Opis:
The article attempts to explain the origin of some Polish names of non¬ basic colours. Lex-emes that serve as bases for forming the names of colours in Polish have been divided into four semantic categories. The most numerous one consists of the names of colours deriva-tive from the names of certain plants. Second most numerous group of lexemes is based on the names of minerals, metals, stones. The third one refers to the names of animals, birds, fish and reptiles. The last, and least numerous group consists of the names of colours that originate from the names of the staining substances. Among the names of the colours presented in the article some examples can be found that do not belong to any of the four groups. The name of the colour can also originate from grocery articles, atmospheric phe-nomena, drinks or proper nouns.

The city in Seven is full of dark and claustrophobic spaces, dominated by three colors: black, green and red. The significance of these colors is associated with sin: laziness (green), impurity (red) and pride (red, white). Desaturation of color and deep blacks throughout the film are the result of artistic treatments such as flyflashing and bleach-bypass. Color is complemented by light – sometimes minimal, other times quite blinding. The sound of thunder and rain complete the picture of the city as a place of moral decay, where two forces are fighting: light and darkness, purity and sin.

Although many studies have demonstrated an influence of uniform colors on sports performance, there are still more questions than answers regarding this issue. In our study, participants from Poland (N = 147) and China (N = 143) watched a two-minute video of a semi-professional boxing match. The participants viewed six different versions of the same fight - the original was modified to change the colors of the boxers’ trunks (red vs. blue, blue vs. red, blue vs. black, black vs. blue, red vs. black, and black vs. red). We experimentally confirmed that “black wins” and “red wins” effects exist, but in a way that caused an erroneous perception of the number of blows landed by boxers wearing red and black trunks fighting against boxers in blue trunks. We also showed that both effects are similarly strong even in Chinese culture, where the color red has different connotations from those in Western cultures. Additionally, our results suggest that context might play a very important role in the assessments of the boxers - color only influenced the perception of the weaker boxer. Finally, our findings suggest that the topic of the influence of colors on sports competitions has not been thoroughly investigated and further studies are necessary.

This article presents linguistic exponents of colors that Jan Lechoń used in poems of poetry volumes: Karmazynowy poemat (The Crimson Poem) and Srebrne i czarne (The Silver and The Black). The poet has used two types of colors exponents: lexical (adjectives, such as czarny = black, nouns, such as fi olet = violet, verbs, such as pobieleć = to whiten, adverb srebrzyście – silvery) and non-lexical (comparative expression jak mlekiem oblany = as bathed in milk and syntactic structure ogień żarzy = fi re glows). The lexical exponents of colors co-creation of various syntactic relationships in which their meaning is revealed. Most linguistic exponents of colors serve as descriptive in the analyzed poems, for example: białe chmurki = white clouds, żółty blask = yellow glow. Sometimes the exponents describe imaginary phenomenons, see mgła wspomnień błękitna = the blue haze of memories. Some exponents of colors are symbolic, cf. śpiewają bielą, amarantem = (they) sing white, amaranth (white and amaranth is the Polish national symbols). The metonymic meanings are also interesting, as in the phrase upił się miodnym złotem = (he) got drunk honey gold.

Given graphs G and H, a vertex coloring c : V (G) →ℕ is an H-free coloring of G if no color class contains a subgraph isomorphic to H. The H-free chromatic number of G, χ (H,G), is the minimum number of colors in an H-free coloring of G. The H-free chromatic sum of G, ∑(H,G), is the minimum value achieved by summing the vertex colors of each H-free coloring of G. We provide a general bound for ∑(H,G), discuss the computational complexity of finding this parameter for different choices of H, and prove an exact formulas for some graphs G. For every integer k and for every graph H, we construct families of graphs, Gk with the property that k more colors than χ (H,G) are required to realize ∑(H,G) for H-free colorings. More complexity results and constructions of graphs requiring extra colors are given for planar and outerplanar graphs.

Opis:
This article presents a new approach for the data compression and clustering of one-third octave spectrum by using "acoustical colours". Using in-situ measurements by the IGLOO – sensor nodes it can show that this approach allows a clustering of the colors for a quick look classification. This is helpful using wireless acoustical transmissions with restricted transfer volume in underwater sensor networks without jamming their own measurements.

