More and more business customers use social media to express their opinions about products, services and brands. This study aims to make a step further in understanding consumer engagement in electronic word of mouth (eWOM) on Facebook and its impact on recommending and purchasing products. To test our conceptual framework, structural equation modeling techniques have been applied to data collected through a self-administrated survey addressed to 640 Facebook users from Romania. Our model shows that Facebook’s perceived usefulness infl uences customer brand engagement, which in turn has an important effect on the intention to purchase the brand and recommend it to others (word of mouth). Therefore, people who use Facebook as a source of information about products and services are top eWOM providers. A brand that seeks to build authority on Facebook should look for eWOM providers, convert them into fans and “feed” them with attention-grabbing information that is worth spreading. This way, most of the fans will provide free word-of-mouth advertising, becoming true brand ambassadors. Our study has established that Facebook’s perceived usefulness not only engages online users with brands, but also makes this medium a perfect eWOM tool: it builds trust in friends’ recommendations, and eventually, makes the users sincere supporters of the brands they like.

The aim of the article is to analyse the normative concept of guilt currently adopted by the Polish legislator from the semantic perspective. Under Polish law, imputation of a perpetrator of a criminal act is a prerequisite for incurring criminal liability. The perpetrator who cannot be blamed is not punishable and is not treated as a criminal. The legislator distinguishes two forms of guilt: intentional, which is synonymous with intention, and unintentional. Both intentional and intentional guilt are subject to further gradations in the Act, which often raises serious difficulties in judicial practice. In the article, the author strives to formulate the linguistic postulates de lege ferenda, which helps avoid interpretation doubts by changing the wording of language related to the construction of guilt in criminal law.

Agents play an important role in high level artificial intelligence in such areas as distributed decision support, robot control, computer games, etc. Currently, the most popular high-level agent architectures are based on the belief-desire-intention (BDI) model. BDI agents are usually specified in modal logic. This is efficient for defining event goals. However, defining quantitative goals can be very difficult in many popular formalisms. In this paper we propose a method for expressing quantitative goals by associating partial utility functions with agent’s goals. We propose a modified BDI agent architecture which is loosely based on fuzzy logic. In this architecture, approximation of partial derivatives of those functions enables us to use gradient based optimization algorithms in the intention reconsideration step to weight some action specializations. Using the proposed approach allows us to easily combine quantitative and event goals, and consider them all while planning. This paper also describes a simple language which can be used to elegantly describe generic action libraries in accordance to the proposed model.

The relation between meaning and intention is considered, reflecting the theoretical approaches of J.R. Searle in comparison with early phenomenological authors like A. Marty and the polish philosopher K. Twardowski. The latter is seen as a founder of important distinctions in the philosophy of language and semiotics, as for example the one between the content and the object of presentations. The Twardowskian concept of meaning is genuinely oriented towards the hearer, and in this respect it is different from that of J.R.Searle, who claims – in his intentionalist writings – that meaning consists only in representation, not in communication. Insofar Twardowski’s approach can be considered as constituting an influential – even though presently underestimated – impetus in direction of a communication-based conception of meaning within intentionalist semantics.

The article is devoted to contemporary official documents of the religious language in the form of statutes of diocesan synods. Linguistic syntactic analysis focuses on the communicative intention and the ways of expressing it formally. The focus is mainly on verbs (classical modal predicates and exponents of intent such as to command, recommend, encourage) and verb-nominal structures. Syntactic structures with additional information about the sender’s motives are also described.
Artykuł jest poświęcony współczesnym dokumentom urzędowym języka religijnego w postaci statutów synodów diecezjalnych. Językoznawcza analiza składniowa skupia się wokół intencji komunikacyjnej i sposobów jej formalnego wyrażania. W centrum uwagi mieszczą się głównie czasowniki (klasyczne predykaty modalne i wykładniki intencji typu nakazywać, zalecać, zachęcać) oraz struktury werbo-nominalne. Opisowi podlegają też konstrukcje syntaktyczne z dodatkową informacją o celu przyświecającym nadawcy.

Speech production is complex and high organized process. It starts with some intention, which in following steps is transformed into articulated and audible form. Sometimes speech production fails and results in a speech error (or a slip of the tongue), which changes meaning of the utterance and disturbs the process of the realization of intention. However, speech monitoring helps to detect and repair the error with respect to the original intention of the speaker. Thus the speaking appears as a way of the realization of intention and the intention plays integrational function in relation to the process of speaking. According to Frydrychowicz (1999), the process of the realization of intention can be divided into several phases, distinguished by psychophysical features of speaking. He found that voice intensity is highest when the speaker is close to fully realizing the intention. The aim of the current study is to examine this voice intensity effect in relation to speech error repairs as speaking units which re-establish the process of the realization of intention. The question is, howthese corrections of the course of speech are reflected in the voice intensity? The results obtained from errors and repairs induced in the dual task paradigm show that voice intensity rises when the speaker makes a self-repair by speaking a correct word.

The aim of the article is to characterise and analyse Paul Amselek’s research approach to legal hermeneutics. The text provides an outline of Amselek’s assumptions and theses about legal interpretation, considered in the broad context of hermeneutics, and in the narrower context of legal logic and argument (including rhetoric and speech act theory). In point of fact, one of the methodological aims of Amselek’s philosophical reflection is to harmonise the two indicated contexts for framing interpretation — the wide context of hermeneutics, and the more narrow context of legal logic and argument. Amselek refers to issues in communication theory, reaching beyond the hermeneutic concept of text interpretation and evocation of the original authorial intention. He analyses the legal text-message in its content and argument layers, he also endeavours to specify the methodological possibilities of interpreting the attitudes and motivations of subjects — participants in communication situation (the sender and receiver of the message). He also inquires about the ethical attitudes of jurisdiction authorities, performing the interpretation of a body of law — the subjects responsible for lawmaking and the execution of law. Adopting post-Enlightenment anthropological assumptions, Amselek accepts the primacy of rationality in cognition, decision making, and activity of the human individual. However, in his considerations on interpretation he concurrently underscores the role of affective factors, motivating many choices and actions made by legal subjects.

