Opis:
The coatings of machine elements, including painters, fulfill many different functions. They are therefore a factor improving their functional features, eg: reducing friction, reducing the intensity of corrosion processes, which results in increased durability and reliability of machines and devices in which they occur. Coatings, especially painting, also fulfill decorative (aesthetic) functions, very important in the marketing aspect. The paper indicates the factors that create conditions that ensure that paint coatings fulfill the expected functions. One of the most important factor is the proper treatment of coated surfaces.
Powłoki elementów maszyn, w tym także malarskie, spełniają wiele różnorodnych funkcji. Są więc czynnikiem poprawiającym ich cechy funkcjonalne, np.: zmniejszenie tarcia, zmniejszenie intensywności procesów korozyjnych, czego efektem jest zwiększenie trwałości, a także niezawodności maszyn i urządzeń, w których strukturze występują. Powłoki, zwłaszcza malarskie, spełniają także funkcje dekoracyjne (estetyczne), bardzo ważne w aspekcie marketingowym. W opracowaniu wskazano czynniki, które stwarzają warunki zapewniające powłokom malarskim spełnianie oczekiwanych funkcji, z których jednym z ważniejszych jest właściwa obróbka powierzchni pokrywanych.

One of methods of regenerating parts of machines is flame thermal spraying, which can be used by ship engine room crew. This method does not require great skill of the operator and is not associated with expensive workstation equipment. Flame sprayed coatings are characterized bv porosity and the presence of oxide inclusions. The presence of pores affects negatively on the corrosion properties of coatings. There is a corrosive environment which may be passed thmugh the pores of the coating to the substrate. This phenomenon is especially dangerous in case of applying cathodic coatings (copper, copper alloys and nickel alloys). The substrate corrosion may then proceed below coating. In the paper researches results of corrosion properties of Ni-Al alloy and Ni-Al-Al2O3 composite coatings were presented. Coatings were obtained by flame spraying of "Casto-Dyn 8000" torch. The studies in 0.01 M H2SO4 and 3.5 NaCl (artificial sea water) environments were realized. Measurements were made following methods: polarization and impedance spectroscopy. Rated coatings are more resistant to the 3.5% NaCl environment than the 0.01 M H2SO4. Corrosion current density for alloy coatings in artificial seawater was 7 miA/cm2 and 232 miA/cm2 environment acidic. Impedance spectroscopy studies showed that the alloy coatings are characterized by more than four times greater resistance in sodium chloride solution than in sulphuric acid solution. Curves flattened in the Nyquist plots may indicate that the appearance of products of corrosion coatings in the pores of the samples during exposure to sea water substitute. The value of corrosion potential in an environment of 3.5% NaCl is about 200 mV lower than 0.01 MH2SO4. Composite coatings Ni-Al-Al2O3 were characterized by a lower corrosion current densities and increased resistance than Ni-Al coatings. This is connected with the operation of non-conducting barrier electrim particles of alumina.

This work aims at physico-mechanical properties of the Ti-containing chromium-free conversion coatings on zinc coated steel. The wear resistance of the whole conversion coating/zinc coating system depends on the deposition time of these coatings. As the duration of the deposition of conversion coatings containing titanium increases, the wear resistance of the samples decreases. The reason for this deterioration in wear resistance is likely worse adhesion of these coatings obtained at longer deposition times. The best adhesion to the zinc substrate posses coatings deposited for 20 s.

The anti-plane shear deformation problem of a half-space coated by a soft or a stiff thin layer is considered. The two-term asymptotic analysis is developed motivated by the scaling for the displacement and stress components obtained from the exact solution of a model problem for a shear harmonic load. It is shown that for a rather high contrast in stiffness of the layer and the half-space Winklertype behaviour appears for a relatively soft coating, while for a relatively stiff one, the equations of plate shear are valid. For low contrast, an alternative approximation is suggested based on the reduced continuity conditions and the fact that the applied load may be transmitted to the interface. In case of a stiff layer, a simpler problem for a homogeneous half-space with effective boundary condition is also formulated, modelling the effect of the coating, while for a relatively soft layer a uniformly valid approximate formula is introduced.

In this work, uniform thin chitosan coatings were spin coated onto copolyester substrate. The use of high concentration acetic acid (50 wt.%) as the chitosan solvent increased the protonation of chitosan amino groups, allowing for greater interactions between the solution and the surface of the substrate. Further, surface oxidation was used to incorporate additional functional groups in the copolyester surface, facilitating solution/substrate interactions. The interfacial interactions between the chitosan solution and copolyester substrate were evaluated by the contact angle measurements.

Badania otoczkowania wykonano z nasionami rzodkiewki odmiany Lucynka przy pomocy mieszaniny kaolinu, dolomitu, pyłu drzewnego i talku. Do otoczkowania zastosowano 10% roztwór dekstryny. Zmieniano zawartość pyłu drzewnego w mieszaninie do otoczkowania od 0-90% mas. Znaleziono dwa zakresy zawartości pyłu dające nasiona otoczkowane o dobrych parametrach jakościowych. Otoki ciężkie o zawartości pyłu drzewnego 0-20% i otoki lekkie o zawartości pyłu drzewnego 70-90%.
The studies of seeds’ coating were carried ort on the radish seeds, Lucynka cultivar, by using the mixture of kaolin, dolomite, wooden dust, talcum powder and 10% dextrin solution. The content of wooden dust in coating mixture ranged from 0 to 90% by weight. Two ranges of wooden dust content in the mixture were found which ensured the coated seeds of good qualitative parameters: heavy coats containing 0-20% wooden dust and light coats of wooden dust content within 70-90%.

