The Author concludes that the Rules Deputies’ and Immunity Affairs Committee should not continue to examine application request of the subsidiary prosecutor after the court of appeal has finally dismissed the criminal proceedings. It should be assumed that revoking of a valid procedural decision terminating these proceedings will give rise to the necessity of submitting a new application for waiver of immunity. An entity that submitted an application for waiver of immunity may freely dispose of it until the Sejm adopts a resolution regarding the consent to bring the Deputy to criminal accountability or until the Deputy’s submission of the statement referred to in Article 105 para. 4 of the Constitution.

The opinion is an answer to a question submitted by the Marshal of the Sejm, whether a former Deputy is still entitled to immunity protection in case of acts committed within the scope of the mandate. According to the author, the former Deputy (or a Senator) may be held responsible for actions violating rights of the third persons which took place during the exercise of the mandate of that Deputy, but only upon a permission of an appropriate house of Parliament. The author notes that the loophole in legislation should be filled by an amendment.

The author indicates that the legal structure of the Polish immunity regulations excludes the possibility of adopting a resolution by the Sejm on giving consent to bring several deputies to responsibility. In each individual case, the Sejm should consider a separate motion and adopt a separate resolution. Referring to the principle of discontinuity, the author concludes that regarding the two former Deputies, new motions for consent to bring them to a civil law liability should be submitted, while in the case of a Deputy holding a mandate also in the 9th term, the proceedings on the motion concerning him should be continued.

Opis:
This review article presents fundamental mechanisms of the local mucosal immunity in selected regions of the respiratory tract in healthy birds and in some pathological conditions. The respiratory system, whose mucosa come into direct contact with microorganisms contaminating inhaled air, has some associated structures, such as Harderian gland (HG), conjunctive-associated lymphoid tissue (CALT) and paranasal glands (PG), whose participation in local mechanisms of the mucosal immunity has been corroborated by numerous scientific studies. The nasal mucosa, with structured clusters of lymphoid tissue (NALT – nasal-associated lymphoid tissue) is the first to come into contact with microorganisms which contaminate inhaled air. Lymphoid nodules, made up of B cells with frequently developed germinal centres (GC), surrounded by a coat of CD4+ cells, are the major NALT structures in chickens, whereas CD8+ cells are situated in the epithelium and in the lamina propria of the nasal cavity mucosa. Studies into respiratory system infections (e.g. Mycoplasma gallisepticum) have shown the reactivity of the tracheal mucosa to infection, despite a lack of essential lymphoid tissue. Bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue (BALT) takes part in bronchial immune processes and its structure, topography and ability to perform defensive function in birds is largely age-dependent. Mature BALT is covered by a delicate layer of epithelial cells, called follicle-associated epithelium (FAE). Germinal centres (GC), surrounded by CD4+ cells are developed in most mature BALT nodules, while CD8+ lymphocytes are dispersed among lymphoid nodules and in the epithelium, and they are rarely present in GC. Macrophages make up the first line of defence mechanisms through which the host rapidly responds to microorganisms and their products in the respiratory mucosal system. Another very important element are polymorphonuclear cells, with heterophils being the most important of them. Phagocytic cells obtained from lung lavages in birds are referred to as FARM (free avian respiratory macrophages). Their number in chickens and turkeys is estimated to be 20 times lower than that in mice and rats, which indicates a deficit in the first-line of defence in the birds’ respiratory system. There are numerous B cells and antibody secreting cells (ASC) present throughout the respiratory system in birds. Their role comes down to perform antigen-specific protection by producing antibodies (IgM, IgY or IgA class) as a result of contact with pathogenic factors.

The author states that a Deputy does not have an obligation to make available document received from a private person, regardless the content of the document. Parliamentary immunity, according to the author, does not release the Deputy from an obligation to testify as a witness or does not release the Deputy from an obligation to provide public authorities with a document which may serve as an evidence. However, pursuant to Article 21 the Act on the Exercise of the Mandate of a Deputy or Senator, the Deputy might refuse to provide information about a person who has provided an information to a deputy. This principle applies to civil procedure, criminal procedure and other investigative procedures that include an obligation to testify. The scope of this privilege contains also the possibility of refusing to issue a document received within limits of exercising of the mandate whose content would reveal information of a deputy’s informer.

The application concerns a person who held the mandate of a Deputy during the seventh term of the Sejm, but is not currently a deputy. According to the art. 105 paragraph 1 sentence 2 of the Constitution, a Deputy may be brought to a court accountability for action violating the rights of third parties, which have been taken within the scope of the mandate, only upon the consent of the Sejm. This rule applies to a possible court accountability of former Deputies concerning acts committed in the course of exercise of their parliamentary mandate. The subject of the resolution adopted by the Sejm must include a whole set of behaviors constituting a persecuted act, regardless of whether all behaviors are within the scope of the mandate. Content of the application meets the required precision only with regards behaviors belonging to the third group of activities. The behaviors of the first and second group have been indicated in the application in a very general way, what means that the application does not meet the requirement under art. 7b paragraph 4 Section 4 of the Act on performance of the mandate of Deputy and Senator.

STATE IMMUNITY
WAR CRIMES
Opis:
The article critically assesses the decision of the Polish Supreme Court in Natoniewski v. Federal Republic of Germany. It argues that the decision as such reflects contemporary international law practice. Consequently, the holding of the Supreme Court that State immunity is applicable to acts de iure imperii committed on the territory of the forum State during an armed conflict even though they may amount to war crimes seems to be correct. This conclusion also means that the Court refused to engage in law-making activity by declining to endorse interpretation, which would permit to reject State immunity by attaching superior importance to human rights. Although the article recognizes that the reasoning of the Supreme Court as well as the choice of arguments is well-balanced and convincing, it also identifies certain instances in which the Court is not entirely persuasive. In the opinion of the author, one of the most important drawbacks in the reasoning relates to the characterization of State immunity as a procedural, rather than substantive, issue.

STATE IMMUNITY
Opis:
On 29 October 2007, Winicjusz Natoniewski filed the lawsuit against the Federal Republic of Germany in the Circuit Court in Gdansk (Poland), demanding a payment of PLN 1,000,000 as a redress for injuries he suffered as a result of activities of the German military forces during World War II. The Circuit Court, Appellate Court and the Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit stating that the State immunity of the Federal Republic of Germany excluded the jurisdiction of Polish courts in this case and thereby deprived Natoniewski of the right to dignity guaranteed by Polish, European, and international law. The actions taken by German forces in the Natoniewski case constitute a war crime and a crime against humanity. In the case of such serious crimes, a State cannot invoke its immunity. The infringement of fundamental human rights entails the withdrawal of all benefits and privileges provided by international law, and thus is an implied waiver of the State immunity. This consequence results from the principle that no one can benefit from his/her unlawful conduct. Granting immunity to a State in case of international crimes committed by the State is contrary to the foundations of international law and it destroys the values which are the most important for the international community.

