Opis:
This paper presents the use of infrared thermography in aviation. Each of the described applications has been proved experimentally and revealed the advantages and disadvantages of the thermography method. Thermography is a discipline of research that allows observation of many phenomena, e.g. simple temperature analysis, defectoscopic tests and actions of aerodynamic. Its use in aviation is multidirectional therefore; thermography is an attractive method for research. Thermal techniques seem simple; however require extensive knowledge of infrared radiation, the areas in which this technique is used, the influence of camera parameters on its capabilities and software knowledge applied depending on the purpose. This paper undertakes the verification of temperature analysis method, which is based on the tests of whole machine assembly and its parts during their operation - widely known as passive thermography. Another raised issue is defectoscopic study which aim is to detect structural defects by non-destructive testing (NDT) - active thermography. Several types of sandwich and composite materials were selected, and on the basis of the test results the limitations and possibilities of thermography in the field of active thermography were concluded. The last application considered in this study is the use of thermography for aerodynamic testing, i.e. verification transition point, laminar to turbulent layer on the aerodynamic profile.

Opis:
In the article the influence of selected factors occurring during thermal measurements on the uncertainty of thermovision temperature measurement is discussed. A situation in which the observed surface was close to the camera lens was measured (distance less than one meter). Based on the type B determination methodology described in the literature on the subject, a method of calculating the measurement extended uncertainty is proposed. A division of factors influencing the thermovision temperature measurement uncertainty into external factors and internal factors is also proposed. Factors associated with the conditions prevailing during the measurement, the geometry of the measurement system and the properties of the observed surface were considered external factors. Factors related to the calibration of the thermal imaging camera, the sensor matrix used and the properties of its measuring path were qualified as internal factors. The method of determining the value of the camera display at the highest and lowest value of a particular factor is discussed. The probability distribution for each of the external factors was determined. The measuring system constructed is presented. It is explained how the uncertainty shares and expanded uncertainty were determined in accordance with the method proposed.

Opis:
Testing of varistors using thermography was carried out in order to assess their protective properties against possible overvoltage phenomena in the form of high-level voltage surges. An advantage of the thermography technique is non-contact temperature measurement. It was proposed to assess the properties of varistors working in electronic devices as protective elements, on the basis of estimating temperature increments on varistor surfaces, registered by an infrared camera during surge resistance tests with standard voltage levels. To determine acceptable temperature increments on a tested varistor, preliminary testing was performed of P22Z1 (Littelfuse) and S07K14 (EPCOS) type varistors, working first at a constant load and presently during surge tests,. The thermographic test results were compared with measured varistor capacity values before and after tests. It was found that recording with thermography temperature increments greater than 6°C for both P22Z1 and S07K14 varistor types detects total or partial loss of varistor protective properties. The test results were confirmed by assessment of protective properties of varistors working in output circuits of low nominal voltage devices.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Fascia Manipulation® is one of the methods focusing on the deep fascia. The assumption is that fascial manipulation is carried out on precisely determined points – coordination centres (cc), and on a limited area so as the friction occurring during manipulation would cause a local rise in temperature due to the inflammatory reaction. Rise in temperature influences modification in consistency of elementary matter in the manipulated area, and by the same token causing a decrease in the negative effects of fascia densification which stems from accumulation of hyaluronic acid. The purpose of the research is to prove the thesis that fascial manipulation causes local rise in temperature due to inflammatory reaction. Materials and method. For the research, 25 individuals with densification in lower limb area were qualified. They were exposed to a single, 3-minute facial manipulation®. By means of a thermal-imaging camera, changes in the temperature of the body in the examined area were evaluated. The body’s temperature evaluation was carried out 8 times: before the treatment, 5 minutes after the treatment, and, next, 6, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 hours after the treatment. Results. The average surface temperature of the treated area before mobilization was 33.4°C. A statistically relevant increase in temperature was already observed 5 minutes after the treatment (increase of 0.5°C; p<0.001). However, the highest temperature was observed 24 hours after mobilization (increase of 2.4 °C). The difference between the first and 7 other measurements was statistically relevant (p<0.001). Conclusion. The statistically relevant increase in temperature under the influence of fascial manipulation® in the treatment area can confirm the occurrence of inflammatory reaction.

Opis:
Authors are proposing use of stereoscopic observation of thermograms in order to simplify their interpretation. Analysis of the quality of the stereoscopic model has been made on the images of industrial and habitable buildings. It has been found that model is clearly visible when it is seen in a low scale. Enlargement of the image resulted in decreasing accuracy of observations. Accuracy of spatial placement of objects' elements recorded on the stereograph. In order to acquire geometri-cally accurate information about the object it is necessary to make a photographical stereopair, but thermographical stereograph is very useful in the interpretation of temperature distribution.

This is a study of the possibilities of a qualitative evaluation of protective materials with active thermography. It presents a simulation of a periodic excitation of a multilayer composite material. Tests were conducted with lock-in thermography on Kevlar® composite consisting of 16 layers of Kevlar® fabric reinforced with formaldehyde resin with implanted delamination defects. Lock-in thermography is a versatile tool for nondestructive evaluation. It is a fast, remote and nondestructive procedure. Hence, it was used to detect delaminations in the composite structure of materials used in the production of components designed for personal protection. This method directly contributes to an improvement in safety.

Opis:
We discuss limitations of the known methods of IR imaging in diagnostics of breast cancer. In conclusion we show that the known methods, based on simple observation of external temperature distribution, are not fully effective. Even advanced pattern recognition could not help in analysis of static images. May active dynamic thermography, known in non-destructive testing of materials, be of any help in breast cancer diagnostics? Analysis of thermal transients forced by external thermal excitation shows, even on simple models, that one may expect a visible improvement in resolution after such excitation. Applied models allow analysis of both static and active thermograms. Basing on the models one may recognise elements of the internal structure of a breast not visible in static pictures. This method, new in clinical practice, seems to be promising, but requires further studies.
