NGOs. Possible structural and institutional changes related to the implementation of community organizing in social work practice and its benefits for the revitalization programs were analyzed. Polish experience of establishing a nationwide circle of community social work professionals was described. The author concludes that the challenges and barriers arising before community social work in both countries are quite similar and assumes that it is reasonable to take into account Polish experience, while implementing community organizing in Ukrainian realities.

The volunteer work becomes an important element of the public domain which needs qualitative changes and creation of a new social consciousness. Characteristic features of the volunteer work are mainly connected with the fact that it focuses on a human being in need. They can also be connected with social work as a supporting activity for people in various difficult situations. Although the history of social work shows many examples of relations between volunteer work and professional social work – contemporary volunteer work cannot be identified with social work. However, the activities of many students of social studies in associations and non-governmental organizations are very important for their personal and professional development, creating their competences and gaining experiences for the future professional work. Reflections concerning the volunteer work and its role in the field of social work education are important and may be treated as an element of discussion concerning education in connection with democracy and social/public activity in general. The article includes theoretical analysis of the selected aspects of volunteer work and professional social work, discovering the possible similarities and differences between those forms of social activity and emphasizing the role of volunteer work in shaping the professional competences within the field of social work.

Objective. The study investigated the associations between diagnosed musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), work ability and demographics, work and lifestyle characteristics in a public health institution with a variety of occupations. Methods. A cross-sectional study was carried out in a public health institution in Brazil. The subjects (n = 168) aged 20–69 answered a questionnaire on demographics, work, lifestyle characteristics and the work ability index. Results. A univariate regression analysis was carried out with the presence of MSD as a dependent variable. Association was found in relation to the age group, type of work demand, tenure at the institution, body mass index, work in the nutrition and laundry sectors, being a maid in the previous job, auxiliary service and auxiliary maintenance occupations, work ability in relation to physical and mental demands, estimated work impairment due to diseases, sick leave in the past year, own prognosis of work ability in 2 years’ time and mental resources: enjoying daily activities, being active and alert, being full of hope for the future. Conclusion. The presence of MSD affected several aspects of work ability.

Processes of European identity formation are analysed here in terms of identity work and, specifically, relationship (interplay) between biographical and collective identity work. First sections of the text (1 and 2) are focussed on grounding the approach in a range of theoretical orientations (symbolic interactionism and culturalist perspectives), on outlining its methodological implications (the rationale for using the method of autobiographical narrative interviewing and various methods of text analysis), and, finally, on developing research questions and preliminary analytical dimensions of studying the collective identity work, especially in relation to European identity work, the latter being based on results of the author’s research on the minority nation society of Wales (e.g. collective identity constructions, and figurations, in terms of cultural periphery / centre, hybridity, and marginality). In the next step of analysis, these preliminary questions and dimensions are related to problems of European identity work in general. In the next section (3) overall heuristic strategies of the offered project are formulated: the attitude of refractive self-reflection, the dialogical principle of calibrating research interactants’ perspectives, a multi-layer approach to the interplay between individual experiences and a variety of collective meaning resources, the strategy of contrastive comparison of studied cases and, finally, the zooming procedure of focussing (coding) empirical materials. The last section of the text (4) relates to the objectives / expected products of the project concerning dimensions and integrated model of collective identity work in Europe, and their practical implications for a range of social / political activities in education, legislation, governance, as well as for NGOs, social arenas and social movements.

The author makes an attempt to analyze the essence of work in the context of the growing demand on innovativeness and “practical approach”, in which corporate stakeholders try to utilize all opportunities and resources within changes outlined by an increasingly globalized world. The world is based on network structures, knowledge, and the free exchange of information, people and capital. At the same time, an attempt is made to indicate that the work itself does not constitute a criterion which decides which legal form should be applied to it. It is confirmed that in the post-capitalist economy work has returned to its roots. New, flexible forms of work, such as telework, temporary work and self-employment change many properties of employment typical of a modern society to have lived in the past 100 years. Work can also be performed based on civil-law contracts (work under a nonemployment contract). This issue has led to ongoing discussions regarding the need of the equal rights for those employed within civil-law contracts and people working based on employment contracts. However, the subject of this equality and awarded protection poses a dilemma.

