In the paper results of fitting of current-voltage (I-V) curves acquired in a wide range of irradiances and temperatures with use of equivalent either single (SEM) or double (DEM) diode model as applied to several commercial thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules are presented. It is shown that like in case of crystalline silicon PV modules also for CIGS (CuInGaSe2) as well as CdTe thin-film modules both models may be reliably applied whereas in case a-Si (amorphous silicon), whether it is single or multi-junction structure, obtained results can not be accepted as being credible.

The structure and the dynamics of the argon thin film coating (15,4) and (12,12) carbon nanotubes have been studied in a series of molecular dynamic simulations. In the studied temperature regime, the argon atoms in the thin film were well localized. Structural changes and diffusion process inside the argon layers were not been observed. The influence of the chirality and the radius of the nanotube to the cluster properties is also reported.

Titanium dioxide thin films have been deposited on silicon wafers substrates by an atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. There optical parameters were investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry and UV/VIS spectroscopy. A material with a refractive index of 2.41 was obtained. Additionally, in a wide spectral range it was possible to reduce the reflection from the silicon surface below 5%. The Raman spectroscopy method was used for structural characterization of anatase TiO2 thin films. Their uniformity and chemical composition are confirmed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS).

When designing new biomaterials for tissue contact devices it is important to consider their architecture as it affects different cell response. Surface modification of tubular structures requires the use of different techniques than in the case of flat samples. Similarly, analytical techniques also need to be adapted to the specific shape of substrate. For blood contacting devices this issue is critical because of shear forces generated by fluid flow and responsible for blood components activation. This necessitates the use of diagnostic techniques dedicated for material analysis in dynamic conditions in order to simulate physiological conditions. In the frame of the work, the flat samples as well as tube like elements were considered. The flat samples were prepared for basic research. Based on the results of the basic research the thin coatings were selected for the internal side of the tube like elements which have been analysed in contact with blood using blood flow simulator. The cross section of the coating-substrate interaction was tested using transmission electron microscopy. The attachment of cells to coatings was determined by radial flow chamber. Hemocompatible analysis was carried out in two ways. The quality of the blood after the dynamic test was analysed using flow cytometry. In this case the aggregates formation, platelet consumption and apoptosis derived microparticles were considered. The amount of cells adhered to the materials surfaces was determined by confocal laser microscopy.

Cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films were formed by chemical spray pyrolysis technique for different substrate type (glass, quartz, ITO). Absorption spectra were recorded from UV-Visible spectrophotometer in the range of 300-900 nm. The absorbance increased when the glass substrate replaced to quartz or ITO substrate, also this behavior for absorption coefficient and extinction coefficient. While the refractive index tack unstable behavior. The energy gap decreased from 2.4 eV for CdO thin film deposited on glass substrate to 2.36 eV for CdO thin film deposited on ITO substrate.

This paper presents some results of investigations on aluminum oxide Al2O3 thin films prepared by the atomic layer deposition method on polished monocrystalline silicon. It has been described how the technological parameters of the deposition process, like the number of cycles and substrate temperature, influenced the optical properties and morphology of prepared thin films. Their physical and optical properties like thickness, uniformity and refractive index have been investigated with spectroscopic ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy and UV/vis optical spectroscopy.

The improvement of product quality as well as the increase of production efficiency is inevitable in modern manufacturing processes. In this regard an increased cutting speed causes dangerous process situations in respect to operator safety and machine damage. In addition to that wood working machines generally do not use process monitoring systems, e. g. tool breakage monitoring. The aim of this project was the development of a process monitoring system to increase safety in wood working processes. Therefore, the Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology (IWF) and the Fraunhofer-Institute of Surface Engineering and Thin Films (FhG IST) developed a sensor-integrated tool holder, which is able to detect clamping forces and unbalances during the process. The hollow shank taper 'HSK-63-F' was chosen as tool holder as it is used in the majority of applications in wood working processes. The clamping and balance conditions are measured by an embedded piezo-resistive thin film sensor at the planar contact surface. To ensure a contact-free signal transmission a telemetric system was used. The interaction between this monitoring system and the machine control automatically activates an emergency stop. Hence, a system was developed which significantly increases the process safety during the run-up and the idle speed phase of the spindle.

An analysis is presented for a micro-contact where boundary and hydrodynamic fluid films simultaneously occur considering boundary slippage appearance at the upper contact surface in the boundary film area. The contact is one-dimensional, composed of two parallel plane surfaces, which are respectively rough rigid with rectangular projection in profile and ideally smooth rigid. In the outlet zone of the contact a boundary film occurs, and in the inlet zone of the contact a conventional hydrodynamic fluid film emerges. In the boundary film area, the film slips at the upper contact surface due to the limited shear stress capacity of the film-contact interface, while the film does not slip at the lower contact surface due to the shear stress capacity of the film-contact interface, which is large enough. In the boundary film area, the viscosity and density of the film are varied across the film thickness due to the film-contact interactions, and their effective values are used in modelling which depends on the boundary film thickness. In the fluid film area, the film does not slip at either of the contact surfaces.
Analiza zaprezentowana w pracy dotyczy zagadnienia mikro-kontaktu w strefie jednoczesnego występowania brzegowego i hydrodynamicznego filmu płynu z możliwością poślizgu w strefie brzegowej na górnej powierzchni kontaktu. Rozważany kontakt jest jednowymiarowy i odnosi się do dwóch równoległych płaskich powierzchni, z których jedna jest sztywna i szorstka w przekroju prostopadłym, a druga tak samo sztywna lecz idealnie gładka. W obszarze wyjścia ze strefy kontaktu pojawia się brzegowy film płynu, natomiast w strefie wejścia konwencjonalny film hydrodynamiczny. W strefie brzegowej film ulega poślizgowi na górnej powierzchni wskutek ograniczonej zdolności przenoszenia naprężeń stycznych pomiędzy płynem a ścianką, natomiast na powierzchni dolnej poślizg nie występuje. W strefie brzegowej filmu jego lepkość i gęstość zmienia się wzdłuż grubości wskutek interakcji płynu z powierzchnią. Efektywne wartości użyte w modelowaniu kontaktu zależą od grubości filmu brzegowego. W regularnej strefie film nie ulega poślizgowi na żadnej z omawianych powierzchni.

