Opis:
Ethics of sexuality is an exceptional field within the realm of ethics, due to its close connection with extra-ethical concepts, mainly religious ones. This fact differentiates sexual ethics from other ethical disciplines, such as ethics of business or eco-ethics. This is because, however one can talk about Christian or non-Christian (e.g. utilitarian) concepts within those ethics, there is no way one could talk about utilitarian ethics of sexuality: such ethics as a separate discipline simply do not exist. In my article I would like to formulate and justify values and principles relating to sexual relations. In order to do so, one has on one hand to consider the values formulated by Christian ethics, as well as the principles built on them – and, on the other hand, to look at arguments for including the sphere of sexuality within “lay” ethical reflexion. In my considerations as main research problem I pose the thesis: should sexual drive and the behaviours immediately resulting therefrom undergo ethical evaluation, or as a private sphere, they should remain outside the scope of interest of ethics.

Opis:
Wprowadzenie. Materiały i metody. Dokumenty krajowe i międzynarodowe, literatura przedmiotu. Analiza treści.
Introduction. The issues of human sexuality are an extremely important area of educational activity and the needs in the field of sexual education seem to be currently beyond discussion. This obvious need for education results from a number of contemporary social phenomena, including the transformation of modern human communities into information societies. It manifests in immediate and unlimited access to many sources of knowledge, with the simultaneous problem of verifying their quality and truthfulness, as well as in a high risk of encountering harmful and dangerous content. The phenomenon of sexualisation of children, understood as attributing to them features of sexually attractive and mature people, while reducing the value of a person only to their physical characteristics and appearance, is also significant. At the same time, two highly polarized and mutually exclusive discourses on sexuality education (conservative and liberal ones) are present in the public sphere. The dispute in this context mainly concerns the needs, aims, assumptions, influence, forms, and content of people educating in the field of sexuality. And the discussion itself has a strongly politicized and ideological character. Aim. The purpose of this article is to present the theoretical aspects of sexuality education. Various definitions and relations between sexuality education and upbringing, types of education, and their effectiveness will be presented, as well as the history of the subject implementation to Polish schools. The most important features of effective and professional sexuality education and the tasks of the family in this regard will also be indicated. Materials and methods. National and international documents, literature on the subject. Content analysis.

Background. Combined oral contraceptive pills containing ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel are the most common contraceptives that are used by women of the reproductive age. Moreover, sexual function is linked to sexual hormones. Objectives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sexual function of hormonal contraceptive (OCP) and non-hormonal contraceptive (traditional or withdrawal) methods in Iranian reproductive-age women referred to healthcare centers. Material and methods. This was a cross-sectional study on 206 married women of the reproductive age (18–45). Ninety-six women used OCP to prevent pregnancy, and 110 women did not use any contraceptives, instead using a traditional (withdrawal) method for at least 6 months before the study. Data on sexual function was collected via the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. The independent t-test was used for statistical purposes. Results. The results showed that there were no significant differences in all domains of sexual function in the two groups, except in the area of sexual arousal (3.87 in OCP users and 4.14 in withdrawal user methods) (p < 0.05). There was an association between the arousal domain and oral contraceptive use, but there was no relation between OCP and other domains of sexual function. Conclusions. The combined oral and withdrawal contraceptive methods have no impact on sexual function, except in the area of sexual arousal.

Disability in Polish films is not a marginal issue. As a film topic, it has been explored in many different ways and contexts due to a nexus of diverse relations, trends and social phenomena. All of which have revealed the degree of intensity of the phenomenon as well as its historic changeability. On the one hand, such images have been a reflection of the filmmakers’ interests and, on the other, a source of knowledge on disability and a kind of catalyst for socio-moral transformation shaping the attitudes and behaviour of society towards the disabled. The problem is presented by,, images of disabled film characters, which are widely used in Polish cinematography and often built on socialstereotypes, as well as by the communicative strategies used by filmmakers in their works on disability. In this context, films about disability have played an opinion-forming role, contributing greatly to an enhanced image of disabled people in society and widening their area of activity. The sexuality of people with disabilities is portrayed as asexuality and hypersexuality, and in Polish cinema it mainly concerns the emotional sphere, and less so the physical.

