The present text comprehensively discusses a book by Katarzyna Szopa entitled Poetyka rozkwitania. The author of the article posits the monograph in question within the continuum of contemporary feminist thought and sees it as an instance of redefining essentialism. What, as the author suggests, seems the most worthwhile about Szopa’s book is inscribing Luce Irigaray’s thought in feminist materialism, aside from the literary scholarship of the author adding value to her critical adroitness.

The aim of this article is to investigate the origins of the Women’s Front, a women’s movement co-founded by Norwegian Maoists in the 1970s. The analysis seeks to capture the dynamics of women’s activism in relation to the broader political landscape and, concurrently, to understand the Women’s Front in a broader temporal perspective. The sources used were newspapers and publications issued by different branches of the Norwegian Maoist movement. Women’s politics are analysed both as a grassroots phenomenon and a part of agitation which emerged under the 1972 anti-EEC campaign. This makes it possible to show how women’s politics found a place on the agenda of Norwegian Maoism and what kind of obstacles it had to face on its way to gaining autonomy. The patterns of feminist mobilisation demonstrated by this analysis can make a contribution to the broader debate on the role and place of feminism in traditional political structures.

Opis:
Rosa Luxemburg observed that the activities of suffragists focused on the interests of bourgeois women, while the socio-political discourse did not consider proletarian women. According to Luxemburg, proletarian women deserved political rights because, forced into hard work and sacrifices, they were the most exploited by the socio-economic system. On March 5, 1914, the Berlin journal "Sozialdemokratische Korrespondenz" published an article by Luxemburg, written on the occasion of International Women's Day. The article, titled "The Proletarian Woman," vividly describes the oppression faced by working women and opposes the cruelty and oppression endured by women of all races and nationalities: *"The world of female misery awaits deliverance. Here, the peasant woman groans under the burden of life and almost breaks beneath it. There, in German Africa, on the Kalahari Desert, lie the whitening bones of Herero women, driven to a horrible death by hunger and thirst by German soldiers. Across the ocean, among the high rocks of Putumayo, the world does not hear the dying screams of Indian women, tortured on the rubber plantations of international capitalists."* In my opinion, Rosa Luxemburg's views were ahead of their time and align with the third wave of feminism. Luxemburg's thoughts and activities were influenced by her belonging to minorities that she represented and sought to give a voice to on the socio-political stage: she was born into a Jewish family in Poland, did not enter a traditionally conceived marriage, and was a politically engaged leader of the international workers' movement. She envisioned a world in which "woman, alongside man, shakes the foundations of the existing social order," and proletarian women are not constrained by the walls of bourgeois homes, social conventions, or stereotypes.

Opis:
At present the question of equality of women and men is non disputable. John Paul II spoke about it clearly and many times, but for most women his way of presentation of this issue was insufficient. Why? It seems that the use of the expression: „equal rights” is problematic in this context because it results in trading men against women and in proving that because we are equal, we are self-contained. This framework does not open us toward dialogue but it encloses us inside male and female worlds. Certainly it was not the intention of God, when He created us in His image and likeness as man and woman. Indeed we are His image if we are open to each other not only in mind and will but especially in the need of complementarity. Individually we can understand and recognize less than we can together so a meeting with the other sex is a chance for us to realize our potential as man and woman. For this reason, I propose to exchange the notion “equal right” for “co-rights”. It does not bring a category of identity but gives the criterion of reciprocity. In the Church the “co-rights” concept is more difficult to realize in practice than the demands of feminist theology. It requires from men not only the modification of their positions but the need of awareness that they do it for themselves and not only for women. Furthermore it demands from women courage and increasing levels of expertise. However, the starting point for both genders is humility.

American feminism
feminizm amerykański
Opis:
The history of American women fighting for equal rights dates back to the 18th century, when in Boston, in 1770, they voiced the demand that the status of women be changed. Abigail Adams, Sarah Grimke, Angelina Grimke and Frances Wright are considered to have pioneered American feminism. An organized suffrage movement is assumed to have originated at the convention Elizabeth Stanton organized in Seneca Falls in 1848. This convention passed a Declaration of Sentiments, which criticized the American Declaration of Independence as it excluded women. The most prominent success achieved in this period was the US Congress passing the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution granting women the right to vote. The 1960s saw the second wave of feminism, resulting from disappointment with the hitherto promotion of equality. The second-wave feminists claimed that the legal reforms did not provide women with the changes they expected. As feminists voiced the need to feminize the world, they struggled for social customs to change and gender stereotypes to be abandoned. They criticized the patriarchal model of American society, blaming this model for reducing the social role of women to that of a mother, wife and housewife. They pointed to patriarchal ideology, rather than nature, as the source of the inequality of sexes. The leading representatives of the second wave of feminism were Betty Friedan (who founded the National Organization for Women), Kate Millet (who wrote Sexual Politics), and Shulamith Firestone (the author of The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution). The 1990s came to be called the third wave of feminism, characterized by multiple cultures, ethnic identities, races and religions, thereby becoming a heterogenic movement. The third-wave feminists, Rebecca Walker and Bell Hooks, represented groups of women who had formerly been denied the right to join the movement, for example due to racial discrimination. They believed that there was not one ‘common interest of all women’ but called for leaving no group out in the fight for the equality of women’s rights. They asked that the process of women’s emancipation that began with the first wave embrace and approve of the diversity of the multiethnic American society.

While in the case of respondents over 50, religiosity is characterized by a location between the stability of religiosity and increasing ritualization or religious indifference, in the case of respondents under 40 it is between distance and aversion or even aversion. The study characterizes this social change in relation to the religious identification of the respondents, their acceptance of some dogmatic issues, their attitude towards the Church and Catholic morality.

Reclaiming Adolescent Sexuality: Images of Girlhood in Petra Collins’s BabeThis paper examines photographs, drawings, collages and other art forms collected in the book Babe, edited by photographer Petra Collins and published by Prestel in 2015. I read the collected artwork as an attempt to present the image of the girl (including her sexuality) from a young woman’s perspective. Babe, which includes works such as photographs of teenagers with visible period blood on the underwear or a to-do list with the goal of never faking another orgasm, asks who a contemporary girl is and how young artists can challenge traditional images of femininity. In my analysis I focus on the excessive use of the color pink in Babe, characterizing the way artists blend innocence with eroticism. I argue that by playing with artifacts of “girlishness,” artists can both expose the absurdity of the image of the girl in popular culture and reclaim symbols of girlhood. I suggest that Collins – despite her ambitions to create an inclusive platform for female artists – does not present a diverse image of girls, who in Babe is still predominantly white and able-bodied. I introduce the potential reading of Babe as a feminist visual manifesto, in reference to the Riot Grrrl movement and the cultural phenomenon of “girl power.” I suggest that the book offers a possibility of exploring the figure of the girl from the perspective of young female artists.