The aim of the study was to present a method for assessing the condition of cell culture by measuring the impedance of cells cultured in the presence of nickel. For this purpose, an impedance measurement technique using nickel comb capacitors was used. The capacitor electrodes were made using a thin film magnetron sputtering. In the experimental part, the culture of cells of mouse fibroblasts on the prepared substrate was performed. The cell culture lasted 43 hours and showed that the presented technique allows it to be used to analyze the effect of nickel on cells.
Celem pracy było przedstawienie metody oceny stanu hodowli komórkowej poprzez pomiar impedancji komórek hodowanych w obecności niklu. W tym celu zastosowano technikę pomiaru impedancji z wykorzystaniem niklowych kondensatorów grzebieniowych. Cienkowarstwowe elektrody kondensatora wykonano metodą rozpylania magnetronowego. W części eksperymentalnej przeprowadzono hodowlę komórek mysich fibroblastów na przygotowanym podłożu. Hodowla komórkowa trwała 43 godziny i wykazała, że przedstawiona technika mogłaby być zastosowana do analizy wpływu niklu na komórki.

The surface roughness and residual stress behavior in two types of SiNx/SiO2 dielectric quarter-wave stacks was investigated experimentally. A reactive pulsed magnetron sputtering system was used to prepare the SiNx/SiO2 multilayer thin films. The results show that SiNx/SiO2 quarter-wave stack with a buffer layer of MgF2 thin film can reduce the residual stress. The effect of aging on the residual stress in two quarter-wave stacks was also studied. We found that the residual stresses in both SiNx/SiO2 multilayer coatings are changed from a compressive state to a tensile stress state with increasing the aging time. The root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of MgF2/(SiNx/SiO2)22 and (SiNx/SiO2)22 quarter-wave stacks are 2.23 ± 0.22 nm and 2.08 ± 0.20 nm, respectively.

In this paper CdO thin film has been prepared by sol-gel dip-coating method on glass substrate. The film was characterized by X-Ray diffraction, UV-Visible spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy for structural and optical properties of CdO thin film. The XRD pattern shows that film is polycrystalline in nature and has a cubical structure with orientation along (111) plane. The diffuse reflectance spectra for the film is studied in wavelength range 400-800 nm. The direct energy band gap of 2.50 eV is found for the film using modified Kubelka-Munk function. Photoluminescence spectra shows one sharp peak at 540 nm due to oxygen vacancy of cadmium oxide.

An indomethacin topical spray was prepared using lecithin and a cholesterol derivative as a phospholipid complex in a film. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as a film-forming agent. Drug penetration through keratinocytes was evaluated as well as cytotoxicity to the keratinocytes and fibroblast cells. The results reveal that the PVP concentration provided fine droplets under a microscope with a low contact angle (12.07°-22.53°). Incorporating PVP in the formulation reduced the hydrodynamic radius or size by 20 times. The SEM and TEM results showed smoother surfaces of the thin film for larger quantities of the PVP film-forming agent in the formulations. It also gave the highest drug penetration when the PVP was 0.5%. However, the film-forming agent can also act as a control release barrier. The percent viabilities of the human keratinocytes and fibroblasts were higher in the indomethacin spray phospholipid complex thin film formulation than the pure drug.

This research deals with the study of the structural and optical properties of CuO and Cd doped CuO nano films in thickness 100nm were deposited on a glass substrate using sol-gel spin coating technique. XRD results indicated that the films are polycrystalline and have monoclinic structure with a preferred orientation along ((111).) ̅ and the grain size increase with increasing concentration Cd. Data of AFM indicate that the surface of films is smooth. From SEM image observed the particles are smallest an even particle distribution on a smooth surface. The optical transition in the CuO and (Cd– doped CuO) thin films are observed to be allowed direct transition. The value of the optical energy gap decreases with increasing of (Cd) for all samples.

Opis:
Thin films of zinc oxide doped with aluminium were obtained by using the magnetron sputtering technique on glass substrates. The changes in magnetron power influence the structural, optical and electrical properties of the ZnO:Al layers. The deposited films are characterized by very good homogeneity and high optical transmission. Thicker films with larger agglomerates on the surface exhibit lower resistivity with the remaining good transparency.