The auditor immunity is necessary to ensure appropriate performance of state audit tasks. Persons who do this job must be protected against potential charges of legal and penal nature, formulated due to performance of their professional activities. The auditor immunity cannot be considered as impunity, because the protection that it provides is not abused by the Supreme Audit Office. Motions to waive immunity are in fact very rare. However, the lack of exhaustive legal regulations in this regard does not allow for sufficient assurance as to the proceedings that are applied, especially in such a crucial area as the right to defence. In her article, the author presents the details of the procedure for waiving the auditor immunity by the Council of NIK.

He claims that a person to whom the motion to waive immunity pertains is entitled to comment the information contained therein, including the use of classified information, insofar as they relate to the circumstances of the case and the allegations formulated in the motion. This is a guarantee of the right to defence in the course of proceedings relating to waiver of immunity. The author points out that such proceedings must respect basic procedural standards and, in particular, take into account the constitutional right to defence.

In the opinion of the author, the scope material immunity includes the fulfilment of Deputy’s obligation to inform voters about the work of a parliamentarian and about the activities of the body to which he or she was elected. This obligation may be fulfilled through a direct information to voters at meetings with them as well as through the media. The scope of formal immunity is covers the Deputy’s responsibility for an infringement of the rights of third parties by means of informing voters about his work and the activities of the Sejm. In the light of the Supreme Court’s findings, it can be assumed that suing a Deputy to a civil court for infringement of personal rights in a statement made at a press conference in which he or she reports on his or her activities falling within the sphere of the execution of the parliamentary mandate, requires a prior consent of the Sejm.

A dominant view that a foreign state uses immunity in court examination of civil law cases deserves acceptance. This is the so-called limited immunity. The immunity of a foreign state in court examination of civil law cases and matters related to its examination should not be regulated in domestic law, including the Code of the Civil Procedure. Solutions for pursuing claims before national courts from a foreign state cannot be limited only to the issue of regulation of state immunity and the possibility of its waiving by the foreign state, but they also should cover issues related to the subsequent execution of a judgement delivered in such proceedings.

Opis:
In the article the author analyses whether the notion of ‘criminal liability’ contained in constitutional provisions relating to formal immunity should be understood in the same way as the identical term in art. 42(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. The author answers affirmatively to such research question, relying on linguistic directives of interpretation (prohibition of synonymous and homonymous interpretation), as well as the need to safeguard the effectiveness of immunity. Alternative line of interpretation – presented in the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal P 31/12 and based on exceptiones non sunt extendendae argument – is rejected. From this one can derive a conclusion that formal immunity provides protection against i.a. liability for administrative infractions. The author observes as well that statutory provisions which precise constitutional regulations on immunity do not cover such situations.

Opis:
W konsekwencji zarysowuje on tezę, iż „przestępstwo” w rozumieniu art. 145 ust. 1 Konstytucji stanowi w istocie nazwę dla szeroko rozumianej odpowiedzialności karnej.
The article discusses the scope of legal responsibility on the part of The President of the Republic of Poland. The lack of precise legal regulations concerning the matter in question leads to the following conclusion: taking into consideration the present prohibition of implicit immunity the President of the Republic of Poland ought to share the same realm of legal responsibility as do other Polish citizens. Yet, due to the apparent dangers inherent in the execution of the legal responsibility the author proposes for the jurisdiction in question to be under the supervision of the State Tribunal. The author’s argument is founded on the present legal order as well as in numerous functional and language oriented factors. As a consequence, the author claims “the offense” as defined in the 145th article of the Constitution is in reality a general notion for criminal responsibility.

Introduction. Structural glycans have great biological significance and are involved in signaling and cell communication of the immune system. They are attached to proteins and lipids in an enzymatic process called glycosylation where glycosyltransferase and glycosidases bind sugar residues and lead to the formation of bioconjugates. Aim. In this paper we describe the importance of glycosylation in the immune system and its changes in diseases. Material and methods. This review was performed according to systematic literature search of major bibliographic databases. Results. Proper glycosylation ensures the functioning of the organism, however, defects in structural glycans of immune system changes their properties and can lead to disorders and further to autoimmune diseases. It has been also proven that glycosylation of autoimmune system is changed during cancer. In this paper we described types of structural glycans, significance of glycosylation of selected components of the immune system and its modifications in disorders. Conclusions. Knowledge about changes in the glycosylation in diseases is the key to understanding the processes of autoimmune diseases and may allow the development of new treatments in the future.

In the paper there is proposed use of infrared thermography for assessing the validity of construction and operation of electronic devices. The most important advantages of this technique are the short time of studies and the ability of direct evaluation of results. It was found that for electronic devices it was appropriate to record infrared imagings in various states of their operation. Comparison of temperature increments from different states of operation enables validation of constructions from the heat discharge point of view. Investigations were performed for AC/DC power supplies, a GSM module, and the motherboard of a fire-fighting system using the camera VIGOcam v50. For AC/DC power supplies (Fig. 1) it was proposed to record infrared imagings during the surge immunity test (the standard EN 61000-4-5) in order to evaluate the quality of protective elements, varistors. From the imaging of the power supply immediately after the first surge (Fig. 2b) it was possible to evaluate the temperature increment on the varistor. It was stated that the accepted temperature increments on the varistor could be equal up to 30°C. The research results for the GSM module (Fig. 3) and the motherboard of the fire-fighting system (Figs. 4 and 5) are presented as imagings of the devices operating in a standby regime and with a full power. The areas with increased emission were identified. It was found that infrared thermography is very useful in the assessment of temperature distributions.

Opis:
The inducible metalloproteinase inhibitor (IMPI) discovered in Galleria mellonella is currently the only specific inhibitor of metalloproteinases found in animals. Its role is to inhibit the activity of metalloproteinases secreted by pathogenic organisms as virulence factors to degrade immune-relevant polypeptides of the infected host. This is a good example of an evolutionary arms race between the insect hosts and their natural pathogens. In this report, we analyze the expression of a gene encoding an inducible metalloproteinase inhibitor (IMPI) in fat bodies of the greater wax moth larvae Galleria mellonella infected with an entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana. We have used a natural infection, i.e. covering larval integument with fungal aerospores, as well as injection of fungal blastospores directly into the larval hemocel. We compare the expression of IMPI with the expression of genes encoding proteins with fungicidal activity, gallerimycin and galiomycin, whose expression reflects the stimulation of Galleria mellonella defense mechanisms. Also, gene expression is analyzed in the light of survival of animals after spore injection.