Opis:
Norbert Elias conceptualized social inequality as a result of shift in relative social forces of individuals in figurations, in which framework he also viewed the inequality between men and women. In this paper I examine the main thesis of what could be named Elias’s gender sociology: firstly, men and women use different strategies in their striving for an increase in relative power depending on their social position, and secondly, one of the most effective strategies which may be successfully used by the weaker party in order to change the distribution of power between the sexes is redefining the arsenal of cultural weapons used in this struggle. The antagonism between men and women trying to draw as much power as possible to themselves in the zero-sum social game can become very fierce, especially if the use of physical violence is legitimized on a respective level of civilization. On the other hand, according to Elias’s basic theoretical assumptions all individuals in a figuration are interrelated and interdependent, which restrains direct violence as well as suppresses radical liberation tendencies. This makes it easier for women to engage in strategies of coping with oppression on institutional, symbolic and proxemic level, which are discussed in the final part of the paper.

This article examines the concept of precarity from a feminist perspective, focused on love and affective labour, critically addressing the gender inequalities of neoliberal capitalism. The romantic, heterosexual model of love, typical for modern Western societies, has been dismantled and criticized in various ways, leading to contradictory solutions, which include its annihilation, sublation and modification, as well as (rather conservative) efforts to preserve it. However, love – in its different versions, both as theory and in practice – still provides models and solutions, not only for the neoliberal labour market and new forms of exploitation and expropriation of care and affective labour, but also for revolutionary ideas and transformations, among both feminists and Marxists. It thus requires a theory focusing on the sublation, rather than annihilation, of love’s past models. In my article I build such a perspective, signalling its potential for resistance and models for revolution in the times of neoliberal capitalism.

Dzięki zastosowanej metodologii autorka pokazuje, iż pomimo powierzchownego odczucia wyzwolenia, które mogą one wywoływać, te przedstawienia wskazują na istnienie głęboko zakorzenionych restrykcji dotyczących satysfakcji cielesnej u kobiet. Związek łączący kobiety i jedzenie ma dużą wartość emocjonalną, która zmusza do negocjowania delikatnej równowagi pomiędzy przerażającą żarłocznością a bezcielesną transcendencją. Wreszcie, przeprowadzona analiza ukazuje, że reklamy te mocno podkreślająz jednej strony kwestie samokontroli i samoograniczania się, a z drugiej kładą nacisk na występujące zakłócenia percepcji siebie i otoczenia, co stanowi cechy charakterystyczne dyskursu zaburzeń odżywiania.

This paper returns to the very beginning of thinking about this figure and examines the first protocyborg images created by Futurist and Dada female artists. I also look at Dracula’s Mina Harker as one of the first Western protocyborg figures. I ask to what extent such images anticipated the new forms of subjectivity and how they made the relation between human-nature and human-technology problematic as well as thinking in categories of gender.

The paper discusses refocalization as a strategy of rewriting in the literary apocrypha (D. Szajnert). Refocalization, that is based on G. Genette and H. Jenkins’ conclusions, refers to the shift from the perspective and narrative that dominates canonical works into perspective and narrative predominant in the literary apocrypha of the canonical works. As the subject of research I chose the apocrypha of the Homeric epics (M. Atwood’s The Penelopiad and Ch. Wolf’s Cassandra) in which patriarchal, omniscient narrative is replaced by perspective and narrative of women marginalized in the epic.

The paper discusses the issue of the complex relationship between political science as a branch of academia and modern trends in feminism, understood as a collection of mutually related ideologies. The author emphasizes that both science and ideology are forms of politi- cal practice exercised in the same social and political reality. However, they are fundamen- tally different with respect to the hierarchy of their functions. The ‘clash’ of these two products of human activity produces political science on women and the politological analysis of feminism (subjected first and foremost to the scientific function) on the one hand, and various proposals of feminist modifications of political science that produce feministically re- formed political science and gynocentric political science (where the scientific function is subjected to social objectives) on the other.

The purpose of this article is to assess the phenomenon of discrimination against women and ways to combat it in the EU. The starting point of consideration is an attempt to define contemporary feminism and to identify the common mani‑ festations of discrimination against women. Set against this background are the institutionalised actions taken in favour of women on a global scale as well as EUs gender policy. It was found that the gap that occurs between gender equality de jure and de facto contributed to the implementation in the EU of the principle of gender mainstreaming (active and visible to the mainstreaming of gender in all strategies, policies and programmes).

For centuries, women have been victims of social prejudices and discrimination. Literature reveals various ways women have worked to breakthrough from the point(s) where men have relegated them. Their movements are seen as feminist movement. Merging feminism with Christianity, Christian feminism would mean an aspect of feminist theology which seeks to advance and understand the equality of men and women morally, socially, spiritually, and in leadership from a Christian perspective. A few of the 21st century women in Nigeria are seen to be a bit open in terms of sexuality; we see nursing mothers going out to work; women engaged in new industries and professions, and the acceptance that women will work outside the home, have children outside marriage, as well as the right to control their own sexuality. Despite these accomplishments by women, they are still prone to more problems, basically in the Church. Most persons in the Christian religion do not feel that feminism should come in or be exercised by Christian women. From their view of the feminist’s approach to life, these Christians see feminism to preach a woman’s right to have abortion, practice lesbianism as well as marry, be free from traditional roles, and even reject God as the ultimate authority. This is absolutely untrue. Based on the above premise, this paper tried to justify the reason why Christianity as well as the Church desperately needs feminism. The descriptive and the comparative phenomenological methodology were utilised in this paper, with the advantage data so collected to speak for themselves.

