In this paper findings regarding the design and synthesis of High-Entropy Alloys based on mixing enthalpy, mixing entropy, δ parameter, Ω parameter and valence electron concentration are presented. Four alloys were synthesised with different predicted crystalline structures. Results of the microstructure and crystal structure studies are presented. It was shown that predicted structures as well as complex intermetallic phases exist in the material. The validity of valence electron concentration as well as additional parameters such as mixing enthalpy, mixing entropy and others necessary to obtain only the solid solution in High-Entropy Alloys were examined.

Bazując na, tak zwanej, drugiej zasadzie i związanym z nią kierunkiem przebiegu spontanicznych procesów z zakresu termodynamiki fenomenologicznej i statystycznej, w odosobnionych układach, omówiono podobne kierunki dotyczące innych dziedzin życia. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono pojęciu entropii, charakteryzującej powyższe kierunki. Rozważaniami, obok zjawisk przyrodniczych (fizyczno-chemicznych i biologicznych), objęto procesy cybernetyczne, ekonomiczne oraz zjawiska filozoficzne. Wskazano na występowanie dużej analogii zachowań tematycznego kierunku w analizowanych obszarach.
Based on the so-called second law and the related course of spontaneous processes in the field of phenomenological and statistical thermodynamics in isolated systems, similar directions in other areas of life were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the concept of entropy, which characterizes the above directions. The considerations, apart from natural phenomena (physico-chemical and biological), included cybernetic and economic processes as well as philosophical phenomena. The presence of a large analogy in the behavior of the thematic direction in the analyzed areas was indicated.

The paper summarizes properties of topological and sequence en- tropy of the Morse shift $X_\M$ generated by the Thue-Morse sequence $t_M$. The first part is an estimation of growth rate of possible subwords in $t_M$. We show a polynomial upper bound on the number of finite subwords occuring in $t_M$ which is $Cn^{2 log 3}$ for some constant $C > 0$. In the second part we prove that the sequence entropy of $X_M$ is achieved for the sequence $r (i) = 2^{2i} − 1$.

Multi-criteria decision support (MCDM) methods are widely used in many areas of science. This applies to economic, social and technical sciences. Implementing activities at the strategic, tactical or operational level requires appropriate tools to support decision-makers. The use of these tools requires the preparation of a decision model along with the formalization of the goal and the acquisition and preparation of data to make the decision accurate. Due to the wide application of MCDM in engineering practice, the article presents their application in air transport. It is an area that is constantly evolving, and all decisions at the strategic level have long-term effects and must be adequately justified. In the paper a compartmental extension of the classical SAW method with weights obtained using the compartmental Shannon entropy was proposed. This paper presents issues concerning the choice of airport layout and describes the problems that occur in determining the cost and capacity of airports. This paper reviews the literature on airport capacity and operations and airside air transport processes and the application of various multi-criteria decision support methods to airport problems. The main part of the article contains an optimization mathematical model aimed at determining the parameters of the elements comprising the airport, on the basis of which a simulation model was developed and a modified method of multi-criteria evaluation of SAW taking into account the interval numbers was presented, in which the set of weights was estimated by the Shannon entropy method. In the application part for 3 variants of the airport arrangement, the parameters were determined in the form of interval numbers and then evaluated using the presented method. The presented numerical example shows that the proposed method is an excellent tool to assist in solving complex decision problems where the data are imprecise and represented by interval numbers.

One of the mathematical tools to measure the generation rate of new patterns along a sequence of symbols is the Lempel-Ziv complexity (LZ). Under additional assumptions, LZ is an estimator of entropy in the Shannon sense. Since entropy is considered as a measure of randomness, this means that LZ can be treated also as a randomness indicator. In this paper, we used LZ concept to the analysis of different flow regimes in cold flow combustor models. Experimental data for two combustor’s configurations motivated by efficient mixing need were considered. Extensive computer analysis was applied to develop a complexity approach to the analysis of velocity fluctuations recorded with hot-wire anemometry and PIV technique. A natural encoding method to address these velocity fluctuations was proposed. It turned out, that with this encoding the complexity values of the sequences are well correlated with the values obtained by means of RMS method (larger/smaller complexity larger/smaller RMS). However, our calculations pointed out the interesting result that most complex, this means most random, behavior does not overlap with the “most turbulent” point determined by the RMS method, but it is located in the point with maximal average velocity. It seems that complexity method can be particularly useful to analyze turbulent and unsteady flow regimes. Moreover, the complexity can also be used to establish other flow characteristics like its ergodicity or mixing.

For invertible transformations we introduce various notions of topological entropy. For compact invariant sets these notions are all the same and equal the usual topological entropy. Minimization of the entropy production allowed to formulate mathematically the so-called Growth Law for both envisaged eutectic morphologies.

Entropy maximization subject to known expected values is extended to the case where the random variables involved may take on positive infinite values. As a result, an arbitrary probability distribution on a finite set may be realized as a canonical distribution. In present article a mathematical model of arc shape wire roughened solar air heater, on the basis of energy and exergy output rates, entropy generation rate and augmentation entropy generation number, has been developed. A parametric study leading to entropy generation minimization has also been performed. In the analysis the geometric and operating parameters which have been considered as variable are: inlet air temperature, duct depth, collector width to duct depth ratio, mass flow rate per unit collector area, and temperature rise parameter. Results have been presented to see the effects of these values on the energy and exergy output rates of the roughened solar air heater. Effect of different values of wire rib roughness parameters on entropy generation has also been presented. Finally, design curves and optimization for different rib roughness parameters on the basis of minimum entropy generation number with temperature rise parameter, have been presented and optimum values also have been found out 0.004 to 0.010 (Km2 )/W. The entropy generation rate obtained for the system, in the present work has been compared with those obtained for solar air heater with different roughness geometries on absorber plates available in the literature for common roughness parameters and operating parameters which validate the present results.

O entropii można mówić wszędzie tam, gdzie istnieje potrzeba rozpoznania i zmierzenia nieokreśloności badanych rozkładów zmiennych losowych. Potrzeba zmierzenia stopnia koncentracji występuje w badaniu wielu systemów, procesów czy zjawisk, w szczególności w badaniu zjawisk społeczno-ekonomicznych. Właśnie dlatego w badaniu tychże zjawisk coraz częściej wykorzystuje się miary zdefiniowane na gruncie teorii informacji. W artykule zaprezentowano pojęcia i własności entropii zmiennej losowej dyskretnej. Wykorzystano entropię Shannona wraz z jej uogólnieniami (entropią Rényiego i Tsallisa) do badania własności rozkładów prawdopodobieństw dyskretnych zmiennych losowych. Wskazano ponadto na liczne związki miar koncentracji dyskretnego rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa z entropią. W artykule zaproponowano miarę umożliwiającą ocenę stopnia koncentracji dyskretnego rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa będącą funkcją entropii Rényiego.
Everywhere where there is need for identification and measurement of indeterminacy of the distributions studied we can talk about entropy. The need to measure the degree of diversity occurs in studies on numerous systems, processes and phenomena, in particular in studies on socioeconomic phenomena. That is why in studies on those phenomena the measures or models defined on grounds of the information theory are used increasingly often. The paper presents categorization of notions and characteristics of the entropy of a discrete random variable. In addition to Shannon’s entropy, the Rényi’s and Tsallis entropies were applied for studies on the properties of distributions in case of probabilities of the random variables. The notion of entropy stemming from thermodynamics found application in many fields of sciences. Shannon’s entropy was defined on the grounds of the information theory, the Rényi’s entropy is the result of generalization of the Kolmogorov-Nagumo average while the Tsallis entropy is a certain function of Rényi’s entropy. The present paper unifies these approaches by presenting one general model of concentration measure that applies Rényi’s entropy.