Oliviero Toscani stał się rozpoznawalnym na całym świecie fotografem za sprawą współpracy z włoską marką odzieżową – United Colors of Benetton (UCoB), w której pełnił rolę dyrektora artystycznego. Reklamy realizowane przez fotografa wzbudzały liczne kontrowersje, a zarazem przyczyniły się do ogromnego sukcesu komercyjnego marki UCoB. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję reklamy jako platformy komunikacji społecznej wypracowaną przez Oliviera Toscaniego przy wsparciu Luciano Benettona, na podstawie reklam publikowanych w wielu krajach świata w latach 1989–1994.
Oliviero Toscani is a photographer recognized all over the world thanks to his cooperation with United Colours of Benetton (UCoB), where he worked as an art director. The commercials that have been created by the photographer, where found to be very controversial, although they helped UCoB to became a very strong brand. In the article, the concept of the advertisement as a platform of social communication was presented. It was created by Oliviero Toscani with Luciano Benetton’s support and it will be presented in commercial advertising created from 1989 until 1994.

The object of the analysis are achromatic color names in Scarlet sails of Alexander Grin. Color expressions are an inseperable part of the world description. The researched material provides valuable information about the models of perception, association and interpretation of the world presented in the novel. The field of black color is represented by adjectives, such as, черный, почерневший, the field of white is represented by lexemes белый, белизна, белокурый, белевший, серебряный, and field of grey – by lexemes серый, седой, полуседой, стальной, серея, поседевший. These are relatively richly represented fields. The studied material shows that the writer mostly uses the achromatic color names in a conventional way and uses them to create the presented world. All three colors are mainly connected with semantic fields related to man and nature. The objects related to human environment and work are characterized by achromatic colors relatively rarely.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja możliwości technologicznych oraz walorów wizualnych technik formowania szkła w kontekście projektowania oświetlenia będącymi źródłami nowatorskich oraz oryginalnych rozwiązań. Ponadto, publikacja porusza również problem niedoboru światła naturalnego w środowisku życia człowieka, uwarunkowanego położeniem geograficznym, ale również zawrotnym i wymagającym pędem życia w dużych miastach. Podsuwa rozwiązania tego problemu wskazując w tym celu nowatorskie rozwiązania opraw oświetleniowych o zmiennej temperaturze barwowej.
The main issue of these article is to present the technological possibilities and visual advantages of glass forming techniques in the context of lighting design being innovative sources and original solutions. In addition, the publication also move the problem of the lack of natural light in the living environment of a person conditioned by geographical location, but also the insane and demanding momentum of life in big cities. The article suggests the solutions for this problem by owing to use innovative solutions for lighting with variable color temperature.

In the face of the European integration, the legal protection of national symbols enjoys momentous significance. The present turbulent times and numerous conflicts, the etiology of which is – e.g. social or political in nature – require an attempt to make a scientific overview of the situation. In this article I will examine the scope of standardization of the protection of national colors in the Polish law, the Italian law and the Community legislation. The study takes into account the historical and contemporary judicial decisions. I will try to answer the question whether the scope of protection of the Community colors in the Polish law is sufficient? The analysis of the examined normative acts has led me to the conclusion that the Polish legislator, after the restoration of independent statehood, attached a great importance to the normative grounds ensuring protection of colors of the national symbols. The Italian constitutional adjustment, compared to the Polish one in the scope of the national colors, is very sparse. Aside from the Community rules, each member state – as a result of historical development – has developed its own model of protection. The colors of the European Union are not expressly protected under the Polish normative regulations. However, de lege ferenda, I reckon that for the interests of legal certainty, the legal status in this field should be amended and relevant norms should be laid down.
W obliczu integracji europejskiej, doniosłego znaczenia nabiera prawna ochrona symboli narodowych. Współczesne czasy nie są spokojne. Liczne konflikty, których etiologia ma charakter społeczny, polityczny, nakazują próbę dokonania scjentystycznego oglądu sytuacji. W niniejszym artykule zbadam zakres normowania ochrony barw narodowych w prawie polskim i włoskim oraz wspólnotowym. W badaniach uwzględnię historyczne i współczesne orzecznictwo sądowe. Spróbuję udzielić odpowiedzi na pytanie o to, czy na gruncie prawa polskiego zakres ochrony barw wspólnotowych jest wystarczający? Analiza zbadanych aktów normatywnych doprowadziła mnie do wniosku o tym, że polski prawodawca po odzyskaniu niepodległego bytu państwowego przywiązywał dużą wagę do normatywnych podstaw mających zapewnić ochronę barwom jako symbolom narodowym. Włoska regulacja konstytucyjna, w porównaniu do polskiej, w zakresie barw narodowych jest bardzo skąpa. Pomimo regulacji wspólnotowej, każde z państw członkowskich – na skutek rozwoju historycznego – wykształciło własny model tej ochrony. Barwy Unii Europejskiej nie są expressis verbis chronione na gruncie polskich regulacji normatywnych. Moim zdaniem, de lege ferenda, dla pewności obrotu prawnego, należałoby stan prawny w tym zakresie zmienić i stosowne normy subrogować.

