Opis:
Work cannot be separated from human life. Nowadays, the concept of work has been usually perceived only from an economic perspective as a factor of production process. Does acquiring the means of livelihood is the only value of human work? No doubt, it is a very basic goal, but not the only one. Besides this dimension, there are many other important aspects of human work. In the first part of my paper, I point out two possible understanding of the phenomenon of human work – an objective and a subjective one. The objective sense has to show haw men reign over the earth (material production). The subjective one emphasizes the dignity of human person (philosophical anthropology and ethics). According to Tischner it would be a mistake to take into account only the objective meaning of work, since the moral sense would have been omitted. In the second part, I will adduce the dangers to the proper understanding of human work which arise when one chooses the wrong concept of man (philosophical anthropology). In the philosophical understanding, work is a derivative of the accepted vision of man. In order to avoid the situation of objectifying of man (problem of reification), we should conceive him as a personal being who crates himself in the process of work. In the final part of my presentation, the phenomenon of work is discussed as a mean of improvement and perfection of human being which is done in cooperation with others. By the means of work man enters into relations with God, with the material world, with others (the social world) and with himself. By the above mentioned means she discovers the purpose of her life.

The article analyzes essential factors for Józef Tischner’s conception of aesthetic tragedy, namely enchantment and sedution. For Tischner, the aesthetic tragedy takes place in the realm of interpersonal relations. The article describes the discoverer of the beauty as the one who becomes aware of that he cannot appropriate the beauty discovered; nevertheless, he still hopes that there must be a form of persuasion able to convince the beauty to be his possession voluntarily. According to Tischner, the way in which the enchanted and the beauty discovered by him seek to possess each other is the relation of seduction. Seduction, however, by its nature is a paradoxical phenomenon; for it is always associated with the consciousness of a renouncement which is to come. The fact that the artist and his work are doomed to part shows that the aesthetic tragedy is a drama not only of the work, but also of the artist; it is their mutual tragedy which stems from an illusory hope for the overcoming of the irremovable necessity of parting. The act of seduction undertaken in hope for having each other as a property becomes the reason of a parting for participating subjects, a parting which—according to Tischner—is announced in drama as the bane of man.

The article undertakes an attempt to unveil the tragic nature of beauty as present in Józef Tischner’s conception of aesthetic tragedy by reflecting on the aesthetic condemnation of the artist and forms of justification sought by him in the realm of beauty. The performed analysis are focused on the course of aesthetic tragedy, beginning with conditions of its coming into being, through forms of its expression, concluding with its term achieved by the parting of its subjects (the artist and his work of art). According to Tischner, it is possible for the artist condemned by his own work of art to find the way out from the framework of aesthetic horizon and all it contains within itself. The artist can overcome his aesthetic condemnation in two ways: he can either disprove the condemnation and demonstrate its falsehood, or replace the beauty in the structure of “the aesthetic I” with some other high value.

The article examines the paradoxicality of the notion of freedom in the theodramatic approach of Hans Urs von Balthasar. The main subject concerns the paradox of finite and infinite freedom and their relationship described in the second volume of Theo-Drama. The thought of the Swiss theologian is compared with the reflections of Henri de Lubac and Józef Tischner. The confrontation of their approaches in the context of the chosen topic made it possible to apply a new research method. Instead of the dialectical method, typically used in this context, a method concentrated on identifying the paradox and exploring the mystery behind it has been applied. This approach has led to a deeper understanding of the key role of the dynamical nature of finite freedom and has indicated the importance of proper identification of its source. It has allowed also displaying the inalienable nature of the Christological dimension to understand correctly the concept of infinite freedom and the most important feature of its essence. Finally, it has also helped to gain an in-depth insight into the conditions regarding the possibility of a genuine, though not symmetrical, relationship between the two freedoms.

