Opis:
A three-dimensional finite element technique was used to analyse single pile lateral response subjected to pure lateral load. The main objective of this study is to assess the influence of the pile slenderness ratio on the lateral behaviour of single pile. The lateral single pile response in this assessment considered both lateral pile displacement and lateral soil resistance. As a result, modified p-y curves for lateral single pile response were improved when taking into account the influence lateral load magnitudes, pile cross sectional shape and flexural rigidity of the pile. The finite element method includes linear elastic, Mohr-Coulomb and 16-nodes interface models to represent the pile behaviour, soil performance and interface element, respectively. It can be concluded that the lateral pile deformation and lateral soil resistance because of the lateral load are always influenced by lateral load intensity and soil type as well as a pile slenderness ratio (L/D). The pile under an intermediate and large amount of loading (in case of cohesionless soil) has more resistance (low lateral displacement) than the pile embedded on the cohesion soil. In addition, it can be observed that the square-shaped pile is able to resist the load by about 30% more than the circular pile. On the other hand, pile in cohesionless soil was less affected by the change in EI compared with that in cohesive soil.

Przedmiotem badań były dwie substancje promieniochronne: benzofenon 4 (BP-4) i kwas fenylenobenzimidazolosulfonowy (PBSA). W pracy zbadano możliwość zwiększenia efektywności procesu fotokatalitycznego utleniania tych związków, prowadzonego w obecności TiO2 P25, po dodaniu soli Fe3+. Roztwory wodne zawierające próbki badanych substancji promieniochronnych naświetlano promieniowaniem UVA (λmax 366 nm) w obecności wyłącznie TiO2 P25 lub soli Fe3+ oraz w mieszaninie TiO2 P25 i soli Fe3+, w każdym przypadku przy pH~3. W próbkach pobieranych podczas naświetlania oznaczano metodą HPLC stężenie nierozłożonych substancji promieniochronnych. W pracy oceniano m.in. dynamikę zmian stężenia tych związków w trakcie procesu fotodegradacji oraz określono jego kinetykę. Stwierdzono, że w warunkach doświadczalnych obie substancje promieniochronne ulegały fotokatalitycznej degradacji, a jony Fe3+ miały wpływ na szybkość tego procesu. Efektywność ich fotodegradacji w mieszaninie TiO2 P25 i soli Fe3+ była większa w porównaniu z analogicznym procesem prowadzonym w obecności samego TiO2 P25. Stwierdzono też, że omawiany proces przebiegał zgodnie z kinetyką reakcji pseudopierwszego rzędu.
The subjects of this study were two sunscreens: 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone-5-sulphonic acid (benzophenone 4, BP-4) and 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid (PBSA). In this paper the possibility of increasing the photocatalytic oxidation efficiency of these compounds after the addition of Fe3+ salts to TiO2 P25 suspension was studied. Aqueous solutions containing the investigated compounds were irradiated with UVA radiation (λmax 366 nm) in the presence of TiO2 P25 or Fe3 + salt only and in a mixture of TiO2 P25 with Fe3+ salt in all cases at pH ~ 3. In the samples taken during irradiation, the concentrations of undecomposed sunscreens were Wpływ soli Fe3+ na fotokatalityczny rozkład substancji promieniochronnych w wodnej zawiesinie TiO2 279 determined using RP-HPLC method. Additionally, the dynamics of the concentration changes during the photodegradation process and its kinetics were determined. It was found that under experimental conditions, both sunscreens underwent the photocatalytic degradation and Fe3+ ions influenced the rate of this process. Their photodegradation efficiency in the presence of TiO2 P25 with Fe3+ salt was higher than that obtained in the process carried out in the presence of TiO2 P25 alone. Moreover, the process was in accordance with the first-order kinetics.

Introduction of small amounts of dopant Fe cations intitania was mainly intended for improving the oxidativepower of the host TiO2 surface, by shifting the absorption edge of the material towards the blue side of the visible range. Apart from this, other possible applications of Fe-containing TiO2 materials have been foreseen in the field of diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors for spintronics. As a general remark, while pristine and/or low-level doped titania materials remained a hot subject in basic research, and environment- and energy related applications, reports on Ti1-x FexO2 materials (x > 0.1) scarcely occurred in literature. We have initiated recently an investigation of heavily doped titania thin films within a wider iron compositionrange. Here, we report on the result of an XPS study of the RF sputtered oxygen-deficient thin films (x =0.15 - 0.62) and discuss the connection of the results with the macroscopic properties of the materials.

