    The experience the „Polish August 1980" was met with an interesting reflection and civic engagement on the part of Józef Tischner. This Cracovian philosopher and Catholic Priest is the author of the book „The Ethics of Solidarity". He introduced the concept of solidarity as a moral bond that occurs between people. Its implementation in times of communist oppression was associated with the concept of „bad policy." Tischner believed that in times of restored democracy (good politics) solidarity ties would be easier in practice, which turned out to be more complex. In the later period of reflection Tischner did not seem to appreciate the socio-political aspects of the ethos of solidarity, which would allow for the active participation of State.

    W artykule została ukazana rola, jaką filozofia klasyczna (popularyzowana m.in. przez Wojciecha Chudego) odegrała w procesie budzenia podmiotowości polskiego społeczeństwa i budowania ethosu „Solidarności” w latach 1980-1981. Philosophia perennis pomagała ludziom żyjącym w totalitarnym zniewoleniu „odzyskać” zawładnięty przez ideologiczną „nowomowę” język jako narzędzie wyrażania poznanej prawdy, określania własnej osobowej tożsamości i formułowania poglądów. Podkreślone zostało także wciąż aktualne znaczenie filozofii wieczystej dla zrozumienia kultury, człowieka i świata jako bytowej całości. Nauki szczegółowe choć są cennym źródłem wiedzy o świecie, to jednak programowo nie wyjaśniają poznanej rzeczywistości w świetle racji ostatecznych, ani nie podejmują tak istotnego dla człowieka pytania o cel i sens życia. Filozofia natomiast, może i powinna dostarczyć człowiekowi odpowiedzi na ważne pytania, aby na tym fundamencie mógł zbudować spójny i racjonalny światopogląd.
    The paper describes the role the classical philosophy (popularized by Wojciech Chudy, among others) played in the process of the awakening of the Polish society’s subjectivity and in creating the ethos of “Solidarity” in 1980-1981. Philosophia perennis helped people who lived in totalitarian enslavement to “recover” the language, subdued by the ideological “newspeak,” as a means to express the truth they discovered, determine their personal identity, and formulate their beliefs. In addition, the continuing relevance of the perennial philosophy for the understanding of culture, the human being, and the world as an ontological whole, was emphasized. Although particular sciences constitute a valuable source of the knowledge of the world, they do not explain, by definition, the known reality in the light of the ultimate reasons, nor do they address the questions, so important for the human being, of the purpose and the meaning of life. Philosophy, however, is able to and should provide the person with answers to vital questions and thus with a foundation for a coherent and rational worldview.

    Sustainable development is currently the most attractive political idea. Within the idea we can observe how shape ethics of sustainable development. Ethics has no theoretical basis, therefore it use of the achievments of environmental ethics. But sustainable development it is social idea, thats why ethics should regulate relations not only between man and environment but especially between man and society. For this reason we try to propose ethos of homo cooperativus which can claim to the global ethos. Theoretical reflection will allow us to conclude whether solidarity and justice are possible to realize by all people. If the answer will be negative, than we have rights to say that sustainable development it is a global conception?

    An important trend in Tischner’s philosophical output was the observation of the phenomena that would occur in the current social life of Poles. The trend gained particular significance at the turn of the 1970s and the 1980s, when the processes that finally led to the systemic transformation began. During this period, Tischner made a successful attempt to reconstruct the Polish social ethos. It turned out that its integral element is the presence of utopian projects to rebuild the social order in the country. Tischner stated in his analyses that these utopias play a constructive role in the social life because they motivate people to engage in the political struggle for deep system reforms. The article presents the content of Tischner’s reconstruction of Polish utopias from the 1970s and the 1980s and the correlation between social ethics, ideological discussions, and political practice of the declining period of the Polish People’s Republic.
    Ważnym nurtem w dorobku filozoficznym Tischnera była obserwacja zjawisk występujących w bieżącym życiu społecznym Polaków. Nurt ten nabrał szczególnego znaczenia na przełomie lat siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX wieku, gdy rozpoczęły się procesy, które finalnie doprowadziły do transformacji ustrojowej. W tym okresie Tischner podjął udaną próbę zrekonstruowania polskiego ethosu społecznego. Okazało się, że jego integralnym elementem jest obecność utopijnych projektów przebudowy ładu społecznego w kraju. Tischner stwierdził w swych analizach, że utopie te pełnią konstruktywną rolę w życiu społecznym, ponieważ dostarczają ludziom motywacji do zaangażowania w polityczną walkę o głębokie reformy ustrojowe. Artykuł prezentuje treść Tischnerowskiej rekonstrukcji polskich utopii z lat 70./80. oraz korelację między etyką społeczną, dyskusjami światopoglądowymi oraz praktyką polityczną schyłkowego okresu PRL.