Opis:
Sex and sexuality are two obsessions of the 19th century. As the literature of this time, influenced by the Victorian hypocritical morality, rejects these subjects, considered as “immoral”, the relation of any form of sexual act is consequently absent in the works of 19th century writers, even of those who consider themselves as realists. However, the work of a writer like Emile Zola cannot overlook this problem, so important for naturalism. For Zola, sex is a vital activity and should be shown in works of art. Therefore, to give his writings the appearance of decency, Zola uses metaphors that “sexualise” some elements of the world of his novels, like plants, animals, things, places and everyday occupations. This allows him to show, in an imaginary way, the aspects of life that cannot be displayed openly and directly. Thank to his poetic talent these images constitute a valuable part of his Rougon-Macquart series.

The article is an attempt of commentary on the Aristophanes’ comedy in feminist/gender perspective. Images of women, stereotypes of both sexes and sexual identity in the old-Greek comedy are an object of analyses and interpretation. This article uses arguments of many commentators of Aristophanes’ theatre, for example Christopher A. Faraone, Lisa P. Vetter, Angus M. Bowie, Kenneth J. Dover or Jerzy Łanowski in order to illustrate how an individual can go beyond the limits of durable and common social or sexual games. I try to show that the works of the old-Greek writer are constantly opened for new strategies of interpretation and many-sided description of his comedies is in fact the matter of the humanities of future.

Michał Witkowski’s novel Drwal (The woodcutter) shows various approaches to the subject of sexuality, what seems particularly inspiring, cognitively valuable and important from the perspective of this article is corporeality connected with elements related to money and finances, which are based on an integral, inseparable connection of two – seemingly not directly related – areas: sex and finances. For the novel’s protagonists, these two areas are inextricably complementing each other. The goal of this article is to examine and interpret the images of sexuality related to the sphere of finances presented by Witkowski, to understand their functions, to consider the consequences of combining these two areas, and to analyze the relationship between erotica relationship with the financial sphere and the uneroticizing of human sexuality. Thus the aim of this text is to verify whether the sexuality described in the novel is devoid of eroticism. Further, the paper discuse the manner of presenting these approaches to sexuality. The article also considerate the language of showing this specific approach to sexuality and reflection on its implications.

The article contains reflections on the phenomenon of sexuality in old age and socio-cultural perspec- tive, an indication of the different valuation of old women and men, and analysis of the Polish sexol- ogists discourse on sexuality seniors. Old age and sexuality is experienced by women differently from men. In women, the beginning of old age and problems with sexuality is linked to menopause. Women already starting to think about old age too, and withdraw from sexual activity, despite the fact that they live longer. The reason for the differences in experiencing the identity of the woman's age is strongly associated with body. Sexuality of the elderly in the discourse of the expert is therefore seen as a clinical disorder and its associated problems. There are also criteria for the norm of sexual behavior is full sexual intercourse, other sexual behaviors are the only associated activities. Accepted definition of old age is also not clear, old age is no concern menopausal women and men over 80 years old, although it is noted changes in the intensity of sexual behavior from 50 years of age.

In consequence, in Nahua thought these birds were the opposite and complementary pairs of the women who died in childbirth. Th is idea has its origin in the parallelism of war with labor and death in childbirth; 3) A hummingbird sipping from a fl ower is a metaphorical expression of sexual intercourse. The flower is the representation of the feminine sexuality because its petals symbolize the vulva, while the hummingbird is the symbol of the masculine sexuality and, specifi cally, the penis; 4) The use of hummingbird as a charm for courtship in colonial times and following centuries can be explained by its link with the sun as masculine potency. Th us the bird is the fertility aspect of the sun.

Mogutin says that if there was no fascism in history, followers of S&M would invent it in their „politically incorrect” fantasies. The post-war fascist culture continues to shock decent citizens in modern times producing in their frightened bourgeois consciousness the apocalyptic visions of the end of the world. Mogutin accentuates the special place and considerable implications of the fascist theme for works of authors recognized in the world of contemporary literature.

