Opis:
Crude oil and natural gas were in the twentieth century and are still the most important strategic resources, which determine many aspects of politics and the world economy. The price level and the availability of oil and gas has a huge impact on the economic situation of all countries of the world. The developments in the oil market were the cause of many wars. The use of oil on an industrial scale it was observed at the end of the nineteenth century and once was considered the most effective source of energy for universal use. Since then, a steady increase of its share in the energy balances of the World. Growing automotive industry in the early twentieth century was also an important factor in increasing the use of oil, which is then processed in many emerging refineries. All this led to the development of the oil industry, which has become an alternative to coal as the main fuel so far. However, a major breakthrough in the use of oil occurred only after the Second World War, when began to rapidly develop such industries as chemical-based oil or plastics industry. This article presents information on traditional and prospective areas where oil deposits in the world and its resources as well as international trade, price formation in the market and prospects of development of the oil market in the world.

Crude vegetable oil may be used to drive self-ignition engines adjusted to this fuel. The aim of this study was to perform a comparative analysis of selected properties of cold-pressed crude vegetable oils used as biofuels. Physico-chemical properties of rapeseed oil (RO), sunflower oil (SO) and corn oil (CO) were compared. Density, kinematic viscosity, flash point, cold filter plugging point, calorific value, content of water, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium in oil were determined. Kinematic viscosity curves of crude oils at temperatures from 5°C to 50°C were defined. The kinematic viscosity was the lowest for corn oil and the highest for sunflower oil.

The bio-oils are considered to sustainable, alternative and environmentally friendly source of lubricants compared to commercial engine oils, on the base a mineral, synthetic or semi-synthetic. They are obtained from natural raw material (vegetable or animal oils), which are renewable and non-toxic to humans, living organisms and environment. The vegetable oils called green oils, natural oils, bio-oils or natural esters. They can be obtained from plant seeds, that may be consumed – edible oils (for instance: rapeseed oil) or which cannot be consumed – inedible (for example: linseed oil). The conducted research into linseed oil and its different quantity additives (25% and 50%) to commercial marine mineral oil intended for a medium-speed 4-stroke, trunk marine engine (i.e. Marinol RG 1240). The flash point and dependence of viscosity and temperature were compared and assess. It has been proven that vegetable oils have a high ignition temperature and very small viscosity change in the range of temperatures presented, i.e. high viscosity index. According to the results, it can be recommended the addition of 25% linseed oil in the base lubricant is the relevant for lubricating a medium speed 4-stroke marine engine. The vegetable additives can improve a viscosity index a lube oil, and they will be positively affected environmental protection

Opis:
The current spill response capability in Finland is built to respond to oil spills caused by heavy fuel oils and the most transported oil cargoes. However, the implementation of the Sulphur Directive in 2015 changed the fuel profiles of the ships: prior to the new regulation ships operating in the Baltic Sea mainly used heavy fuel oil (HFO), whereas now ships use marine gas oil (MGO DMA) or marine diesel (MDO DMB) known as marine distillate fuels. This paper reviews the effectiveness of the current recovery techniques in responding to spills of marine distillate fuels based on the oil recovery field tests. The results indicate that conventional recovery techniques are only partially applicable to marine distillate fuels, which calls for a reassessment of the marine oil spill response capability and further research. The use and availability of low-carbon marine fuels will continue to increase as emission regulations become more stringent. This will require a continuous assessment of the oil recovery capabilities and the adaptation of spill response preparedness accordingly.

Computer simulations used for predicting the behavior of oil spills at sea allow optimizing the deployment of oil spill response personnel and resources, and using the backtracking method to identify the polluter in cases where spills are sighted some time after they occurred. Predicting the direction and speed of oil slick spreading is of fundamental importance. An attempt was made to verify the influence of selected simulation parameters, related to hydrometeorological conditions, on the behavior of the resulting oil pollution. Different responses were obtained under the same simulated weather conditions, depending on the type of spilled oil. The experiment was conducted on a PISCES II oil spill simulator.