The article examines the question of the Mariological interpretation of the eight beatitudes contained in Matt 5:3–10. Christian theologians of all ages, from Clement of Alexandria to the authors of contemporary biblical commentaries, have proposed various interpretations of this biblical text. Among the multitude of interpretations developed throughout history, the Mariological aspect appears quite rarely. Yet, as Pope Benedict XVI observes, the very biblical Marian title “Blessed” should direct the theological thought to the Mariological aspects of this issue. In modern times, a very deep reflection on the subject was conducted by two great theologians of the XX century, J. Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) and H.U. von Balthasar. On the Polish ground, the task was partly undertaken by J. Tischner, who elaborated the theme of eight beatitudes in the key of the Marian pilgrimage of the nation. The present work is meant to deepen the Mariological-biblical analysis of the eight beatitudes and revive the discussion regarding this subject in the perspective proposed by Benedict XVI, to understand the beatitudes as a program of life for a modern Christian.

Artykuł podejmuje kwestię mariologicznej interpretacji ośmiu błogosławieństw zawartych w Mt 5,3-10. Różnorodnych interpretacji tego biblijnego tekstu podejmowali się teolodzy chrześcijańscy wszystkich epok od Klemensa Aleksandryjskiego po autorów współczesnych komentarzy biblijnych. Wobec mnogości rozpatrywanych na przestrzeni dziejów interpretacji aspekt mariologiczny pojawia się dość rzadko. Tymczasem, jak zauważa papież Benedykt XVI, już sam biblijny tytuł maryjny „Błogosławiona” powinien wyraźnie nakierowywać myśl teologiczną na mariologiczne aspekty tego zagadnienia. W czasach współczesnych bardzo głęboką refleksję w tym zakresie prowadzili dwaj wielcy teologowie XX w., J. Ratzinger (Benedykt XVI) i H.U. von Balthasar. Na gruncie polskim zadanie to częściowo podjął J. Tischner, opracowując temat ośmiu błogosławieństw w kluczu maryjnej pielgrzymki narodu. Niniejsza praca pragnie pogłębić mariologiczno-biblijną analizę ośmiu błogosławieństw i ożywić dyskusję dotyczącą tej tematyki w zaproponowanym przez Benedykta XVI kluczu rozumienia błogosławieństw jako programu życia współczesnego chrześcijanina.

Reverend Józef Tischner was undoubtedly one of the most outstanding Polish philosophers of the second half of the twentieth century. What we owe to this student of Roman Ingarden is the flourishing of phenomenology and the philosophy of dialog not only in our domestic philosophical, but also sociological, psychological, and anthropological thought. His philosophy of drama is an original and very important current, which is enriched not only by the “Queen of the Sciences” but also offers great support to the related sciences, particularly sociological sciences. Within them, subjectivity is an extremely important subject of contemplation. This article is a sketch of the analysis of the benefits that a sociologist, researcher of subjectivity, can derive from reading Józef Tischner’s works.

Opis:
An important trend in Tischner’s philosophical output was the observation of the phenomena that would occur in the current social life of Poles. The trend gained particular significance at the turn of the 1970s and the 1980s, when the processes that finally led to the systemic transformation began. During this period, Tischner made a successful attempt to reconstruct the Polish social ethos. It turned out that its integral element is the presence of utopian projects to rebuild the social order in the country. Tischner stated in his analyses that these utopias play a constructive role in the social life because they motivate people to engage in the political struggle for deep system reforms. The article presents the content of Tischner’s reconstruction of Polish utopias from the 1970s and the 1980s and the correlation between social ethics, ideological discussions, and political practice of the declining period of the Polish People’s Republic.
Ważnym nurtem w dorobku filozoficznym Tischnera była obserwacja zjawisk występujących w bieżącym życiu społecznym Polaków. Nurt ten nabrał szczególnego znaczenia na przełomie lat siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX wieku, gdy rozpoczęły się procesy, które finalnie doprowadziły do transformacji ustrojowej. W tym okresie Tischner podjął udaną próbę zrekonstruowania polskiego ethosu społecznego. Okazało się, że jego integralnym elementem jest obecność utopijnych projektów przebudowy ładu społecznego w kraju. Tischner stwierdził w swych analizach, że utopie te pełnią konstruktywną rolę w życiu społecznym, ponieważ dostarczają ludziom motywacji do zaangażowania w polityczną walkę o głębokie reformy ustrojowe. Artykuł prezentuje treść Tischnerowskiej rekonstrukcji polskich utopii z lat 70./80. oraz korelację między etyką społeczną, dyskusjami światopoglądowymi oraz praktyką polityczną schyłkowego okresu PRL.

