I show the main mechanisms that led to victory rational thinking over mythology and religion in ancient Greece. I carry out far reaching analogies between the situation in ancient Greece between the eighth and sixth centuries BC and the situation in the Western world within the last several dozen of years. I have noticed similarities in changes concerning mentality, rationality, and keeping a distance from religion.

The article analyzes the concept of “Christian philosophy” from the perspective of its past and its future. First of all, there is revealed a multiplicity of senses and the meanings attributed to this concept. Their arrangement is one of the purposes of this text. Christian philosophy in the broad sense is a philosophy that permits indirect influences of Christianity; this is an idea created in Christian culture. However, strictly speaking Christian philosophy is a philosophy where we find an affirmative approach to the truth preached by Christianity. It is open to direct Christian inspiration. Twentieth-century revival of interest of religion in philosophy seems to foretell the future optimistically in the broad and narrow sense of Christian philosophy.

Opis:
The Hegelian philosophy of history constitutes the ideal picture of development of the world as the process of progress in realizing freedom. Ontological subject of history is the spirit of the world (Reason) based on freedom. History is self-reflection and selfaffirmation of the absolute spirit. The state is the social-historical, political and ethical condition of development of the mankind. The positive result of the world development assumes fulfilment of two following requirements: firstly, individuals should be governed by their own conscience and secondly, the world (state) along with its all social and political institutions should be organized and administered rationally. Thanks to fulfilment of these requirements, that is, thanks to the realization of freedom at its objective and subjective level, a development of the world will reach its culminating point. In this way also in Hegel, what J. Burckhardt proves, ‘we find the Enlightening science about the endeavour to attain perfection, and about the possibility of improvement or also about so-called progress’. Already in the first half of the XIXth century Hegel’s philosophy of history was also clearly reflected in Slovakia. First of all, the works of a prominent representative of Slovakian Hegelianism Ĺudovít Štúr (1815-1856) prove it. Similarly as Hegel also Štúr distinguishes three methods of historical research. They are as follows: ‘primitive history, understanding one and philosophical one’, but for the best method of historical dissertations he considers the philosophical method which is nothing else but only rational comprehension of history. Štúr not only cites or paraphrases individual Hegel’s views with avocation but also modifies them with the intention of using them for his needs, and he even creatively extrapolates them on the new ideological meaning planes connecting, first of all, with the problems of cultural and national life of Slavs and Slovaks. Štúr’s interpretation of Hegel’s philosophy of history is still relevant today in such a perspective despite the passage of time.

In this essay, I discuss a potential nexus for comparison between Hawaiian and Chinese philosophies grounded in what I call “terrestrial identity”. I bring Fei Xiaotong’s (1910–2005) description of the formation of social identity in China, which is historically agrarian and inalienably place-based, to meet contemporary Hawaiian philosophical perspectives of personal responsibility (kuleana), genealogical (moʻokūʻauhau) consciousness, and “seascape epistemology” (Ingersoll, 2016) to flesh out a new theory of relationality, one that includes the ontological, historical, and ethical relationship of humans to the land on which they orient themselves and that defines the circumstances of their lives. The concept of terrestrial identity is inclusive in terms of types of relational entities, accommodating place, space, and memory into a comprehensive social ontology. It also opens onto discussions of contemporary social problems in a way that centres place and contextuality. I will conclude this essay with such a discussion, regarding homelessness among Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians).

Friedrich Nietzsche is not generally regarded as a “first philosopher”, but rather as a radical critic of the traditional aspiration of philosophy to be a “master science”, in relation to which the other sciences are subordinate or dependent. In this respect, he seems to have had more in common with the logical positivists and post-structuralists who came after him than with the whole galaxy of “first philosophers” who preceded him, from Aristotle and John Duns Scotus to René Descartes, Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. However, in a famous aphorism in Beyond good and evil, Nietzsche proposes that psychology ought to be recognised as “queen of the sciences”, a traditional formula for first philosophy. Although this passage is well known, it is more often taken as a rhetorical flourish than as a serious statement of intent. In this article, I focus on the three aphorisms (BGE 20–22) that lead up to this statement. I argue that these aphorisms form an interconnected sequence, in which Nietzsche considers and rejects three traditional candidates for first philosophy — cosmology (BGE 20), theology (BGE 21) and general ontology (BGE 22). By rejecting these traditional candidates for first philosophy one by one, this sequence clears the way for Nietzsche’s proposal in BGE 23 that psychology ought to be recognised as the true candidate for first philosophy. These aphorisms, then, form a crucial sub-section in the developing argument of the book as a whole, which is far more systematically organised than Nietzsche’s aphoristic manner of writing would appear to suggest.