Tematyką niniejszego rozdziału jest opis syntezy tlenków wysokoenetropowych oraz pokazanie ich potencjału jako materiałów do budowy termogeneratorów. W pracy zsyntetyzowano 8 przedstawicieli tej grupy związków, o składzie chemicznym zapewniającym wysoki współczynnik Seebecka. Badania polegały na zsyntezowaniu tlenków wysokoentropowych o wzorach: (Ba0,2Sr0,2Pb0,2Ca0,2La0,2)TiO3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Ti0,5Fe0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Ti0,5Co0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Fe0,5Co0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)FeO3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)CoO3. Główną motywacją przeprowadzonych badań było wytworzenie tanich oraz efektywnych materiałów, które można by wykorzystać do budowy termogeneratorów. W rozdziale przedstawiono i opisano proces syntezy w fazie stałej. Zaprezentowano również warunki syntezy i problemy wynikłe podczas przeprowadzonych syntez oraz możliwe rozwiązania problemów, a także pomiary współczynnika Seebecka próbki o wzorze: (Ba0,2Sr0,2Pb0,2Ca0,2La0,2)TiO3 w różnych temperaturach. Podczas badań termoelektrycznych otrzymano bardzo wysoki współczynnik Seebecka, dochodzący do –3000 μV/K w temperaturze 750 K. Z przedstawionych badań wynika, że badane tlenki wysokoentropowe posiadają duży potencjał do zastosowania w urządzeniach wykorzystujących zjawiska termoelektryczne.
The subject of the chapter is a description of the synthesis of high entropic oxides and showing their potential as materials for the construction of thermogenerators. In this work 8 representatives of this group of compounds were synthesized, with a chemical composition ensuring a high Seebeck coefficient. The research involved the synthesis of high entropy oxides with the formulas: (Ba0,2Sr0,2Pb0,2Ca0,2La0,2)TiO3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Ti0,5Fe0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Ti0,5Co0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)(Fe0,5Co0,5)O3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)FeO3; (Ba0,2Sr0,2Ca0,2Pb0,2La0,2)CoO3 The main motivation for the research was to produce cheap and effective materials that could be used to build thermogenerators. The paper presents and describes the solid-phase synthesis process. The synthesis conditions and problems arising during the performed syntheses, as well as possible solutions to the problem are also presented. Paper also presents measurements of Seebeck coefficient of sample with formula (Ba0,2Sr02, Pb0,2Ca0,2La0,2)TiO3. in different temperature. During thermoelectric tests, a very high Seebeck coefficient was obtained, reaching up to –3000 μV/K in temperature of 750K. The presented research shows that the tested high-entropy oxides (HEO) have great potential for use in devices using thermoelectric phenomena.

We extend the notion of the geometric entropy of foliation to foliated manifolds equipped with leafwise Finsler structure. We study the relation between the geometric entropy and the topological entropy of the holonomy pseudogroup. The case of a foliated manifold with leafwise Randers structure is considered. In this case the estimates for one dimensional foliation defined by a vector field in terms of the topological entropy of a flow are presented.

Multithreshold Entropy Linear Classifier (MELC) is a density based model which searches for a linear projection maximizing the Cauchy-Schwarz Divergence of dataset kernel density estimation. Despite its good empirical results, one of its drawbacks is the optimization speed. In this paper we analyze how one can speed it up through solving an approximate problem. We analyze two methods, both similar to the approximate solutions of the Kernel Density Estimation querying and provide adaptive schemes for selecting a crucial parameters based on user-specified acceptable error. Furthermore we show how one can exploit well known conjugate gradients and L-BFGS optimizers despite the fact that the original optimization problem should be solved on the sphere. All above methods and modifications are tested on 10 real life datasets from UCI repository to confirm their practical usability.

Opis:
We develop several methods of realization of scalar product and generalized moment problems. Constructions are made by use of a Hilbertian method or a fixed point method. The constructed solutions are rational fractions and exponentials of polynomials. They are connected to entropy maximization. We give the general form of the maximizing solution. We show how it is deduced from the maximizing solution of the algebraic moment problem.

Aims: To derive an expression for change in entropy of spinning black holes on the basis of the model for the energy of spinning black holes E BHs= KBHs R's ( Mahto et al. 2011a) & the model for entropy change δS bh = [wzór]δE ( Mahto et al. 2011b) and then calculate their values for different test spinning black holes. Study Design: Data for the mass of black holes have collected from the research paper entitled :Super massive Black Holes in Galactic Nuclei: Past Present & Future Research(2005), Space Science Reviews by L. Ferrarese & H. Ford and Black holes in Astrophysics(2005), New Journal Physics by R. Narayan. The data for black hole constant for spinning black holes (K BHs = 1.214x1044) is taken from the paper entitled: Study of Schwarzschild radius with reference to the spinning black holes. Bulletin of Pure and Applied Sciences (2011a). Place and Duration of Study: Department of Physics, Marwari College Bhagalpur and University Department of Physics, T.M.B.U. Bhagalpur, between December 2013 and March 2014. Methodology: A theoretical based work using Laptop to calculate the calculation for change in entropy of different test spinning black holes at Marwari College Bhagalpur and the residential research chamber of the first author. Results: The calculation shows that the change in entropy of spinning black holes of the rest masses for stellar – mass black holes (M ~ 5 – 20 Mʘ) in X-ray binaries is 2.483x10 63 to 39.731x10 63 J/K and for the super massive Black holes (M ~ 10 6 – 109.5 Mʘ) in active galactic nuclei is 9.932x10 73 to 28.432x10 80 J/K. The nature of the graph for XRBs is the same to the Hawking entropy with the event horizon and straight line for AGN which confirms the validity of equations EBHs=KBHs R’s and δS bh = [wzór]δE .Conclusion: The change in energy and entropy of black holes are mainly dependent on the mass and independent of their event horizons.

Opis:
The main goal of the paper is to provide a condition for which a maximum entropy generation occurs in a heat exchanger at constant inlet parameters (temperatures and mass flow rates). Knowing this condition is essential during the design of the heat exchanger as it allows designers to avoid one of its most unfavourable operating conditions in terms of thermodynamics. Entropy generation resulting from the resistance of heat-transferring fluids to flow was not taken into account. Entropy generation was analysed as a function of a heat flow rate at constant parameters at the inlet of a condenser and a counter-flow double-pipe heat exchanger. The analysis showed that for the condenser the entropy generation rate increases with the increase in the heat flow rate. The maximum entropy generation rate occurs for the maximum flow rate of the heat that can be transferred according to the definition of heat transfer effectiveness. For the counter-flow heat exchanger, the entropy generation as a function of the heat flow rate reaches maximum at constant inlet parameters (temperatures and mass flow rates). It appeared that the peak entropy generation, or the largest exergy loss, occurs when the outlet temperatures of the fluids are equal. This assertion was verified against data obtained from a simulator of the counter-flow heat exchanger for two different relations between heat capacity rates.

Opis:
The measurement instrumentation theory methodology makes it possible to take into acount both the metrological requirements to the restoration of measurement signal as well as to the measurement object dynamic properties.The information quantity, received from a certain measuring channel is defined as a difference between an initial (prior to the measuring) and a conditional (following the measuring) intropies which are based on the corresponding distributions laws. The measurement object information quantity received by the multiplex instrument with the needed accuracy is estimated.
Rozwój techniki komputerowej oraz informatyki spowodowały, z jednej strony, wprowadz. mikroprocesorów w strukturę przyrządu pomiarowego, a z drugiej strony - wykorzystywanie pojęć teorii informacji przy analizie procesów pomiarowych. Miernictwo coraz bardziej staje się dziedziną interdyscyplinarną. Z punktu widzenia informacyjnej teorii pomiaru można ocenić ilość informacji pobranej za pomocą przyrządu pomiarowego od obiektu badanego. W proponowanym artykule metodologia obliczenia ilości informacji dla przyrządu jednokanałowego została rozszerzona na wielokanałowy przyrząd czyli system pomiarowy. Przy założeniu modelu sygnału pomiarowego w postaci losowego stacjonarnego procesu z normalnym rozkładem gęstości prawdopodobieństwa i ograniczonym pasmem amplitudowym oraz z normalnym rozkładem błędu pomiarowego znaleziono zależności dla obliczenia ilości informacji. Te oceny pozwalają uwzględnic dynamiczne właściwosci obiektu badanego oraz metrologiczne kryteria oceny jego stanu. Zostały sformułowane również kryteria dotyczące szybkości przetwarzania tej informacji przez przyrząd cyfrowy. Ustalono, iż informacyjną efektywność można zwiększyć przez zmniejszenie wymagań co do szybkości przetwarzania informacji pomiarowej oraz mocy sygnału pomiarowego.