Zmiana preferowanych modeli pracy, która nastąpiła w okresie pandemicznym i postpandemicznym sprawiła, że zarówno praca o charakterze twórczym, jak i odtwórczym, zespołowa czy indywidualna, odbywa się dzisiaj w warunkach stacjonarnych, hybrydowych i w pełni zdalnych. Wszyscy pracownicy coraz częściej muszą sprawnie funkcjonować w rzeczywistości wirtualnej, a tym samym w warunkach fizycznego osamotnienia. Celem badań, których wyniki przedstawiono w artykule, było rozpoznanie, w jaki sposób praca w warunkach zdalnych przyczyniła się do zmiany preferencji pracowników kreatywnych i niekreatywnych wobec wykonywania obowiązków zawodowych o twórczym versus rutynowym charakterze indywidualnie versus w zespołach. Badania zrealizowano metodą ankietowania CAWI wśród 1 000 respondentów w Polsce. Zbadano ich opinie na temat preferencji świadczenia pracy o różnym charakterze w warunkach zdalnych. W rezultacie przeprowadzonego badania wykazano, że każdy z czterech badanych typów pracy stanowi wyzwanie dla pracowników, którzy pracują zdalnie. Większość badanych zadeklarowała (jeszcze w czasie trwania pandemii), że każdy z typów pracy (twórcza indywidualna, twórcza zespołowa, rutynowa indywidualna i rutynowa zespołowa) jest dla nich trudniejszy w wersji zdalnej niż stacjonarnej. Ponadto stwierdzono, że im bardziej twórczy jest charakter obowiązków, tym gorzej oceniają oni sposób radzenia sobie z wykonywaniem pracy zarówno twórczej, jak i rutynowej, zespołowo i indywidualnie. Zarządzanie pracą twórczą i odtwórczą należą do jednych z najważniejszych wyzwań współczesnych menedżerów. Obecnie wiele dyskusji naukowych dotyczy tego, jaką pracę można zautomatyzować, powierzyć sztucznej inteligencji, a jaka powinna pozostać w rękach człowieka. Niniejszy artykuł może zainteresować zarówno menedżerów, jak i psychologów i pedagogów twórczości, których zadaniem będzie przygotowanie zespołów pracowniczych do wykonywania twórczych zadań (pracy o twórczym charakterze) w warunkach zdalnych. Oryginalną wartością prezentowanej pracy jest tak szerokie ujęcie problematyki badawczej, gdzie uwzględniono zarówno preferencje wobec twórczości i odtwórczości wykonywania pracy w warunkach pracy indywidualnej zdalnej oraz zespołowej zdalnej. W artykule uwzględniono aspekty istotne zarówno z perspektywy zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi, zarządzania twórczymi zespołami, jak i zarządzania kreatywnością pracowników w warunkach wzrostu poziomu stosowania w organizacjach hybrydowego i w pełni zdalnego modelu pracy.
The change in preferred work models that occurred during the pandemic and post-pandemic period has meant that both creative and reproductive work now takes place in stationary, hybrid, and fully remote conditions. Employees, both those performing creative and reproductive work, in teams or individually, increasingly have to function efficiently in virtual reality, and thus in conditions of physical loneliness. Therefore, this article aims to identify how performing work remotely contributed to changing the preferences of creative and non-creative employees towards performing professional duties of a creative versus routine nature, individually or in teams. The research was carried out using the CAWI survey method among 1,000 respondents in Poland, examining their opinions on the preferences for performing work of various types in remote conditions. The study showed that each of the four types of work examined is a challenge for employees who work remotely, with the majority of respondents declaring that each type of work (creative individual, creative team, routine individual, and routine team) is more difficult for them than in the pre-pandemic reality. Moreover, it was found that the more creative the nature of the work performed, the more negatively employees assessed the preferences for performing creative and routine work, both in teams and individually. Managing creative and reproductive work is one of the most important challenges for modern managers. Currently, many scientific discussions concern what work can be automated or entrusted to artificial intelligence, and what should remain in human hands. This article may be of interest to managers as well as psychologists and creativity educators, whose task will be to prepare work teams to perform creative tasks (work of a creative nature) in remote conditions. The original value of the presented work is such a broad approach to research issues, considering both preferences for creativity and reproduction of work in conditions of individual remote work and remote teamwork. The article takes into account aspects that are important from the perspective of human resources management, management of creative teams, and employee creativity management with the increasing use of hybrid and fully remote work models in organisations.

The education towards the job of a social employee requires the learning of specific knowledge that ensures the interdisciplinary and versatile preparation of a future professional. In this aspect, social projects are of particular importance as due to their multitasking requirements they stimulate student activity, allow for the combination of knowledge with action and activate reflexive behaviour, which allows for the evaluation of the designed activities. The preparation and implementation of projects are related to the necessity to assume a number of roles, creating the opportunity to test oneself in new activities and to determine the degree of self-readiness to do/perform the job. The aim of the article is to highlight the educational values of designing and presenting the structure of social projects realized at the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia. The text also points out the difficulties that occur during the specific stages of project work and provides tips in order to avoid such difficulties.

In the era of digitisation, the role of remote work is growing. The digitisation of work has brought new opportunities and threats to the economic function of labour. This function, pointing to the fundamental role of employment, which is to provide added value for the employer and remuneration for the employee, has acquired a new meaning. Therefore, in the era of digitisation, it seems justified to assess the impact of remote work on labour productivity (in terms of organizational factors, cost factors and work quality). The subject of the study is to analyse the productivity factors of remote work (based on work performed under permanent and short-term employment, including various work models and irregular work patterns). The main objective of the research is to identify factors determining perceived productivity of individual workers who perform their job remotely and to measure the importance of factors determining labour productivity. The methodology used in the study is based on the analysis of the literature and conclusions drawn from a survey conducted in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary (a total sample of 450 units). Logistic regression and the k-means method were used in the statistical analysis. They allow measuring the relationship between the strength of a stimulus represented by the percentage of cases showing a specific response on how productivity is verified by the stimulus. Moreover, they bring the possibility to group factors in clusters representing workers with different sets of productivity factors. Results show that across the study sample, high stress, low employee control, and limited communication with managers minimise the growth of remote work productivity, since social relationships at work are correlated with productivity. Nonetheless, work organisation traits such as proper work environment, travel cost savings, technical assistance access, and a fast Internet connection remain positively related to remote work productivity.

Jednym z podstawowych czynników produkcji w rolnictwie jest praca. W opracowaniu poddano analizie regionalne zróżnicowanie wydajności tego czynnika, przyjmując jako miernik wartość dodaną brutto przypadającą na jedną osobę pełnozatrudnioną w rolnictwie. Zwrócono także uwagę na czynniki wpływające na poziom wydajności pracy. Jak pokazała analiza danych statystycznych, najniższa wydajność pracy występuje w regionach, gdzie jest niski poziom technicznego uzbrojenia pracy, duże zatrudnienie w rolnictwie oraz znaczne rozdrobnienie agrarne.
Work is one of basic production factors in agriculture. This paper identities and examines the regional differentiation of work efficiency assuming gross added value as measure per person. An attention was paid to the factors influencing the level of work efficiency. Statistic data analysis showed that the lowest work efficiency occurs in places and regions with both low level of work technical equipment as well as high level of employment and considerable agrarian fragmentation.