Opis:
The paper concerns Martin Buber’s idea of God as “eternal Thou”. This concept is typical of the dialogical phase of his philosophy. His inspiration came from religion (judaism and christianity). First of all, for Buber, God is a mystery. The main purpose of man was the entrance into the existential relationship with the revealing God, who was described as “eternal Thou”, “absolute Person” and “Ground of being”. A man can dialogue with Him through the different beings. Buber’s ideas are very close to panentheism. In Buber’s work we have the problem of the “becoming” God. The solution of this question is not on the ontological level but on the moral one – God “becomes” through the dialogical life of the man in the world.

The study is devoted to the general characteristics of philosophy. So it has a metaphilosophical character. In the author’s view, this study is a proposal to understand philosophy, its methods, and its relationship to science and worldview. The role of logic in the philosopher’s work is emphasized, but at the same time it is considered indispensable for a specifically understood speculative element.

Opis:
Hegel’s history of philosophy has irreplaceable place within the whole of his philosophizing and this fact grounds its philosophical importance. It has become the organ of the self-knowing mind in time as an integral component of philosophy of objective mind. Patočka was very precise with defining four main dimensions of Hegel’s philosophy of the history of philosophy: 1. The development of philosophy is organic. Different philosophies are different stages of the same organism development. 2. The role of individuality is subordinate; it does not belong to philosophical contents. 3. Time is but a mere external milieu, a mirror of inner development in the organism of mind. Philosophy and other aspects of mind in different periods are certain manifestations of the very same stage in the development of spiritual substance. Each historical period can be expressed rationally. Time thus doesn´t have positive, content meaning. 4. Advance of philosophical systems corresponds with the logical development of thought. The crucial core of Hegel’s philosophy of the history of philosophy as Patočka identified it couldn´t be even put forward in a better way. According to Patočka, Hegel is right that history of philosophy lives a life of systematic philosophy; it reflects our systematic nature, our tendency to system. History of philosophy and philosophy itself for Patočka, as well as for Hegel, create unity – a kind of organic totality.

The text sets out from the proposition that if Christianity still aspires to be present in contemporary culture and society, it has to change fundamentally; it has to abandon its claims to being “the only one” and to universal truthfulness. However, this immediately begs the question whether such a change is even possible. Can Christianity, while still remaining Christianity, can satisfy the demand of pluralism? Thus, on the one hand, the paper aims to interpret secularization as pluralization (drawing on the philosophy of Gianni Vattimo, for instance). On the other hand, it attempts to reflect on the fundamental premises of the Christian religion and, therefore, ask about the possible existence of a pluralistic religion (through reference to the writings of Leszek Kołakowski).

Political wisdom, judgement or genius do not stem from the spirit of science and is not the upshot of theoretical generalizations or learning. There is of course “political science” and “political philosophy” but politicians can properly act without them because it is neither the discovery of laws or generalizations in the field of politics nor “knowledge about political things” but “political sense” that is crucial for his actions. As Isaiah Berlin put it years ago: “What makes statesmen, like drivers of cars, successful is that they do not think in general terms – that is, they do not primarily ask themselves in what respect a given situation is like or unlike other situations in the long course of human history (which is what historical sociologists, or theologians in historical clothing, such as Vico or Toynbee, are fond of doing). Their merit is that they grasp the unique combination of characteristics that constitute this particular situation – this and no other. What they are said to be able to do is to understand the character of particular movement, of a particular individual, of a unique state of affairs, of unique atmosphere, of some particular combination of economic, political, personal factors; and we do not readily suppose that this capacity can literally be taught”. Therefore politics is not a quest for “general terms” or general features of political phenomena but a direct and individual insight into concrete reality. Being a politician takes not learning but talent, not expertise but intuition, not knowledge but sense; it takes looking not at general but the particular dimension of human actions. Politicians can be taunted for their posture as Napoleon, they can be uneducated as farmer George Washington or act against morality as Cardinal Richelieu but frankly speaking all these vices are unimportant in the political realm.

