    The monastery dedicated to St Elijah in Czerna was founded by Agnes of Teczynska Firlej in 1631. From its beginning the monastery collected works both for the celebration of liturgy and so as to deepen the knowledge and spirituality in the areas of asceticism, preaching and theology. Books usually came from donations and legacies. Currently in the resource library of old prints in Czerna there are 14 incunabula. Incunabula are not uniform provenance band books. They come from the ecclesiastical institutions, from individual person and from the clergy. Some of incunabula have an original binding, other have been replaced or refurbished. Though it is a small collection of books, in terms of quality it reflects the interests and needs of the environment. The smudged corners of the pages and the highlights made of part of the text can testify that these books were used by monks in deepening their knowledge.

    The study To Publish, Make Known and Sell is based on the verified existence of competition tensions between the 15th-century typographers/publishers, related to the absence of functional regulatory tools of book production of the incunabula period. The increase in the number of book-printers within the relatively narrow geographical area, disregard of publishers' privileges, the emergence of pirated reprints, as well as insufficient self-promotion on the book market through introducing novelties had concentrated typographers' attention on devising new tools of securing their triumph in publisher's competition - the so-called book advertisements. The author has analysed 44 promotional posters of the incunabula period from several points of view and attempted to identify their design elements, which on the one hand showed signs of certain standardization, while on the other hand, they were subject to the personal creativity of their creator. She gives a detailed overview of the circumstances of the origin, typographic design, and contents of book advertisements of several kinds within the context of promoting either the existing or planned editions, of one edition or a group of books; specifically focusing on the unique types of advertising. In conclusion, the author cites the circumstances of the extinction of book advertisements related to the rise of the new promotional tool - booksellers' catalogue and submits a bibliography of the book advertisements dating from the 15th century.

    The paper discusses some aspects of possibilities and dangers that new digital technologies bring in the camp of transmission of texts, especially the literary ones, and their scholar edition. While the new trends and achieve- ments are still under discussion, a glance towards the similar situation of some 500 years ago, when printing press was introduced to replace, step by step, a manuscript communication, could be useful to understand what we experience and to foresee some ways these new technologies will probably undertake.

    Dzięki ocalałym zapisom sporządzonym przed 1939 r. w Bibliotece Seminaryjnej w Płocku możemy dzisiaj odtworzyć z dużym prawdopodobieństwem księgozbiór po Piotrze Lubarcie, renesansowym sufraganie płockim współpracującym kolejno z biskupem Erazmem Ciołkiem i Andrzejem Krzyckim. Analiza tego już niewielkiego zbioru (w ciągu wieków znacznie się zmniejszył) jest odzwierciedleniem wykształcenia, jakie odebrał w krakowskiej Alma Mater pod kierunkiem Jakuba z Gostynina, a także zainteresowań i potrzeby zgłębienia ksiąg, które nabył w ciągu życia, i sprawowania różnych funkcji kościelnych. Zgromadzone przez niego księgi są też znaczącym przyczynkiem do uzupełnienia wizerunku biograficznego wyższego rangą duchownego sprawującego funkcję sufragana w jednej z najstarszych diecezji w dawnej Polsce – w Płocku na Mazowszu.
    Thanks to the surviving records compiled before 1939 in the Seminary Library in Płock, we can today reconstruct with a high degree of accuracy the book collection of Piotr Lubart, the Renaissance suffragan of Płock who worked with Bishop Erazm Ciołek and Andrzej Krzycki. The analysis of this already small collection (which has reduced considerably over the centuries) reflects the education he received at Krakow’s Alma Mater under the guidance of Jakub of Gostynin, as well as the interest and need to study the books he acquired during his life and various ecclesiastical functions. The books that he collected during his life are also a significant contribution to completing the biographical profile of a high-ranking clergyman who held the post of suffragan in one of the oldest dioceses in former Poland – in Płock in Mazovia.