The world is constantly undergoing socio-economic and cultural changes, but the existence of patriarchy and the related gender inequality remain unchanged. In response to this state of aff airs, a feminist movement emerged and infl uenced society. Companies recognize the changes taking place in society and decide to include the feminist movement in their cause-related marketing campaigns. This is how a relatively new form of marketing communication, called femvertising, was born. This paper aims to analyze this form of marketing communication and the eff ect of both hostile and benevolent sexism on the perception of advertising. The research method employed in this study was a quantitative survey on a sample of 321 Polish women. The results of the survey showed that women rate advertisements portraying females in an unconventional way higher than traditional advertisements. Moreover, the perception of advertisements is infl uenced by the level of both benevolent and hostile sexism. The higher the level of sexism, the more negative the evaluation of pro-women advertising becomes. This is a suggestion for advertisers that diversifying an advertising message can be an eff ective marketing strategy.

It is shown how Bednarz deconstructs the stereotypical image of Japan as modern and liberal state by pointing to social inequalities and legal regulations discriminatory against women. At the same time, the factual layer of the book is praised along with the author’s empathy while conducting interviews with her female interviewees, yet what is criticised is the hardly sufficient emphasis put on the eponymous leitmotif, that is, the flowers in a box.

The author of the text seek to break off with the dominant feminist existential perspective, in which Syrwid has been often inscribed by the critics. Instead, he proposes to view her writing as a continuation of the modern thinking (references are made to e.g. Kafka) about the subject in economic categories, that is as an impossible project of the complete breaking from and becoming independent of the outside reality.

Feminism is a movement that tends to change the unfavourable cultural, social, and political relations on behalf of women. The feministic movement has developed in our cultural circle since the 18th century and has taken on various forms. One should mention here the following: feminism as a right strife conducted by women to recognise their dignity, make them equal with respect to citizen rights, ensure equal (with men) access to education that would enable them to obtain a job and enlarge their opportunities in economical, social, political, and religious life – always taking into account their different sex and preserving their vocation as wives and mothers. This is true feminism, which is now defined as a new or Christian feminism, feminism – as an ideology stemming from radical liberalism, socialism, freudism, and post-modernism − strikes woman's identity and in the most radical manifestations it regards sex as a cultural category, and advocates absolute freedom. Thus understood feminism leads to deformation in social life by undermining familial ties and the right to live for the unborn children (abortion). This is false feminism, such that undermines women’s identity and dignity.

Thesis. The current paper deals with the idea of sisterhood which has been represented in a Bollywood movie named Parched. The movie manifests sisterhood as a way to find solace and to get rid of confinement from the oppressive and suffocating society that tries to confine women within the four walls of the house. Concept. Sisterhood is an association, group, society, or community of women who are linked by common interests. This alliance became popular during the second wave of feminism. A single woman cannot combat the oppressors. Only necessary solidarity and collective efforts would result in the desired improvements. Results and Conclusion. In our society, the term ‘brotherhood’ is used to designate camaraderie among men, but no term is used to denote companionship among women. In fact, it is assumed that women hate each other and this legacy of ‘women-hating’ is proved to be unfounded. Therefore, necessary solidarity is required to correct the patriarchal assumptions about women, and the idea of sisterhood is one effort in this direction.

The author is reluctant to accept the treatment of her writings as feminist, particularly Western European feminist, they are surely closer to postcolonial feminism and eco-feminism. Nevertheless, the status of women, their rights and tolerance for otherness are the key elements of Devi’s artistic expression. Her characters rebel against the patriarchal society, they endeavour to discover their own place and identity, which frequently means regaining control over their bodies in the first stage of the transformation. Devi’s female characters live close to nature, where they find comfort, some of them go through a regress to the world of animals and plants.

Opis:
This article’s aim is an attempt at discussing the notion of reproductive work/labour pondered over by female representatives of Italian autonomism and alsoeminent in Luce Irigaray’s philosophy. By pointing to the said relationship between Irigaray’s thought and Italian feminist movements, the author indicates the missing link in feminist historiography, referring feminist thought back to the origins of Marxist philosophy. Following the trail of thought of both the feminist female theoreticians and Luce Irigaray, the author proves that through regaining the significance of reproductive work/labour playing crucial role in patriarchal-capitalist economy, it is actually possible to redefine the gender distribution of labour/work based on exploitation of women in economic, social, political, and cultural dimension. Putting sexuate difference to the eponymous work would, therefore, involve intertwining those two programmes: Irigaray’s philosophy and Italian autonomism, accompanied by a political programme per se, which would transform social relations between men and women, thereby creating new worlds and new relations.

The following analysis of Katarzyna Czechot’s book Ofelizm. Romantyczne zawłaszczenia, feministyczne interwencje [Ophelism. Romantic appropriations, feminist interventions], published in 2016, is a chronological record of ophelic images proposed by this gender studies researcher. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate Czeczot’s dialogue with the traditional representations of Shakespeare’s tragic female figure. In the review the author pays attention to the subversive potential of the subsequent chapters of the work. The portrayals of a female, and sometimes feminized, body, which are linked together by an “ophelic code”, are often interpreted as a certain kind of medium of social revolutions, of changes in human expectations and desires.

The article discusses the psychoanalytical interpretation of Leśmian’s fairy tale The adventures of Sindbad Sailor by Bogusław Grodzki. Following Freud’s and Bettelheim’s concepts, it claims that Sindbad’s psychosexual development and his relations with the princesses reflect Leśmian’s phantasms – the poet’s erotic/sexual desires. In Grodzki’s work fiction seems to be an autobiographical tale and verbal psychotherapy. Misiak, on the other hand, presents the sex/gender categories and introduces the distinction between the autobiography and autofiction as well as certain poststructural and feminist categories.

The paper seeks to explore recent shifts within the popular culture with regard to oppression involving gender, class, race, and ethnicity that can be traced back to the #MeToo movement which was revived as a social media hashtag in October 2017 and has since spread all over the world. The paper starts with a brief overview of Western popular culture that “has recently been seen as a champion for feminism . . . with many high-profile female musicians and actresses visibly promoting the movement in their work” (Woodacre 2018, 21). Next, the paper discusses the origins of the Me Too Movement and the way it approaches the meaning of gendered oppressions as well as individualized and collective experiences of survivors of sexual abuse. This is later explored in the examination of the impact of the hashtag-led movement on three works of popular culture: Amazon’s TV series Lorena (2019), Nancy Schwartzman’s documentary Roll Red Roll (2019), and We Believe: the Best Men Can Be (2019) advertisement by Gillette. The entire case study is informed primarily by feminist theory understood as inseparable from feminist activism, following bell hooks’ Feminist theory from margin to center (1984).

