    Introduction. Numerous publications indicate that the prevalence of some infectious, neoplastic and immunological diseases are associated with ABO blood groups. Objective. The aim of this study was to verify whether ABO and Rh blood groups are associated with severe anaphylactic reactions after Hymenoptera stings. Materials and Method. A study was undertaken of 71,441 Caucasian subjects living in the same geographic area. The study group included 353 patients with diagnosed systemic anaphylaxis to Hymenoptera venom. Control group included 71,088 healthy blood donors. Frequencies of ABO and Rhesus groups in the study and control groups were compared using univariate and multivariate analyses. Results. No statistically significant interactions were observed between the ABO blood group and anaphylactic reactions to Hymenoptera.

    On 11 July 2020 a female Parnopes grandior (Pallas. 1771) (Photos 1, 2) was observed on sandy fallow fields near the village of Zdory (Pisz municipality) on the eastern edge of the Masurian Landscape Park. It was the second record of this species in the Masurian Lake District and the first after almost a hundred years.

    Opis:
    Two parasitoid wasps, Torymus artemisiae Mayr and Torymoides violaceus (Nikol’skaya), were reared on Artemisia herba-alba (Asteraceae) galles, in central Iran. Torymus artemisiae and T. violaceus were developed from the gall midges: Rhopalomyia navasi Tavares and R. hispanica Tavares, respectively. The occurrence of these two parasitic wasps in Iran, and their associations with R. navasi and R. hispanica, are new. Data on the wasps’ biological associations and geographical distribution are provided. The parasitoid compositions of the genus Rhopalomyia (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) were also discussed.

    Introduction and objectives. The study aimed at evaluating the impact of Hymenoptera venom allergy (HVA) in children and adolescents, on their parents’ QoL, taking into account their socio-demographic characteristics. Materials and method. The study sample consisted of 101 parents of children and adolescents aged 9–17 years, with a history of systemic reaction after insect sting who were referred for consultations in the tertiary level allergology department. The mean age of the parents was 39 years (SD=8.1; range 25–65 years); the majority were mothers (68%) and rural inhabitants (62%). QoL in parents of HVA children and adolescents was measured with the Parents of Children with Hymenoptera Venom Allergy Quality of Life Scale, a questionnaire covering 5 dimensions: anxiety, caution, limitations and discomfort, support provided to the child and feeling of safety, each measured on the scale ranging from 1 to 5. Independent predictors of QoL were estimated using the Generalized Linear Model. Results. Parents of urban children and adolescents treated with venom immunotherapy (VIT) up to 3 years (B=-1.37, 95CI= (-2.22;-0.53); p=0.001) and of rural children treated for more than 3 years (B=-0.94, 95CI=(-1.55;-0.33); p=0.003) reported lower anxiety than parents studied at diagnosis. In urban parents, individuals studied at VIT beginning reported a lower feeling of safety (B=-0.63, 95CI=(-1.11;-0.15); p=0.010); those studied up to 3 years of treatment reported a higher feeling of safety (B=0.64, 95CI=(0.11;1.16); p=0.018) than those studied at diagnosis. Contrariwise, in rural parents, those studied at the beginning of immunotherapy reported a higher feeling of safety than those studied at diagnosis (B=0.51, 95CI=(0.13;0.88); p=0.008). Conclusions. The longest VIT duration in children and adolescents with HVA is related to the decreased anxiety of their parents. Parent’s feeling of safety depends on the stage of treatment and place of residence.