    There exist only few medieval codices containing musical notation for the Mass in the Pauline rite. The significant source for further research of the Pauline liturgical music is Missale Eremitarum S. Pauli printed by Johannes Amerbach about 1490. The objective of this article is to discuss the blank spaces left especially for the addition of handwritten neumes. The space for musical notation was prepared by the printer for parts of the Ordinarium Missae, in ceremonies of the Palm Sunday and Good Friday. In six remaining copies of the missal the neumes were inscribed in various ways. The study of the provenance shows that these copies were used in the monasteries in several countries.
    Istnieje jedynie kilka średniowiecznych kodeksów zawierających notację muzyczną Mszy w rycie paulińskim. Istotnym źródłem do badań nad paulińską muzyką liturgiczną jest Missale Eremitarum S. Pauli wydrukowany przez Johannesa Amerbacha ok. 1490 r. Celem artykułu jest omówienie miejsc pozostawionych przez drukarza pod odręczne wpisanie neum. Miejsce pod notację muzyczną zostało przygotowane we fragmentach Ordinarium Missae, obrzędach Niedzieli Palmowej i Wielkiego Piątku. W sześciu zachowanych egzemplarzach neumy zostały wpisane w odmiennym zakresie. Opracowanie proweniencyjne wykazało, iż egzemplarze były używane w klasztorach kilku krajów.

    The history of the Camaldolese library in Bielany near Warsaw is strongly related to the history of the hermitage that was founded by Vladislaus IV. The fall of the Noble’s Republic stopped the development of the hermitage while the dissolution of the monasteries and closing the novitiate led to its liquidation in 1902. Finally, the creation of a parish in 1905 and handing over the monastery buildings to the Marian Fathers ended its history. Apart from the buildings, the Marians also took over the post-Camaldolese collection of books. They combined it with the books from the library of the Warsaw Reformats, and then started ordering and compiling the collection. During World War II, a significant part of the collection was destroyed or dispersed. The effort of rebuilding the library that was undertaken after the termination of hostility was interrupted in 1954 when the Marians had to leave Bielany After a short stay in the Library of the Theological Seminary in Warsaw, the collection was distributed among different Marian monasteries. The Bielany library was dispersed and a part of its collection landed in Lublin. It consists of 8 incunabula, 5 of which were the property of the Archbishop Jakub Wydżga. There are the works from the Nuremberg publishing house of A. Koberger, Bologna publishing house of H.B. Faelli and Rome publishing house of S. Plannack. On the basis of provenience notes, the Camaldolese library can be also assigned with 32 old prints. Most of them came from testaments, donations and legacies.

    Bishop Jan Dantyszek played a major role in the process of bringing Polish culture into the European mainstream. He possessed an impressive book collection which testified to his extensive interests. Over the centuries, the bishop’s collection was dispersed. Some of the volumes found their way to the Jesuit college in Braniewo, from where they were taken to Sweden in the 17th century. In the 19th century many books were transferred to the cathedral library in Frombork, and from there, after World War II, to the Library of the Warmian Theological Seminary “Ho-sianum” in Olsztyn. Books with Bishop Dantyszek’s ownership marks are found today in vari-ous libraries, mainly in Poland, Sweden, Germany and Russia. In Poland the largest number of prints from the bishop’s library have been preserved in the Library of the Warmia Metropolitan Seminary “Hosianum” in Olsztyn (eighteen). This article analyses their content, binding and history. These are theological, philosophical and legal works as well as historical ones and those concerning ancient writers. They have the bishop’s ownership marks in the form of his own sig-natures, ex-librises and superex-librises which are among the most beautiful Polish bookplates of the Renaissance period.
    Biskup Jan Dantyszek odegrał dużą rolę w procesie włączania kultury polskiej w nurt europejski. Posiadał on okazały księgozbiór, który świadczył o jego rozległych zainteresowaniach. Zbiory biskupie w ciągu wieków uległy rozproszeniu. Część woluminów znalazła się w kolegium jezuickim w Braniewie i stamtąd została wywieziona do Szwecji w XVII w. Sporo książek przeszło w XIX w. do biblioteki katedralnej we Fromborku, a stamtąd po II wojnie światowej do Biblioteki Warmińskiego Seminarium Duchownego „Hosianum” w Olsztynie. Książki ze znakami własnościowymi biskupa Dantyszka spotyka się dziś w różnych bibliotekach, głównie polskich, szwedzkich, niemieckich i rosyjskich. W Polsce najwięcej druków z biblioteki biskupiej zachowało się w Bibliotece Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego Metropolii Warmińskiej „Hosianum” w Olsztynie (osiemnaście). Niniejszy artykuł analizuje ich zawartość treściową, oprawy oraz dzieje. Są to dzieła teologiczne, filozoficzne i prawnicze oraz historyczne i do-tyczące pisarzy starożytnych. Posiadają one znaki własnościowe biskupa w postaci jego własnoręcznych podpisów, ekslibrisów i superekslibrisów, należących do najpiękniejszych polskich księgoznaków doby renesansu.