Metaphor, as is known, has been considered an expression of the creative approach of a subject to language and thinking. Metaphor enables the subject of cognition and action to establish meaning – the subject exercises semiosis not only by referring to the former convention and the situational context, but also by transforming it due to the distinct act of turning the metaphor into an instrument of expression. The innovative character of metaphor allows one to consider it in the context of performative theory, whereas its receptive, evocative character requires interpretation from the recipient. In both cases, metaphor in acts of communication, opens their participants towards specific expressions – performative expression in the case of individual semantic innovation, and receptive expression in the case of the interpretation of former metaphors. The specific example of silence, considered as a kind of metaphor within the frameworks of the performative theory, is the subject-matter of the paper. The basic question of the paper, referring to John L. Austin’s speech act theory and to his followers, is related to the source of the aforementioned metaphorization – to what degree is it an intention of language users, and to what degree is it a language convention which allows one to combine words and establish new associations metaphorically? In his pragmatic concept of meaning, Austin stresses the role of the context of an utterance – the situational context may also enable the establishment of metaphor as a figure of speech that dynamizes and moves our thinking.

This study addressed several inconsistencies and omissions in golf putting research by testing the performance impact of target focused aiming. Participants were 22 high-level and experienced golfers, currently using ball focused aiming. Participants were allocated in a quasi-random fashion to ball or target focused aiming conditions and each performed 32 putts under competitive conditions on a natural putting green from a distance of 8 ft. Data were recorded as putts holed or missed and further categorised into putts missed long, short, left, right, short left, short right, long left and long right. There was no significant difference between conditions (p > 0.05) for any of the categories tested, despite participants’ prior extreme familiarity and expressed preference for the ball focused technique. These results notwithstanding, we discuss possible explanations for target focused benefits, including the role of vision during putting, the impact of intention during execution and possible expectancy effects. While these findings hold potential implications for golf coaching, more research is clearly required to further understand causative mechanisms and to clarify the existence and nature of advantage for one technique over the other. Based on this study, we recommend that high-level and experienced golfers might try target focused aiming as a ‘cost-free’ experiment.

This paper is mainly focused on analyzing the impact of four advertising appeals, namely love appeal, humor appeal, happiness appeal and excitement appeal on purchase intention for women fashion products in Malaysia. Primary data were collected from 303 respondents using selfadministered online questionnaire that was distributed among social media users in Malaysia. The collected data went through an extensive process of screening and sorting to prepare for the analyses. Several important tests were conducted using analytical tools, namely IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and its added module, AMOS to reach the fi ndings. Among them are a descriptive analysis, reliability tests, an exploratory and confi rmatory factor analysis, and hypothesis testing. In addition, two-stage structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test for the fi tness of the proposed model. The fi ndings from the study revealed that two out of four advertising appeals, namely excitement appeal and love appeal, had signifi cant positive impacts on consumers’ purchase intention. Meanwhile, humor appeal and happiness appeal were found to have insignifi cant impacts. This research provides invaluable insights for marketers, especially those in women’s fashion industry in Malaysia, in creating eff ective advertising campaign to promote their fashion products to consumers in Malaysia. A unique attempt to investigate the individual impact of love appeal, humor appeal, happiness appeal, and excitement appeal on purchase intention is the strength of this research. Further, this study is also invaluable because of its main consideration, which was women’s fashion products.

This research paper mainly aims to identify and analyse irrational factors that impact consumers’ purchase intention, especially in the fashion industry. The data for this study were collected from 205 consumers of various nationalities via an online self-administered questionnaire. The acquired data were put through a thorough process to establish their relevance and to ensure that the data were ready for further analysis by applying the SPSS & AMOS software. Three irrational factors were extracted from the extant literature, namely, media, social impact, and emotions. These factors are reported to have a positive infl uence on the consumer’s purchase intention. First, a descriptive analysis was undertaken followed by an inferential analysis. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the fi tness of the proposed model and also to test the hypotheses. Two out of the total three hypotheses are supported. In this case, media infl uence and social infl uence emerged with a signifi cant positive impact on the consumer’s purchase intention. Even though emotions infl uence resulted in a positive impact, it was not statistically signifi cant and does not relate to the consumer’s purchase intention in the fashion industry. The fi ndings of this study have signifi cant contribution to the body of knowledge and practice. Marketing research, in general, and consumer research, in particular, will benefi t from the contribution of this research. Similarly, policy makers in the fashion industry may adopt the fi ndings of the present study to devise more eff ective marketing strategies. Indeed, this research highlights that the consumer’s purchase intention is not entirely in response to a particular phenomenon but a multitude of so-called “irrational” factors like media, society, and emotions.

Forming action plans is expected to move people from intention to action. We hypothesized that the effects of planning interventions may depend on changes in self-efficacy beliefs. Participants (182 nurses and midwifes, 89% women, aged 19-50) were assigned to the control or the planning intervention (three planning sessions) groups and reported their self-efficacy, sweet and salty snack intake at the baseline and four months later. The results suggest that an increase of efficacy beliefs over time augmented the effects of the planning intervention and resulted in the lowest snack intake (the enhancing effect of self-efficacy). Planning intervention also prompted lower unhealthy snacking if efficacy beliefs were decreasing (the protective effect of planning). Those who have stable-high self-efficacy were able to achieve low snack intake regardless of the group assignment (the buffering effect of self-efficacy).

