Opis:
The aim of study was to investigate the relationship between proactive coping strategies and the dimensions of identity formation, along with the role of biological sex and psychological gender as moderators for this relationship. We conducted analyses aimed at showing differences in terms of identity dimensions levels and proactive coping strategies used by a group of individuals with different biological sex and psychological gender. A group of 101 students from upper secondary schools (47 females, 54 males) from Pomeranian Voivodeship took part in the study. We used in our research The Dimensions of Identity Development Scale; The Psychological Gender Inventory and The Proactive Coping Inventory for Adolescents. We found, among others, that in the case of a proactive strategy, biological sex turned out to be a significant moderator in the relationship between this variable and identity dimensions: ruminative exploration, commitment-making and identification with commitment. In the case of instrumental support seeking, psychological gender turned out to be a significant moderator for the relationship between these variables and a part of identity dimensions. The obtained results show that, regardless of whether young people, in terms of characteristics that are stereotypically associated with biological sex, are described as aschematic (undifferentiated individuals) or schematic (sex-typed) when entering adulthood and attempting to constitute themselves, more often cope in a task-oriented manner by trying to create a set of information useful in difficult situations and aspire to obtain informational support from individuals in one’s own social network, who are regarded as safe people.

The main goal of the study was to analyse the coping process during the first phase of organizational entrance. It was assumed that newcomer pre-entry experiences (e.g. previous unemployment) can influence adaptation process and individual well-being. Therefore the different groups of organizational newcomers (reemployed and after turnover) have been compared. Since demographic characteristics may also represent life experiences relevant to the work adaptation, previous job experience, age, and gender were included as control variables. This study analyse the psychosocial factors of work adaptation outcomes in the distinguished groups of participants (n=172). The results revealed negative effect of pre-entrance experience (e.g. previous unemployment) on proactive coping. Further, the proactive coping increased well-being among organizational newcomers, namely decreased emotional cost and perceived stress during the adaptation process in the new workplace.

According to ICAO regulations countries are obliged to prepare and implement State Safety Programmes. An aspiration to increase the level of safety in the aviation lead to evolution of thinking about the prevention from hazardous situation. It is more valuable for safety, when a person who had behave in a unacceptable way inadvertently or notice misstatement in the regulations report about that fact and alert the organisation about the danger than latent knowladge crucial for safety management in fear of consequences. Having the safety report organisation may change the procedures, recommendations oraz training programmes in the way to improve the safety. The proactive maintenance is an effective approach to enhance the system availability through real time monitoring the current state of a system. The key part of this method is forecasting the nonoperational states for advanced warning of the failure possibility that can bring the attention of machines operators and maintenance personnel to impending danger facilitate planning preventive and corrective operations, and resources managing as well. The paper presents the HMI/SCADA-type application used to support decision-making process. The proposed approach to proactive maintenance is based on forecasting the remaining useful life of device equipment and delivering the user-defined maintenance strategy developed during system operation. The HMI/SCADA application is used to collect data in form of failures history, changes of operational conditions and performances of a monitored process between failures, as well as heuristic knowledge about process created by experienced user. The data history is used to design the predictive fuzzy models of time between failures of system equipment. The fuzzy predictive models are designed using the genetic algorithm applied to optimize the fuzzy partitions covering the training data examples, as well as to identify fuzzy predictive patterns represented by a set of rules in the knowledge base. The evolutionary learning strategy, which has been proposed in this paper, provides the effective reproduction techniques for searching the solution space with respect to optimization of knowledge base and membership functions according to the fitness function expressed as a ratio of compatibility of fuzzy partitions with data examples to root mean squares error. The proposed application was created and tested on the laboratory stand for monitoring the availability of the overhead travelling crane.