This is the central theme of Opera, a horror directed by the Italian master of the genre, Dario Argento. The film, which tells the story of a young singer stalked by a madman, may be interpreted as a metaphor for the conservative sexual politics of the opera house. Argento’s work is an excellent introduction to the discussion that swept across American musicology in the early 1990s, about the gender analysis of European musical culture; a discussion that can be summarised in the question: is the opera house a place where women are oppressed or, on the contrary, is it a space for their emancipation?

The paper is an attempt to analyse somatic motifs in Barbara Klicka’s writings, including three volumes of her poetry: Same same (2012), Nice (2015), Allel (2021), and the novel Zdrój (2019). The proposed interpretation is based on the phenomenological perspective since this vantage point effectively reconstructs the mechanism of the description of individual experiences. Furthermore, it proves useful in understanding the peculiarity of Klicka’s feminine characters, who are defined by their corporeality. Within the analysis of selected poems and the novel Zdrój, Merlau-Ponty’s thoughts are used to describe the corporeality of a woman patient and her experience connected with the problems of motherhood, eroticism, and existence. Moreover, concepts and tools borrowed from posthuman feminist phenomenology are applied to illustrate the communion of the human being with the environment.

Indian women’s writing from the mid-twentieth century that doesn’t fit the dominant tropes of resistance in postcolonial and feminist literary critiques have largely been untranslated and undiscussed. Especially neglected are narratives of native queerness, stories of transgressive desire and sexual alterity. In this essay, I explore Yamini’s complex desire in Chudamani Raghavan’s eponymous novella and its potential to complicate feminist and postcolonial discourses on women’s sexuality. Drawing on aspects of queer theory and poststructuralist notions of subjectivity, I examine how Yamini’s asexuality challenges and destabilizes cisheterosexist gender hierarchies and colonization. By examining language and silence in Yamini through the devices of Indian literary criticism and intertextuality, I locate Yamini’s queerness within the subcontinent’s long history of multivocal desire. I build on the precolonial notion that desire is not necessarily located in the body, and suggest that the transgressive desires of Yamini’s mind, the desire of ideas, is also a manifestation of queerness – capable of subverting hegemonic discourses of sexual and psychic normativity.

In subsequent sections of the conclusions to the first part, the most important research schools have been compared. According to the accepted assumption, the school of realism is the most appropriate for the study of Daesh. However, other schools can contribute to a better understanding of the organisation, showing the multidimensional and multifaceted threats for the international order coming from Daesh.

Jeanette Winterson’s 2007 novel The Stone Gods is an admonitory tale about human environmental irresponsibility: in a highly gendered narrative the novelist demonstrates how the patriarchal domination inherent in human civilization leads to the destruction of the planet. Drawing upon the theoretical framework provided by posthumanist studies, especially the feminist perspective of Donna Haraway, N. Katherine Hayles and Rosi Braidotti, the article interprets Winterson’s novel as a critique of the masculinist domination of human culture. It shows The Stone Gods as one of Haraway’s “feminist cyborg stories”, demonstrating that a female robot might prove to be a model for new human subjectivity which could lead our civilization away from the path towards self-destruction.

Numerous diagnoses of contemporary transformations of love and eroticism emphasise the fact that the intimate life has become democratised and liberated. Anthony Giddens argues that personal relationships increasingly become compatible with the model of pure relationship, which means that they are more egalitarian and that both partners are free to choose and to negotiate the shape of their relations. Jeffrey Weeks claims that in “the world that we have won”, women, homosexuals and queers are increasingly considered as equal to heterosexual men. Most scholars agree that feminism(together with gays’ and lesbians’ movements) is one of most important factors that enabled the democratisation of intimacy. Yet, it is possible to distinguish some interesting approaches that examine the unintended consequences of women’s emancipation. Sociologists like Arlie Russell Hochschild and Eva Illouz recognise the importance of feminism in democratising intimacy, thus they also claim that liberation of women has entailed rationalisation and commercialisation of intimacy. One of Hochschild’s main thesis is that feminism commercialises intimacy by legitimising “the commercial spirit of intimate life”. What is more, she argues that instead of humanizing men feminism is capitalising women. On the other hand, Illouz persuades that feminism – together with therapeutic discourse – rationalises intimacy by emphasising the necessity of analysing and quantifying all aspects of intimate life. Hochschild and Illouz claim that feminism unintentionally makes intimacy “cold” – that is that it suggests focusing on personal autonomy and perceiving warm and close bonds as an endangerment for that autonomy. The cooling entails loosening of family and intimate relationships and making individuals more attached to the market. In the end, both sociologists agree that “cool” branches of feminism make women similar to men and intimacy similar to the market

The main focus of the current study is the role of periodicals in the emancipation of the woman in a modernizing Bulgarian society. From a social and political perspective, female virtues, rights and duties become an object of varied debates in Bulgaria at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries. Women’s newspapers and magazines participate actively in these debates whilst familiarizing their female readers with the ideas and struggles of women in Western Europe, presenting diverse philosophical concepts, and discussing established cultural models. In these periodicals there appear materials which endeavour to cultivate models of emancipative behaviour; these publications include translations and authentic literature with a „feminine” axis. Female identity in this period gets formed within respective periodicals and the circles clinging to them, and it comes to represent a complex entity of, on the one hand, radical concepts stressing equality and female rights, and, on the other, conservative perceptions of the place of the woman in the modern household environment.

The goal of the article is to analyze the image of democracy in Polish and German feminism discourse, the way democracy is conceptualized and differentiated. The Author uses the defmite notions applied in ethnolinguistic analyses conducted by the Lublin Eth- nolinguistic School, such as: profiling the notions, projile, thepoint of view, interpretation perspective. The analysis of the collected data leads to the dififerentiation of two basie profiles of democracy: to the real one (oriented towards description) and to the ideał one (expressed with postulates), where the real profile dominates in the discourse of Polish feminism and the ideał profile - in the discourse of German feminism. In the framework of the chief profiles, the Author points out the political profiles in the following discourses: the profile of world-view in Polish discourse, and the social one - in German discourse. The given analysis shows different points of view: the Polish feminists talk about domi- nating and the redundant role of men (in politics particularly), whereas the German feminists talk about the of women in political, social and professional spheres. The presented differences occur as the result of the accepted values. In Polish discourse democracy is used in collocations with the following notions - values: równoace (equality (of rights)), wolnoceoe (freedom, independence), normalnooece (normalization, standarization), whereas in German discourse we meet Gerechtigkeit (justice, equity, faimess), Frieden (pe- ace), Gewaltfreiheit (the absence of violence, coercion, constraint), Wohlstand (welfare, wellbeing, prosperity).