    The Kórnik Library is one of the oldest and most valuable establishments in Poland. By creating a library during the Partitions of Poland and collecting valuable old books and manuscripts, Tytus Działyński intended to save and foster Polish culture and traditions for posterity. Heir to Tytus – Jan Działyński – secured and expanded the Library. Having no heir himself, Jan Działyński left the Działyński inheritance to his nephew, Władysław Zamoyski, who continued his grandfather's and uncle's work. Just before his death,  Władysław Zamoyski donated the entire inherited property to the Polish nation. In 1924, he established a Foundation meant to supervise the Library, a museum and the Institute of Dendrology. The Zakłady Kórnickie Foundation operated until 1953 when it was taken over by the Polish Academy of Sciences and has remained within its structure until today. The library continues assembling, developing and sharing its collections. The latest technologies have enabled us to provide the library and museum collections to the largest possible number of readers. The collections have been successively digitized and made available on the Digital Platform of the Kórnik Library created as part of the EU project POPC.02.03.01-IP.01-00-002/15 “Digital access to the resources of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Library”.

    The scope of the project carried out in the Kórnik Library in 2016-2019 included the set of incunabula kept in the facility. This paper sums up the works concerning this part of the book collection. The author presents new findings concerning the holdings, simultaneously indicating the need for further research on the oldest treasures of the European printing industry kept at the library established by Tytus Działyński.