«The brain is not a place of memory storage» is the famous thesis proposed in chapter 2 of «Matter and memory». From this, Bergson demonstrates that memory exists independently of the brain, and that the quality of memory is intangible and spiritual. According to Bergson, the brain is only an instrument of the power of memory, and memory is a mind and a reality that exists independently of the brain. He denied the memory localization theory and argued the brain and memory for the whole brain theory. Well, what is the significance of his memory and his theory of the brain from the point of view of contemporary brain physiology? Are his memory and cerebral theory adapted to contempo- rary cerebral physiology? I want to conclude the confrontation between Bergson’s theory and contem- porary brain physiology by comparing the theories of Bergson and Wilder Penfield (1891-1979) who was the most famous brain surgeon in Canada. The conclusion is that dualism is transformed into monism by quantum theory, the idea of biocosmological association and my philosophy «Philosophy of nothingness and love» and that the new path of physiology and medicine opens.

Historian, humanist, physician and philosopher, must be seen and studied in the socio-political context of the time, although his work overcoming temporal barriers, leaving writings of great value to all who are interested in the study of the human person. He was a multidisciplinary scientist and an essayist and member of the Language Academies. Doctor of Medicine and a degree in Chemical Sciences. Doctor honoris causa by several Universities. His essays eventually led him from medicine to anthropology. He has authored many journalistic articles and more than forty essay books. Through the articulation between scientific knowledge and the most innovative impulses of contemporary philosophy, Laín Entralgo was able to keep the tradition of Spanish philosophy alive and prosperous and became a dedicated and vigorous teacher. Entralgo recognizes the intellectual debt he has with Xavier Zubiri, among others, but it is noteworthy that the former was able to autonomously pursue his line of thought.

E. Lévinas begins by considering that the Other reveals itself as the “distant”, where transcendence is ensured, then, the “philosopher of the Other”, to accept the Other as the next, affirming here transcendence. The Other is the one I meet - face to face - (facie ad faciem). The Other has a similarity with the “Un-valid”, on the way, in the street, (street man) of the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is the one who is helpless (Other) on the street and that the meeting in need, marginalized and treated by brother. According to Lévinas, the Face is the most expressive part of the Other. And it is in the Face that the other manifests as truly Another. It seems evident in the “philosophy of the Other” that it manifests itself in the Face. Who’s the other one? But, according to Levinas, transcendence would not be possible when the Other was initially the similar or the next. The effort of Lévinas that goes beyond considering the other just as the friend or relative. The Other arrives, confronts me with the “flip-flops,” facing me, as if he has all the rights to me, facing me regardless of my will or my adhesion to him. Inevitably, the Other presents me hostile, my friend, my teacher, my student, through my Idea of Infinity. It could be said that the Other (the next) is the man of the street, the man of the road (helpless), who passes, the first that arrives. The next as another, “says Lévinas,” does not allow himself to be preceded by any forerunner who would describe or announce his silhouette. Similarly, in the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Other is the man of the road - half-alive - (Jesus Christ), who was the first to be present because of the robbers (Luke 10:30). The Other is the “half-dead” on the side of the road of life. The Other is the first to appear, which falls into the hands of the robbers. The Other is the first to arrive. According to the parable of the Good Samaritan, the first who arrived, from the way from Jerusalem to Jericho, was the Other (represented symbolically in Jesus Christ).