Objectives: Workers of X-ray departments are occupationally exposed to long-term low levels of ionizing radiation (LLIR), which may affect their humoral immunity. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of LLIR on the number and proportion of B cells (CD19+), B1 cells (CD5+CD19+) and memory B cells (CD27+CD19+) in peripheral blood of such workers. Materials and Methods: In the study group of 47 X-ray departments workers and the control group consisting of 38 persons, the number and percentage of CD19+, CD5+CD19+, CD27+CD19+ cells as well as CD5+CD19+/CD19+ and CD27+CD19+/CD19+ cell ratios were assessed using flow cytometry. Additionally, the study group was divided into 2 groups by the length of employment below and over 15 years and analysis adjusted for age and smoking habit was performed. Results: The total number of CD19+ cells showed significant increase in the group of workers in comparison with the persons from the control group, whereas the percentage of CD5+CD19+ cells as well as CD27+CD19+/CD19+ and CD5+CD19+/CD19+ cell ratios were lower. Percentage, number of CD5+CD19+ cells and CD5+CD19+/CD19+ cell ratio were significantly lower in the workers with length of employment longer than 15 years in comparison with those employed below 15 years. Moreover, we found positive associations between the number of CD19+ cells and employment as well as smoking habit, whereas the number of CD5+CD19+ cells was positively associated with cigarette smoking alone. Percentage of CD5+CD19+ cells as well as CD5+CD19+/CD19+ and CD27+CD19+/CD19+ cell ratios were negatively correlated with employment. Conclusions: The study suggests association between the suppressive influence of low level ionizing radiation on circulating in peripheral blood, especially of B1 cells as well as of memory B cells, in workers of X-ray units, which is adverse in relation to microbiological threat.

In the modern history global threats have never been visible to such degree and extent as it is at present. For several years for the needs of the World Economic Forum in Davos there have been analyzed fifty threats. The number of these threats is not becoming smaller, yet the degree to which some of them have influence does change. Global threats are becoming a great challenge for management sciences. There emerged an urgent demand for designing methods, processes and instruments of management. The paper presents those examples of threats that are present in each element of the macrosystem: economy-society-environment information-institutions as well as the conditionings and the manner of shaping the resistance of organizational units to these threats. The paper discusses the manner of understanding as well as the way of shaping its capacity. As the key instrument there was shown the National strategy of increasing the resistance to global threats. The strategy ought to constitute the collection of several strategies and detailed programs, e.g. it needs to comprise the Strategy of shaping the resistance to climate changes, long-term plan of national spatial management or the Program of counteracting social exclusion and poverty.

Opis:
An optimum nano-Se content in a diet of highly productive broilers has not been defined yet. Meanwhile, there are contradictory reports regarding effects of nano-Se on production traits and the etiology of possible positive effects. The aims of the present study were to test the hypothesis that low levels of nano-Se can improve productivity and metabolic functions during a 42-day-long broiler production cycle, to determine an optimum nano-Selenium (nano-Se) concentration of the diet, and finally to explore the etiology of these effects. One-hundred-eighty 1-day-old, male, Ross 308 broiler chicks were used in a completely randomized experiment, where the birds were placed in experimental pens, in three replicate pens of 10 chicks each, making a total of 18 experimental units. They were assigned diets with different nano-Selenium levels. All birds were fed an almost identical diet from 1 until 42 d, different only in the nano-Se content, namely: 1) control (CON) group 0.0 nano-Se, 2) NS1 group 0.1 mg kg-1 dietary nano-Se, 3) NS2 group 0.2 mg kg-1 dietary nano-Se, 4) NS3 group 0.3 mg kg-1 dietary nano-Se, 5) NS4 group 0.4 mg kg-1 dietary nano-Se, 6) NS5 group 0.5 mg kg-1 dietary nano-Se, supplied from 1 to 42 day of life. The significance level was declared at P<0.05. The final bird weight was higher and production cost was lower in NS3 and NS4 groups compared to CON, NS1 and NS5. The weight of an eviscerated carcass was lower in CON group compared to the other groups. The serum blood parameters as well as the weight of organs related with the immune system were not significantly different between groups. Nano-Se supplementation positively affected body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Higher BWG was achieved owing to better FCR rather than higher feed intake. The supplementation of 0.3-0.4 mg nano-Se kg-1 is the optimum level to be added as a feed additive in broiler diets, increasing animal productivity and diminishing environmental impact

Recently Polish courts have started to attach bank accounts of foreign embassies for the purpose of enforcement of judgements against embassies of foreign States in e.g. employment cases. The courts have applied the same principle to jurisdictional State immunity and immunity from enforcement and recognized that if state activities giving rise to the claims examined by courts were of private-law character, they are not protected either by jurisdictional or enforcement immunity. This standpoint is contrary to the dominant trend in other states’ practice, confirmed by the International Court of Justice in 2012 (Germany v. Italy: Greece Intervening). While in the field of jurisdictional immunity, the nature of an act as iure imperii or iure gestionis is decisive, in a case of immunity from enforcement – the allocation of the property against which enforcement measures are sought. Embassy bank accounts are generally covered by immunity from enforcement. In this situation Polish courts should develop convincing and exhaustive reasons why it is necessary for the protection of an individual to overrule the ne impediatur legatio principle. The judgements are not sufficiently reasoned and there is no good argument to support this stance. They expose Poland to international liability.

Bacterial lysates stimulate the general immunity of the body in a non-specific way. They act on non-specific defense mechanisms, leading to an increase in type A antibody in mucous membranes, phagocytic activity and INF-ƴ production. They can also stimulate the production of specific antibodies against the bacterial antigens that make up the preparation. The oral immunomodulatory preparations with the best documented clinical efficacy available on the Polish market are Ismigen, Broncho-Vaxom, Ribomunyl and Luivac. They are all lysates of bacterial strains that most often cause respiratory tract infections. In many clinical trials, oral bacterial lysates have been shown to minimize the risk of recurrent respiratory infections in children and adults and reduce the need for antibiotics.

Opis:
The objective of this study was to determine the stimulating effect of the Inter Yeast S dietary supplement on selected parameters of specific and non-specific humoral and cellular immunity in lambs. The study involved 32 lambs aged 30±3 days, divided into two equal groups: I - control, and II - experimental. Experimental group animals were fed a C-J concentrate mixed with a prebiotic, the Inter Yeast S, commercially available, containing dried brewer's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the amount of 3 g/kg of the concentrate. At the beginning of the experiment (day 0) and on the 15th, 30th and 60th day of the study, blood was sampled from the jugular vein to determine selected parameters of biochemical, specific and non-specific humoral and cellular immunity in lambs (total protein levels, gamma globulin levels, lysozyme activity, ceruloplasmin activity, proliferative response of blood lymphocytes (MTT) after stimulation with LPS or ConA, the metabolic activity (RBA) and potential killing activity (PKA) of phagocytes). As regards humoral immunity parameters, significantly higher gamma globulin levels and higher lysozyme and ceruloplasmin activity were found in blood serum of experimental lambs administered the Inter Yeast S, compared with those determined in control lambs not fed the supplement. No statistically significant differences in serum total protein were found between the control and experimental groups. An analysis of cellular immunity indicators revealed significantly higher levels of RBA and PKA, and higher proliferative response of blood lymphocytes (MTT) after stimulation with LPS and ConA in the experimental group, compared with those observed in the control group.