Phosphate (P) removal from aqueous solutions were studied by a new mineral adsorbent, tungsten (VI) oxide (WO3) nanoparticles (NPs), which has not been the subject of much research in the field of removing P contaminants from agricultural wastewater. In this paper, P was removed from aqueous solutions by a new mineral adsorbent, WO3 NPs and it was compared with magnetite (iron IV) oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (NPs) under the same ambient operating conditions i.e., The influence of the dosage of adsorbents, initial P concentration, contact time, pH and temperature. The values that achieved the best removal were recorded. It was concluded that the best limits for pH were at 2–3, contact time at 40 minutes, temperature at 45 °C and adsorbent dose at 1.0 g/L. Best results of the variables were applied on samples of real agricultural wastewater, which achieved removal ratio of 77.3% and 75.42% for Fe3O4 and WO3 NPs, respectively. SEM, EDX and FTIR images and analyses were conducted to describe the characteristics of nano-adsorbents used before and after P adsorption in aqueous solutions. The P adsorption kinetics for aqueous solutions were examined by fitting results of the experiment to both the first & second pseudo-kinetically models. The outcome indicated that kinematic data fit better with pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Moreover, the information captured from equilibrium adsorption was analyzed using isothermal methods (by Langmuir & Freundlich Forms). Their results showed that the Freundlich form is considered more suitable than Langmuir form in analyzing the biosorption of P ions. The thermodynamic demeanor of P adsorption by Fe3O4 and WO3 NPs was analyzed and evaluated, and the thermodynamic data analyses confirmed the process of P adsorption was spontaneous. The ΔG° value was negative, while ΔH° and ΔS° values found to be positive, which means that the adsorption of P was a spontaneous, random and endothermic operation. In general, Fe3O4 and WO3 nanoparticles had a high efficiency in removing phosphate from water. In addition, WO3 NPs has been identified as one of the most promising adsorbents due to its rapid and effective adsorption of pollutants.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań heterogenicznego paliwa rakietowego PBAN/NH₄ClO₄/HMX/Al zawierającego nano i mikrocząstki Fe₂O₃ lub ferrocen w roli katalizatora. Nanoproszek Fe₂O₃ był otrzymywany przez redukcję azotanu żelaza za pomocą alkoholu poliwinylowego w warunkach niskotemperaturowej syntezy spaleniowej. Zbadano morfologię i mikrostrukturę składników. Przeprowadzono obliczenia termodynamiczne i zmierzono prędkość spalania w bombie Crawforda. Stwierdzono, że katalityczny wpływ nanoproszku Fe₂O₃ na liniową prędkość spalania jest porównywalny z wpływem ferrocenu.
In the present work, aluminized PBAN/AP/HMX composite propellants containing nanometer and micrometer sized Fe₂O₃ as well as ferrocene as catalysts were tested. Fe₂O₃ nanopowders were prepared by the sol-gel auto-combustion method using polyvinyl alcohol as a gelating agent (and fuel) and iron nitrate as an oxidizer and a precursor of iron oxide. The morphology and microstructure of the components and propellant samples were determined. Thermodynamic calculations were performed and burning rates were measured using the Crawford strand burning technique. It was stated that the catalytic effect of the F₂O₃ nanopowder on the burning rate is comparable with that of ferrocene.

There is an industry interesting in intermetallic alloys in recent years. There are widely possibilities to adopt this kind of materials for structural units. More expensive materials can be replaced by them. A property which limits their wider application is the low plasticity at environment and elevated temperatures. In paper the results of the thermal microstructure modification are shown. To this end, the influence of annealing time and temperature on the intermetallic phase Fe3Al grain size was investigated. The impact of these factors on micro-hardness was examined as well. It was found that these operations cause the grain size reduction and the micro-hardness decrease.

In paper researching results of tribological proprieties Fe3Al intermetallic alloys after annealing are presented. Studies were conducted in the following environments: a water; an air and oil. For investigation purposes the tribotester pin-on-disk type with the contrsample made of steel 40H quenched and tempered was used. Tests were carried out with the following process parameters: pressure p = 2MPa and linear velocity (circuital) V = 0.46m/s. It was noted, that intermetallic samples with the small distinction in chemical compositions, annealed at different temperatures showed a large difference in the quantity of material loss in the all tested environments. Appropriately selected parameters of the intermetallic alloys annealing, provide their greater resistance to abrasion in the air and oil environments than in the case of steel.