In his essay “The Role of Philosophy in the History of Civilization” presented at the 6th International Philosophical Congress at Harvard in 1926, Gilson outlined three general trends among historians of philosophy. Some reduce the history of philosophy to study sources and find explanations of the philosophy beyond itself. Others try to go beyond the source of a given philosophy to find the original intuition that generates it. A third position, which Gilson espoused, is ahistorical. It depends neither on society nor on the creative genius of philosophers; it is simply truth. Systems of philosophy are uniquely conditioned by the necessary relations that link the ideas. If philosophies are expressions of an eternal truth, dominating men and societies, which discovers itself progressively by the mediation of philosophers, philosophy is transcendent with regard to every given state of civilization and the worth of a civilization depends upon the extent it participates in truth. Gilson’s conception of philosophy can go far in restoring Western civilization’s loss of confidence in human reason with its resulting pathologies and threats to human freedom today.

Human life is not possible without a community, i.e., in total isolation, however, one cannot also profess here another extreme view that reputedly man cannot find fulfilment without these relations, and what follows it, his life does not have to limit only to living with others, and also it does not restrict to functioning in the community. Since it turns out that both individualism and a personal life are equally essential here. One should also care about the personal life which not always has to be connected with co-existence with different individuals. However, for this view is essential to find suitable centering for both these attitudes and adopting this one which allows to develop fully. It is interesting that part of the experts on the subject who also try to make characteristics of the theoretical model believe that personalism in Mounier’s perspective cannot be perceived for Christian personalism, however, it assumes that Christianity is one of these elements which are indispensable to improve a social life.

Opis:
According to the author of the article, Christian anthropology is characterized by an affirmative approach to Christianity and personalism in the understanding of man. During the last century in Poland it faced four key challenges for its development which were: 1) searching for a proper model of social life connected with the rejection of individualism and collectivism; 2) the clash with collectivist totalitarianism (communism) which imposes an erroneous concept on man; 3) resignation of the Church in her teaching from the domination of the Thomistic model of understanding the world and man; 4) establishment of a naturalistic and transhumanistic model of man in the culture of the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Christian anthropology responded to the first three calls with a specific type of personalism: social – in the first case, metaphysical – in the second, liberalist and ethical – in the third. At present time, it must seek a personalistic response to the fourth challenge, while the author believes that Christian anthropology is threatened by fideistic personalism resulting from the acceptance of the naturalistic image of man coming from detailed sciences and the abandonment of attempts to philosophically justify his personal status.

Metaphilosophy as a research discipline is concerned with the overall metatheoretical reflection of philosophy on its own subject matter, assumptions, methodology, and goals guiding this form of human intellectual activity. The aim of this article is to present a cross-sectional analysis of the main stages in the historical development of this discipline, and offer a general characterization of the current state of research. The means to achieving this goal of study is a confrontation between two partly competitive and partly complementary paradigmatic approaches to metaphilosophical reflection which currently determine a relatively wide range of interests in this theoretically promising and heuristically fertile field of philosophical analysis.

In this paper I will give some provisional answers to the questions how one can be a Christian philosopher rather than just a philosopher who happens to be a Christian, how one can be a Reformation philosopher rather than just a Christian philosopher whohappens to be a Reformation Christian, and how one can be a Baptist philosopher rather than just a Reformation philosopher who happens to be a Baptist. A good way to be a philosopher is to, like Socrates, seek wisdom concerning spiritual good. A good wayto be a specifically Christian philosopher is to, like Augustine, seek that wisdom in Jesus Christ. A good way to be a specifically Reformation philosopher is to recognize and reflect on a distinction between two inseparable spiritual goods on which we are seeking wisdom: justification and sanctification. A good way to be a specifically Baptist philosopher, taking some inspiration from the likes of Locke and Kierkegaard, is to also recognize and reflect on some signs of these spiritual goods which Baptists emphasize: resistance to the idea of a state church and believer’s baptism.

The article examines how Hegel’s negative view of Byzantium is different from the Enlightenment’s critique and especially from Voltaire’s criticism of medieval history. In order to account for the Hegelian specificity of interpretation an effort is made to translate the chapter on Byzantium from the Philosophy of History in terms of the analysis of the Phenomenology of the Spirit and, more precisely, on the basis of the chapters on sensible certitude and on the domination and servitude. Considering that for Hegel every philosophical school possesses an autonomous value, one has to wonder why the Byzantine moment of the Spirit is destined to stagnation. The question about Hegel’s Neoplatonism, especially his affiliation with Proclus’s system, shows how the distance separating the Hegelian system from the Proclusian one explains the inadequacy of the latter as to drawing the consequences from the Byzantine spiritual stagnation.