Opis:
The optical and structure properties of Cadmium oxide (CdO) thin film prepared by electrochemical deposition method at different times (15, 30 and 60) min were investigated in this paper. Results of optical Transmission, absorption, reflection spectra, optical conductance, refractive index, extension coefficient, real and imaginary dielectric constants studies are reported. The optical transmittance of the CdO thin film which formed at room temperature was 20% at wavelength ≈350 nm then increases to 60% at wavelength ≈1100 nm for thin film of CdO. The band-gap was also calculated from the equation relating absorption coefficient with the wavelength. The energy band gap changes from 2.3eV (Bulk CdO) to 2.45eV (CdO thin film). The plotted graphs show the optical characteristics of the film which varied with the wavelength and the photon energy. The optical conductance and band-gap indicated that the film is transmitting within the visible range. The dielectric constant and optical conductance of the film initially decreases slowly with increase in photon energy. The extinction coefficient and refractive index of the films also evaluated, which affected with the change in transmittance. The structure of synthesised CdO thin film was analyzed by X-ray diffraction XRD which revealed that the CdO thin film are polycrystalline and have several peaks of cubic face structure. The crystallite size, dislocation density, microstrain and number of dislocations of the thin film were calculated and listed.

In this work the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and the pulsed electron beam deposition (PED) techniques were used for fabrication of Mo-Bi2O3, La1-xSrxCoO3, La1-xCaxCoO3 and Al-Mg thin films. An influence of ablation process basic parameters on the coatings structure and properties was discussed. Two types of laser ablation systems were applied: one equipped with a KrF excimer and second with a Q-switched Nd:YAG. Films were deposited on Si and MgO substrates. Scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) as well as X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used for structural analysis. Investigations focused on structure and chemical composition showed that smooth and dense thin films with nanocrystalline structure, preserving the composition of the bulk target, could be obtained by the both PLD and PED techniques. Research study showed that by a proper selection of PLD and PED process parameters it was possible to deposit films with significantly decreased amount and size of undesirably nanoparticulates.
Osadzanie laserem impulsowym (PLD) oraz osadzanie impulsową wiązka elektronową (PED) wykorzystane zostało do wytwarzania cienkich filmów typu: Mo-Bi2O3, La1-xSrxCoO3, La1-xCaxCoO3 and Al-Mg oraz Al-Mg. Dyskutowano wpływ podstawowych parametrów procesu ablacji na strukturę i właściwości uzyskiwanych powłok. Wykorzystane zostały dwa typy systemów do ablacji; jeden z ekscymerowym laserem KrF i drugi na bazie lasera Nd:YAG z modulatorem dobroci (Q-Switch). Filmy osadzano na podłożu Si i MgO. Skaningowa (SEM) i transmisyjna (TEM) mikroskopia elektronowa, mikroskopia sił atomowych (AFM), oraz dyfrakcja rentgenowska (XRD) wykorzystana została do analizy strukturalnej. Badania skoncentrowane na strukturze i składzie chemicznym wykazały jednorodną i zwartą budowę cienkich nanokrystalicznych filmów uzyskanych metodami PLD i PED utrzymujących skład odparowywanych tarcz. Wykazano doświadczalnie, że odpowiednie dobranie parametrów procesu pozwala otrzymywać filmy o istotnym zminimalizowaniu ilości i wymiarów niekorzystnych nanocząstek w powłoce.

Polycrystalline manganese ditelluride (MnTe₂) thin films are synthesized on commercial glass substrates by chemical bath deposition technique at different pH values (pH = 9, 10, 11 and 12). The effect of pH on the structural and optical properties of chemically deposited MnTe₂ thin films have been investigated in this study. The structure and optical properties of the films are characterized by X-ray diffraction and optical absorption spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction results suggest that the films are polycrystalline with a mixture of dominant cubic MnTe₂ phase and few traces of orthorhombic MnTeO₃ and MnTe₂O₅ phases. The optical band gap of the films increases approximately from 1.66 eV to 2.62 eV with increasing pH. Moreover, optical parameters of the films such as refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary dielectric constants are investigated using absorption and transmittance spectra taken from the UV-vis spectrophotometer. At 600 nm wavelength, refractive index and extinction coefficient values vary in the range of 1.39-1.55 and 0.17-0.23, respectively. An increase in optical band gap could be attributed to the quantum confinement effect.

Indium sulfide (β-In₂S₃) thin films are synthesized by chemical bath deposition method using three different complexing agent volumes, triethanolamine (TEA) (0.30, 0.45, and 0.60 ml). The effect of complexing agent on the structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of chemically deposited indium sulfide (β-In₂S₃) thin films have been investigated in this work. The characterization of the present films is carried out using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy and electrical measurements. The structure of the films is polycrystalline with a cubic phase of β-In₂S₃. Firstly, the band gap of the film decreases from 3.74 eV to 3.15 eV by adding 0.30 ml TEA. Then, it increases to 3.79 eV with increasing TEA. Nevertheless, previously, the refractive index of the films increases from 2.13 to 2.67 for the 0.30 mL TEA and then it decreases to the value of 2.11 with increasing TEA. Extinction coefficient, real and dielectric constant of the films are calculated using the absorption and transmittance spectra. Firstly, the electrical resistivity of the films decreases from 3.46×10⁸ Ω cm to 1.33×10⁷ Ω cm by adding 0.30 ml TEA. Then, it increases to the value of 2.16×10⁹ Ω cm with increasing TEA. Eventually, the more conductive film with worm-like morphology detected from the scanning electron microscopy is synthesized using 0.30 ml TEA. These results show that complexing agent has an important effect on the structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of the deposited films.