The article aims to explore the relationship between biographical work and the strategies of managing precarity (low-paid and unstable employment) and precariousness (insecurity and instability of life conditions in general) in Poland’s new capitalism. Poland witnessed the rise of precarity during the entire capitalist transformation after 1989, while the expansion of precarious, temporary, and non-standard employment accelerated in the first two decades of the 21st century. The main theoretical framework of the article is based on concepts deriving from biographical sociology and was elaborated during a joint workshop with German biographical researcher, Fritz Schütze, within the PREWORK project. The case of a young female shop assistant, Helena, with a difficult family and work background was selected from a larger sample of 63 biographical narrative interviews with precarious young workers in Poland. Based on the case study and the broader context of the research project, it is argued that biographical work may have the potential for questioning and challenging precarity; yet, without necessary biographical and social resources, such a process is hard to be completed. As a result, the paper questions the macrosocial vision of “precariat” as the “class in-the-making” and instead offers a detailed account of the microsocial ways of dealing with precarity by a representative of the most disadvantaged group of precarious young workers.

Introduction. Employees performing work underground in coal mines are exposed to the effect of many hazardous factors in their work environment which negatively affect their health. Objective. The objective of the study was to recognize the opinions of employes working underground in one of the coal mines concerning the occurrence of factors hazardous for health in their work environment. Materials and method. The study was conducted in a group of 700 persons working underground in the ‘Bogdanka’ coal mine in Łęczna (Eastern Poland). The study was carried out using a questionnaire. The results were statistically analyzed using software STATISTICA v. 7.1. Results. The vast majority of respondents (approximately 80%) reported that noise and dustiness at their workplace create risk for their health. More than a half of them mentioned that the microclimate in the mine threatens their health (high humidity and high temperature), and a half of respondents indicated vibration and poor lighting. The greatest differences of opinions concerning the effect of hazardous factors on health of persons employed in the mine were observed in the sub-groups distinguished according to the work position. Health risk at a workplace was most often identified by those employed as miners. Conclusions. Among actions reducing the negative effect of the work environment on health is the introduction of new, safer technologies of coal mining. Also, the human factor is very important for work safety in mining, including the proper preparation of employees who undertake work in a mine. It is recommended that new, more effective educational programmes are implemented in the area of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) at workplaces.

Values define the directions of human activities and are related to people’s motivation to undertake specific activities and roles (Schwartz, 1994; Brown, 2002). Researchers and employers observe differences in motivation to work among representatives of different generations and genders (Twenge, Campbell, & Freeman, 2012; Gursoy & Karadag, 2013). In this research project, the authors asked what motivated contemporary employees, whether the intensity of their motives was different in different generations, what relationships there were between the dominant work motives and employees’ dominant values, and whether there were differences between women and men regarding work motives. To verify the hypotheses, they conducted a study with a sample of 307 professionally active people. They used their own Types of Work Motives Questionnaire designed for the purposes of the study and the Valued Living Questionnaire (VLQ; Wilson & Murrell, 2004). The obtained results indicate that younger employees choose the kind of work that gives them comfort and adequate pay. Regardless of age, however, social security support is the most important for all groups of respondents. For women, security and social security support are important at work. Moreover, the study has shown that there is a relationship between work values and work motives. For example people who appreciate values such as friendship and stability are motivated to work by good relationships and security, those who value recreation and stability are motivated by comfort and salary, those for whom respect and education are crucial are motivated by the possibility of development etc.

Audiowizualny utwór naukowy to dzieło, w którym twórcy przedstawiają fakty i teorie naukowe wykorzystując jako tworzywo artystyczne światło i dźwięk. Ze względu na występowanie w utworach tego rodzaju warstwy naukowej w ekipie filmowej obok przedstawicieli typowych zawodów filmowych pojawiają się reprezentanci świata nauki. Pełnią oni różne role przy produkcji filmu. Mogą wypowiadać się na ekranie albo pełnić rolę tzw. konsultantów naukowych. Wypowiedź na ekranie może być utworem naukowym (podobnym do klasycznego wykładu akademickiego). Producent filmu zawiera z naukowcami występującymi na ekranie umowy o produkcję audiowizualną. Rola naukowca może sprowadzać się także konsultacji poprawności merytorycznej komentarza słownego czy też poprawności tłumaczenia komentarza w utworze audiowizualnym możliwe jest zarówno zawarcie umowy o produkcję audiowizualną albo odrębnej umowy dotyczącej „recenzji” komentarza słownego. W umowach takich strony przewidują, że naukowiec otrzymuje wynagrodzenie za udział w realizacji filmu. Autor stawia tezę, że naukowcy nie są twórcami filmowymi w związku z czym nie uzyskują dodatkowego wynagrodzenia z tytułu dystrybucji filmu. Dlatego wynagrodzenie za udział w realizacji filmu powinno być ustalone na takiej wysokości aby uwzględniało przewidywalne dochody z eksploatacji naukowego utworu audiowizualnego.
The scientific audiovisual work is a work, when the authors represent the facts and scientific theories , using light and sound as an artistic material. Due to the presence in works of this scientific layer, the representatives of science world appear in film crew besides representatives of typical film professions. They play different roles on film production. They can speak out on the screen or perform the role of so-called scientific consultants. The speech on screen can be a scientific work (similar to classic academic lecture). Film producer concludes agreements on audiovisual production with scientists, who perform on the screen. The role of scientist can come down also to a consultation for substantive correctness of verbal comment or either for comment translation correctness on audiovisual work it is possible both, the conclusion of agreement on audiovisual production or a separate agreement relative to “review” of verbal comment. In these agreements the sides foresee that the scientist receive the remuneration for participation in film production. The Author makes the assessment that the scientists are not film creators, therefore they do not receive additional remuneration for film distribution. For this reason the remuneration for participation in film production should be set up at the level, which would consider expected incomes from scientific audiovisual work exploitation.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę nieodpłatnej pracy w Polsce. Podjęto również próbę określenia najważniejszych rozwiązań, które mogą zmienić jej postrzeganie, by stała się pracą odpłatną. Wiadomo, że ma ona istotny wpływ na rynek pracy, więc znaczenie ekonomiczne nieopłaconej pracy musi być bardzo duże. Ta sama działalność może być przecież płatna, jak i nieodpłatna, w zależności od kontekstu społecznego, dlatego szczególną uwagę zwrócono na główne rodzaje pracy nieodpłatnej, co pozwoliło autorowi zaprezentować kilka rozwiązań tych problemów. Realizacja wskazanego wyżej celu badawczego jest oparta na źródłach danych zastanych. W analizie ilościowej tych danych zastosowano metodę opisową i porównawczą z uwzględnieniem danych GUS z różnych lat.
The article presents the analysis of unpaid work in Poland. Also an attempt was made to present the most important solutions that can change its perception to become paid work. It is known that it has a significant impact on the labour market, so the economic significance of unpaid work must be large. The same activity can be paid as well as unpaid, depending on the social context, therefore special attention was paid to the main types of unpaid work, which allowed the author to distinguish several solutions to these problems. The implementation of the above-mentioned research goal is based on the sources of existing data. In the quantitative analysis of these data, a descriptive method was applied, taking into account CSO data from various years.

