Unfortunately, the widespread and increasingly popular use of pesticides has largely magnified quantities of pesticide residues in these plant products. Among the best methods for removal of these contaminants from food of plant origin are food processing technologies, which affect the levels of pesticide residues to various degrees. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of different water and thermal processing treatments on pesticide residue concentrations in selected fruit and vegetables obtained from controlled field and tunnel trials. Black currants, broccoli, strawberries and tomatoes sprayed with plant protection products were analyzed. Washing by immersion in chlorine and in ozonated water as well as boiling were used to assess the removal of eleven pesticides in blackcurrants, broccoli, strawberries and tomatoes. Processing factors, which were determined for each combination of a pesticide, commodity and processing method, ranged between 0.03 and 1.66. Washing in ozonated water was more effective than washing in chlorinated water. However, high temperature at boiling caused a significant decrease in the concentration of most compounds (up to 97%), although there were some exceptions. The thermal treatment proved to be the most effective technological process removing pesticide residues from different commodities. The water and thermal processing technologgies tested in this experiment are promising methods for fast and simple removal of pesticide residues from broccoli, black currants, strawberries, tomatoes and possibly other commodities.

Identity formation is conceptualized in terms of a social‐cognitive model that postulates stylistic differences in how people negotiate or manage to evade the challenge of constructing, maintaining, and/or reconstructing their sense of identity. Some people adopt an informed, refl ective orientation to identity conflicts and questions; others take a more automatic, normative approach; whereas others procrastinate and delay identity decisions until situational demands and consequences dictate how they react. The role that general rational and automatic cognitive processes and identity processing styles play in identity formation is considered. Research that has evaluated the theoretical hypothesis according to which the linkage between rational and automatic reasoning processes and measures of identity formation is mediated by identity processing style is reviewed. The fi ndings indicated that rational and automatic cognitive processes generally did account for signifi cant variance on measures of identity formation including strength of commitment, types of selfattributes within which one’s identity was grounded, and identity status. However, the fi ndings further revealed that identity processing styles at least in part mediated most of the relationships between cognitive processes and identity formation. In all of the analyses, identity processing styles explained a greater amount of the unique variation in measures of identity formation than the cognitive variables.

The full-fledged processing of temporal information presents specific challenges. These difficulties largely stem from the fact that the temporal meaning conveyed by grammatical means interacts with many extra-linguistic factors (world knowledge, causality, calendar systems, reasoning). This article proposes a novel approach to this problem, based on a hybrid strategy that explores the complementarity of the symbolic and probabilistic methods. A specialized temporal extraction system is combined with a deep linguistic processing grammar. The temporal extraction system extracts eventualities, times and dates mentioned in text, and also temporal relations between them, in line with the tasks of the recent TempEval challenges; and uses machine learning techniques to draw from different sources of information (grammatical and extra-grammatical) even if it is not explicitly known how these combine to produce the final temporal meaning being expressed. In turn, the deep computational grammar delivers richer truth-conditional meaning representations of input sentences, which include a principled representation of temporal information, on which higher level tasks, including reasoning, can be based. These deep semantic representations are extended and improved according to the output of the aforementioned temporal extraction module. The prototype implemented shows performance results that increase the quality of the temporal meaning representations and are better than the performance of each of the two components in isolation.

Although the emotions and learning based on emotional reaction are individual-specific, the main features are consistent among all people. Depending on the emotional states of the persons, various physical and physiological changes can be observed in pulse and breathing, blood flow velocity, hormonal balance, sound properties, face expression and hand movements. The diversity, size and grade of these changes are shaped by different emotional states. Acoustic analysis, which is an objective evaluation method, is used to determine the emotional state of people’s voice characteristics. In this study, the reflection of anxiety disorder in people’s voices was investigated through acoustic parameters. The study is a case-control study in cross-sectional quality. Voice recordings were obtained from healthy people and patients. With acoustic analysis, 122 acoustic parameters were obtained from these voice recordings. The relation of these parameters to anxious state was investigated statistically. According to the results obtained, 42 acoustic parameters are variable in the anxious state. In the anxious state, the subglottic pressure increases and the vocalization of the vowels decreases. The MFCC parameter, which changes in the anxious state, indicates that people can perceive this situation while listening to the speech. It has also been shown that text reading is also effective in triggering the emotions. These findings show that there is a change in the voice in the anxious state and that the acoustic parameters are influenced by the anxious state. For this reason, acoustic analysis can be used as an expert decision support system for the diagnosis of anxiety.

Dichromate and ethanol-chlorobenzene dosimeters were studied in conditions of annual temperature changes during process control at the Radiation Unit of the Vinča Institute. Measurements were performed in February (10-14°C) and August (22-35°C) for the dose range 10-50 kGy. The difference between measurements using these dosimeters is in agreement with the previous laboratory studies of temperature effect on the dose response of a dichromate dosimeter. The absorbed doses measured by these two dosimeters are in good agreement and the difference is within a limit of 3% for the studied dose range. The uncertainties of dose measurements using dichromate dosimeter arising from irradiation during annual temperature changes appear to be well within acceptable limits indicating that this dosimeter can be used as a routine dosimeter.