Fabrics such as byssus and crimson wool can provide us with a surprisingly large amount of information about the circumstances of Biblical books origin. Analysis of lexis related to mentioned textiles, present in Exodus and in Chronicles, allows to notice a meaningful change, occurring in technical biblical terminology. In Exodus, byssus is represented by שֵׁשׁ and crimson – by תּוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי, whilst in Chronicles naming is changed respectively to בּוּץ and כַּרְמִיל. Analysis of etymology leads to the conclusion, that textiles mentioned in Torah belong to an early vocabulary, created in the times before the exile, in Chronicles, on the other hand, encountered terms belong to period of Babylonian captivity or after the exile. Confrontation of these textiles with the other, non-biblical sources, provides a confirmation of proposed dating and facilitates identification of mysterious biblical byssus, which turns out to be a very thin linen and not – as sometimes confused – sea silk. Juxtaposition of the Greek equivalents allows to draw a conclusion, that terminology of both Torah and Chronicles was known to the LXX translators, who – despite a clear caesura – translate terms consequently: שֵׁשׁ and בּוּץ to βύσσος/βύσσινος, and תּוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי and כַּרְמִיל to κόκκινος

The article proposes a rule for improving image sharpness and analyzes its implementation by means of the cellular automata formalism and neural networks. It has been proved, that the previously known contrasting algorithm, which uses a template and 3x3 pixels, can be improved considerably by repeatedly applying the iterative process over templates 2x2 with the rule "anti - blur" ( C 11 = C 11 x F - ( C 12 + C 21 + C 22) x S ) and gradient color correction at each step after the "anti - blur". Color is one of the artistic means, by which text can be perceived as an artistic whole. The aim of this paper is to analyze the names of colors used to describe human space in Way to nowhere by Alexander Grin. The color nominations refer to description of human external appearance and clothing. They are expressed by one-word names (красный, белый), names derived from them (покраснеть, почернеть) and compound words (черноволосый, черноусый). In order to define the human color space, the author used 137 lexemes, which belong to serval color fields: красный, белый, черный, серый, желтый, синий and зеленый. Undoubtedly, all of them express national and individual priorities.

The drama of Katyń. The theory of colors, Julia Holewińska based on Józef Czapski’s Old Bielsko Memories, although largely processed. The protagonist of the play is Józef Czapski, a painter-capist, writer, intellectual, prisoner of Starobielsk, Pawliszczew Boru, Griazowiec, who builds his paintings in the performance with colors. The setting for these events is Kozielsk, where the artist was not held, which proves that this is not Czapski’s biography, nor is it a documentary account of camp life. The playwright, on the basis of a harsh and humiliating reality, showed human sensitivity. In Holewińska’s drama, Czapski acts as a guide through the camp experience through the eyes of a colorist. In each sequence, the artist expresses his view of color in art. There are two more allegorical characters in the drama: Our Lady of Kazan, who embodies three beings: Our Lady of Kazan (The Blessed Virgin of Kazan) – as the sacred, the real pilot Janina Lewandowska, and femininity in general. The second allegorical figure is the great Katyń liar, who personifies the whole apparatus of repression and oppression of the NKVD. The background for the conversations between these characters is a two-person choir – one out of a thousand and the Second of thousand. Art of Katyń. The theory of colors is devoted to painful historical events, despite the fact that it is subject to various playwriting procedures, it is moving in its meaning.
