    Opis:
    This paper discusses the issues of cooperation and mutual assistance with regard to the theory of exchange as proposed by Marcel Mauss, Bronislaw Malinowski and Claude Lévi-Strauss. In this approach, exchange is a universal phenomenon of social life. Principles of reciprocity (do, ut des) and balance of services are viewed in the context of everyday life. The analysis presented is based on qualitative ethnographic research carried out in the Silesian Beskid at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The present-day role of the analysed forms of social activity, the rules governing their implementation, and the social consequences of their changes over time are discussed.

    Analizy zawarte w artykule dotyczą możliwości i barier sukcesu integracyjnego w edukacji uczniów z niepełnosprawnością. Opierają się na założeniu, że jest on dostępny dla każdej jednostki i w każdym środowisku szkolnym, chociaż stopień tej dostępności może się znacząco różnić w zależności od wielu czynników: biologiczno-medycznych, psycho-emocjonalnych, zaawansowania procesu edukacyjnego, środowiskowych wzorów kulturowych. Niezależnie jednak od nasilenia tych zmiennych różnicujących dostępność sukcesu integracyjnego, droga do jego osiągania prowadzi poprzez interakcje. Szczególne miejsce zajmują wśród nich takie, które oparte są na wzajemnych korzyściach różnej natury: fizycznych, ekonomicznych, ale przede wszystkim kulturowych, poznawczych, duchowych, psychicznych. Ogół tych wartości tworzy potencjał danej osoby, który we wzajemnych interakcjach zwiększa szanse osiągania sukcesu integracyjnego. Weryfikację tej tezy umożliwia konstruowanie projektów badawczych opartych na mikropoziomowej teorii wymiany, która dotychczas w pedagogice specjalnej była niemal zupełnie pomijana. Dyskurs zawarty w artykule wykazuje, że warto włączyć ją w zakres teorii socjologicznych wzbogacających teorię i badania empiryczne pedagogiki specjalnej.
    The analyses contained in this study concern the possibilities and the barriers to integratin on success in the education of students with disabilities. They are based on the assumption that it is available to any individual and in any school environment, although the degree of its availability may vary significantly depending on many factors: biological-medical, psycho-emotional, the advancement of the educational process, the environmental cultural patterns. However, regardless of the intensity of the variables which influence the availability of the integration success, the way to achieve it leads through the interactions. A special place among them is occupied by those which are based on the mutual benefits of a different nature: physical, economic, but above all cultural, cognitive, spiritual, psychological. All these values create a person's potential, which increases the chances of achieving the integration success in the mutual interactions. The verification of this thesis is possible thanks to the construction of the research projects based on the micro-level Theory of Exchange, which so far has been almost completely ignored in the special education. The discourse contained in the article shows that it is worth including in the scope of the sociological theories enriching the theory and the empirical research of the special education.

    One of the salient trends in the social sciences in recent years has been economics' colonialism of other social sciences. At the outset of the present article a widespread thesis considering economics to be the "queen" of all social sciences is presented and some epistemic reasons cited on its behalf critically evaluated. The bulk of the body of the paper is devoted to an in-depth analysis of two influential theories epitomising the aformentioned paradigm: George C. Homan' theory of social exchange was the precursor to most now current rational choice approaches. To an even grater extent, the tendency toward transferring concepts and laws of economics onto the various non-economic areas of social life has been from the very outset present in the theory of economic behaviour developed by the Nobel winner, Gary Becker. Both above-mentioned approaches are grounded in the notion of economic man, which prompts a more comprehensive examination of this concept of rational utility maximiser being postulated as the underlying foundation for not only economics but also for other social sciences. The upshot of that analysis is not encouraging; neither of the components to to the notion of homo economicus can withstand critical scrutiny. More broadly, the same refers to the entire idea of economics as purportedly core or root social science from which all others should be derived or at least borrow their concepts, propositions and approaches. In the light of our critical analysis, economic or economics imperialism should be discarded once for all.

