We provide new characterizations of acyclic inductive spectra of Fréchet spaces which improve the classical theorem of Palamodov and Retakh. It turns out that acyclicity, sequential retractivity (defined by Floret) and further strong regularity conditions (introduced e.g. by Bierstedt and Meise) are all equivalent. This solves a problem that was folklore since around 1970. For inductive limits of Fréchet-Montel spaces we obtain even stronger results, in particular, Grothendieck's problem whether regular (LF)-spaces are complete has a positive solution in this case and we show that even the weakest regularity conditions already imply acyclicity. One of the main benefits from our results is an improvement in the theory of projective spectra of (DFM)-spaces. We prove the missing implication in a theorem of Vogt and thus obtain evaluable conditions for vanishing of the derived projective limit functor which have direct applications to classical problems of analysis like surjectivity of partial differential operators on various classes of ultradifferentiable functions (as was explained e.g. by Braun, Meise and Vogt).

The aim of the paper is to generalize the (ultra-classical) notion of the determinant of a bilinear form to the class of bilinear forms on projective modules without assuming that the determinant bundle of the module is free. Successively it is proved that this new definition preserves the basic properties, one expects from the determinant. As an example application, it is shown that the introduced tools can be used to significantly simplify the proof of a recent result by B. Rothkegel.

Alexander's projective capacity for the polydisk and the ellipsoid in $ℂ^N$ is computed. Sharper versions of two inequalities concerning this capacity and some other capacities in $ℂ^N$ are given. A sequence of orthogonal polynomials with respect to an appropriately defined measure supported on a compact subset K in $ℂ^N$ is proved to have an asymptotic behaviour in $ℂ^N$ similar to that of the Siciak homogeneous extremal function associated with K.

Drawing on the international research program ‘Teacher presence. A Multicultural Comparison’, this paper tackles the issue of Polish teacher candidates’ representations of teacher presence in the classroom. The basis for the current study consists of drawings made by the participants in response to the task ‘Me, in my class’ and its accompanying question: What does this drawing tell me about you as an early childhood education teacher? Drawings done by the participants show not only the way in which the respondents perceive themselves and their roles as teachers but also the way in which they conceive the relationship with students in the classroom. The analysis of the collected material indicates strong institutional features embedded in the physical space of the school, where both the teacher and the students appear as typical products of the institution and where the relationship of power and subordination is still maintained. The classroom as an organized, didactic space and teacher-students relationships emerge as the two main components defining future teachers’ representation of teacher presence in the classroom.

Thomassen described all (except finitely many) regular tilings of the torus $ S_1 $ and the Klein bottle $N_2$ into (3,6)-tilings, (4,4)-tilings and (6,3)-tilings. Many researchers made great efforts to investigate the crossing number of the Cartesian product of an $m$-cycle and an $n$-cycle, which is a special kind of (4,4)-tilings, either in the plane or in the projective plane. In this paper we study the crossing number of the hexagonal graph $ H_{3,n} (n \ge 2) $, which is a special kind of (3,6)-tilings, in the projective plane, and prove that $$ cr_{N_1} (H_{3,n}) = \begin{cases} 0, & n=2, \\ n-1, & n \ge 3. \end{cases} $$

Theoretical background: Games are used in various fields beyond pure entertainment: education, health services or human resources. They are also considered one of the most rapidly growing trends in marketing. Using gamifiation to engage the consumer and increase his loyalty is commonly used in nearly all product categories. Playing games is fun and companies use it to attract and involve the consumers in their brands’ activities. In addition, the role of gamification in market research is increasing. It helps to understand consumer behaviour by inducing a more natural mood in the survey process, and increasing engagement and the cognitive accessibility of often hidden information. The effectiveness of gamification requires systematic verifiation in the experimental research. Researchers indicate the positive effect of gamified research on respondents’ engagement and efficiency.Purpose of the article: This article presents the current state of knowledge in the field of gamification in market research. Its main purpose is to share the author’s own research results which are the replication of former results showing the positive effects of gamified tasks used in surveys.Research methods: An experiment was conducted to verify the hypotheses regarding the increased effectiveness of gamified tasks compared to the regular approach as well as to the well-known projective techniques. A total of 132 participants were split into three groups: control, experimental 1 (projective techniques or simple gamification – addition of extra rules to regular questions) and experimental 2 (more complex, narrative and contextual tasks based on gamification).Main findings: The hypothesis was confirmed and the former effects were replicated – gamified tasks increase the respondents’ effectiveness compared to the standard tasks and also compared to the use of the well-known projective techniques.

We formulate and prove a formula to compute the expected value of the minimal random basis of an arbitrary finite matroid whose elements are assigned weights which are independent and uniformly distributed on the interval [0, 1]. This method yields an exact formula in terms of the Tutte polynomial. We give a simple formula to find the minimal random basis of the projective geometry PG(r − 1, q).

This article presents the results of research on determining inland vessel position using a single stationary, non-metric camera, which was positioned on the Długi Bridge in Szczecin. Studies included a comparison of graphical methods (i.e. geometric transformation and the bunch of rays method) and analytical methods (i.e. 2D to 2D transformation and 3D to 2D transformation). The research material was a collection of video images of an inland vessel navigating the West Odra River between the Długi and Kolejowy bridges in Szczecin. The results of the research were compared to reference points determined using tachymetric surveys and material acquired by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and the onboard GNSS satellite receiver with Real Time Kinematic (RTK) correction.