The purpose of the paper is take a look from the perspective of the field theory of Pierre Bourdieu at the history of the Polish post-war philosophy with special attention given to the so-called Christian philosophy. In reference to Bourdieu’s research practice, the author postulates application of research strategies of the sociology of science/philosophy to historical and philosophical studies with a belief that they enhance the picture of philosophical dynamics of the past. From this point of view, the author focuses on relations between the field of Christian philosophy and the field of church authority, exposing the issue of philosophy’s autonomy.

The source of the following considerations is the observation that academic philosophy at universities does not fit well with philosophy education processes, e.g., those at school. Both sides seem to be separate from each other. I assume that the two areas rely on two very different concepts of philosophy. To work out a concept of philosophy more appropriate to the educational context, I methodically apply the practical turn to our philosophising in very different contexts. Moreover, I elaborate that it is precisely the modern scientific paradigm that underlies philosophy as scientific practice and that the former represents a problematic con-striction of philosophising in educational contexts. For where the ideal is objective scientific knowledge - from which everything subjective has been removed - there can be no deeper transformation of the subject through philosophy. My thesis is that philosophy is better suited to the educational context as transformative and not as scientific practice. As a consequence, the question arises as to whether the study of philosophy on teacher training courses needs a new impulse in the direction of philosophy as transformative practice.

One of the practical perspectives of personalism is economic personalism which is characterized, first of all, by adopting rules binding economy to human needs, expectations and capabilities. As a result, economy also becomes a completely different, decidedly more friendly field which is determined by several new conditions. With the help of personalism the individual is able to set his goals, define himself, his needs and establish tasks which he should place.. The feeling of exceptionality, uniqueness, and above all, the role which the given individual plays in the whole surrounding reality is also important here. Additionally, it allows to define characteristic features for the individual, evaluating his strengths and weaknesses, and it also allows to define the way one can improve himself and his achievements as well as develop incessantly and constantly strive for perfection. The fact that the individual is a connection between the material and immaterial world in personalism causes that he can feel exceptionally, he can realize that he is responsible both for himself and the others. Personalism also brings to our attention the necessity of overcoming our own fears against excessive integration and calls not to give our whole independence and integrality for the benefit of the community. It turns out that if the individual gives himself up, his independence and freedom of choice, he might bear numerous consequences which can influence his way of perception of reality, himself and his role in the world.

Słomski defining philosophy of the XXIst century recognizes that in order to understand it, it is necessary to define how those threats, resulted first of all from the technological progress and transformations caused by this progress, were defined earlier. Personalism in Słomski’s perspective is the compilation of various currents which deal with the individual and his relations with surroundings, and also these ones which say about the individual in the wider context. However, the key currents which made the largest impression on him are as follows: Christian thought, Marxism and existentialism. Słomski has drawn the biggest inspiration simply from them, and believed thereby that the whole truth was contained in those currents. The truth on how the individual should be perceived contemporarily and with what problems is supposed to cope, and thereby he is able to define which factors determine the individual and influence his situation, worldview, and the system of values which he is guided by in his life. According to Professor Słomski, the present personalism can be treated as a certain kind of a comprehensive philosophical system. However, its the most important task and aim is an attempt to give an answer to appearing more and more often new social problems on which one using philosophy, ethics or other sciences dealing with such issues so far cannot get the answer. It happens so mainly because along with the civilization progress, and the social development and undergoing global tendencies, social problems gain a completely new dimension which practically has not existed so far.