Porous metals show not only extremely low density, but also excellent physical, mechanical and acoustic properties. In this study, Hastelloy powders prepared by gas atomization are used to manufacture 3D geometries of Hastelloy porous metal with above 90% porosity using electrostatic powder coating process. In order to control pore size and porosity, foam is sintered at 1200~1300°C and different powder coating amount. The pore properties are evaluated using SEM and Archimedes method. As powder coating amount and sintering temperature increased, porosity is decreased from 96.4 to 94.4%. And foam density is increased from 0.323 to 0.497 g/cm3 and pore size is decreased from 98 to 560 μm. When the sintering temperature is increased, foam thickness and strut thickness are decreased from 9.85 to 8.13 mm and from 366 to 292 μm.

This study investigates the selected properties of the thin Ti coating applied by activated evaporation EB PVD technique. This technique was used for the deposition of Ti thin coating onto inner surface of OKhN3 MFA steel tubes. Deposition process was carried out at temperature 200°C. Conventional type of coatings - monolayer Ti - was analyzed by standard techniques for surface status and quality assessment - coating thickness, chemical composition by EDX analysis, adhesion, hardness, roughness, and growth direction of columns at room temperature. Ti monolayer achieved roughness Ra equal from 0.42 μm to 0.47 μm. The resulting hardness was from 2 GPa to 8.5 GPa depending on the sample location inside the vacuum chamber. Placing of the coated surface also affected the direction of grain growth of Ti coating columns. The angles α of grain growth were found to be from 40° to 60°. Angle α increased two to three times more than the incidence angle β (from 12° to 28°) of evaporated Ti particles. Values of the adhesion measured along the Ti growth direction were mostly higher (up to 10%) or the same as those measured perpendicular to it.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań odporności na uderzenia wybranych powłok polimerowych naniesionych na powierzchnie stalowe. Wybrano trzy podłoża stalowe o różnej grubości, na które nakładane były powłoki epoksydowe, poliestrowe i polietylenowe. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały istotny wpływ rodzaju powłoki oraz jej grubości, a także grubości podłoża stalowego na odporność na uderzenia.
The article presents the results of the impact resistance of selected polymer coatings deposited on steel surfaces. Were selected three steel substrates of different thicknesses, which were applied epoxy, polyester and polyethylene. The study showed a significant effect of the type of coating and its thickness, and the thickness of the substrate steel on impact resistance.

The effect of mechanical treatment of beech wood surface on quality of surface finish. The paper deals with the quality of three surface finishes intended into interior. Three types of coating materials were tested (polyurethane, waterborne, wax). Each type of the surface finish was created on beech wood surface in three various coating thicknesses. The coating thicknesses differed in number of coatings of the coating material. The surface finishes were evaluated according to the impact resistance and the resistance to abrasion. The polyurethane surface finish showed the lowest resistance to abrasion. If the film thickness was increasing, the resistance to abrasion was decreasing. The greatest differences in the resistance to abrasion, depending on the wood surface treatment, were found on the wax surface finish. In general, the waterborne surface finish showed the best resistance to abrasion. Pressing the wood surface before finishing increased the impact resistance of all three surface finishes. The damage of the surfaces was only of grade 2 (No cracks on the surface and the intrusion was only slightly visible). The lowest impact resistance of the surface finishes was found on grinded wood surface; the damage was graded as 4 (Visible large cracks at the intrusion). At the drop height of 400 mm, the effect of the film thickness on the impact resistance was no longer present on all differently mechanically treated surfaces.
Wpływ obróbki mechanicznej na jakość wykończenia powierzchni drewna bukowego. Artykuł dotyczy oceny jakości trzech wykończeń powierzchni przeznaczonych do użytku wnętrznego. Zbadano trzy rodzaje powłok wytworzonych na drewniw bukowym na bazie: lakieru poliuretanowego, lakieru wodnego i wosku. W każdym z przypadków wytworzono powłoki w trzech różnych grubościach (zróżnicowanych liczbą krotności naniesienia materiału powłokowego). Jakość powierzchni oceniano w oparciu o pomiar odporności na uderzenia i odporności na ścieranie. Powłoki wytworzone na bazie lakieru poliuretanowego charakteryzowały się najniższą odpornością na ścieranie. Wzrost grubości powłoki wpływał na spadek odporności na ścieranie. Największe różnice w odporności na ścieranie, w zależności od obróbki powierzchni drewna, stwierdzono dla powłok wytworzonych na bazie wosku. Ogólnie stwierdzono, że powierzchnie wykończone powłokami na bazie lakierów wodnych charakteryzowały się najlepszą odpornością na ścieranie. Zagęszczenie powierzchni drewna przed wykończeniem zwiększyło odporność na uderzenia dla wszystkich rodzajów wykończeń powierzchni. Odnotowano jedynie 2 stopień uszkodzenia powierzchni (brak pęknięć na powierzchni i ślad po kuli tylko nieznacznie widoczny). Najniższą odporność na uderzenia odnotowano dla próbek drewna o szlifowanej powierzchni; odnotowano 4 stopień uszkodzenia (widoczne duże pęknięcia przy wgłębieniu). Dla wysokości rzutu 400 mm, bez wzgledu na sposób obróbki powierzchni drewna, nie odnotowano wpływu grubości powłok na udarność.

A recently developed successful approach to achieve the balance of properties involves the copolymerization of film forming monomers like acrylates and methacrylates. The copolymerization of acrylate based monomer having different alkyl group offers the opportunity to study the effect of the alkyl substituents on the polymer properties. The article evaluates durability of punches and cutting tools when cutting of the cut-outs. Durability of punches made of the same material without coating, with the TiCN-MP coating and with the TiN coating is compared. Durability is evaluated by the tolerance of the cut-outs. Border durability, which requires grinding of the tool, is a determined durability, at which the deviation of the tolerance of a cut-out is at the lowest border. By comparing the dependency of change of the holes’ dimensions on the number of strokes in the case of all three types of punches, it can be stated that the durability increased by 10–12 times in the case of the tools with coatings.