Objectives The number of craniectomies and the consequent reconstructive procedures has grown during the past decades. Cranial defects and methods of their repair could have some influence on work capability of the patients and their employability. Material and Methods The authors analyzed a group of 112 patients with cranial defects treated in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical University of Lodz, Poland, in the course of the katamnestic period longer than 6 months after reconstructive operation, and observed them between February 2008 and February 2015. Their work capability and employment were compared, all the patients were interviewed concerning the reasons for not working according to the Social Insurance Institution predication procedure. Results Before the cranioplasty, all the patients were capable of working without limitations according to biological criteria and 89 of them were employed. Twenty-three not working people consisted of 6 pupils, 7 retired and 10 not working for other reasons. During the period between the craniectomy and the cranioplasty, 88 patients were capable of working and only 2 were employed. After the reconstruction, 93 were capable of working without limitations and 16 – with limitations. Forty-seven were employed during the period of the follow-up, the rest of patients consisted of 2 pupils, 13 retired and 50 not working for various reasons. Conclusions Cranioplasty is a very important factor contributing to return to work. This outcome may be seen as having a great social value and be added to the functions of cranial repair as protective, esthetic and normalizing the intracranial pressure previously described in the literature. Objectives The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and the level of complementary and supplementary person–organization fit (P–O fit). Material and Methods The study sample was a group of 600 Polish workers, urban residents aged 19–65. Level of P–O fit was measured using the Subjective Person–Organization Fit Questionnaire by Czarnota-Bojarska. The binomial multivariate logistic regression was applied. The analyzes were performed separately for the men and women. Results Socio-demographic variables explained small percentage of the outcome variability. Gender differences were found. In the case of men shift work decreased complementary and supplementary fit, while long working hours decreased complementary fit. In the women, age was a stimulant of a complementary fit, involuntary job losses predicted both complementary and supplementary misfit. Additionally, relational responsibilities increased probability of supplementary P–O fit in the men. Conclusions Going beyond personality and competences as the factors affecting P–O fit will allow development of a more accurate prediction of P–O fit. The aim of the paper is to present determinants of work-family conflict for working men and women in Poland. Two types of such conflict were studied – from work to family and from family to work. Due to the fact that mostly parents are exposed for those types of conflict, the analysis is restricted to men and women with children up to 14 years old. The analysis is conducted separately for men and women since differences in division of duties in families may result in differences in determinants of work-family conflict. We are interested in the influence of workplace and family characteristics on both types of conflict. The model analysis is based on data from the second wave of the Gender and Generations Survey for Poland. We conclude that in Poland both types of conflict exist, but the intensity of work-family conflict is bigger than family-work conflict. In case of each type of conflict, its intensity is similar for men and women, but the determinants of those types of conflict vary across gender.

The aim of this article is to analyse the term “copyright” under the Polish Act on Copyright and Neighbouring Rights. To this end, the author discusses statutory requirements with a strong emphasis put on a doctrine and judicial decisions. Issues concerned with derivative work are also mentioned. In the context of plagiarism relevant cases are presented. In conclusion, the author concurs with the Polish court’s jurisprudence.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest prezentacja koncepcji analizy determinant systemu czasu pracy w przedsiębiorstwie oraz przedstawienie narzędzi tej analizy na podstawie wyników badań empirycznych. Analiza czasu pracy nadal pozostaje słabo rozpoznanym zagadnieniem analizy ekonomicznej. Podstawowym problemem badawczym jest identyfikacja luki organizacyjnej, którą można opisać jako różnicę między metodą pracy stosowaną w firmie a stosowanym systemem czasu pracy, jak również wskazanie możliwych sposobów eliminacji tej luki. Przyjęto tezę, która zakłada zgodność między systemem czasu pracy a metodą pracy. Wspomniana w artykule koncepcja metody pracy obejmuje: elementy systemu produkcyjnego, elementy systemu pracy, warunki pracy uwzględniające work–life balance. Systemy te (podsystemy metody pracy) powinny uwzględniać zasadę ekonomiczności działania. Przyjęta procedura analizy (metodologia badawcza) proponowana w artykule obejmuje następujące etapy: identyfikację jednostek organizacyjnych i podstruktur przedsiębiorstwa oraz zastosowanej metody pracy, analizę i ocenę systemu czasu pracy, jak również wskazanie rozwiązań prowadzących do usprawnienia systemu czasu pracy. W oparciu o przyjętą tezę w części empirycznej artykułu przedstawiono wyniki badań w postaci studium przypadku (analiza case study). Opisano i oceniono systemy czasu pracy wraz ze zidentyfikowanymi metodami pracy w przedsiębiorstwach z branż elektrycznej i spożywczej. Wyniki analizy ekonomicznej uzupełniono opiniami kadry zarządzającej i pracowników, które przysłużą się poprawie istniejącego systemu czasu pracy. Metody badawcze, które wykorzystano do realizacji tak nakreślonego celu, to: analiza wcześniejszych wyników badań, analiza ekonomiczna, elementy analizy ergonomicznej, wywiad i ankieta.
The aim of the article is to present the concept of the analysis determinants of the work time system in the enterprise and the display of tools this analysis as well as the presentation of empirical research results. Work time analysis still remains a poorly recognized issue of economic analysis. The basic research problem is the identification of the organizational gap, which can be described as the difference between the working method used in the company and the employed working time system, as well as indication of the possible ways of the gap elimination. A thesis, assuming the correspondence between the working time system and the working method, was adopted. The concept of working method mentioned in the article includes: elements of the production system, elements of the work system, working conditions as a rule and work–life balance. These systems (subsystems of the working method) should take into account the principle of economy of operation. The course of analytical procedure (research methodology, suggested in the article, includes the following stages: identification of organizational units and substructures of the enterprise as well as the applied method of work, analysis and evaluation of the working time system, determination of ways, to improve the working time system. In support of the thesis, the empirical part of the article presents the results of research in the form of a case study (case study analysis). It describes and assesses work time systems together with identified methods of work in the electrical industry enterprise and food industry. The economic analysis results were supplemented with opinions of the management staff and employees, being used to improve the existing working time system. The research methods were used to implement the indicated purpose: the analysis of the prior research results, economic analysis, the elements of ergonomic analysis, interview and questionnaire.