    The article aims to present to the Polish reader the Olomouc bishops’ and archbishops’ book collections, which are held in the Archbishop Palace in Kroměříž in Moravia; a special attention is paid to incunabula. Kroměříž palace library was established in the 17th century by Bishop Karol Lichtenstein-Castelcorn. Initially, the collection of the incunabula was a small one (in the time of Bishop Lichtenstein, there were only several titles), but over centuries it grew to 178 titles in 172 volumes and is currently one of the biggest collections of this type in the Czech Republic. The collection grew fastest in the second half of the 19th century thanks to the activity of Bishop Friedrich Egon von Fürstenberg, who acquired books from two sources: the Court Library in Vienna and Vienna antiquarian bookshops.  In the 1830s, the palace librarian, Franz Josse, began describing the collection of the incunabula. Later the collection was described a few more times. The findings of the latest research, conducted in the years 2015-2017, were presented in an extensive catalogue entitled Kroměřížská Zámecká Knihovna I. Prvotisky. The catalogue includes the list of all discovered Kroměříž incunabula along with a detailed description (provenance, binding etc.). The collection of the incunabula is diverse; the works it contains are on various subjects and of different provenance: in addition to the prints from Western Europe, for example, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, there are also prints from Central Europe, including two prints which come from the areas incorporated into Poland after World War II – from Paczków and Głogów.
    Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia polskiemu czytelnikowi księgozbioru biskupów i arcybiskupów ołomunieckich zgromadzonego w Pałacu Arcybiskupim w Kromieryżu na Morawach ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zbioru inkunabułów. Kromieryska biblioteka pałacowa została założona w XVII w. przez biskupa Karola Lichtensteina-Castelcorna. Początkowo skromny zbiór inkunabułów (za czasów bpa Lichtensteina liczył jedynie kilkanaście tytułów) na przestrzeni wieków rozrósł się do 178 tytułów w 172 woluminach i jest obecnie jednym z największych zbiorów tego typu w Republice Czeskiej. Największy rozwój zbioru przypadł na drugą połowę XIX w. dzięki działalności bpa Friedrich Egon von Fürstenberga, który pozyskiwał książki z dwóch źródeł – z Biblioteki Dworskiej w Wiedniu oraz wiedeńskich antykwariatów. W latach 30. XIX w. pałacowy bibliotekarz Franz Josse podjął pierwsze próby opracowania kolekcji inkunabułów. W późniejszym okresie zbiór doczekał się jeszcze kilku opracowań. Wyniki najnowszych badań, zrealizowanych w latach 2015-2017, zaprezentowano w obszernym katalogu pt. Kroměřížská zámecká knihovna I. Prvotisky. Katalog zawiera listę wszystkich odnalezionych dotychczas kromieryskich inkunabułów wraz ze szczegółowym opisem (proweniencja, oprawa itd.) Profil zbioru inkunabułów jest bardzo zróżnicowany, znajdziemy w nim dzieła z różnych dziedzin i różnych proweniencji. Oprócz druków z Europy Zachodniej (m.in. Włochy, Niemcy, Szwajcaria) znajdują się tu również druki proweniencji środkowoeuropejskiej, w tym m.in. dwa druki, które trafiły do Kromieryża z terenów włączonych do Polski po II wojnie światowej – z Paczkowa i Głogowa.

    The article contains characteristics of incunabula from Vasyl Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine (LNSLU) collection. The author provides sources from which the collection of 15th century prints gathered in LNSLU has been obtained: the Ossoliński National Institute, including family deposit collections of the Pawlikowski and Chrzanowski families; the Dzieduszycki family book collection; the library of the People’s House in Lviv including Anton Petrushevich’s collection; the library of Shevchenko Scientific Society; collection of the Byzantine library „Studion” founded by Andrey Sheptytsky, as well as book collections from Basilian monasteries and church libraries. The article describes the history of the dissemination of incunabula in previous centuries, their circulation in the Galician millieu (in the lands under the Austrian partition), gives the names of their owners and characterizes provenance forms.

