Comparative Analysis
Nigerian Electronic Media
Opis:
The study is set up to examine Hausa terms and concepts used over the Nigeria electronic media. Specifically the study analyses the use of Hausa in the eastern Hausa dialect area where we sample Plateau and Adamawa States in Nigeria. Through various instruments of research, the study comes up with various performances of the Hausa Broadcasters in terms of IOVs, IOAs, IOCs, and IOIs. The study identifies that there are various degrees of variations among Hausa Broadcasters in the use of terms and concepts in the electronic media in the non-Hausa dialect area. These variations are observed at different levels i.e. among Hausa Broadcasters in the same electronic media within the same dialect area and across electronic media. These variations occasion various degrees of performances among Hausa Broadcasters in terms of IOAs. The study further identifies various degrees of performances in terms of IOCs, which result in various degrees of performances in terms of IOIs. The performances of the Hausa Broadcasters result in confusions and breakdown of communication as reported by Hausa listeners. These variations and inconsistencies in the use of Hausa terms and concepts over the electronic media are tied up to various factors. The lack of a language monitoring body saddled with the responsibility of supervising Hausa language development in the media may be the cause of such discrepancies in the use of terms of concepts over the electronic media in the non-Hausa dialect area.

Opis:
To describe the world and to put some order into our contemporaneity, Emmanuelle Pireyre gathered in his novel titled Féérie générale (2012) numerous examples of situations that are symptomatic of the reality of the last years. Written in a way that highlights all the nuances of everyday life and interspersed either with the narrator’s opinions on modern society, or with dreams, extracts of electronic notices, anecdotes, or even with the presentation of a collection of kisses, the stories summarize the discontinuous and complex world. Denouncing the aberrations of society, the narrator confronts the clichés and the ideas people do not have time to think about, suggesting that we see in this world only the beautiful things, love and happiness, feelings considered futile by the thinkers and the creators. In this collection of magic things, Pireyre invites at the same time the readers to distance themselves from the disorder of the world and to live on a kind of islands of happiness.

Recommendations made by policy makers, increasing competitive pressure and growing popularity of digital media among participants of teaching processes contribute to their increasingly extensive use at Polish universities. The fact that the teaching processes has entered the new, digital dimension reveals the need for information concerning the relevance of use of electronic media, especially from the perspective of achieving learning outcomes. Given the above, the purpose of this paper is to present results of research on opinions of both students and academics on the need and significanceof the application of digital media in the learning processes. For the purposes of the article, a quantitative research was conducted among 86 students and 66 teachers from University of Economics in Katowice. The data was collected in April 2015 using an online surveying technique and analyzed using statistical description. In the light of our results, the application of electronic media seems to not only be imposed by macro- and micro-environmental conditions, but also to be expected by the main participants of educational processes taking place at university level. The results show that both groups of respondents consider the use of digital media at least as advisable for the achievement of learning outcomes (71.8% of responses covered labels: advisable, recommended or required). However, the level of necessity is slightly higher when digital tools are used by students (80.7%) than by teachers (70.3%). In general, multimedia presentations have been identifiedas the most required form of digital media application in teaching at the university.

Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę przedstawienia wpływu mediów elektronicznych na rozwój świadomości ekologicznej społeczeństwa. W dobie globalizacji zachodzącej w wielu dziedzinach życia społecznego, politycznego, gospodarczego i kulturalnego Internet odgrywa coraz większą rolę.
The article attempts to present the influence of electronic media on the development of the society's ecological awareness. At the times of globalisation, which is happening in many domains of the social, political, economic and cultural life, the Internet is becoming more and more important. The article contains description of the Internet 's influence on the ecological knowledge development and its contribution to the evolution of the market, among others to the electronic market's evolution. The results of the questionnaire, which was carried out in the Internet, are discussed in the experimental part, as well as the evaluation of the chosen Internet shops with organic food. The Internet is highly regarded as an information source. However, consumers treat information available in the Internet with different credibility, dependent on the age of the respondent. A practical application of electronic media-based ecological education is offered by the Internet organic food retail. It seems that in the age of progressive globalisation this form of trade will increase its importance in the future. The analysis of retail offer of selected Internet stores reveals that these ventures supply primarily preserved and processed food. It has been affirmed that fresh fruit and vegetables are the organic products most popular among the consumers, however, they constitute only a few percent of the total sales.

Opis:
This study examines media usage and the effect of viewing media violence on Nigerian children. Child violence has become massive in recent years. There is also the fear that it will be worse in the future. Many claimed that the rise of child violence emanates from the use of violent media. The objective of this study is therefore to examine the impact of electronic media use on some of the violent acts carried out by some Nigerian children. The study uses sociological and analytical methods. 70 questioners were printed and distributed to parents. 59 questioners came back but 2 were incomplete and were destroyed. 57 were used. The focus of the study is on children between the ages of 0-12. The study area is Sapele Delta State. The study finds that children between the ages of 0-6 love more of educational programs while children between the ages of 7 to 12 prefer films with violent content. Also, viewing violent films makes children develop aggressive and violent behaviour especially fighting and bully towards their friends. It is my recommendation that caregivers give closer attention to their children and reduce their engagement with violent media. This, no doubt, will help to reduce the rate of violent act among Nigerian children in the future.