A formula of measures applied to assess the level of income inequality results from the intellectual basis on which this approach is founded. Our paper focuses on Generalized Entropy measures. The aim of our paper is two-fold. Firstly, it aims at presenting GE measures and discussing their properties, especially the property of additive decomposition. Secondly, the empirical aim is to assess the level of income inequality in Poland and to indicate its main determinants. In the study we use microdata obtained from EU-SILC that cover information about incomes received by individual household members in 2016. Five factors are chosen as the possible drivers of income inequality. The study proves the characteristics related to human capital are the most influential factors of income variability between households. The characteristics describing the composition of the household contribute to the overall level of inequality to a smaller extent.

We introduce a new class of generalized convex functions called the κ-convex functions, based on Korenblum's concept of κ-decreasing functions, where κ is an entropy (distortion) function. We study continuity and differentiability properties of these functions, and we discuss a special subclass which is a counterpart of the class of so-called d.c. functions. We characterize this subclass in terms of the space of functions of bounded second κ-variation, extending a result of F. Riesz. We also present a formal structural decomposition result for the κ-convex functions.

Defining the complexity of a green pattern exhibited by an interval map, we give the best bounds of the topological entropy of a pattern with a given complexity. Moreover, we show that the topological entropy attains its strict minimum on the set of patterns with fixed eccentricity m/n at a unimodal X-minimal case. Modern concepts of education are increasingly focused on e-learning and distance learning. Expectations from them are at least the same efficiency, but also results higher than those obtained by the traditional education system. In distance learning systems the modules of assistants (tutors, helpers) are very important. They provide immediate feedback both to the student and the distance learning system. Tracking and recognizing emotions in distance learning systems is of great importance, especially in the adaptive capacity of automated education systems towards the student, but also in a corrective role in the distance learning process itself. Here we present a model for evaluating students based on automatic recognition of emotions during task solving.

Recently, much interest has been directed towards software defined radios and embedded intelligence in telecommunication devices. However, no fundamental basis for cognitive radios has ever been proposed. In this paper, we introduce a fundamental vision of cognitive radios from a physical layer viewpoint. Specifically, our motivation in this work is to embed human-like intelligence in mobile wireless devices, following the three century-old work on Bayesian probability theory, the maximum entropy principle and minimal probability update. This allows us to partially answer such questions as, what are the signal detection capabilities of a wireless device, when facing a situation in which most parameters are missing, how to react and so on. As an introductory example, we will present previous works from the same authors following the cognitive framework, and especially the multi-antenna channel modeling and signal sensing.

Multithreshold Entropy Linear Classifier (MELC) is a recent classifier idea which employs information theoretic concept in order to create a multithreshold maximum margin model. In this paper we analyze its consistency over multithreshold linear models and show that its objective function upper bounds the amount of misclassified points in a similar manner like hinge loss does in support vector machines. For further confirmation we also conduct some numerical experiments on five datasets.

There is no need to stress the importance of information in today’s business. It is one of the key factors of success and the basic glue of any company, it creates culture and determines behaviours within it. It is a stimulus and an essence of decision processes that define aim of the company’s existence. It would be impossible to make any decision or to achieve goals set by the entrepreneurs (managers) without relevant information. Studying literature on the information theory brings up a question whether the term ‘information’, which undoubtedly is an essential part of our lives, with its practical use in business, means the same as in the information theory.
Znaczenia informacji w prowadzeniu działalności gospodarczej nie potrzeba dziś uzasadniać. Jest jednym z kluczowych czynników sukcesu i podstawowym spoiwem organizacji, tworzy jej kulturę i określa sposoby postępowania. Jest bodźcem i tworzywem procesów decyzyjnych, określających kierunek działania przedsiębiorstwa. Bez informacji nie byłoby możliwe podejmowanie decyzji i realizowanie przez przedsiębiorców (menedżerów) celów przedsiębiorstwa. Studiując obfitą literaturę z zakresu teorii informacji, można zastanawiać się, czy termin informacja używany w praktyce w działalności gospodarczej znaczy to samo, co stosowany w teorii informacji.

In this study, the magnetic properties and wave absorption characteristics of high entropy alloys are investigated. The high entropy alloys with FeNiMnCoCu, FeNiMnZnCo, and FeNiZnCoCu compositions were synthesized by the sol-gel method. After the sol-gel process, the annealing process and hydrogen reduction process was performed. FeNiMnCoCu and FeNiZnCoCu were revealed soft magnetic property. The saturation magnetization was 12 emu/g and 36 emu/g, respectively. And The coercive force was –45 Oe and –34 Oe, respectively. The high entropy alloy with these compositions was revealed wave absorption property at above 10 gigahertz frequency region. And it has shown the trend that wave absorption frequency has decreased with the sample thickness increasing.

In this paper, we introduce a generalization—referred to as the beta Pareto distribution, generated from the logit of a beta random variable. We provide a comprehensive treatment of the mathematical properties of the beta Pareto distribution. We derive expressions for the kth moments of the distribution, variance, skewness, kurtosis, mean deviation about the mean, mean deviation about the median, Rényi entropy, Shannon entropy. We also discuss simulation issues, estimation of parameters by the methods of moments and maximum likelihood.

Images of decay, both psychological and physical, permeate much of J.G. Ballard’s fiction, creating in effect a unique aesthetic that has acquired the eponymous description “ballardian.” This imagery, stemming from the surrealist tradition, is more than aesthetic affectation; it is, as this article argues, the manifestation of an eschatological theme underlying much of New Wave science fiction. This article also addresses how scientific discourse, especially references to entropy, and surrealist aesthetics intersect in his novels (High-Rise and The Drowned World) to provide a metaphor for Ballard’s frequent use of decay imagery. Though the surrealist component of his imagination has been well documented, what still invites closer scrutiny are the ideological assumptions linking Ballard’s incorporation of surrealism with the work of other surrealists and the way Ballard develops this theme for his own purposes.

In this paper, by differentiating the entropy’s generating function (i.e., h(t) = R SX̄F tX (x)dx) using a Caputo fractional-order derivative, we derive a generalized non-logarithmic fractional cumulative residual entropy (FCRE). When the order of differentiation α → 1, the ordinary Rao CRE is recovered, which corresponds to the results from first-order ordinary differentiation. This paper presents a novel global thresholding algorithm for the binarization of documents and gray-scale images using Cross-Entropy Clustering. In the first step, a gray-level histogram is constructed, and the Gaussian densities are fitted. The thresholds are then determined as the cross-points of the Gaussian densities. This approach automatically detects the number of components (the upper limit of Gaussian densities is required).

In the paper an effective entropy coder designed for coding of prediction errors of audio signals is presented. The coder is implemented inside a greater structure, which signal modeling part is a lossless coding backward adaptation algorithm consisting of cascaded Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), three Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS), and prediction error bias correction sections. The technique performance is compared to that of four other lossless codecs, including MPEG-4 Audio Lossless (ALS) one, and it is shown that indeed, on the average the new method is the best. The entropy coder is an advanced context adaptive Golomb one followed by two context adaptive arithmetic coders.

In The Vampire Reymont presents London as the imperial city falling into decline, where Polish immigrants, who lack identity, wander timelessly. It is also a place where a mercantile society is immersed in a reality dominated by technological development. Reymont's novel allows us to analyse the space of London at the end of the 19th century, and the human fate which is determined by this space. In my paper I would like to focus on the analysis of the city space,including the division into centre and suburbs of London, and losing the way in a maze (a maze of streets and a maze of subconsciousness of the main characters), the consequences of abandoning sacrum, entropy, and the crisis of family and art. The interesting vision of London created by Reymont gives us answers to a few important questions. Do the Polish immigrants find themselves in a new reality? How does the experience of a modern city affect people's lives? Why cannot contemporary man find his place in the surrounding world?

The notion of heat uncompensated transformation has early been introduced by Clausius in 1854 and next, after fifty years of forgetting, in 1904 Duhem has revalorized it and combined it with a new notion of work uncompensated transformation [3]. In this way the so-called ClausiusDuhem inequality has been established. In our paper we wish to present a novelized procedure of estimating the role of the uncompensated transformations of heat and work within the flow of viscous and heat conducting working fluid like water stream. The original procedure was introduced by Puzyrewski and it is essential in expressing of a local, in time and space, balance of entropy. Futhermore, this unique approach leads to redefinition of the efficiency notion, as is usually applied to fluid-flow machineries, to a new one important in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) three-dimensional modeling. As a result, it is shown that usage of the polytropic efficiency, instead of the isentropic efficiency, is more convenient and seems to be natural in CFD approach. Helpfully, we have also found a correlation between those two efficiency definitions with usage of proposed new dimensionless (criterion) number.