In this paper the procedures of paint coating testing were presented. It has been assumed that they are one of the important factors which the functionality (reliability, durability and efficiency) of the machine depending. The most important factors that determine the quality of these coatings were indicated. The results of exemplary tests of paint coatings produced as a result of covering an element with powder paint are also presented. The adhesion of the coatings to the steel substrate as well as the impact resistance of the coating were tested. It has been stated that the results of such tests may also be used to assess the correctness of the applied coatings
W artykule przedstawiono procedury badań powłok malarskich. Przyjęto, że są one jednym z istotnych czynników od których zależy funkcjonalność (niezawodność, trwałość i efektywność) maszyny. Wskazano najistotniejsze czynniki, które determinują jakość tych powłok. Przedstawiono także rezultaty przykładowych badań powłok malarskich powstałych w wyniku pokrycia elementu farbą proszkową. Badano przyczepność powłok do podłoża stalowego, a także odporność powłoki na uderzenia. Stwierdzono, że wyniki badań w takim zakresie mogą posłużyć także do oceny poprawności realizowanych procesów nanoszenia powłok.

This article presents measurements of the thickness of alcohol-based coatings on sand foundry cores and moulds. These coatings were applied using two methods, the dipping method and the painting method. For the purposes of the study, a zircon alcohol-based coating was prepared with three different levels of nominal viscosity; very thin at 10s, average at 20s, and thick at 30s. The coating was applied to a core made of quartz sand and furan resin. The cores were made of sand with three different grain sizes; dL = 0.22 mm – fine sand, dL = 0.33 mm medium sand, and dL = 0.47 mm coarse sand. In the study, the thickness of the coating obtained to the core was measured immediately after application as well as after drying. Additionally, the extent of penetration into the intergranular spaces of the core matrix was measured. On the basis of this study, the impact of the grain size of the core matrix on the thickness of the coating and its penetration into the core was assessed. The thickness of coatings obtained using different application methods was also assessed.

The results of research on preparations of alloy Ni-B/B composite coatings produced by chemical reduction method on a carbon steel substrate are collected in this paper. The alloy Ni-B coatings were also investigated for comparative purposes. The produced coatings were subjected to a heat treatment process. The boron powder with the particles size below 1 μm was used as the dispersion phase. The structure of the coatings was examined by X-ray diffraction method. Boron powder particles as well as surface morphology and topography were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The roughness test, microhardness and corrosion resistance by potentiodynamic method and surface wettability tests were carried out. Analysis of the chemical composi-tion by the EDS method showed that the boron powder particles were evenly embedded in the entire volume of the coating. Ni-B/Bcomposite coatings are characterized by higher hardness than alloy Ni-B coatings. As a result of heat treatment, the Ni3 B phase crystallized, which increased the hardness of the coating material. The incorporation of boron powder particles and heat treatment reduce the corrosion resistance of coatings. All produced coatings exhibited hydrophobic properties.

In this study, wear properties of FeW-B4C coatings produced by tungsten inert gas (TIG) process on the AISI 1060 steel were investigated. TIG process was selected because it is a cost-effective approach for melting-based coatings. The treated surfaces were evaluated and characterized by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis, and electron dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The microhardness and wear experiment were also performed by using a microhardness machine and ball-on-disk tribometer. SEM observations showed that the obtained coating had a smooth and uniform surface. According to XRD analysis, borides and carbides phases formed in the coatings. The wear behavior of the coatings was compared with ball-on-disc configuration wear tests, at the same conditions. Average coefficient of friction values of the coatings were obtained at relatively low levels.

The investigations presented in this paper describe surface treatment performed on samples of heat-treated cast magnesium and aluminium alloy. The structure and chemical composition as well as the functional and mechanical properties of the obtained gradient/monolithic films were analysed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, die ball-on-disk tribotester and scratch testing. Moreover, investigation of the electrochemical corrosion behaviour of the samples was carried out by means of potentiodynamic polarisation curves in 1-M NaCl solution. The coatings produced by chemical vapour deposition did not reveal any delamination or defects and they adhere closely to the substrate. The coating thickness was in a range of up to 2.5 microns. Investigations using Raman spectra of the DLC films confirmed a multiphase character of the diamond-like carbon layer, revealing the sp and sp3 electron hybridisation responsible for both the hardness and the friction coefficient. The best wear resistance test results were obtained for the magnesium alloy substrate - AZ61, for which the measured value of the friction path length was equal to 630 m.

In this study, energetic behaviors of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-coated zirconium (Zr) powders were investigated using thermogravimetric analyzer-differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC). PVDF-coated Zr powder had 1.5 times higher heat flow than ZrO2-passivated Zr powder. PVDF-coated Zr powder had a Zr-F compound formed on its surface by its strong chemical bond. This compound acted as an oxidation-protecting layer, providing an efficient combustion path to inner pure Zr particle while thermal oxidation was progressing at the same time. PVDF coating layers also made thermal reaction start at a lower temperature than ZrO2-passivated Zr powder. It was obtained that the surface PVDF coating layer evaporated at approximately 673 K, but the surface oxide layer fully reacted at approximately 923 K by DSC analysis. Hence, Zr powders showed enhanced energetic properties by the PVDF-coated process.

Silny prąd elektryczny, któremu towarzyszy elektroliza wody, wywołuje zmianę odczynu pH przy powierzchni metalu i koagulację jonowo-polimerowej substancji błonotwórczej. W artykule opisano zachodzące procesy chemiczne i fizyczne oraz wpływ na nie stosowanej wody i innych składników.
Electrodeposition coatings are – since 5 decades – the basis for good corrosion protection of industrial goods, especially known worldwide for the production of passenger cars. In contrast to the application of most other paints the workpiece is dipped into a colloidal solution of the waterborne paint. A strong electric current, followed by water electrolysis, causes a pH-shift at the metal surface, coagulating the underlying ionic-polymeric binder. The article describes the chemical and physical processes and influences of the used water and other components.