Tak długo, jak główną przyczyną wypadków przy pracy będą nieprawidłowe zachowania pracowników, działania zmierzające do zmniejszenia liczby wypadków przy pracy koncentrować się będą na przewidywaniu oraz dążeniu do zmian tych zachowań. W kontekście postulowanego przez wielu psychologów społecznych związku przyczynowego pomiędzy postawą a zachowaniem człowieka, coraz większego znaczenia nabiera charakterystyka postaw pracowników wobec bezpieczeństwa pracy oraz umiejętne kształtowanie tych postaw. W artykule omówiono trzy podejścia do zmiany postawy: poznawcze, społeczne i behawioralne.
For as long as the main cause to accidents at work is going to be incorrect employees behaviour, all actions leading to diminishing the number of such accidents will focus on predicting certain attitudes and changing them. In the light ot the connection between an human attitude and behavior postulated by many social psychologists, employees attitude towards the occupational safety and heafth characteristics gains on importance just as well as skillful shaping of these bearings The article describes three types of approach towards changing employee's attitude cognitive, social and behavioral.

The article deals with occupational health and safety in the context of the emergence of a new threat of COVID-19 disease. It focuses on occupational stress and organizational problems experienced by employees in the context of economic problems of companies and administrative restrictions caused by pandemic crisis situation. The research question of the article is: How do the employees adapt to the initial phase of coronavirus crisis situation in their working environment? The theoretical part of the article contains the comparative analysis of the psychosocial hazards and proposal of their classification with the reference to COVID-19 syndrome. The research part analyzes the current results of survey studies dedicated to the perception of pandemic by employees in Poland. In the conclusion the author advocates for including new psychosocial work hazards which appear in connection to COVID-19 outbreak into already existing official lists of work-related psychosocial risks. It is especially recommended in case of evaluation of occupational health and safety in flexible work and remote work models.

Research background: Job crafting based on individual initiative represents a new form of work design, supporting stability in increasing work performance. In many cases, this method proves to be an effective way of increasing employees' work engagement, mainly because of the mediated autonomy in their work performance and the greater meaningfulness that results from it. The basis of job crafting is employee support, which initiates working behavior focused on proactivity in creating and adapting work to the subjective requirements of the employee's individuality. The available literature highlights various approaches that mediate individual topics, with which companies try to stimulate employee behavior, the expected result of which is job crafting, which leads to an increase in work performance. Purpose of the article: The goal of the study is to identify current research directions in the field of job crafting, specifically in relation to increasing work performance. Methods: The Web of Science database was used to identify the main directions of research in the relevant literature. Research was directed at peer-reviewed articles published in journals indexed in SSCI as Q1 and Q2. The resulting number of articles was identified based on the PRISMA selection method. Findings & value added: By analyzing the literary sources, we have identified 4 important research topics that the authors of the scientific articles addressed. The most widespread topic was work engagement and its influence on job crafting. In the second topic, the authors addressed the issue of how job crafting supports the meaningfulness of work. The third research topic that the authors addressed was job crafting as a factor of employee autonomy. The fourth theme identified was the influence of leadership and management support on job-crafting behavior. The paper offers the reader a systematic and clear list of available quality resources that can help them in their personal research related to job crafting and work performance. In addition, the results of our research may be useful for companies trying to improve the work performance of their employees.

The article discusses the issues related to the employment of prisoners in Poland and in other countries. The author refers to some legal provisions regulating the question of who can undertake an employment while serving time in prison, what requirements must be met by convincts who work while imprisoned. Then, the article discusses particular professions performed by prisoners. An important element of the article is also apresentation of socio-psychological aspects of rendering work while incarcerated. Since one of the reasons for writing this article was the announcement in 2016 of the “Work for prisoners” programme, a significant part of the article is devoted to discussion of this project. An attempt is made to answer the question: Has the governmental programme in question proved successful? Instrumental in answering this question is a comparison of a number of prisoners before the start of the said programme, and while being a part of its operation. The article also includes some examples of influencing prisoners already successfully implemented in other countries.

Co decyduje o tym czy zachowujemy się bezpiecznie, czy zbyt ryzykownie lub czasami nawet bezmyślnie. Jakie cechy człowieka o tym decydują oraz jakie sytuacje sprzyjają takim zachowaniom. W artykule omówiono tylko niektóre uwarunkowania zachowań bezpiecznych, jak: lęk, cechy temperamentu, poziom doświadczenia zawodowego oraz ogólna kultura bezpieczeństwa.
Statistics show that inappropriate approximately 50% of the total number of accidents. What determines our safe or too risky even mindless behavior? Which human traits and what situations are conductive to such behaviors? This article discusses some determinants of safe behaviors: anxiety, temperamental traits, occupational experience and general safety culture.