There is a sense in which we can speak of two levels of dominant and peripheral sexual spaces within the Nigerian discourse of sexuality. The dominant space deals with the generally acceptable sexual orientation that essentially draws its legitimacy from the biological configuration of sexuality within the African temper of mind. It lays claim, at one level, to the public/cultural sexual space and, at another level, to the private sexual space which also, presumably, directly follows from the cultural sexual course. On the other hand, the peripheral sexual space is seen, to put it in Guarav Desai phrase, as “any nonnormative sexual practices” (2007, p. 736). This marginal sexual orientation has perhaps largely operated within the level of private sexual space, but now it seeks to renegotiate the Nigerian cultural/public sexual space. It is this attempt to renegotiate the dominant cultural/public sexual space that seems to have raised the tension within the discourse of sexuality in Nigeria in recent times leading to the legislation that out-rightly criminalises alternative sexuality in Nigeria. It is this contentious sexual orientation within the African consciousness; its presumed origin, violence and politics of practice that forms the focus of Kunle Afolayan’s film, October 1. This paper looks at October 1 within the contentious discourse of that which is seen as a forbidden sexuality, its attendant violence and destruction in relation to the fluidity and the shifting bases of African cultural orientation in the face of individualism and fundamental human right.

With time, the research subject has been expanded, from the analysis of the assimilation of the Belarusian minority to the contemporary face of the idea of a multicultural society, discussing not only nationality, religiosity, but also non-heteronormities.

The various aspects of Christian Liberty and of the life of the Christian in the world are linked in a singular way in Paul’s pronouncements on marriage, as is found in 1 Cor 7:1–7 ff. Our choice of St. Augustine in the numerous contemporary scholarly attempted hermeneutics of 1 Cor 7:1–7 is that he adopts and elaborated an already existing tradition on sex and marriage. Moreover, this text in the New Testament is the only one that speaks explicitly of the significance of conjugal intercourse. The interpretation of this text or passage has to an extent determined the development of the church’s tradition. Thus, the importance of the passage has to be considered. In Cor 7:1, Paul starts answering the questions the Corinthians put to him. Verse 1 reads: “Now concerning the matters about which you wrote”. The first of these questions concerns marriage. According to the superscription of this work, Augustine’s interpretation of 1 Cor 7:1–7 has implications for Christians in the contemporary world. In as much as it raises numerous problems to our contemporary understanding of marriage and sexuality, the problem of sexuality characterized our society today.

The aim of the article is to analyse two British contemporary operas: Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face and Mark Anthony Turnage’s Anna Nicole from the perspective of celebrity studies. Both of these works were inspired by the biographies of celebrities – Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll’s and Anna Nicole Smith’s. The text analyses how their biographies were edited both in literary and musical terms, attempting to determine to what extent they are either pioneering or embedded in the traditions of the opera.

Using feminist, queer and gender theories as well as some basic psychoanalytical tools, the author tries to dismantle the toxicity of both daddy issues and masculinity itself. Discussing a mainstream Hollywood film, a festival circuit film and a popular TV show, this article offers an insight into and a thoroughly critical perspective on one of the worst shadows of manhood, that is the father figure.

We presents a part of data from research that focused on attitudinal and behavioural attributes of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities and their socio-cultural and ethical contexts. As a research tool we used part of standardized Attitudes to sexuality questionnaire (Individuals from the general population: ASQ – GP) from authors Cuskelly, Gilmore (2007). We analyze those results, which were not related to preferences in the area of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities, but were related to sexuality education and sexuality of men and women in general.

Opis:
Aim. The aim is to present the results of research on the sexual nervousness of men and women. Methods. 87 Ukrainian men and women were interviewed. For the analysis of the obtained results, methods of statistical processing of data were used. Results. It has been established that there are differences between men and women in terms of sexual nervousness, attitudes towards pornographic materials, sexual arousal, friendly and exchange approaches to sex, signs of positive relationships with others and self-acceptance. Men are more focused on careful approach to sex and woman on friendly approach. Men are more loyal to pornographic products and reach sexual arousal faster. They have higher levels of sexual nervousness. For both men and women, sexual satisfaction is related to a reduction in sexual nervousness and an increase in a sense of feasibility in a sexual way. Dissatisfaction with a men’s sex life is related to emotional discomfort. With the growth of sexual-neurotic feeling and sexual actions the desire for a technically perfect sexual act increases neglecting other aspects of relationships and partner’s wishes. Women who are dependent on others tend to reject themselves and dissatisfaction with their sexual lives increases. Conclusions. Male and female sexuality is associated with many factors of the individual’s mental life. The experience of subjective well-being and quality of life includes sexual satisfaction. Sexual nervousness is closely related to personal nervousness, which in turn is a set of negative emotional feeling, expressed destructive and inconsistent personality traits, and impedes efficient social and psychological functioning. Sexual nervousness is defined as dissatisfaction, disappointment in sex life that leads to neurotic sexual response – difficulties in controlling the sexual urge, confusion, anxiety, etc.