The concept of archetype used by Eliade in religious science investigations derives from his meditational experiences. Eliade, in order to be better understood by Western scholars, referred to the archetype concept by Carl Gustav Jung and the concept of ideal type used by phenomenologists. However, one should not identify Jung's concept of archetype with that of Eliade's. With Jung, it has a psychological meaning, with Eliade a metaphysical one. However, according to the Romanian scholar, the same archetypes are basis of religious, esthetical and literary symbols. It is our intention which decides about how given symbol is to be understood. Any symbols however, owe their power just to the archetypes embedded in the structure of the human psyche.

Autor recenzuje książkę Andrzeja Szahaja, „O interpretacji”. W swym szkicu zwraca uwagę na prekursorstwo tez głoszonych przez Szahaja w latach 90. XX wieku wobec polskiej recepcji problematyki zwrotów: etycznego, politycznego i kulturowego. Ponadto, stawia tezę, iż neopragmatystyczne stanowisko Szahaja można także uznać za stanowisko hermeneutyczne sensu largo, przeciwstawione paradygmatowi formalno-strukturalno-semiotycznemu nowoczesnego literaturo-znawstwa. Z tego punktu widzenia autor podejmuje krytykę Szahajowskiej krytyki hermeneutyki, starając się dowieść, że „w tekście istnieje raczej coś, niźli nic”, zwracając uwagę na rozmaite przesądzenia kulturowe Szahaja, które determinują jego ocenę nie tylko hermeneutyki, ale także na przykład dekonstrukcji. Całość szkicu utrzymana jest jednak w tonie życzliwej polemiki lub też, inaczej rzecz ujmując, „sporu w rodzinie”.
The author reviews the book by Andrzej Szahaj, “On interpretation”. He points out that the ideas Shahaj proposed in the 1990s anticipated Polish reception of the ethical, political and cultural turn. Moreover, he argues that Szahaj’s neopragmatic approach can also be considered hermeneutical in the broad sense, opposed to the formal-structural-semiotic paradigm of modern literary criticism. From this point of view, the author undertakes criticism of Szahaj’s criticism of hermeneutics, in an attempt to prove that “in the text there exists something rather than nothing”, noting the variety of Szahaj’s cultural prejudices that affected his view of not only hermeneutics, but also, for example, of deconstruction. The essay is, however, intended as benevolent polemic or, in other words, “a family dispute”.

A credible answer to every issue must take into account every aspect, but first must consider the truth about the man which is able to find and know God. With this assumption comes also the position of canon law doctrine proclaimed That the reality of the sacrifice of self and acceptance of the other person, even when there is no faith turns out to be more difficult to Achieve but not impossible to make. Whereas studying the dynamics of development of an act of faith in a man can better assess the same intention to marry.

Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is a fact. Nowadays, numerous transactions take place via mobile devices. At the same time, m-commerce is considered as one of the fastest growing subgroups of e-commerce. Characteristically, it is estimated that about 45% of mobile users have made at least one purchase via a wireless hand-held device. Therefore, it plays and will continue to play a vital role in the global economy. The aim of this research paper is to investigate the perceptions of mobile commerce users focusing on Bulgarian University students. Specifically, it intends to reveal the perceived advantages and disadvantages of m-commerce, the factors that motivate students to make online transactions via a hand-held device, as well as the issues that hinder them from doing so more often. The paper is expected to provide tangible results to both academia and the industry about a developing economy.

One of the most popular technologies is the internet of things (IoT). It refers to the number of users and penetration in the industry (I-IoT) and consumer (C-IoT) sectors. The previous studies indicated that the usage rate of the C-IoT is outperforming the I-IoT worldwide. However, the contrary indication occurred in Indonesia. Among developing countries, the spending level of IoT in Indonesia is significant, but the use level of the technology is less developed. This survey study purposed to predict what factors influence the behavior intention to use C-IoT. The researchers extended the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model by adopting the network externality aspects. Around 400 valid data were collected from urban communities in the six most populous provinces in the country. The scholars used the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method using SmartPLS 3.3 in the data analysis stage. The findings expressed that the number of users and social influence factors are not influential factors influencing behavior intention to use IoT. Besides that, the UTAUT model extension may also be one of the theoretical references for future similar studies. Practically, the findings may also be one of the considerations for the stakeholders of C-IoT implementation in Indonesia.

The aim of the study was to determine the role of self-efficacy, outcome expectancies, and risk perception (including consequences of mastectomy) in formulating the intention to undergo breast reconstruction in 178 women after total mastectomy. The social-cognitive variables were measured in the context of breast reconstruction, while depression was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory. The structural equation modeling revealed that among the predictors there were only two that accounted for the intention to undergo breast reconstruction, i.e. self-efficacy and outcome expectancies (R2 = .67). Subsequent analyses of the related moderators, i.e. depression, age, and duration of the disease indicated a good fit to the data. Nevertheless, in subgroups with poorer resources (older age, depression, and longer duration of the disease) the direct effects of self-efficacy on intention were less noticeable or non-existent. The results suggest that self-efficacy may play the regulating role in making a breast reconstruction decision if individual resources are taken into account.

This study investigated entrepreneurial intention among graduate students of USM**** Engineering Campus. Applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB; Ajzen), we examined the empirical model of entrepreneurial intention determinants. Although research has been conducted in entrepreneurial intention, limited study has been done among Iranian graduate students who are studying abroad. This research aims to fill this gap using Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire (EIQ, version 3.1). Accordingly, a survey study was applied and Iranian graduate students of the USM Engineering Campus were studied using the census method. The authors propose an empirical model and tested its reliability and validity using structural equation modeling. Data was analyzed using Spss16 and Amos18 software. Results revealed that the level of knowledge about business sources of assistance for entrepreneurs in addition to components of the TPB, affected entrepreneurial intention. Empirical model ‘s goodness of fit indices indicated good model fit χ2=1.047, df=2, probability 0.592; NFI= 0.981; CFI= 1.000; RMSEA=0.000). It seems that current empirical model could be a guide for future research on this important topic.