The paper reports on wastewater management in food processing enterprises, using the Ciechanów Dairy Cooperative as an example. The efficiency of preliminary treatment of wastewater entering the municipal sewerage system was evaluated using basic pollution indices for wastewater pre-treated in the process of chemical neutralisation as well as results of physical and chemical analyses of raw wastewater from fromage fraise and cottage cheese production lines. The number of exceedances of permissible values of pollution indices in pre-treated wastewater was determined based on values set in the water legal permits issued by the relevant authority. Pretreated wastewater entering the municipal sewerage system met the standards for permissible wastewater pollution indicators excluding BOD5 (biochemical oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand). Physical and chemical analysis was performed of total raw wastewater and wastewater discharged from fromage fraise and cottage cheese production lines. Pollution indicators (COD, total nitrogen, orthophosphates, total suspensions, fats, pH) had high values but they remained within the ranges typical for dairy food processing.

In this paper, the results of investigations into, and of the analyses of, the hot deformation behaviour of the Ni50Cr45N0.6 alloy were presented. Compression tests were conducted on a Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator within the following temperatures range 850-1200°C and within that of the strain rate 1-40 s-1 to the constant true strain of 0.9, for the purpose of fulfilling the objective of obtaining experimental stress date. Those data were taken advantage of for the purpose of calculating the workability parameters, and that means the efficiency of power dissipation η, the flow instability ξ and the strain rate sensitivity m. The processing maps based upon Murty’s criterion were drawn up for the following true strain range: 0.2-0.9, and, subsequently, both processing windows and the flow instability areas were determined. For the alloy being analysed, the most advantageous conditions of metal forming were ascertained within the following range of temperatures: 950-1000°C, and for that of the strain rate amounting to 10-40 s-1, and that because of (occurring at the temperature of 950°C) the peak of the efficiency of power dissipation parameter η, amounting to 22% (in accordance with Murty’s criterion). The flow instability areas identified on the processing maps ought to be avoided in metal forming processes. Experimental rolling tests were also conducted.

Technologia tarciowej modyfikacji warstw wierzchnich z mieszaniem materiału (Friction Stir Processing - FSP) to nowa metoda wywodząca się z procesu zgrzewania Friction Stir Welding — FSW, która pierwotnie została opracowana dla stopów aluminium. Metoda FSP pozwala miejscowo modyfikować i kontrolować warstwy wierzchnie materiału. Proces ten powoduje intensywne odkształcenie plastyczne, mieszanie materiału i jego homogenizację w strefie mieszania. Technologia FSP z powodzeniem może być stosowana do rozdrabniania mikrostruktury, wytwarzania kompozytów oraz modyfikowania mikrostruktury materiałów. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań procesu FSP prowadzonego na odlewniczym stopie aluminium AK64. Badania obejmowały określenie wpływu warunków prowadzenia procesu na ciepło generowane w obszarze mieszania oraz wartość momentu działającego na narzędzie. Wyniki badań wykazały, że wzrost prędkości obrotowej narzędzia powoduje zmniejszenie momentu działającego na nie oraz zmniejszenie ilości ciepła generowanego w obszarze mieszania. Równocześnie wykazano, iż wzrost prędkości przesuwu narzędzia powoduje wzrost momentu oraz wzrost ilości generowanego ciepła. Z badań metalograficznych wynika, że głębokość oddziaływania narzędzia w dużym stopniu zależy od prędkości obrotowej narzędzia, a w mniejszym od prędkości jego przesuwu.
Friction Stir Processing (FSP), based on the general principles of friction stir welding (FSW) technology, is a solid state joining process originally developed for aluminium alloys. FSP is a technique which makes possible to obtain localized modification and control of microstructures in near - surface layers of processed materials. The FSP causes intense plastic deformation, material mixing, and thermal exposure, resulting in significant microstructural refinement, densification, and homogeneity of the processed zone. The FSP technique has been successfully used for producing the fine-grained structure and surface composite, modifying the microstructure of materials, and synthesizing the composite and intermetallic compound in situ. In the present paper, the results of FSP process for die casting aluminium alloy grade AK64 are presented. The investigations have covered the determination of the influence of conditions of FSP process on heat generation in the stir zone as well as the torque action on the tool. The results have revealed that the increase in rotational speed of a tool causes the decrease in torque and heat generation in the stir zone. Simultaneously, the results indicated that the increase in traveling speed of tool causes increase in torque and heat generation. The metallographic examination of modified surfaces has shown that penetration depth of shoulder depends, to a large extent, on the rotation speed and, to the smaller extent, on traveling speed.