It is undoubtedly true that a number of British women turned their back on religion, from the beginning of the period of the cultural revolution of the 1960s and onwards. To what might we attribute these defections and the taking up of a new nonreligious identity?  Was it the change in sexual mores and the rise of second wave feminism, the increase in women entering higher education opening up new worldviews to them or increasing affluence? This article examines a variety of factors through the eyes of self-identified women atheists/humanists most of whom have lived through that period. It notes that, while these factors may well be significant to different degrees for different women, the turn to atheism, specifically, results largely from women having been damaged by religion and the deep emotional impact thus left behind. The turn to atheism is not a uniform experience as the women are enmeshed in differing types of ‘emotional regime’ which affects how they respond.

In this paper, the author analyzes the stereotypical representations of single woman from two French-language Algerian novels: Les Pierres dans ma poche by Kaouther Adimi and La fille de la Casbah by Leïla Marouane. By using different literary techniques, the chosen writers formulate a severe criticism of contemporary Algerian society which, despite the hard-won liberties of the second sex, maintains the status quo by enclosing women in stereotypical social roles and by stigmatizing those who do not do not conform to societal standards.

Aim Religion in India continues to remain a male-bastion with men occupying positions of leadership in religious institutions and wielding inordinate control. Against this backdrop, this research analyses the recent emergence of women claiming their space in religion, with specific focus on decision making powers, accessibility to religious careers, and rights and entitlements to religious finances and accruements. Methods The review made use of extensive and in-depth analysis off secondary sources of research and informative materials available, specifically on the subject matters of religion, women and modern feminist campaigns. Major sources utilized were newspapers articles, journal articles, scholarly research on related topics and court hearings and judgments of relevant cases. Results The analysis reveals that there is clear progress by feminist movements in challenging inequality in religion, by demanding equal access to places of worship and questioning religious practices that exclude them. Women are calling out male leadership where they have abused their power under the guise of faith. Feminist movements are also demanding women’s participation in the financial endowments that accrues to religion. Women are also making determined entry into careers related to religion. The growing number of institutions that provide religious training to women are not only enabling women to take up priestly and other religious roles, but also equipping them to question patriarchal interpretation of scriptures. Conclusion While the rising feminist movement towards obtaining equality within religion becomes quite apparent, one of the contributing factors could be the consistency of the judiciary in upholding the constitutional rights granted to women. Specifically, the Supreme Court, with its judgements and progressive interpretations of religious laws, has aided the women in their struggle. Since the questioning of patriarchal control of religious structures is happening almost parallelly across all major religions in India, it can also be theorised that there is a rising feministic consciousness that underpins the quest for religious equality and equal treatment.

This essay considers how #MeToo’s recent iteration in the Greek context has stirred trouble in the theatre, instigating a politics of resistance against obdurate histories of injustice against women’s bodies in the industry whilst also creating spaces for solidarity among performers and theatre makers. My main intention is to examine how the above issues form part of the same ecology of precarity that dovetailed when the Greek #MeToo began to take force. In doing so, I will first focus on two recent major incidents occurring in the country’s flagship state theatre, the National Theatre of Greece, which involved two of its former male artistic directors in order to discuss how debates around precarity and exclusion in the theatre industry were unearthed. I will then shift focus to Greek artists’ self-organizing tactics through the examples of the activist network Support Art Workers and the Actors’ Trade Union who have started developing codes of conduct and strategies to challenge the devaluation and feminization of artistic labour. The article will further make reference to specific developments across the international theatre industry that connect to the tenets of the #MeToo which offer apertures for progressive change in the field of Greek theatre and its institutions.

From the 18th century on Arabian Nights  has been influencing European imaginary, especially culture and literature. It created European vision of the Orient as well. In the 20th century popular culture gave high recognisability to many elements of Arabian Nights (such as characters: Sindbad, Aladdin or magical artefacts: a flying carpet, magic lamp). Scheherazade as an allegory for narrative art became the most important figure for scholars studying the book. The paper shows how two contemporary book cycles make intertextual links to Arabian Nights . Orphan’s Tale  by Catherynne M. Valente, Harun and the Sea of stories  and Luka and the fire of Life by Salman Rushdie rewrite the elements of Arabian Nights , such as characters, artefacts and linguistic allusion to the Orient. However, the narration in the works by both writers is completely different: Valente recreated a sophisticated device of narration known from the book, whereas Rushdie gave his novels a simple, linear composition. Scheherazade’s gift to spin story out of a life is needed for different aims. For Rushdie telling fairy tales is useful in writing about life of literature itself, for Valente it is important for creating an alternative to the patriarchal vision of the world.

The research tools from such field as feminist critique, gender and queer studies as well as postcolonial criticism do not obliterate historical context of the analyzed works but they offer the opportunities for fresh readings of literary figures and the previously neglected literary space. Consequently, the discussed anthology succeeds in redefining Polish literary canon.

The article tackles the topie of womanhood as a typical motif in Wanda Melcer' s poetry, a topie which in historical-literary studies has so far been insufficiently discussed. Through the analysis of selected poems from her two published volumes as well as from other scattered poems, the portrait of a modern woman as presented in that poetry has been sketched out. This woman is a person who takes part in civilisational, social and manner-related changes. Her relations to culture, art and literature, her vitality and being active in life, all attest to her abandonment of roles imposed by the patriarchal system. It has been shown that the "new woman" breaks taboos and is educated. Above all she is independent and selfreliant, desires success and thirsts for new experiences, as demonstrated by how she frequently changes her surroundings and appropriates new spaces. She moulds her identity in confrontation with the outside world, she is open to otherness and changeability. At the same time she maintains personal consistency. Her creative identity is related to acting upon the principle of choice, and not obligation. Due to the multitude of biographical references present, the portrait of the female heroine contained in Wanda Melcer's poetry can be seen as a self-portrait of the author herself.