Those who are not of sound mind, or incapable of personal responsibility, are considered to be infants. An adult cannot be validly baptized without wanting to be baptized. A person who attained the use of reason and subsequently lost it, must have made while rational the intention of being baptized in order to receive validly the sacrament. This manifestation of will constitutes a requirement ad validitatem of celebration of baptism.Most of all canonists maintained that a habitual intention is sufficient: that is, intention once given is withdrawn, and current or virtual intention is, therefore, unnecessary. The article revisits and examines in detail the so-called Ebert debate: an exchange of polemic voices between Roger Ebert, his opponents and supporters, on the issue of the relationship – both actual and potential – between games and works of art. Initiated by Ebert’s famous remarks that games can never be art, the debate offers a variety of views on the nature of art, the role of experience in art and games, the possibility of artistic expression in games, and the autonomy of art. The main point of the article is not so much to compare these views as to explain the contradiction at the heart of Ebert’s own argument: the critic seems to be constantly torn between the idea that games cannot be art in principle and the more practical view that it is impossible to know for certain that no games will ever become art. This contradiction seems to stem directly from Ebert’s inconsistent views as to the source of meaning in games, and it allows us to shed new light both on the nature of games as a medium, and on fundamental issues with contemporary games studies/criticism.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a model depicting the relationship between the behavioral intention of tourists in the conditions prevailing during a pandemic and other variables. Design/methodology/approach – In constructing the research procedure, two measurements of tourist behavioral intention were taken into account, which were taken far apart in time. In verifying the developed model, the results of surveys of 1,615 people carried out in June 2021 and 917 people carried out in December 2021 were considered. Findings – As a result of the habituation process, tourists show greater acceptance of the restrictions. Practical implications – Information on the basis of which companies make management decisions plays a significant role in the creation of company value. In the tourism sector, the information concerns primarily consumer behavior. Originality/value – Changes over time in risk perception, health protection motivation, and reactance due to perceived pandemic-related restrictions were taken into account in the context of behavioral intention towards tourism.

Disputationes metaphysicae by Francis Suárez in its assumptions returns to the classical division into real being (ens reale) and mind‑dependent being (ens rationis). To put it in the theoretical structure, Suárez’ theory of being is directly linked to the noetic concept of “objective being” (ens objectivum). Suárez definitely broke with a classical approach to the object of metaphysics and headed an existential reflection on being toward the essentialization. So his metaphysics is not focused on the concept of being in the aspect of existence, but is the study of abstract being as the “essence”. It is an interesting theory in historical terms, but it also suggests that it can provide in‑depth study of previous scholastic theories. Suárez’ approach meets with the theory that clearly influenced the modern epistemology and post‑Cartesian philosophy as a cognitive shift towards a new subjective prospect (e.g. in se conversa), in which reflection on real being was shifted toward the subject‑consciousness representation, that is, toward the noetic reflection and mentalism).

Journalists have been facing a variety of challenges and are even being laid off in the face of changing media ecosystems in the age of digital convergence. Sharing similar characteristics with entrepreneurs, numerous journalists have worked together to develop social enterprises, attaining social change through business approaches. The present study explores the intentions of former and current journalists to establish social enterprises, using questionnaires focused on personality traits, creativity, and social capital. Results reveal that creativity was found to have a significant influence on the social entrepreneurial intentions of journalists, as does having higher bridging-type social capital.

The text is about modality from a linguistic point of view. The author takes a broad understanding of a modal category (modality indentified with communicative intention) and analyses the so called basic modal units: verbs and predicates, which together with an infinitive create a verbal construction. The low-cost green car (LCGC) is becoming one of interesting research topics in the automobile industry along with its unique characteristics of a vehicle product, tax incentives, and industry growth. The characteristics of this green product and its economic value are ultimately shifting customer behavior. Therefore, an understanding of the purchase motivation and value perception is crucial to determine the purchase intention. Perceived value acted as a full experience that customers received as a combination of thinking and feeling dimensions which are consistent with the utilitarian and hedonic motivations. Besides, LCGC sales have also been growing recently from the fi rst car owner until more senior customers who are predicted to have different motivations and values across generations. This study explores the LCGC car purchase intention of 240 customers in Indonesia to fi nd relationships of buyers’ motivation and perceived value to the LCGC purchase intention across generations X, Y, and Z. The result shows that hedonic motivation signifi cantly differs particularly between generation Y versus Z, and X versus Z. However, utilitarian motivation does not signifi cantly differ among generations. Further, perceived value also signifi cantly differs between generations X and Y.

Background – Early adulthood is the developmental stage during which, for the first time, an individual can independently choose their own lifestyle. For the future health of a young adult, it is important that they incorporate healthy behaviors from different health dimensions (somatic, mental, social) into their lifestyle. Analyzing the foregoing issue gives rise to a fundamental question: did intensive social changes experienced after Poland’s accession to the European Union lead to changes in different aspects of a healthy lifestyle? Method – The presented study involved 504 people. The research data was collected in two separate measurements in 2003 (n = 284) and 2013 (n = 220). Subjects were asked to complete sets of questionnaires which measured: health behaviors, health beliefs, social influence, intention. Results – Statistical comparison of means tests and regression equations were conducted. Results demonstrate that young adults were similarly engaged in pro-health activities in both 2003 and 2013. A detailed analysis of health lifestyle factors shows that young adults from the 2013 group care more about their diet, physical activity, and more frequently undergo preventive medical health examinations. Moreover, significant changes in healthy lifestyle factors were reported. The most important observation concerned the changes in health beliefs. Beliefs derived from a holistic-functional model of health played a major role in the 2003 group, whereas in the 2013 group beliefs close to the biomedical model of health were more important. Conclusions – Analyses demonstrate changes in detailed healthy lifestyle factors. At the same time, no significant differences in global measures of concern for one’s health were observed. Importantly, results show modifications in healthy lifestyle factors. It is suggested that the observed differences stem from the social change of the last decade.