Material handling systems, as an important part of different type of manufacturing processes, face the same challenges as manufacturing industries pushed nowadays forward by innovative ideas and technologies to the next level loudly announced as industry 4.0. Development of the next generation of automated manufacturing systems involves advanced approaches to material handling systems design and their close integration with the higher levels of manufacturing and production control and management, e.g. manufacturing execution systems (MES), enterprise resource planning (ERP). In the presence of increasing demands for manufacturing process optimization, the role of supervisory level of material handling systems is much more advanced today, ensuring not only data acquisition, visualization, monitoring, supervisory control, as well as synchronization with the higher control levels (FEM, ERP), but also providing functionality for supporting maintenance and decision-making processes to reduce downtimes, operations and maintenance costs. The article deals with the integration of control and maintenance functions in the hierarchical control system of a crane. The supervisory system for supporting control and proactive maintenance is prototyped at the laboratory overhead travelling crane. The article presents the controlmeasurement equipment and intelligent software tools implemented in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to aid decision-making process in proactive maintenance. The overview of the main components of the supervisory control and proactive maintenance subsystems is provided, and their respective role in control, supervision, and proactive maintenance is explained. The crane’s supervisory control includes the stereovision-based subsystem applied to identify the crane’s transportation workspace, determine the safety and time-optimal point-to-point trajectory of a payload. The proactive maintenance module consists of the human machine interface (HMI) supporting decision-making process, intelligent tools for upcoming downtime/ failure prediction, and the crane’s girder inspection using the metal magnetic memory technique.

The contemporary economic situation puts companies to the test in the form of turbulent changes that often lead to crisis situations in organisations. In such situations employees direct their sight to leaders, who are expected to know the solution to all problems. The holistic nature of the occurring phenomena, as well as their pace prevent the individual from counteracting the adverse changes. In such a situation it is indispensable to change the management model from the reactive into the proactive one, which is in turn the basis for the development of grass roots leaders, who are recruited from line employees. These leaders are employees who have a complete insight into tasks performed by them and a direct contact with problems that may arise at the point of contact with clients, suppliers, agents, etc., which enables them to take appropriate measures. Therefore, the most important issue is to develop in such persons the ability to make independent decisions and bear responsibility for them. In such a situation the three gears of leadership are helpful. The development of grass roots leaders results in taking full advantage of the chances that companies face in periods of prosperity and in preventing crises because of their appropriate and quick reaction.

Purpose – Self-employment is considered one of the responses to precarious employment, particularly among those who lost jobs during an economic crisis. Although starting a new business is widely available, operating new ventures remains challenging. This article aims to explore the premises of self-employment success, namely self-employment intention and proactive coping as crucial predictors of further performance. Design/methodology/approach – The authors recruited participants among initially unemployed individuals who participated in the entrepreneurial program aimed at creating self-employment. Since entrepreneurs are expected to have specific personal characteristics important for performance, the authors assessed proactive coping as the key factor for self-employment intention. Findings – The results depicted proactive coping as crucial in performing own ventures in the long run, which suggests that self-employment intention may change over time. Practical implications – Proactive coping is particularly appropriate for self-employed at any stage of the entrepreneurial process because it maintains the intention to perform own business. Thus, the findings underline the need for proactive coping training for entrepreneurs, particularly those previously unemployed. Originality/value – As the self-employment intention may differ in time, the importance of being proactive in operating small businesses increases.

The number of people suffering from type 2 diabetes has been growing recently. This chronic disease is connected with lower perceived quality of life and experiencing a lot of stressful situations. Some of these situations can be anticipated. Thus, it is possible to prepare oneself for future difficult situations by using proactive coping strategies. The aim of this research was to verify the level of satisfaction with various areas of life, the frequency of use of proactive coping strategies in the case of type 2 diabetes patients and healthy individuals, as well as mediation role of these strategies in the relationship between positive emotionality, cognitive curiosity and perceived quality of life. One hundred and seventy four persons took part in the research: 85 persons with diabetes and 89 healthy individuals. We used instruments with recognized psychometric properties: The Proactive Coping Inventory, The World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-BREF, PANAS Questionnaire and State-Trait Personality Inventory. The analysis of the results showed, among other things, that people suffering from type 2 diabetes are the least satisfied with their health, and the most with their treatment and knowledge about the disease. Healthy individuals are the most satisfied with the physical domain and one’s present life, whereas the least satisfied with the environmental domain. Both groups differ in terms of using proactive coping strategies. People with diabetes most often adopt a preventive strategy, whereas healthy individuals a reflective one. Two strategies turned out to be able to mediate in the relationship of positive emotionality and life satisfaction in the diabetes group. It was a strictly proactive and preventive coping strategy. No mediation effect was found in the group of healthy people. The results show that in the face of anticipated difficulties, people with type 2 diabetes try to protect their current resources by resorting to their existing knowledge, the level of which they are most satisfied with. The higher the positive emotionality/cognitive curiosity among people with type 2 diabetes, the higher their satisfaction with life, which is due to the fact, that they more frequently use proactive or preventive strategies to cope with stress.