This work presents a theoretical study for the distribution of nanocomposite structure of plasmonic thin-film solar cells through the absorber layers. It can be reduced the material consumption and the cost of solar cell. Adding nanometallic fillers in the absorber layer has been improved optical, electrical characteristics and efficiency of traditional thin film solar cells (ITO /CdS/PbS/Al and SnO2/CdS/CdTe/Cu) models that using sub micro absorber layer. Also, this paper explains analysis of J-V, P-V and external quantum efficiency characteristics for nanocomposites thin film solar cell performance. Also, this paper presents the effect of increasing the concentration of nanofillers on the absorption, energy band gap and electron-hole generation rate of absorber layers and the effect of volume fraction on the energy conversion efficiency, fill factor, space charge region of the nanocomposites solar cells.

Opis:
Zns thin films are obtained by flash evaporation method onto preheated glass substrates. The transmittance analysis allowed the determination of refractive index and thickness using envelope method. It was found that the refractive dispersion data obeyed the single oscillator model. The calculated value of the refractive index (n0 ) was found to be equal to 2.27, which is in a good agreement with the value obtained from Cauchy’s fitting. Also the value of the optical energy gap, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant and optical conductivity have been measured.

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Capacitance-Voltage measurements are used to characterize the chemical bonding configuration and crystallographic orientations for SiOxNy thin films grown by glass assisted CO2 laser. FTIR spectra detected the Si-O and Si-N strongest absorption bands are close to each other at wave number in the range (700-1000 cm-1) depending on silicon substrates, and Si-O stretching bond at wave number around (~1088.285 cm-1) with a FWHM of 73.863 cm-1 for the two samples, the presences of hydrogen impurities like Si-H and N-H in the films were also identified and calculated. From C-V measurement film thickness were calculated and found to be 19.2 and 17.2 nm for SiOxNy/Si(111) and SiOxNy/Si(100) respectively. From the flat band voltage of -5.4 and -1.3 measured the two samples, their interface trap densities were found to be 1.4 × 1013 and 1.57 × 1013 ev-1•cm-2 respectively.

Opis:
Optical transmittance spectra of CdS thin films were recorded from UV-Visible spectrophotometer in the range 380-900 nm. The films were prepared by chemical spray pyrolysis by spraying an aqueous solution of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) and thiourea [(NH2)2CS] with de-ionized water. UV-Visible spectrophotometer used to recording the transmittance spectra in the range of 380-900 nm. The transmittance decreased with the increasing of CdS film thickness, while the reflectance increases. The energy gap decreased with the increasing of film thickness, while Urbach energy increased. Dispersion parameters such as; Ed, Eo, ε∞, n(0), So, λo, M-1, and M-3 are studied.

TiO2 is one of the most widely used metal oxide semiconductors in the field of photocatalysis for the self-cleaning purpose to withdraw pollutants. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is recommended as a stabilizer and booster during preparation of water-soluble TiO2. Preparation of SnO2/TiO2 thin film deposition on the surface of ceramic tile was carried out by the sol-gel spin coating method by adding different amount of PEG (0g, 0.2g, 0.4g, 0.6g, 0.8g) during the preparation of the sol precursor. The effects of PEG content and the annealing temperature on the phase composition, crystallite size and the hydrophilic properties of SnO2/TiO2 films were studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra revealed different phases existed when the films were annealed at different annealing temperatures of 350°C, 550°C and 750°C with 0.4 g of PEG addition. The crystallite sizes of the films were measured using Scherrer equation. It shows crystallite size was dependent on crystal structure existed in the films. The films with mixed phases of brookite and rutile shows the smallest crystallite size. In order to measure the hydrophilicity properties of films, the water contact angles for each film with different content of PEG were measured. It can be observed that the water contact angle decreased with the increasing of the content of PEG. It shows the superhydrophilicity properties for the films with the 0.8 g of PEG annealed at 750°C. This demonstrates that the annealed temperature and the addition of PEG affect the phase composition and the hydrophilicity properties of the films.

Microstructures are an important link between materials processing and performance, and microstructure control is essential for any materials processing route where the microstructure plays a major role in determining the properties. In this work, silverdoped titanium dioxide (Ag/TiO2) thin film was prepared by the sol-gel method through the hydrolysis of titanium tetra-isopropoxide and silver nitrate solution. The sol was spin coated on ITO glass substrate to get uniform film followed by annealing process for 2 hours. The obtained films were annealed at different annealing temperatures in the range of 300°C-600°C in order to observe the effect on crystalline state, microstructures and optical properties of Ag/TiO2 thin film. The thin films were characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. It is clearly seen, when the annealing temperature increases to 500°C, a peak at 2θ = 25.30° can be seen which refers to the structure of TiO2 tetragonal anatase. The structure of Ag/TiO2 thin film become denser, linked together, porous and uniformly distributed on the surface and displays the highest cut-off wavelength value which is 396 nm with the lowest band gap value, which is 3.10 eV.