Z drugiej strony, leukocyty mogą realizować różne programy metaboliczne, celem pozyskania energii do walki z patogenami. Zależność pomiędzy funkcjami obronnymi a metabolizmem rzuca także nowe światło na zrozumienie mechanizmów chorób metabolicznych, a przede wszystkim kompleksowej odpowiedzi immunologicznej.
In recent years, a new branch of immunology called immunometabolism has been established. The discipline focuses on intracellular metabolic changes in immune cells that impact - influence their survival, development, as well as defense mechanisms. Here we provide a brief summary of basic and ancillary metabolic pathways which leukocytes utilize to obtain energy, with a special focus on glycolysis, TCA cycle, penthosophosphate pathway and fatty acid oxidation. Significance of the given metabolic path for leukocyte functioning, phenotype changes (e.g. M1 vs. M2 macrophages) and biochemical changes during activation is discussed. The metabolic changes can in fact shape the effector functions during inflammation, infection or tissue injury. On the other hand, leukocytes can adopt different metabolic programs to gain energy required to eliminate pathogens. An interplay between immunity and metabolism sheds new light on understanding of metabolic diseases but foremost on complex immune responses.

The paper presents selected problems of the coexistence of chronic pain and depression . It has been assumed that chronic pain and depression make two se parate ailments that often coexist. The phenomenon of the coexistence of physical symptoms (including pain) and depression have been widely popularised. Over 65% of patients with pain ailments suffer from depression that is often undiagnosed. The therapi sts specify this phenomenon as a “closed circle”, as it is not known what the beginning of its appearance was. On one hand, pain often hides the symptoms of depression so effectively that its recognition by a physician seems impossible; on the other, it is known that chronic pain causes continual lowering of mood and depression that increases pain ailments. Moreover, the existence of common neurobiological mechanisms makes depression and pain escalate mutually.

The paper aims to comment on the judgment of the International Court of Justice of 2nd February 2012 in the case of Jurisdictional Immunities of the State between Germany and Italy from the perspective of the problem of jurisdictional immunity. In its decision concerning compensation for atrocities suffered by Italian citizens during World War  II granted by Italian courts against the German State as well as the execution of the analogical decisions of Greek courts, the International Court of Justice upheld the immunity of the German State. The compensation sought by the plaintiffs in the national proceedings was to redress massacres on the civil population, deportations and forced labour. In its decision the Court analyzed the exception proposed by Italy in three strands which, according to the Respondent, cumulatively would result in an exception to the rule of state immunity. Firstly, the acts giving rise to the Italian claims constituted grave violations of humanitarian law; secondly, the rules of law violated constitute peremptory norms of international law; thirdly, no other form of redress was available rendering the exercise of jurisdiction by the Italian court to be a measure of a last resort for the victims.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) – small, conserved RNA molecules, containing 22 to 25 nucleotides and occurring in the cells of living organisms. As regulatory molecules, they have enormous biological potential and can influence a number of cellular processes. In the context of immunology, the role of miRNAs as novel immunity regulators is invaluable. The miRNAs regulate immune phenomena at many levels - starting from the impact on the processes of maturation, proliferation and differentiation of the immune system cells, through the regulation of the secretion of their products, to the regulation of intracellular signalling pathways. In all these areas, the miRNAs can play the role of both an inducer and an inhibitor by appropriately increasing the intensity of or suppressing the immune processes they regulate. In the future, it will be possible to regulate the host’s immune response to the pathogen thanks to the properly controlled expression of miRNAs in the immune system cells.

Opis:
Antibiotics are widely used in the therapy of infections. Besides the respective interactions between antibiotics and pathogens it seems that antibiotics also directly interact with the immune system. Some commonly used antibiotics are currently known to have effects on the innate immune response, as shown by in vitro, ex vivo and also in vivo animal experiments and clinical studies. Most of the experimental papers published to date, as well as most reviews, relate to how antibiotics affect the innate immune response or non-specific monocyte or lymphocyte proliferation. However the effects of antibiotics on the adaptive immune response are still not well characterized. This review of the literature considering different in vivo experiments indicate the real importance of interrelations existing between acquired immune responses and antibiotics, however, the mechanism of immunomodulatory effects of antibiotics are still poorly understood. Currently, data on the immunomodulating effects of antibiotics often remain heterogeneous, contradictory or insufficient, but most results published to date revealed the immunosuppressive effect of antibiotics on the antigen- specific immune response in vivo. In pigs as well as in poultry herds, it is not uncommon practice to add antibiotics to drinking water or feed at the time of vaccination. Information on the effects of such practices on the immune system of animals is restricted and more in vivo studies are needed to investigate the effects of antimicrobial drugs on the immune system, especially in the field conditions.

State immunity is based on the principle of sovereign equality of all states which is one of the main principles of international legal order. Predominant jurisprudence of national courts as well as international courts and tribunals follows the position that in case when a claim is submitted in a court in the forum-state due to war crimes and crimes against humanity, a foreign state possesses state immunity which excludes jurisdiction of national courts. There is a strong tendency in international law to limit state immunity and exclude from its scope claims concerning the aforementioned crimes, in case they were committed on the forum-state’s territory). However the International Court of Justice assumed that the immunity is of a procedural nature and it has to be evaluated in each case on the day of adjudication. Hence, in future cases relating to war crimes and crimes against humanity may be considered in forum-state’s courts.

Passive immunity is defined as a particular antigen resistance provided by external antibodies. It can be either naturally or artificially acquired. Natural passive immunization occurs during pregnancy and breast-feeding in mammals and during hatching in birds. Maternal antibodies are passed through the placenta and milk in mammals and through the egg yolk in birds. Artificial passive immunity is acquired by injection of either serum from immunized (or infected) individuals or antibody preparations. Many independent research groups worked on selection, verification and detailed characterization of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against the influenza virus. Numerous antibody preparations were tested in a variety of in vitro and in vivo experiments for their efficacy to neutralize the virus. Here, we describe types of antibodies tested in such experiments and their viral targets, review approaches resulting in identification of broadly neutralizing antibodies and discuss methods used to demonstrate their protective effects. Finally, we shortly discuss the phenomenon of maternal antibody transfer as a way of effective care for young individuals and as an interfering factor in early vaccination.