Gerontological social work becomes more and more autonomous field of social work and its specificity is connected with the profile of service receivers. Elderly are the social group, who compared to other socially weak groups, have a higher level of capabilities – financial, personal, life-span, relations. They also have various needs and huge diversification inside of this age group. They are a very challenging group in the social care system because of tension between higher resources and increasing need of support. The aim of the article is to show how the gerontological social work can be described in the wide context of social work theory. There is also an attempt to define and to show the distinctness of gerontological social work as the tool of acting. The perspective of description is more theoretical than formal.

The presented text tries to answer the question: What kind of work ethos was confirmed by the life and actions of Adam Woroniecki (father Jacek, Dominican monk) and Kazimiera Wołowska (sister Marta, sister of the Immaculate Conception)? Solving this problem in the contents of the article, the following points were raised: Work ethos as the subject of pedagogical research; Childhood and youth of Adam Woroniecki and Kazimiera Wołowska as the time of preparation for choosing the life paths; Implementing monastic vocations as fulfilment of the Christian ethos of work; The testimony of life as the essence of practicing the Christian ethos of work by father Jacek and sister Marta.

The phenomenon of achieving or experiencing professional satisfaction carries a multitude of possibilities of interpretation. It is also determined by various factors. In this paper we assume that job satisfaction is an important aspect of teachers’ work quality. Perception of their work and the degree of work satisfaction affect the professional activity of teachers – the level of involvement and identification with the profession, creativity, motivation for development. The aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this article, is to search for relationships between autotelic and normative attitudes of teachers towards work and their work satisfaction. The study, which involved 367 teachers employed in Polish universities, is on linear relations and uses a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of these studies made it possible to identify the main predictors of contemporary academics’ job satisfaction and confirmed the fact that the satisfaction is in the area of teaching and research, and depends – to a greater extent – on the presented attitude towards work rather than received social support and work atmosphere. Interpersonal relationships in the workplace, however, proved a major determinant of the level of satisfaction with the organizational work for the university.

Subject and purpose of work: Remote work is a phenomenon which has rapidly intensified as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. The article presents the scale of remote work in Poland before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, i.e. until 2020, and directly during the pandemic, i.e. from 2020 to the first half of 2021. The topics discussed concern: the concept of remote work, the level and structure of persons working remotely in Poland and changes in their number in the recent years as compared to those across the world and within the European Union Member States by sectors of ownership, particular regions of the country and a type of socio-economic activity. Moreover, positive and negative consequences of remote work for employees, employers and their families are presented. Materials and methods: The analysis concerning the development of remote work is based on many sources: data from Eurostat, Eurofound, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Statistics Poland, as well as surveys conducted by national and foreign consulting companies dealing with the labour market. The following have been applied: a descriptive analysis allowing identification of basic data in the scope of share of remote workers, an analysis of dynamics identifying changes in the studied scope and a comparative analysis assessing the scale of remote workers in the country with regard to the data noted in the EU states. Results: Before the pandemic in 2018, in Poland – in comparison to the EU states – the share of employees who had the possibility of working remotely was below average and amounted to approx. 4.6% (whereas in the whole EU 5.2% of persons aged between 15 and 64 years old regularly worked remotely from home). In 2020, the share of persons who “usually work from home” doubled in our country in comparison to the data for 2018 and amounted to 8.9%. The largest share of remote workers in the general number of workers at the end of the 1st quarter of 2021 was noted in the following sectors: financial and insurance services (36.1%), education (45.9%) and IT (66.8%). These sectors were also the leaders in digitalisation and automation before the pandemic. Conclusions: Remote work is a flexible form of employment, which has recently developed , due to the coronavirus pandemic in Poland and globally on a mass scale and at an unprecedented pace. This form of work using the newest information and communication technologies (ICT) has changed work and workplaces, as well as opened new divisions on the labour market since better educated persons living in urban areas are better prepared to work outside their employers’ premises.

The shift work system may affect the temporal distribution of eating and diet quality. The paper aimed at reviewing a body of research examining the associations between night shift work and dietary habits among nurses. Data from the PubMed and Google Schoolar databases, as well as references lists in selected papers were searched. The authors used the following keywords: nurses, shift work, diet, nutrition. Papers published in English or Polish were selected for the review, and as many as 19 papers published in 2000−2017 were eventually identified. The studies varied greatly with respect to the study size, subjects’ age and the duration of night shift work. The major problem was the heterogeneity of the tools used for dietary assessment. Self-administered questionnaires were used and analyses were rarely adjusted for confounders. Alcohol consumption was the most frequently analyzed aspect (N = 8 studies), followed by the total energy (N = 7), protein, fat (N = 6), and carbohydrate intake, coffee and fruit consumption (N = 5). The results showed quite a consistent association of night work with higher coffee (caffeine) consumption, as well as lower alcohol, and fruit and vegetables consumption. Few studies also reported more frequent snacks consumption, later time of the last meal, eating at night, meals irregularity, and a poorer diet quality among night shift nurses when compared to the reference. The review showed some poor nutritional habits among nurses working night shifts. However, the topic warrants further attention, owing to the relatively small number of the studies performed so far, and their numerous methodological limitations. Med Pr. 2019;70(3):363–76

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore configurations of positive versus negative interactions between work and home (WHI) and their relation to burnout and demographic characteristics. Material and Methods: Sample of 533 Polish workers were interviewed by means of self-administered questionnaires (SWING and MBI-GS). Demographic and work characteristics were also controlled. Results: Cluster analysis distinguished 5 types of WHIs: positive WHI (18%), negative WHI (15.9%), no interaction (29.3%), mutual positive interactions (15.4%) and positive HWI (21.4%). The quality of WHI was associated with number of work hours and tenure at main place of employment. The effect of gender on the quality of work-home interaction was not significant. Configuration of WHIs affected the level of burnout. Again, there was no significant difference between men and women in terms of burnout and its sub-dimensions. The least burned-out were people from positive WHI, positive HWI and mutual positive interaction groups. The most burned-out were people who experienced negative WHI the most often. In this group, predominance of men working more than 10 h per day was observed. The majority of study group (71%) experienced rather integration than segmentation of both spheres. Conclusions: Our results suggest that segmentation is not an universal and effective strategy of coping with work and home demands – it may prevent the positive home-work spillover, which can be buffer or remedy against stress or burnout. We consider cluster analysis the appropriate method in research on relation to work-family balance issue, which may be useful in unraveling relationships between this phenomenon and attitudes and behaviors.