    The research was carried out in the years 1991–1994 in agricultural landscape of medium mosaic degree in the area of Łęczyca. It covered parasitoids of the Pimplinae subfamily (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae), inhabiting refugium habitats such as shrubberies, field borders, roadsides and forest edges. The method used was scooping in order to catch imagos. 48 species were found, which made up 36.1% of this subfamily’s domestic fauna and 63.1% of those reported for Wielkopolska. Dominant species were Endromopoda detrita (Holmgr.) (D = 19.5%), Itoplectis maculator (F.) (D = 11.5%), I. alternans (Grav.) (D = 11.3%), Pimpla contemplator (Muell.) (D = 9.2%) and Zaglyptus multicolor (Grav.) (D = 7.1%). The greatest species diversity was reported from the forest edge (34 species), while the highest number was found in the shrubberies (268 individuals). The greatest stability of species composition was found in the shrubbery communities. The greatest species similarity between communities was reported for the shrubberies and the forest edge (SM = 53.5%). The highest similarity in terms of quantity occurred between the groups on the field border and road edge (Re = 64.5%).
    Badania prowadzono w latach 1991–1994 w krajobrazie rolniczym o średnim stopniu mozaikowatości w okolicach Łęczycy. Badaniami objęto parazytoidy z podrodziny Pimplinae (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae), zasiedlające środowiska ostojowe w postaci zakrzewień, miedz, przydroży i skrajów lasu. Wykorzystano metodę czerpakowania w celu odłowu imagines. Stwierdzono występowanie 48 gatunków, które stanowiły 36,1% fauny krajowej tej podrodziny i 63,1% wykazanych z Wielkopolski. Gatunkami dominującymi były Endromopoda detrita (Holmgr.) (D = 19,5%), Itoplectis maculator (F.) (D = 11,5%), I. alternans (Grav.) (D = 11,3%), Pimpla contemplator (Muell.) (D = 9,2%) i Zaglyptus multicolor (Grav.) (D = 7,1%). Wykazano najwyższe zróżnicowanie gatunkowe na skraju lasu (34 gatunki), i najwyższą liczebność w zakrzewieniach (268 osobników). Stwierdzono największą stabilność składu gatunkowego zgrupowań występujących w zakrzewieniach. Wykazano największe podobieństwo gatunkowe pomiędzy zgrupowaniami stwierdzonymi w zakrzewieniach i na skraju lasu (SM = 53,5%). Stwierdzono największe podobieństwo w kategoriach ilościowych pomiędzy zgrupowaniami występującymi na miedzy i przydrożu (Re = 64,5%).

    Pseudoxyelocerus bascharagensis gen. et sp. nov., the oldest representative of the Tenthredinoidea and Xyelotomidae, based of a single forewing, and an enigmatic “Symphyta” family incertae sedis, based on a hindwing, are described from the Toarcian of Luxembourg. The relationships of the genera currently included in Xyelotomidae are briefly discussed. The genera Undatoma, Liaotoma, Leridatoma, and Davidsmithia have the unique apomorphy in the wing venation of the Tenthredinoidea minus Xyelotomidae. The Xyelotomidae is probably a paraphyletic family. Only a phylogenetic analysis will help to solve these problems. There is no evidence supporting the previous assignments of the fossil genera Vitimilarva and Kuengilarva to the family Xyelotomidae.

    Przedstawiono wstępne wyniki badań prowadzonych w latach 2008-2009 na obszarach oddziaływania przemysłu wapiennego na Kujawach w Północnej Polsce. W trakcie prowadzonych pracodłowiono 93 gatunki żąłówek - Crabronidae (40 gatunków), Chrysididae (18 gatunków), Vespidae (15 gatunków), Pompilidae (10 gatunków), Sphecidae (6 gatunków), Mutillidae (2 gatunki), Scoliidae (1 gatunek) oraz Tiphiidae (1 gatunek).Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że przemysł nie zawsze musi kojarzyć się z negatywnym oddziaływaniem na faunę czy florę.
    Preliminary field research was conducted in 2008-2009 in areas directly affected by lime industry in the region of Kujawy (Kuyavia) in northern Poland. In the course of the work of 93 species caught Aculeata - Crabronidae (40 species), Chrysididae (18 species), Vespidae (15 species), Pompilidae (10 species), Sphecidae (6 species), Mutillidae (2 species), Scoliidae (one species) and Tiphiidae (one species). Results of this study imply that industry does not always have a negative effect on the local fauna or flora.

