Opis:
A review of our today’s understanding of the ultimately broadband photonic Internet is presented. A simple calculation is presented showing the estimate of the throughput of the core photonic network branches. Optoelectronic components, circuits, systems and signals, together with analogous electronic entities and common software layers, are building blocks of the contemporary Internet. Participation of photonics in development of the physical layer in the future Internet will probably increase. The photonics leads now to a better usage of the available bandwidth (increase of the spectral efficiency measured in Bit/s/Hz), increase in the transmission rate (from Gbps, via Tbps up to probably Pbps), increase in the transmission distance without signal regeneration (in distortion compensated active optical cables), increase in energy/power efficiency measured in W/Gbps, etc. Photonics may lead, in the future, to fully transparent optical networks and, thus, to essential increase in bandwidth and network reliability. It is expected that photonics (with biochemistry, electronics and mechatronics) may build psychological and physiological interface for humans to the future global network. The following optical signal multiplexing methods were considered, which are possible without O/E/O conversion: TDM-OTDM, FDM-CO-OFDM, OCDM-OCDMA, WDM-DWDM. The Polish perspective closes the review.

Research background: The global banking network has been undergoing structural changes since the recent financial crisis. Previous studies on connectedness of global banking network during post-crisis period revealed the trends of regionalization and segmentation. Our previous research has also shown that during post-crisis period the level of regionalization within the EU banking network has increased; the network became more clustered and more decentralized. This paper continues our research of structural changes of EU banking network during post-crisis period by adding a global context and questioning the connectedness of EU banking network within global banking system. Purpose of the article: The aim of the paper is to evaluate the EU banking network's connectedness in the global context during the post-crisis period. Methods: network analysis method and data on yearly flows of BIS bilateral interbank cross-border claim were used to evaluate the connectedness of global and EU banking systems. Findings & Value added: Evaluation of the global banking network's connected-ness revealed that global banking network density decreased by 4.50 %, suggesting that connectedness is decreasing, but it is happening slowly. Structural changes in the global banking network did happen during post-crisis period with regards to out-degree, betweenness and closeness centrality indicators. In the global context, the EU banking network became more connected during post-crisis period. The EU banking network was regionalized in 2011, but this regionalization disappeared in 2015, as the level of intraregional density decreased in 2015 and became lower than the interregional density. This research contributes to previous research in a way that it applies intraregional and interregional network density measures for evaluation of the EU banking network's connectedness, and analyses it as a subset of the global banking network.

One of the most successful missionary organization, the Jesuits, also operated in northern Mexico in the area today identified as the Sonoran Desert, comprising the Mexican state of Sonora and the US state of Arizona. By the early eighteenth century increasingly German-speaking missionaries arrived and worked hard in the wide network  of missions originally established by the pioneer Padre Eusebio Kino (d. 1711) to spread God's words. They also worked intensively on studying that territory and produced numerous written records about their experiences, their research, and the conditions of that world. They were expelled in 1767 and banned globally in 1783, but until then they achieved greatest success with the native population. Their missionary accounts prove to be highly exiting historical, anthropological, religious, and scientific documents most important for missionary history.

The objective of this paper is to show how the global value chain (GVC) concept has spread since the early 2000s. The article assumes that GVC is no longer just a concept or an analytical framework; rather that a new type of business unit has emerged. The article is based on the literature comparison which served to search the main decision-making criteria. The article found that the main decision-making criteria are based on the economies of a network, behind which the spirit of informationalism can be found. The connection between Powell’s stylized models of markets, hierarchy, networks and Gereffi’s theoretical framework of governance structure at GVCs was discovered. The Powell-Gereffi combined model represents clearly described modalities of governance. The paper asks whether the entire economic system is covered by the Powell-Gereffi division. Kornai and Braudel both recognized the routine functioning of the basic-economy, without which the whole economy would lose its stability. It is necessary to formulate how this vegetative or infra-economy relates to the GVCs and to our globalized world economy. The article interprets the Smile Curve, and determines a possible way of measuring the distortion of smile.