Postcolonialism in Poland – a feminist proposition In this article I try to introduce the feminist postcolonial theory in the analysis of several recent texts and projects which have been discussed in Poland and where the postcolonial, situated knowledge can be observed as one allowing the analysis of Polish peasantry, as an important element of the feminist art criticism or as a way of discussing Poland as semi-peripheric in its relation to “the West”. I discuss the debates over the music project R.U.T.A. and theater piece In the name of Jakub S., I also argue, that the application of postcolonial theory could transform the exhibition Gender Check into a genuinely feminist project. Postcolonialism is discussed here as theory directly indebted in the legacy of Karl Marx, theorist which seems irreplaceable in the contemporary cultural studies. The arguments for the last thesis is supported with references to some already historical materialist and decolonial feminist theories.

Opis:
Arab feminism started in the 20th century and was reminiscent of similar movements in the West, but was never as dynamic nor successful as them. Arab women worked actively to promote equal rights for females at that time, and their leaders became the first feminists. They presented concepts that may be divided into groups according to the three main currents initiated by Egyptian activists. The first one aimed at reforms in favour of women and equality of the two sexes and was introduced by the Cairo aristocrat Huda Sharawi and women from the Egyptian upper class. Conservative activist Zaynab al-Ghazali established the second current along Islamic lines, encouraging women to demand their rights according to the Islam paradigm. The trend initiated by medical doctor and writer Nawal as-Sadawi can be referred to as progressive because it aimed to break the taboos of sexuality and carnality as forbidden subjects in public. Fatema Mernissi was a Moroccan writer and sociologist who combined Islam and feminism, grounding her arguments in Islamic teachings. The article discusses Mernissi’s life and work in terms of her efforts to seek the full equality of women and men in personal and public spheres. She benefited from her own experience, research and works on Islam as well as psychology. Mernissi described her childhood and youth in a traditional Moroccan harem, which underwent some decisive changes in the second half of the 20th century. It is noteworthy that two types of behaviour were observed in the harem: aggressive (characteristic of men) and assertive (connected with women). They are a basis for presenting the customs of the harem in the light of Mernissi’s writings. The author also deals with sexuality as an important subject for women yet rarely discussed in public. She made an interesting comparison between the concepts of sexuality developed by medieval famous Arab scholar Al-Ghazali (12th century) and the contemporary theory of Sigmund Freud. Mernissi emphasized that Muslim ideas were more favourable for the two sexes than Western ones.

The first exhibition took place in 2011 in the gallery Wozownia in Toruńand has continued since then. The cycle functions uninterrupted, deeply em- bedded in the concrete ideas closely related to the feminist art and the female experience entangled in the body, biology and emotions, already reworked in the artistic, cultural and social context. All artists invited to take part in FEM- ININE project have been carefully chosen for several important reasons. First of all, the decision has been made due to the subjective, individual choice and the aesthetic, ethical preferences of the curator. Secondly, it is also important that these talented artists – for various reasons – do not belong to the main- stream of the contemporary art.The presentation of the exhibitions which follows has taken the form of short, personal impressions, created spontaneously after the first contact with the works. Hence, it is more of a notebook with important notations which can be treated as a first step towards deeper scientific analysis, yet to be done.

The paper addresses some of the ways in which anthropology, as a discourse and a discipline, has contributed to the forging as much as of the problematisation of the concept of gender, not only within the feminist, queer and LGBTQI camps, but also among Catholic fundamentalists. It argues that, despite some recent genealogical critiques of the concept of gender and its origins in mid-20th century bio-medical governance, insufficient attention has been paid to the role of the so-called ‘savage slot’ - as Rolph Trouillot defined the domain of knowledge carved out for anthropology, in a wider scheme of thought that has its origins at the same time as ‘the West’ became a reality. A more thorough genealogy of the ways in which anthropological thinking and evidence contributed to the construction, and then the deconstruction, of gender, can provide fruitful tools for a deeper challenge of the apparatus of gender itself.

The author analyzes attitudes to the phenomenon of sexuality on the basis of two theoretical perspectives, the evolutionary and the feminist, between which there has long been conflict. In his opinion, however, they are only seemingly contrary. The main texts of both trends of thought concern entirely different problems and at the substantive level there is basically no contradiction between them. It is important that evolutionary theory often undermines existing cultural schemas, although this is rarely perceived by proponents of feminist theories. Evolutionists, in turn, rather too often identify feminism with radical social constructivism. Another extreme is a view that could be described as evolutionary sexism, consisting in justifying the gender status quo by reference to biological essentialism. After elimination of the extreme approaches, which are rare in any case, it is possible to use the results of evolutionary research in the debate over gender equality and to transform the two monologues into a cohesive dialogue; this, in the author’s opinion, is an important task for empirically oriented social theory

The article discusses the evolving image of female characters in the Mad Max saga directed by George Miller, focusing on Furiosa’s rebellion in the last film—Mad Max: Fury Road. Interestingly, studying Miller’s post-apocalyptic action films, we can observe the evolution of this post-apocalyptic vision from the male-dominated world with civilization collapsing into chaotic violence visualized in the previous series to a more hopeful future created by women in the last part of the saga: Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). We observe female heroes: the vengeful Furiosa, the protector of oppressed girls and sex slaves, the women of the separatist clan, and the wives of the warlord, who bring down the tyranny and create a new “green place.” It is worth emphasizing that the plot casts female solidarity in the central heroic role. In fact, the Mad Max saga emerges as a piece of socially engaged cinema preoccupied with the cultural context of gender discourse. Noticeably, media commentators, scholars and activists have suggested that Fury Road is a feminist film.