Praca przedstawia krytyczną analizę obecnego stanu wiedzy na temat badań nad żaroodpornością stali typu Fe-Cr-Al z grupy AFA (Alumina Forming Alloys), których zachowanie w środowisku gorących gazów jest od lat przedmiotem wnikliwych badań. W warunkach wysokotemperaturowego utleniania tworzy się na ich powierzchni ochronna warstwa zgorzeliny zbudowana z tlenku glinu, który może występować w różnych odmianach krystalograficznych. Odmiany fazowe mogą ulegać transformacji od niestabilnej fazy γ poprzez δ i θ do stabilnej fazy α. O rodzaju utworzonej fazy decyduje temperatura procesu utleniania, skład atmosfery oraz czas. Przemianom fazowym tlenku glinu towarzyszy zmiana szybkości utleniania stali, ponieważ niestabilne tlenki wykazują wyższe szybkości narastania niż stabilny tlenek α-Al2O3. Dodatkowo w trakcie transformacji fazowej obserwuje się zmiany morfologii powierzchni tworzących się zgorzelin. Fazy przejściowe na ogół występują w postaci płytek, bardzo cienkich długich kryształów (whiskerów) oraz tworów blaszkowych, tworzących silnie rozwinięte powierzchnie, podczas gdy faza α wykazuje budowę kolumnową a utworzona z niej powierzchnia zgorzeliny jest pofałdowana.
This work reviews the current state of research regarding high temperature oxidation resistance of Fe-Cr-Al steels, that belong to a family of AFA (Alumina Forming Alloys). The behavior of these steels in hot gases environment is a subject of intensive research. During high temperature oxidation, the protective layer of alumina oxide is formed on their surface, which can have different crystallographic forms. Moreover, Al2O3 can transform from instable γ- phase to δ, θ and finally stable α-phase. The type of alumina depends on temperature, time and atmosphere composition. The phase transformation of aluminum oxide is accompanied with change of oxidation kinetics because instable oxides grow faster than unstable ones. Additionally, during phase transformation the morphology change of surfaces is observed. Instable phases have the form of platelets, very long thin crystals (whiskers) and blade-like crystals, in all cases resulting in the formation of highly developed scale surface. Stable α-phase shows columnar crystals construction with corresponding pleated scale surface.

The study was aimed at investigating the effect of the Fe3O4  hybrid deposited on graphene oxide (GO- Fe3O4) on the relative viability and DNA integrity. The properties of the GO-Fe3O4  hybrid were analyzed using a transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and thermal gravimetric method (TGA), while the efficiency of graphene oxide covalent functionalization with iron oxide nanospheres was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). L929 and MCF-7 cell lines were selected to analyze the biocompatibility of GO-Fe3O4  nanoparticles. The hybrid was tested using WST-1 and LDH leakage assays. DNA integrity was analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis and micronucleus assay was performed to examine chromosomal damage in the exposed cell lines. The tested GO-Fe3O4  hybrid did not significantly reduce cell metabolism of L929 cells. GO-Fe3O4 hybrid particles only slightly affected the integrity of cell membranes. DNA integrity and micronucleus assays did not indicate genotoxicity of the hybrid.

The results of studies of the microstructure and properties of cast high alloy steels containing 17% Cr and 0.8% C subjected to different variants of heat treatment are presented. For phase identification, the light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy as well as the X-ray diffraction analysis were used. The conducted studies revealed the presence of carbides in the microstructure, mainly of the M23C6 carbide, detected after both quenching and tempering at 200 and 600°C. The use of low and high tempering significantly reduced the test alloy hardness from 657.3 HV30 to 403.7 HV30. At the same time, hardness was observed to have an impact on the values of abrasion in the conducted Miller slurry test. Higher material hardness leads to lower wear expressed by mass loss.