Stefan Wyszyński i Józef Tischner to dwaj wybitni przedstawiciele polskiej myśli katolickiej dwudziestego wieku. Działali na różnych polach. Wyszyński jako Prymas Polski niósł ciężar odpowiedzialności za losy całego polskiego Kościoła w wyjątkowo trudnych dla niego czasach programowej ateizacji i dominacji antykościelnej propagandy, dlatego rozwijał w sobie cnoty męża stanu i myślał w kategoriach ogólnonarodowej strategii ewangelizacyjnej. Tischner działał przede wszystkim w dwóch obszarach: jako filozof i jako duszpasterz, a jego kompetencje i zainteresowania dotyczyły filozofii, która „rodzi się z bólu”, chce ten ból wyrażać i próbuje mu zaradzać. Swój głęboki i oryginalny zmysł filozoficzny wykorzystywał w codziennej pracy duszpasterskiej, co przynosiło imponujące efekty. Pomimo owej różnicy zakresu i stylu działania, obaj wywarli ogromny wpływ na duchowy i intelektualny kształt polskiego katolicyzmu. Choć nigdy nie spotkali się osobiście i nie mieli okazji współpracować ze sobą, można stwierdzić, że ich praca wychowawcza i intelektualna wytworzyła swego rodzaju „ukryty dialog” w polskiej przestrzeni publicznej. Najważniejsze płaszczyzny i owoce owego dialogu przedstawia niniejszy artykuł.
Stefan Wyszyński and Józef Tischner are two outstanding representatives of the Polish Catholic thought in the twentieth century. They were active in various fields. As the Primate of Poland, Wyszyński carried the burden of responsibility for the fate of the entire Polish Church in exceptionally difficult times of programmatic process of atheization and domination of anti-church propaganda, which is why he developed the virtues of a statesman and thought in terms of a national evangelization strategy. Tischner worked primarily in two areas: as a philosopher and as a priest, and his expertise and interests were related to philosophy, which is „born of pain”, wants to express that pain and tries to remedy it. He applied his deep and original philosophical sense to his daily pastoral work, with impressive results. Despite this difference in scope and style, they both exerted an enormous influence on the spiritual and intellectual shape of Polish Catholicism. Although they never met in person or had the opportunity to work together, it can be said that their educational and intellectual work created a kind of „hidden dialogue” in the Polish public space. The most important aspects and fruits of that dialogue are presented in this article.

The paper attempts to reconstruct Joseph Tischner (1931–2000) views about relation between grace and human freedom. The issue has been taken with reference to broad philosophical and theological context, which was important in Tischner’s thought (especially phenomenology and philosophy of dialogue). Besides, the paper pointed out to prospective problems in Tischner’s concept of grace and freedom, which can be inspiring in philosophy and theology.
W artykule podjęto próbę rekonstrukcji poglądów Józefa Tischnera dotyczących zagadnienia relacji między łaską a wolnością człowieka. Omówiony został także filozoficzno-teologiczny kontekst, w ramach którego kształtowały się poglądy krakowskiego myśliciela. Wskazano również na najbardziej perspektywiczne wątki w Tischnerowskiej koncepcji łaski i wolności, które mogą okazać się inspirujące zarówno w obrębie dyscyplin filozoficznych, jak i teologicznych.