The key issue of the analysis, concentrated on the dystopia by Juan Goytisolo, Makbara, is the condition of human sexual body which, in terms proposed by Baudrillard, can be qualified as post-orgiastic. While an asexual, aseptic social system is created in the modern, civilized Europe, Morocco seems to be the last refuge not only for the marginalized sexuality, but also for the romantic dreams about marriage. Nonetheless, the Moroccan promise of authentic eroticism acquires a necrophilic flavour of “love at the cemetery”. In the conclusion, Goytisolo is shown as the advocate of a dying, spectral culture, victim of unceasing, manifold exploitation and unable to counterbalance the European symbolic and economic predominance in the Mediterranean.

The aim of the article is to discuss the understanding of human sexuality evinced by a group of Kenyan Catholics from the methodological perspective of pastoral theology, pointing out certain conclusions and pastoral suggestions. The article comprises the following parts: theological-normative, sociological, and theological-postulating. The first synthetically presents human sexuality from the point of view of the teaching of the Catholic Church, the second discusses methodology and results of the conducted empirical research, while the third presents conclusions and suggestions for pastoral care of families. The research results show that the majority of respondents shared Catholic convictions on sexuality. However, less than half of the respondents believed that love of a man and a woman serves to transmit life to children and that true love of a man and woman requires an indissoluble marriage. A quite high percentage of respondents did not agree that sexual intercourse aims to forge a psychological and spiritual bond between the partners. Women more rarely than men shared Catholic convictions on human sexuality and more rarely than men believed that a human being should not be used as if he/ she was an object. This may show women’s lack of access to education as well as a strong impact of local traditional cultural models on their understanding of the role of women. These results point to some missionary-pastoral challenges, especially as regards education of youth, spouses, and spouses-to-be, as well as that of clergy, catechists, and lay employees of family ministry.

Opis:
Negative sexuality as a passive social attitude Negative sexuality is a sexuality that isn’t a part of feeling of identity and self-acceptance. It is burdened with feelings of shame, guilt and threat. In Polish society there is an atmosphere of negative sexuality. There is a lack of tolerance towards diversity and sexual freedom, understood as free expression of the self. It is a situation which threatens the psychological well-being. The deprecation and normativization of human sexuality is ensnarled in relations of power which petrify the social status quo. That leads to totalitarian management of our sexuality and maintenance of that status due to psychological mechanisms of submitting to totalitarian powers. To show these processes I refer to such thinkers as Michel Foucault, Erich Fromm, Theodor Adorno, Wilhelm Reich and Karen Horney.Such reality is also a result of social processes which shaped it. Influential here were the processes related to power and culture. Negative templates have been present in our culture for long time, a fact which I exemplify by analyzing Polish culture through the Polish cinema of the People’s Republic period. Today, passive social attitudes have resulted in continued cultivating of these negative social norms.I show alternatives to the atmosphere of negative sexuality, describing the movement for positive sexuality and its benefits for psychological health of individuals and society. While I throw doubt on the possibility of a popularization of queer theory in Poland, I also show some universal strategies of resistance against those exercising power over human sexuality. I describe the phenomenon of bioresistance and freeing physicality drawing on the example of works by Krzysztof Pacewicz about the theories of Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben. In more practical terms, I analyze the present condition of sexual education anti-discrimination movements in Poland. In my work I want to show that a sexually positive life attitude, which means a life of acceptance of oneself and others and creation of a nonviolent space, enables universal self-acceptance and self-development. It is also a proactive social attitude because it requires intellectual and political involvement in regard to emerging reality. I believe that positive sexuality supported by positive sex-ed and social involvement is a very important element of resistance against power relations. By pokazać te procesy, przywołuję myślicieli i myślicielki takie jak Michel Foucault, Erich Fromm, Theodor Adorno, Wilhelm Reich i Karen Horney. Analizuję kondycję edukacji seksualnej i ruchów antydyskryminacyjnych w Polsce w czasie teraźniejszym.Moja praca ma pokazać, że sekspozytywna postawa życiowa, czyli akceptacja siebie i innych oraz tworzenie bezprzemocowej przestrzeni umożliwia powszechną samoakceptację i samorozwój. Jest jednocześnie aktywną postawą społeczną, ponieważ wymaga zaangażowania intelektualnego i politycznego we wpływaniu na zastaną rzeczywistość. Uważam, że pozytywna seksualność, wspierana pozytywną edukacją seksualną i zaangażowaniem społecznym, to bardzo istotny element oporu wobec relacji władzy.