According to professor Słomski, personalism is a juxtaposition of many currents which simultaneously concern human being in every way, the meaning in the world around him, and relation with the surroundings. This is a certain kind of an innovatory approach because so far it was commonly believed that not every current concerning human being can be discussed in the context of personalism and not each of them adjusts to it. Additionally, Professor Słomski has emphasized in this way that personalism can be treated as one of the components of Christian philosophy and can determine its range. Moreover, for Wojciech Słomski all the premises creating contemporary personalism can be a cause for which it can be treated as a comprehensive, very essential philosophical system which a key task is a desire to get an answer to urgent questions and social issues appearing in the present world. The exceptionality of professor Słomski’s conception is contained, first of all, in the way of perception of personalism as a tool which makes possible getting the answer to questions appearing contemporarily. It happens so mainly because along with the civilization progress and social development, and undergoing global tendencies, social problems gain a completely new dimension which practically has not existed so far.

Chinese Communist monocultural policies, notably the re-education camps for the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, have recently been condemned for violating human rights. In response to critics, the Chinese Communist Party frequently replied that one should not impose Western concepts of democracy, liberty, and human rights on the Chinese people. Nevertheless, instead of introducing Western philosophies criticizing the current Chinese Communist monoculturalism; with the help of a modern reinterpretation of the Classic of Rites, this paper aims to construct a Confucian Multiculturalism and argues that: (1) the Classic of Rites explicitly warned against cultural assimilations of “barbarians” into the “civilized” Empire, (2) the Classic of Rites acknowledges cultural diversities, and (3) although the Classic of Rites does not explain clearly why the imperial court should tolerate cultural diversities, a Kantian reinterpretation of the Chinese concept of 敬 Jing implies the respects for minority rights. In doing so, this paper formulates Confucian Multiculturalism as a new model of the Chinese philosophy of culture which asserts cultural diversity.

In Hermias’ commentary on Phaedrus (In Platonis Phaedrum Scholia), it is possible to identify several direct references to the philosophers and pre-Socratic doctrines, including Pythagoras. We point out to three references to Pythagoras in Hermias: (1) Pythagoras is characterized as an unwritten philosopher, (2) there is a special connection with the divinities and Muses, and (3) there is a special connection with the Phaedrus dialogue, revealed by the affinity between Pythagoras and Socrates. We show how the explicit references to Pythagoras in Hermias constitute a certain method of interpreting Platonism: as a philosophy manifested in writing, but which, at the same time, values the unwritten tradition, represented especially by Pythagoras and Socrates. We also demonstrate how the references translated and examined here reveal the image of this Neoplatonic Pythagoras of Hermias, an image which is not necessarily in tune with the oldest doxography, and which permits the reevaluation of Plato’s position as a philosopher who sought to combine unwritten doctrines with his explicit activity as a writer.

Recently, the philosophy of Nishida has been studied internationally. However, there is not much reflection on the life and existence of Nishida. Even though in Japan there are biographies written by direct disciples and others, they lack consistent philosophical principles. I reveal the existence of Nishida from the point of view of my principle of nothingness and love. Nishida’s pure experi- ence is the intuitive nothingness and the flow of life which extends beyond subject and object. It is consistent with my nothingness as a reality that extends beyond the expression of words. Of course, it corresponds to the biological world view of the Biocosmologique Association. This nothingness continues to infinity, to eternity, to transcendent being and to love. This is what I call the principle of nothingness and love. From here, I consider the life and existence of Nishida based on the biographies of Hisashi Ueda, the grandson of Nishida, and the complete works of Nishida. This focuses primarily on the chronological description, but in some places my consideration overlaps with Aristotle’s life. In her forties, Nishida preferred Hegel but leaned over Aristotle in her fifties. Nishida wrote books “Philosophical Acts I–VII” by reading books of Aristotle. Aristotle became the driving force behind Nishida in his later years. After the death of his sick wife, Nishida’s daily life became awkward and hampered her studies. Nishida encountered nothingness as well as death. However, with the help of his second wife, Koto, he completed his philosophy. Aristotle’s wife also died of illness (nothingness as well as death), but his last wife supported him and gave birth to Nicomachus. It was the work and love of women that supported the two great philosophers.