In this paper, the structure of a high-efficiency solar cell is presented by using a combination of quantum dots of germanium arrays and silicon nanowires on a thin film silicon layer. Due to the low absorption coefficient of silicon, this type of solar cell does not have high efficiency. According to the capability of the quantum structure in absorbing the incident photons and the generation of electron-hole pairs, this structure is proposed. Moreover, nanowires as an appropriate suggestion are applied in our work aiming to improve light scattering and optical photon absorption for the generation of carriers. Both of the electrical and optical characteristics of the solar cell are calculated by using a finite-difference time-domain method. Owing to the change of the nanowire length and increasing the number of quantum dot in our work, maximum power absorption is achieved. The achieved results provide a considerable improvement in efficiency and short-circuit current density. The efficiency is improved up to 17.5% and the short-circuit current density in the active layer of thickness 1170 nm has been provided to be 42.6 mA/cm2. The open circuit voltage for this cell is calculated to be 0.47 V. The achieved results provide a considerable improvement in efficiency and short-circuit current density in comparison with previously published method.

The article describes the results of a research on the surface morphology and optical properties of Al₂O₃, ZnO, and TiO₂ thin films deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for applications in silicon solar cells. The surface topography and elemental composition were characterised using a scanning electron microscope, and thickness was determined using an optical reflectometer. The samples were structurally examined using a Raman spectrometer. The structural variant was identified: for Al₂O₃ it is sapphire, for TiO₂ it is anatase, and for ZnO it is wurtzite. Possibilities of minimising light reflection using single and double thin film systems below 5% were presented. For the first time, the effectiveness of these thin films on the current-voltage characteristics and electrical parameters of manufactured silicon solar cells was examined and compared. The solar cell with the highest efficiency of converting solar radiation into electricity was obtained for Al₂O₃/TiO₂ and the efficiency of such a photovoltaic device was 18.74%.

GZO/IZO semiconductor thin films were prepared on the ITO substrate via sol-gel spin coating method for using in the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For this purpose, GZO and IZO thin films were optimized by the percentage of doping gallium and indium in zinc oxide and were studied their electrical, optical and structural properties. After that, the layers with the best performance were selected for use in the DSSCs. The concentration of all solutions for spin coating processes was 0.1 M and zinc oxide has been doped with gallium and indium, with different doping percentages (0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 volume percentage). So, by studying the properties of the fabricated thin films, it was found the films with 0.5%GZO and 0.5%IZO have the best performance and hence, the optimized dual-layer (0.5% GZO/0.5% IZO (GIZO)) were prepared and studied their electrical and optical properties. The synthesized optimized dual-layer film was successfully used as the working electrode for dye-sensitized solar cells. The sample with 0.5%IZO shows the 9.1 mA/cm2 short-circuit current density, 0.52 V open circuit voltage, 63% fill factor and 2.98% efficiency.

Sodium alginate (TiO2) sand composites were prepared by solution casting. Purified sand was added in the composite films to increase electrical conductivity. Electrical properties such as conductivity, capacitance, dielectric constant, and loss tangent of the composites were investigated. The current voltage characteristics for all the composites showed ohmic behavior. All the electrical properties have been found to improve with the incorporation of sand (SiO2) but 6 % sand containing composite exhibits the best electrical properties. The mechanical properties tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (Eb) and Young modulus for 6 % sand containing composite film are found to be 4.445 MPa, 9.76 %, and 72.8 MPa respectively. The experimental results reveal that the blended films exhibit higher stability and improved mechanical properties of both tensile strength and elongation at break in dry state. Water absorption properties of the composites are found to decrease with the increase of sand content. Lowest water uptake properties and highest stability were demonstrated by 6 % sand containing sample. Electrically conductive composite films have useful applications for solar cells and optoelectronics. Thus, this study is very much expected to aid in the design and selection of proper composite for the potential application of solar cell and optoelectronics.

Attempts were made to isolate 1,2-epoxybutane-3-ol and 2,3-epoxybutane-1-ol from post-reaction mixtures left after the epoxidation of 1-butene-3-ol and 2-butene-1-ol with hydrogen peroxide by thin film distillation. From the raw mixture containing about 8.3 wt% of the epoxide at the first stage the concentration of epoxide is increased to 32 wt%. At the second stage of distillation the epoxide fraction is concentrated to about 76 wt%. After the third stage of thin film distillation the epoxide fraction of 99.6% purity can be obtained. The concentration of this fraction by azeotropic distillation with n-propanol as an azeotropic agent permits obtaining epoxide of 99.6 wt% purity.

Opis:
The influence of the modes of laser treatment on the structural-phase state and electrical properties of thin films and epitaxial layers In4Se3, In4Te3, as well as on the thin-film structures with Schottky barrier of type Au - In4Te3 (In4Se3) are investigated. Thin films In4Se3, In4Te3 received by pulsed laser deposition of stoichiometric homogeneous crystalline materials on a dielectric substrate. The epitaxial layers of In4Se3, In4Te3 were obtained by liquid phase epitaxy. Metal contacts are created by thermal spraying of the respective metals in a vacuum p 10-6 ÷ 10-7 Torr. For the correction of electrophysical characteristics of the studied structures the pulse laser irradiation (PLI) with 1,06 m, 1 ÷ 4 ms was used. The surface morphology of the films on various stages of formation of the structures was investigated by SEM and electron diffraction, and the phase composition was monitored by method X - ray spectral electron probe microanalysis. Study of IV characteristics of film contacts Me - In4Te3 (In4Se3) allowed further identify the phase transformation and the basic mechanisms of charge transport in barrier structures after PLI. Investigation of the spectral photosensitivity of film structures showed that under optimum conditions the laser correction can be obtained the shift of the spectral characteristics from 1,7÷1,8 microns to longer wavelengths. The investigated barrier structures may be promising for use as a photodetector for fiber optic communication lines.