Aim. This study aims to understand the factors determining university students’ behavioural intentions toward online learning in Bangladesh. Specifically, this study investigates the relationship between performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), and behavioural intention (BI). Moreover, this study explores the influence of pandemic fear (PF) as a moderator in the relationship between exogenous and endogenous factors. Methods. The study is cross-sectional and followed a quantitative research approach with purposive sampling. Data were collected at a single point using a sample size of 578 respondents who studied online during the various phases of lockdown at five public and five private universities in Bangladesh. Regarding multivariate analysis, the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is applied in this study to test the causal relationships in the structural model, as it is considered a second-generation technique. Results. Statistically, a positive significance was found between PE, EE, SI, and BI in online learning participation. Whereas the FC and the BI exhibited a negative relationship, a positive relationship was found between PE, EE, and the SI on BI. In addition, a moderating role for PF was investigated, and EE and FC were found to influence BI significantly. Conclusion. This study presents an extended UTAUT model by integrating pandemic fear as the moderator to study students' behavioural intention to adopt an online learning system under a disruptive situation. Practitioners, especially academicians and policymakers, will find this model useful while developing andragogic interventions for the higher education sector in Bangladesh.

Purpose – Self-employment is considered one of the responses to precarious employment, particularly among those who lost jobs during an economic crisis. Although starting a new business is widely available, operating new ventures remains challenging. This article aims to explore the premises of self-employment success, namely self-employment intention and proactive coping as crucial predictors of further performance. Design/methodology/approach – The authors recruited participants among initially unemployed individuals who participated in the entrepreneurial program aimed at creating self-employment. Since entrepreneurs are expected to have specific personal characteristics important for performance, the authors assessed proactive coping as the key factor for self-employment intention. Findings – The results depicted proactive coping as crucial in performing own ventures in the long run, which suggests that self-employment intention may change over time. Practical implications – Proactive coping is particularly appropriate for self-employed at any stage of the entrepreneurial process because it maintains the intention to perform own business. Thus, the findings underline the need for proactive coping training for entrepreneurs, particularly those previously unemployed. Originality/value – As the self-employment intention may differ in time, the importance of being proactive in operating small businesses increases.

The rate at which students are dropping out of schools in recent time is worrisome and it calls for serious interventions from educational stakeholders. Education is very expedient for the development of an individual as well as that of any society that aspires to be relevant in the 21st century. Education, at all levels, is associated with a set of positive factors for work life, social and personal wellbeing as well as the improvement of the economy of any nation. It can then be deduced that education is sine qua non to the development of an individual and that of any nation. Dropping out of school is not only detrimental to the individual but also increases the likelihood of unemployment, violence activities, kidnapping thuggery, armed robbery and other social vices. This study, therefore, investigated the influence of family dysfunction and emotional intelligence on school dropout intention among police officers’ children in Lagos state. This study employed a survey research design. The study made use of simple random sampling technique. Two hundred and twenty (220) respondents comprising 98 males and 122 females from two police secondary schools in Lagos state were used for the study. Three Standardised instruments were used in collection of data for the study. These are: School dropout intention scale (alpha = .84) family dysfunction scale (alpha = 0.85) and emotional intelligence scale a = .88). Data from the study were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and multiple regression analysis (ANOVA). The result revealed that the two independent variables had significant relationship with dropout intention among police officers’ children. Family dysfunction (r = .902, p < .05), emotional intelligence (r = .383, p < .05. Also, the two factors jointly contributed 41.2% of the variance to dropout intention among the police officers’ children.(Adj. R2 = .412) In terms of magnitude of contribution, family dysfunction made the most significant contribution (Beta = .223, t = 2.429, p < 0.05) followed by emotional intelligence (Beta = .106, t = 2.115, p < 0.05) Based on these findings, the study concluded that dropout intentions of police officers’ children are determined by family dysfunction as well as emotional intelligence. Recommendations and suggestions were offered to various significant stakeholders.

Late-career entrepreneurship can be a good answer to the problems of an aging population—age discrimination experienced by mature workers or inadequate pensions. For this reason, it is gaining increasing interest among researchers and policymakers. However, to date, very little is known about the factors that favor or hinder intentions to become entrepreneur at the late-career stage, especially those taking a psychological perspective. The current study aims to fill this gap by testing whether dispositional affect is related to entrepreneurial intention at the late-career stage. To explain the mechanism of this relationship, we use the theory of planned behavior. We conducted a study that included 292 non-self-employed people aged 45–81. The results showed that neither positive affect nor negative affect are directly related to entrepreneurial intention, but these relationships are rather indirect and go through components of the theory of planned behavior. This provides insights into explanation of late-career entrepreneurial intention and can be used by researchers, policymakers and practitioners, for example in programs supporting business start-ups by people approaching retirement age.

This paper has been written using data derived from a major study conducted by Oyugi (2011). The study investigated the contribution of entrepreneurship education to the development of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and intentions among university students in Uganda. The paper recognizes the development and the teaching of entrepreneurship courses in most universities in Uganda with the aim of rolling out students sufficiently equipped to become job creators. At a time when efforts are being made to address graduate unemployment through mainstream training in entrepreneurial skills in post-primary and post-secondary education, this paper provides timely guidance on the entrepreneurial curriculum. It proposes a quantitative analysis in which entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial self-efficacy are key to developing entrepreneurial intentions of students. To investigate this, two hypotheses were formulated. Data was collected by means of a mail survey questionnaire completed by students, randomly selected from a sampling frame of third year students, who had training in entrepreneurship course. The findings revealed that significant relationships exist between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention, while self-efficacy was found to partially mediate the entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention.