This paper proposes a new fault location method in radial medium voltage distribution networks. The proposed method only uses the measurement data at the feeder beginning to approximate the characteristic equation showing the dependence between the positive-sequence voltage and phase angle at the monitoring point with the distance to the fault location for each fault type on each line segment. To determine these characteristic equation coefficients, the entire distribution network will be modeled and simulated by four types of faults at different locations along the lines to build the initial database. Based on this database, the mathematical functions in MATLAB software are applied to approximate these coefficients corresponding to each type of fault for each line segment in the network. Then, from the current and voltage measurement data at the feeder beginning, the algorithms of global search, comparison, and fault ranking are used to find out where the fault occurs on the distribution network. Two types of distribution network with and without branches are studied and simulated in this paper to verify and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

At present, most of the existing target detection algorithms use the method of region proposal to search for the target in the image. The most effective regional proposal method usually requires thousands of target prediction areas to achieve high recall rate. This lowers the detection efficiency. Even though recent region proposal network approach have yielded good results by using hundreds of proposals, it still faces the challenge when applied to small objects and precise locations. This is mainly because these approaches use coarse feature. Therefore, we propose a new method for extracting more efficient global features and multi-scale features to provide target detection performance. Given that feature maps under continuous convolution lose the resolution required to detect small objects when obtaining deeper semantic information; hence, we use rolling convolution (RC) to maintain the high resolution of low-level feature maps to explore objects in greater detail, even if there is no structure dedicated to combining the features of multiple convolutional layers. Furthermore, we use a recurrent neural network of multiple gated recurrent units (GRUs) at the top of the convolutional layer to highlight useful global context locations for assisting in the detection of objects. Through experiments in the benchmark data set, our proposed method achieved 78.2% mAP in PASCAL VOC 2007 and 72.3% mAP in PASCAL VOC 2012 dataset. It has been verified through many experiments that this method has reached a more advanced level of detection.

The aim of the article is to show the tetrad of educational environments, according to Janusz Morbitzer (Morbitzer, 2014, s. 120), which influence young people who exist dichotomously in the real and virtual world. Living „between” the real and digitized world, the global teenager tries to mark his activity and decision-making. On the one hand, he wants to leave his personalized trace in the offline space and on the other hand, he wants to join a uniform digital online community. The growing so-called „axiological shift” towards the domination of material values, social and civilizational entropy contribute to the fact that educational processes are becoming more and more difficult, sometimes even impossible to implement. Lack of understanding of a specific axiological concept prevents its introception, and therefore practical respect and living in accordance with a given axiological category.
Z jednej strony pragnie zostawić swój spersonalizowany ślad w przestrzeni offline a drugiej strony dołączyć do zuniformizowanej cyfrowej społeczności online.

Opis:
The research on intrusion-detection systems (IDSs) has been increasing in recent years. Particularly, this research widely utilizes machine-learning concepts, and it has proven that these concepts are effective with IDSs – particularly, deep neural network-based models have enhanced the rates of the detection of IDSs. In the same instance, these models are turning out to be very complex, and users are unable to track down explanations for the decisions that are made; this indicates the necessity of identifying the explanations behind those decisions to ensure the interpretability of the framed model. In this aspect, this article deals with a proposed model that can explain the obtained predictions. The proposed framework is a combination of a conventional IDS with the aid of a deep neural network and the interpretability of the model predictions. The proposed model utilizes Shapley additive explanations (SHAPs) that mixes the local explainability as well as the global explainability for the enhancement of interpretations in the case of IDS. The proposed model was implemented by using popular data sets (NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15), and the performance of the framework was evaluated by using their accuracy. The framework achieved accuracy levels of 99.99 and 99.96%, respectively. The proposed framework can identify the top-4 features using local explainability and the top-20 features using global explainability.