    Opis:
    The publication presents the selected works held in the library of the collegiate church in Opatów; it provides a great deal of information on the book collection from which only short catalogue cards have been known so far. The following paper, however, does not cover all the issues related to the above-mentioned collection concerning its contents, publishing houses, provenance notes or bindings, it is only a monograph article which can be used for further more detailed study, which this book collection deserves.Some volumes were described more thoroughly due to the uniqueness of the title, edition or binding. It was possible to identify the bibliographic data of some books thanks to the older catalogue: titles, publishing dates and publishing house. In the literature on the subject– the register of church book collections – the library of the collegiate church in Opatów has always been present. However,  more detailed information concerned only parish or deanery documents and archival material. The above-mentioned documentation has lately been described in a separate publication while parish registers are being gradually digitalized. The book collection of the collegiate church in Opatów contains manuscripts, incunabula, antique and new books as well as an extensive collection of religious magazines. The subjects the books from Opatów is typical of a church library. This is primarily the literature related to theology, apologetics, biblical studies, patristics and preaching sermons. There are fewer works on law, liberal arts and philosophy; and only several books on science.
    Publikacja prezentuje wybrane dzieła znajdujące się w bibliotece kolegiaty opatowskiej i jest próbą szerszego zaprezentowania księgozbioru znanego dotychczas jedynie z krótkich not katalogowych . Tym samym nie wyczerpuje zagadnienia zarówno pod względem treści zbioru, jak i oficyn wydawniczych, not proweniencyjnych czy opraw, ale jest przyczynkiem do dalszych, bardziej szczegółowych analiz, na które niewątpliwie ten księgozbiór zasługuje. Część woluminów została opisana bardziej szczegółowo ze względu na wyjątkowość tytułu, wydania lub oprawy. Dane bibliograficzne niektórych pozycji zostały zidentyfikowane w oparciu o starszy katalog - uzupełnione zostały tytuły, daty wydania i oficyny. W literaturze przedmiotu - spisach księgozbiorów kościelnych - biblioteka kolegiaty opatowskiej pojawiała się niemal zawsze, jednak wszelkie, bardziej szczegółowe informacje dotyczyły jedynie dokumentów lub archiwaliów parafialnych i dekanalnych. Zostały one ostatnio opracowane w osobnej publikacji , a metryki parafialne są stopniowo digitalizowane . Najobszerniejsze informacje o księgozbiorze opatowskim przedstawiono wydanym niedawno tomie poświęconym rękopisom w zbiorach kościelnych . Zostały one zebrane na podstawie ankiety przygotowanej przez autorkę niniejszego artykułu. Księgozbiór kolegiaty opatowskiej zawiera rękopisy, inkunabuły, starodruki oraz druki nowe. Posiada też ogromną kolekcję czasopism religijnych. Tematyka zbiorów opatowskich jest w zasadzie typowa dla biblioteki przykościelnej. Dominuje w niej literatura teologiczna, apologetyczna, biblistyczna, patrystyczna i kaznodziejska. Mniej liczne są pozycje z zakresu prawa, sztuk wyzwolonych i filozofii; tylko kilka egzemplarzy dotyczy nauk ścisłych.

    W artkule omówiono 5 inkunabułów o treści medycznej przechowywanych obecnie w Bibliotece Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego w Kielcach. Traktaty autorstwa niekwestionowanych średniowiecznych autorytetów Michele Savonaroli i Gentile da Foligno zostały współoprawione w jeden klocek. Scharakteryzowano oprawę i zawartość inkunabułów, przytaczając poszczególne rubryki, porady i recepty. Krótko zostały omówione dokonania w zakresie medycyny i biografie obu wymienionych autorów. Niestety, na obecnym etapie badań niemożliwe jest wyjaśnienie, w jaki sposób wolumin trafił do Biblioteki Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego w Kielcach. Można jedynie stwierdzić fakt użytkowania go w XVI-XVII wieku poprzez wpisy o charakterze poweniencyjnym.
    The article discusses five incunabula with medical content that are currentlystored in the Library of the Major Seminary in Kielce. Treatises by the undisputed medieval authorities Michele Savonarola and Gentile da Foligno have been bound together in a single adligat. The binding and contents of the incunabula are characterised and specific sections, tips and prescriptions are cited. The medical achievements and biographies of the two authors mentioned above are discussed in brief. Unfortunately, at the present stage of research it is impossible to explain how the volume found its way to the Library of the Major Seminary in Kielce. It is only possible to ascertain its use in the 16th and 17th centuries through entries made after its renovation.