The aim of the article is to determine the relationship between the level of internationalization of food industry sectors and their economic and financial results. Unpublished CSO data for the years 2000-2017 were used. The data concerned the processing of fish, milk, meat, fruit and vegetables, beverage production, bakery and flour products, oils and fats, grain mill products, starches and starch products, ready-made feed and animal feed. To conduct the analysis, the internationalization intensity index calculated for individual food sectors was used. The analyzed sectors of the food industry were divided into 3 groups according to the intensity of internationalization. The most internationalized sectors were fish processing and the production of tobacco products, and the least internationalized sectors were milk and meat processing. In the next step, selected groups were compared in terms of economic and financial indicators. In order to confirm the statistical significance of the diagnosed differences, the Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test was used. The research confirmed that the increase in the internationalization of the food industry sectors mainly affects indicators related to the labor factor, technical progress and asset productivity.
Celem artykułu jest określenie zależności między poziomem internacjonalizacji sektorów przemysłu spożywczego a ich wynikami ekonomiczno-finansowymi. Wykorzystano niepublikowane dane GUS za lata 2000-2017, dotyczące przetwórstwa mleka, mięsa, owoców i warzyw, ryb oraz produkcji wyrobów tytoniowych, wyrobów piekarskich i mącznych, produktów przemiału zbóż, skrobi i wyrobów skrobiowych, olejów i tłuszczów, napojów, gotowych pasz i karmy dla zwierząt. Do przeprowadzenia analizy wykorzystano wskaźnik intensywności internacjonalizacji wyliczony dla poszczególnych sektorów spożywczych. Badane sektory przemysłu spożywczego podzielono na 3 grupy według intensywności umiędzynarodowienia. Najbardziej umiędzynarodowionym sektorem okazały się sektory przetwórstwa ryb oraz produkcji wyrobów tytoniowych, a najmniej umiędzynarodowionymi –przetwórstwo mleka i mięsa. Następnie porównano wyodrębnione grupy pod względem wskaźników ekonomiczno-finansowych. W celu potwierdzenia istotności statystycznej zdiagnozowanych różnic wykorzystano test sumy rang Kruskala-Wallisa. Badania potwierdziły, że wzrost internacjonalizacji sektorów przemysłu spożywczego wpływa głównie na wskaźniki związane z czynnikiem pracy, postępem technicznym oraz produktywnością majątku.

In this paper I compare inter-thread communication methods: blocking queue and LMAX Disruptor without synchronization according to a number of threads (CPU cores) and consumer rate. The research is carried out using a multiprocessor machine with Non Uniformed Memory and Oracle Java Runtime Environment. I determine if processing on many multi-core CPUs with NUMA is faster than on single multi- core CPU or vice versa.

A bauxite ore from Um Bogma, Southwestern Sinai, Egypt was mineralogically characterized. It contains 70% gibbsite, 13.2% quartz and 11.0% kaolinite. Beneficiation of the ore reduced the quartz content to 2.4%. Hydrometallurgical processing of the beneficiated gibbsitic bauxite was performed by hot leaching with sodium carbonate and lime in an attritor. Aluminium was converted to soluble sodium aluminate low in SiO2 (<0.1%) and the recovery was over 95% for a short leaching duration of 30 minutes at 90 °C. The residue was essentially composed of calcium silicate.

In Persian, a construction exists in which a gap can optionally be replaced by an overt pronoun. A self-paced reading study (110 participants) suggests that the overt pronoun results in deeper encoding (higher activation) of the antecedent noun, presumably because of richer retrieval cue specifications during antecedent retrieval at the pronoun; this higher activation has the consequence that the antecedent is easier to retrieve at a subsequent stage. This provides new evidence for reactivation effects of the type assumed in the cue-based retrieval model of parsing (Lewis and Vasishth 2005), and shows that dependency resolution is not simply a matter of connecting two codependents; the retrieval cue specification has a differential impast on processing.

Abstract: In visual information processing, two kinds of vision are distinguished: vision-for-perception related to the conscious identifi cation of objects, and vision-for-action that deals with visual control of movements. Neuroscience suggests that these two functions are performed by two separate brain neural systems – the ventral and dorsal pathways (Milner and Goodale, 1995). Two experiments using behavioural measures were conducted with the objective of exploring any potential interaction between these two functions of vision. The aim was to combine in one task methods allowing for the simultaneous capture of both perceptual global processing and affordance extraction and to check whether they infi uence each other. This aim was achieved by employing the paradigms of Navon (1977) and Tucker and Ellis (1998). A compound fi gure was created made up of objects with handles that might or might not have orientation congruent between levels. The results revealed that while the affordance effect occurred every time, the Navon effect appeared only when subjects focused their attention on object elements responsible for inconsistence within compound fi gure. Most importantly, even when these two effects occurred at once, they had no effect on each other. Results from the study failed to confi rm the hypothesis about interaction and gives support to the view that vision-for-perception and vision-for-action tend to act as separate systems.