    Introduction and objectives. Insect stings are the second trigger of anaphylaxis in children and adolescents, causing a potentially life-threatening reactions. Hence health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important issue for Hymenoptera venom allergy (HVA) patients. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the impact of HVA on young patients’ HRQoL, including their socio-demographic characteristics. Materials and method. The study sample included 102 patients aged 8–17 (Mean 12.5 years, SD=3.0), who were under diagnosis or venom immunotherapy due to systemic reaction after an insect sting in one of the tertiary referential centers in Poland. They were mostly boys (70%), and mainly from rural areas (63%). HRQoL of studied patients was measured with the Children’s Hymenoptera Venom Allergy Quality of Life Scale, a questionnaire covering 6 dimensions: anxiety, caution, limitations, discomfort, support received from parents and a feeling of safety, each measured from 1 to 5. Independent predictors of HRQoL were estimated using the Generalized Linear Model. Results. In the group of children being dermal reactors, girls reported a higher level of anxiety (B=1.17, 95%CI=(0.30;2.03), p=0.008). In the group of children with grade 2 it was the girls who reported lower anxiety (B=-1.33, 95%CI=(-2.38;-0.29), p=0.013). Boys treated longer than 3 years had their level of anxiety significantly lower than those studied at diagnosis (B=-0.65, 95%CI=(-1.23;-0.07), p=0.028). The feeling of safety was higher in children living in villages than in those living in towns (B=0.30, 95%CI=(0.03;0.56), p=0.031). Conclusions. The gender, treatment duration and stage of anaphylactic reaction influenced level of anxiety. The level of feeling of safety was related to the place of living.

    Spider wasps had long been proposed to originate in the Late Cretaceous based on the Burmese amber fossil Bryopompilus interfector. We performed a morphological examination of this fossil and determined that it does not belong to Pompilidae or any other described hymenopteran family. Instead, we place it in the new family Bryopompilidae. The oldest verifiable member of the Pompilidae is from Baltic amber, which suggests that the crown group of the family probably originated in the Eocene, not in the Late Cretaceous as previously proposed. The origin of spider wasps appears to be correlated with an increase in spider familial diversity in the Cenozoic. We also add two genera to the extinct pompilid fauna: Tainopompilus Rodriguez and Pitts gen. nov. and Paleogenia Waichert and Pitts gen. nov., and describe three new species of fossil spider wasps: Anoplius planeta Rodriguez and Pitts sp. nov., from Dominican amber (Burdigalian to Langhian); Paleogenia wahisi Waichert and Pitts sp. nov., from Baltic amber (Lutetian to Priabonian); and Tainopompilus argentum Rodriguez and Pitts sp. nov., from Dominican amber (Chattian to Langhian).

    The study of the bionomy of privet sawfly (Macrophya punctumalbum (L.), a pest of park plants in the city of Poznań, was conducted during three vegetation seasons in the years 1981–1983, at the insectarium of the Department of Entomology at Agricultural University in Poznań. The aim of the study was to define the longevity and fecundity of imagines, larvae development of the species and the level of parasitizing the eggs of the privet sawfly by parasitoids of the Chalcidoidea superfamily. The sawfly occurred in the last ten days of May. The females lived from 4 to 36 days, most often quite short (73.3%), from 7 to 14 days. After reaching the stage of sexual maturity, which lasted mostly 8–9 days, they started laying eggs. The fecundity of females fluctuated between 1 and 122 eggs. The mean female fecundity was 52 eggs. It was found that the larvae of sawfly went through 5 instar stages. The parasitoids of the Chalcidoidea superfamily decreased the abundance of the sawfly at the egg stage from 0.47% to 8.65%. Those were Anaphes cultripennis Debauche (Mymaridae) and Trichogramma sp. (Trichogrammatidae).
    Badania nad bionomią brosznicy jesionówki (Macrophya punctumalbum (L.), szkodnika roślin parkowych miasta Poznania, prowadzono przez trzy sezony wegetacyjne, w latach 1981–1983, w insektarium Katedry Entomologii Akademii Rolniczej w Poznaniu. Celem badań było określenie długości życia imaginalnego, płodności i rozwoju larwalnego tego gatunku oraz stopnia spasożytowania jaj brosznicy przez parazytoidy z nadrodziny Chalcidoidea. Błonkówki pojawiały się w III dekadzie maja. Samice żyły od 4 do 36 dni, przy czym najczęciej krótko (73,3%), od 7 do 14 dni. Po uzyskaniu dojrzałości płciowej, trwającej przeważnie 8–9 dni, przystępowały do składania jaj. Płodność samic wahała się w granicach od 1 do 122 jaj. Średnia płodność samic wyniosła 52 jaja. Ustalono, że larwy brosznicy przechodziły przez 5 stadiów rozwojowych. Parazytoidy z nadrodziny Chalcidoidea obniżyły liczebność brosznicy w stadium jaja w granicach od 0,47% do 8,65%. Były nimi Anaphes cultripennis Debauche (Mymaridae) i Trichogramma sp. (Trichogrammatidae).