In this paper one discusses the problem of modeling of thermal barrier coatings in an unified way. This approach takes into account both mechanics of materials responsible for behavior of the thermal barrier coatings and its production relying on preparation of material for deposition and the deposition itself. Two pillars of the unified description are considered. The first one is the notion of index of structure. The second one is created by criteria of design of properties of the thermal barrier coatings. It is suggested to apply the multiscale method of modeling for the behavior of material in deposited layer called collection of dynamical systems with dimensional reduction. This multiscale approach is viewed as appropriate theoretical environment for expression of design criteria of the layer. We mean by this the criteria related to mechanical resistance against damage and criteria for thermal properties. It is accentuated that the two-scale segment of multicale modeling composed of molecular dynamics and nanoscale modeling is of primary importance for the design tasks. Possibility of consideration of both mentioned methods of modeling follows from properties of the collection of dynamical system approach which allow us to treat molecular dynamics and continuum mechanics models within one theoretical scheme. Premises for design of production of thermal barrier coatings process are placed in the design of layer properties which could be next transformed into design of indexes of structure corresponding to various stages of the deposition.

The novel fuel additive LiBH4 was introduced as an energetic component for its outstanding hydrogen content, perfect burning performance and high reactivity. In order to limit the hygroscopicity and to improve the stability in the air, LiBH4 was coated on the surface with wax and polyester carbonate. The final product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron energy spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy, while the stability in air was investigated by regular checking of variations in weight. The results show that a uniform coating layer was formed on the surface of the LiBH4, and the coverage was estimated from the boron content as approximately 82%. A healing effect was confirmed on defective surfaces exposed to air; the coating layer improves the relative stability by 50.7%. Furthermore, LiBH4 as an additive to promote the thermal decomposition of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-trazinane (RDX) and ammonium perchlorate (AP) was explored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), in which the catalytic effects of pure LiBH4 and coated LiBH4 were compared, and indicated that the coating does not decrease the reactivity of LiBH4. It is suggested that surface coating with some inert materials is a simple and effective method for improving the storage and performance of LiBH4, while ensuring its reactivity.

The article presents the results of impact composite coatings on the thermoplastic matrix with varying amounts of aramid fabrics. To prepare composite coatings applied thermoplastic copolymer of SBS (styrenebutadiene- styrene) with a linear chain, trade name Kraton. To reinforcement selected aramid fabric (Twaron 1210 fiber), a plain weave and a weight of 175 g / m2. As the base polymer coatings used steel sheet with a thickness of 1.0 mm marked with DC01 according to EN 10027-1: 2007. It is a quality steel alloy designed for cold-rolled products. Steel substrate were washed in a solution of water and detergent, and then degreased with acetone. First step was compressed at 180 ° C for 3 minutes without load, and then three minutes with a load of 2 MPa. SBS copolymer film having a thickness of 800 μm. The films again were compressed with fabrics on steel substrate, using the same compression parameters as in the case of a single film. Obtained four reinforced with fabric layers differing in number of layers of fabric and two SBS copolymer coating with different thickness. Impact resistance test consisted of placing the sample of 100 x 100 mm in the base device, and then leaving from the height of 1 meter, a weight of 2 kg terminated spherical indenter having a diameter of 20 mm. All samples from a single impact energy of 19.62 J were subjected to microscopic analysis. The first step was to determine the number of impact, after which the steel substrate coating has been without a break. Then carried out research on coatings by measuring the amount of impact, which was interrupted after the structure of the coating and the steel substrate. As a result of the study, there was no linear relationship between the thickness of coatings and their impact resistance. A significant influence on the resulting damage after an impact is the amount of fabric coating.

The paper presents the results of operational tests of thermal sprayed zinc coatings of various thicknesses on non-alloy steel substrates. The resistance of coatings to: variable temperature cycles, increased ambient humidity, salt fog as well as the electrical resistance of the coating and its adhesion to the steel substrate were tested. It has been shown that Zn coatings has a high corrosion resistance in various atmospheric conditions and have satisfactory properties so they can be protective layers of machine parts used in the armaments industry.

W pracy przedstawiono zamknięty cykl technologiczny wytwarzania powłok kompozytowych, niklowofosforowych ze zdyspergowaną fazą umacniającą. Mikroziarna dyspersji wbudowywane są kolejno warstwami. Zużyte w procesie autokatalizy roztwory są wykorzystywane do nakładania powłok niklowo-fosforowych lub kompozytu metodą elektrolityczną. Oprócz ciągłego wykorzystania produktów użytych w technologii wytwarzania powłok kompozytowych, regulowana jest ilość mikroziaren wbudowywanych w mikrowarstwę i mikrowarstw w powłoce. Przygotowanie powierzchni stopów żelaza polega na elektrolitycznym osadzaniu powłok cynkowych na etapie kształtowania elementu - podczas obróbki skrawaniem. Metoda ta nie wymaga standardowego przygotowania powierzchni, ponieważ w procesie skrawania zdejmowana warstwa wierzchnia odkrywa czyste, wolne od tlenków i wszelkich zanieczyszczeń podłoże, idealne do wydzielenia na nim warstwy metalicznej. Osadzony cynk jest usuwany z podłoży przed operacją podstawową i odzyskiwany metodą elektrochemiczną, a przy produkcji seryjnej roztwory są wykorzystywane w hydro-metalurgii cynku. Omówione procedury pozwoliły utworzyć zamknięty cykl technologiczny wytwarzania cienkowarstwowych powłok kompozytowych przyjazny dla środowiska naturalnego.
In this work a closed technological cycle of producing composite covers was described. The covers are nickel- phosphoric with the dispersed strengthening phase. The particles strengthening the warp are built with microlayers. Solutions consumed in the process of the automatic catalysis are used for putting nickel- phosphoric or composite coatings with an electrolytic method. Being connected with weak power of adhesion, microsphere and boron nitride in the process of fixing them on a steel base in the next operation are divided and again led into the technological circulation. Apart from constant using the products which are used in the technology of producing composite covers, the amount of particles built in the microlayer and the amount of microaspects of the coating are being regulated. Preparing the surface of alloys of iron consists of planting zinc-plated covers at the stage of shaping the element - during the machining. Zinc that was left is removed from the ground before the basic operation and regained with an electrochemical method and at the serial production solutions are used in the zinc hydrometallurgy. Discussed procedures allowed to create the closed technological cycle of producing thin-layered composite covers for the natural environment.