In article a digital system for high resolution infrared camera control and image processing is described. The camera is built with use of bolometric focal plane array of size 640 by 480 detectors. Designed module controls the microbolometer Focal Plane Array (FPA), performs non-uniformity correction, bad pixel mapping and controls the process of displaying the thermal image. The system was designed in such a way, that signal processing algorithms, needed for specific tasks, can be implemented in it without hardware modifications. It was achieved by the application of a FPGA device and microprocessor unit, which both can be re-programmed inside the system. This scientific work is funded as a development project from science funds for years 2009-2011.
W artykule opisano uniwersalny cyfrowy system sterowania i przetwarzania dla kamery termowizyjnej z matrycowym detektorem bolometrycznym rejestrującym promieniowanie w zakresie widmowym w przedziale 8÷12 μm. Najważniejszym zadaniem systemu jest odczytanie sygnałów z poszczególnych detektorów matrycy oraz korekcja wartości wzmocnienia i napięcia przesunięcia charakterystyki czułości dla każdego detektora matrycy. Następnym zadaniem jest przetworzenie analogowych sygnałów z matrycy na postać cyfrową i ich zamiana na obraz termiczny. Dane odczytane z matrycy są przekazywane do następnych modułów kamery termowizyjnej za pomocą magistrali danych obrazowych. Układ sterowania odczytem jest ponadto wyposażony w magistralę sterowania za pomocą, której można ustawić parametry generowanych sygnałów dla matrycy mikrobolometrycznej. Parametry, które mogą podlegać zmianie to liczba obrazów odczytywanych w ciągu sekundy oraz czas całkowania sygnału z detektorów. W kolejnych modułach przetwarzania obrazu dokonywane są operacje takie jak np. korekcja niejednorodności detektorów matrycy, wykrywanie i usuwanie wadliwych pikseli, zaawansowane metody poprawy jakości obrazu, metody wspomagające wykrywanie i identyfikację obiektów. Dzięki zastosowanej architektury systemu możliwa jest adaptacyjna zmiana działania systemu bez konieczności stosowania znaczących zmian sprzętowych. Praca naukowa finansowana ze środków na naukę w latach 2009-2011 jako projekt rozwojowy.

In this paper, we propose a distributed system for point cloud processing and transferring them via computer network regarding to effectiveness-related requirements. We discuss the comparison of point cloud filters focusing on their usage for streaming optimization. For the filtering step of the stream pipeline processing we evaluate four filters: Voxel Grid, Radial Outliner Remover, Statistical Outlier Removal and Pass Through. For each of the filters we perform a series of tests for evaluating the impact on the point cloud size and transmitting frequency (analysed for various fps ratio). We present results of the optimization process used for point cloud consolidation in a distributed environment. We describe the processing of the point clouds before and after the transmission. Pre- and post-processing allow the user to send the cloud via network without any delays. The proposed pre-processing compression of the cloud and the post-processing reconstruction of it are focused on assuring that the end-user application obtains the cloud with a given precision.

In the field of text mining, many novel feature extraction approaches have been propounded. The following research paper is based on a novel feature extraction algorithm. In this paper, to formulate this approach, a weighted graph mining has been used to ensure the effectiveness of the feature extraction and computational efficiency; only the most effective graphs representing the maximum number of triangles based on a predefined relational criterion have been considered. The proposed novel technique is an amalgamation of the relation between words surrounding an aspect of the product and the lexicon-based connection among those words, which creates a relational triangle. A maximum number of a triangle covering an element has been accounted as a prime feature. The proposed algorithm performs more than three times better than TF-IDF within a limited set of data in analysis based on domain-specific data.

This article is an attempt to show the richness of the phenomenon of storytelling as a narrative processed by deep brain structures due to the content conveyed in a fictional way, in the form of a story that gives the message more distinctive and persuasive power. Since information processing is a key phase in the process of gathering information and indirectly remembering it, both cognitive processes will also be characterized in terms of their acceleration by adapting the guidelines of neuroscience to create brain-friendly content. When explaining the mechanism behind the effectiveness of storytelling, two clues should be indicated. The first one refers to neuropsychology and the second to the discoveries of cognitive psychology, especially research on the properties of cognitive patterns and some theories of persuasion. In this article, the author will follow the first of the two indicated leads.

Studies on the oligosaccharides content, raffinose and stachyose in the bean seeds were carried out and the effect of soaking and cooking on their content in four varieties of bean cultivated for dry seeds was examined. Protein and dry matter losses during processing were also evaluated. It was found that the bean soaking and cooking in water resulted in a reduction of raffinose and stachyose content in the seeds up to 50% and of protein up to 10%. Protein losses at increasing soaking temperature were inversely proportional to the protein losses during subsequent cooking of the bean.
Przeprowadzono badania nad wpływem moczenia i gotowania nasion na zawartość oligosacharydów, rafinozy oraz stachiozy w 4 polskich odmianach fasoli uprawianej na suche ziarno: Piękny Jaś, Biała Wyborowa, Słowianka i Igołomska. Określono również wpływ temperatury moczenia: 20, 30 i 40°C oraz dalszego gotowania na straty białka i suchej masy w fasoli. Zawartość rafinozy w nasionach suchych wahała się - zależnie od odmiany - od 0,24 do 0,70%, a stachiozy od 2,00 do 2,50%. Stopień ekstrakcji tych cukrów z nasion w czasie moczenia i gotowania zależał od odmiany fasoli i sięgał 50°/o wyjściowej zawartości tych cukrów (tab. 1). Wzrost temperatury moczenia wpływał na wyższe straty białka i suchej masy. Straty białka wahały się od 0,89 do 10,74% (tab. 2), a suchej masy od 0,69 do 12,12% (tab. 3). Straty białka przy wzroście temperatury moczenia nasion niektórych odmian fasoli były odwrotnie proporcjonalne do wielkości strat białka w czasie dalszego gotowania.