Marine invertebrates depend upon antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as a major component of innate immunity, as they are rapidly synthesized and diffuse upon pathogen invasion. In this study, we report the identification and characterization of a 11 kDa antimicrobial protein, which we name SSAP (for Scylla serrata antimicrobial protein), from granular hemocytes of the mangrove crab S. serrata. The protein is highly similar to scygonadin, a male-specific AMP isolated from the ejaculatory duct of S. serrata. SSAP was isolated using various chromatographic techniques, viz. ion-exchange, ultra filtration and RP-HPLC, and demonstrated antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Full length mRNA encoding SSAP was amplified using a combination of RT-PCR and RACE. The nucleotide sequence revealed a full-length ORF of 381 bp coding for a preprotein of 126 amino acids comprising a signal peptide of 24 amino acids and a mature protein of 102 amino acids with a predicted mass of 11435 Da and pI of 5.70. Unlike scygonadin, SSAP is expressed in several tissues of both male and female crabs, as evidenced by RT-PCR, Northern and Western blot analyses. The study suggests that SSAP might be an isoform or a variant of scygonadin and might play an important role in regulating the immunity of the crab upon microbial infection.

Endogenous peptide antibiotics are known as evolutionarily old components of innate immunity. However, some studies proved that antimicrobial peptides are universal multifunctional molecules and their functions extend far beyond simple antibiotics. In this review we present an overview of the general mechanism of action of antimicrobial peptides and discuss some of their additional properties, like antitumour activity, mitogenic activity, role in signal transduction pathways and adaptive immune response.

Introduction. Human T-cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1 & 2) are frequent co-pathogens among immunosuppressed individuals, particularly HIV/AIDS infected persons. Dual infected persons usually present with false normal or high CD4+ T cells count as a result of the ability of HTLV to induce clonal proliferation of CD4+ T lymphocytes. There is paucity of information on this clinical entity in Nigeria. Aim. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of HTLV-1/2 and associated cellular immune response among antiretroviral naïve and experienced HIV infected persons at Bauchi State, Nigeria. Material and methods. One hundred and eighty two (182) HIV seropositive patients’ blood samples were analyzed for anti HTLV-1/2 IgM and IgG antibodies using ELISA while CD4+ T cells were counted using Flow cytometry technique. Socio-demographic data of the subjects and clinical history were obtained via questionnaire and medical records, respectively. Results. The seroprevalence of anti-HTLV-1/2 was 14%. This comprised 76 (41.8%) males and 106 (58.2%) females. Six (3%) were seropositive for both ant-HTLV -1&2 IgM and IgG. Of the total positive for anti-HTLV-1/2, 20 (25%) ART-naïve and 6(5.9%) ART-experience subjects. Whole blood CD4+ T cell count was significantly high in HTLV-1/-2 IgG/IgM seropositive subjects compared to their HTLV-1/-2 negative counterpart. Conclusion. All subjects (100%) who were HTLV-1/-2/HIV co-infected had normal to higher CD4+ T cell counts. It is suggested to be very careful in using only CD4+ counts to monitor HIV progression or as indicators for ART.

Opis:
In the twenty-first century, we are constantly facing allergic diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancers. Despite the genetic predisposition to the above-mentioned diseases, there is a possibility of supporting the organism with substances with immunomodulatory properties, such as vitamin D. Although it has been known so far mainly for the regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism, its role in supporting the immune system is being discovered. The evidence for this is the demonstration that genes regulated by vitamin Dencode proteins involved in the processes of cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis and the detection of vitamin D receptors in cells of the immune system – thymus, B and T lymphocytes and bone marrow. Vitamin D occurs in foods of animal origin in the form of cholecalciferol, and in plant products in the ergocalciferol form. Cholecalciferol can also be obtained through the synthesis by human skin under the influence of UVB radiation. In Poland, there is a common deficiency of vitamin D – during summer, on average, 50% of the population is deficient, while in the winter, this percentage increases to 80%. The deficiency may predispose to many diseases. The objective of this paper was to examine the potential impact of vitamin D in terms of preventing and/or improving selected autoimmune and allergic diseases. Clinical studies in the scientific literature have been analyzed to determine the influence of vitamin D supplementation on the prevention and/or course of cancer in adults, autoimmune diseases in adults, and allergic diseases in children and adults. The conclusions are based on a meta-analysis of 8 clinical studies and 1 in vitro study on cell culture. The results of the study show that the compensation of 25(OH)D deficiency results in a milder course of systemic lupus erythematosus and Hashimoto’s disease. The supplementation of at least 1,200 IU of vitamin D reduces the incidence of cancer by an average of 35% among adults at risk compared to people without supplementation. The recommended intake of vitamin D by pregnant women also reduces the risk of allergic diseases in children from age 1 to 10. Moreover, vitamin D (2000 IU) supplementation in adults suffering from asthma supports a milder course of asthma and reduces the incidence of upper respiratory tract infections compared to the group not using supplementation.

Opis:
The last two decades of study enriched greatly our knowledge of how the immune system originated and the sophisticated immune mechanisms of today's vertebrates and invertebrates developed. Even unicellular organisms possess mechanisms for pathogen destruction and self recognition. The ability to distinguish self from non-self is a prerequisite for recognition of sexual compatibility and ensuring survival. Molecules involved in these processes resemble those found in the phagocytic cells of higher organisms. Recognition of bacteria by scavenger receptors induces phagocytosis or endocytosis. The phagocytic mechanisms characterizing the amoeboid protozoans developed further during the evolution towards innate immunity. The scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domain SRCR is encoded in the genomes from the most primitive sponges to mammals. The immune system of sponges comprises signal transduction molecules which occur in higher metazoans as well. Sponges already possess recognition systems for pathogenic bacteria and fungi, based on membrane receptors (a lipopolysaccharide-interacting protein, a cell surface receptor recognizing β(1 → 3)-d-glucans of fungi). Perforin-like molecules and lysozymes are involved, among others, in defense in sponges. Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species function in the immunity of early metazoan. Genes encoding the family of reactive oxygen-generating NADPH oxidases (Noxes) are found in a variety of protists and plants. The NO synthases of cnidarians, mollusks, and chordates are conserved with respect to the mammalian NOS. The antimicrobial peptides of protozoans, amoebapores, are structural and functional analogs of the natural killer cell peptide, NK-lysin, of vertebrates. An ancestral S-type lectin has been found in sponges. Opsonizing properties of lectins and the ability to agglutinate cells justify their classification as primitive recognition molecules. Invertebrate cytokines are not homologous to those of vertebrate, and their functional convergence was presumably enabled by the general similarity of the lectin-like recognition domain three-dimensional structure. Sponges contain molecules with SCR/CCP domains that show high homology to the mammalian regulators of complement activation (RCA family). A multi-component complement system comprising at least the central molecule of the complement system, C3, Factor B, and MASP developed in the cnidarians and evolved into the multilevel cascade engaged in innate and acquired immunity of vertebrates. The adaptive immune system of mammals is also deeply rooted in the metazoan evolution. Some its precursors have been traced as deep as in sponges, namely, two classes of receptors that comprise Ig-like domains, the receptor tyrosine kinases (RTK), and the non-enzymic sponge adhesion molecules (SAM). The antibody-based immune system defined by the presence of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), T-cell receptor (TCR), B-cell receptor (BCR) or recombination activating genes (RAGs) is known beginning from jawed fishes. However, genes closely resembling RAG1 and RAG2 have been uncovered in the genome of a see urchin. The ancestry of MHC gene remains unknown. Similarly, no homologue of the protein binding domain (PBD) in MHC molecules has been found in invertebrates. The pathway by which endogenous peptides are degraded for presentation with class I MHC molecules utilizes mechanisms similar to those involved in the normal turnover of intracellular proteins, apparently recruited to work also for the immune system. Several cDNAs coding for lysosomal enzymes, e.g., cathepsin, have been isolated from sponges. All chromosomal duplication events in the MHC region occurred after the origin of the agnathans but before the gnathostomes split from them. The V-domains of the subtype found in the receptors of T and B-cells are known from both agnathans and cephalochordates, although they do not rearrange. The rearrangement mechanism of the lymphocyte V-domains suggests its origin from a common ancestral domain existing before the divergence of the extant gnathostome classes. Activation-induced deaminase (AID) - homologous proteins have been found only in the gnathostomes. It appears thus that the adaptive immunity of vertebrates is a result of stepwise accumulation of small changes in molecules, cells and organs over almost half a billion years.