Purpose: Drawing on self-determination theory (SDT), this article aims to examine the impact of customers’ intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity on purchase intentions for luxury brands. Moreover, this study delves into the moderating effect of customer brand loyalty in these relationships. Methodology: To this end, we tested our hypotheses with a student sample (N = 169) from Pakistan. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM), and moderation analysis techniques were used to analyze the data using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0. Findings: The results of data analysis indicated that a customer’s purchase intention for luxury brands is significantly influenced by extrinsic religiosity, while intrinsic religiosity has trivial influence in boosting purchase intention for a luxury brand. Our results for moderation analysis further show that customer purchase intention for a luxury brand is reinforced by intrinsic religiosity when customer brand loyalty is high but not when customer brand loyalty is low, whereas purchase intention for a luxury brand is fortified more by extrinsic religiosity when customer brand loyalty is low than when customer brand loyalty is high. Research Limitations: As with any set of cross-sectional studies, our research is not without limitations. For instance, the sample size in the current study is purposefully small. This limits the generalizability of findings across a wider population. Implications/originality/value: This study has provided a framework to explain how customers’ intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity affected the purchase intentions of luxury brands in the emerging market.

The standard version of the doctrine of double effect, a significant doctrine in applied ethics particularly medical ethics, not only fails to capture some morally significant components of Aquinas’ view, but it does not resort to proper complementary features in order to accommodate the doctrine to our moral intuitions. We attempt to offer a new formulation of the doctrine incorporating the main components of Aquinas’ view and also to extend the view using some complementary features. We will examine the strength of the formulation applying it into some ethically controversial situations, mainly in medical ethics.

Many retailers have low sales due to the difficulty in the purchase decision of their customers. Previous research shows the lack of studies on the impact of store interiors on purchase decisions. This study aims to find out various visual merchandising factors that affect purchase intentions at XYZ retail stores and focuses on visual merchandising itself, as well as store environment and customer inspiration factors that affect customer behaviour. The non-probability sampling technique with analysing 140 respondents using an online questionnaire with SMART PLS was used to conduct this research. The results show that customer inspirations directly influence customers’ purchase intentions. Visual merchandising and store environment indirectly affect purchase intention as well, mediated by customer inspirations. The customer inspiration variable is in the good category in the XYZ store. It is recommended to use quick response in visual merchandising and develop a store environment virtually that can be connected to a customer’s device.

Intencja prawodawcy jako konstytutywne pojęcie dla intencjonalizmu bywa bardzo różnie rozumiane przez przedstawicieli tego nurtu i nie tylko przez nich. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przybliżenie polskiemu czytelnikowi pojmowania intencji przez pięcioro autorów: Stanleya Fisha, Larry’ego Alexandra, Jeffreya Goldsworthy, Richarda Ekinsa oraz Victorię Nourse, a także przeprowadzenie analizy porównawczej ich poglądów. Wiąże się to ze stosowaniem metody teoretycznej polegającej na opisie koncepcji i próbie ich porównania. W świetle poczynionych ustaleń należy podkreślić, że poglądy V. Nourse wpisują się raczej w założenia purpozywizmu niż intencjonalizmu. Stanley Fish oraz Larry Alexander reprezentują radykalną odmianę intencjonalizmu – na gruncie której ze względu na radykalne założenia ontologiczne nie jest możliwe zbudowanie na metody interpretacji mogącej znaleźć zastosowanie w praktyce. Inaczej jest w przypadku Jeffreya Goldsworthy oraz Richarda Ekinsa, którzy przyjmują założenie o tym, że prawodawca działa zgodnie ze ,,zwykłym zdrowym rozsądkiem”.
The intention of the legislature, as a constitutive concept for intentionalism, is understood very differently by representatives of this trend and not only by them. The aim of this study is to familiarize the Polish reader with how intentions are understood by five authors: Stanley Fish, Larry Alexander, Jeffrey Goldsworthy, Richard Ekins, and Victoria Nourse, as well as to conduct a comparative analysis of their views. This involves the use of a theoretical method consisting in the description of concepts and an attempt to compare them. In the light of the findings, it should be emphasized that Victoria Nourse’s views are more in line with the assumptions of purposivism than intentionalism. Stanley Fish and Larry Alexander represent a radical variety of intentionalism, on whose basis, due to radical ontological assumptions, it is not possible to build any methods of interpretation capable of practical application. Not so with Jeffrey Goldsworthy and Richard Ekins, who assume that the legislature acts in accordance with “simple common sense”.

Purpose: Drawing from attachment theory and categorization theory, the present study aims to investigate the effects of brand attachment and brand passion on consumer purchase intention, and to explore the moderation effect of product involvement (i.e.a low-involvement convenience product vs. a high-involvement shopping product) in these relationships. Design/methodology/approach: To bridge this gap, we recruited n = 205 young consumers to test the hypotheses using AMOS 24.0 and SPSS 24.0. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and moderation analysis techniques were used as data analysis methods. Findings: Results show that when brand attachment and brand passion were assessed, the brand passion has the highest effect on purchase intention. Moreover, our data reveal that brand attachment is more likely to lead to consumer purchase intention for convenience products, while brand passion is more promising for increasing consumer purchase intention for high-involvement shopping products. Finally, we provide a detailed discussion of how these results can be applied to both research and practice. Implications: This study offers recommendations for how practitioners can strengthen purchase intentions of convenience and shopping brands in emerging markets. Originality/value: This study is the first to prove that brand attachment is a driver of purchase intention of low-involvement convenience brands, whereas brand passion is a more prominent predictor of the purchase intention of high-involvement shopping brands.