Aim. The aim of this work is to present a qualitative analysis of the movie proposals prepared by preservice teachers in the context of an educational experience around the ecofeminist movement. The responses to a final questionnaire about sustainability awareness are also analysed. Methods. The participants were 47 alumni of the Grades of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education at a Spanish university. After a lecture about ecofeminism and reading a series of fragments of the young literature novel Yabarí by Lola Robles (2017), preservice teachers had to prepare the proposal for an ecofeminist movie, with a synopsis, plot, characters description, cast, and the script for a key scene. To assess the experience the students completed a questionnaire about different aspects of the proposal at the end of the semester, along with a validated questionnaire about sustainability awareness. Results and conclusion. The analysis of the ecofeminist movies prepared and the responses to the questionnaires shows how the students were able to assimilate the ecofeminist thesis and incorporate them to their reflection about sustainability. This is also manifested in the results of the “Attitudes toward Sustainable Development scale”, which indicate a high level of sustainability attitudes in these preservice teachers, with no differences between genders. The creativity of these preservice teachers is evident in the variety of approaches to the topic in the different movies proposed. We can conclude that the ecofeminist topic is relevant in the classroom because it contributes to enhancing the ethical debate and driving the teaching-learning process in an interdisciplinary manner, perfectly aligned with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Opis:
This article begins by exploring the personal experiences and theoretical foundations that led to the creation of a permanent new CEISAL research team. Steered by the feminist development theory and adopting a Marxist methodolo-gy it soon became a draw for professionals of many disciplines and from several con-tinents, but continues to consist largely of women. The article goes on to analyze how, for almost a decade, this Working Group has projected its findings through a multi-tude of articles, books, journals, symposia, congresses, courses, documentaries, radio and television broadcasts, and a range of other activities it has developed, and also by collaborating with a number of institutions both nationally and internationally which share common goals.

The article offers a reading of the representation of the masculinity crisis at the end of the 20th century in selected British novels. The works by Irvine Welsh, Graham Swift, Niall Griffiths, and Ian McEwan are situated against the development of pro-feminist men’s writing and masculinity studies, as well as the mythopoetic men’s movement and Robert Bly’s bestselling Iron John: A Book About Men (1990). The article foregrounds the sense of an impasse that permeates the novels and that echoes the general feeling of in-betweenness characteristic for the turn of the century.

The aim of the article is to discuss the phenomenon of a ‘newly born woman’ that appears in the writing of the French theoreticians of gender, Hélène Cixous and Luce Irigaray. This approach goes beyond the frames of ‘essentialism’ designed by Anglo‑American critics of the eighties.

Aim. The purpose of this study was to analyze religious issues in gender and feminist electronic mass media in Ukraine, taking into account the specifics of their policy, audience, and communication strategy Methodology. The empirical methods were gathered by a grouping of sites and electronic media: the official sites, the convergent scanned print media, and the social network Facebook. Overall, the 21 electronic mass media were analyzed. The main method of this research is a discourse analysis of religious topics. The main identified topics are representation of religions, political issues, gender history of religion, female priesthood, dogma of religion, pedagogical and scientific topics, critique of religion/church, anti-gender and religion, LGBT issues, sexuality, body, and religion. Only a small amount of material and topics are dedicated to religion, which is marginalized in the Ukrainian media. Conclusions. Our main conclusion is that the more analytical analysis in the material, the more tolerant the authors are to religion, but not to religious organizations. The sensitive topics of sexual orientation, sexual violence, pedophilia, and abortion rights related to church activities, are raised in the feminist/gender mass media. Originality. The coverage of religious issues depends on the type of media that presents a particular gender discourse: the more radical Ukrainian media in their visions, the less critical and stereotypical the representation of religion. Most Ukrainian gender media reflect general trends in the representation of religion.

Veiled and Direct. Remarks About the Feminine Worlds of Maria Pinińska-Bereś and Ewa Partum The proposals of art by the internationally known: Maria Pinińska-Bereś (1931–1999) and Ewa Partum (b. 1945) have been emerging since the 1960s and 1970s as the successive steps driving through the shell of masculine domination in art. Owing to the power and coherence of the liberation endeavours, both artists have worked out their own forms of creativity. Through the individuality of feminine approaches they mani- fested in their statements some sort of model message, and at the same time a uniqueness in the way of using artistic means of expression. For the sculpturess and “performeress” Pinińska-Bereś entangled in the mul- ti-level dualism of the patriarchal domination and neo-avant-guarde free- dom, the method depended on showing psychoanalytically filtered depths through the veiled object allusions. For the relatively early emancipated and direct in her strong performances conceptual artist, Ewa Partum, the fusion of corporal presence with critical ideas was, and still is, important.

The aim of this critical essay is to analyse social and economic contexts of women’s work at the verge of 19th and 20th centuries. In the essay’s foreground are: 1) the discussion of Polish emancipatory discourses, the relation of liberal feminists to working class women; as well as 2) the characteristics of the reproductive work performed by women in the era of industrial revolution along with the impact the industrialization had on transformations of the ways genders were perceived. The article also touches upon the emancipatory role played by the factory – an attempt was made to answer the question: To what extent the commercialization of women’s work due to industrial revolutions allowed women to escape the shackles of patriarchy, and to what extent it contributed to their further entanglement in the network of dependency.

The author also discusses the actress’ public image in 1989 and the effect her public image had on the reception of what she had spoken on television. The author also explains why she sees Szczepkowska’s appearance as an embarrassing female performance – simultaneously emancipatory and eliciting consternation.

Poznań 2019, Adam Mickiewicz University Press, pp. 179–196. ISSN 1644-6763. DOI 10.14746/pt.2019.32.9. The author analyzes the figure of the cyborg in science fiction literature and film. The text begins by showing this kind of literary work in the theoretical field and presents it as an interactive discourse. The author describes the scientific roots of constructing a human-technical hybrid, emphasizing the ideological and political context of this research. In this approach, the cyborg appears as a participant in and also a hostage of the Cold War. Next, the author finds literary and film creations of cyborgs inspired by this political and military heritage. The article also presents alternative images of cyborgs co-creating a feminist and postcolonial discourse. They were also included in specific policies and strategies aimed at deconstructing concepts such as sex and gender, sexuality, race, nation, social class. The main thesis of the article is that as fictitious and real entities, cyborgs are prone to ideologization and burdened with the obligation to politicize. Therefore, when studying cyborgs in literature, film and comics, we must ask what ideologies and politicians they serve.