GNSS systems are susceptible to radio interference despite then operating in a spread spectrum. The commerce jammers power up to 2 watts that can block the receiver function at a distance of up to 15 kilometers in free space. Two original methods for GNSS receiver testing were developed. The first method is based on the usage of a GNSS simulator for generation of the satellite signals and a vector signal RF generator for generating different types of interference signals. The second software radio method is based on a software GNSS simulator and a signal processing in Matlab. The receivers were tested for narrowband CW interference, FM modulated signal and chirp jamming signals, and scenarios. The signal to noise ratio usually drops down to 27 dBc-Hz while the jamming to signal ratio is different for different types of interference. The chirp signal is very effective. The jammer signal is well propagated in free space while in the real mobile urban and suburban environment it is usually strongly attenuated.

The reason for calling the synod in Borzykowa was the bull “Significavit nobis” issued in 1210 by Pope Innocent III, which renewed the principle of seniority. At the synod, the possibilities of counteracting the effects of this bull were discussed. The bishops were also to approve Leszek the White’s right to hold the Kraków throne. During the synod, prince Władysław Odonic granted the Cistercian order a land in the castellany of Przemyśl in order to establish a monastery. In turn, the knight Sławosz resumed granting Sławoszów to the monastery in Busko. According to historiography, the dukes issued a set of privileges, including a great privilege for the Church (privilegium fori, ius spolii). The Borzykowski privilege became the basis for the independence of the Church from the Piast monarchy in district Poland.

In recent years a cryptographic community is paying a lot of attention to the constructions of so called resilient functions for use mainly in stream cipher systems. Very little work however has been devoted to random generation of such functions. This paper tries to fill that gap and presents an algorithm that can generate at random highly nonlinear resilient functions. Generated functions are analyzed and compared to the results obtained from the best know constructions and some upper bounds on nonlinearity and resiliency. It is shown that randomly generated functions achieve in most cases results equal to the best known designs, while in other cases fall just behind such constructs. It is argued that the algorithm can perhaps be used to prove the existence of some resilient functions for which no mathematical prove has been given so far.

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of dietary addition of dried purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench) on selected blood parameters of chicks and hens of the native ‘Greenleg Partridge’ breed (Z-11), maintained on a certified poultry farm according to organic farming principles. Birds were divided into two groups according to diet: organic layer diet (group 1), and the same diet supplemented with certified purple coneflower from 20 weeks of age at 10 g/kg feed (group 2). Layers were fed the certified layer diet (17% protein and 11.1 MJ ME/kg diet) following organic farming principles. Experimental incubations were performed at 34 wks of age. Blood was collected from laying hens at 34 wks and from newly hatched chicks at one day of age to determine selected blood parameters. The organically raised ‘Greenleg Partridge’ hens and chicks responded to the purple coneflower supplement by changes in blood picture, which are important indicators of avian health and condition. As in Z-11 chicks, purple coneflower supplemented to the layer diet reduced the H:L ratio and induced a tendency for higher level of the immunoglobulin complex and IgG in blood, which shows their better living comfort and higher immunity. Dietary purple coneflower was observed to have no effect on the level of hematocrit, erythrocytes and leukocytes. High individual variation occurred for the immunoglobulin complex and IgG in the organically raised ‘Greenleg Partridge’ hens.

The lack of legal regulations on permissible disturbance level in the frequency range from 2.5 kHz to 150 kHz has also been mentioned. This range is considered high frequency by the authors. Standarized compatibility levels and sample measured parameters of the electromagnetic environment have also been shown. An exemplary reaction of the drive to the most common disturbances in the power supply system has been presented.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to determine the current form of parliamentary immunity in various countries. The author uses the comparative-law method to analyse constitutions that represent the most common solutions, taking into account the geographic criterion, used in countries located on different continents and having different legal cultures. The author analyses the subjective scope of non-accountability and non-violability and focuses on the time and place in which the protection is provided, and trace the objective scope of the protection and the solutions related to the possibility to lift the parliamentary immunities. The analysis leads to the conclusion that non-accountability is similar in different countries, has undergone few modifications over the years, and it is permanently formed. In the case of non-violability, there are more extensive differences, in particular in the objective scope and the degree of protection. However, various solutions prove that there is not a single universally accepted model of immunity and that the scope of the guaranteed protection can be more diverse, it can be subject to change, and be adapted to the changes in political systems and the political and social expectations.

The article includes the author's considerations on risk of survival and chance to survive of \ individual persons and the human species in conditions of progressive environmental degradation because of the progress of post-industrial civilization, especially the Western one. The development of this civilization is driven by the rapid advances in knowledge and technology, but above all by activities for maximum economic growth and its derivatives - unlimited growth in production, sales and consumption. So, naturally, it is accompanied by excessive destruction of natural resources and degradation of the natural environment, as well as of degradation of the social, cultural and spiritual environment. On the one hand, the consequence of the progress of Western civilization is the growing threat to human health, and thus the increasing risk of survival. On the other hand, thanks to this progress, they improve living conditions and comfort as well as the possibilities of curing many diseases; thus, they increase the chances to survive. The problem, however, is that this increase in risks and chances is not equivalent as they appear many more threats than chances. As a result, this imbalance is getting bigger. Political and economic decision-makers, who can hardly be suspected of a lack of knowledge about environmental threats, are primarily driven by profit maximization and therefore they ignore the appeals from environmentalists. Therefore, since the last decades of the twentieth century, it progress the development of "economic society". It is made up of individuals called "Homo oeconomicus" - fanatical followers of God Mammon. There are serious concerns that it will soon end either with the extinction of humanity or with the collapse of Western civilization. And what happens depends on whether further social evolution will follow economic or other (cultural or ecological) criteria, whether the most important goal will be to improve the quality of life and enrichment, or to delay the extinction of humanity as a result of the transformation of "economic society" into "Cultural society"

In the light of existing international law it is not possible to hold the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation criminally or civilly responsible before the courts of other countries (except for an action before the Russian courts) or the International Criminal Court. Claiming compensation from the Russian Federation for shooting the Malaysia Airlines aircraft is available before the Russian in compliance with Russian law, or before international courts only through interstate litigation, provided that the parties agree to accept the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice or international arbitration and that the preconditions of responsibility are fulfilled. Claiming is also possible in the context of diplomatic protection, and – in case of actions by individuals against Russia – only before the European Court of Human Rights, after exhaustion of domestic legal remedies and demonstrating that Russia has committed a violation of the rights protected by the European Convention of Human Rights of 1950.