This paper presents a procedure for identifying wave forms and excitation frequencies of some forces applied on a given complex fluid-structure coupled system by using only its vibro-acoustic response. The considered concept is called the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) which is based on the Blind Source Separation (BSS). In this work, the ICA method is exploited in order to determine the excitation force applied to a thin-film laminated double glazing system enclosing a thin fluid cavity and limited by an elastic joint. The dynamic response of the studied fluid-structure coupled system is determined by finite element discretization and minimization of the homogenized energy functional of the coupled problem. This response will serve as the input for the ICA algorithm in order to extract the applied excitation.

Opis:
We examine nonlinear optical effects in the active medium of the thin-film quasiwaveguide amplifier-oscillator with injection of the external signal. The injection locking has been obtained in the case when both the frequency and the direction of propagation of the injected signal differ from those for a free-running thin-film laser which offers a possibility for the frequency and directional switching of the output of the thin-film laser. The effects of four wave mixing and phase conjugation have been discussed in the active medium of the thin-film laser when additional mirrors forming an external resonator have been used.

Opis:
Ice formed on radome surfaces causes communication disruption due to radio-frequency interference (RFI), which reveals the importance of de-icing systems for radomes. As a radome de-icing application, in this work, carbon nanotube (CNT) thin films were fabricated using a spray-coating method, and influence of process parameters on RF transmittance and electrothermal propertieswas investigated. With the increase of spraying time, sheet resistance of the fabricated film decreases, which results in a decrease of the RF transmittance and improvement of the heating performance. Also, the de-icing capability of the fabricated CNT film was evaluated at –20°C, and efficient removal of ice under cold conditions was demonstrated.

In this study a-C:H (hydrogenated amorphous carbon) thin films were deposited on the 7075 Al alloy without an interlayer using a DC CVD (direct current chemical vapor deposition) method with varied negative substrate bias in order to improve the hardness and Young´s modulus. The highest values of films hardness and Young´s modulus were 25.6±3.5 GPa and 140.3±4.6 GPa, respectively. The measured results show a promising potential of the a-C:H coated 7075 Al alloy for low load (up to 10 N) applications.

The LiMn2O4 films for Li secondary batteries have been prepared by a RF magnetron sputtering method. The LiMn2O4 powder was used as a target material. The deposition rate, XRD, and surface morphology were investigated as a function of substrate temperature (Tsub). It was found that the deposition rate had a peak at around the of 200 °C. This research was also designed for preventing the target material being oxidized during the reactive sputtering process. A quartz tube was inserted between shutter and target. It seems that the quartz tube is effective to prevent oxidation of target material.

This study attempted to fabricate heating fabrics using thin-film solar cells. A lightweight and flexible thin-film solar cell was used as the power supply, and fabric samples made of carbon fiber heating lines were used as heating elements. Single-factor experiments of three factors (solar cell voltage, heating time, and carbon fiber heating line arrangement) were conducted, and their influence on the heating effect was analysed. Orthogonal experiments and variance tests were used to determine the influence of the three factors and the optimal heating process. All influential factors were shown to be statistically significant. This kind of heating fabric can be used in warm clothing or for heated clothing.

Indium gallium zinc oxide (In–Ga–Zn–O) thin films, which are transparent conductive films for liquid crystals and electroluminescent displays, were fabricated via singlestep sputter deposition using one target containing different proportions of indium oxide, gallium oxide, and zinc oxide powders. Experimental results suggest that the In–Ga–Zn–O thin films can be prepared using the method of single-step radio frequency (RF) sputter deposition, applying a powder target containing indium oxide, gallium oxide, and zinc oxide. The In–Ga–Zn–O thin films were prepared on Si substrates, and the deposition rate depended on the target composition. In these plasma processes, electron density and temperature were essentially independent of target composition. The prepared films were very smooth with a root-mean-square roughness of less than 10 nm. The crystallinity of the ZnO peak was observed in all the films; whereas the In and Ga peaks were not observed in the films prepared. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the films also revealed that the elemental concentration ratio of In–Ga–Zn–O thin films could be prepared using one target, and that can be easily controlled by ratios in the In2O3/Ga2O3/ZnO composition in the powder target. The transmittances were > 75% at 800 nm for all the target mixtures, and increased with increasing In2O3 in the powder target.

The windshield defrost system, in general, is a vehicle safety feature. Thus, its restricted by variety of directives. However, the OMEs’ benchmark targets could be even more demanding as the deicing process is in addition also part of passengers comfort. From vehicle design point of view the wind-shield defrost system is typically connected to HVAC unit (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning). In the technical solution the windshield is heated via hot air convection. Nevertheless, other methods are becoming more and more popular, like directly heated glass by hot wire ohmic heating (heated glasses). The defrost CFD model should predict the ice layer thickness in time and space and in environmental conditions defined according to appropriate directives and technical solution. The accurate and fast modelling technique is essential part of a vehicle development, especially nowadays, where the optimization techniques area widely used and requires hundreds of simulations runs. Modelling requests are even increasing with modern pure electric vehicles (EVs), were the thermal and energy management is more demanding compared to the classical internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The aim of the work is to verify possibility to model the ice layer thickness with simplified approach, which could be beneficial from computational time burden.