The paper presents an algorithm for determining parameters of single sinusoidal components contained in the analyzed digital signal with the use of a small number of mathematical operations. The proposed algorithm can be applied, among others, in measuring devices to monitor basic parameters of electric energy quality as well as in devices used to determine the phasor in the power system. The proposed simplification of the algorithm for determining the sinusoidal components of the analyzed signal allows to use it in embedded devices with low computing power, which translates into lower cost of construction of devices of this type, while maintaining full functionality of the measuring system. The article contains a mathematical argument, which leads to the proposed algorithm, then the optimization of the number of performed mathematical operations is presented. The last part of the paper includes information about performed mathematical operations and presents exemplary times of execution of the algorithm for simple embedded devices.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the changes in the carbon/nitrogen ratio as a result of different natural methods of sewage sludge treatment from two municipal wastewater treatment plants. The sludge from the first treatment plant was poured into two lagoons, one covered with reed and the other with willow and a field with Californian earthworms. The sludge from the second treatment plant was composted with sawdust. The sludge processed with each method was simultaneously subjected to Effective Microorganisms. The samples of processed sludge from both treatment plants were collected three times. In the first one, after five weeks, four months and ten months from the beginning of treatment. The material from the second treatment plant was composted after four, ten weeks and a year of composting. In the samples taken, the total nitrogen content was determined by means of the Kjeldahl method. The determination of the organic carbon content was carried out on a TOC analyser. The C:N ratio was then calculated. It was found that the changes in the C:N ratio depended on the duration of individual processes, and to a lesser extent on the way they were processed. The carbon content during sludge processing increased or remained at a similar level and the nitrogen content decreased with time of their processing, regardless of the EM addition. The addition of Effective Microorganisms to the sludge treatment reduced the C:N ratio in the first period of time and increased this ratio to the optimal value after 10 months or a year. The best technology for sludge processing appeared to be the technology of heap composting with sawdust and with aeration. The ten-week compost had a suitable C/N ratio for use in lawn production.

The construct of the organization of information processing (OIP) has been adopted as a possible cognitive mechanism responsible for human intelligent functioning. Participants (N = 77) were asked to solve an analogical reasoning task, a test of divided attention, a working memory capacity test, and Raven’s Advanced Progressive Matrices as a standard test of general fl uid intelligence. On the basis of the chronometric analysis of their performance in the analogy task, participants were divided into those preferring to use parallel or sequential modes of organization of information processing. It appeared that intelligent people using the parallel mode of processing obtained the best results in the analogical reasoning test. Other subgroups did not differ substantially from one another. It also appeared that intelligent people using the parallel mode of processing performed equally well regardless of their attentional resources and working memory capacity, whereas people using the sequential mode of processing were much more dependent on these basic cognitive limitations. A compensatory mechanism is suggested in order to account for this data: the parallel mode of processing probably helps to compensate for defi cient attention or impaired working memory, whereas the sequential mode cannot act in a compensatory way.

Reliable, remote pulse rate measurement is potentially very important for medical diagnostics and screening. In this paper the Videoplethysmography was analyzed especially to verify the possible use of signals obtained for the YUV color model in order to estimate the pulse rate, to examine what is the best pulse estimation method for short video sequences and finally, to analyze how potential PPG-signals can be distinguished from other (e.g. background) signals. The presented methods were verified using data collected from 60 volunteers.

The objective of this article is to present materials and technology for the manufacture of vascular stents with appropriate design requirements. The use of the right material is very important in implantology. A biomaterial introduced into the circulatory system must be biocompatible and hemocompatible. At the same time, it should not initiate toxic, mutagenic, or immunological reactions. Currently, 316L stainless steel (316L SS), nitinol (Ni-Ti alloy) and cobalt-chromium alloy (Co-Cr) are used as standard stent materials. Additionally, drug-containing coatings are used to provide antithrombotic properties. Nowadays, scientists are trying to create biodegradable stents (BDS) using magnesium (Mg) or zinc (Zn) alloys. Laser methods are generally used to manufacture stents using Nd:YAG lasers with a pulse length in the range of several milliseconds. Material removal is based on the ejection of the melt using a high-pressure gas. The result is remelting and heat-affected zones. Various post-processing procedures are necessary to remove residues, including etching and electropolishing. Minimizing the heat-affected zone could be achieved by using femtosecond lasers. Additionally, immersion of the material in water prevents the deposition of residues on the workpiece. Interesting alternatives used in the manufacture of vascular stents are electrospinning or additive techniques. 3D printing enables obtaining of geometrically complex and personalized implants and reduces the consumption of materials and the production of waste.