Szczególnym fenomenem są jednak Szkoły Tischnerowskie, które tworzą tzw. Rodzinę Tischnerowską. Mają one mocne więzi, własne zwyczaje i nawet obrzędy, jak choćby ten specjalny przyjęcia do swego grona. Powstały one jako dziedzictwo wybitnego księdza i filozofa. Są one też hołdem złożonym mu pośmiertnie. To w nich kontynuuje się jego myśl i pogłębia jego filozofię. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest pokazanie genezy i historii Rodziny Szkół Tischnerowskich.
The Tischner School Family – genesis and history. The heritage of the thoughts and actions of the eminent Polish philosopher Józef Tischner is not only the subject of scientific research and in-depth philosophical reception, but also finds practical application in many regular and occasional events devoted to the social dimension of his thoughts. A special phenomenon, however, are the “Tischner schools”, which form the so-called The Tischner family. They have strong ties, their own customs and even rituals, such as the special admission to their circle. They were created as the legacy of an outstanding priest and philosopher. They are also a tribute to him posthumously. It is in them that his thoughts are continued and his philosophy deepened. The aim of this article is to show the origins and history of the Tischner School Family.

The main purpose of this article is the transposition of the category of „otherness”, which derives from Józef Tischner’s philosophy of man, to the educational grounds and using it to present the relationship between the teacher and the student. The author of this article, basing his conclusions on Tischner’s inspiring idea formed in Spór o istnienie człowieka (The Dispute over Human Existence) and teaching traditions, describes the roles of the student and the teacher in educational process. He indicates the obstacles of dialogue possibilities and, at the same time, he points out the common ground which allows to seek agreement of both parties in school communication. The basis of this agreement is the sphere of axiology opened to exploring the value of „the Other” by searching together for the truth about the world.
Zasadniczym przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest transpozycja kategorii „inności” wywiedzionej z filozofi i człowieka J. Tischnera na grunt edukacji oraz wykorzystanie jej dla przedstawienia relacji między nauczycielem a uczniem. Autor tekstu, osadzając swe refleksje na inspirującej myśli twórcy Sporu o istnienie człowieka oraz tradycji dydaktycznej, opisuje rolę ucznia i nauczyciela w procesie edukacyjnym – wskazuje na bariery utrudniające możliwości dialogu, ale jednocześnie na płaszczyzny wspólne, pozwalające na szukanie porozumienia obu podmiotów szkolnej komunikacji. Fundamentem owego porozumienia jest sfera aksjologii otwarta na odkrywanie wartości Innego na drodze wspólnego dążenia do prawdy o świecie.

Since its beginnings, philosophy has been associated with a critical quest for answers and has rejected biased and uncritical a priori interpretations. Methodic doubt has thus become not only the ever-present method of philosophy, but also a symbol of defiance against every kind of closed-minded and ideological thinking that has a tendency to simplify explanations and adapt reality to its own projections about the said reality. This type of thinking has always been linked to truth claims made by individual power entities. In the past, we have witnessed twists and abuses of ideology with far-reaching political consequences and yet the problem still persists. Each and every situation affected by crisis is a breeding ground for quick, clear and black and white explanations which attract attention and gain support, since they are generally easy to comprehend. This paper introduces a philosophical context of ideological thinking, in which the “will to power” is typical, as reflected upon by many thinkers, among them Józef Tischner who draws from his personal experience with the Communist regime in Poland.

This paper presents an attempt to describe Józef Tischner’s philosophy of drama from the point of view of Larry Laudan’s philosophy of science. That is achieved with the help of the concept of Philosophical Research Traditions developed in the paper. A~certain conceptual problem of Tischner’s philosophy, and some future research topics are also presented.

Opis:
Based on the achievements of the philosophy of science and some aspects of J. Tischner’s philosophy, the essay proposes a literary and philosophical model of the dialogue between science, philosophy, and theology. The model suggests a different insight into the history of science–belief dispute: the main issue becomes the recognition of the domain in which the given formulation of the problem in question can be solved.
W oparciu o osiągnięcia filozofii nauki i niektóre aspekty filozofii Józefa Tischnera esej rozwija literacko-filozoficzny model dialogu nauka–filozofia–teologia. Refleksja prowadząca do sformułowania modelu pozwala na inne spojrzenie na historię dysput nauka–wiara: podstawową kwestią dialogu staje się określenie dziedziny, w której możliwe jest rozwiązanie danego sformułowania problemu.