    Opis:
    Carl Menger – as earlier Etienne de Condillac, Le Trosne, Adam Smith, David Ricardo, John S. Mill, Jean-Baptiste Say, William S. Jevons – has associated the notion of value with the human need. Unlike his predecessors, Menger has not accepted the notion of commodity utility as a measure of its value. In that way, Menger has challenged a thesis deeply rooted in the history of economic thought that the notion of value denotes the commodity attribute that makes each good capable to meet human need. In Menger’s value theory, the notion of value belongs the category of human judgment on the importance of good for human life and well being, i.e. for his need satisfaction. It has been shown that Menger’s approach to the commodity value let us introduce the concept of aequalitas valoris to the theory of commodity exchange and neither “value in use” nor “value in exchange” can be treated as categories of commodity value theory.
    Carl Menger – podobnie jak wcześniej Etienne de Condillac, Le Trosne, Adam Smith, David Ricardo, John S. Mill, Jean-Baptiste Say, William S. Jevons – łączył pojęcie wartości z potrzebą. W przeciwieństwie jednak do swoich poprzedników Menger nie uznał kategorii użyteczności rzeczy jako miary ich wartości. Zakwestionował tym samym pogląd głęboko zakorzeniony w historii myśli ekonomicznej, iż wartość jest własnością dobra, która sprawia, iż jest ono zdolne do zaspokojenia potrzeb człowieka. W systemie Carla Mengera wartość dobra należy do kategorii sądu o wadze potrzeby dla dobrobytu jednostki. W artykule pokazano, iż Mengerowskie ujęcie wartości pozwala wprowadzić pojęcie aequalitas valoris do teorii wymiany, a pojęć „wartość wymienna” oraz „wartość użytkowa” nie można traktować jako przynależnych do teorii wartości dóbr.

    The social, demographic and economic changes make intergenerational transfers in family gain in importance. An increase in the lifespan and divorce rates, a drop in fertility and a declining number of children in family, an increase in the participation of women in the labour force – all these changes affect the nature, form and volume of intergenerational transfers. The paper presents the theories of altruism and reciprocity (exchange) as two main models explaining intergenerational transfers in family. The papers also provides a review of literature on: forms of transfers, their relations to income, education and social links, as well as the consequences that divorces, the lifespan or the welfare state have for intergenerational transfers.
    Zmiany demograficzne, społeczne i gospodarcze sprawiają, że temat transferów międzypokoleniowych w ostatnich latach nabiera szczególnego znaczenia. Rosnąca długość życia, malejąca liczba dzieci w rodzinie, upowszechnienie rozwodów, wzrost aktywności zawodowej wśród kobiet i tym podobne – wszystko to sprawia, że transfery międzypokoleniowe w rodzinach w krajach wysoko rozwiniętych ulegają silnym przeobrażeniom. Artykuł prezentuje teorie altruizmu i wymiany – jako dwa podstawowe modele tłumaczące występowanie transferów międzypokoleniowych w rodzinach. Opierając się na literaturze, przeanalizowano formy transferów międzypokoleniowych, związki prawdopodobieństwa wystąpienia i wysokości transferów z dochodem rodziców i dzieci (wnuków) z siłą więzi oraz wykształceniem beneficjentów i darczyńców. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na konsekwencje, jakie dla transferów międzypokoleniowych mają rozwody, długość życia oraz państwo opiekuńcze.

    This paper outlines the process of developing an instrument for measuring the sense of inequity at work. The research tool we created enables the evaluation of work satisfaction, in the meaning of J.S. Adams's theory. In order to elaborate the method and make a preliminary selection of questions, we conducted a pilot study. As for the main research, it was to examine the theoretical accuracy and to prove the reliability of the questionnaire.

    An economic scenario has been considered where the government seeks to achieve a favourable balance-of-payments over a fixed planning horizon through exchange rate policy and control of the domestic interest rate. The dynamics of such an economy was considered in terms of a bounded optimal control problem where the exchange rate is the state variable and the domestic interest rate is the control variable. The idea of balance-of-payments was used as a theoretical underpinning to specify the objective function. By assuming that, changes in exchange rates were induced by two effects: the impact of the domestic interest rate on the exchange rate and the exchange rate system adopted by the government. Instances for both fixed and flexible optimal exchange rate regimes have been determined. The use of the approach has been illustrated employing data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin.

    RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to investigate applicability of Adam Smith’s Labour Theory of Value (LTV) and present both: the development of Adam Smith’s LTV as well as the early Anglo-American respond to the thesis that labour is real measure of the exchangeable value of all commodities. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Paper analyses premises that led Adam Smith to formulate his thesis that the labour it the only common measure of all value; as well as the reasons for critiques and appraisals of Smith’s thesis. Using analytical methods, as Frederic Beiser defined it, paper will “identify the problem behind a passage, the question the author is attempting to answer, (…) reconstruct the arguments the author gives for its solution, i.e., formulate them into premises and conclusion [and] (…) appraise these arguments, determining their formal validity and the quality of the evidence for them.” THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: After taking preliminary considerations on development of Smith’s theory the paper examines the earliest critique by the Anglo-American thinker Thomas Pownall. Finally, to investigate shortcomings of Pownall’s criticism, the paper explores various British and American attempts to implement LTV in utopian experiments and validate accuracy of Smith’s assumptions in practice. RESEARCH RESULTS: The result of the study is to clarify the Smith’s LTV concept and present it in new light, without the Marxist distortion given to it by both: Karl Marx itself and Marxists supporters. CONCLUSSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: This proves that no matter how disputable and undefined the LTV concept might be, and besides all imperfections of LTV theory emphasised by Pownall, under specific circumstances it might be implemented into practice. The paper focusses on pre-Ricardian economy and utopian social experiment and therefore it provides new context of analysis does not intend to present the Marxist variations on LTV.