In the paper the problem of personnel allocation under threat was presented. The possibilities of undertaking optimization measures in the process of workers’ health and safety and expenses incurred were emphasized. A mathematical model for this issue has been formulated. An algorithm solving the problem of staff allocation was presented. The evaluation criterion for this assignment was the minimization of worker safety risks. Simultaneous optimization of expenses incurred in the implementation of production tasks was taken into account. The productivity of the staff and all existing jobs with the skills of the employees also was considered. This problem was solved using GNU Octave. The example presented in the paper shows that in case of the most unfavorable allocation of tasks to employees, it will lead to a significant reduction in profits and may increase the risk of undesirable situations. The proposed analysis is the starting point for determining the risk in case of multi-position work.

This paper considers relations between the assessment of work characteristics and the tendency of Poles aged 50+ to transit from employment into retirement. Using the results from two surveys carried out under the SHARE project, the hypothesis was verified that there are associations between the evaluation of current work features and the inclination to retire as soon as possible. The direction and strength of the relationships between the opinions expressed by respondents were evaluated by measures adequate for categorical variables. The analysis was supported by visualizations of fourfold contingency tables. The study indicates that there are statistically significant relations between the perception of some work characteristics and the tendency of Poles to quit the labor market, but the strength of these associations is rather weak. The obtained result suggests that the substantial determinants of willingness to retirement are probably different in nature.

Work is a fundamental phenomenon for the development of a single person as well as whole societies. It constitutes one of the elementary and, at the same time, the most important aspect of the public existence. It is impossible to separate the process of educating from work, because being one of the most important methods of educating and socializing a child, work is the aim as well as the result of educating. The pre-school period and experience gained at this stage of education influence a child’s future and development in a remarkable way. At that time children, for the first time, face new challenges, fulfill particular roles, do their duties and are happy and satisfied with a job well done. While being accustomed to work a child develops new skills, they learn to appreciate their and others’ work, they learn discipline, and responsibility. A child begins to understand the social sense of work and what it means to them. While participating in various kinds of works, they get to know the reality better, they satisfy curiosity, they broad their knowledge, shape desirable attitude and features of character. It also helps them develop their motor skills and neural system, as well as intensify the sense of social bond, and increase self-confidence. Educational activities, which accustom a child to work during a pre-school period in an interesting, attractive and joyful way, not only introduce a child to the world of a real work but also positively influence the comprehensive child development in all areas of their activity.

The aim of this paper is to encourage managers and active employees to measure the work ethicality of a company's staff. If it is below 60 percent, they should make projections as to which principles of ethics in work have not been applied to date, but should be applied in order to improve ethicality as well as make evaluations of the effects of pro-ethical actions. The methods and managerial tools needed to manage this process effectively (Management by Ethicality: Socially Responsible Management) are presented in the 'Work Ethicality Standard EC1000' (Exposure draft), published in Polish on line at (an English version will be available mid–2010). This standard is a research result of a research project financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and carried out by the Bogdan Janski Higher School in Warsaw.

Qualitative field research can capture the life worlds and definitions of the situation of informants often not reported in quantitative studies. Post hoc reflections of how more seasoned researchers define, assess, and interpret the process of entering the field and the interview dynamic between the researcher’s subjectivity and the subjectivity of informants are widespread in the qualitative research literature. However, seldom are the personal stories and reflections of neophyte researchers voiced in published accounts. This article accounts for my experiences in researching the “dirty work” of frontline caseworkers and the importance of practicing empathy while managing a boundary. I emphasize the practical sense-making challenges of managing a delicate balance between under and over rapport in researching homeless shelter caseworkers as an occupational group. My experiences underscore the challenging dynamics of maintaining a professionally oriented research-role, as well as the crucial importance of boundary work and distancing as practical strategies to qualitative interviewing.

The problem of normalization, autonomy and self-determination of people with intellectual disabilities in special education has already taken its place. The consequence of this continuing discourse is the personal nature of disability, international, timeless declarations and modifications of already established rights. Recently, the emancipatory trend is gaining in importance in this discourse. It remains in close correlation with the primary objective of educating people with intellectual disabilities which is comprehensive preparation for life. It is a form of conscious self-reliance, self-knowledge and capacity to take autonomous action. One of the areas of development of self-reliance is work. The resulting interpersonal and intrapersonal experiences can become the path to emancipation. Sometimes, one that goes beyond the standards of rehabilitation.