The article discusses the problem of the christian concept of the human person in theological and philosophical context, and with reference to evolutionary sciences. It was pointed out that the naturalistic evolutionism undermines the most important assumptions (especially thesis proclaiming the unique status of human in nature), which is based on christian anthropology. In this paper it was also an attempt to justify that philosophical reflection can be important in the analysis of problems located between science and religion (among others the issue of the origin, nature and destiny of man). The question about new type of christian philosophy is a challenge in theology, which will be obliged – because of the changing image of the world and man – to modify its foundations, rooted mainly in the Thomistic metaphysics so far. Besides, in the context of issues relating to the meaning of human life it indicates that there is a need to develop such a philosophy, which is based on the achievements of natural science, and would be in dialogue with the contemporary humanities.

To understand the Socratic assertion that it is better to suffer injustice than to practice it, we must bear in mind that this was said against the Sophists. One of the interlocutors of Socrates had planned as an ideal the life of a tyrant, that is, of someone who can do what he wants, without any other consideration, and nothing can contradict him. For this sophist it is inconceivable that there are those who do not wish to be able to suffer others, as is possible. It would be unthinkable if he could impose his interests on others if he did not know. Hu- man excellence consists in your life, being without hindrance. Socrates considers that the sophist was mistaken about the tre nature of happiness, since the life of a tyrant is a miserable life, which nothing in his judgment should desire. A tyrant can not trust anything or anything. His life is based on power over others, and not receive from them a true recognition, not being able to expect any friendship. Rather you should take a lot of precautions to enter into a “likeness” relationship. The mutual reciprocity of friendship would shake the invulnerable core of his position. The tyrant can not and should not configure something like a confidence towards the world. For Socrates, justice is a kind of relationship with the world that enables mutual trust and abandonment. From here we can say that injustice causes discord and hatred, while justice brings harmony and friendship. Thus, not even the tyrant can be confident in himself. The will to live according to his desires makes him a slave to these desires, preventing him from acquiring a stable relationship with himself and thus makes it impossible for him to live as a friend of himself, that is, as a person who respects and protects Own well-understood interest. Ordinary life is for Plato the place of true happiness, where he can only be friends with himself, who is capable of being friends with others. But the friendship of others is only within reach of those who behave generally - in the face of those who are not friends - in such a way that they cultivate the form of a potentially friendly tract with others. Justice is that virtue that guides action in this common way of life. That is why Socrates can say that it is better to suffer injustice than to commit it. He who commits injustice destroys the foundations of his happiness, while the sufferer, in spite of adversity, does not lose the goals to achieve happiness. Here begins the sense of vulnerability, from ontology to phenomenology, through ethics.

Pascal also had the intuition of nothingness. Since it is too strong, from Job to King Solomon in the Bible and through the centuries, intuition continues. Job encountered mishaps, illnesses and lost his children. He had the intuition of nothingness as difficulties and obscurity. At the extremity of glory, reputation, and fortune, King Solomon lost sight of the truth and essence of life. He had the intuition of nothingness as emptiness and vanity. Pascal writes about these two people in "Thoughts". We must not let this description escape. He was assaulted by and suffered illness at the time of his childhood. His condition was like that of Job. The Pascal who left many good results in mathematics and physics is not recognized. It is a light and a shadow of Pascal. However, in the shadow he had the intuition of nothingness and Pascal developed a theory to treat of nothingness as the first principle in "Thoughts". Energy is needed to divide a particle. In order to subdivide a particle near the void, an energy close to infinity is necessary. The nothingness continues to infinity. This view is consistent with the author’s point of view. Moreover, Pascal preaches the world relativity of things, but it is extremely close to the thought of the Engi of Buddhism. This study is the development of Pascal’s thought.