Glasses in the Na2O–B2O3–SiO2–Fe2O3 system with a constant SiO2 content 70 mol% were synthesized using conventional melting in platinum crucibles in SiC-furnace in air. After synthesis and annealing, glasses were heat treated at 550°C for 96–144 hrs to promote phase separation. A tentative region of phase separation for this temperature was outlined. X-ray powder diffractometry results showed three iron-containing phases (Fe3O4, FeSiO3 and β-Fe2O3) forming in the investigated glasses with magnetite being the main phase as it is observed in most of the glasses. Chemical durability studies showed that compositions of phase-separated glasses suitable for synthesis of porous glasses, both iron-free and iron-containing lie in between 4 and 8 mol% of Na2O. Bulk samples of porous glasses were obtained within the chosen region having the following parameters: specific surface area 40–185 m2/g, porosity 30%–45%, pore diameter 3–14 nm. The parameters of porous structure of iron-containing porous glasses are of the same order of magnitude as the porous glass used for the multiferroic nanocomposite synthesis.

Opis:
The resistance of castings to abrasive wear depends on the cast iron abrasive hardness ratio. It has been anticipated that the white cast iron structure will be changed by changing the type of metal matrix and the type of carbides present in this matrix, which will greatly expand the application area of castings under the harsh operating conditions of abrasive wear. Detailed metallographic analysis was carried out to see the structure obtained in selected types of white cast iron, i.e. with additions of chromium and vanadium. The study compares the results of abrasive wear resistance tests performed on the examined types of cast iron.
Odporność żeliwa na zużycie ścierne zależy od stosunku twardości metalu i ścierniwa. W pracy założono kształtowanie struktury żeliwa białego w wyniku zmiany rodzaju osnowy metalowej oraz węglików, co znacznie rozszerza obszar zastosowania odlewu w trudnych warunkach zużycia ściernego. Przeprowadzono szczegółowa analizę metalograficzną struktury wybranych gatunków żeliwa białego t.j.: chromowego oraz wanadowego. W niektórych przypadkach zaproponowano koncepcje sterowania ilością i rodzajem węglików w osnowie metalowej żeliwa lub wprowadzania dodatkowych węglików do struktury eutektycznej tego rodzaju żeliwa. Ponadto w pracy porównano wyniki badań odporności na zużycie ścierne analizowanych gatunków żeliwa.

Opis:
Dynamic analyses of a transport aircraft landing gear are conducted to determine the effort of such a complex system and provide capabilities to predict their behaviour under hazardous conditions. This kind of investigation with the use of numerical methods implementation is much easier and less expensive than stand tests. Various 3D models of the landing gear part are defined for the multistage static FE analysis. A complete system of the main landing gear was mapped as a deformable 3D numerical model for dynamic analysis with the use of LS-Dyna code. In this 3D deformable FE model, developed in a drop test simulation, the following matters were taken into consideration: contact problems between collaborating elements, the phenomena of energy absorption by a gas-liquid damper placed in the landing gear and the response of the landing gear during the touchdown of a flexible wheel with the ground. The results of numerical analyses for the selected drop tests and the results from the experiments carried out on a real landing gear were used for verification of FE models and a methodology of the landing gear dynamics analysis. The results obtained from the various simulations of the touchdown have proved the effectiveness of the 3D numerical model and how many problems can be solved in the course of only one numerical run, e.g. geometric and material nonlinearities, a question of contact between the mating components, investigation of the landing gear kinematics, investigation of the energy dissipation problem in the whole system and the stresses influence on the structure behaviour, which can appear in some elements due to overload.

Opis:
Subject of the work include selected numerical models of the test stand intended for testing a prototype double multi-leaf spring of bi-linear nature. Basic design assumptions of the stand were as follows: provide laboratory tests of multi-leaf (single and double) springs designed for dependent suspensions of passenger cars of permissible weight up to 3,5 tones. The stand should allow for testing basic spring and strength characteristics in the quasi-static conditions and dynamic conditions with the impact of the force impulse or a set variable load characterized by a particular force amplitude (displacement) and frequency of its variations. Considered stand models include the tested spring, base, support and the hanger. This paper presents two types of FEM models of the spring element (beam and 3D). In the first element, components of the spring-hanger system were mapped by means of beam elements, in the second one by means of definite solid elements. The spring was loaded with a vertical force from 0 to 10000 N. A non-linear analysis of the bi-linear spring was carried out including clearance as well as the elastic analysis of the stand. The results of the numerical tests are presented in a form of tabular specifications, diagrams of displacements, and reduced stresses of selected components of the stand.