The ability to use computer simulation to predict the behavior of oil spills at sea enables better use of available personnel and resources to combat such spills. The use of oil collecting equipment properly selected to suit the conditions is essential for the operation to be effective. Therefore, an attempt is made to verify the influence of weather conditions on the efficiency of oil recovery. Three types of spilled crude oil were simulated. A relevant experiment was conducted on a PISCES II oil spill simulator.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Oil is one of the commodities with the highest global demand and the largest trade volumes. It is useful both as a raw material tapped to produce other goods, and, when processed, as a commodity in its own right. The purpose of the article is to present the directions of impact of oil price changes on its trade and to analyse factors affecting crude oil prices in period 2014‑2015 in the context of quick decrease of prices started in 2014. These analyses are crucial since changes of oil prices cannot be only explained by supply and demand. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Research topics were formulated as questions: Who is responsible for the slump in the prices of the most important global energy source in the international raw material market? What events in the global market caused the slump in oil prices? Did the slump in oil prices increase oil trade in 2014 and 2015? The article is largely conceptual, based on literature surveys, the analysis of sources and statistical data, comparative analysis, and the descriptive method. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argument is composed of four basic parts. The first deals with the chief oil price-shaping mechanisms and their division into long-term and short-term drivers. The second outlines the situation in the global oil market in 2014. The third analyzes the causes of the slump in oil prices in 2014 and 2015. And, lastly, the fourth presents the possible impact of the slump on international oil trade. RESEARCH RESULTS: Chief price-shaping mechanisms in the oil market include: the supply-demand mechanism, global economic growth, OPEC policy, fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate, geopolitical events, and the effect of speculation. Even though it is not possible to determine the precise role of each of these factors in shaping the situation in the oil market in 2014/2015, it seems that the slump in prices was primarily caused by a boost in shale oil production in the United States and the OPEC’s “price war” strategy. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The situation in the global market in 2017 is likely to be influenced by the OPEC’s decision to reduce oil extraction taken at the summit in Vienna on 30 November 2016. From January 2017, production is to go down to 32.5 million barrels per day and the move is expected to stop the downward price trend. An increase in oil prices could already be noted the day after the decision; however, analysts doubt that the trend will last.

Opis:
An integrated model, which contains flow and transport‐fate modules, will be presented for simulating transport and fate of oil spills at seas. The flow module uses different kinds of meshes that provide great flexibility for modeling the flow in complex geometries of currents and barriers. The refined grid resolution in regions of interest is important. Horizontal diffusion is simulated using random walk techniques in a Monte Carlo framework, whereas the vertical diffusion process can be solved on the basis of the Langeven equation. The model contains the most significant processes which affect the motion of oil particles. For a better fit to the curvature of the coastline there are used unstructured non overlapping rectangular or triangle grid cells. Special attention must be paid to choose the horizontal and vertical resolution in simulating the oil trajectory in the coastal area.

At present, oil can be ranked among the most important fuels and energy minerals. In the majority of cases, primary recovery moves, however, merely in the range of 30-40% of original oil in place (geological reserves). But with deposits containing very viscous oil, percent recovery is much lower, i.e. from 5 to 10%, and the use of primary methods brings about only little economic effect. It is the application of so-called secondary and tertiary methods that enables the effective exploitation of reserves. In the submitted study, we present some results obtained by laboratory experiments with using polymers and surface-active agents in the displacement of highly viscous oil from reservoir rocks
Obecnie ropa naftowa należy do najważniejszych paliw i źródeł energii. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań laboratoryjnych nad wykorzystaniem polimerów i surfaktantów do zwiększenia produkcji ropy o dużej lepkości

Paper chromatography is a method that allows rapid assessment of the condition and identification of fuel, water and soot contaminants in engine oil. The paper contains an analysis of the suitability of rapid paper chromatography for assessing the operating quality of engine oil. It takes into account the comparison of physicochemical parameters by classical methods with the quality of commercial paper chromatography. The presented research allowed verifying the suitability of paper chromatography for laboratory evaluation of engine oil quality. It was found that a more extensive analysis of the oil condition is possible provided that the chromatographic separation time of oil dispensed onto filter paper is increased from 1 minute to 40 minutes. Linear relationships were observed between the surface area of the stain core after 40-minute separation and selected viscosity parameters (e.g. kinematic viscosity measured at 40°C). Based on rapid paper chromatography, it was found that reasonable decisions can be made about the quality of engine oil, and thus about replacement or further use of the oil.