Opis:
The post-modern era inherently include phenomena such as fashion and luxury. These two attributes are now being physical manifestation of human existence, uniqueness and individuality. Man has always wanted to like to be someone he wants to show, show. The theme of luxury is associated mainly with the outer material life, where one perceives their goods than, those being left in the priorities of the drive. Mark Twain once said that clothes make the man and the naked people have no or little impact on society. This is us today more than known. Many social experiments showed that people naturally behave prosociálnejšie to those who look decent, neat or clean. Many of us, and it’s natural to humans, respond primarily on appearance, not the inner being. The reason is, in my opinion, the so-called selfish gene that encourages a person internally to help and prosocial acted only on selected types of people - a stronger individual. The Selfish Gene just does not make the other prosocial behavior based on sympathy and appearance, this gene also determines the universal human values and preferences of external nature. Selfish gene transforms a person evaluates himself and also expects more out of life - beauty, wealth, success, all the fashion (Dawkins 2003, S.205). Fashion elements affect us in every area of life. Fashion in clothing, over eating, shopping, to the ordinary human relations. In this paper, among other things to look at contemporary forms of luxury and luxurious style of life which is closely linked to some kind of internal standard of living modern people and their values just changing under the influence of this phenomenon - luxury. The paper uses expressions such as luxury, extravagance and wealth that are the problem of luxury in postmoderne closely linked. I also attempt to answer questions regarding the harmfulness of the value orientation of man to the phenomenon of luxury and splendor.

The principle of Autonomy, according to Koenigsberg’s philosopher, will naturally be chosen only in such a way that the maxims of choice are simultaneously included in the same will as the universal law. That this practical rule is an imperative, that is to say that the Will of the whole rational being is necessarily bound to it as a condition, can not be demonstrated by the simple analysis of the concepts contained in it, since it is a proposition synthetic; it would be necessary to go beyond the knowledge of the objects and enter into a criticism of the subject, that is, of pure practical reason, since this synthetic proposition that orders apoditically must be able to recognize itself entirely a priori. By simple analysis of the concepts of morality, it can be shown very well, that the aforementioned principle of autonomy will be the only principle of morality. In this way, it is discovered that this principle has to be a “categorical imperative” and that it commands neither more nor less than precisely this doctrine.

The objective of this article is to provide an answer to the question as to how to philosophize within the context of science, which constitutes a more specific version of one of the essential metaphilosophical questions: how should one philosophize? A compelling answer to such inquiries was proposed at the end of the 20th century by the Cracow philosophers of nature and went under the name of „philosophy in science” research program. In this elaboration, on the basis of findings originating in the cosmological domain, I analyze to what extent this is indeed an innovative answer to the metaphilosophical question stated above – that is how to philosophize within the context of science.

This article is an attempt at comparative analysis of works of two representatives of the republican tradition, that is Immanuel Kant and Andrzej FryczModrzewski. This analysis is based on the following works: Perpetual peace, Doctrine of Right and On the Reform of the Republic. I will compare how both of the authors understand the notion of the republic and other notions such as law, freedom and general will. At the end of this paper I will show how the two republican traditions influenced today’s political reality.

Opis:
The notion of history of philosophy is initiated by Bocheński by presentation of the notion of history itself which, according to him for the fact of treating the past („that what happened”), has two meanings: subject meaning (past events) and object meaning (historiosophy). Both of them can be further divided into two parts: history of facts and history of doctrines. History of philosophy is a typical history of doctrines. The second element of the name „history of philosophy”- which is philosophy-is etymologically linked to wisdom, present in numerous meanings: in antiquity its was simply a synonim of science. In the Middle Ages we observe division of human knowledge to revealed knowledge and natural knowledge, the latter one, in its aspect of exploring the ultimate principles and causes is called philosophy. In modern times philosophy was questioned at all or the entire science was included in its scope. For that reason Bocheński establishes the set of topics which are constantly present in the history of philosophy and which can be classified as strictly philosophical issues. They are: 1) the question of cognition (can we cognize truth?); 2) the question of science; 3) ontological issues (universalities, existence or non-existence of plurality); 4) questions of relation of science and psychic; 5) axiological issues (ethics, esthetics, philosophy of religion); 6) the question of absolute (God, eternal matter). Bocheński stresses that questions proper to philosophy can not be classified as one of the science and, what is more, contemporary methodology of science will rather not change this situation. Striking in that presentation is the lack of issues regarding philosophy of being (existence, essence, substance, accidental properties, relations, causes) with little exemption of philosophy of being inc-luded in the question of absolute. When it comes to division of history of philosophy, we may say that according to Bocheński it should follow analogically the traditional division of the European history such as classic, medieval, modern and contemporary times