The article focuses on the principles of criminal responsibility of the President of Supreme Audit Office. This is a very current topic according to the recent legal acts concerning the procedure of derogation of legal immunity of the president of Supreme Audit Office. This new regulation – although not yet applied – bear many doubts on their legal construction. The author tries to explain some of the doubts and paralelly makes some de lege ferenda conclusions that may guarantee to the President of Supreme Audit Office the right to defense while simultaneously preserve the effectiveness of penal reaction.

We followed changes in the level of phospho-MAP kinases in the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella after infection with Bacillus thuringiensis. We observed an enhanced level of phosphorylated p38 and JNK in fat bodies of the infected larvae. In hemocytes, injection of B. thuringiensis caused the highest increase in phospho-JNK, however, all pathways were activated after aseptic injection. We report that Galleria mellonella larvae exposed to heat shock before infection showed an enhanced level of phosphorylated JNK in fat body. This finding is relevant in the light of our previous reports, which submit evidence that pre-shocked animals are more resistant to infection.

Fungi contain a number of biologically active substances whose importance for human health has been confirmed in several studies. These substances play an important role in shaping the immune system and prevent cancer. β-Glucans reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and lower the cholesterol level.

The authors discuss new data on morbidity rates and susceptibility to HIV infection, next to the progress of AIDS. They quote the current epidemiological data, which show that in Central and Western European countries the epidemic proceeds differently than in other regions of the world, so that it does not meet here pessimistic predictions about the expected rise of morbidity and mortality rates. The authors then focused on highlighting the detected differences in genetic and immunological state of recently discerned groups of patients, whose symptoms of AIDS do not appear for more than 10 years (LTNP – long term nonprogressors), and patients characterized by rapid disease progression (RP – rapid progressors), and in particular, people resistant to infection despite intensive exposure (EU-exposed uninfected). Discussed and detected differences enable to undertaken reasonable eff orts to develop an effective vaccine. What is more, the authors also mentioned the fi rst results achieved through new research methods, such as testing all genes (whole genome) of many individuals to detect differences occurring from individual to individual (genome-wide association study – GWA) or determination of all the particles within RNA profiles concerning a population of given cells (genome-wide transcriptome profiling study), which can only be undertaken by a very well equipped research centers.

Knowledge of the impact of hyperbaric conditions, especially hyperbaric oxygen, on human and animal organisms, is of great theoretical and practical importance, particularly in reference to the increased application of hyperbaric oxygen for therapeutic purposes. It must be said that unfortunately our knowledge on the impact of hyperbaria, including oxygen hyperbaria, on the immunological response of the animal and human organisms is still not sufficient and is incomplete. The Institute of the Naval Medicine of the Naval Academy in Gdynia has been carrying out tests in this field for some years now. The tests have been carried out on animals (rabbits, guinea pigs) as well as on humans (commercial divers, scuba divers, and candidates to these activities) within immunology investigations. The impact of hyperbaric oxygen at pressures ranging between 2.8 and 3.1 ata, in single or multiple expositions, have been tested as well as the relations between hyperbaria in air and the different conditions of the exposure. The study revealed important shifts in the immunological response of both the animals and humans.

This structure of the light field in the smoke flow allows to generate the algorithm of signals selection produced by the smoke particles with characteristic sizes and velocities. The result is increased stability of the smoke detector under the influence of external noise such as dust, vapor with different sizes of smoke particles and/or velocities. There are carried out model experiments on registration of time signals that are generated by particles of different sizes, crossing the plane of the beam focusing. The spectral characteristics of the recorded signals are researched. There are identificated possible algorithms for selection of signals generated by micro formations with specified medium size and speed of movement.

The Belgian courts and the ECtHR treating the Holy See as a state is an over-inter-pretation. The Holy See cannot be treated as a foreign sovereign. This is a historical anachronism. At the very most, we can speak of the so-called ‘spiritual sovereignty’ of the Holy See, which his related to the fact that it is the governing body of the Catholic Church. However, it has no public-law powers over church structures and its followers. The Church is a voluntary international private association of natural persons. It has no administrative power over its members. The Holy See has a superior position over bishops. Therefore, it should also be responsible for the lack of a proper reaction by these church leaders to the sexual abuse of the clergy subordinate to them. In the past, the Catholic Church operated a policy of silence (omerta) based on clericalism. The pontificate of Pope Francis brought about fun-damental changes in this area. However, the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights of October 12, 2021 is procrastinating and will probably trigger what can be termed a ‘chilling effect’. What takes precedence is the good of the influential institution – the Holy See – and not those individuals wronged in their childhood.

The author of the gloss discusses three theoretical concepts regarding the influence of judicial and prosecutorial immunity on the stoppage of the flow of the period of limitation of prosecution. The author is for a thesis that, according to Article 104 § 1 of the Criminal Code, formal immunity creates a legal obstacle to the further course of a proceeding, namely to the transition of the proceeding into a phase in personam, already when the prosecutor applies for permission to prosecute a person granted immunity.

Opis:
Plant viruses cause crop losses in agronomically and economically important crops, making global food security a challenge. Although traditional plant breeding has been effective in controlling plant viral diseases, it is unlikely to solve the problems associated with the frequent emergence of new and more virulent virus species or strains. As a result, there is an urgent need to develop alternative virus control strategies that can be used to more easily contain viral diseases. A better understanding of plant defence mechanisms will open up new avenues for research into plant-pathogen interactions and the development of broad-spectrum virus resistance. T he scientific literature was evaluated and structured in this review, and the results of the reliability of the methods of analysis used were filtered. As a result, we described the molecular mechanisms by which viruses interact with host plant cells. To develop an effective strategy for the control of plant pathogens with a significant intensity on the agricultural market, clear and standardised recommendations are required. The current review will provide key insights into the molecular underpinnings underlying the coordination of plant disease resistance, such as main classes of resistance genes, RNA interference, and the RNA-mediated adaptive immune system of bacteria and archaea - clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated Cas proteins - CRISPR/Cas. Future issues related to resistance to plant viral diseases will largely depend on integrated research to transfer fundamental knowledge to applied problems, bridging the gap between laboratory and field work.