Celem pracy jest wstępna analiza wpływu czynników: fizjologicznego - wieku oraz chorobowych - zaburzeń oddychania, na entropię wieloskalową (Multiscale Entropy) rytmu pracy serca. W pracy dokonano analizy wpływu wieku na dwóch szerokich grupach badanych: osobach zdrowych (wiek od 1,5 do 63 lat) oraz grupie w wąskim przedziale wiekowym (40-50 lat) o różnym zakresie występowania zaburzeń oddychania w czasie snu (wskaźnik liczby zaburzeń oddychania RDI - Respiratory Disturbance Index 0,5 - 111 1/h). Wykazano wpływ wieku na wartość entropii (zmniejszanie), szczególnie w grupie osób dorosłych, oraz wpływ zaburzeń oddychania i zjawisk im towarzyszących (wybudzenia).
High costs and complication of standard polysomnography (PSG) lead to attempts to develop cheaper and less complicated methods. The analysis of heart rate complexity using non-linear dynamics methods seems to be promising, however the dynamics of heart rate is biased by several physiological factors. The aim of that study was to check the influence of a physiological factor - age and of respiratory disorders during sleep on heart rate variability analysed by multiscale entropy (MSE). The two groups were selected from archived measurements from the Sleep Laboratory of Institute for TBC and Lung Diseases Rabka Branch: a healthy group and a group of semi-constant age but without limitations to those disorders (Table 1). In both groups the full night diagnostics PSG according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) rules was performed. The R-R intervals were detected in the recorded ECG signal (250Hz), and the multiscale entropy (Goldberg's MSE) was calculated. We found high correlation between the entropy and age (Figs. 1, 2, 3) in adults, however in the children group (age<15) there was no such relation. Similar results were found in analysis of the influence of respiratory disorders on the RR time series entropy (Figs. 4, 5, 6, 7). The results lead to a conclusion that heart rate complexity described with use of the MSE analysis is strongly biased by age. W artykule pokazano, że czas życia systemów rekonfigurowalnych wpisuje się w przypadek super-ekstensywny, nieaddytywnej termodynamiki nierównowagowej i entropii Tsallisa, która oprócz składnika addytywnego o charakterze ilościowym, opisującym nierekonfigurowane struktury klasyczne, zawiera dodatkowy człon jakościowy wpisujący się w charakter struktur rekonfigurowalnych. Podejście to stanowi rozszerzenie klasycznej, addytywnej formuły entropii Boltzmanna-Gibbsa-Shannona. Badania dotyczą relacji pomiędzy postępem technologicznym określonym przez prawo Moore'a a czasem życia produktu w odniesieniu do struktur klasycznych i rekonfigurowalnych.
The article shows that the time of living of reconfigurable systems can be described by non-extensive, non-additive, non-equilibrium thermodynamics and Tsallis entropy, which beside the additive linear component that describes classical non-reconfigurable structures , has got additional term that can characterize the reconfigurable structures. The presented approach is the enhancement of classical additive formula of Boltzman-Gibbs-Shannon entropy. The relation between technological progress described by Moore's law and product time of living for classical and reconfigurable structures was shown.

In order to improve the efficiency of marine economic production and realize the sustainable and healthy development of marine economy, the spatial-temporal and dynamic evolution trend of marine economic green production efficiency in coastal areas of China is analysed by means of SFA basic model, coefficient of variation, coefficient of Gini and entropy method. It mainly includes three aspects: the result analysis of marine economy green production efficiency; the dynamic trend analysis of marine economy green production efficiency; the analysis of factors affecting marine economy green production efficiency. The results show that the factors affecting the total factor productivity of the marine economy are: development level of marine economy, marine material capital, level of opening to the outside world, marine industrial structure, marine human capital and marine environmental governance.

Aim/purpose–General real estate taxation is a process regulated, inter alia, by the Real Estate Management Act. It is intended to establish a tax base for real estate in the event of a change in real estate tax base. General taxation is one of several applications of mass valuation of real estate, which enables valuation of many properties at the same time and with a uniform approach. One of the methods of mass valuation of real estate already applied in practice is the Szczecin Algorithm of Real Estate of Mass Appraisal (SAREMA). One of the immanent features of general taxation and the algorithm itself is the division of a selected area into possibly homogeneous areas called taxing zones with-in the general taxation terminology and, more broadly, elementary areas, according to the nomenclature used in the SAREMA. The paper presents the results of the studies on the measurement of elementary areas homogeneity on the example of land plots located in Szczecin. It is important to assess whether the designated sub-areas ofvaluation cover properties similar to each other in terms of their specific characteristics. If so, it will help to obtain more accurate mass valuation results.Design/methodology/approach–The paper proposes to use a modified entropy measure to establish whether the designated areas are homogeneous in terms of the specified properties of real estate. The database of real estate includes more than 1.5 thousand urbanised land plots located in Szczecin. The measurement of entropy will be preceded by the specification of elementary areas. The available methods include the application of an expert approach, under which land boundaries will be indicated by property valuers. Findings –The main conclusion of the study is that a modified measure of entropy en-sures a better indication of the degree of indefiniteness of valued sub-areas and thus it offers a better way of supporting the delimitation of these sub-areas in comparison to the classical measure of entropy.Research implications/limitations–The delimitation of valuation sub-areas constitutes an important element of mass valuation. Proper execution of this process enables obtain-ing much more precise valuations. An objective measure of homogeneity gives a chance to compare different approaches to the creation of the above-mentioned sub-areas and to choose the best of them.Originality/value/contribution–The main achievement of the study is a proposal to modify the classical entropy measure, thanks to which it better reflects the specificity of the assessment of homogeneity of the areas valued in terms of property market analysis.

The entropy H of a continuous distribution with probability density function f* is defined as a function of the number of nodes (n) in a one-dimensional scalar random field. For the second order theory this entropy is expressed by the determinants of the covariance matrices and simulated for several types of correlation functions. In the numerical example the propagation of the entropy for the static response of linear elastic, randomly loaded beam has been considered. Two unexpected results have been observed: - function H(n) is entirely different for differentiable (m.s.) and non-differentiable fields, with the same parameters in the correlation functions, - in some cases, the greater randomness at the input (measured by the entropy) does not lead to the greater randomness at the output.

We present the detailed construction of a suitable Gaussian model which best fits for in the case of iris images, and this is the novelty of the proposal approach. The two most complete and stratigraphically most reliably identified Pleistocene sections in Southern Lithuania were chosen as the object of this study. Variations in relative entropy were assessed from the average data on the grain size,mineral and petrographic composition of the individual stratigraphically identified till beds. Data obtained in the current study showed that the relative entropy of till composition, which characterises the even distribution of the components according to relative parameters (such as the fraction intervals and, the number of minerals), indicates that the till composition was modified by matter dispersion (mixing) and condensation (concentration). The relative entropy of the content of different till components (grain size fractions, heavy and light minerals, petrographic groups) in glacial units of various ages is different and indicates different parameters of glacial dynamics and different routes of glacier movement. Also, the relative entropy of till composition in the direction of glacier movement shows repetitive patterns, which are predetermined by loading of the bottom layers of the glacier with till material up to its maximum concentration, followed by their settling. Ice loading with till material proceeds by grinding and mixing the transit and indigenous exarational material until the till mixture reaches its maximum density (volumetric weight) and becomes close to the optimum mixture.