Background: The changes that occur in a woman’s body during the perimenopausal period may influence feelings of attractiveness and perception of status in an intimate relationship, which may play a role in overall sexual satisfaction. Aim of the study: The present study aimed to analyze the influence of selected perimenopausal symptoms on the perception of satisfaction with sexual life in urban and rural women. Material and methods: This study included 224 women from urban areas and 106 women from rural areas who were using general practice services. Inclusion criteria were women who had not menstruated for 2–5 years. The measures used were the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female questionnaire (SQoL-F). Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationship between the severity of perimenopausal symptoms and satisfaction with sexual life. Results: A greater proportion of urban women reported symptoms in the perimenopausal period than rural women. Statistically significant correlations were observed for irritability (P = 0.03) and sexual problems (P = 0.01). However, rural women reported a greater degree of symptom severity. There was a statistically significant difference in severity of somatic and psychological symptoms between urban and rural women. In urban women, the average score for general satisfaction with their sexual life was 62 ± 19.96, whereas the average score for rural women was slightly less, 59 ± 23.56. A statistically significant inverse relationship was observed between the severity of perimenopausal symptoms and quality of sexual life, with values of Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients ranging from −0.490 to −0.064. Conclusions: Urban or rural residence had a slight influence on the frequency and severity of perimenopausal symptoms, and severity of symptoms had a significant influence on women’s satisfaction with their sexual life.

The subject of the article is the problem of adolescence to sex and sexuality. As illustrated in the literature, the behavior associated with bodily maturation is subject to strong restrictions on adults. The sexuality discourse tells how much he is silent. The analysis was: Frank Wedekind’s drama of the early twentieth century, „Awakening of the Spring” (sexual taboo limits children and adults), Robert Musil’s prose „The anxiety of Törless’s pupil” (indicates repressed sexuality as a source of aggression and violence), and Polish tragedy of Tadeusz Różewicz „White marriage” (silent about sex hidden in words).

The paper deals with the question of tabooization in contemporary Czech children’s literature. Firstly, it is an attempt to define the term “taboo” from the position of a specific genre, such as literature for children. Then, using selected examples of contemporary Czech books for children, we will try to show how contemporary authors and illustrators treat the categories of vulgarity, sexuality and physicality. Do they intend to express the desire to cross social taboos and shock, or the desire to speak “naturally about natural things”? This endeavor to cross borders is most likely related to the so-called collapse of the age category in literature for children and youth.

Sexuality is most natural and healthy when it is part of an emotionally genuine relationship, not even as its central part but rather as an upgrade of the intimacy of two people who are mutually loyal, committed, loving and respectful. However, if an individual was sexually abused in childhood, they may have suffered the severest consequences of sexual abuse trauma in the area of sexuality, and their experience of sexuality will be completely different from those who were not sexually abused. The article first describes what children learn about sex if they have been sexually abused, as this experience is very much related to the most common behaviours and experiences in adult sexuality. Then we present a theoretical overview of research on sexuality in adults who suffered childhood sexual abuse. The theory will be supplemented and supported by the statements of individuals who have been attending a therapeutic group for the sexually abused in childhood for two years. The statements quoted in the article refer to the period prior to the therapeutic process. Clinical experience shows that, until the victim has resolved the trauma of sexual abuse, the dynamics between the offender and the victim during childhood abuse is most often very similar to the dynamics of the abused with their partner, even in their sexual life.