The article Truth and Falsity of Literary Statements investigates the issue of logical values, and consequently communication related status of sentences in indicative mood occurring in works of literature. The problem is discussed with reference to theoretical assumptions of classical logic, intuitionistic logic, and other possible intensional logics as well as phenomenological concepts proposed by Roman Ingarden. In this context it is suggested that intensional systems, mainly intuitionistic logic be adequately applied to identify logical value of literary sentences. As a result, it is assumed that the logical value of literary sentences depends on the specific logical system selected; according to the standards of intuitionistic logic, literary statements are true, likely or false. In this context it seems necessary to revise Roman Ingarden’s phenomenological assumption that sentences in indicative mood in a work of fiction do not have objective point of reference. It is suggested that such sentences be recognised as false, and therefore indicative of the group of their intentional meanings as a specific model of reality which can be deemed true or false.

Entrepreneurial Intention was intensively examined within the research on entrepreneurship, but the results were diverse. The research was mostly focused on a non-engineering student. The inspiration for this paper was provided by (Law & Breznik, 2017) and (Karabulut, 2016) and its main goal is to determine the factor that pushes undergraduate students towards success in business and allows them to develop their entrepreneurial intention. This research is intended to ascertain the impact of innovativeness (Innov) and need for achievement (Nach) on entrepreneurial intention based on attitude towards entrepreneurship show among vocational high-school students having an extended curriculum in engineering. The examined sample was composed of 338 students of vocational high school (SMK) in an Indonesian District offering some extended courses in engineering. The adopted research methodology was of descriptive and correlational nature, with a quantitative method and a path analysis utilizing Lisrel 9.30. It was found that the need for achievement (Nach) and innovativeness (Innov) exert some significant indirect influence on entrepreneurial intention based on the attitude towards entrepreneurship, while the need for achievement (Nach) has lower direct influence on entrepreneurial Intention.

Szczególny nacisk położono na współpracę krajową i międzynarodową oraz wdrożenia i osiągnięcia ostatnich lat, a także zamierzenia obecnego kierownictwa Instytutu na przyszłość.
The paper presents an outline of the history of the Metal Forming Institute from its foundation as the Chipless Forming of the Main Institute of Mechanics to the present day. Changes of the management, organizational modifications, major implementations and achievements within the 60 years of the Institute’s existence have been described. Special emphasis has been put to the domestic and international co-operation and the imple- mentations and achievements of the recent years, as well as the intentions of the Institute’s present manage- ment for the future.

Autor artykułu prezentuje hermeneutyczną metodę interpretacji jednego z najwybitniejszych filozofów XX wieku, jakim był Paul Ricoeur. Hermeneutyka jako taka nigdy nie znajdowała się w głównym nurcie filozofii, ale zawsze stanowiła jej znaczący obszar i przedmiot zainteresowania. Myśliciele wykorzystywali te narzędzia, by pełniej zająć się człowiekiem i zrozumieć wszystko, co stanowi typowo ludzki wytwór, jakim są teksty. Mówiąc o tekstach, hermeneutyka nie ogranicza się do słów i fraz, lecz uwzględnia także rytuały, gesty, obyczaje i relacje pomiędzy ludźmi oraz grupami społecznymi. W tym wszystkim jest działanie, które chce uchwycić pierwotne intencje autora i sensy zawarte w tekstach. Często sensy znacznie wykraczają poza to, co wniósł autor nam samym początku. Odkrycie tego wszystkiego jest zadaniem hermeneutyki.
The author presents the hermeneutic method of interpretation of one of the most eminent 20th century philosophers, Paul Ricoeur. Hermeneutics as such has never been in the mainstream of philosophy but it has always been a significant domain and object of interest. The thinkers used its tools to study human beings more in depth and to understand everything there was about one of the unique to humans creations, their writings. Speaking of texts, hermeneutics is not limited to words and phrases but it extends to rituals, gestures, customs and relationships between people as individuals and social groups. In all of this, the aim is to capture the original intentions of the authors of the texts but also the intentions and meanings that may go beyond what they consciously intended to convey in the first place. The meaning that originates in the course of functioning in a certain place and time.

The purpose of this study is to test whether the influence of satisfaction and reputation on repurchase intention varies among analytic and holistic thinkers. We employed an individual level approach to measure cross-cultural differences regarding thinking style and other variables. We made a cross-cultural comparison via analyzing the effects of satisfaction and firm reputation on repurchase intention, using data from the USA and Turkey that reflect analytic and holistic thinking cultures, respectively. Also, we conducted intra-cultural analyses in which the USA data and Turkish data were analyzed separately. Findings from these analyses revealed that holistic and analytic thinking styles create differences at the individual level (intra-cultural) but not at the cultural level (cross-cultural). In the Turkish sample, the impact of reputation on repurchase intention is found to be stronger than that of satisfaction for holistic thinkers.

University education plays an important role in promoting entrepreneurship and stimulating the entrepreneurial intention of students. The main aim of the paper is to find out whether among universities from selected V4 countries we can observe differences in approaches of universities toward students’ entrepreneurial intention creation from students’ point of view. The conclusions are based on the results of a questionnaire survey which was conducted in 2016 in selected universities among 300 students. The general conclusion is that although Polish students seem to have the strongest entrepreneurial intentions, the university’s role in creating entrepreneurial intention, as assessed by them, is lower compared to Slovak or Czech students.
Problematyka intencji przedsiębiorczych, badana w ramach nauk o zarządzaniu, stanowi źródło przewagi konkurencyjnej organizacji i rozwoju ekonomicznego na świecie. Edukacja uniwersytecka odgrywa ważną rolę w promowaniu przedsiębiorczości oraz stymulowaniu intencji przedsiębiorczych wśród studentów. Celem głównym artykułu jest pozyskanie wiedzy czy wśród uniwersytetów z wybranych krajów V4 można zaobserwować różnice w podejściu do kształtowania intencji przedsiębiorczych przez uczelnie wyższe, z punktu widzenia studentów. Wnioski opierają się o badania ankietowe, które były przeprowadzone w 2016 r. na wybranych uczelniach wyższych wśród 300 studentów. Ogólnie można stwierdzić, że, pomimo iż polscy studenci wykazują się najsilniejszymi intencjami przedsiębiorczymi, oceniają oni gorzej rolę uniwersytetów w kształtowaniu tych intencji niż słowaccy i czescy studenci.