Nowadays, more and more children own electronic devices and spend a significant amount of their free time using them during the day. Currently, the Internet offers great opportunities for children — it can be both a source of entertainment and information. Unfortunately, more and more often it can be noticed that children rarely go out to the yard or playground and spend most of their free time in front of a computer or TV screen instead. The scale of this phenomenon is increasing every year as electronic devices have become an integral part of everyone’s life, including children. The conducted research showed that parents spend an average of 2.5 hours a day with their children, during which they most often go for walks, play sports or play board games. It has also been shown that the vast majority of 2nd grade primary school students have their own electronic devices, most often a telephone. According to the research, children’s use of phone is unlimited by their parents, can take place at any time of the day, and it is mainly used for entertainment purposes.

Sleep is important to physical and mental development. Studies show that adolescents suffer from electronic media exposure-related inadequate and non-quality sleep. In Israel, traditional, conserva-tive Arab society is undergoing a modernization process with exposure to the Western lifestyle and Israeli Jewish culture. This comparative cross-sectional study compared electronic media exposure’s impact on sleep in secular Jewish and Arab society in Israel, involving 229 middle and high school adolescents, 118 Arabs and 111 Jews. Research tools were the School Sleep Habits Survey (SSHS) and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Jewish adolescents are more exposed to electronic media than are Arab adolescents only during mid-week. Weak but significantcorrelations were found between late night use of electronic media and sleep duration; increased exposure to television (r = -0.17, p = .01), mobile telephone r = -0.21, p = .002), and tablet (r = -0.14, p = .02) related to shorter sleep duration and longer sleep latency mid-week in both groups and later weekend wake-up time. Arab adolescents are sleepier during the day and have more sleep-related behavior problems. As electronic media exposure rises, sleep duration shortens, and sleep time is postponed in both cultures. Exposure to electronic media is higher among Jewish adolescents. Boys sleep longer than girls during the week (a difference of nearly an hour).

Radio is by far the most accessible medium. With its mobility and availability, it attracts listeners by its simplicity and friendliness. The present information situation is characterized by the convergence of computers, mobile devices, telecommunication and broadcasting technologies and the divergence of different ways of delivering and storing media. Consumers are overwhelmed by new electronic gadgets appearing every year. They are astonished by new technical innovations that are being designed to ease their life and change their habits. Even the broadcasting sector itself is facing significant changes, especially a growing competition between the private and public sector. This article reviews the current status of analog and digital broadcasting technologies. It analyzes a case study of user expectations related with today’s digital media, particularly radio transmission. We discuss the principal possibilities, limitations and user expectations related with digital audio broadcasting, as well as the economic, technological, regulatory and frequency management factors.

The relationship between music and media is closer than it is obvious at first sight. That includes primary media such as the singer or the theatre performance of an opera, print media such as sheet music and music books, electronic media like the record, the tape, radio, film and television, and the recent digital media such as the world wide web, the compact disc or the i-pod.If turned historically, we can realize a chain of media expressing and describing the history of music – from the ancient priestess and singers over the aoide and the rhapsode in old Greek culture presenting epic poetry and narrative literature up to church and choir singers in Christian churches, from mine singers, hymnbooks and troubadours in the Middle Ages up to ballad singers and street musicians selling music sheets and books in the 18th century, from music performance as live music up to recorded and canned music and finally a kind of quarry music allowing everyone a subjective and eclectic selection. The functional history of music follows inevitably the history of media.

The Internet environment offers more and more knowledge resources as well as more and more better portals and educational platforms, creating a variety of learning opportunities, vocational training and improvement. Network resources have now become an important space educational – and self-education – of young people. Research carried out by me in 2017 among students of the University of Wroclaw show that in the course of studying internet sources of knowledge (websites, educational portals) are used on a par with handbooks and other books recommended by lecturers. Some of the respondents attribute this to materials even higher value due to the more accessible language and frequent content update. This differentiates the results in relation to my findings from a few years ago whose respondents raised the issue of reliability and certainty of online knowledge. The network environment, off ering a kind of convergence of earlier media, is today is a serious competition for television, the press or a book in a paper issue. Places these relays, however, have not been fulfilled, as one might think, of their electronic substitutes: e-newspapers, e-books or audiobooks. The most important source of scientific knowledge as well all popular information and news from the country and from the world remained popular websites and Internet portals. Also organized forms of training in the form of courses, on-line workshops or trainings are poorly disseminated in the studied student population. Only a few people have implemented language courses or specialized trainings this way. After graduation, however, they declare to undertake further education or further training online. The position of the respondents with regard to the virtual mode studies is clearly skeptical. The respondents question the value of such education in terms of both substantive, as well as in terms of acquired qualifications and competences (in the dimension professional as well as social). Virtual universities are not answered by respondents mentioned reasons – perceived as a real threat to traditional institutions educational. On-line training, seen today as an important supplement to traditional roads education, it seems, in their opinion, very forward-looking.
Różnicuje to wyniki w stosunku do moich ustaleń sprzed kilku lat, w których respondenci podnosili kwestię rzetelności i pewności internetowej wiedzy.

Cyberbullying is one of numerous negative phenomena that young people can encounter in the virtual reality, and they make the group that is most threatened with it. Since it is an extremely important issue, NIK has started an audit at the Ministry of National Education (MEN), the Ministry of Digitalisation, five regional Police headquarters and ten local/municipal Police units, as well as in ten schools – these being the entities that play the key role in supporting parents who need to solve such problems. The objective of the audit is to assess whether the activities undertaken by the competent institutions in the area of counteracting and preventing of cyberbullying among children and youngsters are appropriate and effective.