In order to describe isotropic pore structure of a solid skeleton satureted with a fluid, two internal state variables are introduced: a volume porosity... and a structural parameter... . The internal friction in the skeleton material is incorporated by a tensor-valued internal state variable... . In the energy balance law, both heat fluxes appear and an added mass effect is incorporated to manifest the influence of the pore structure of the skeleton on the fluid motion. Consequences of the second law of thermodynamics are formulated in the form of four potential relations for stresses and heat flux vectors together with a representation of interaction forces.
Termodynamiczny model ośrodka porowatego nasyconego cieczą. Zaproponowano prosty model termodynamicznego ośrodka porowatego nasyconego cieczą. Dla opisu izotropowej struktury porów stałego szkieletu nasyconego cieczą zostały wprowadzone dwie skalarne zmienne stanu: objętościowa porowatość... i parametr strukturalny... .Lepkość wewnętrzna materiału szkieletu została uwzględniona poprzez tensorową zmienną stanu... .Własności termiczne zostały opisane przez pojedyńczą funkcję gęstości entropii... i dwie termiczne zmienne stanu ... i ... . W prawie bilansu energii występują oba strumienie ciepła, zaś uwzględnienie efektu masy dołączonej odzwierciedla wpływstruktury porów na ruch cieczy. Sformułowano konsekwencje drugiego prawa termodynamiki w postaci 4 związków potencjalnych dla naprężeń i wektorów strumienia ciepła wraz z reprezentacją sił oddziaływania.

Opis:
A novel method for calculation of the entropy measure in wavelet space is proposed. This perceived-based entropy measure uses a Second Order Model entropy estimator, in which the occurrence of neighbors is considered in formulation. It has the intention to allow the implementation of a more suitable measure in coding processes and a relationship between the metric and the description of perceptual features. This method is used for the Rate-Distortion optimization in order to improve the bit-allocation coding algorithm, demonstrating that the wavelet-based entropy estimates a truncation step close to the target rate. The hypothesis is founded in the effect of distortion on the coefficient allocation. Because entropy measure is a close approximation of the conditional probability of image in multiresolution space, it provides an adequate representation for the information of a Detail feature. A definition of Detail-based homogeneity variance criteria is used for the information quantity - wavelet representation space, in order to find the image that fits a given Quality Level criteria. Experimental results are obtained for artificial and natural databases.

This paper is an extended Polish version of the article Emergenz, Spezifizitӓt und Entropie im Lichte der anthropozentrischen Linguistik, originally written in German and submitted for publication in the Germanica Wratislaviensia 144. First, a preliminary model of generating (specialized) knowledge will be proposed, which was built across anthropocentric linguistics, the concept of emergence and selected research in the field of neurobiology. The model is aimed at offering a possible solution to the problem of interdependence between human language skills and knowledge generating. Second, a redefinition of the terms specificity and entropy in the light of the anthropocentric theory of human languages will be outlined. It has to be highlighted that the present considerations are merely a theoretical draft which requires a more solid linguistic, philosophical and neurobiological foundation.

Opis:
Time is absolute in standard quantum theory and dynamical in general relativity. The combination of both theories into a theory of quantum gravity leads therefore to a “problem of time”. In my essay, I investigate those consequences for the concept of time that may be drawn without a detailed knowledge of quantum gravity. The only assumptions are the experimentally supported universality of the linear structure of quantum theory and the recovery of general relativity in the classical limit. Among the consequences are the fundamental timelessness of quantum gravity, the approximate nature of a semiclassical time, and the correlation of entropy with the size of the Universe.

The main aim of this paper is to improve the heat transfer in a square cavity with a body at the left wall filled with a Al2O3/water nanofluid for different geometries. Numerous simulation experiments are conducted. A relative temperature is maintained at the vertical and top horizontal walls while the bottom wall is warm. The finite volume approach is considered to resolve the equations governing the thermal transfer flow in the physical domain based on the SIMPLER algorithm. In this study, different values of the following parameters are considered: Rayleigh number (104 ≤ Ra ≤ 105) and solid volume fraction (0 ≤ φ ≤ 0.1) of nanoparticles (NPs). Parameters, such as the Rayleigh (Ra) and Bejan (Be) numbers, thermal conductivity, body’s dimensions, and NPs volume fraction, which directly affect the entropy generation and heat transfer rate, are studied in a particular way. The obtained results show that entropy generation goes ahead with the Ra increase and inverse to the solid volume fraction increase. One can notice that the heat transfer has a proportional relation with φ and Ra.

This paper presents mathematical modelling and numerical analysis to evaluate entropy generation analysis (EGA) by considering pressure drop and second law efficiency based on thermodynamics for forced convection heat transfer in rectangular duct of a solar air heater with wire as artificial roughness in the form of arc shape geometry on the absorber plate. The investigation includes evaluations of entropy generation, entropy generation number, Bejan number and irreversibilities of roughened as well as smooth absorber plate solar air heaters to compare the relative performances. Furthermore, effects of various roughness parameters and operating parameters on entropy generation have also been investigated. Entropy generation and irreversibilities (exergy destroyed) has its minimum value at relative roughness height of 0.0422 and relative angle of attack of 0.33, which leads to the maximum exergetic efficiency. Entropy generation and exergy based analyses can be adopted for the evaluation of the overall performance of solar air heaters.

In this publication a Doctrine for the Conditional Extremization of the Hybrid-Optional Effectiveness Functions Entropy is discussed as a tool for the Reliability Assessments of Engineering Systems. Traditionally, most of the problems having been dealt with in this area relate with the probabilistic problem settings. Regularly, the optimal solutions are obtained through the probability extremizations. It is shown a possibility of the optimal solutions “derivation”, with the help of a model implementing a variational principle which takes into account objectively existing parameters and components of the Markovian process. The presence of an extremum of the objective state probability is observed and determined on the basis of the proposed Doctrine with taking into account the measure of uncertainty of the hybrid-optional effectiveness functions in the view of their entropy. Such approach resembles the well known Jaynes’ Entropy Maximum Principle from theoretical statistical physics adopted in subjective analysis of active systems as the subjective entropy maximum principle postulating the subjective entropy conditional optimization. The developed here with Doctrine implies objective characteristics of the process rather than subjective individual’s preferences or choices, as well as the states probabilities maximums are being found without solving a system of ordinary linear differential equations of the first order by Erlang corresponding to the graph of the process. Conducted numerical simulation for the proposed mathematical models is illustrated with the plotted diagrams.

By analysing global and local symmetry, this paper will present a hypothesis on the future shape and energy expansion of the Universe. Tungsten powder particles have been encapsulated with thin CrMnFeCoNi layers by magnetron sputtering method using high entropy alloy as a target. In the course of sputtering the powder surface has been periodically analyzed. The multimetallic coatings were being dissolved in 2 M HCl and the obtained solutions were analyzed by ICP method to determine Cr3+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ ions concentration. The aim of the analysis was comparison of atomic proportions of the elements in the target and in obtained layer and indirect determining of the layer thickness.

Let T be a precompact subset of a Hilbert space. We estimate the metric entropy of co(T), the convex hull of T, by quantities originating in the theory of majorizing measures. In a similar way, estimates of the Gelfand width are provided. As an application we get upper bounds for the entropy of co(T), $T={t_1,t_2,...}$, $||t_j||≤a_j$, by functions of the $a_j$'s only. This partially answers a question raised by K. Ball and A. Pajor (cf. [1]). Our estimates turn out to be optimal in the case of slowly decreasing sequences $(a_j)_{j=1}^∞$.

Opis:
Soft-combining algorithms use retransmissions of the same codeword to improve the reliability of communication over very noisy channels. In this paper, soft-outputs from a maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoder are used as a priori information for decoding of retransmitted codewords. As all received words may not need the same number of retransmissions to achieve satisfactory reliability, a stop criterion to terminate retransmissions needs to be identified. As a first and very simple stop criterion, we propose an algorithm which uses the sign of the soft-output at the MAP decoder. The performance obtained with this stop criterion is compared with the one assuming a genius observer, which identifies otherwise undetectable errors. Since this technique needs always a particular number of initial retransmissions, we exploit cross-entropy between subsequent retransmissions as a more advanced but still simple stop criterion. Simulation results show that significant performance improvement can be gained with soft-combining techniques compared to simple hard or soft decision decoding. It also shows that the examined stop criteria perform very close to the optimistic case of a genius observer.

A generalized workflow of scientific process requires data to be obtained, reprocessed, integrated, optionally transformed, modelled and finally interpreted in order to understand the underlying process. This procedure is affected by both objective and subjective uncertainties. In parallel with the development of geostatistics, the role of uncertainty has been widely investigated in geosciences. This has led to the introduction of new concepts, taken for example from thermodynamics, such as entropy. Predicting the subsurface is an especially thankless effort, as data are driven from spatially highly limited direct sources. The following paper provides an review of various applications of the Shannon entropy theorem in geoscience. Information entropy, initially proposed by Shannon (1948) provides an objective measure of overall system uncertainty. Significant concern has been focused on the application of Shannon entropy to provide an objective measure of joint system uncertainty and visualization of its spatial distribution. The area of extensively drilled Eocene amber-bearing deposits located in the Lubelskie voivodeship was selected as a case study to investigate the quality of prediction stochastic lithofacies models. The importance of adding secondary variables to a stochastic model is also reviewed here. Adding new data and rerunning the simulation allows assessment of its impact on the predictability of a stochastic model. The most important conclusion from the study is that the deposition of amber-bearing lithofacies occurred mostly in the northern part of the area investigated, as shown also by ongoing exploitation of the deposit.