Erbium oxide (Er₂O₃) coating is one of the promising methods to restrict tritium permeation and the magneto hydrodynamic pressure drop for advanced breeding blanket systems. Er₂O₃ coating layer on large interior surface area of metal pipe is deposited by using metal organic chemical vapor deposition process. In this work, the influence of Cu²⁺ ion irradiation on microstructure of Er₂O₃ coating layer on stainless steel 316 (SUS 316) substrate by metal organic chemical vapor deposition methods was investigated using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy observation and X-ray diffraction analysis. Microstructure observation of Er₂O₃ coating was carried out after 0.00-1.50 dpa Cu²⁺ ion irradiation at 298 K and 773 K. Scanning electron microscopy observation of the surface area on Er₂O₃ thin film revealed the crack generation on surface after Cu²⁺ ion irradiation. X-ray diffraction peaks were identified in Er₂O₃ after Cu²⁺ ion irradiation transmission electron microscopy observations, the formation of interlayer between Er₂O₃ coating and SUS substrate was confirmed. According to transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, the interlayer includes Fe and Cr.

Opis:
Noise studies of planar thin-film Ni-P resistors made in/on Printed Circuit Boards, both covered with two different types of cladding or uncladded have been described. The resistors have been made of the resistive-conductive-material (Ohmega-Ply©) of 100 Ώ/sq. Noise of the selected pairs of samples has been measured in the DC resistance bridge with a transformer as the first stage in a signal path. 1/f noise caused by resistance fluctuations has been found to be the main noise component. Parameters describing noise properties of the resistors have been calculated and then compared with the parameters of other previously studied thin- and thick-film resistive materials.

The paper investigates the nanoindentation process with different rates in the Cu (001) of FCC system. The indentation process was done using molecular dynamics simulation based on the embedded atom method theory and Morse potential. Simulation process of indentation used a rigid spherical indenter with the diamond structure. To structure characterization we applied the adaptive common neighbour and the dislocation extraction analysis. It was found that the range of the linear change of the indentation force depends on the rate of response of the system. The initial range of the linear dependence of stress evolution also depends on the rate of indentation. Moreover, the average total normal stress in the system is only compressive. After linear changes, we observe oscillating changes in stress evolution. During indentation, for the range of linear changes of stress, dislocations aggregated only around the indenter surface. The creation of dislocations is directly connected with the structural changes. The structure analysis revealed the formation of HCP and BCC structure in the Cu (001) of FCC systems and a correlation with the creation of dislocations.

Opis:
An alternative polarization phase-shifting technique is proposed to determine the thickness of transparent thin-films. In this study, the cyclic interferometric configuration is chosen to maintain the stability of the operation against external vibrations. The incident light is simply split by a non-polarizing beam splitter cube to generate test and reference beams, which are subsequently polarized by a polarizing beam splitter. Both linearly polarized beams are orthogonal and counter-propagating within the interferometer. A wave plate is inserted into the common paths to introduce an intrinsic phase difference between the orthogonal polarized beams. A transparent thin-film sample, placed in one of the beam tracks, modifies the output signal in terms of the phase retardation in comparison with the reference beam. The proposed phase-shifting technique uses a moving mirror with a set of “fixed” polarizing elements, namely, a quarter-wave retarder and a polarizer, to facilitate phase extraction without rotating any polarizing devices. The measured thicknesses are compared with the measurements of the same films acquired using standard equipment such as the field-emission scanning electron microscope and spectroscopic ellipsometer. Experimental results with the corresponding measured values are in good agreement with commercial measurements. The system can be reliably utilized for non-destructive thickness measurements of transparent thin-films.

Artykuł przedstawia proces wytwarzania cienkich warstw organicznych metodą powlekania wirowego (spin-coatingu). Analizowany w pracy związek organiczny był nakładany na podłoża szklane. Podczas procesu modyfikowano parametry, takie jak: prędkość wirowania, czas wirowania, stężenie procentowe związku, rodzaj zastosowanego rozpuszczalnika oraz objętość próbki. Uzyskane warstwy organiczne poddano badaniom fizykochemicznym. Pomiar grubości wykonano za pomocą profilometru optycznego, a następnie podjęto próbę weryfikacji otrzymanego wyniku na profilometrze mechanicznym. W kolejnym kroku zmierzona została charakterystyka transmitancji na spektrofotometrze. Proces miał na celu opracowanie technologii otrzymywania warstwy organicznej o grubości 100-120 nm na podłożu szklanym oraz przeprowadzenie wstępnej analizy właściwości optycznych otrzymanych próbek.
The article presents results of investigation of organic film for photovoltaic applications. The organic material was applied in spin coating method. In this process the time of spin coating,the rotation speed and amount of organics substance were varied. The investigated organic layers were measured by optics and mechanic profilometers and spectrophotometer. In all of process we tried to obtain 100-120 nm of thickness of organics thin-film.