The literature does not provide a systematic analysis of the effect of electrostatic powder coating repainting of structural and constructional aluminum elements on their technological parameters. It is industrial practice that worn or damaged coatings be repainted. It is crucial to determine the effect of electrostatic sprayed coatings repainting on their microstructure, roughness and mechanical properties. The aim of the work is to determinate the influence of repainting of powder deposited polyester coatings on their mechanical properties, roughness and microstructure. This study examined three different electrostatic spray epoxy coatings with matt, silk gloss and fine structure-matt finish. Test panels were prepared as single- and double-layer paint coatings on the aluminum alloy 6060 substrate. Hence, six test sets of coatings were deposited. Each set contained six samples. The microstructure of the cross section of coating was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light optical microscopy (metallographic and stereoscopy microscope). The chemical composition of coating was analyzed by the SEM-EDS method. The 2D surface roughness of single- and double-layer coatings and 3D surface topography maps were examined using a profile measurement gauge. The mechanical properties of coatings were measured by cupping, bending, impact, adhesion to substrate tests run according to standard procedures. As a result, the influence of repainting of polyester powder coatings on their properties was determined. The results demonstrate that repainting has no effect on the microstructure and coating adhesion to substrate as well as the bending test results and roughness of matt and silk gloss coatings. It has been found that repainting affects the results of impact and cupping tests as well as the roughness of samples with fine structure surface finish.

In the work the problem of the destructive impact of hand washing car on a lacquer coating, in the case of non-compliance of the principles of washing, was undertaken. This problem was investigated on sample of car body sheet with lacquer coating polluted by dust and road dirt. Two instruments of world-known producers were used for the measurements. The distributions of lacquer coating thickness were obtained on the reference sample (uncontaminated) as well as after several cycles of hand washing without water rinse of the dust and road dirt. A visual assessment was performed. It was found measurable loss of lacquer coating on sample taken after the operations of manual washing without the initial removal of loose layer of road dirt.
W pracy podjęto problem destrukcyjnego oddziaływania ręcznego mycia samochodu na warstwę lakieru w przypadku niezachowania zasad mycia. Problem ten badano na próbce blachy karoseryjnej z powłoką lakierniczą, zanieczyszczaną kurzem i brudem drogowym. Do pomiarów użyto dwóch przyrządów pomiarowych znanych producentów światowych. Uzyskano nimi rozkłady grubości powłok lakieru na próbce referencyjnej (nie zabrudzonej) oraz po kilku cyklach myć ręcznych bez spłukania wodą kurzu i brudu drogowego. Prowadzono ocenę wzrokową. Stwierdzono mierzalny ubytek warstwy lakieru na próbce po wykonanych operacjach mycia ręcznego bez wstępnego usunięcia luźnej warstwy brudu drogowego.

W pracy przedstawiono właściwości tribologiczne warstw Al2O3 modyfikowanych grafitem. Ceramiczno-grafitowe warstwy powierzchniowe zostały wytworzone na stopie aluminium EN-AW-5251 technologią "duplex" oraz technologią bezpośrednią. Kompozytowe warstwy powierzchniowe poddano skojarzeniu z tworzywami: PEEK, PEEK/BG oraz T5W, wykorzystywanymi do produkcji uszczelnień urządzeń tłokowych. Testy tribologiczne przeprowadzono na testerze T-17 dla ruchu posuwisto-zwrotnego w warunkach tarcia technicznie suchego. W pracy przedstawiono również rezultaty badań stereometrycznych ceramiczno-grafitowych warstw, przed i po teście tribologicznym. Analiza wyników badań tribologicznych została uzupełniona o badania morfologii powierzchni warstw użytych w skojarzeniu ślizgowym.
The paper presents the tribological properties of Al2O3 coatings modified using graphite in a sliding contact with polymer composites. Ceramic-graphite upper surface layers formed on the aluminium alloy EN-AW-5251 using the duplex technology as well as a direct technology were subjected to a contact with the following materials: PEEK, PEEK/BG and T5W, on a T-17 tester under technically dry friction conditions. The tests were carried out at a constant unit pressure of 0.5 MPa and at a constant average sliding speed of 0.2 m/s for all the investigated couples. The tests were carried out along a 6 km distance in four stages, after which the polymer wear was measured. The analysis of the tribological test results has shown a significant reduction of the friction forces and material wear being the result of a modification of the oxide coatings. It has been also found that a modification of polymers with graphite and carbon has a positive impact on their tribological properties, which conditions their application in unlubricated kinematic couples.

The flame sprayed coatings are characterized by porosity, oxide inclusions presence and large real area of surface. In order to obtain adequate surface roughness coatings must be applied finishing. For this purpose, the turning and grinding are used. In the paper a burnishing to finishing flame sprayed coatings was proposed. Burnishing is not used during the processing of thermally sprayed coatings, as is commonly believed that this technology causes damage to coatings. The process of flame sprayed is a technology affordable and easy to implement. It does not require great skill of the operator. This method is not associated with expensive workstation equipment. It may therefore be used with success for the regeneration of machine parts by the crew of vessel engine room. Coatings of Ni-5% Al and Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 obtained by powder flame spraying were studied. Torch of "Casto-Dyn 8000" was used. After turning the average value of surface coatings roughness coefficient Ra =2.59 mi m (for Ni- 5%Al) mi m and Ra = 3.1mi m (for composite coating) was obtained. SRMD burnishing tool produced by "Yamato" company was used. Roller burnishing was performer on turning lathe. It was found that the increase in burnishing force and the reduction of burnishing speed and feed rate of less roughness of coatings are obtained. For Ni-5%Al coatings the lowest surface roughness, Ra = 0.3mi m was obtained after burnishing with the following parameters: the force - 1100 N, burnishing speed - 28m/min, feed - 0.08 mm/rev. During burnishing of Ni-5% Al-15% Al2O3 coatings applied force 700 N, Ra = 1.31 mi m was obtained. Greater burnishing force caused coatings damage. Burnishing compared to turning has positive influence on the curve shape of the material ratio. It was found that the parameters Rk and Rpk were reduced.