    Two braconid wasp taxa with enlarged eyes and ocelli indicative of probable nocturnal activity are discussed and described from the lowermost Eocene amber of the Paris Basin.The new tribe Palaeocharmontini nov., for new genus Palaeocharmon with type species Palaeocharmon basalis sp. nov. is described and illustrated in the subfamily Charmontinae. The similarity of this taxon with members of subfamilies Helconinae, Homolobinae, and Brachistinae is shown and the peculiar character [presence of hind wing recurrent vein (m−cu)] unknown previously in non−cyclostome braconids is discussed. A third fossil species of the genus Phanerotoma (Ph. menieri sp. nov.) is described and compared with known species from the Baltic amber.

    The aim of the paper is to construct a model which describes the life expectancy of privet sawfly females (Macrophya punctumalbum L.), including additional information on the number of eggs. The data on life expectancy of females and their fertility were obtained in the course of research on the bionomy of the privet sawfly. A variety of discrete distributions to modelling the lengths of life was provided, namely: the Poisson Distribution, the Negative Binomial Distribution and the Poisson-inverse Gaussian Distribution. The analysis the above distributions were applied along with the GAMLSS (Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale and Shape) and the resulting models were compared with the use of the Global Deviance criterion, the Akaike information criterion and the Schwarz Bayesian criterion. For the best model the expected value and the standard deviation were defined. The profile deviance plot of this parameters, analysis of the residuals, kernel density and Q-Q plot are presented, too. All analyses were performed in R with the GAMLSS package.
    Celem prezentowanej pracy jest zaproponowanie modelu statystycznego opisującego długość życia samic brosznicy jesionówki (Macrophya punctumalbum L.). Dane na temat długości życia samic i ich płodności zostały otrzymane w trakcie badania nad bionomią. Do modelowania długości życia z wykorzystaniem informacji o ilości składanych jaj zastosowano uogólniony addytywny model dla lokalizacji, skali i kształtu (GAMLSS) dla trzech rozkładów dyskretnych: rozkład Poissona, rozkład odwrotny Poissona oraz rozkład ujemny binomialny. Otrzymane modele porównano, stosując kryterium ogólnego odchylenia, kryterium Akaike i kryterium bayesowskie Schwarza. Uzyskano w ten sposób informacje, że najlepiej opisującym modelem badany problem jest model z rozkładem odwrotnym Poissona. Ostatnim etapem badań była estymacja wartości oczekiwanej i błędu standardowego dla najlepszego modelu oraz analiza tych wartości za pomocą wykresu dopasowania reszt dla wartości oczekiwanej, wykresu indeksów reszt, wykresu funkcji gęstości oraz wykresu typu Q-Q. Wszystkie analizy zostały wykonane za pomocą platformy obliczeniowej R z wykorzystaniem pakietu GAMLSS.

    Two extinct genera of ants from the late Eocene (ca. 40 Ma), Protomyrmica gen. nov. and Plesiomyrmex gen. nov. (family Formicidae, subfamily Myrmicinae), are described based on single specimens (males), from Baltic and Bitterfeld (also called Saxonian) ambers respectively; both genera belong to the tribe Myrmicini. In gross morphology they are similar to modern Myrmica but have a series of apomorphies combined with characters that are plesiomorphic not only in the tribe Myrmicini, but also in the subfamily Myrmicinae. The most significant plesiomorphies concern the antennal structure and wing venation of both genera. The antennal scape is short and the funiculus is filiform, having no apical club. Moreover, the antennae of Protomyrmica are “sphecoid” with the length of the funicular segments gradually decreasing towards the apex (i.e., the longest is basal, starting from the second, and the shortest is apical); this type of structure is basal for the family Formicidae as a whole. Although we consider the wing venation of Protomyrmica to represent the prototype of wings in the subfamily Myrmicinae, it has an apomorphy absent in the modern Myrmicini genera—the antennae are inserted into the head well behind the posterior margin of the clypeus. Plesiomyrmex also has a peculiar apomorphy not found in any other genus of Myrmicinae: the antennae are inserted into toruli located on short sub−vertical tube−like or cup−like structures that protrude distinctly above the head surface. As a result, we do not consider either of the newly described genera to be the direct ancestors of modern Myrmicini; nevertheless, the presence of very ancient plesiomorphies may indicate their antiquity, and thus the latest estimated time for the origin of the tribe Myrmicini should be at least the early Eocene.