In middle adulthood the intensity of stress is significantly higher than in the preceding developmental period. This stress is particularly significant in the case of chronically ill women, including those with type 2 diabetes. In this group, the disease-related stress intensifies the difficulties generated by the decrease of age-related organismic resources and in many instances impairs the quality of life. Therefore, an ability to cope with difficult situations is of crucial importance. The aim of the research was to estimate the general level of life-satisfaction, as well as the frequency and effectiveness of proactive coping strategies in a group of middle adulthood women with type 2 diabetes compared to women not suffering from diabetes. The study was conducted with methods which have acknowledged psychometric properties (SWLS, WHOQoL - BREF, PCI) as well as a survey collecting sociodemographic data. Women suffering from type 2 diabetes are less satisfied with their prior and current life, health and the physical dimension of their lives and environment. Only partially do they employ proactive coping strategies different from those used by the women from the healthy group. For life-satisfaction in its various aspects it is particularly important for the diabetic women to more often use the strategy of reflective coping and to less often seek emotional support while using the strategy of preventive coping or avoidance. The proactive strategies directed at anticipated stress are connected with the level of life-satisfaction and considered to be health resources.

The study involved 321 employees representing various sectors in Poland. The participants completed the Person–Supervisor Fit Scale, Proactive Behavior Scale, and the Unethical Behavior Questionnaire. Results show that a supplementary fit is weakly and positively related to proactive behavior but is not related to complementary fit. Surprisingly, supplementary fit is weakly but positively related to unethical behavior, while complementary fit from a needs–resources perspective is weakly and negatively associated with unethical behavior. Conclusions may be applied to organizational settings challenged by the problem of employee unethical behavior and their low proactivity in the context of person–supervisor congruence.

Redundancy based methods are proactive scheduling methods for solving the Project Scheduling Problem (PSP) with non-deterministic activities duration. The fundamental strategy of these methods is to estimate the activities duration by adding extra time to the original duration. The extra time allows to consider the risks that may affect the activities durations and to reduce the number of adjustments to the baseline generated for the project. In this article, four methods based on redundancies were proposed and compared from two robustness indicators. These indicators were calculated after running a simulation process. On the other hand, linear programming was applied as the solution technique to generate the baselines of 480 projects analyzed. Finally, the results obtained allowed to identify the most adequate method to solve the PSP with probabilistic activity duration and generate robust baselines.

Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of engineering systems are critical for the stable and reliable operation in various areas as mobile technology (primarily agricultural, forestry, mining and construction machinery), railways, airlines and large fleets. Thus, to achieve a satisfactory level of reliability for the life of a machine, proactive maintenance strategy is the only key. This means that the application of classical reliability methods suitable for components with sudden failures can be complemented by technical diagnostic methods which have the potential to provide the information about the system condition. In this article we focus on the diagnostic signal related to the used oil – tribodiagnostic measures and is an interesting theoretical item related to the evaluation of the quality of lubricants in the aspect of operation. This is because the oil is in direct contact with single parts of the assessed technical systems. Results tests were reviewed and derived from various parameters of lubricants and their limits that highlight the condition and state of the lubricants under varying categories which include, physiochemical, elemental (wear), contamination and additive analysis.