    Die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in München fungiert seit Anfang der 1950er Jahre in Deutschland mit Förderung der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft als Referenzbibliothek u.a. für die Länder Ost-, Ostmittel- und Südosteuropas, auch wenn die Anfänge ihrer Osteuropabestände wesentlich weiter in die Vergangenheit zurückreichen. Die Polonica-Sammlung zählt zu den weltweit bedeutendsten. Sie umfasst rund 150 000 gedruckte Bände, ebenso wie Inkunabeln, Alte Drucke, 900 Zeitschriften, elektronische Ressourcen, Mikroformen, Karten, Bilder uvm. Seit den 1990er Jahren unterstützt die Bayerische Staats- bibliothek die Polenforschung zudem durch zahlreiche digitale Projekte und Dienstleistungen. Diese werden in der Plattform „Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Osteuropa” (ViFaOst, www.vifaost.de) gebündelt, u.a. mit dem Fachrepositorium für Open-Access-Volltexte „Osteuropa-Dokumente online” (OstDok, www.ostdok.de).
    Bawarska Biblioteka Państwowa w Monachium funkcjonuje od początku lat 50. XX w. przy wsparciu Niemieckiej Wspólnoty Badawczej jako biblioteka referencyjna m.in. dla państw Europy Wschodniej, Środkowo-Wschodniej i Południowej, mimo że początki jej zasobów związanych z Europą Wschodnią odnoszą się w większym stopniu do przeszłości. Kolekcja poloników należy do najbardziej znaczących w skali światowej. Obejmuje około 150 000 druków, w tym inkunabułów, starych druków, 900 czasopism, dużą liczbę źródeł elektronicznych, mikrofilmów, map, zdjęć i wiele innych. Od lat 90. XX w. Bawarska Biblioteka Państwowa wspiera badania dotyczące Polski, m.in. poprzez liczne projekty i usługi związane z digitalizacją zbiorów. Są one udostępniane na platformie cyfrowej Wschodnioeuropejskiej Wirtualnej Biblioteki Fachowej (ViFaOst, www. vifaost.de).
    Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) the Bavarian State Library in Munich/Germany functions as a reference library for the countries of East, East-Central and Southeast Europe since the early 1950s. However the beginnings of its Eastern European collection reach further back into the past. The Polonica holdings are among the most distinguished worldwide. They contain about 150 000 printed volumes, incunabula’s, old imprints, about 900 journals, e-media, microforms, maps, images etc. Since the 1990s the Bavarian State Library also supports research on Poland with numerous digital projects and services. They are bundled in the platform „Virtual Library Eastern Europe” (ViFaOst, www.vifaost.de/en/), which also includes „Eastern European Documents online” (OstDok, www.ostdok.de), a repository for open access full texts.

    W zbiorach Biblioteki Raczyńskich w Poznaniu znajduje się inkunabuł Epistolae św. Hieronima wydrukowany w 1470 roku w mogunckiej oficynie Petera Schöffera (sygn. Inc. I 11). Dzieło to posiada stosunkowo bogatą dekorację iluminatorską, na którą składają się inicjały (rubrykatorskie, filigranowe i iluminowane) oraz floratury z motywami jelenia, dwóch małpek oraz ptaka. Analiza motywów zoomorficznych wykazała ich bezpośrednie powiązanie z treścią książki. Cechy formalne dekoracji iluminatorskiej pozwoliły zaś na uznanie ich wykonawcy za reprezentanta niemieckiej tradycji malarstwa książkowego, być może współpracującego z moguncką oficyną Petera Schöffera. Analogie formalne ze znanym z literatury inkunabułem Inc. 829 z Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej skłaniają jednak do alternatywnej atrybucji – anonimowemu twórcy krakowskiemu (zwanemu Iluminatorem Dekretaliów).
    The collections of the Raczyński Library in Poznań include the incunabulum Epistolae by Saint Hieronimus published in the printing office of Peter Schöffer in Mainz in 1470 (call number: Inc. I 11). This work is relatively richly illuminated, having a number of decorated ornamented initials (rubrics, delicate initials and illuminated initials) as well as a border illuminations – a row of fleuron ornaments depicting a deer, two little monkeys and a bird. An analysis of the zoomorphic motifs has revealed that the zoomorphic motifs are directly related to the content of the book. An analysis of the formal features of the enlarged and decorated capital letters and the first letters of a section of the text made it possible to establish that its originator represented typical German book illumination tradition, and possibly even cooperated with the Mainz-based printing office of Peter Schöffer. A number of certain formal analogies with the incunabulum Inc. 829, currently held at the Jagiellonian Library and widely addressed in the literature, suggest however an alternative attribution, namely that of an anonymous Cracow-based artist (known as the Illuminator of the Decretalia).