In this work the physicochemical and biological properties of nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films were investigated. Thin films were prepared by magnetron sputtering method. Their properties were examined by X-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, optical transmission method and optical profiler. Moreover, surface wettability and scratch resistance were determined. It was found that as-deposited coatings were nanocrystalline and had TiO2-anatase structure, built from crystallites in size of 24 nm. The surface of the films was homogenous, composed of closely packed grains and hydrophilic. Due to nanocrystalline structure thin films exhibited good scratch resistance. The results were correlated to the biological activity (in vitro) of thin films. Morphological changes of mouse fibroblasts (L929 cell line) after contact with the surface of TiO2 films were evaluated with the use of a contrast-phase microscope, while their viability was tested by MTT colorimetric assay. The viability of cell line upon contact with the surface of nanocrystalline TiO2 film was comparable to the control sample. L929 cells had homogenous cytoplasm and were forming a confluent monofilm, while lysis and inhibition of cell growth was not observed. Moreover, the viability in contact with surface of examined films was high. This confirms non-cytotoxic effect of TiO2 film surface on mouse fibroblasts.

Thin film coated on the flat surface of side-polished fibers can generate a lossy mode resonance (LMR) effect. A gallium-doped zinc oxide (GZO) thin film was prepared by an electron-beam evaporation with the ion assisted deposition method. The residual thickness of the side-polished fiber was 76.5 μm, and GZO film thickness of 69 nm was deposited on the flat surface of the side-polished fiber to fabricate LMR-based fiber sensors. The variation in the optical spectrum of LMR-based fiber sensors was measured by different refractive index saline solutions. The LMR wavelength shift is caused by the refractive index change, which is nearly proportional to the salinity. The corresponding sensitivity of the proposed fiber-optic sensor was 3059 nm/RIU (refractive index unit) for the refractive index range of 1.333 to 1.398. To evaluate the sensitivity of LMR salinity sensors, the saline solution salinities of 3.6%, 7.3%, 10.9%, 14.6%, 18.2% and 21.9% were measured in this work. The experimental result shows that the sensitivity of the proposed salinity sensor is 9.94 nm/%.

Obecne technologie i materiały umożliwiają różne sposoby poziomego oznakowania dróg. Oznakowanie cienkowarstwowe jest stosunkowo tanie, ale mniej trwałe, jednak łatwo je regenerować. Oznakowanie grubowarstwowe jest droższe, ale o wiele bardziej trwałe, jednak trudne do regeneracji. Nowe technologie, jak na przykład spray-plast, pozwalają na skuteczną regenerację oznakowania grubowarstwowego. Przemysł oferuje różnorodny sprzęt do oznakowania poziomego i jego regeneracji.
Current technologies and materials allow for different ways of road marking. Thin-film road marking is relatively cheap but less durable, however it is easy to regenerate. Thick-film road marking is more expensive but much more durable, however it is difficult to regenerate. New technologies, such as spray-plast, allow the effective regeneration of thick-film marking and its renovation.

We have demonstrated the novel CdTe X-ray imaging device that consists of a Schottky CdTe diode and a Vertical Thin Film Field Emitter Array (VTF-FEA). The Schottky CdTe diode was fabricated by deposied indium (In) thin film on a Cl-doped p-type (p-type) CdTe substrate and Sb2S3 on the opposite side of the CdTe substrate. VTF-FEA was fabricated by ion induced bending (IIB) and etch-back method. The signal current was successfully detected by the recombination of the stored on the surface holes with the emitted electrons from FEA, and it was clarified that it depended on the X-ray intensity. And the imaging device succeeded in obtaining the Cu plate transmission image.

Opis:
The modified surface layers of the Cd1-xМnxTe crystals were obtained by the laser recrystallization of the crystal surface with the use of millisecond and nanosecond impulse ruby lasers. The determination and diagnostics of the layer structural state were performed by the study of the electron channeling patterns in the SEM. The AFM studies showed that mechanically stable contact regions within the CdTe crystal –Cu film system can be formed, depending on the laser energy density and beam defocusing. On the base of the ellipsometric studies, it was found that while irradiating the Cd1-xМnxTe crystal surface, the refractive index of the oxide film on the modified surface changes depending on the laser beam energy density, which can be interpreted as the formation of the oxides of the different chemical composition.
Zmodyfikowane warstwy wierzchnie kryształów Cd1-xМnxTezostały uzyskane metodą laserowej rekrystalizacji powierzchni kryształu przy wykorzystaniu impulsów milisekundowychi nanosekundowychlaserów rubinowych. Określenie i diagnostyka strukturalnej postaci powierzchni zostały wykonane metodą badania struktury kanałów elektronu SEM. Badania AFM wykazały,że mogą zostać wytworzoneobszary mechanicznie stabilnego obszaru kontaktowego kryształ CdTe –powłoka Cu,w zależności od skupienia energii laserowejoraz zdekoncentrowania wiązki. Na podstawie pomiarów elipsometrycznychodkryto,że podczas napromieniowywania powierzchni kryształu Cd1-xМnxTe, wskaźnik refrakcyjny powłoki tlenku na powierzchni zmodyfikowanej ulega zmianie w zależności od skupienia energii wiązki laserowej, co może być interpretowane,jako powstawanie tlenków o różnym składzie chemicznym.

Opis:
The thin metal film subjected to the ultra-short laser pulse is analyzed. Heat transfer processes occurring in the domain considered are described by the dual-phase lag model in which the unknown is the heat flux, not, as usual, temperature. This approach is especially convenient in the case of Neumann boundary conditions, which are taken into account here. The mathematical model supplemented by initial conditions is solved using the explicit scheme of finite difference method. In the final part of the paper the examples of computations are shown and the conclusions are formulated.