Opis:
This review presents data on commercial and experimental virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines, including description of VLP vaccines against influenza. Virus-like particles are multimeric, sometimes multiprotein nanostructures assembled from viral structural proteins and are devoid of any genetic material. VLPs present repetitive high-density displays of viral surface proteins. Importantly, they contain functional viral proteins responsible for cell penetration by the virus, ensuring efficient cell entry and thus tissue-specific targeting, determined by the origin of the virus. The foremost application of VLPs is in vaccinology, where they provide delivery systems that combine good safety profiles with strong immunogenicity and constitute a safe alternative to inactivated infectious viruses. These stable and versatile nanoparticles display excellent adjuvant properties capable of inducing innate and cognate immune responses. They present both, high-density B-cell epitopes, for antibody production and intracellular T- cell epitopes, thus inducing, respectively, potent humoral and cellular immune responses. Uptake of VLPs by antigen-presenting cells leads to efficient immune responses resulting in control of pathogenic microorganisms.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę właściwości materiałów stosowanych na płyty form cegły silikatowej. Badano płyty dwóch producentów. Na podstawie badań mikroskopowych określono mechanizm zużycia płyt. W procesie powstawania ubytków dominował proces bruzdowania i mikroskrawania.
The analysis of properties of the materials used to prepare the plates lime brick form was presented. The plates produced by two different companies were studied. Based on micrography, the mechanism of plate wear was described. During the process of material loss, processes of furrowing and micro-cutting dominated. After the study of plate core hardness, its surface micro-hardness and chemical constitution it was concluded that both plates were made of this same alloy steel used for heat-chemical treatment, which was carried out in different conditions for those plates. The plate which contained a phase with chromium in its surface layer was characterized by increased micro-hardness resulting in higher resistance to wear.

EMC immunity tests
open-area partially shielded test site model
Opis:
The question of testing of vehicles and their subassemblies, especially in the range of electrical and electronic equipment, is very extensive. The scope of the relevant tests becomes wider and the requirements, especially in the range of safety, reliability and comfort, become higher. Of particular significance, are in recent years, tests concerning electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of whole vehicles and their subassemblies. A survey of basic standardized EMC test methods is presented in the paper. Moreover, an alternative test method of vehicle immunity worked out by authors is proposed. The method has been verified by using the open-area partially shielded test site (OAPSTS) model and compared with standardized methods contained in ECE UN Regulation No. 10 and EU Directive 2004/104/EC. Tests of vehicle immunity to electromagnetic field have been performed using the model of OAPSTS and the vehicles: Citroen-Berlingo, Skoda-Octavia and Daewoo-Lanos. Estimation of basic statistical parameters has also been worked out. The obtained results show that the proposed method is reliable and, on the other hand, it is more accessible and less expensive than the standardized methods in which employing of very expensive absorber-lined shielded test chambers is necessary. The present paper extends the results obtained in [6, 7].

Relationships between milk β-carotene concentrations and the cytological quality of cow’s milk. The objective of the study was to describe the relationship between milk β-carotene concentration and the cytological quality of milk of high yielding cows. The experiment was carried out at the research dairy farm of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS). From a herd of 320 Polish Holstein Friesian cows maintained in a free–stall dairy shed 58 cows were selected taking into consideration the stage of lactation (15±14 days). Cows were fed a total mixed ration (TMR) diet provided ad libitum. Four groups of cows taking into consideration concentration of β–carotene in milk has been created: 1) <150 mg L-1; 2) 151-250 mg L-1; 3) 251-450 mg L-1; 4) > 450 mg L-1. The content of β–carotene and SCC amounted at the herd level: 192 tys ml-1 and 0.312 mgL -1 respectively. The β–carotene content ranged from 0.150 to 0.451 mgL-1. The highest content of β–carotene, 0.451 mgL-1, was found in milk of cows with the lowest level of somatic cells count (SCC). The lowest level, 0.150 mgL-1, was found in milk of cows with the highest level of SCC. Milk SCC varies significantly with the concentration of β-carotene in cow’s milk. Researchers should consider monitoring for this variable as potential cofounder when exploring the relationship between mastitis, intramammary infection and nutritional management.

Opis:
The aim of the study was the determination of IgA, IgM and IgG concentrations in porcine serum and colostrum, in order to evaluate their variations in the perinatal period, as well as to clarify whether there is a correlation between colostrum intake, initial level of immunoglobulins (Ig) in piglet serum and development of their own immunity. The mean IgA, IgM and IgG concentrations in sow serum 10 days before parturition were 1.58, 6.12 and 39.56 mg/ml, respectively. Seven days later only the IgG level was insignificantly lower (34.94 mg/ml, p=0.55), while concentrations of IgA and IgM increased to 2.25 and 7.25 mg/ml, respectively (p=0.23 and 0.62, respectively). The mean initial IgG concentration in colostrum at farrowing was 118.5 mg/ml and differed between sows. The average value of IgA in colostrum at birth was 23.8 mg/ml and decreased to 7.85 mg/ml at 6 hours (h) and to 4.59 mg/ml at 24 h after the onset of farrowing. IgM concentration at birth was 12.1 mg/ml and decreased to 4.23 mg/ml at 24 h postpartum. Positive relationships were found between concentrations of IgM and IgA in serum of piglets at 14 and 56 days of life (r = 0.41 and 0.80, respectively, p≤0.05) as well as for IgG concentration in the piglets serum at 7 days and 56 days of age (r = 0.48, p≤0.05). The above observations suggest that there is a correlation between the level of Ig in piglet serum in the first days of life and improvement of their own immunity.

Opis:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, care for an adequate diet, well adapted to the body's needs and the current level of physical activity, becomes of particular importance. Many dietary compounds participate in the functioning of the immune system, while vitamins D, C, A (including beta-carotene), E, B6, B12, folic acid, zinc, copper, selenium, iron, amino acids, n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and intestinal microbiota are crucial in various types of defence processes. There has been no evidence that consumed food and its compounds, including those with pro-/prebiotic properties, play a significant role in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection or alleviating its course. However, in terms of the nutritional value of food and the prevention of dysbiosis, recommending a varied diet with a high proportion of plant-based foods and an adequate amount of animal-based foods has a sound scientific basis. Malnutrition, underweight and obesity are considered independent and prognostic risk factors of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection, which reduce a patient's chances of survival. Therefore, ensuring good nutritional status, including healthy body weight, is a reasonable approach in the prevention of viral infection SARS-CoV-2 or alleviating its course. The document is accompanied by two catalogues of practical nutritional recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic, addressed to the general population and children.