In order to design a stable and reliable voice communication system, it is essential to know how many resources are necessary for conveying quality content. These parameters may include objective quality of service (QoS) metrics, such as: available bandwidth, bit error rate (BER), delay, latency as well as subjective quality of experience (QoE) related to user expectations. QoE is expressed as clarity of speech and the ability to interpret voice commands with adequate mean opinion score (MOS) grades. This paper describes a quality evaluation study of a two-way speech transmission system via bandwidth over power line – power line communication (BPL-PLC) technology in an operating underground mine. We investigate how different features of the available wired medium can affect end-user quality. The results of the described study include: two types of coupling (capacitive and inductive), two transmission modes (mode 1 and 11), and four language sets of speech samples (American English, British English, German, and Polish) encoded at three different bit rates (8, 16, and 24 kbps). Our findings can aid both researchers working on low-bit rate coding and compression, signal processing and speech perception, as well as professionals active in the mining and oil industry.

Dzięki dynamicznemu rozwojowi przemysł naftowy przez ostatnich kilka dekad wypracował bardzo złożone technologie rozpoznawania warstw skorupy ziemskiej. Centra badawczo-rozwojowe inwestują w rozwój zaawansowanych platform programistyczno-algorytmicznych służących rozpoznawaniu geologicznemu na podstawie danych sejsmicznych. Jedną z takich platform jest Omega, rozwijana przez firmę Schlumberger. Ta bardzo rozbudowana platforma, pod względem informatycznym i geofizycznym, jest stosowana głównie przez duże firmy w celu uzyskania wiarygodnej informacji geologicznej. Umożliwia także tworzenie rozbudowanych drzew algorytmicznych, mogących zawierać zarówno proste, jak i bardzo skomplikowane technologie i procesy. Doświadczony geofizyk-programista poprzez dedykowane programowanie i przetwarzanie danych sejsmicznych obrazuje struktury, mapy spękań skał oraz tworzy zbiory do dalszych analiz i interpretacji geologiczno-petrograficznych. Artykuł przedstawia zarys rozwoju i działania wspomnianej technologii oraz przykładowe wyniki.
Due to the dynamic development, the oil industry has created very complex technologies for the earth’s crust exploration. The exploration based on seismic data analysis has been specifically excelled in R&D centers. Programming-processing platforms allow geophysicists to build algorithmic trees and process the data using advanced algorithms. One of such platforms is Omega, Schlumberger product. This complex processing environment is mainly used by large companies that want to obtain reliable geological information. An experienced geophysicist-programmer provides images of the earth’s structure, using dedicated algorithms and processing software, in order to obtain the best possible results for further analysis and interpretations. The article presents an outline of the aforementioned technology development and its results.

The newly discovered Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene KRR1 (YCL059c) encodes a protein essential for cell viability. Krr1p contains a motif of clustered basic amino acids highly conserved in the evolutionarly distant species from yeast to human. We demonstrate that Krr1p is localized in the nucleolus. The KRR1 gene is highly expressed in dividing cells and its expression ceases almost completely when cells enter the stationary phase. In vivo depletion of Krr1p leads to drastic reduction of 40S ribosomal subunits due to defective 18S rRNA synthesis. We propose that Krr1p is required for proper processing of pre-rRNA and the assembly of preribosomal 40S subunits.

Opis:
In this paper, a high performance, configurable, compact hardware architecture for computing the histogram of oriented gradients (HoG) descriptors is presented. The descriptor computation algorithm is simplified w.r.t. to the original solution, enabling hardware resource cost reduction with only a small accuracy penalty. The proposed architecture can be accommodated to different block sizes and different block grid configurations, enabling its use in a wide range of object detection and recognition tasks with varying region of interest sizes. The resulting architecture is systolic and massively parallel, enabling high throughput processing.

Together with the criticism of Comprehension Approach, there appeared a tendency to look at listening comprehension from the point of view of the underlying processes, rather than its product (Field 2008). It has been considered one of the fundamental flaws of the approach to focus only on the final outcome of the listening process in the form of answers to comprehension questions or task responses. The article provides an overview of the processes that listening comprehension entails, categorizing them into two distinctive groups. Also, different types of processing are investigated and the primacy of bottom-up processes is underlined.

Opis:
Hearing impairment is the factor influencing individual experience and development. However, as it influences the identity development, it might also impact the temporal processes. The article analyses the three levels of psychological time in the context of contemporary research. The results are discussed in the frame of particularly crucial factors such as communication, language and culture. Temporal perspective is described in the context of world representation understood as a system of knowledge comprising an individual’s beliefs. This system, which plays a regulative role in making choices, building attitudes towards the real world and solving problems, develops as the individual gains experience. However, hearing-impaired adolescents concentrate on the present events more than their hearing peers.

Opis:
R&D studies in the field of radiation technology in Poland are mostly concentrated at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT). The results of the INCT works on polymer and semiconductor modification have been implemented in various branches of national economy, particularly in industry and medicine. Radiation technology for polymer modification was implemented in the middle of the 1970-ties. Among others, the processes of irradiation and heat shrinkable products expansion have been developed. The transfer of this technology to Polish industry was performed in the middle of the 1980-ties. The present study aims at the formulation of new PE composites better suited to new generation of heat shrinkable products, for example, a new generation of hot-melt adhesives has been developed to meet specific requirements of customers. Modified polypropylene was used for the production of medical devices sterilized by radiation, especially disposable syringes, to overcome the low radiation resistance of the basic material. Modified polypropylene (PP-M) has been formulated at the INCT to provide material suitable for medical application and radiation sterilization process. Modification of semiconductor devices by EB was applied on an industrial scale since 1978 when the INCT and the LAMINA semiconductor factory successfully adopted that technology to improve specific semiconductor devices. This activity is continued on commercial basis where the INCT facilities served to contract irradiation of certain semiconductor devices according to the manufacturing program of the Polish factory and customers from abroad.