This study aims to provide a great deal of insight into how risk perception and purchase intention differ for the consumer with different online shopping motives. Data were collected through a questionnaire with 359 voluntary consumers aged 18-28 living in Istanbul. 14 motives leading them to online shopping through digital platforms for textile products were defined with the Focus group technique. First, clustering analysis was conducted to define consumers according to the guiding motives in online shopping. Next, whether the consumer segments identified by these motives have different levels of risk perception and purchase intention was investigated via ANOVA analysis.

This study investigated the impact of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) components on Saudi women’s e-entrepreneurial intentions. Five hundred thirty-four female undergraduate students from different universities in Saudi Arabia completed survey questionnaires to understand the moderating role of resource accessibility in influencing entrepreneurial intentions. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to test the model. The study reveals that attitude towards entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial self-efficacy are significantly related to e-entrepreneurial intention, while the subjective norm was insignificant. The moderation role of Resource Accessibility (RA) positively impacted the relationship between the TPB components and e-entrepreneurial intention. The findings of this study develop a base for supporting women’s entrepreneurial intention through resource accessibility.
W artykule zbadano wpływ elementów teorii planowanego zachowania (TPB) na intencje e-przedsiębiorcze saudyjskich kobiet. Pięćset trzydzieści cztery studentki studiów licencjackich z różnych uniwersytetów w Arabii Saudyjskiej wypełniły ankiety, aby zrozumieć moderującą rolę dostępności zasobów we wpływaniu na intencje przedsiębiorcze. Do przetestowania modelu wykorzystano modelowanie równań strukturalnych (SEM). Z badania wynika, że stosunek do przedsiębiorczości i przedsiębiorczego poczucia własnej skuteczności są istotnie związane z intencją e-przedsiębiorczą, podczas gdy norma subiektywna była nieistotna. Moderacyjna rola dostępności zasobów (RZ) pozytywnie wpłynęła na relacje między komponentami TPB a intencją e-przedsiębiorcy. Wyniki tego badania tworzą podstawę do wspierania przedsiębiorczych zamiarów kobiet poprzez dostępność zasobów.

The aim of the article is to discuss the crimes of killing and abusing animals set out in the Animal Protection Act. The characteristics of the subjective side of the analyzed acts were analyzed. Attention was drawn to the problem related in particular to the subject of the crime of animal abuse. The positions of the representatives of the criminal law doctrine and views appearing in the jurisprudence, especially of the Supreme Court, were presented.

In this study we address the preliminary design for the module layout and bill conveyance routes of automatic teller machines (ATMs). We determine a two-dimensional layout for the modules as below that are approximately rectangular if the ATM is viewed from the side. ATMs require the compact placement of modules within the chassis and conveyance routes that smoothly circulate bills. However, the intersection and overlapping of routes by which the bills are conveyed in opposite directions are not allowed. Applying the bottom-left method and route-design-oriented packing method to the layout of the modules and the direction-oriented maze routing expediting branching and interflow of routes to the bill conveyance route, the application orders are optimized simultaneously using genetic algorithms (GAs). Results show that suitable designs for the ATM including the case when modules are selected as well as placed are achievable using the above simultaneous optimization. The design intention is expressible by changing the weights associated with chassis dimensions, route lengths and the number of route bends, which compose the objective function. The proposed method is useful for efficiently advancing the preliminary design of ATMs. Finally, if island models pursuing individual targets are used along with a GA, the design becomes even more efficient.

We propose a new approach to the bipolar database queries, which involve a necessary (required) and optional (desired) conditions, connected with a non-conventional aggregation operator “and possibly”, combined with a context, exemplified by “find houses which are cheap and – with respect to other houses in town – possibly close to a railroad station”. We use our winnow operator based interpretation of the bipolar queries. We assume that the query, posed by the human user, involves terms, which do not directly relate to attributes, and which are then to be decoded using a concept of a query hierarchy, leading to the queries, which involve terms directly related to attribute values. The original query is considered to be of level 0, at the bottom of the precisiation hierarchy, then its required and optional parts are assumed to be bipolar queries themselves, both accounting for context. The precisiation proceeds further, to level 1 queries, level 2, etc. A real estate related example is provided as illustration.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the antecedents of consumers’ purchase intention toward local dairy products. In doing so, this article delves into the relationships between perceived quality, perceived price, customer satisfaction, brand image, and customer purchase intention in the context of developing countries. Design/methodology/approach: Drawing on the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework, the research model was tested using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique with a questionnaire applied to 731 respondents from Saudi Arabia. Findings: The results showed that perceived quality, consumer satisfaction, and brand image have a positive impact on purchase intention, whereas perceived price could not explain purchase intention. Moreover, consumer satisfaction and brand image appeared to significantly mediate the relationships in the research model. Research limitations/implications: This article studies a specific country and local dairy consumption. One should be careful when generalizing the results to other food and country contexts. Originality/value: This study investigates consumer purchase intention specifically toward local dairy products, which was a matter underexplored in the literature as opposed to studies on a variety of other local products. Moreover, the article contributes to an extension of the SOR framework onto the body of literature regarding local products.