In this study, a molybdenum alloy with dispersed high-entropy particles was fabricated using the powder metallurgy method. The high-entropy powder, composed of Nb, Ta, V, W, and Zr elements with a same atomic fraction, was prepared via high-energy ball milling. Using this powder, an ideal core-shell powder, composed of high-entropy powder as core and Mo powder as shell, was synthesized via the milling and reduction processes. These processes enabled the realization of an ideal microstructure with the high-entropy phase uniformly dispersed in the Mo matrix. The sintered body was successfully fabricated via uniaxial compaction followed by pressureless sintering. The sintered body was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope, and the high-entropy phase is uniformly dispersed in the Mo matrix.

Model rynku łączonego [Utkin, 2014a] jest niezupełny i pozbawiony możliwości arbitrażu. Występują w nim wypłaty nieosiągalne. O ile wypłata osiągalna ma jedną wartość wyceny bezarbitrażowej, to zbiór wartości wyceny bezarbitrażowej wypłaty nieosiągalnej jest przedziałem otwartym. Na początku przeanalizowano wypłaty na rynku łączonym pod względem osiągalności. Główny cel artykułu to wyznaczenie ceny entropowej dowolnej wypłaty na rynku łączonym. Po wyrażeniu względnej entropii, jako funkcji parametru rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa martyngałowego, otrzymano równanie parametru minimalizującego entropię, będące równaniem liniowym lub kwadratowym. Za pomocą optymalnego parametru wyznaczono rozkład prawdopodobieństwa martyngałowego, minimalizujący entropię, a następnie cenę entropową. Ponadto, na rynku łączonym rozważono warunkową minimalizację entropii i uzyskano związek mnożników Lagrange’a z portfelem maksymalizującym oczekiwaną wykładniczą użyteczność wypłaty. Stosując charakterystykę minimalnej entropii [Frittelli, 2000], wyznaczono optymalny portfel, rozwiązując pewien układ równań liniowych.
The joined market model [Utkin, 2014a] is an incomplete one and has no arbitrage opportunities. It contains the non-attainable payoffs. While the attainable payoff has one price, the set of prices of the non-attainable payoff is there an open interval. First, we analyse the attainability of the payoffs in the joined market. The main aim of this paper is to determine the entropy as a function of the variable and to find its minimum as a solution of one or two degree equation. Using this solution we determine the optimal martingale probability distribution and we formulate the entropy price. Moreover, in case of the joined market, we consider the conditional entropy minimization and we obtain the relations between the Lagrange multipliers and the portfolio maximizing expected exponential utility of the payoff. Applying the minimal entropy characterization of minimal entropy [Frittelli, 2000] we determine the optimal portfolio by solving a linear equations system.

W niniejszej pracy wyrażono pogląd, że poznanie entropii obiektu powinno uwzględniać prawdopodobieństwa wszystkich jego rozróżnialnych stanów niezawodnościowych. Zauważono, że rozróżnialność ta zależy od struktury tego obiektu i dwóch niekwestionowanych pryncypiów diagnostyki technicznej. Pierwsze z nich głosi, że element jest niezdatny, jeśli wszystkie jego sygnały wejściowe są dopuszczalne, a sygnał wyjściowy - niedopuszczalny, a drugie, że - sygnał wyjściowy elementu jest niedopuszczalny, jeśli co najmniej jeden z jego sygnałów wejściowych jest także niedopuszczalny. Narzędziem wyznaczenia prawdopodobieństw stała się znana z teorii grafów binarna macierz osiągalności, a graficzną ilustracją struktury - graf Hertza.
In the paper, an idea is presented that in finding out the object's entropy, the probability of all its distinguishable reliable states should be taken into account. It was stated that this distinction depends both on the object structure and two undisputable principles of technical diagnostics. First of them says that an element is unsuitable if all its input signals are permissible and an output signal is not permissible. The second principle says that an output signal of an element is not permissible if at least one of its input signals is not also permissible. As a tool for determination of probabilities, a binary achievability matrix, known from graphs theory, has been chosen and for graphical illustration of a structure - the Hertz graph has been used.

Research background: The value of the property can be determined on an individual or mass basis. There are a number of situations in which uniform and relatively fast results obtained by means of mass valuation undoubtedly outweigh the advantages of the individual approach. In literature and practice there are a number of different types of models of mass valuation of real estate. For some of them it is postulated or required to group the valued properties into homogeneous subset due to various criteria. One such model is Szczecin Algorithm of Real Estate Mass Appraisal (SAREMA). When using this algorithm, the area to be valued should be divided into the so-called location attractiveness areas (LAZ). Such division can be made in many ways. Regardless of the method of clustering, its result should be assessed, depending on the degree of implementation of the adopted criterion of division quality. A better division of real estate will translate into more accurate valuation results. Purpose of the article: The aim of the article is to present an application of hierarchical clustering with a spatial constraints algorithm for the creation of LAZ. This method requires the specification of spatial weight matrix to carry out the clustering process. Due to the fact that such a matrix can be specified in a number of ways, the impact of the proposed types of matrices on the clustering process will be described. A modified measure of information entropy will be used to assess the clustering results. Methods: The article utilises the algorithm of agglomerative clustering, which takes into account spatial constraints, which is particularly important in the context of real estate valuation. Homogeneity of clusters will be determined with the means of information entropy. Findings & Value added: The main achievements of the study will be to assess whether the type of the distance matrix has a significant impact on the clustering of properties under valuation.

Opis:
The problem of modeling different parts of computer systems requires accurate statistical tools. Cache memory systems is an inherent part of nowadays computer systems, where the memory hierarchical structure plays a key point role in behavior and performance of the whole system. In the case of Windows operating systems, cache memory is a place in memory subsystem where the I/O system puts recently used data from disk. In paper some preliminary results about statistical behavior of one selected system counter behavior are presented. Obtained results shown that the real phenomena, which have appeared during human-computer interaction, can be expressed in terms of non-extensive statistics that is related to Tsallis proposal of new entropy definition.

In this paper a methodology of assessment and optimization of groundwater quality monitoring network which takes into account the evaluation criteria derived from the Shannon information theory is presented. The fundamental criteria derived from this theory are: (1) the value of marginal information entropy, which is a measure of the amount of information containing in the data in a location of sampling point, and (2) the value of transinformation (mutual information) which measures the amount of information shared between each of two sampling points. Transinformation can be interpreted as an index of the stochastic dependence between the random variables corresponding to groundwater quality data recorded in different sampling points of monitoring network and shows the reduction of uncertainty included in one variable due to the knowledge of the other variable. In the optimization problem the objective function involving the value of transinformation of the investigated water quality parameters (Cl, Cu, Na) is minimized. To minimize the objective function the simulated annealing algorithm, which allows to find a satisfactory sub-optimal solution, was used. The proposed methodology was applied to optimize the groundwater monitoring network of contaminant reservoir Żelazny Most, one of the worlds biggest industrial waste disposal site, which collects post-flotation contaminants originating from copper ore treatment. The results show an increase in the effectiveness of the monitoring network by reducing the number of sampling points while maintaining an acceptable amount of information available in the network.

To achieve true randomness of numbers, the entropy source needs to be efficient. The statistical testing of efficiency of entropy source is necessary as it is used in random number generators for cryptography, simulation, statistical sampling, etc. 5000 numbers each were generated in four experimental entropy conditions: Control experiment with white light, Experimental conditions with multicoloured light with light path not disrupted, while light with path disrupted by thermocol balls, multicoloured light with path disrupted by thermocol balls. The numbers thus generated using each entropy condition were tested by Auto Correlation Factor Test to identify optimal experimental condition. The results were displayed in graphical and tabular format. The four graphs depicted the autocorrelations clearly showing that the best results were obtained for the fourth experimental condition ‘multicoloured light fan on’. It was found that Autocorrelation factor test is a powerful test for empirical assessment of efficiency of entropy source for random number generation. If the random number generator developed by any individual or organization is tested by Autocorrelation factor test, the efficiency of the entropy source can be pre-established thus preventing post hazards like hacking of random numbers. The security of data is a major concern in all areas such as defense, banking, research, designing and evaluation of examinations, etc.