Measurements of radon progeny concentration in air by a radon progeny monitor are sensitive to the concentration of particles suspended in air. Minimum detectable concentration and accuracy of the measurement are determined by random errors of the monitor. Multivariate data processing can be used to decrease these random errors. Influence of aerosol concentration on the measured results of radon progeny concentration in air, by an RGR-30 mining radiometer, operating on the principle of alpha radiation detection from radon progeny deposited on an air filter, were determined in a radon chamber experiment. The air suspended particle concentration and the radon concentration in the radon chamber were controlled and the corresponding radon progeny concentration was measured by the radon progeny monitor. Additionally, count rate from the monitor detector, originating from the alpha activity deposited on the air filter, was measured at intervals of one minute and was then used for the three-interval, and Principal Component Regression (PCR) data processing. It was found that for the aerosol concentration in air from 40 p/cm3 to approximately 9,000 p/cm3 indications of the radon progeny monitor depends considerably on the aerosol concentration. Radon daughter concentration normalized to the radon concentration against aerosol concentration varied from 0.3 to 0.9. In mines, where the aerosol concentration generally is high, this phenomenon has little effect on the indication of the radon progeny monitor. At low aerosols concentration, appropriate correction of radon progeny concentration has to be taken. Comparison of random errors when measured signal of the monitor (count rate against time) was processed employing the three-interval method and PCR data processing shows that PCR ensures a lower random error.

Detecting defects in adhesively bonded joints, using active thermography methods is very promising NDT testing method. In many cases, tests are made with agreed conditions, where a test object is always in specific place of IR camera view. Although, for needs of industry, system should be able to adjust Region of Interest in order to prevailing conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate method for this task. The paper describe one of the easiest attempt to separate foreground of an IR image sequence acquired by Lock-In Thermography (LT) and Pulse Thermography (PT). Proposed approach is based on segmentation and morphological operations. The IR image sequences of 11 various samples were used for this task. Obtained results show that elaborated technique of foreground object extraction is possible.

There is a consensus in signal processing that the Gaussian kernel and its partial derivatives enable the development of robust algorithms for feature detection. Fourier analysis and convolution theory have a central role in such development. In this paper, we collect theoretical elements to follow this avenue but using the q-Gaussian kernel that is a nonextensive generalization of the Gaussian one. Firstly, we review the one-dimensional q-Gaussian and its Fourier transform. Then, we consider the two-dimensional q-Gaussian and we highlight the issues behind its analytical Fourier transform computation. In the computational experiments, we analyze the q-Gaussian kernel in the space and Fourier domains using the concepts of space window, cut-o frequency, and the Heisenberg inequality.

The article deals with the issue of controlling the autonomous mobile systems. Considered are problems focusing around the use of distributed architecture controllers. In contrary to hierarchical architecture, all layers of distributed controller are operating simultaneously, and have an access to both: the sensors (receptors), as well as to the executing systems (effectors) of controlled autonomous mobile system. Simultaneous operation of all layers of the distributed architecture controller entails arising of so called action selection problem. This problem consists in continuous taking of decisions: which one of the layers, or which layers of controller, at given moment should have an influence on the movement of controlled object. Discussed is the proposal of a new solution of this problem. Presented are results of experiments with the use of mobile robot.

In recent years the role of the surveillance and security of Polish boundaries has significantly increased. Polish coastal zone monitoring requires various approaches using various technological means in order to ensure the protection of Polish boundaries. In this paper, the authors discuss and present alternatives to underwater surveillance methods of coastal area analysis and monitoring using data retrieved from the newly developed and operational Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Sentinel-1 (ESA S-1) satellite. The authors discuss whether the proposed data source is a valid and reliable source of data that can be utilized in the current Polish coastline monitoring strategy and increase the safety of the country. A description of the various parameters concerning the data for the sea surface, sea objects and technical infrastructure are also discussed and presented.

The processing is burnishing one from the methods of processing finishing off the metals, depending on utilization the local plastic deformation, produced in top layer of object as a result of definite, meeting co-operation hard the and smooth tool from worked surface. The plastic deformations are called out by arrangement of strengths causing the superficial crossing the value of tension pressures of the making plastic material worked. Set them on cold causing except moving the unevenness also the cold work in top layer of worked object. The effect of moving ("flowing") the unevenness of surface, as a result of influence on worked surface smooth the and hard tool, it is the decrease of roughness of surface worked, however the effect the cold work - the principal change of property of top layer object. Phenomena these, though they step out the most often simultaneously, can have different intensity, according from demanded main effect of processing. It can be with main aim of applying processing the burnishing in technology of machines: the smoothness processing - the definite decrease the height not the equality of surface after previous processing burnishing; the strengthening processing - the producing of definite changes of physical properties of material in top layer of object, causing immunizing him on working such exploational factors how fatigue, abrasive waste, corrosion and different; the processing the dimensional - smoothness - the definite enlargement the dimension exactitude from simultaneous decrease to required value the roughness of surface. The determination of influence of technological parameters process burnishing on quality of surface of rolls from stainless and unalloyed steel is the aim of work.