Corrosion which seriously affects the quality and functionality of steel can be reduced by hot dip aluminizing which involves dipping substrate to a molten aluminum bath. Thus, this study aimed to produce hot dip aluminized coating for steel using discarded soda cans. A total of 80 steel nails with length of 65.62±0.56 mm were used wherein 40 nails were intended for the hot dip aluminizing process at 650-700 °C with an average coating mass and thickness of 547 g/m2 and 170 μm, respectively, with density of 2.627 g/cm3 following ASTM standards. Compared to the non-coated setups, the fabricated aluminum coating reduced 0.178g and 0.092g of corrosion products accumulation after immersions on H2O2 and NaCl solutions for 7 days and 4 weeks, respectively. Optical analysis of surface and cross sections of the coated samples showed less pitting, and corrosion products. Aluminum coating tends to pit that starts from small cracks and fractures when immersed in corrosive medium. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy showed that the coated nail sample experienced minimal corrosion in the form of thin cracks compared to non-coated nails which had relatively rough surface as result of heavy corrosion. In addition, t-test showed significant difference between the accumulated corrosion products’ weights of coated and non-coated setups after immersing in NaCl (t = -13.801; p = 0.000) and H2O2 (t = -31.005; p = 0.000) wherein less corrosion product was obtained by the coated set-up (x̅ = 0.036 (H2O2) and x̅ = 0.028 (NaCl)). Thus, the results proved that the produced aluminized coating from waste soda cans provides a significant corrosion protection on the steel substrates.

Coatings of Ni-5%Al and Ni-5% Al-15% Al2O3 obtained by powder flame spraying, were studied. Torch of "Casto-Dyn 8000" was used. In practice, the substrate and the t herma l ly sprayed coating are processed by the same cutting tool. For example, Messner Eutectic Castolin company offers r\vo types of tools: "Rototool II/" (square insert) and "Rototool III" with a removable cylindrical insert. Average surface roughness of coating after machined tool "Rototool II" was Ra = 3 mi m. This surface often requires grinding. The different tool geometry was suggestedfor better texture of coatings surface. Workpiece was machined by tool with CBN insert WNGA080408S01030A mounted in holder DWLNRL-2525M08 (cutting inserts beta = 80°, approach angle Kr = 95°, nose radius - 0.8 mm, relief angle alfa = 6°, rake angle gamma= -6°). The influence of cutting speed, feed rate, depth of turning on the coating surface roughness was estimated. The following cutting parameters: cutting speed Vc = 45-214 m/m in, feed rate f = 0.06-0.2 mm/rev, depth of cut ap = 0.05-0.3 mm. The lowest value of the roughness of the alloy (Ra = 0.5 mi m) and composite (Ra = 0.8 mi m) coatings were obtained by using cutting parameters: Vc = 214 m/min, f= 0.06 mm/rev, ap = 0.4 mm.

In the paper an assessment of the impact of the thermal spray methods, porosity and the volume fraction of reinforcing phase (aluminium oxide) on the corrosion properties (corrosion current density and corrosion potential) of Ni-5%Al alloy coatings and Ni-5%Al-Al2O3 composite coatings reinforced by particle dispersion was presented. The volume fraction of reinforcing phase in the coatings was 15, 30 and 45%. These materials would potentially be used in the shipbuilding industry as regenerative coatings for repair of marine pump shafts. The samples (substrates) were made of carbon C45 (0.45%C) steel. For thermal spray of coatings, two oxy-acetylene (Casto-Dyn DS 8000 and Roto-Tec 80) torches and one plasma gun (PN120) were deployed. The two distances 100 mm and 150 mm from the nozzle onto the substrate were used. In addition, the two substrate temperatures 150°C or 250°C were applied. Corrosion properties of the coatings were tested in a replacement seawater (3.5% NaCl) by polarization curves method. It has been found that among the independent variables considered: a method of thermal spraying, fraction of reinforcing phase and porosity, the last mentioned has the greatest influence on the corrosion properties of thermally sprayed coatings on the matrix of Ni-5% Al. The value of the corrosion potential of coatings depended on the used thermal spray method. It has been found that the more modern method of producing coatings of the higher velocity of the coating material in a sprayed stream has a significant positive effect on the porosity of the coatings. The presence of the reinforcing phase (Al2O3) in composite coatings contributes to a reduction of value of the corrosion current density and increase of the corrosion potential value.

The objective of the research in this work was the modification of structure of carbide-type chromized layers, by the combination of diffusion chromizing with subsequent PVD treatment, consisting of chromium nitride deposition, carried out to improve their tribological properties. As a result, hybrid layers on the surface of tool steel were obtained. For comparison, the properties of single chromized carbide layers obtained in a diffusion chromizing process were tested. Investigations of layer microstructure, their mechanical properties, surface topography, adhesion of layers to the steel substrate, as well as tribological properties were conducted. The layer microstructure was characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Topography of the layer surface was studied by an optical profilometer. The scratch test for investigations of layers adhesion to the steel substrate was used. Testing of tribological properties (linear wear) of the layers was performed by the three-cylinder-cone method. It was shown, that hybrid layers are characterized by a significantly smaller surface roughness than that of chromized carbide layers and their wear resistance improved almost twice with respect to carbide layers.