It is well known that the Hubbard tree of a postcritically finite complex polynomial contains all the combinatorial information on the polynomial. In fact, an abstract Hubbard tree as defined in [23] uniquely determines the polynomial up to affine conjugation. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions enabling one to deduce directly from the restriction of a quadratic Misiurewicz polynomial to its Hubbard tree whether the polynomial is renormalizable, and in this case, of which type. Moreover, we study dynamical features such as entropy, transitivity or periodic structure of the polynomial restricted to the Hubbard tree, and compare them with the properties of the polynomial on its Julia set. In other words, we want to study how much of the "dynamical information" about the polynomial is captured by the Hubbard tree.

W pracy przedstawiono architekturę klasyfikatora rozmytego opartego na entropii rozmytej oraz zbadano jego wydajność na standardowych zestawach danych: Iris i Wisconsin breast cancer. Wyniki symulacji pokazują, że przedstawiony klasyfikator daje zadawalające wskaźniki klasyfikacji.
In this paper, we present the architecture of fuzzy classifier based on fuzzy entropy and examine its performance on Iris and Wisconsin breast cancer data sets. Simulation results show that the presented classifier has a satisfactory classification rate.

Due to long-term use under challenging conditions, the sub-elements of induction motors may suffer certain defects over time. Such defects impair the vibration characteristics of the motors in different ways, depending on the type of defect. Therefore, the change in vibration characteristic provides indicators about the fault type and can be used in preventive maintenance strategies to ensure safe operation of the system. In this work, discrete-time vibration data were transformed into 2-dimensional grey-level images and decomposed into individual components by the Wavelet decomposition method. Features based on entropy and column correlation were extracted from these components and used to classify motor faults by using the Support Vector Machine method implemented by using the Sequential Minimal Optimisation algorithm. When the selected classifier is compared with other popular Machine Learning algorithms, it is observed that motor faults are more successfully classified, and these observations are presented in detail with comparative classification performance results.

The thermal effects of a stationary Stokesian flow through an elastic micro-porous medium are compared with the entropy produced by Darcy’s flow. A micro-cellular elastic medium is considered as an approximation of the elastic porous medium. It is shown that after asymptotic two-scale analysis these two approaches, one analytical, starting from Stoke’s equation and the second phenomenological, starting from Darcy’s law give the same result. The incompressible and linearly compressible fluids are considered, and it is shown that in micro-porous systems the seepage of both types of fluids is described by the same equations.

The way brain networks maintain high transmission efficiency is believed to be fundamental in understanding brain activity. Brains consisting of more cells render information transmission more reliable and robust to noise. On the other hand, processing information in larger networks requires additional energy. Recent studies suggest that it is complexity, connectivity, and function diversity, rather than just size and the number of neurons, that could favour the evolution of memory, learning, and higher cognition. In this paper, we use Shannon information theory to address transmission efficiency quantitatively. We describe neural networks as communication channels, and then we measure information as mutual information between stimuli and network responses. We employ a probabilistic neuron model based on the approach proposed by Levy and Baxter, which comprises essential qualitative information transfer mechanisms. In this paper, we overview and discuss our previous quantitative results regarding brain-inspired networks, addressing their qualitative consequences in the context of broader literature. It is shown that mutual information is often maximized in a very noisy environment e.g., where only one-third of all input spikes are allowed to pass through noisy synapses and farther into the network. Moreover, we show that inhibitory connections as well as properly displaced long-range connections often significantly improve transmission efficiency. A deep understanding of brain processes in terms of advanced mathematical science plays an important role in the explanation of the nature of brain efficiency. Our results confirm that basic brain components that appear during the evolution process arise to optimise transmission performance.

The paper presents an analysis of relations describing entropy generation in a condenser of a steam unit. Connections between entropy generation, condenser ratio, and heat exchanger effectiveness, as well as relations implied by them are shown. Theoretical considerations allowed to determine limits of individual parameters which describe the condenser operation. Various relations for average temperature of the cold fluid were compared. All the proposed relations were verified against data obtained using a simulator and actual measurement data from a 200 MW unit condenser. Based on data from a simulator it was examined how the sum of entropy rates, steam condenser effectiveness, terminal temperature difference and condenser ratio vary with the change in the inlet cooling water temperature, mass flow rate of steam and the cooling water mass flow rate.

Opis:
Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) is one of the most environmentally friendly non-conventional machining processes, which can be employed to cut hard and thin materials without any thermal effects. In this study, the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) has been combined with the Entropy method and employed to find out the multi-criteria decision-making of process parameters. Experimental investigations have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the AWJM process in terms of surface roughness (Ra) and kerf angle (Ka). The selected process parameters are a stand-off distance (SOD), traverse speed (TS), and abrasive flow rate (AFL), whereas the AL-alloy 2024-T3 was selected as the work piece material. The image process technique has been utilized to measure the values of the Ka. The results demonstrate that the optimal solutions of the AWJM process, which give the smallest value of Ra and minimizes Ka, are 2mm, 20mm/min, and 100 g/min, for SOD, TS, and AFL respectively.

The yield point is one of the basic characteristics of construction materials, which are used in the design engineering calculations. The methods used to determine the yield point is based on the interpretation of the geometric shape of the curve uniaxial tension. This shape is specific for different construction materials and depends among others to the conditions carrying trials. Specific guidelines for determining the yield point were included in the standards specification. The conventionality of procedure concerns especially materials, which, in their deformation characteristic do not have a distinct top of knee. The authors propose an alternative method based on the use of the concept of the metric entropy by Kolmogorov-Sinai. The metric entropy by Kolmogorov-Sinai is used to study the phenomena about a dynamic character. Therefore, this method requires the recording of more number of measuring points: from a few hundred to a dozen thousand, depending on the type of research of constructional materials. A dynamic character of measurement data results from their scatter, which consists of local, non-linear disturbances occurring during deformation of the material and the noise, associated from the action of acquisition path. The aim of the study is to present a more objective method of determining the yield point structural materials, which do not require the use of conventional procedures. The paper presents the results determining of this constant material on the basis of data records monoaxially stretching of tests for metals used in shipbuilding.

In this study, precisely controlled large scale gas atomization process was applied to produce spherical and uniform shaped high entropy alloy powder. The gas atomization process was carried out to fabricate CoCrFeNiMn alloy, which was studied for high ductility and mechanical properties at low temperatures. It was confirmed that the mass scale, single phase, equiatomic, and high purity spherical high entropy alloy powder was produced by gas atomization process. The powder was sintered by spark plasma sintering process with various sintering conditions, and mechanical properties were characterized. Through this research, we have developed a mass production process of high quality and spherical high entropy alloy powder, and it is expected to expand applications of this high entropy alloy into fields such as powder injection molding and 3D printing for complex shaped components.

The business environment dynamics is governed by a high degree of uncertainty and risk; consequently, in a majority of cases investors face serious difficulties when making business decisions. Additionally, when detailed statistical information relating to industry is missing, any decisions may become a matter of highly risky conjectures. The present article proposes a simultaneous equation model based on the entropy econometrics estimator for recovering some key industrial subsector long-term equilibrium characteristics in the situation where only sparse, insufficient statistical information is available (e.g. only aggregated data on the whole industry). The model is applied to the transportation equipment manufacturing industry in Poland, which is composed of eight sub-sectors. As a result of the above procedure, an observation has been made that all firms from different sub-sectors have to increase their steady-state concentration ratios, while the highest concentration corresponds to the lowest increase in profitability. The model outputs conform to the market tendency in this sector and should lead to further applications of the NCEE methodology in business activity on a worldwide scale.