Transportation works are important link of every production activity and they considerably affect the producing costs. The study present the analysis of working efficiency of transportation means using the example of meat processing factory. To solve the problem, the structure of transporting routes covered at analyzed works, number and localization of goods receive sites as well as the amounts and types of transportation means used must have been determined. Then the software making possible to evaluate the efficiency of transportation means work at a production facility was worked out. Calculations were performed using data from meat processing works in Górno. The work efficiency results for particular vehicles used to transport produced goods to shops were presented in a form of indicators in tables. Performed study revealed that mean amount ofcarriages under analyzed conditions was 0.492 t, average effective work time 1.39 h, average operative work time 6.5 h, mean uploading and unloading time 2.2 h. Average efficiency of transportation means during the effective time was 0.37 t/h, while during operative time 0.07 t/h, mean labor inputs 10.9 working hours, mean distance coveredwith no load 36.9 km, whereas with a load 69.3 km.

Opis:
An electrolysis process method for free-form blade surface finishing is proposed for a free-form surface impeller, and a stepwise method is used to process the inter-blade channel of the overall impeller. The forming cathode is then used to finish the blade to meet the blade processing requirements. In the design, the forming cathode structure was improved by using motion simulation software, and the flow field simulation software was used to simulate and analyze the cathode flow channel. The cathode shape and the electrolyte flow rate between the electrodes meet the processing requirements. In the process of processing experiments, the motion path of the cathode was analyzed and optimized. The effect of the feed direction on the uneven distribution of the blade machining gap was reduced through optimization, and highfrequency pulse power processing was used to reduce the machining gap and improve the machining accuracy of the blade. The experimental results show that the process scheme is feasible and the precision of the processed impeller free-form surface is significantly improved. The material is a monolithic turbine disk of high-temperature alloys, and its large twisted blade processing has always been a problem in the manufacturing industry.

In this paper, a DSP based computer system for FM-CW radar applications is described. Besides data acquisition and storage, the computer system will also be used for front-end data processing and system control. Processing includes filtering and clutter suppression. The radar for which the computer is designed is a multi parameter atmospheric profiler capable of doing Doppler and polarimetric measurements. The computer system will allow for a measurement of the full polarimetric scattering matrix over 512 range cells and 512 Doppler cells in 2 s. Radar system control includes the timing and the settings of the radar system together with linearity correction of the sweep oscillator.

In this paper we present two methods of binarization of corneal endothelial images. The binarization is a first step of advanced image analysis. Images of corneal endothelial obtained by the specular microscopy have a poor dynamic range and they are usually non-uniformly illuminated. The binarization endothelial images is not trivial. Two binarization algorithms are proposed. The output images are presented. The quality of algorithms is discussed.

Adverbial clauses of time are positioned either before or after their associated main clauses. This study aims to assess the importance of discourse-pragmatics and processing-related constraints on the positioning of adverbial clauses of time in research articles of applied linguistics written by authors for whom English is considered a native language. Previous research has revealed that the ordering is co-determined by various factors from the domains of semantics and discourse-pragmatics (bridging, iconicity, and subordinator) and language processing (deranking, length, and complexity). This research conducts a multifactorial analysis on the motivators of the positioning of adverbial clauses of time in 100 research articles of applied linguistics. The study will use a random forest of conditional inferencje trees as the statistical technique to measure the weights of the aforementioned variables. It was found that iconicity and bridging, chich are factors associated with discourse and semantics, are the two most salient predictors of clause ordering.

Opis:
The samples of the as-cast AM60 magnesium alloy were subjected to Friction Stir Processing (FSP). The effect of FSP on the microstructure of AM60 magnesium alloy was analyzed using optical microscopy and X-ray analysis. Besides, the investigation of selected properties, i.e. hardness and resistance to abrasion wear, were carried out. The carried out investigations showed that FSP leads to more homogeneous microstructure and significant grain refinement. The average grain size in the stirred zone (SZ) was about 6-9 μm. in the thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ), the elongated and deformed grains distributed along flow line were observed. The structural changes caused by FSP lead to an increase in microhardness and wear resistance of AM60 alloy in comparison to their non-treated equivalents. Preliminary results show that friction stir processing is a promising and an effective grain refinement technique.

This article addresses the skills involved in processing humour. Both adults and children enjoy puns, jokes, and riddles and employ humour in interaction with friends. Factors that contribute to understanding humour involve cognition, the ability to identify a speaker’s intent to convey humour, and the desire to engage in social interaction. Humour can be found in all countries across the globe, though cultural and linguistic differences may influence what listeners consider humorous. Moreover, some listeners have difficulty processing or understanding humour. The article also outlines studies investigating humour understanding and appreciation in relation to autistic spectrum disorders.