Electrochemical Cr coatings doped with diamond nanoparticles were deposited on sintered steels with different carbon contents (0.2-0.8 wt.-%). The mechanical properties of surfaces as hardness and wear resistance increase as compared to the steel substrate. Microcutting and microgridding mechanisms were observed after tribological tests, but also adhesive wear in some areas was observed. X-ray examination indicated that the layer was textured, with the exception of the sample with the highest concentration of diamond nanoparticles in the electrolyte (42 g/l). The intensity ratio ICr110/ICr200 was calculated and compared with the indices for a standard sample. The greatest differences in the intensity ratio occurred for the samples with low carbon content (0.2% C). On the other hand, more the material is textured the greater the difference.

Micro-arc oxidation was applied to AZ91D magnesium alloy by taking K2Cr2O7  as the colouring salt in the silicate system. It was shown that the green coating obtained through performing micro-arc oxidation on magnesium alloy consisted of Mg, Mg2SiO4 , MgO, and Mg2SiO4  based on analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Among which, Mg2SiO4 was the colouring salt; there were something in the lamellar, pit, and convex forms found on the surface of the coating. The coating consisted of a porous, and a compact, layer from the outside to the inside. As demonstrated, the colour of the coating depended on the K2Cr2O7 concentration: it became gradually deeper with the addition of K2Cr2O7 and the increasing micro-arc oxidation time. The corrosion resistance and hardness of the green coating were greater than that of the matrix.

Właściwości klejów samoprzylepnych w postaci dwustronnych, jednostronnych oraz transferowych materiałów samoprzylepnych, takich jak typowe taśmy montażowe, etykiety samoprzylepne, folie reklamowe czy też samoprzylepne materiały medyczne, zależą między innymi od gramatury zastosowanego kleju. Kleje samoprzylepne nanosi się w laboratorium na folię poliestrową bądź silikonowany papier dehezyjny przeważnie za pomocą ręcznych aplikatorów w postaci ramek, umożliwiających tylko nanos kleju o czterech różnych gramaturach. Powlekanie kleju o dowolnej gramaturze jest tym samym niemożliwe. Nowo skonstruowana półautomatyczna powlekarka umożliwia powlekanie klejów samoprzylepnych, farb oraz lakierów o dowolnej gramaturze w zakresie od 3 g/m2 do 3000 g/m2, co odpowiada grubości warstwy polimerowej od 0,003 mm do 3 mm.
Properties of pressure-sensitive adhesives in form of one-sided, double-sided or carrier-free self-adhesive materials, like typical mounting tapes, self-adhesive labels, decoration films or self-adhesive medical products are among other things dependent on adhesive coating weight. Pressure-sensitive adhesives are coated on polyester film or dehesive silicon paper using hand equipments in form of hand-coaters which make possible only four diverse coatings weights. With this kind of equipment is not possible coating of adhesive with selected each coating weight. The new constructed half-automatic coating machine allows the coating of pressure-sensitive adhesives, paints or lacquers in the range coating weights between 3 g/m2 and 3000 g/m2 what corresponds to layers with thickness between 0.003 mm to 3 mm.

I have attempted to meet request on lightweight functional materials with low friction coefficient and high wear resistance reported by various areas of industry. For this purpose I attempted to combine good tribological properties of MoS2 (Ti,W) coatings base and modified and refined silumin. In addition, under MoS2 (Ti,W) coating the Cr interlayer was deposited having the task to increase the adhesion of the coating to the substrate. In such a composite tribological tests were the major studies. Additionally, for the characterization of deposited coatings the following studies were conducted: qualitative analysis of the phase composition of X-ray diffraction (XRD), linear analysis of the distribution of selected elements (EDS), nano-hardness and Young modulus were measured.

We present a synthesis of the mathematical model of a joint of a new generation multi-link surgical micromanipulator. A design of such a device involves finding solutions for several difficult problems which do not appear in classical 'large' robots.Aprototype in development has six links, and it is driven by brushless servomotors with planetary and worm gears, for which the total transmission ratio is above 10000:1. Most importantly, whole construction is covered by an antiseptic coating which substantially changes manipulator's dynamics. Because of the complicated form of the drive model with three-stage planetary gearings and coating interactions, control of such system is significantly different from control of a typical industrial robot. This paper presents a synthesis of the model of the joint, which can be used to design the control system. In this work the derived model is used to examine joint's properties and characteristics. Results are presented graphically and discussed.

The last decade showed very fast growing of worldwide interest in nanotechnologies and nanomaterials. These trends can also be observed in high performance automotive coating formulations. Coating industry was one of the first branches that applied nanoscience and nanotechnology. Application of nanotechnology in organic coatings consists, mainly, in coating formulation using nanomaterials. Such obtained "nanocomposite coatings" consist of polymer matrix containing nano-scale particles. At this scale, properties of materials can be very different from those at a larger scale. Coating properties can be greatly affected by the size of filler particles; the smaller the filler particles the larger the effect. The effect of nanofillers depends on many factors, among others: chemical nature of nanofillers, their concentration and level of dispersion in the coating, as well as interaction between filler particles and organic matrix. Protective and decorative automotive coatings are exposed to the action of such factors as: ultraviolet radiation, erosive particles, humidity and heat. The presence of nanofillers allows increasing coatings resistance to these factors. Resistance to erosive wear and scratch are very important features of automotive clearcoats. Pigments which particles are smaller than the wavelength of visible light may be applied in formulations of such coatings to increase their phisico-chemical properties. Application of nanofillers to clearcoats requires complete dispersion of their particles in polymer matrix. Complete dispersion of nanofillers in polymer matrix enables preparation of high performance clearcoats showing high transparency and resistance to erosive wear and scratch. Alumina and silica nanoparticles are very often used in such applications. The paper presents literature review on nanofiller application in automotive coating formulations.