In this article I want to show the relationship between the phenomenon of the gender reproduction and Polish philology formal education (state, conditions through a network of ministerial documents) at the high school stage. A significant part of the article refers to the mechanisms of reproduction in general knowledge, which is the basis for the belief that the interpretation of literary texts and the subject teacher's attitude affects the reproduction of gender norms. At the outset, I am presenting the tests' results of the year 2011, relating to the institutional determinants of educational processes, to then move to propose a model of reading taking into account such categories, as: gender, sexuality, otherness etc. I assume that this interpretation should be a multidimensional reading, open to the flow of meaning, against the symbolic violence and context.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to link the philosophy of Levinas with the bioethical issues of the beginning of human life. The author refers to those statements of Levinas in which he describes who a person is, what is human body, being male/female, fatherhood. The ethical-anthropological character of Levinas’ thought makes it a profound source for contemporary discussions on moral themes, bioethical problems included. However, certain difficulties arise on account of the philosopher’s highly individual language. The aim of the article is to confront the language o f Levinas with the traditional language of Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy and colloquial language. The text is a proposition how to build bioethics not only on Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy or utilitarian or pragmatic philosophy but also on the philosophy of Levinas, as it sheds additional light on the problem of man, existence, life and interpersonal relations.

The paper is a short theoretical summary of relationships between the notions of nation, gender and sexuality in a nationalistic discourse. It is also an attempt at applying this knowledge for analyzing selected artifacts of pop culture. In the first part of the paper, theoretical and research findings on the constructs of gender and sexuality in a nationalistic discourse are presented. In the second part these findings are used for a discursive analysis of gender and sexuality constructs in selected songs / stage acts presented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and a pastiche cover version of one of them.

The subject of shame appears in moral theology especially in conjunction with a reflection on marital and family life, for which – as it emphasizes – an important form of preparation is nurturing the feeling of shame, especially at the level of sexual life. Studies of moral theology rarely talk about shame negatively. Meanwhile shame, in addition to all its positive aspects, can also be bad; personally and socially destructive. Shame may have the wrong object and an exaggerated intensity. Therefore shame, like every emotion, requires formation and subjecting it to reason and will, and above all harnessing it in the service of love.

Topic of homosexuality is gradually coming to consciousness (not only) in Slovak society and it also due to the many professional works, which after the political changes in the last decade in our country gradually emerge from the depths of the taboo spheres to the spheres of ideological confrontations and constructive discussions. We do not claim that our society has reached the necessary level of debate both groups, heterosexual majority and gay and lesbian minority. However, took a path whose goal has signs of democratic society. All new phenomena must strike a long way till they are completely understated, accepted by society and at last integrated to the common life of society. Homosexuality is such a phenomenon. This path is a test of endurance gays and lesbians and heterosexuals test of democratic thinking. The contribution we tried to transmit a little further from the general question of homosexuality, specifically one of the areas described below, which is an area of „presence” of the child in the gay and lesbian partnerships.

Opis:
Among all sorts of technological and cultural breakthroughs affecting our civilisation which we have witnessed over the last few decades, the changes regarding the most intimate spheres of human nature, those of sexuality, may have passed unnoticed. A series of changes in social norms triggered after 1968 resulted in a situation which, as far as sexuality is concerned, can be described as a real „controversy over human existence”. This paper will briefly outline some of the characteristics of the social changes that have occurred over the past fifty years and which have had a significant impact on the understanding of the nature of sexuality. Then, two apparently competing visions of man, the traditional and the modernist will be compared. As far as the traditional concept is concerned, reference will be made to the teachings of John Paul II. The modernist approach will be illustrated based on the „Standards for Sexuality Education in Europa” formulated by the World Health Organisation. The objective is not to settle the dispute, but to try and highlight its substance as well as the consequences arising from adopting one or the other of the proposed approaches.

Opis:
At the turn of the 21st century, the ethical boundaries have been demolished in a dramatic way, especially in reference to the broadly understood human sexuality. An intensively promoted materialist anthropology connected to the reductive vision of human sexuality and sexual life, has created the foundation for anew ideology. Gender theory finds itself well in the postmodernist context, where multi-dimensional determinist conditioning, relativism and temporality of all human intellectual property are highlighted. The Traditional categories as femininity, masculinity, and heterosexuality were rejected and treated as mere archaic stereotypes. According to gender ideologists, in order to prevent discrimination one has to finally start the deconstruction of a patriarchal regime and replace it with anew, egocentric and hedonistic culture. The author of this article presents new challenges for the Catholic vision of the vocation of women and men highlighting the deconstruction of the biological sex, a new anthropology and the far-going transformations in the consciousness, social, cultural and political activity on an international scale.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the most common examples of these, in order to produce a common set of scientific problems, which may form the basis for further research.