Opis:
Niniejszy artykuł stanowi przegląd psychologicznych koncepcji stresu i radzenia sobie. W pierwszej części zawarto charakterystykę klasycznych koncepcji stresu i aktywności zaradczej. W dalszej części opisano narzędzie badające poszczególne wymiary proaktywnego radzenia sobie – Kwestionariusz Reakcji na Codzienne Wydarzenia (The Proactive Coping Inventory – PCI).
Current paper provides a review of the psychological theories of stress and coping. The first part describes the classic concepts of stress and coping. According to the traditional approach in psychology stress is seen as a stimulus, a person’s reaction to a threatening factor, or as a result of interaction of both. The second part introduces an alternative concept, called – the proactive coping. This approach provides understanding of the stress situation in terms of challange. It stands in an opposition to classical (reactive) concepts in which stress is a synonym of danger. Following part gives a description of tool that measures the dimensions of proactive coping – the Proactive Coping Inventory (PCI).

Opis:
The severe consequences of climate change have left many unanswered questions about the environmental performance of businesses. Appropriate measures must be taken to tackle the problems conquered due to climate change. This study supports exploring the factors needed to get the Employees Environmental Performance (EEP). It includes Green Human Resources (GHR), Green Creativity (GC) and Proactive Environmental Management (PEM). The relationship among the variables was explored in the existing literature. This study aims to test the relationship between GHR and GC. Further, it also examined the mediating role of GC and moderating role of PEM. For this purpose, data were collected from employees of manufacturing companies (automobiles, food processing, chemicals, textiles, machinery and equipment) in India. More specifically, ISO 14001-certified companies were selected. Among the different institutions, 35 are manufacturing in India. Out of 35, 24 companies agreed to conduct a survey in their company. Totally 5376 employees were considered as a population for the study. With 95% confidence interval, 400 samples were selected, and a questionnaire was distributed among them using simple random sampling. 305 (76.25%) cases finalized for further analysis. The collected data analyzed using PLS-SEM with R software. The results highlighted the essential role of GHR practices in the manufacturing industry to enhance EEP since GHR positively influences EEP. Moreover, it was found that GC partially mediates the relationship between GHR and EEP. It indicates the importance of GC’s existence in increasing EEP through GHR. Finally, it was also found that PEM moderates the relationship between GHR and EEP. It suggested the role of pro-environmental management and their active pace in improving EEP. Managerial implications and future scope were discussed in this study.

Opis:
In this article, the author would like to refer to the possibility of increasing the level of happiness and reduce suffering through proactive attitude, outlook on life and a system of cognitive constructs that bear out the name of positivity. In the article the author continues to present proposals and clarify the precise definition of the term. The issue of positivity was discussed in the book by Barbara Frederickson “Positivity” and requires further development of theoretical and empirical research. This is not a new subject in psychology, as is in fact the central sphere of research undertaken in the fast-growing direction of positive psychology and therapeutic concepts and practices in the field of cognitive psychotherapy.

Opis:
Research background: There is a considerable amount of literature focused on customers' motivation to participate in cooperative new product development [NPD], but previous research neglected the suppliers' perspective concerning organizational mechanisms for the facilitation of customer involvement in cooperative new product development. Purpose of the article: The aim of the study is to explore the influence of two kinds of dynamic capabilities, proactive customer orientation [PCO] and joint learning capability [JLC] on the acceptance and use of machine to machine interaction [M2M] in collaborative innovation development [CID], from the supplier's perspective. Methods: The research is based on a case study carried out from June 2018 till June 2019 of a Polish automation integrator supplying a manufacturer of automotive equipment, i.e. automotive industry, in a fully robotized workstation. In order to understand how the company functions in this case, in-depth interviews with the company's employees have been conducted. Findings & Value added: The results revealed that intelligent devices, interacting machines, and real-time data transfer to the supplier may cause disruptions through their impact on establishing trustful business relationships. We believe our findings could have a profound impact on the way how proactive customer orientation and relational interactions supported knowledge sharing and joint learning sense-making through operational meetings and on-the-job workshops which role was to evaluate the collaborative project.