When talking about burnout syndrome, it is important to highlight the fact that burnout syndrome is the result of long-term chronic stress. In this context, it is important to define stress as a phenomenon that inherently belongs to the life of living beings and therefore of man. This process can be understood as a process that is still developing (Kebza, Šolcová, 1998). Canadian physiologist Hans Selye defined stress as a condition manifested in the form of a specific syndrome, which represents the sum of all non-specific changes induced within a given biological system (Selye, 1996). Košč (2003) defined stress as a non-specific response to any demand that is placed on it. It may also be understood as a general adaptation syndrome a phylogenetic development developed by the response of higher organisms to a life-saving, promising preparation for an attack or escape. fight or flight. The stress itself can not be avoided, because this effort would be stressful by itself. If we look at the issue from a physical point of view, the very concept of stress means the pressure that acts on the body and causes its distortion. From a psychological point of view, it means a certain amount of effort, that is, the demands placed on the individual’s physical and mental energy. Goldstein (1993) states that stress can also be seen as a threat and disruption of the body’s homeostasis. W.B.Cannon (1915) defined the alarm theory of emotions as the response of the organism to stress by adrenergic activation with metabolic consequences for energy to fight or flight (Kryl, 2004). In terms of stress alone, it is important to define terms such as stressors and salutaries. All negative living factors leading to stress itself are called stressors. They can be divided into: • external stressors (noise, sensory deprivation, hazard); • Barriers that hinder satisfying primary needs (food, sleep and rest) • Performance-related burdens (timing, extreme demands, or monotonous work) • social stressors (interpersonal and social problems), • Conflicts (Křivohlavý, 2003). In this context, the stressor can also be an activity related to a certain risk, sense of responsibility and competition as well as situations related to the examination, bankruptcy and conflicting situations. Physical or natural factors can be accidents, cold, noise, heat, time-consuming activity, risk-related activity, expectation of threat, inadequate qualification due to tasks, cognitive, emotional or social deprivation, hostility to the social environment, lack of privacy, or too many interactions (Verešová, 2007).

Social work is an occupation, in which, one helps other people for free. The main purpose of this help is to improve the social function of the individual, who because of difficult situation, is unable to improve his/her status on his/her own. Future of the individual depends (partly or completely) on the help offered by the social worker [Praca socjalna, 2002: 14]. The goal of social work is to stop the process of social exclusion (marginalization) by deleting its causes. This way of understanding the term of social work should be distinguished from the term of social help, which helps citizens mainly financially. Sometimes, in practice, it is quite hard to distinguish social work from social help because one of the goals of social help is social, and professional stimulation of people who are socially excluded from the society due to poverty, what in fact, covers with social work.

Work makes people realize their value. It unfolds in all dimensions of human life: somatic, emotional, mental, spiritual and moral. For this reason, it is impossible to separate from it the operation and process of education. Education is an essential aid in the discovery of man's possibilities. Responsibility and work for functioning education is always carried out in a social context, and produces some specific environments of formation in the community. Natural educational environment is that of family, school, workplace and other institutions. The impact of the participation, interactions and role models is characteristic for all these groups. The human existence and society depends on the proper work in the field of education.

The purpose of social work is both solve existing social problems, and taking preventive action. The term "social prevention", just as "social work", has two Basic meanings. First, it means all activities, which resulted in no problems arisethat require intervention by the welfare institutions, and second, the scientific domain (within the discipline of sociology), which are the subject of these actions, and the aim to find optimal methods and techniques to prevent the formationsocial pathologies. Extract the research discipline, which would cover the causes of social problems and ways to eliminate poszukiwałaby these reasons, it follows from the fact thatthe field dealing with similar issues only capture some aspects of it. Relatively best study of the causes of social problems involved in social pedagogy andsocial work theory, but an effective prophylactic effect also requires the coherent interaction between these levels of society, which are not the domain of these twofields, such as education, health care, rehabilitation, mass media, etc . look for methods of prevention of negative social phenomena are also responsible forsuch areas of knowledge, as the theory of rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, etc. Each of these disciplines examine, however, as mentioned, only some aspects of these negative phenomena, while the social reality is not composed of the areas corresponding to objects of study of these various sciences, but aconsistent set of factors that affect individuals and social groups at the same time, mutually conditioning and modifying.set of factors that affect individuals and social groups at the same time, mutually conditioning and modifying.

The notion of a method is not identical with the notion of model of social work, although different models assume different methods of work. Many models of social work have been created. One can mention, for example, the psychosocial model (based on the assumption that the cause of the problems of an individual are unconscious, unrealized conflicts and unfulfilled, subconscious needs; the solution of the problems is sought through an analysis of events and experiences from the past), problemic, structural, model of modification of behaviours; group therapy, resocialization model, crisis model etc. Thus, in the functional model, one puts the emphasis on building the relation with the ward, maximal use of the time given and avoiding diagnostic categories as useless in social work. The problem-oriented model bases on the assumption that problems are an inevitable element of life, their solution is sought through analysing present factors, the main emphasis is put on the ward's involvement in the solving of the problem, the task of the social worker is determining the ward's subjective attitude to the problem and motivating him to action. The structural model is based on the assuption that the individual's problems are the effect of a definite social structure and they do not result from personal neglect, and the basis of help is support for the client and his immediate social environment. The model of behaviour modification, based on psychological behaviourism, assumes that through employing knowledge about the mechanisms of learning one can change attitudes and the way the individual reacts49. It is worth mentioning also models which integrate social work with individuals, groups and communities. An example of such a model is the systemic model, in the frames of which one can differentiate several variants, e. g. ecological, life model, competence model). In the systemic model one emphasizes the improvement of relations between the ward and his or her social environment through seeking a system of social support, rejecting the view that the ward's situation can be improved through actions directed exclusively onto him or her or their environment methods.

Opis:
The work highlights the different approaches work with at-risk youth with behavioral disorders. Describe the socio-pathological phenomena in contemporary society, the family and family education, which result in socially and educationally deprived environment. We are approaching the process of socialization, behavioral and characterize their classification. We stress the importance and possibilities of prevention, particularly early detection of behavioral disorders. It highlights the importance of teamwork in the process of assessment and intervention provided clients with educational needs. The work is focused on professional activities in special-educational facility that provides help achieve positive change in clients with behavioral problems and when incorporated into the social environment. Part of the work is casuistic study of a particular client is a description of significant factors: family ties and relationships, pathological behaviors, educational approaches, the possibility of re-education, attitudes, values. The information obtained we used the recommendations and proposals for practice.