Opis:
This essay uses the expansion of decolonial studies in the so-called Decolonial Turn as a starting point to discuss a few recent significant criticisms against this project – notably those arising from decolonial feminism and counter-colonial thinking. The first criticism of the decolonial option refers to its rapid expansion, with a somewhat mythical portrayal of the Modernity/Coloniality project, thus risking the radical quality of initial ideas. Additionally, there is the pertinent criticism of the treatment initially given to the gender issue, which was not addressed by scholars considered to be precursors of this line of thought. Other powerful matters arose as decolonial thinking spread to different social science fields, including questioning the very possibility of criticism from academic circles. These criticisms generate profound reflections on this movement that intends to bring radical transformations to conservative academic knowledge production. Assuming that coloniality is constitutive of the present, we take these criticisms to look at decoloniality in the field of language studies. On that ground, we maintain that any epistemological breach must start from the contradictions of modernity. We believe that critical discourse studies improve understanding by situating intertextuality and interdiscursivity as inevitable aspects of every discourse, including academic theories and practices.

My reflections are focused on the issue of women's impact in the realm of international relations and world politics. These dimensions are discussed far too rarely in reference to the role of women and if so, majority of the analyses merely touches upon the surface of this phenomenon. Undeniably, the compexity of contemporary trends and long-term tendencies calls for more research in this area. Perhaps ourselves, the women of academia, we are not aware of the profound impingement of the feminine element on the world of inetrnational affairs. In order to counter these tendencies, the paper ponders three questions in particular: The first one asks how the relational nature of a woman influences the realm of international relations. The second raises the issue of the nature and direction of an evolution observable in the realm of world politics both in the theory and in practise. And finally, basing on obtained answers, I should like to question some possible recommendations for the future.

Feminism in music is not a new concept, but we can observe a new wave of pop feminism in pop music, in a younger generation of female artists. They are open to discuss taboo topics, connected to carnality, sexuality, body positivity or feminism. The artists such as Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé, Pink, Avril Lavigne or Taylor Swift, with more courage are presenting in their creation, until now – taboo topics, rejected in mainstream music. They are not afraid of portraying topics, such as: sexual freedom, women’s rights, the objectification of women, men power and domination, social injustice, fat shaming, slut-shaming, or existence of unfair stereotypes. They are also advocating the legalization of homosexual relationships, race equality and human rights.

Adopting a basically feminist standpoint leads one to reject those proposals, which would legislate that the masculine forms ought to be applied to men while the feminine forms ought to be applied to women. The article considers in particular the inferential roles of concepts to argue for a gender-neutral rendition of the historically masculine forms.

Opis:
The article discusses the question of political implications of French feminist theories, also known as feminist avant-garde. Referring to the strategic re-reading of the concept French Feminism by Christine Delphy, it is argued that such projects as écriture féminine have been appropriated by postmodern Anglo-American critique, which tends to fetishize the strategies of displacement and aestheticization of the political field. The aim of the article is to examine whether contemporary feminist theories can take up the challenge of French feminist avant-garde by going back to its political roots.

Opis:
The article deals with the relations between sex and shopping (wider: the contemporary forms of sexuality and lifestyle of consumerism) and biological, psychosocial, cultural reasons of such connections. The author analyses jokes about sex&shopping, popular scientific media texts, movies and popular literature, in which the two ideas sex&shopping are collected and compared. She also shows material categories: sex industry, prostitution, sponsoring. She investigates in which economical and social conditions the symbiosis of sex and shopping is successful. She hypothesizes that the formula sex&shopping is a kind of important metaphor for the contemporary society, shows the constant emancipation ambitions of women in the realm of economics and sex, characterizes ‘singles’ culture’ and the one type of feminism at the turn of 20thc., which is named power-dressing or glamour feminism.

The article is devoted to the works of Emma Tennant, an English writer, the author of, inter alia, the continuation of Sense and Sensibility, Emma, as well as Pride and Prejudice. A characteristic feature of Tennant’s writing was the ability to give new meanings to the texts and myths of the popular culture – so she did with the story of Elinor and Marianne, or Sylvia Plath, to whom she devoted one of her better texts. The article, based on the example of Emma Tennant’s writing, focuses on the issues of the strategy of creating literature as rewriting and functioning of feminist ideas in the modern literature.

We usually associate memory with facts. A simple gesture of leaving a lipstick trace, a kiss, used for several decades by Ewa Partum, is a form of leaving your mark, as well as representing your emotional state. It has become the artist’s trademark. At first, it was her individual gesture, a kind of artistic signature. In 2006 Partum invited a group of South African immigrants to perform the signature with her. I’d like to find out what is actually included in this artistic act, how it surpasses the border between the private and the public and how it becomes a specific form of materialised universalism, the practice of a shared thing.

Opis:
Dada movement stripped art of seriousness, turned art into a joke, a sophisticated fun. Where there were Dadaists, there was laughter, as Hans Richter once said. Dadaists formed an opposition: bour-geois false values, over which hovered the stench of death and money – versus life. They stood on the side of life; on the side of art stripped of bourgeois seriousness. But the Dadaists also found liberated joke – a joke that served no purpose, fought against nothing and attacked nothing. ‘Entracte’ by Francis Picabia and ready-mades by Marcel Duchamp were in fact the jokes, which formed a new concept of art – art liberated from the domination of taste. Readymades had all the attributes of artwork : author, title, year of creation, audience, critics, etc., but did they become works of art? The artists are the ones who choose and force us to follow their choices, who reject good taste and that is the way they take control over art – by separating good art from bad. The joke is changing the way we think about art, pointing to the ambivalence adopted by our assumptions about the world. In an interview, Duchamp said that the public treated very seriously contemporary art. Did he want to say that it was too serious? Fluxus developed dada-like ambiguity. Where the audience expected to see art, often they received something that could be perceived as joke. The ambiguity was attributed not only to Fluxus, but virtually to the entire art of the 1960’s, as evidenced by the Kamp aesthetics. Kamp is ‘the seriousness that fails’. Kamp means a change with respect to bad art and it shows that we can play with it. In the 1960’s and the 1970’s, in the second wave of feminism, laughter returns as a weapon, as a tool to combat patriarchal culture.

Opis:
The protagonists created by the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood are characterized by a constant struggle for survival, searching for identity and the voice that was taken away from them for various reasons. One of such protagonists is Penelope, immortalized in history thanks to Homer and addicted to the story of a man – her husband Odysseus. The article aims to present Penelopiada not only as a reinterpretation of a myth but also as an interesting reading proposal for high school students, which can be presented as an interpretative context when discussing texts from antiquity.