Opis:
This paper presents the phenomenon of anticipation which is one of the manifestations of linguistic maturity and language user rationality. Anticipation, taking place essentially in implicit structures and based on evolutionary old intuition, improves speech comprehension and increases the efficiency of cognitive processes. The phenomenon in question is presented on the example of foreign language communication, because it is there that the mechanisms governing the formulation of accurate hypotheses about form and content are particularly evident. The first part of the article discusses speech perception, and with it the categorization and selection of an appropriate cognitive schema conditioning accurate anticipation. The second part presents factors that facilitate and hinder the right hypothesis. Finally, conclusions and directions for future research on anticipation are formulated.

Classification trees included in SQL Server 2008R2 Analysis Services package have been used to classify Polish households based on their incomes. The analysis has been performed by means of the three algorithms and their effectiveness has been measured. Using the best algorithm a groups of households with the lowest and the largest incomes have been distinguished. The most important attributes describing households with the lowest and the largest incomes were identified and discussed.

This work concerns the evolving pattern of the lexical richness of the corpus text of China Government Work Report measured by entropy, based on a fundamental assumption that these texts are linguistically homogeneous. The corpus is interpreted and studied as a dynamic system, the components of which maintain spontaneous variations, adjustment, self-organizations, and adaptations to fit into the semantic, discourse, and sociolinguistic functions that the text is set to perform. Both the macroscopic structural trend and the microscopic fluctuations of the time series of the interested entropic process are meticulously investigated from the dynamic complexity theoretical perspective. Rigorous nonlinear regression analysis is provided throughout the study for empirical justifications to the theoretical postulations. An overall concave model with modulated fluctuations incorporated is proposed and statistically tested to represent the key quantitative findings. Possible extensions of the current study are discussed.

Opis:
Chromium is a heavy metal which has widely used in tannery and electroplating industries. Contaminations of these industrial metals into the river possess major threat to an environment. Therefore, biosorption is a technique which is applied for the sorption of heavy metal by a biomaterial. In the present study reveals that cherry leaves was used as a biomaterial and for that the thermodynamic properties was evaluated for the biosorption of chromium. From the thermodynamic studies it was found that the reaction was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic because the values of ΔG = negative, ΔS = negative and ΔH = positive. So, it was concluded that the experiment was thermodynamically feasible.

If the antecedents of a fuzzy classification method are derived from pictures or measured data, it might have too many dimensions to handle. A classification scheme based on such data has to apply a careful selection or processing of the measured results: either a sampling, re‐ sampling is necessary. or the usage of functions, transfor‐ mations that reduce the long, high dimensional observed data vector or matrix into a single point or to a low num‐ ber of points. Wavelet analysis can be useful in such cases in two ways. As the number of resulting points of the wavelet ana‐ lysis is approximately half at each filters, a consecutive application of wavelet transform can compress the me‐ asurement data, thus reducing the dimensionality of the signal, i.e., the antecedent. An SHDSL telecommunication line evaluation is used to demonstrate this type of appli‐ cability, wavelets help in this case to overcome the pro‐ blem of a one dimensional signal sampling. In the case of using statistical functions, like mean, variance, gradient, edge density, Shannon or Rényi en‐ tropies for the extraction of the information from a pic‐ ture or a measured data set, and they don not produce enough information for performing the classification well enough, one or two consecutive steps of wavelet analy‐ sis and applying the same functions for the thus resulting data can extend the number of antecedents, and can dis‐ till such parameters that were invisible for these functi‐ ons in the original data set. We give two examples, two fuzzy classification schemes to show the improvement caused by wavelet analysis: a measured surface of a com‐ bustion engine cylinder and a colonoscopy picture. In the case of the first example the wear degree is to be deter‐ mine, in the case of the second one, the roundish polyp content of the picture. In the first case the applied statisti‐ cal functions are Rényi entropy differences, the structural entropies, in the second case mean, standard deviation, Canny filtered edge density, gradients and the entropies. In all the examples stabilized KH rule interpolation was used to treat sparse rulebases.

Effect of Pb addition on magnetocaloric properties of Ni50 Mn18,75 Cu6,25-aPbaGa25 (a = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) alloys was investigated experimentally. The magnetic measurements conducted at low field of 4 kA/m showed that addition of Pb led to separation of the both transformation temperatures and significantly shifted the structural transition effect towards lower temperatures as well as increased the Curie temperature. The analysis of isothermal magnetic curves allowed for the calculation of magnetic entropychange (ΔSM). Although the peak values of |ΔSM| for alloys containing 4 and 5 at.% Pb, ~3 J/(kg*K) and ~1.5 J/(kg*K) respectively, are low they stretch over the structural transformation and Curie temperature, and are at least 30 K wide at half maximum height.

The present study investigated various thermodynamic parameters, microstructures and electrochemical behaviors of TiMoVCrZr and Ti-rich TiMoVCrZr high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared by vacuum arc remelting. The microstructures of the alloys were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and potentiodynamic polarization tests. The determined thermodynamic values of the Ω-parameter and the atomic size difference (δ) for the HEAs were determined to be in the range of Ω ≥ 1.1, and δ ≤ 6.6% with valance electron configuration (VEC) ≤ 5.0, suggesting the HEAs were effective at forming solid solutions. XRD patterns of the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed four phases consisting of the body centered cubic1 (BCC1 ), BCC2 , hexagonal close-packed (HCP), and intermetallic compound Cr2 Zr phases. Three phases were observed in the XRD patterns of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 (BCC, HCP, and Cr2 Zr) and a single BCC phase was observed in Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs. The backscattered-electron (BSE) images on the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed BCC and HCP phases with Cr2 Zr precipitates, suggesting precipitation from the HCP solid solution during the cooling. The micro-segregation of Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs appeared to decrease remarkably. The alloying elements in the HEAs were locally present and no phase changes occurred even after additional HIP treatment. The lowest current density obtained in the polarization potential test of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 HEA was 7.12×10-4 mA/cm2 was obtained. The studied TiMoVCrZr HEAs showed improved corrosion characteristics as compared to currently available joint replacement material such as ASTM F75 alloy.

A new NiTi-based multi-component Ni35 Ti35 Ta10 Co10 Cu10 (at.%) alloy was obtained by vacuum arc melting. The microstructure of the alloy has been studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, backscatter electron diffraction and X-ray diffraction techniques. The performed measurements showed presence of two cubic and one tetragonal phases. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed that all the observed phases contained all five principal elements.

Two ways of speed stabilization of the D.C. motor are considered. One way consists in the use of additional kinetic energy accumulated in a wheel with a large moment of inertia J. The other consists in the use of additional information supplied by a feedback loop with gain K. In both the cases the motor is under the influence of the same white Gaussion noise. These two ways of stabilization are compared under the assumption of the same value of the speed error in the steady state.

This paper presents a Kalman filter based method for diagnosing both parametric and catastrophic faults in analog circuits. Two major innovations are presented, i.e., the Kalman filter based technique, which can significantly improve the efficiency of diagnosing a fault through an iterative structure, and the Shannon entropy to mitigate the influence of component tolerance. Both these concepts help to achieve higher performance and lower testing cost while maintaining the circuit.s functionality. Our simulations demonstrate that using the Kalman filter based technique leads to good results of fault detection and fault location of analog circuits. Meanwhile, the parasitics, as a result of enhancing accessibility by adding test points, are reduced to minimum, that is, the data used for diagnosis is directly obtained from the system primary output pins in our method. The simulations also show that decision boundaries among faulty circuits have small variations over a wide range of noise-immunity requirements. In addition, experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to the test method based on the subband decomposition combined with coherence function, arisen recently.

Opis:
Azo dye is widely used in the textile industry since it is cost effective and simple to use. However, it becomes a continuous source of environmental pollution due to its carcinogenicity and toxicity. Various methods had been used to remove the azo dye in solution. One of the famous and frequently used is the Fenton process. The Fenton process is one of the advanced oxidation processes where iron catalysed hydrogen peroxide to generate hydroxyl radical. Treating azo dyes in solution requires a catalyst to enhance the process of degradation. Herein, high entropy alloys (HEAs) have been proposed as a catalytic material to enhance the performance of Fenton process for azo dye degradation. HEAs have been reported as a promising catalyst due to its high surface area. The higher the number of active sites, the higher the rate of azo dye degradation as more active sites are available for adsorption of azo dyes. The results have shown that HEAs can be used as a catalyst to fasten the Fenton reaction since the degradation time is proven to be shorter in the presence of HEAs. The method derived from the result of this study will contribute in treating azo dyes for wastewater management in the Fenton process.