The paper focuses on the previously unexplored topic of various forms of nudity in Sienkiewicz’s writing. The writer’s entire literary output is reviewed here, with special reference to novels (Quo vadis in particular is notorious for a plethora of sadistic erotic scenes). Given the writer’s extraordinary talent for seduction and his creative capabilities, the paper looks into images that could have been considered indecent at that time andwere prudently hushed up. The following modules: Collective nudity and mutilated nudity, Separate naked bodies, Diana at a water fountain, Human statues, and Naked manhood look at Sienkiewicz’s depiction of corporeality, eroticism, and sexuality, which, combined with cruelty, recur to reveal the writer’s intimate fantasies. The figures commonly used by Sienkiewicz in his works making recourse to mythology and other cultural texts include animalisation, reification, hyperbole, and synecdoche; they are particularly refined when it comes to nudity.

Opis:
This study presents St. Augustine’s personal experiences related to marriage and family that eventually influenced his views on these topics. Augustine of Hippo is considered one of the greatest theologians of the ancient Christian world. Although he was unmarried, he was born into a Christian family and experienced what it was like to live with a woman in a quasi-married state before he converted to Catholicism. Augustine left behind a large body of writings dedicated to the topics of marriage and family. Even though these works do not constitute a coherent treaty on marriage and family, they do shed light on these issues. They also reflect the current and pressing problems that affected not only St. Augustine but also the people of his time. St. Augustine’s views on marriage and family have had an immense influence on the entire Latin Church’s position on these issues. In this regard, the primary source that contains a lot of biographical information is Augustine’s Confessions. This study is made up of two parts. Part I describes Augustine’s childhood experiences and family life. Part II describes youth and his experience living with a female concubine. This original study presents the sources of St. Augustine’s views on human sexuality and his relationship with his family.

The article is centered around the peculiarity of trans experience and corporeality. Starting off with the definition of trans identity and its entanglement into gender and sexual norms, the author shows that it defies strict categorizations and is more about an-ongoing negotiation of senses and meanings. Instead of referring to the everyday life of queer subcultures and transgender communities though, risking the accusation of deploying an ethnographic, fetishizing look, the Author focuses on interpretation of cultural representations of trans individuals that could be found in modern American cinema. Offering comparative analysis of two pictures: Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Transamerica, the author critically reads specific narrative plots and devices that create the cultural image of trans characters, putting emphasis on their oppressive, stereotypical, but also emancipating potential.

In times of globalisation and super-mobility, ideas of normality are in turmoil. In different societies in, across and beyond Europe, we face the challenge of undoing specific notions of normality and creating more inclusive societies with an open culture of learning to live with differences. The scope of the paper is to introduce some findings on encounters with difference and negotiations of social values in relation to a growing visibility of difference after 1989 in Poland, on the background of a critique of normality/normalisation and normalcy. On the basis of interviews conducted inWarsaw, we investigate how normality/normalisation discourses of visible homosexuality and physical disability are incorporated into individual self-reflections and justifications of prejudices (homophobia and disabilism). More specifically we argue that there are moments of ‚cultural transgressions’ present in everyday practices towards ‚visible’ sexual and (dis)ability difference.

And the third one with the paradoxical use of the high heels as a source of women’s emancipation. The essay is devoted to the novels of the German writer Stephen Thome. The writer’s narrative attention is focused on the puzzlement regarding intimate relations between males and females, aiming at captur-ing to what extent love, “a warming and intoxicating drug in the social coldness” (Volkmar Sigusch) is capable of making life meaningful. In the very centre of the analysis stands on the one hand the ‘in-each other-reflection’ of the male and female positions, on the other hand the palpable ambivalence between the inner freezing of the figures and their desire for gentle intimacy. The attempt has been made in order to open the arranged forms of the fulfillment of the desire – i.e. love and sexuality – to the possibility of depicting the phenomenon which is – according to Sigusch – significant for the late-modern era: more important than the sexual act for the partners is a steady relationship in which they feel accepted and preserved.