    The value of money depends on the subjective value of other goods that can be obtained in exchange for it.The central element in the subjective theory of money value is the concept of objective theory of money. Both the subjective use-value of money and subjective exchange value of money are derived from its objective exchange value.Subjective valuation of money is possible on the assumption that the money has a  certain objective exchange value i.e. the possibility of obtaining certain quantity of other economic goods in exchange for a  given quantity of money. The past objective value of money is always linked with is present and future valuations. The first objective exchange value of money was the value which the goods used as money possessed at the moment when they first used as common media of exchange.

    Opis:
    The psychological contract refers to presumed and subjective beliefs in relation to the exchange relationship, considered mainly between employees and employers. An immanent part of the psychological contract is its subjectivity and the relationship of exchange of expectations, promises or commitments of both parties to the employment relationship. The conditions in which modern organisations have to operate justify the use of the psychological contract for the analysis of employment relationships, but do not yet take into account the emerging new form of relationship at the workplace. Currently, thanks to the development of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, the role of robots in the workplace is growing. The aim of the article is to outline the framework for building the involvement of employees in technologically, socially and emotionally advanced forms of artificial intelligence. The manifestations of workers' interactions with social robots within the framework of a contractual partnership will be defined. To this end, the arguments for the possibility of concluding a psychological contract between a human and a robot based on the theory of exchange and the standard of reciprocity, which can set new directions for research in this area, are reviewed.

    Niewątpliwą wadą modelu teorii perspektywy jest możliwość oceny wariantów decyzyjnych złożonych z co najwyżej dwóch niezerowych wyników. Wada ta uniemożliwia stosowanie jej na większą skalę, gdyż w większości rzeczywistych wariantów decyzyjnych należy brać pod uwagę więcej możliwych wyników decyzji, a także często warianty decyzyjne mają ciągły rozkład prawdopodobieństwa. W pracy zostaną przedstawione koncepcje rozszerzające teorię perspektywy na warianty decyzyjne o rozkładach ciągłych oraz o rozkładach dyskretnych z więcej niż dwoma niezerowymi wynikami. Przykłady zastosowania prezentowanych modeli będą opierać się na rzeczywistych danych giełdowych.
    The work presents concepts extending prospect theory on decision-making alternatives with continuous distributions and discrete distributions with more than two non-zero outcomes. Examples of the application of the presented models will be based on real market data. The first part of the paper describes the principles of prospect theory, the second part shows the proposal of Rieger and Wang which extends the prospect theory to continuous distributions, also the extension to alternatives with more than two outcomes is presented. In the third section we give the example of the practical application of prospect theory for continuous distributions to create rankings of stocks belonging to the WIG20 index. We also built the rankings of these companies based on their valuation on the basis of prospect theory for discrete distributions.

    Opis:
    Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje badanie poświęcone anomalii niskiej ceny na polskim rynku akcji. Wykorzystując sortowanie, metody analizy przekrojowej oraz testy relacji monotonicznych, badanie obejmuje notowania ponad 850 spółek z polskiego rynku akcji w latach 2000-2014. W przeciwieństwie do obserwacji na rynkach rozwiniętych, polskie spółki o wysokiej cenie nominalnej notują wyższe stopy zwrotu aniżeli spółki o niższej cenie nominalnej. Co więcej, dodatkowe sortowania przy pomocy wskaźników wyceny, kapitalizacji oraz momentum mogą zostać wykorzystane do poprawy efektywności strategii opartych na cenie nominalnej. Odwrotny charakter efektu niskiej ceny na krajowym rynku kapitałowym może być potencjalnie wyjaśniony przy pomocy innej anomalii: efektu akcji loteryjnych. Na koniec, przy wykorzystaniu alternatywnej metodologii, niniejsza praca weryfikuje hipotezę Bakera i in. [2009], zgodnie z którą menedżerowie przedsiębiorstw wykorzystują splity do zarządzania wartością przedsiębiorstwa.
    The study investigates the low-price effect on the Polish stock market. Using sorting, cross-sectional tests and checks of the monotonic relation, we examine the performance of portfolios formed on prices of over 850 companies listed on the Polish stock market in the years 2000-2014. Contrary to global evidence, expensive stocks significantly outperform cheap stocks there. Furthermore, additional sorts on value, size and momentum may be used to improve price-based strategies and the anomaly is strongest among growth companies. We hypothesize that the reverse character of the low-price anomaly may be potentially explained by an impact of other phenomena, like the underperformance of lottery-stocks. Moreover, employing an alternative methodology, we provide convincing out-of-sample evidence in support of the hypothesis of Baker et al. [2009], that corporate managers cater to investors by splitting their shares in response to time-varying catering incentives.