    Two new species of weaver ant are described from the Eocene of Germany. Males and gynes of Oecophylla longiceps Dlussky sp. nov. are found in the middle Eocene (about 47 Ma) of Grube Messel, Germany. Males, gynes and two workers of O. eckfeldiana Dlussky sp. nov. are recorded from the middle Eocene (about 43 Ma) of Eckfeld maar, Germany. The two new species are among the oldest records of the extant genus Oecophylla. First adaptations for moving in the forest canopy are present in the workers of O. eckfeldiana. Even more specialized adaptations for arboreal life are found in the workers of O. brischkei from Baltic amber. The coexistence of two species in Baltic amber and in the Bembridge marls suggests that in these cases different ecological niches were realised by sympatric species. Comparisons of the queens from different fossil and extant species indicate morphological trends, partly connected with increasing fertility. Most likely Oecophylla originated in the early Paleogene in the Palaearctic realm, radiating strongly during the climatic changes of the Eocene–Oligocene transition.

    The Cretaceous genera of the hymenopteran family Braconidae are discussed. Overall, eight braconid subfamilies, including two only known from this period, and 17 genera together with two having unclear subfamily position, have been recorded in Cretaceous period. Two new genera, Magadanobracon gen. nov. (with two species, Magadanobracon rasnitsyni sp. nov. and M. zherikhini sp. nov.) and Cretorhyssalus gen. nov. (with type species Cretorhyssalus brevis sp. nov.) are described. The discussed position of the new genera in Protorhyssalinae remains putative owing to a lack of information about multiporous sensillae of the antenna and the poor preservation of the basal half of the hind wing. The earliest recorded thickened hind tibia in the female sex, as a probable apomorphic character of the subfamily Protorhyssalinae, and the evolutionary state of the antefurcal vs. postfurcal positions of the recurrent vein in the fore wing of Braconidae are discussed.

    The effect of two pyrethroid ester insecticides, as well as their concentration, on the insect survival were studied along with the dynamics of the insect intoxication, as dependent on the application rate of the chemicals. The laboratory tarsal plate test, carried out in May 2006, was based on commercial formulations of τ-fluvalinate and λ-cyhalothrin instead of pure a.i. The study aimed at producing practical recommendations about the reduction of the application rate in the chemical protection of the oil seed rape (OSR) against the pod and the stem weevils and against the pollen beetle. The results suggest that the application rate reduction of τ-fluvalinate does not alter considerably the survival of the tested insect parasitoids, whereas in case of λ-cyhalothrin it is accompanied by an increase in the insects`survival.

    Opis:
    Plant communities which form orchard edges are a vital element of ecological infrastructure enriching these agrocenoses. The research was conducted in an orchard environment made up of apple orchards and their edges in the form of agricultural cultivations, tree clumps and a road lined with trees and shrubberies. The study aim was to determine the impact of the orchard edge plant diversity onto the number and abundance of Ichneumonidae subfamilies in the orchards. The study showed that orchard environments made up of an apple orchard and edge plants of various species create better living conditions for Ichneumonidae parasitoids than the environment of an orchard and neighbouring agricultural cultivations. The diversity of orchard edge plants positively influences the abundance of the Ichneumonidae subfamilies rather than the number of subfamilies in the orchard. In the orchard habitat the following dominant subfamilies were found: Campopleginae, Cryptinae, Orthocentrinae and Pimplinae. These entomophages may control the abundance of pests infesting orchards.