Small particles like pellets are coated in fluid bed systems. This method can be also feasible for minitablets but selection of optimal process parameters is complicated. The aim of the research was to optimize the coating process for minitablets and to compare the conditions with required for pellets. Minimum fluidization velocities (umf) for 2.0 and 2.5mm minitablets and for 0.7-0.8mm or 1.0-1.25mm pellets were determined experimentally. Additionally, the results were verified using the Ergun equation. The smallest relative differences between the calculated and experimental values of umf were obtained for P0.7 (4.6%), while the largest for MT2.5 (11.8%). To simplify optimization of the coating process, Design of Experiment (DoE) based on Taguchi method was employed. Selection of the best process parameters was based on the film thickness measurements for minitablets, while the sieve analysis was used for pellets to detect agglomeration. The best combination of process parameters resulted in uniform film thickness in minitablets, with RSD less than 15%, and the pellets batch containing only 0.25% of bonded particles. It was found that the largest impact on the uniform film deposition on minitablets had a spraying pressure, responsible for the size of coating mixture droplets. In case of pellets the most critical was the inlet air temperature. The presented research demonstrated that it was possible to achieve the best parameters of the coating process for minitablets and pellets by combining calculations of minimum fluidization velocity and Design of Experiment based on Taguchi method.

In this paper researches which focus on laser heat treatment of nickel-based alloys are reviewed. Studies published from 1970s until today are taken into consideration. Publications which focus on influence of laser thermal processing on surface layer condition both on solid materials and predeposited coatings are described. Laser technologies in which additional materials are delivered during the process are not considered. In order to focus on studies investigating microstructural changes resulting mainly from material remelting, laser shock processing is also disregarded.

The article presents the research results on the influence of the PVD coating on the cutting tool on the surface roughness and energy consumption in the cast iron turning process. It was shown that using coated tools leads to obtaining a surface qualitatively corresponding to the ground surface and to reducing the power consumption of the machine tool. In addition, the process itself, carried out without a cooling and lubricating liquid, is more eco-friendly, as it excludes its use, disposal and negative environmental impact.

Cutting forces during drilling and selected physical and mechanical properties of the finish coating based on epoxy resin. Paper presents selected tests of epoxy resin coating applied to American walnut wood (Juglans nigra L.). The aim of the study was to assess the machinability of wood flooded with resin during drilling. The axial forces and torque values were adopted for the machinability criteria. The idea of the research was the thesis questioning the possibility of processing epoxy resin coatings with the application of tools and parameters used during wood processing. In addition, the influence of UV light on the obtained coating was examined and abrasion tests were carried out. It was found the resin changes its colour under the influence of UV radiation, but the change is imperceptible to an average observer. Epoxy resin is characterized by low abrasion resistance compared to commonly used paint and varnish coatings. Although solid resin is characterized by high cutting resistance while drilling, the force values do not exceed the commonly cut wood-based materials.
Siły skrawania podczas wiercenia oraz wybrane właściwości fizyko-mechaniczne powłoki wykończeniowej na bazie żywicy epoksydowej. W pracy przedstawiono wybrane badania powłoki z żywicy epoksydowej naniesionej na drewno orzecha amerykańskiego (Juglans nigra L.) Celem pracy była ocena skrawalności żywicy epoksydowej oraz drewna pokrytego żywicą epoksydową podczas wiercenia. Za kryterium skrawalności przyjęto wartości siły osiowej oraz momentu obrotowego. Genezą badań była teza stawiająca pod znakiem zapytania możliwość obróbki powłok z żywicy epoksydowej przy pomocy narzędzi i parametrów stosowanych podczas obróbki drewna. Ponadto zbadano wpływ światła UV na uzyskaną powłokę oraz przeprowadzono badania ścieralności. W wyniku badań stwierdzono, że pod wpływem promieniowania UV żywica zmienia swoją barwę, jednak zmiana jest niezauważalna dla przeciętnego obserwatora. Żywica epoksydowa charakteryzuje się niską odpornością na ścieranie w odniesieniu do powszechnie stosowanych powłok malarsko lakierniczych. Mimo iż lita żywica epoksydowa charakteryzuje się wysokimi wartościami siły osiowej i momentu obrotowego podczas wiercenia, jednak wartości sił nie wykraczają poza powszechnie skrawane materiały drewnopochodne.

The investigations concerned the structural analysis of the AlCrSiN coating deposited by arc Physical Vapour Deposition method on the X40CrMoV5-1 hot work tool steel substrate. The deposition process was carried out on a device equipped with a technique of lateral, rotating cathodes. The nano/microstructure, phase identification and chemical state of the coating were analysed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the investigated coatings have nanostructured nature consisting of fine crystallites. The fractographic tests were made using the scanning electron microscope and allow to state, that the coating was deposited uniformly and tightly adhere to the substrate material. In the work is presented the nature of a transition zone between the produced AlCrSiN coating and substrate material.

The paper discusses the results of investigations of material, tribological and anti-corrosion properties of hybrid coatings of the Cr/CrN type, consisting of chromium and chromium nitride, formed on the surface of alloy tool steel by the Arc-PVD method. Investigations of the morphology and microstructure of hybrid coatings, as well as of their phase composition were carried out. The studies on mechanical properties included tests on hardness and Young’s modulus using the nanoindentation method. Tests on adhesion were conducted using the scratch-test method. Tribological properties of the obtained coatings were evaluated by the pin-on-disc method. Resistance to corrosion was determined by electrochemical methods. It was shown that hybrid coatings of the Cr/CrN type are characterized by good adhesion to the substrate and very good tribological properties, as well as by very good resistance to corrosion in a solution containing chlorine ions.

The paper analyses the influence of heat treatment parameters on SiO2 coatings obtained by the sol–gel technique. Their adhesion to the glass substrate and corrosion resistance were studied. The changes in thickness and porosity with the firing temperature and time of sintering for the systems of 1, 2 and 3 layers in case of SiO2 layers were studied. It was shown that the sufficient durability of the SiO2 coating on the glass substrate can be achieved only by the appropriate selection of thermal treatment parameters. The results confirmed that higher sintering temperature is required for multilayer systems, as compared with a one-layer system.
